#1 Westfjords, Iceland: Dream Destination

The Westfjords is the oldest region in Iceland, formed some 16 million years ago. It’s also the most remote region in the country, cut off for months at a time during the winter because of heavy snowfall. But, if you’re prepared to get off the beaten path, the Westfjords really is a dream destination.

The first thing you’ll notice about the Westfjords is the scenery. Because it is so much older than the rest of the country, the region doesn’t have active volcanoes or steaming lava fields. Instead, what you’ll find are wide green pastures and steep, flat-topped mountains. In addition to these cinematic landscapes, there are dramatic waterfalls, winding roads, inky blue fjords, charming villages and so much more. It’s also one of the best places in Iceland to witness the magic of the northern lights.

Some of the places you must see on a visit to the Westfjords include the town of  Ísafjarðardjúp, the unofficial capital of the Westfjords, Vigur Island, Dynjandi waterfall, and the Látrabjarg sea cliffs, the westernmost point in Iceland.

The best way to explore this dramatic region is on a road trip (this Westfjords itinerary is a good place to start). Be aware, however, that many of the roads are unpaved so it’s important that you are comfortable driving in these conditions.

#2   Salar de Uyuni Salt Flats, Bolivia

Known as “ the world’s largest mirror ” when covered with water during the rainy season for its reflection of the sky, the Salar de Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia is one of the best dream places to visit in the world  for travelers with its other-worldly scenery. Left behind by an ancient, evaporated sea, these salt flats are the largest salt flats in the world. The landscape here is mind-blowing, and the extreme flatness and few points of visual reference cause optical illusions both when the Salt Flats are flooded and when they are dry.

The experience of visiting the Salt Flats isn’t complete without taking a multi-day tour of the area and the nature reserves in this wild corner of the country. The best Salar de Uyuni tour itinerary  includes a stay in a hotel constructed entirely of blocks of salt and includes visits to the other incredible nearby destinations like Laguna Colorada bright red lake with flamingos, snowcapped mountains, canyons, etc. Make sure to visit Incahuasi , one of the few “islands” within the salt flat, and home to centuries-old cacti that grow nearly ten meters tall.

Many travelers want to visit during the rainy season to see the mirror effect, most often visible between January and April, but a visit to this incredible spot is an unforgettable travel experience any time of the year.

#3 Isle of Skye, Scotland

Known for being a place where magic lives, the Isle of Skye has become a dream holiday destination for many. This picturesque island, connected to the Scottish mainland by a bridge, offers some of the country’s best landscapes and dreamiest views.

World-class attractions are commonplace all over Skye, with the Fairy Pools, Old Man of Storr, and the Quiraing taking center stage. There are also a number of wonderful castles on the Isle of Skye, each enchanting in its own way.

Landslips characterize the environment and the result is incredible scenery that could’ve fallen out of a fantasy novel. This varied terrain also means that Skye is a haven for walkers who have some of the world’s best trails at the tips of their fingertips.

In order to get the best out of the unpredictable Scottish weather, summer is when most people visit. However, spring and autumn are arguably better seasons to plan your visit as you get to avoid the dreaded Scottish midges.  Winter on the Isle of Skye can be a beautiful time to visit but this is only suited to the most resilient adventurers, owing to the wild weather!

#4   Milford Sound, New Zealand

New Zealand is a spectacular and incredibly scenic destination. It’s the perfect place for an adventure-filled road trip, including in a motorhome and there are many “best places” to choose from. On the South Island of New Zealand, Milford Sound is probably the most popular destination for first-time visitors to the country.

Milford Sound  is a remote fjord in the southeast of New Zealand, where mountains fall abruptly into the sea and it’s best visited on a day trip from Te Anau . The spectacular road is a two-hour drive, with the crossing of the dramatic Homer Tunnel, and it will whet your appetite for more beauty to come. There are different ways of seeing Milford Sound, including light plane and helicopter rides. The simplest and most affordable is to take a cruise, and this will give you a very good picture of this extraordinary location.

Milford Sound is a unique natural wonder, home to many flora species, and where you can admire temporary waterfalls created by one of the highest rainfall levels in the world… As the boat comes closer to the waterfall, you will experience the purest water on the planet… Here, you can drink the rain! Indeed, Milford Sound is a remarkable dream location on the earth.

Accommodation is expensive in Milford Sound but staying there for a night is a treat. Imagine the peace of the sound as the night falls onto its peaks… Milford Sound is a year-round destination however spring is the best time for a chance to get a mix of rain and sunshine.

#5  The Archipelago of La Maddalena, Sardinia, Italy

Located a short ferry ride from Palou in North Sardinia , is the Archipelago of La Maddalena. It became a national park in 1994 and is made up of 7 major islands and 55 smaller ones. Certainly, Sardinia is known for its beauty, beaches and clear water and La Maddalena is the best of the best. Imagine yourself on the most remote, idyllic beach with the clearest water. This is La Maddalena and it is luxurious.

It is a dream travel destination because of the white-sandy secluded beaches, the turquoise sea, and the unspoiled natural wonders. It is also home to the Garibaldi Museum , which is the house of the Italian hero who spent his final 26 years in this paradise. You can go on a boat or sailing trip or you can hike to several worldly beaches including Cala Coticcio , which is nicknamed Little Tahiti and has two remote bays, epic views, and colorful fish, and Cala Napoletana, which boasts two idyllic, sheltered bays with glistening electric blue water.

The best time to visit is in the shoulder seasons in May to early June and September to early October. Here you will find enjoyable weather and empty beaches compared to the summer months of July and August when there are more tourists. Undeniably, this is a dream vacation destination and it’s almost guaranteed that you will be talking about it for years to come.

If you’re looking for a more unique experience, then the best time of the year to visit New York  would be during Winter. Winter is when the festivities are at their liveliest, the skyscrapers are capped in snow, and the buzzing energy of New York is at its peak. After the holidays, the prices are also at their cheapest so it’s truly a strategic time to visit.

#7 Pemba Island, Zanzibar

Pemba Island is the sister island of Zanzibar in Tanzania. It is now what Zanzibar used to be 30 years ago. The island is truly unique with beautiful beaches, dense vegetation, and really friendly locals who will do anything to make you feel at home.

The best time to visit is from November to March or from May to August. The pace of life here is slow and there is a term for it ‘Pole Pole’ (It’s Swahili for slowly slowly). The island is small but full of things to see and do. The small nearby island of Misali is a world heritage site with its turquoise waters and pristine blue beaches.

Fundu Lagoon is barely 30 minutes away on the boat but the water here is green and sand light golden. A further 30 minutes and water turns blue and sand turns coarse with a deep golden color. Pemba is a place of wonder and magic. It offers something to everyone whether you want to sit by the beach with a book or go on a deep discovery dive or simply walk in the beautiful Ngezi forest and hug a tree.

The north of the island is famous for the Pemba flying foxes and the beautiful secluded beaches. In fact, the entire length is full of small unspoiled beaches. Taking a Dhow out in the ocean at sunset here will leave you spellbound. Undoubtedly, Pemba Island is one of the best dream places in the world that you shouldn’t miss visiting.

In short Pemba Island is a truly unique place with stunning scenery and comes with a price tag significantly lower than that of Zanzibar with unspoiled nature and a cultural experience you won’t get in Zanzibar.

#8 Kyoto , Japan

Kyoto , the traditional and spiritual center of Japan, is one of the most famous dream places in the world. Famous for its beautiful sections of traditional wood and paper houses, Kyoto is the place to visit if you love cute little cobblestone laneways to get lost in.

Making Kyoto especially magical is the region’s geisha culture. These legendary Japanese entertainers can be spotted by lucky visitors scuttling through the alleyways to visit tea houses on their nightly engagements.

Kyoto also features many shrines and temples to explore, each with its own unique characteristics. The most famous of these arguably are Kinkaku-ji for its gold pavilion surrounded by water and Fushimi Inari Taisha’s paths lined with orange Torii gates.

A day out to the whispering trees of the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is also a magical experience and the surrounding forest is littered with small Shinto shrines that kimono-clad Japanese people stop to visit.

Kyoto is beautiful at any time of year, but in particular, the Autumn Foliage season in late November or Cherry Blossom season in April is spectacular. Located on the main island of Honshu, Kyoto is a 14-minute Shinkansen (bullet train) ride from Osaka and just over two hours from Tokyo.

#9 Maldives : Dream Destinations

If you are looking for dream vacation ideas in southeast Asia, Maldives should definitely be at the top of your list. The Maldives, officially The Republic of Maldives, is an archipelagic South Asian country located south-west of India and Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean. The Maldivian archipelago consists of 1,200 coral islands and sandbanks grouped in clusters or atolls. Only 200 of these islands are inhabited. Uninhabited islands are turned into luxury resorts that the Maldives is famous for. The Maldives islands are what dreams are made of – azure clear waters, pristine white sand beaches, lush green canopy, and waters brimming with incredible marine life. You’ll spot colorful coral, various types of fish, reef sharks, turtles, stingrays, and manta rays.

The luxurious nature of the single island resorts with their over-water villas suspended over turquoise lagoons sets your heart on visiting the country. However, what most people don’t know is that the Maldives can be explored on a budget as well by living at islands inhabited by locals. It is an amazing way to not only explore this beautiful country but also get a taste of local life and culture on various islands. The best time to plan a visit to the Maldives  is from December-March with February being the driest month with clear skies. That being said, the weather in the Maldives is notoriously fickle. So be prepared for anything no matter the time of year!

#10 Vik, Iceland

Iceland is one of the most uncrowded dream countries to visit in the world. The southernmost village in Iceland, Vik is a magical place that carries an almost otherworldly feel. It is a unique and beautiful seaside town, framed by the peaks of the Reynisfjall and Myrdalur Mountains. Its most prominent feature is Reynisfjara Beach, one of the most iconic black sand beaches in Iceland. Watching the Atlantic waves roll across the volcanic black sand against the backdrop of towering basalt columns and sea stacks is a truly enchanting sight.

Iceland is a beautiful country at all times of the year. The summer months are the warmest and Vik is covered by a blanket of colorful wildflowers. In winter, the town is transformed into an icy wonderland. Visiting Iceland in November  is a great way to benefit from hours of golden light from the near-constant sunrise and sunset. It’s also a brilliant time to catch the Northern Lights, and Vik is an ideal location for this, due to its virtually nonexistent light pollution.

Vik is situated on the Ring Road (the main road in Iceland) and is 179km from Reykjavik. It is a popular pitstop for Iceland road trippers, as it is the only settlement within a 70km radius. There is also a daily bus service from Reykjavik to Vik.

Please Note, if you are looking for a cheap European country to visit , it’s better to skip Iceland as it is pretty expensive.

