Mirissa is best enjoyed as part of a larger Sri Lankan adventure, with the historic fort of Galle an hour’s drive away, and surfer’s paradise Matara just 30 minutes along the coast road. Leave the south coast behind to visit the world-famous city of Kandy and take an iconic train ride through tea country to the wellness haven of Ella .

Temperatures in Mirissa fluctuate just a couple of degrees throughout the year, with highs between 84F (29C) and 89F (32C). Frequent rainfall is to be expected from May to November, but these showers typically pass quickly.

Tourists have flocked to the former Portuguese enclave of Goa for decades to enjoy its vast golden beaches, famous party scene, and mesmerizing sunsets.

Lounge on one of the island’s luxurious beaches or head to more secluded sands, where refreshments are available from palm leaf shacks. Shopping is a true cultural experience in Goa —there’s the famous tourist bazaar Anjuna Flea market, as well as the newer Saturday Night Market at Arpora, which becomes a hopping nightlife spot as the sun sets. Don’t miss Aswem, a painfully cool spot on the north Goan coast that regularly attracts A-listers to its upscale resorts and clubs among the sand dunes.

Hot weather is guaranteed in Goa, with average temperatures fluctuating from 77F (25C) in January to 86F (30C) in May. Monsoon season typically lasts from June to September, however, which can thwart beach days.

Sal, Cabo Verde

The golden sands of the well-developed Santa Maria Beach are a favored tourist hotspot in Sal, while Ponta Preta Beach offers more rugged scenery, and windsurfers flock to Kite Beach. As the sun sets over Santa Maria, live music, traditional dancing and cocktail bars are to be expected.

There’s a unique experience to be had at Pedra de Lume—the site of a former salt mine in the crater of an extinct volcano—where the saltwater is believed to have therapeutic properties. Meanwhile, divers flock to Buracona, or ‘The Blue Eye’, where they plunge into a cave filled with blue water brilliantly lit by the sun. It’s also possible to use Sal as a jumping off point to explore Cabo Verde’s other islands .

Sal is one of those rare destinations that is great to visit at any time of year thanks to its dry tropical climate. The mercury rises to an average daily high of 87F (31C) in August, while in February—the coldest month—temperatures peak at an average 77F (25C).

Aruba , Caribbean

Year-round sunshine is just one of the benefits of spending a vacation in this Caribbean haven. Miles of white sand beaches are complemented by incredible wildlife-spotting opportunities and outstanding hikes. The adventure is topped off by Oranjestad—the quaint, colorful capital.

Nature lovers should not miss the island’s donkey sanctuary, butterfly farm and ostrich farm. Meanwhile, the island’s second highest peak, Hooiberg, is a 587-stair challenge for hikers. Popular beaches include Eagle Beach, Palm Beach and Baby Beach—and Andicuri Beach is a true surfer’s paradise, with limestone cliffs and crashing waves.

Average highs remain above 86F (30C) throughout the year, and Caribbean hurricanes rarely make landfall on the island.

As someone who’s actively checking places off my travel bucket list , I can’t say I’ve been everywhere (yet!) So I recruited some of my fellow travel blogging friends to help create this huge list.

You’ll love these destinations and just might even wonder how you’ll fit more than one trip to a warm weather destination this winter. 😊

Let’s dive in!

Map of the best places to visit in the winter in USA

If you’re a visual person like I am, this map will help you locate a perfect spot and plan your trip.

Each destination includes average temperatures you can expect for the area. These temps are what’s normal for January – in the heart of winter when most of us are trying to escape the cold!

Warm winter vacations USA

Starting this list off with a few favorites…but let’s be honest, they’re all fantastic! From beaches to deserts…here we go!

1. San Diego, California

San Diego California coastline with white waves blue ocean rocky ledge

Average temp:  high 66 / low 50

Starting this list off with a bang! San Diego is a delight to visit any time of year, but it’s definitely one of the top warm winter vacations in the USA. With temperatures averaging in the mid-60’s all winter long, it’s a perfect escape from cold weather.

Whether you’re planning a weekend in San Diego or a longer vacation, there’s plenty of things to do to occupy your time. While the ocean temperature is too cold for most people to enjoy it, watching the waves and enjoying the salty air is the perfect activity.

If you’re into Mexican food and culture, be sure to check out Old Town San Diego , which is the birthplace of California. With over a dozen delicious spots to eat, you could literally eat for dayyyyys here. So good!

For a more bougie atmosphere, head on over to La Jolla Cove for an afternoon. Grab dinner and gelato with amazing views of the coast. Downtown San Diego boasts the Gaslamp Quarter, perfect for restaurants and nightlife.

History lovers will enjoy the USS Midway and art fanatics should check out Balboa Park. Of course, beaches are plentiful so be sure to enjoy Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach and Coronado Beach.

2. Sedona, Arizona

sedona arizona skyline with red rocks at sunset

Average temp:  high 60 / low 34

With high temperatures hovering at a comfortable 60 degrees in Sedona, it’s one of the best warm winter vacations in the US! The crowds have gone, prices are more affordable and the deep red rock scenes are just as cool.

Sedona is perfect for couples! At night you may want to cozy up by the fire, which many resorts and restaurants have running just for you. During the day, hit the trails! Just make sure to pack your hiking shoes with traction , incase you find any slippery spots on the slick rock surface.

