#19: P&O Cruises ‘Britannia’

While “Britannia ” is not the biggest cruise ship in the world, it is the biggest ship ever built for the UK market. The design reflects luxury and a nautical theme, with leather, glass and marble throughout.

When passengers board the “Norwegian Epic ,” it is instantly obvious how the ship got its name. There are 19 decks onboard, all featuring activities and amenities sure to keep guests entertained during their entire trip.

A water park, nightclub, theater and casino are just a few of the venues for guests to enjoy. There are also more than 20 dining options available 24/7. #10: 'Norwegian Escape'

In today's highly technological world, it should come as no surprise that the name “Norwegian Escape ” was chosen through a Facebook contest, winning out from a selection of 10 potential names.

The “Escape” offers many of the same features as the “Joy,” but travels to more tropical locations like the Bahamas. The focus on this ship is broad, with entertainment and activities for singles, adults and children.

The Atrium is a mid-ship hub area with a large LED screen, dance area and live entertainment. The Supper Club is a theatrical dining venue with aerial acrobatics. Kids' venues include the Aqua Park, Splash Academy and Guppies Nursery. Teens have the Entourage Teen Centre with table football, video arcades and jukeboxes.

In addition to the standard onboard restaurants and bars, there are a few distinctive places to enjoy treats, like Carlo's Bake Shop, where guests can take cupcake classes. Mixx Bar offers pre-dinner cocktails and has a cigar lounge and a mojito bar. There's also The Distinct Brew House, offering 24 draft beers on tap and 50 different bottled beers, and the Atrium Cafe & Bar, which serves specialty tea and coffee. #9: Royal Caribbean 'Ovation of the Seas'

“ Ovation of the Seas ” is the third in Royal Caribbean's Quantum class, and as such, it shares many of the same features as its sister ships, “Quantum of the Seas” and “Anthem of the Seas.” What sets it apart, however, is its Asian-inspired decor, which echoes its original deployment in China. With Chinese passengers in mind, a 32-foot tall panda and cub were designed as symbols of good luck. The majority of the staff speaks Mandarin, and there are dual-language signs throughout the ship. Dining options include Asian cuisine from Kung Fun Panda Noodle Shop and the Windjammer Marketplace buffet restaurant.

But while this Chinese ship is well-suited to Asian travelers, it will cease sailing to Asia in 2019, moving instead to Alaska.

From December to April, “Ovation of the Seas” spends Australian summers in Sydney . During this time, everything is in English and the onboard food, drinks and activities are modified to suit the Australian lifestyle. Because of the popularity of the location, most of the bars, restaurants and water-based activities on the ship are busier than during the trips to Asia.

#5: MSC ‘Meraviglia’

It's hard to know where to begin when describing the features of this ship. From the indoor shopping promenade with a 5,200-square-foot LED dome to the children's LEGO clubs and activities, people from all walks of life will find something they enjoy on the MSC “Meraviglia .”