#11 Komodo Island, Indonesia

The islands of Komodo are not commonly known to travelers visiting Indonesia which makes it an appealing dream place to travel for those looking for an exciting and remote island experience unlike any other around the world.

The Komodo islands  offer a variety of activities like basking on one of only seven pink sand beaches in the world, hiking the Jurassic park-like landscape of Padar island, seeing a Komodo Dragon in its natural habitat, watching the sunset migration of thousands of flying foxes, or even snorkeling with gentle giant manta rays.

The untouched gem of Komodo National Park is an Indonesian treasure and a true bucket list-worthy dream place to go on a holiday for those visiting Indonesia looking for a ‘beyond Bali’ experience.

Located in East Nusa Tenggara, Flores these islands are only accessible by boat from the quaint coastal town of Labuan Bajo. Boat tours offered have the option to live-on-board for a 3-day 2-night trip or day trip option from Labuan Bajo. The liveaboard is highly recommended to truly embrace the island hopping boat life experience.

Komodo Islands can be visited all year round but if you’re looking at visiting for best natural landscapes and animal spotting then October to November (Indonesia’s start of rainy season), is the best option.

Due to its UNESCO status and the home of the endangered Komodo Dragon, visitor numbers are capped per month so when visiting, it’s best to book at least a month or two in advance to ensure you don’t miss out on this incredible dream holiday location.

#12 Prague, The Czech Republic

Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, is located in the heart of Europe. It’s quite close to other capitals – e.g. Berlin, Vienna, Bratislava are all about 4 hours away.

Prague not only belongs to one of the dreamiest places in the world but also one of the best places to travel alone in Europe . You’ll feel it when walking the narrow streets of the Old Town. The historical houses are of all possible pastel colors and line the winding alleys beautifully. When strolling across the medieval Charles Bridge, with the view of the River Vltava and the sight of the majestic Prague Castle, it’s a dream come true. Once on the Prague Castle grounds, you’ll feel in awe admiring the grand Gothic masterpiece of the St. Vitus Cathedral or when walking past tiny houses in the Golden Lane.

Prague can be visited year-round. The most magic comes at Christmas . Early December is when all Christmas preparations are ramping up and the city is decorated wonderfully.  Summer in Prague  is amazing too, but it’s when there’s usually the highest number of tourists. Visiting in low season months, such as January, February, or November is a great idea too if you don’t like crowds. You can also check out the cheapest cities in Western Europe  to explore.

#13 Petra, Jordan

Petra is a dream holiday place for many people. Most people have seen Petra in the movies, as it features e.g., in Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. It is such a unique place in the wonderful country of Jordan.

Built between 300 BC and 300 AD by the Nabateans, what you see today are the tombs of their most influential inhabitants. It is said that the people actually lived in a tent city, not in the many caves.

Hidden away in a steep valley surrounded by sheer rocks you feel transported into a different world. You enter the city through the Siq, a narrow canyon formed by a crack in the rocks. The Treasury, the most famous tomb in Petra, is the first thing you see upon exiting the Siq.

But there is much more to see and explore in Petra  if you are willing to do a bit of hiking. The High Place of Sacrifice and The Monastery are two other impressive places to visit while you are here.

It is still not overrun with tourists, which is surprising for such a dream vacation place. For an extra dreamy experience, visit on a Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday evening for Petra by night, when the Treasury is lit only by candlelight. The best time to visit Petra is between October and March, as summers tend to be too hot for the hikes.

The list of the best dream destinations in the world is incomplete without mentioning Aruba. It is one of the most beautiful destinations going, with white sandy beaches and an almost impossibly blue sea it really is stunning. This small Caribbean island is just 20 miles off the coast of Venezuala and feels tropical throughout.

The coastline features some of the best beaches around, including the wonderful Eagle Beach and the lesser-known but possibly more beautiful Baby Beach. Through the middle of the island is the cactus-filled Arikok National Park which is perfect for a walk and you can hire a ranger from the visitor center to really get the most out of a ramble through it. If you’re visiting  Aruba with kids  they will love the Donkey sanctuary and butterfly farm.

What makes Aruba really special is the bathtub warm waters, filled with shoals of colorful fish which makes snorkeling here a fantastic experience. There’s no bad time to visit Aruba as it’s warm all year round but visiting during the shoulder months, when there are fewer cruise ships visiting will mean it’s quieter than the summer.

#15 Rome, Italy

Thinks about a dream destination, and Rome, the capital of Italy, definitely comes to mind. A city of many wonders, you won’t find a shortage of things to do and places to visit in Rome . The Eternal City is packed with beautifully kept archeological sites; churches that are art galleries in and of themselves; incredible museums; squares with intricate fountains and much more. What’s more, in Rome you will be able to taste delicious dishes such as spaghetti cacio e pepe – a 3-ingredients only recipe, for a full flavor – and supplì, one of the most popular street foods in town.

A classic Rome itinerary is one that includes the Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine, the Roman Forum, and the nearby Palatine Hill, where the Roman aristocrats used to live. Continue your exploration by going to Piazza Venezia to admire the Altare Della Patria, and from there walk to Largo di Torre Argentina, an archeological site that is now home to a cat sanctuary. Not far from it, you will be in the Centro Storico, home of the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and the world-famous Spanish steps.

Rome is a beautiful city year-round, but if you are hoping to find it less crowded and with mild temperatures, October is a great month to visit.

#16 Paris: Dream Places to go

Paris is one of the best dream honeymoon destinations in the world and one of the most visited cities in Europe. The Seine River bisects the French capital, and it has iconic neighborhoods like Saint-Germain, the Marais, or Montmartre.

The city is a cultural capital with many interesting museums and galleries and a rich history that spans from Roman times to our days. It is also one of the world’s most romantic cities and a paradise for food and wine lovers.

There’s no bad time to visit Paris, but in general, the shoulder season (spring or fall) has good weather and sees lesser crowds. Also, transportation and hotel prices are slightly lower than during the Christmas holidays or summer time.

The list of best things to do in Paris  includes the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, a stroll around Montmartre, and a Seine River Cruise, but of course, there’s much more! If you want to visit Paris for the first time, spend at least one week, perhaps with a day trip to Versailles.

#17 Bora Bora

Visiting Bora Bora is one of the best trips you will ever experience in your life. The sheer beauty of this destination will take your breath away. While Bora Bora is known for its layers of blue waters and overwaters bungalows, rest assured, there is so much to do. Your  Bora Bora bucket list  will keep you as busy as you wish on your visit.

Bora Bora is located in the South Pacific in French Polynesia and part of Tahiti. Flight time is about 8 hours from California and an additional 50 minutes flight from the island of Tahiti. It is extremely remote.

The reason this destination is a perfect dream destination is because you feel like you are on a postcard. No photo or video will ever do it justice.

The best time to visit for the price is between January to March/April but for best weather, you should visit June-September, with August being the driest month of the year.

#18 Lapland

Lapland is the stuff dreams are made of. There is something magical about Lapland, where the snow falls thick and heavy and there is a sparkle in the air like glitter. Through the summer you can go on beautiful hikes and mountain bike rides amongst stunning scenery. Straddling both Sweden and Finland this is a region that is very unique.

There is nowhere else quite like Lapland and there are some amazing activities available here. Experience the exhilarating ride of a husky pulled sled or creak gently through the landscape on a reindeer sleigh, this is somewhere to indulge in all things Christmassy.

There are some great foods to try here too including Arctic Char, wild mushrooms, and all of the local berries from crowberries to the evocatively named (and tasting) cloudberries. This is a great place to find out more about the local indigenous, nomadic people, the Sami, who trek with their reindeer across the landscape.

If you’re planning a holiday to Lapland  then winter really is the perfect time to visit as the country embraces it so well. There are lots to do here in summer too but winter is when the landscape looks most fairytale-like and so many fantastic activities take place.

#19 Mindo, Ecuador

Mindo, Ecuador is a magical destination to visit in South America.  Situated just a couple of hours outside of the Ecuadorian capital of Quito, Mindo is home to one of the greatest concentrations of biodiversity in the world in its cloud forest.

Mindo has a little bit of everything to offer.  For those who are seeking adventure in Ecuador , you can enjoy zip-lining, canyoning, rafting, or hiking.  Into nature?  Mindo is the ultimate place for birders.  There are night walks where you can experience Mindo’s native nocturnal creatures in all of their glory.  Mindo is also home to an incredible butterfly farm.  For food enthusiasts, Mindo is home to an award-winning chocolate and some of the freshest produce you can find.  There are plenty of delicious restaurants in town to enjoy.

And for those simply looking to spend a relaxing few days away from it all in the surrounding beauty, there is, of course, that as well.

Situated so high up in the cloud forest, it’s no wonder Mindo sweeps you off your feet.  For epic views, there are special treehouse Airbnbs to stay in.  Don’t forget your binoculars!

#20 Whitehaven Beach, Australia

The Whitsunday Islands are one of the most popular tourist destinations on the East Coast of Australia and not without reason. Located not too far from the Great Barrier Reef these islands boast an incredible underwater world and untouched nature. There are only a handful of resorts on the Whitsundays and a large portion of the islands is protected.

The most famous place here is of course Whitehaven Beach which is said to have the whitest sand in the world. At 98% silica content the sand here is so white it’s almost blinding and the water is of course crystal-clear. You’ll love how secluded this beach is although you need to come early in the mornings to avoid the tourist crowds. If you’re lucky you could even spot sea turtles at the Whitsunday Islands.

The best way to come to this beautiful place is by boat. You can join one of the many guided tours that will take you around and usually include lunch as well as any snorkeling equipment. Don’t miss out on this dream tourist destination. destination.

#21 Queenstown: Dream Holiday Destination

Nestled in the Southern Alps on the South Island of New Zealand, Queenstown is probably one of the most beautiful places in the world. Queenstown and the greater Central Otago region are renowned for stunning lakes, world-class skiing, and delicious wine.

For a spectacular introduction to the area, take a road trip from Christchurch to Queenstown , passing some gorgeous scenery on your way to this stunning destination.

#22 Kotor, Montenegro

Most people wouldn’t think about this European country as a dreamy place to visit, which makes it uncrowded and one of the cheapest countries to live in Europe . Kotor, Montenegro is one of the most stunning places you can visit. The small town is located at the end of the fjord and is surrounded by high mountains – the location is simply breathtaking. You can easily get to Kotor from other destinations in Montenegro or from nearby Dubrovnik (Croatia).

Besides the incredible location, this is a wonderful place to visit as there are so many great things to do in Kotor . The old town is small but charming, with centuries-old beautiful palaces that used to belong to noble families and winding lanes that make wandering around a pure pleasure. Don’t miss the biggest highlight of Kotor – St. John’s fortress above the town.

Getting there might be a bit challenging (you need to walk up some 1300 stairs to reach the top) but the views from up there are simply mind-blowing and the best you will ever see. Besides the town itself be sure to see more of the Bay of Kotor and its charming villages (the most popular one is Perast).

Kotor is beautiful all year long but in the summertime, it can get really crowded, especially when cruise ships arrive. The best time to visit Kotor is either spring or autumn when the weather is nice but there are not that many people around.

#23 Santorini, Greece

“A dream destination you should definitely visit is Santorini. Santorini is a Greek island that is part of the Cyclades island group. Other islands nearby are Mykonos, Naxos, and Paros. You can easily get to Santorini from any of these places.

Santorini is a very beautiful place and one of the most beautiful places in Greece . Santorini is a true dream wedding destination filled with cute villages, amazing beaches, and beautiful viewpoints. Especially the village Oia is very beautiful. There are beautiful viewpoints and amazing buildings here.

This village is also known for its blue domes. You see these domes in every photo of Santorini. Another great thing about Oia is the wonderful sunset you can see from there. Every evening, people gather and watch the sunset together. Also, there are very luxurious suits in Oia, with many having a private bath with a view.

The best time to visit Santorini is in June. During that month the weather is great, but it is not too hot. Furthermore, it is much quieter then and hotels are more affordable to stay in.”

#25 Hvar, Croatia

If you’re looking for a truly dreamy destination in the world, you can’t go wrong with visiting the island of Hvar in Croatia! It’s one of the most popular destinations for island-hopping in Croatia, and that’s for a very good reason. With amazon local wine, a thriving party scene, swanky beach bars, and a medieval fortress to explore, there’s plenty to keep you occupied in Hvar Town alone, never mind the rest of the island!

The easiest way to visit Hvar is on a day trip from the town of Split, on mainland Croatia. The ferry journey takes around 50 minutes, but there’s nothing stopping you from hiring a boat to sail there yourself. Although many people only visit Hvar for the day, it’s well worth staying for a few nights and using it as a base to explore other nearby attractions, such as The Blue Lagoon and the famous Blue Cave of Croatia .

#26 Cappadocia, Turkey : Dream Travel Destination

Cappadocia is a region in central Turkey that has been made famous for the 100+ hot air balloons that take to its skies almost every morning. The region is also dotted with unique rock formations called “fairy chimneys”, which give it an other-worldly appearance. One of the best things to do in Cappadocia  is to ride in one of these hot air balloons, at dawn, over Cappadocia’s interesting landscape.

Cappadocia is also home to many amazing cave dwellings, hiking trails, restaurants, and more. You can even stay in an authentic cave hotel in Cappadocia! It is also a prime grape-growing area and has many lovely vineyards and wineries.

The best time to visit Cappadocia is in spring or fall, which is between April and May or September and October. The weather is nicest June-August. However, this is peak tourist season, and it will likely be VERY crowded.

#27 Sydney, Australia

Your first glimpse of Sydney Harbour’s icons, the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, is a pinch-me moment. Whether you see them from the airplane window as you fly in over the city or the platform at Circular Quay when you jump off the train, they immediately announce “I am in Sydney”.

A top dream destination for many travelers, there is plenty to see in Sydney beyond the harbor, and you really should allow 3-5 days here if you can. This will give you time to explore the two most popular beaches, Manly and Bondi, wander around the historic quarter, The Rocks, to learn about the history of the city, spend a day in one of the cities national parks, and even take a trip to the famous Blue Mountains. However, even a weekend in Sydney is an experience to remember and enough time to see the key sites.

While Sydney has a reputation as an expensive city to visit, there is some excellent budget accommodation, and many of the main sites are free. You can also join a free tour with a local by signing up for the Sydney Greeter service.

Located in the southern hemisphere, Sydney is a year-round destination. Winters are relatively mild, and if you visit in this period (June-August), you will find excellent availability and affordable prices, especially from Europe and North America. Summers are warm and humid with perfect beach weather. However, one of the best times to be in the city is in October, when days begin to get longer and the spring flowers in full bloom.

#29 Tromso, Norway

Norway is another beautiful dream country in Europe where you can watch northern lights (Aurora Borealis) due to its geographic location. Tromso is a lively and buzzing city located in the north of Norway, 200 miles above the arctic circle.

Tromso is truly one of the best dream cities that everyone should add to their bucket list. There are plenty of things to do in Tromso . Whether you want to experience midnight summer, polar nights, chase aurora borealis, or indulge in loads of adventures all year round, Tromso is a perfect choice. While in Tromso, be sure to meet Sami people, the most indigenous people in the arctic world. Explore the busy streets of Tromso, or take a cable car and see the sweeping panoramic views of the city and fjord from Storsteinen.

One of the best things about Tromso is that it is truly a year-round destination. In summer you can enjoy uninterrupted daylight for 24 hours, and come winter, the region becomes a winter wonderland with aurora dancing up in the sky.

As one of Italy’s largest regions,  Sicily  is an island of outstanding beauty, with landscapes forged by the earth’s forces and a culture developed over thousands of years by some of the world’s greatest civilizations. Sicily is the ultimate melting pot of some of Italy’s best cuisine, sights, and traditions, making it a true dream trip place.

While the likes of Taormina, Palermo, and Siracusa teem with tourists between the months of June to September, those who want a real taste of the island should not only visit in the shoulder seasons but should look to visit some of the lesser-known and smaller towns and cities on the island such as Noto, Erice, Marsala and Trapani located on the  Wild Western Coast of Sicily  as well as some of the beautiful seaside resorts such as Marzamemi or Scopello sat right next to one of the island’s most beautiful nature reserves, the Riserva Naturale Orientata Dello Zingaro.

These lesser visited towns and cities offer a more authentic experience of Sicily, with real Sicilian dishes being served, where you can hear the true Sicilian dialect being spoken and explore sights that aren’t overcrowded such as the large Temple of Segesta which often has a fraction of the tourists of the more widely known site of the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento.

The island albeit seeming small is bursting at the seam with things to do. It has seven UNESCO world heritage sites to explore and more beaches than you can ever visit and some incredible history and architecture to discover. It’s an island where time is not of importance, so prepare to take a slower more relaxed pace and don’t try to schedule everything too tightly. A visit to Sicily should be savored, just as a glass of red wine from the slopes of Mount Etna should be too.

If you want to stay close to the temples, you can choose between 3 different places. Old Bagan is the closest one to the temples but you won’t find so many accommodation options there, mostly just luxury hotels.

New Bagan is a little bit further but it offers a wider range of accommodations. The last (and in my opinion the best) option is to stay in Nyaung-U, which is quite close to the temples and you can find amazing hotels and restaurants in the city.

Nestled between the beautiful mountains and the inviting coastline, Barcelona is definitely one of the most popular cities to visit in Europe. The capital of Catalonia is mostly known for the famous La Sagrada Familia and the many colorful and breathtaking works of Antonio Gaudi across the city.

Starting from the gorgeous architecture to the most amazing local food, there are just so many things to love about Barcelona!

Sunset at Park Guell in Barcelona

Although you can see almost all the must-see spots in just 24 hours in Barcelona, it’s worth spending at least 3 days in the city to truly experience its unique vibe.

Walking through the Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter, admiring the unique architecture of the La Sagrada Familia, visiting Casa Batlló and Casa Mila, and seeing the sunset in the Park Güell are some of the best things to do in Barcelona you can’t miss.

If you have more time in the city, you can go up to Mount Tibidabo where you can spend a fun day in the amusement park and have an amazing panoramic view over Barcelona.

Since Barcelona is really popular among tourists, it usually gets very crowded during the summer. If you want to visit without the crowds, try to plan a trip to Barcelona in the off-season.

Since the city is blessed with mild temperatures during winter, it’s also one of the best winter sun destinations in Europe if you want to escape the cold.

37. Kotor, Montenegro

If you’re looking for a beautiful and affordable hidden gem in Europe, you need to put Kotor on your travel bucket list. Located in gorgeous scenery right next to the Adriatic Bay and the limestone cliffs of Mount Lovcen, Kotor is not only a dream destination to visit but it can also serve as a great base for discovering all the beauty Montenegro has to offer.

The Natural and Culturo-Historical Region of Kotor is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that includes the Old Town, the fortifications, and the bay. Inside the city walls, you will find a maze of cobbled streets with many stone houses and piazzas.

If you’re not afraid of a little workout, you can climb up the 1,350 steps to the Castle of San Giovanni where you can have an amazing panoramic view over the city, the bay, and the mountains. Taking a boat tour and visiting the Lady of the Rocks on an artificial island is another great thing to do in Kotor.

If you want to properly explore the city, you should spend at least 2 days in Kotor but if you’re planning to use it as a base to discover the rest of the country, you can easily stay up to one week.

Some great places to visit close to Kotor are Tivat, Budva, Sveti Stefan, and the Lovcen National Park and it’s also possible to take a day trip to Dubrovnik as well.

I was expecting to see a few African destinations such as Cape Town or Zanzibar. Much to my disappointment..

Unfortunately, I haven’t been to Africa yet and since I only featured destinations where I’ve actually been to, I couldn’t include anything from Africa. Hoping to change that one day though!

1) alaska road trip: a dream destination for outdoor lovers.

Talking about a dream destination for outdoor lovers, the answer is Alaska!

If you love wildlife, and outdoor adventures, with many opportunities for hiking high mountains, kayaking amongst glacier lakes, going on wildlife viewing, and exploring the nature around you, you will love to visit Alaska. Catch the Northern Lights in Fairbanks, hike or take a scenic flight among the highest mountains in Denali National Park , and go whale watching in Seward. You can visit some of the most stunning waterfalls and glaciers in Valdez .

I spent 10 days on a road trip tip in Alaska, driving an RV and visiting as many places as I possibly could during my time there. While many visit Alaska on a cruise, planning an independent trip to Alaska is not an easy task, because the State is huge.

But this is the best way to visit the Last Frontier state. Alaska is a great destination all year long, in the summer you can explore breathtaking hiking, while winter in Alaska is time for some outdoor winter sports.

PRO-TIP: My 10 days Road trip in Alaska has all the tips and details on where to visit, where to stay + the road map on where to drive, for all the important information and tips for visiting Alaska.

2) SMOKY MOUNTAINS: Incredible hiking destination

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited national park in the United States, and for a good reason! It is considered one of the best National Parks in the USA, and it offers incredible hiking opportunities.

The Smoky Mountains are located in the eastern part of the United States on the Tennessee-North Caroline borders, close to Gatlinburg, one of the most visited towns in America, with tons of things to explore. The National Park is a thickly forested area with a stunning bio-diverse collection of mountains, valleys, and rivers. Also, the Smoky Mountains park offers an opportunity to get close to nature with lots of wildlife viewing opportunities, such as black bears, elk, otters, and many other animals.

One very popular thing to do in the Smoky Mountains is to rent a cabin in the woods and enjoy the view while you soak in a hot tub after a very active day hiking. Talk about a dream destination, this sounds just perfect, right!?

PRO-TIP: If you want to plan a trip to the Smoky Mountains you need to add at least a few hikes, check my complete guide on the Top 10 Hikes in the Smoky Mountains , and start planning your adventure trip.

4) A ROAD TRIP TO NEW MEXICO

A road trip to the Land of Enchantment sounds like a perfect dream destination for anyone who loves history and nature, and it is very cultural. I took this trip on an RV for 2 weeks with my 2 dogs, and I was amazingly surprised at how much I could see and especially, learn about the Native Americans.

New Mexico is blessed with stunning desert landscapes, breathtaking snowcapped mountains, bubbling hot springs, and remarkable national monuments. With its mix of European American, Native American, and Mexican heritage, the state is a unique and colorful place to visit.

The reputation for scenic diversity is well established, such as New Mexico’s Chaco Canyon, the Carlsbad Caverns, and the amazing White Sand National Park, also, Albuquerque is world-renowned for its hot air balloon festival.

PRO-TIP: I highly recommend taking an RV trip to New Mexico, as it offers so many places to visit along a road trip, it is safe and you can find great options for RV Camping. It was my first RV trip too, and I found it relatively easy. Check my complete guide on How to rent an RV for the First time .

6) TEN THOUSAND ISLANDS, FL: The best-kept-secret dream destination for outdoor and nature lovers

There are so many dream destinations in the United States to choose from, but I have decided to add Ten Thousand Islands as it is a real hidden gem and a perfect vacation destination for anyone who loves the outdoors and nature. Located only 1-hour drive from Miami, this ecological paradise is one of the most unique places you can visit and explore.

Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge (NWR), is a maze of mangroves, where the waters of the Everglades meet the Gulf Coast, forming a labyrinth of water. It is the second-largest mangrove forest in the world, only surpassed by Bangladesh. A perfect place for anyone looking for an authentic adventure while enjoying some solitude, and being immersed in nature, and for anyone who seeks off-the-beaten-path destinations.

One of the best things to do here is to go on a boat tour and visit the islands while you can have dolphins joining you on the tour, or be able to observe the manatees in their natural habitat. Go kayak in the narrow mangrove channels, you can find many hiking trails, and also go camping in one of the 48 designated campsites. The most important ingredient for any trip through the Everglades and the Ten Thousand Islands is to have a spirit of adventure.

PRO-TIP: If you got curious and want to know more about this ecological paradise, I have written a very detailed guide with all the information you need to know, from how to visit, the best time to go, where to stay, best things to do a much more, just check the Ten Thousand Islands Comprehensive Guide .

The dolphin in Ten Thousand Islands is one of the dream destinations for outdoor lovers

You must be wondering if I am listing the top dream destinations for adventure lovers, why I included Toronto, right? Well…my answer is that Toronto is one of my favorite cities in the world. I am NOT a big-city type of girl, but Toronto is my type of place. The reason is that you can find lots to do here, and it is one of the most international cities I have ever visited. So, if Toronto is not on your bucket list yet, I recommend you add it.

You can find amazing restaurants with the best international cuisine, tons of art, and fun nightlife. You can also find beaches and waterfront paths along Lake Ontario, plus kayaking or standup paddling around the Toronto Islands. Green spaces such as High Park and Kew Gardens, huge and grassy, are perfect for a picnic and an afternoon stroll, while the east end has a growing network of leafy bike paths and walkways. Even in winter, on a gray, chilly day, there’s outdoor ice skating to enjoy!

Visit the amazing Kensington Market and explore one of the most diverse food scenes in Toronto, visit the mysterious gothic castle, Casa Loma, and stroll around the harbor with stunning views of the Toronto skyline. Last, but not least, you can visit Niagara from Toronto on a day trip, it is only a 1:30-hour drive.

PRO-TIP: You can take a day tour from Toronto to Niagara for only $76 and explore the most famous waterfalls in the world. Or you can book a small group Toronto Tour to explore the highlights of this amazing city.

8) mongolia: a magic dream place to visit.

Mongolia is a place full of magic. But it’s a kind of magic that has to be earned. It takes spending hours on less-than-desirable dirt roads, unclear directions, and a terrain that’s constantly throwing surprises your way – for better or worse. It’s a place where your limits are pushed and you start to discover who you really are, and for that, Mongolia rewards you with the most spectacular landscapes, people, and cultural experiences in the world.

Whether you  travel to Mongolia  to immerse yourself in the nomadic lifestyle 25% of the population still lives, or if Overlanding through some of the world’s most incredible natural wonders is more your thing, traveling to Mongolia should be on everyone’s bucket list. From the singing dunes and White Stupa in the south to the Eagle Hunters in the west, the reindeer riders in the north, and the incredible landscapes of the east, there’s something magical to discover no matter where your time in the Land of the Eternal Blue Sky takes you.

PRO-TIP: Mongolia is the only place on this Dream Destinations list that I haven’t visited yet, but it is #1 on my bucket list. 9) A ROAD TRIP IN NEW ZEALAND: One of the top bucket list dream destinations

We cannot talk about the best dream vacation places on earth without mentioning a New Zealand road trip. This is truly the most beautiful place I have visited in my life, and going on a road trip, the beauty keeps revealing itself and surprising you around each corner you drive. Immerse yourself in the magic of New Zealand by visiting some of the places seen in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit – You cannot miss the opportunity to visit the Hobbiton Movie Set .

You will see scenic drives all the way, from rolling hills and farms with lambs all over, and incredible opportunities to stop along the way for pictures or go hiking.

One of the top destinations is New Zealand

10) LHASA, TIBET: A transforming dream destination

Tibet was very high on my Dream Destination List for years, and while I was visiting Nepal, I was offered an opportunity to spend a 4-Days in Tibet . It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see Lhasa and the home of Tibetan Buddhism. The visit I had to Tibet will go down as one of the most profound travel experiences that I have ever had. It is truly a MUST-EXPERIENCE destination.

Throughout my travels, I have met many amazing people and cultures, but I’ve never before seen people that are as quick to smile and laugh as Tibetan people. The people of Tibet are the kindest and most genuine people I’ve met. Despite the difficulties of living in one of the most repressed and closed societies in the world, I was met with smiles and a sense of welcome. If you have the chance to visit Tibet, you will clearly see signs of occupation on every corner. Yet Tibetans still maintain an easy smile and a peaceful spirit.

While in Lhasa, you will be able to visit the Potala Palace, the official home of the Dalai Lama, the Jokhang Temple Built in the 7th century, and to visit Barkhor Street with alleys and small side streets branching off from it. Sera Monastery. Tibet is changing rapidly. There are far fewer people who lived through the transition when China took control. The limitations inflicted on the Tibetan people are slowly but surely impacting their culture and traditions. See this place while it still retains some of its history and character.

PRO-TIP: Keep in mind that it is not easy to get a Visa to enter Tibet. If you got intrigued about Tibet, please read my article The truth behind the occupation , to understand more about the reality behind it. I have also captured very powerful images from the People of Tibet in this photojournalism, and you will appreciate it if you love photography.

Tibet is a magical destination

11) NEPAL: Trekkers and hikers paradise in the world!

It is not even a question that Nepal is the number one dream destination for any hiker out there. Home to eight of the highest peaks in the world, including Everest. Besides Mt. Everest, Nepal is home to mountain peaks like Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Manaslu, and Annapurna, just to name some.

And I can guarantee that once you hike the Himalayas, you will never be the same again. It was one of the greatest adventures of my life, just to get out of my comfort zone, hike long hours per day at high altitude, sleep in the tea houses along the way, and eat only what the kind people of the Himalayas offer you, is a very physical and humble experience.

But Nepal is not only a paradise for hikers. This picturesque country has a lot to explore. Nepal also holds many World Heritage sites, and has a strong history, culture, and religious influence, offering a great variety of options of things to do and see – You can check this guide about  30 Things to Know Before your Trip to Nepal. to learn more about the intriguing culture.

Nepal is also the house of the living Goddess Kumari, and Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha Shakyamuni. If you are looking to explore the outdoors and love to immerse yourself in nature, Nepal is the dream, destination to visit.

PRO-TIP: Read all you need to know about Nepal Travel Planning here. If you are going on multi-day hiking for the first time, I recommend hiring a local guide. I used and recommend Epic Adventures since, besides great experience and local guides, they share part of the profits with social work in Nepal. Hiking the Hymalaias should be on a bucket list dream destination

12) SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA: One of the most spectacular dream destinations in the world

When I think about all the dream destinations I have been to in my life, watching the sunrise at Angor Wat is definitely at the top of my list. A magical moment, at a magical location, and all the energy that fulfills not only our eyes but our soul. This is Cambodia, a very profound country and culture.

Siem Reap offers you the opportunity to experience and visualize the glorious past when temples were raised and cities created for the glorification of kings and deities. In  Siem Reap  you can visit the renowned  Angkor Wat , the largest religious monument in the world, Angkor Thom, Banteay Srei, Ta Phrom, Bayon, and dozens of other temples and temples ruins.

You could easily spend a couple of weeks and not see all the temples in the area. The Cambodians have made Siem Reap an easy dream destination to visit, and it is also very affordable, so what are you waiting for to add it to your bucket list?

PRO-TIP: I combined my trip to Cambodia after I visit Vietnam, some people add Cambodia and Thailand trips. One week in Cambodia is enough to see the beauty of this country, and even if you have only a few days concentrate all your time n Siem Reap for an unforgettable experience. One of the best accommodations in Siem Reap is the Koulen Hotel , located in the heart of the city, and has an incredible outdoor swimming pool.

Cambodia is a dream destinations for adventure travelers

13) VIETNAM: One of the top dream destinations for backpackers

What better dream destination for a backpacking trip than Vietnam? Vietnam is amazing, from top to bottom, with such a diverse landscape, friendly people, rich culture, and yummy food. Vietnam has over 1,000 miles long to be explored. The good news is that you can visit the best of Vietnam by backpacking around the country in as short as 2 weeks.

While traveling around Vietnam, you can uncover the organized chaos of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), and take a side trip to the fascinating Co Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta. Fall in love with of the best spots in Vietnam, the UNESCO world heritage city of Hoi An. Go on an adventure and hike the incredible hills mountains of Sapa and live with a Black Hong hill tribe . Relax on board one of the junk boats on the gorgeous Halong Bay.

A dream destination to me is much more the place but sometimes the people. The simple way of living, with some of the kindest people I have ever met during my adventure travels, took me to make amazing people that I call friends today, such as my Black Hmong family in Sapa. Bau and I became friends and we communicate very often. Even on a very stressful and busy day, she can help me to slow down for a few minutes and to put a big smile on my face anytime when I get the message: “Paula, I miss you…when am I going to see you again?”

PRO-TIP: My 2-week Vietnam Itinerary has all the tips and details on where to visit, where to stay, and what transportation to use, for all the important information and tips for visiting Vietnam independently.

Vietnam is one of the dream destinations for backpackers travelers

Thailand is without a doubt one of my dream destinations. I consider Thailand a transformative trip experience of my life, starting with the people of Thailand. At the same time, the population lives a very simple lifestyle, they live in spiritual wealth and they always hold the most genuine smile on their faces.

My first trip to Southeast Asia was to Thailand, and I fell in love at a first sight, making me continue to travel back to continue to explore more. I backpacked around the country for 20 days and I was able to see such a diverse country, with one of the most fascinating cultures on the Planet.

During a trip to Thailand you will see majestic golden temples and stupas in Bangkok, go on an island hop with the long tail boats and float on the turquoise water where the movie The Beach was filmed, and if you are into partying, join the crowds on the full moon parties at the beach.

One of the highlights of a trip to Thailand is visiting Chiang Mai a blissfully calm and laid-back place to relax and recharge your batteries – (especially if you have been partying on the islands). Visit the night markets, try the amazing Thai food, go to the Elephant Nature Sanctuary and learn about the incredible work they do on rescuing and protecting these amazing animals or just stroll around the backstreets, and discover a city that is still firmly Thai in its atmosphere and attitude.

PRO-TIP: The best way to travel around Thailand is by backpacking. Carry just the necessary and keep moving around the country to see the diversity from the Golden Temples in Bangkok to the paradise islands in the South, and a must-visit place in Chiang Mai. Check here for the best travel backpacks on the market today.

20) botswana: go on a wild safari is a true dream destination.

As you can see, I love adventure travel experiences, and I consider my trip to Botswana the biggest adventure of my life! Botswana has not only been a dream destination for me but a transformative experience. As a big animal lover, here I found some of the best safaris on the planet!

It is impossible to go on safari at Chobe and not see at least hundreds of elephants on the same day. Or go to Okavango Delta and get lost in the labyrinth of rivers while observing hippos and crocodiles. One of the best parts is exploring Savuti and being at a very close distance from lions.

For 10 days I went on a road trip in Botswana and I slept under the stars camped without fences in the most remote areas on a safari and shared the same space with wild animals like hyenas and African lions. Yes, and it was awesome to be so close to the animals, in their own habitat. Adventure camping and sleeping under the stars in the middle of a safari offer a perfect mix of raw nature and unprecedented experiences.

PRO-TIP: One of the best ways to explore Botswana is doing a Driving Safari, you have 2 options: If you are traveling on a budget, you can rent a 4×4 and do a self-safari – Read my full Botswana Road Trip itinerary here, and you can go camping – Read all you need to know about Camping in Botswana . Or you can hire a local tour company to organize your visit.

Think about a dream destination. What comes to your mind? I know what comes to my mind, and it is Namibia. My definition of Namibia is not a trip, it is an experience! Namibia is that place that will leave you in AWE doesn’t matter if you are traveling around the desert, or doing a safari, and you cannot go wrong whichever you choose to visit.

Because of the vast landscape and habitats, the animals of Namibia are able to roam freely without too much human interference Namibia has very diverse wildlife, including the big five, and very rich marine life.

Namibia is certainly one of the most stunning places I’ve ever seen – from driving the Namibian desert without seeing another car for hours to being surrounded by fossilized trees at Deadsvlei. Driving on the coastline on Skeleton Coast where the desert meets the ocean, to the incredible Namibia safari and plains of Etosha National Park inspires awe at the majesty of nature.

PRO-TIP: I recommend renting a car and going on a road trip to Namibia. If you want to plan a trip, check my Ultimate Namibia Road Trip Itinerary, where you can find all the tips, where to drive, what to visit, where to stay, and pretty much all you need to know about how to plan a trip to Namibia.

22) MOROCCO: A dream destination for diversity and warm hospitality

Morocco was on my travel bucket list for a long time, and it didn’t disappoint me. Actually, it was the first time I traveled to the African continent, and I was in awe of the beauty, diversity, culture, and everything else. Morocco is a must-see destination for anyone who loves to travel and explore culture, history, food, and natural wonders. Visiting the imperial cities of Marrakesh, Fez, Meknes, and Rabat with their magnificent architecture transports us back in time.

Imagine yourself watching the ancient ways of making bread or tanning leather that has not changed for centuries. Explore the blend of modern meets traditions in nearly every aspect of the country. A trip to Morocco is not complete without getting lost in the silence of the Sahara desert and sleeping under the plentiful stars.

The cuisine is another experience, with an explosion of aromas, prepared with spices like saffron, and cinnamon which is locally sourced and liberally employed to lend unique flavors to stews and soups. From the Saharan dunes to the peaks of the High Atlas, Morocco could have been tailor-made for any adventure traveler.

PRO-TIP: If you are planning a trip to Morocco, check the Top 10 Things to do in Marrakesh . My second piece of advice is even if I am big at going on independent road trips to different countries, I do not recommend self-drive in Morocco, and I recommend hiring a private tour

Now let’s be honest: Bavaria is one of the top destinations on any traveler’s bucket list! Located in stunning Southeast Germany and on the border with Austria, this region has scenic drives among the hills with breathtaking landscapes, fairytale towns, and magical castles, with the most popular being the Neuschwanstein Castle, considered the most beautiful castle in the world.

I have visited this region on road trips a couple of times, and I continue to find incredible places to visit, such as the Rothenburg of der Tauber, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful and preserved medieval towns I ever visited. You can even spend the night at one of the castles in this region, and this is a really cool experience to feel like a princess or prince for a day.

For your adventure travel, the Bavarian Alps is a dream destination, with a large range of outdoor activities to get your heart pumping and your eyes filled with so much beauty of alpine valleys, emerald lakes, waterfalls, and snow-covered mountains forming a real wonderland for any outdoor activities such as hiking in the summer, and skiing in winter.

28) HALLSTATT, AUSTRIA: A winter wonderland dream destination

How to talk about dream destinations without mentioning the fairy tale town of Hallstatt in Austria? Sitting between overpowering mountains and an expansive lake, this picturesque little town is studded with wonderful attractions and UNESCO World Heritage Sites, walking the streets of Hallstatt in winter, is akin to taking a walk in fairytale land.

Despite being a small lakeside town, Hallstatt has plenty to offer for history and adventure travelers. Here you can find an ancient salt mine, a fascinating museum, an eerie bone-house, and trails that snake through mountains with spectacular landscapes just a few. It’s a mix of fascinating history and lovely landscapes.

Spending one day in Hallstatt is enough to see the main attractions. Hallstatt became a very popular destination in the past years, and if you visit during the high season (summertime) it can be crowded and difficult to find parking. I visited Hallstatt in winter and I had the best experience. I had the streets pretty much just for myself – if you don’t mind the cold, this is the best time of the year to visit it.

PRO-TIP: My Hallstatt Travel Guide has all the tips and details on where to visit, where to stay, things to do, and much more. If you are planning a visit to Hallstatt, I also recommend visiting Salzburg , because it is less than 2 hours apart and it is another amazing dream place you cannot miss.

29) PORTUGAL: Top dream destination in Europe

Portugal is a perfect dream place if you are looking for adventure and also, culture. Portugal offers it all! Another great thing about Portugal is that traveling around is very easy, either if you are driving or using the railway system. Plus, the food is amazing – the Caldo Verde (kale soup) with Porto wine – and Portugal is also a very affordable country to visit. By now, you should already be convinced to add Portugal to your travel bucket list! Portugal is one of the countries that surprised me in so many great ways.

A visit to Portugal starts with soaking into the rich culture of the country, with lots of history and art, from the incredible cultural sites in Lisbon to the traditional ceramics tiles (or azulejos ) in Porto to the colorful castles in Sintra. If you love wine (I know I do!), you can find some of the best wines, and you must include a day trip on the Douro Valley Tour .

But Portugal is also a great destination for anyone looking for adventure. If you love hiking, Ilha de Maneira offers amazing hiking trails with phenomenal views, or you can take a trip to the coast and go surf some of the tallest waves on the Planet in Nazaré. You can also go canyoning in the Azores and skydiving in the Alentejo region.

PRO-TIP: One of the best ways to travel around Portugal is by renting a car . The country is very small, easy, and safe to drive, and a 1-week trip on a road trip allows you to see and do a lot. If you are not into driving, or you are short on time, book a very popular day trip from Lisbon to visit Cintra, Cascais, and other towns around.

Last, but not least Dream Destination on my list is London. This is a city I hold very close to my heart, as I have lived, studied, and worked in London before, and this was my first international destination that changed my life. Since I have lived in London, I have traveled to more than 40 countries, and never gone back home.

London attracts millions of visitors every year, and it is one of the most famous places in the world and one of the most well-known cities in Europe. Here you find many historical landmarks, such as Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament are a must when visiting London, and no London bucket list is complete without admiring Tower Bridge and taking a ride on the London Eye.

Besides all the history and being home to the British royal family, you probably wouldn’t associate London with adventure, after all, it’s a majestic, historic city. But just keep exploring, and you will find real adventure things to do in London, as it is so diverse and international and you will find something fun to do in each corner.

PRO-TIP: If you are short on time, it is possible to see the main highlights of London on a weekend trip, but if you really want to dive into this amazing city, I recommend spending at least a week here.  The Chesterfield Mayfair is a 4-star hotel in an excellent location, between Hyde Park and Green Park, and Buckingham Palace is only a mile away.

London is one of the best Dream Destinations

Dream Destinations in North America

Let’s begin with some of the ultimate dream vacation spots in North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

1. The Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA

This natural wonder of the world was carved over six million years from water and wind erosion. The result?

A canyon that’s nearly 450km long and 1.6km deep — that’s bigger than the entire US state of Rhode Island!

Hike along the rim for breathtaking desert vistas or take a mule ride to the bottom of the canyon and spend the night in Phantom Ranch.

If that’s not adventurous enough for you, sign up for an epic river rafting trip down the Colorado River.

2. The Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick/Nova Scotia, Canada

Did you know there’s a place where you can traverse over 5km of exposed sea floor?

To experience this phenomenon, head to the Bay of Fundy — home to the world’s highest tides

At low tide, walk for miles along the exposed seabed in search of ancient dinosaur fossils.

During high tide, experience tidal rapids and whirlpools and keep an eye out for a North Atlantic Right whale (the most endangered whale species on earth).

3. Havana, Cuba

If you want to experience life in the 1950s, you don’t need a time machine.

All you need to do is visit Havana, Cuba, to fully immerse yourself in the world as it was 70 years ago.

Founded in the 16th century, Havana is one of the oldest settlements in North America.

Today it’s known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant colonial architecture, and its narrow streets filled with vintage American cars.

It’s also the birthplace of the mojito, so don’t forget to order this sweet, minty rum concoction while you’re there.

mydreamdestination-iguazufalls-4904749

Destinations in South America don’t get much dreamier than Iguazu Falls.

Dream Places in South America

Now that you’ve explored North America, let’s venture below the equator and see what the continent of South America has to offer.

4. Iguazu Falls, Brazil/Argentina

Deep in the rainforest, straddling the border of these two nations, you’ll find the world’s largest system of waterfalls.

A whopping 275 different waterfalls form along the Iguazu River in a place the locals (rightly) call “Big Water.”

Just how big are they?

You can hear the thunderous roar of the falls from more than a mile (1.6km) away!

To get a clear picture of just how enormous these falls are, be sure to visit them from both sides.

5. Cusco, Peru

Once the capital of the ancient Incan empire, the city of Cusco sits high (3400m) in the Peruvian Andes.

Enjoy the breathtaking mountain vistas while locals dressed in colourful native garb herd llamas in the fields.

History lovers will enjoy learning about the Incan civilization while exploring the Sacred Valley with its various stone ruins.

And Cusco is the perfect hopping-off point for your journey to Macchu Picchu, which rightfully belongs on everyone’s list of dream destinations.

6. Patagonia, Argentina/Chile

The world’s southernmost national parks are well worth the effort to get to.

Patagonia encompasses both Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina and Torres del Paine National Park in Chile.

Explore more than 400,000 square km of turquoise glacial lakes, jagged alpine peaks, and enormous glaciers.

And if you make it as far south as Ushuaia, you’ve reached the jumping-off point for the ultimate dream trip destination — Antarctica!

dreamholidays-skye-9716427

One of my dream holidays in the UK is to visit the stunning island of Skye in Scotland.

Dream Holidays in Europe

With the Americas ticked off our bucket list, let’s travel ‘across the pond’ for some dream holidays in the UK and Europe.

7. Isle of Skye, Scotland

Historic castles? Check.

Jaw-dropping seaside cliffs? Check.

Picturesque fishing villages, enchanting waterfalls, and mysterious lochs?

Check, check, and check.

It’s hard to pick just one dream trip destination in the UK, but you can’t go wrong with the stunning Isle of Skye.

You’ll recognize the unique landscape from some of your favourite films and shows, including Star Wars, Game of Thrones, Skyfall, and King Arthur.

8. The Ring Road, Iceland

Known as the “land of fire and ice,” Iceland is home to some of the most incredible natural wonders on earth.

Hike to remote waterfalls, sail through a glacier lagoon, and take a soak in warm geothermal pools.

The best way to see the country is to rent a car or campervan and drive the ring road that loops the island.

Along the way, you’ll have the chance to wander across volcanic craters, ride Icelandic ponies across the tundra, and maybe even see the Northern Lights!

9. Venice, Italy

It’s impossible not to be captivated by this crumbling city that’s (quite literally) sinking into the sea.

Founded in 421AD, the lagoon city recently celebrated its 1600th birthday !

Even more remarkably, its 117 islands are entirely artificial, made of clay and wooden stakes.

Venice ruled itself for more than 1,100 years and was the most powerful empire in the Mediterranean in the 14th century.

Today its maze of canals and narrow alleyways are sure to enchant any visitor.

Dream Places to Go in Africa

From Europe, sail across the Mediterranean to discover these dream destinations on the “Dark Continent.”

10. The Pyramids of Giza, Egypt

For over 4,000 years (until the Eiffel Tower was completed), the Great Pyramid of Giza was the largest manmade structure on earth.

In fact, it’s so big that astronauts can see it from space!

Book a flight to Cairo to see the only remaining wonder of the ancient world for yourself.

Ride a horse or a camel across the sand dunes, tour the ancient crypt, and then enjoy the warm hospitality of the Egyptian people.

11. Zanzibar, Tanzania

Here’s one of the best dream travel destinations you’ve never heard of — Zanzibar.

Surrounded by white sand beaches and the clear waters of the Indian Ocean, this gem of an archipelago is the ultimate tropical holiday.

This series of islands boast some of the best beaches in the world, and they’re not nearly as crowded as their Caribbean or South Pacific counterparts.

And thanks to the tradewinds, you’ll find an eclectic mix of Indian, Arab, and Persian influences mixed in with the local East African culture.

12. Kruger National Park, South Africa

Africa’s oldest national park is also one of its largest — at 20,000 sq km, it’s only slightly smaller than Belgium!

For anyone who’s ever dreamed of going on safari, this belongs at the top of their dream holidays list.

The park is home to the “Big 5” (lions, elephants, rhinos, leopards, and buffalo), as well as 500 species of birds and 2,000 species of plants.

Book a stay at one of the opulent park lodges or, for the more adventurous, sleep in one of the (well-protected) campsites under the African stars.

dreamvacationdestination-pokharanepal-2877815

The next dream vacation destination I have for you is Pokhara, Nepal.

Dream Travel Destinations in Asia

Journeying further east, consider adding some of these dream places to go in Asia to your travel bucket list.

13. Pokhara, Nepal

If you want to experience Nepal but don’t fancy trekking up to Everest base camp, why not plan your dream trip to the lovely town of Pokhara?

Nestled in the foothills of the Annapurna range, this lakeside town is an ideal place to learn about the cultures and customs of the Nepalese people.

Paddle across Phewa Lake or go paragliding off a nearby hilltop for unprecedented views of the Himalayas.

Then unwind with a relaxing massage and a cup of spicy chai tea while you listen to chants from a nearby Hindu temple.

14. Singapore

At just 728 square km, what Singapore lacks in size it makes up for in cultural and culinary diversity.

Chinese and Indian merchants sailed through it for centuries before the Dutch, Portuguese, and British colonised the area.

Located at the southernmost tip of the continent of Asia, Singapore boasts all the best of both western and Asian culture.

It’s one of the most modern cities on earth, with dazzling high-rises and a foodie culture that rivals culinary powerhouses, such as New York City, London, and Paris.

Just be sure to stay hydrated while you explore, as Singapore consistently ranks among the hottest countries on earth .

15. Siem Reap, Cambodia

This Cambodia province is home to a lively town on the backpacker trail — Siem Reap — as well as the famous temple ruins of Angkor.

Mingle with the Khmer locals in town while you get a fish massage and enjoy cheap cocktails on Pub Street.

But save plenty of energy for the main highlight, which is a tour of Angkor Wat and surrounding temples.

Lost in the jungle for nearly 1,000 years, the ancient temple complex was only “rediscovered” in 1840.

Plan a sunrise visit to avoid the heat (and the crowds) and tap into your inner Lara Croft.

dreamplacestogo-easterisland-5071104

Last but not least, here are a few dream places to go in Oceania, starting with Easter Island.

Dream Vacation Spots in Oceania

Congratulations — we’ve travelled almost all the way around the world!

Complete your dream trip bucket list with these exotic destinations in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.

16. Easter Island, Chile

Although technically it belongs to the country of Chile, this tiny island lies nearly 4,000 km to the west, in the middle of the South Pacific.

It was settled by Polynesian explorers in the 8th century AD and was unknown to the outside world until Dutch sailors arrived in the 1700s.

The main draw to Easter Island (as you likely already know) is the 900 enormous stone figures that litter the landscape.

These Easter Island “heads” (some as large as 14 tons ) were clearly made by master craftsmen, but no one knows why they were made, how they were moved, or what they were used for.

Add Easter Island to your list of dream destinations and form your own opinion about those mysterious stone figures.

17. The Great Ocean Road, Australia

Rent a car in Melbourne and head west to drive this iconic 240-km stretch of road on Australia’s southern coast.

The landscape changes dramatically as you wind past soaring cliffs and waterfalls interspersed with tiny surf towns.

Along the way, you’ll pass the iconic 12 Apostles, a series of enormous limestone stacks just off the coast.

You can also cuddle with koalas at nature reserves or enjoy a wine tasting at one of the region’s many vineyards.

18. Queenstown, New Zealand

This stunning alpine town near the bottom of New Zealand’s south island has something for everyone.

Adrenaline junkies can get their fill of skiing, jet boating, horseback riding, or glacier trekking.

When it’s time to slow down, take a cruise across Lake Wakatipu and explore the region’s vineyards, which boast some of the world’s best white wines.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Remarkables mountain range, Queenstown truly is a remarkable dream trip.

What’s Your Dream Vacation Destination?

Our beautiful planet is full of incredible places to explore.

From the soaring peaks of the Himalayas to the white sand beaches of Zanzibar to the thundering waterfalls in the Amazon rainforest — and all points in between — there are more dream destinations than you could ever see in a lifetime.

So what are you waiting for?!

When choosing your dream travel destination, there are no wrong answers.

No matter what you enjoy most, you can’t miss traveling to these dream vacation destinations! Experience an action-packed adventure, dine on delicious food in a new locale, explore the ancient ruins of an old city, or bask in the beauty of natural wonders!

best dream travel

Iceland is a country of marvels, from cities like quirky Reykjavik to natural wonders like Hverfjall crater. If you want to have your breath taken away, travel to Iceland for a dream destination unlike any other.

Your journey starts in Reykjavik. Though small, the signs ensure you won’t miss it. Or, just keep an eye out for the towering Hallgrímskirkja Church, which can be seen for miles around. While the church is beautiful, the 360° view is the real draw, perfect for taking in the city, the mountains, and the ocean.

Below, Reykjavik’s streets offer Icelandic charm and beauty, including the Sun Voyager sculpture, the Harpa Concert Hall, and street art hidden down alleys and plastered on buildings.

While the city has its share of sights, you’ll find Iceland’s best features on the road. There’s a reason Iceland is considered a paradise for nature lovers and why it should be among everyone’s dream travel destinations.

From the Golden Circle tour to charting your own course, you’ll find countless attractions to capture your attention. Stand before the might of the Gullfoss waterfall, take in the sights from Dyrholaey Viewpoint, and dive between two continents at the Silfra Ravine in Thingvellir National Park—the only place in the world where you can cross this item off your bucket list!

best dream travel

You’ll find black sand beaches dotting Iceland’s coast, each with something unique to offer. From the distinct basalt columns at Reynisfjara beach to the enormous chunks of iceberg washed ashore at Diamond Beach, you’re in for a treat wherever you travel.

Offering up endless possibilities and enchantment, Iceland is the kind of place that will make you believe in magic.

Best Time to Visit Iceland

Nature lovers should visit in the summer months, June to August, to take advantage of the best weather and most hours of sunlight. Treat yourself to hot springs, whale watching, and everything under the sun. For a glimpse of the northern lights, pack your winter coat and snowshoes for a trip between October and April.

best dream travel

Sitting on the shores of Lake Wakatipu on New Zealand’s South Island, Queenstown possesses stunning views of gorgeous lakes and majestic mountains aptly named The Remarkables. But these stunning landmarks are far from the only reason Queenstown is a popular getaway. As the Adventure Capital of the World, it’s the destination of every adrenaline junkie’s dreams.

As far as daring activities go, Queenstown doesn’t disappoint. Seek your thrills in the air paragliding off Coronet’s Peak or seek them in the water Jet Boat Riding through Shotover River at over 50mph.

You can even try superhero flying off the freestyle jump at Ledge Bungy for amazing panoramic views of Queenstown, The Remarkables, and Lake Wakatipu—that is, if you’re not jumping off backward.

best dream travel

And if you’re thinking about adventures on land, try hopping on a gondola ride up to Skyline, where you can appreciate the gorgeous scenery as you’re walking, mountain bike riding, or racing back downhill on a luge. Just try to keep the road in sight while you drive.

Additionally, you can’t go to Queenstown without making a trip to Fiordland National Park a priority. Take a helicopter tour over Milford Sound for a bird’s eye view of the incredible scenery or, for a closer look, take a boat cruise with the dramatic cliffs of the fjords rising up around you.

best dream travel

Whatever your preference for death-defying activities, Queenstown is among the best and most breathtaking dream destinations to travel for the daredevil in all of us.

Best Time to Visit New Zealand

New Zealand’s summer, December to March, is the optimal time for experiencing the outdoors and all the heart-pounding adventures you can stomach. The long and sunny days are perfect for outdoor excursions of all kinds. But, if you prefer to take advantage of snow-capped peaks and wicked slopes, plan your visit for June through August.

best dream travel

Claiming another spot on our dream travel destinations list is Fiji, though divers know it by another name: The Soft Coral Capital of the World.

Fiji’s Rainbow Reef often ranks among the world’s most beautiful coral reefs , and the name says it all. Full of colorful corals and incredible sea creatures, this natural beauty is a premier spot for divers visiting Fiji.

But it’s not the only coral reef or great diving spot to be found. The crystal clear waters surrounding Fiji highlight the vibrant coral reefs in dream places like Bligh Water and Somosomo Strait. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even go diving with sharks!

Once you drag yourself away from the sea, you’ll find plenty of activities to keep you busy on land. Horseback ride along the island’s coasts or travel inland and visit the Koroyanitu National Park, where you’ll find hiking trails, mountain biking, and natural pools perfect for a relaxing swim.

best dream travel

You’ll also want to try out island hopping on a day trip or spend a few days at popular destinations like Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands. Yasawa is one of 15 Fijian words meaning heaven. After seeing these islands for yourself, you’ll understand how they got the name!

And, of course, a trip to Fiji wouldn’t be complete without visiting one of the local villages to experience daily life, meet the friendly residents, and participate in the traditional culture.

Fiji’s magical experiences on land and sea are reason enough to mark this dream destination among your future travels.

Best Time to Visit Fiji

We’d argue that the best time to visit Fiji is whenever you can. However, if you’re looking to take advantage of the best weather, plan your visit for July to September. Of course, as this is peak season, prices tend to skyrocket and crowds descend. Try visiting in the shoulder season, May to June or October, to avoid the worst price hikes and crowds.

best dream travel

The Maldives is synonymous with luxury resorts, overwater bungalows, and white sandy beaches.

If you’re looking for a luxury stay to relax, enjoy a romantic getaway with your partner, or just bask in a beautiful place minus the crowds of tourists you’ll find elsewhere, then the Maldives is your perfect dream travel destination.

Home to roughly five percent of the world’s reef area, the Maldives’ sprawling coral reefs offer the perfect reason to strap on your snorkeling gear and dive right in.

But you don’t have to spend your whole trip underwater to enjoy this dream holiday destination. Take your surfboard to the waves of the Indian Ocean or scour the water for a glimpse of dolphins or whales on a boat tour.

And you can’t forget the amazing people living and working among the islands. To get a true sense of Maldivian culture and life outside the flashy resorts, you can take an island hopping tour and get to know the locals.

best dream travel

When rounding off your stay, you can add the Huvafen Fushi Maldives underwater spa and resort to your bucket list. You read that right: it’s underwater. If you’ve ever wanted to be spoiled and indulged while feeling like you’ve been spirited away to the legendary city of Atlantis, then this place will make those dreams a reality.

The Maldives is a stunning destination you’ll want to return to again and again to enjoy the kind of pampered holiday we all deserve.

Best Time to Visit The Maldives

From adventuring to lounging and everything in between, visit this island travel destination between November and April for dream weather. If you plan your trip a little earlier, in October or November, you may even be able to spot whale sharks, a rare and memorable experience for those lucky enough to see it!

best dream travel

As of 2021, this dream destination has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Taking a peak within its walls, it’s not hard to understand why.

Jaipur bears a distinctly fairytale-like spirit, and its moniker as the “Pink City” of India certainly brings that idea to life. This stunning city has been referred to as a photographer’s paradise , and that’s all we needed to hear for us to put this dream place among our list of dream cities.

Jaipur bursts with history and interest around every corner, from its planned layout to the limestone and Indian red brick powder that earned the city its nickname. Every road offers a wealth of amazing things to explore and even more amazing pictures to capture.

One of the most famous dream places in Jaipur is Hawa Mahal, the Palace of the Winds, which contains 953 small windows. These windows were used by royal ladies to view festivals and everyday life in the streets.

best dream travel

Countless jewels, from the intricately designed City Palace and the sprawling Amer Fort to Jal Mahal—a palace with four of its five stories sitting underwater—make Jaipur shine.

And if you’re looking for a day trip outside of the city, take a trip to Agra and visit the dream-like Taj Mahal, arguably the most famous travel destination in India and one of 28 places Smithsonian Magazine argues you should see before you die! (That reminds us, Siri, add the Taj Mahal to our bucket list, please.)

India is a vast country, and Jaipur is a worthy stop on its own. But for those with a desire for even more, it stands as a gateway to many other dream destinations within Rajasthan: Jodhpur (the Blue City), Jaisalmer (the Golden City), and Udaipur (the City of the Lakes).

Best Time to Visit India

The summer months are a popular time to travel, but one to avoid if your dream destination is Jaipur. Instead, plan your travels for the rest of the year, October to March, and the winter months specifically, November to January, for the best sightseeing conditions.

best dream travel

One of our dream destinations to travel to is a city lost to time. Petra was once a mecca of trade and power as the capital of the Nabataean empire before falling to ruin. The city was abandoned for centuries, earning it the western moniker of the “Lost City.”

Since its rediscovery in 1812, the ancient city of Petra has become a unique site of wonder and awe to which few cities can compare. Featured in numerous films from popular culture like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Mummy Returns , something about this city has captivated people worldwide.

Simply walking into it is like something out of a movie. The sandstone gorge, Al Siq, towers over you on both sides and opens onto one of Petra’s most remarkable and recognizable ruins: the Treasury.

Visitors can view this towering and elaborate facade during the day or come back in the evening for Petra by Night, where you can see Petra under the stars in all its candlelit glory.

best dream travel

Explore the massive Royal Tombs, with their unique colors and architecture, the sprawling Roman Theater, which once accommodated over 8,000 people, and the monastery located at the top of a wide 800-step staircase.

Don’t miss out on visiting Little Petra for a quieter experience of ancient history and fewer crowds. As the name implies, Little Petra is much smaller than Petra but still showcases the incredible work of previous civilizations.

With its status as one of the new Seven Wonders of the World , Petra is an absolute dream destination and a worthy addition to any bucket list.

Best Time to Visit Jordan

Summer temperatures can climb to over 100°F, so to avoid the blistering heat, it’s best to visit Petra in the spring, March to May, or fall, September to November. That said, fortune favors the bold, and suffering the summer heat for this dream destination will offer a less crowded travel experience of Petra and its wonders.

best dream travel

Unlike other bustling cities around the world, which possess the neverending energy and excitement of a child, Sydney has the relaxed air of a cool aunt.

She knows she’s cool. She’s just waiting for you to discover it yourself.

From iconic shots like the Sydney Opera House to beloved attractions like Bondi Beach, Sydney waits patiently to be experienced.

Darling Harbour offers endless delights, including delicious food on the water and countless shops. You’ll also find an infinite array of activities to fill an entire day, from the Sydney Aquarium and Zoo to the Maritime Museum and the Chinese Garden of Friendship.

For a taste of Sydney’s history, head to the Rocks, the oldest part of the city, where European settlers first came ashore. Here the buildings still sport a colonial look and feel, a far cry from Sydney’s typical ultra-modern style.

From wine tasting tours to surfing the waves of Sydney’s white sand beaches, there’s so much to do in the city you’ll be hard-pressed to leave it. But if you do, the Blue Mountains National Park has to be first on your list of stops. Explore the world’s oldest caves in Jenolan or wander through the magic of a glow worm cave.

best dream travel

Spectacular hiking trails in the park lead through lush green forests for peaks at waterfalls, scenic lookouts, and amazing rock formations like the Three Sisters.

Whatever your style, from the avid city-goer to the relaxed nature lover, Sydney has you covered.

Best Time to Visit Australia

Seasons down under are opposite those in the northern hemisphere, making Sydney a dream destination for travel in spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May). The city comes alive in spring’s wildflower season. But, if you’re planning to visit the Great Barrier Reef, September and October offer a respite from the worst crowds.

best dream travel

If there’s one place to spark imagination and stories of cities lost to the sea, it’s Santorini, a dream destination that some believe to be the legendary city of Atlantis . Or at least a part of it.

But whether Santorini was home to Atlantis or not, this city deserves a spot on your dream destinations bucket list.

From the ocean to the shore, Santorini is filled with one-of-a-kind experiences, starting with its beautiful beaches. Discover red cliffs and sand at Akrotiri Red Beach, picturesque scenes and water sports at Kamari Beach, and black sand surrounded by stunning cliffs at Vlychada. The latter goes by another name, Moon Beach, from the lunar-like shapes carved into the cliff face by the wind.

best dream travel

Full of natural beauty, Santorini is the kind of place you can admire from a rooftop restaurant or hiking to the top of a once mighty volcano.

One of the most popular things to do in Santorini is to take a hike from Fira to Oia, a distance of six miles one way. This scenic route takes you through four towns: Fira, Firostefani, Imerovigli, and Oia. It’s worth it to take your time as you pick your way through the quaint towns and along the hills, taking in the beautiful white buildings, the craggy coastline, and the crashing ocean waves on this gorgeous day trip.

best dream travel

Of course, a trip to Santorini isn’t complete without a view of the sunset from Oia. Explore this picturesque town during the day, then be sure to grab a good spot for the show. Watching the sunset over the many blue-domed churches in Oia has earned this dream destination a spot on many people’s bucket lists, but it’s only the start of what this charming island has to offer.

Best Time to Visit Greece

There’s nothing like summer in paradise. The best time to visit Greece is during the summer, from May to September, when the country comes alive under blue skies and a blazing sun. Without a doubt, it’s the best time to enjoy Greece’s beaches, but if you’re in the mood for a more active or cultural vacation, consider April to June or September to November for more unique experiences and fewer crowds.

best dream travel

Every city is made of stories, and Istanbul is one stuffed full of them, crammed into every nook and corner like words in a book.

If this city isn’t among your dream destinations, it should be.

The only city to lie on two continents, Istanbul has been known by many names throughout history and served as the capital of three massive empires—Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman.

The city still bears the marks and stories of each empire’s reign throughout the city: the towering Column of Constantine erected by the Romans, the iconic Hagia Sophia church constructed during the Byzantine empire, and the sprawling Sultan Ahmed Mosque (the Blue Mosque), built during the Ottoman era.

Istanbul is the perfect place to brush up on the history of these ancient empires in countless museums and structures sprinkled around the city.

best dream travel

When you’re done turning the pages on Istanbul’s many stories, you can begin collecting some of your own. The Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is famous for its wares. As one of the world’s oldest covered markets , the Bazaar offers singular magic, with everything from spices to handmade rugs and jewelry on display. If you’re shopping here, bargain your way through the stalls, and you’ll come out looking and feeling like a king.

Out of the hustle and bustle of the crowds, take a break appreciating contemporary art from Turkish and international artists in Istanbul Modern, go for a stroll in Emirgan Park, or unwind in the distinguished, dome-topped Kılıç Ali Paşa Hamamı (public bath), meticulously restored and reopened in 2012.

Wander your way through this mesmerizing city and get lost in its streets and history. The rest of the world will still be waiting when you’re ready to reemerge.

Best Time to Visit Turkey

Planning to explore all the wonders that Turkey has to offer? In that case, schedule your trip for the spring, March to May, or autumn, September to November. Pleasant weather and warm temperatures make exploring Turkey’s delights a breeze.

best dream travel

If you’re looking for charming seaside towns for your next vacation, look no further than Cape Town in South Africa. Incredible history, vibrant culture, and world-class museums sit between the famous flat-topped Table Mountains and the endless Atlantic Ocean.

Learning about some of the most significant events in South Africa’s history is best explored firsthand. One of the locations of Nelson Mandela’s 27-year imprisonment, Robben Island, holds tours guided by a former captive. Meanwhile, the District Six Museum showcases the devastating consequences of apartheid. The walls are covered in photos, signs, and other significant memorabilia from that time.

In Bo-Kaap, you can visit one of the oldest surviving residential neighborhoods in Cape Town. The Iziko Bo-Kaap Museum, housed in the oldest house in the area, offers fascinating details about this pastel rainbowed town, including why it’s so colorful.

best dream travel

Once you’ve experienced the country’s history and culture, all the beauty of South Africa awaits. Explore high-topped mountains, enjoy pristine beaches, and catch a glimpse of the incredible wildlife.

Walk above the trees in the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, one of the world’s top ten most beautiful botanical gardens . Additionally, you can’t miss taking a road trip out of Cape Town and driving along the Cape Peninsula. Making your way to the Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point to look out from the southernmost tip of the continent is a must-do experience.

You’ll be hard-pressed to find anything that compares to standing on the edge of a continent as impressive as Africa, which is why Cape Town is one of our top dream destinations.

Best Time to Visit South Africa

Cape Town and the Western Cape stand apart from the rest of the country, with a rainy season in the winter, June to August. Consequently, the best time to plan your visit to the Cape region is between November and March, when the weather is dry and the temperature is great for beaches and sightseeing.

Most Popular Travel Destinations

There’s no such thing as good or bad dream destinations. We simply dream of some travel destinations more than any other.

But what about the destinations that most people dream about visiting and do? Let’s just say there’s a reason why the most popular destinations are popular!

If you still have room on your bucket list for more dream destinations, here are the most visited travel destinations in the world and the US.

best dream travel

When it comes to the most popular destination in the world, Bangkok takes the crown. Before the pandemic, a jaw-dropping 22.78 million people visited Bangkok , more than any other city in the world. Though if you’re curious, Paris was runner-up with just over 19 million visitors.

Bangkok’s appeal no doubt lies in its integration of old with new. Opulent temples and shrines exist side by side with modern skyscrapers. The distinct spires of the Grand palace rise toward the heavens just as the Baiyoke Tower II, the fourth tallest structure in Bangkok, does behind it. You can find these distinct and artfully designed temples and palaces sprinkled throughout Bangkok and its towering structures.

best dream travel

Like other large cities around the world, Bangkok is a bustling epicenter of activity.

Go for a drink on a rooftop bar, treat your tastebuds to Thai cuisine from mouthwateringly good street vendors, and catch a fight at one of the stadiums in Bangkok built for their national sport of Muay Thai.

It’s worth taking a trip here yourself and discovering firsthand all the things that make this capital city in Southeast Asia a dream tourist destination for many around the globe.

Best Time to Visit Thailand

Thailand’s varied climate and landscapes mean you can find the perfect time to visit throughout the year. However, November to March offers the best all-around conditions, with cool temperatures and little rain to ruin your sightseeing plans.

best dream travel

New York, New York. The most popular destination in the United States shouldn’t come as a surprise to many. The city that’s inspired so many famous works and people alike played showstopper to 13.60 million visitors and ranked seventh in most popular cities globally in 2018.

The first capital of the United States, New York, has been the poster child for the US around the world.

New York encompasses so much of the US, from the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor that first welcomed many immigrants to the nation to Rockefeller Center, where the Christmas Tree is lit every year, and from the shockingly quiet and peaceful greenery of Central Park to the hustle and bustle of Times Square.

With its restless crowds and blinding lights, Times Square is likely one of the many reasons that the moniker of the “City that Never Sleeps” continues to fit so well.

best dream travel

Though significantly younger than most international cities, New York still holds its own with a blend of history and modernism that fascinates visitors. The diversity of one of America’s oldest cities makes it the perfect place to experience the many cultures that make up the United States.

If it’s not already, New York City’s global fame and notoriety should earn it a spot on your dream destinations bucket list.

Best Time to Visit New York

Every season has something to offer in New York, whether it’s fun festivals in summer or the magic of winter in the Big Apple. But for the best all-around time to visit New York and get in your sightseeing fix, plan your trip for the spring, April to June, or autumn, September to November, when the weather is cool and the city is bathed in color.

Located in Mexico’s eastern Yucatan Peninsula, Dreams Jade Resort & Spa sits just outside the small traditional fishing town of Puerto Morelos. The all-inclusive resort’s 550 rooms and suites occupy a large expanse of Caribbean beachfront, and the Club Level suites all get the oceanfront treatment. These premium-category rooms include access to the exclusive lounge and adults-only pool, as well as an exclusive breakfast menu at Capers restaurant. Additionally, some rooms have outdoor hot tubs.

Dining options span French, Mediterranean, and French cuisine, and various bars are scattered throughout, including beach, swim-up, and sports bars. Guests can enjoy an array of outdoor recreational activities, including tennis, batting cages, mini-golf, pickleball, a bungee experience, and a driving range. A spa and fitness center is also offered onsite.

Best for Boutique-style Experience : Dreams Curaçao Resort Spa & Casino

Dreams Curaçao Resort Spa & Casino

With fewer than 200 rooms, Dreams Curaçao Resort Spa & Casino offers a boutique hotel feel without sacrificing all-inclusive benefits.

Child care, separate from kids’ club; spa products by Pevonia; nightly entertainment including theme nights and parties

Range of casual and upscale dining options

Fitness center includes accessories like yoga mats and exercise balls

Guests have noted long wait times at the bar and restaurants during peak hours

Dreams Curaçao Resort, Spa & Casino is considered one of the smaller resorts in the Dreams portfolio with fewer than 200 rooms. As such, it’s a great choice for travelers in search of a more intimate all-inclusive experience. Curaçao is recognized as a world-class diving destination, and staff can help book diving and snorkeling excursions. They can also arrange child care for adults looking for some private time, whether it be aquatic recreation, spa treatments, or mouthwatering meals at the resort’s seafood, Tex-Mex, or Italian-inspired restaurants.

The modern resort takes advantage of the island nation’s idyllic weather with airy spaces and tropical motifs with pops of orange, teal, and natural fiber accents. The resort’s Club Level rooms include ocean views and a furnished patio, personal concierge service, and access to The Preferred Club lounge for complimentary daily breakfast, afternoon snacks, and top-shelf liquor.

Whether you’re headed to Mexico, the Caribbean, or the Balearic Islands, among other wonderful destinatons, you’ll find a luxurious, all-inclusive experience at Dreams Resorts & Spas. No matter where you stay, access to its dining and drinking establishments, most activities, and impressive pool areas (many with ocean views) are included in its Unlimited Luxury all-inclusive program. For 2022, Dreams Sapphire Resort & Spa is our top overall pick. Keep an eye out for Dreams resorts locations in Cozumel and yet another Punta Cana locale to come later in 2022.

We reviewed the Dreams Resort & Spas portfolio and evaluated each for standout amenities, service, location, and recent renovations and refurbishments. Special consideration was given to perks unique to the Dreams portfolio, such as a spa’s hydrotherapy circuit or full-service salon.

If you feel like you need a vacation, you aren’t alone. After a long winter, the spring and summer travel season is fast approaching, which means it’s time to think about what you’ll pack. In the midst of packing your designer luggage and travel tote , you can’t forget to put on your best travel shoes. As you may only be taking a few pairs, these need to check off all the boxes. Considering the hours you’ll be walking and sightseeing, comfort and versatility are the first things to come to mind—but, no doubt, you also want options that pair well with multiple looks. You may choose to go the summer sandal route or opt for a sneaker —two great options. But you are going on vacation, after all; why shouldn’t they be cute and practical?

When discussing the more logistical aspects of what shoes to bring, consider the potential wear and tear on your feet. You want to come back from your trip rested and relaxed, not worried about problems caused by wearing improper footwear. To start your trip on a positive note, Dr. Danielle Edwards , a New York-based podiatrist, suggests that a pair of sneakers should be your go-to during long travel days, especially when you may be at an airport for hours and then on a plane.