Try the popular Devil’s Bridge or Cathedral Rock for excellent hikes with a good amount of challenge, both worth the views! Or take it easy at Fay Canyon Trail or Seven Sacred Pools.

Perhaps one of the coolest things to do in Sedona is stargaze at night. With the stark backdrop of the nearby cliffs, it’s a perfect spot for it!

3. Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico village vibrant buildings along seashore

Average temp:  high 84 / low 66

Few destinations within the United States are warmer in the winter than the island territory of Puerto Rico. The island is pleasant all throughout the winter, but January and February tend to have the most consistently pleasant weather, with average highs around 80 degrees and lows around 75 degrees.

Plus, the Atlantic hurricane season has passed by winter, so it’s really the perfect time to visit Puerto Rico. Just be aware that these months also coincide with high season, so it’s best to reserve your hotels well in advance.

Most visitors to Puerto Rico enter through the capital city of San Juan. If you’re just visiting for a shorter getaway, the easiest thing to do is to base yourself out of the historic Old San Juan . Explore the old Spanish fortress, meander the cobblestone streets, and enjoy the many boutique hotels , shops and restaurants.

You can get just about anywhere in Puerto Rico from San Juan, so it’s the perfect base for day trips around the island . Chase waterfalls in El Yunque National Rainforest, the only tropical rainforest in the United States.

Go surfing at La Pared Beach in Luquillo. Visit Culebra and the stunning Flamenco Beach . Take a day trip to Icacos Island from Fajardo. Or go night kayaking in one of Puerto Rico’s bioluminescent bays, or visit the Black Sand Beach in Vieques !

Whatever you do, you’ll soon realize why Puerto Rico is one of the best places to visit in winter in USA!

4. St. Croix, USVI (one of the most beautiful places to visit in winter in USA)

Average temp:  high 82 / low 71

A true Caribbean getaway, and yet one of the best warm winter vacations USA is St. Croix. Because it’s a US territory, you won’t need a passport if you’re a US citizen. It makes getting there quite convenient.

A lush, tropical island part of the US Virgin Islands (St. John and St. Thomas are the others you can visit), it’s a picturesque getaway when you’re craving sunshine during the dreary winter.

Visiting St. Croix, you’ll likely spend some time in the town of Christiansted. Hang out on the Boardwalk, marvel at the Danish architecture and grab a bite to eat with an ocean view.

With over 20 gorgeous beaches in St. Croix, you’re sure to have some beach fun, too. Visit the famous Rainbow Beach or the less crowded beaches at Sandy Point National Wildlife Refuge.

Go snorkeling, stand up paddleboarding, kayaking or take a day trip to Buck Island. There’s so many things to do in St. Croix, you certainly won’t get bored!

Book a photo shoot: The best souvenir, booking a photo shoot while traveling preserves memories of your vacation! I love Flytographer because the photo sessions are fun, easy and affordable. you can get $25 off if you book through this link or use the code SSST.

5. Miami, Florida

Average temp:  high 74 / low 63

If you’re looking for the best warm winter destinations in the USA, you have to add Miami to your list. Located in southeastern Florida, this city is blessed with warm weather and sunshine all year round.

In winter temperatures average around 68°F (ranging from the lowest at 60°F and highest at 73°C) and there are as little as 6 rainfall days per month. It’s the perfect warm getaway for the cold December, January and February months.

Miami is ideal also because it has loads to offer. You can spend your days on the beach if you choose to, but there are also lots of exciting things to do in the city. From street art tours to visiting interesting museums… in Miami there is something for everyone.

Discovering the street art of Wynwood is without a doubt one of the highlights in Miami. You can do a guided cycling tour, so as to see as much as possible of the neighbourhood, while learning about the street art from local art fans.

Exploring Little Havana, and learning about the Cuban influence and history in Miami is also an extremely interesting activity.

If you want to try some delicious food you can also head to Espanola Way. Here you will find a lovely pedestrian street, with a distinctive Spanish vibe; with flamenco dancers and cute restaurants offering tasty paella and tapas.

Regardless of whether you’re planning to spend a month or  weekend in Miami , or whether you plan to relax on the beach or discover the history of this unique city, Miami is the perfect warm getaway for this winter.

6. Orange Beach, Alabama (a favorite on this list of warm winter vacations USA)

white sand blue water and sky with pier in alabama

Average temp:  high 63 / low 42

White sand beaches in Alabama? Yessss please! This area of the USA is often underrated, which makes it the perfect spot for a warm winter vacation. With less crowds than it’s popular Gulf Coast beach counterparts, Orange Beach is great for families, couples, solos or friends’ trips.

Pristine, white sand and temperatures in the upper 50’s and lower 60’s, it’s great for relaxing on the beach. While the water may be a bit too cool to swim, you’ll be able to soak up some rays and enjoy the salty air of the Gulf.

Make sure to check out The Wharf at Orange Beach where you’ll find tons of shopping, dining and nightlife. If you’re feeling active, the biking and hiking trails at Gulf State Park is the perfect spot for you. And before you leave, you’ll want to check out the Gulf State Park Pier, too.

Orange Beach, Alabama offers spots to stay right on the beach for the best views or find budget-friendly accommodations a little further inland.

7. Las Vegas, Nevada

view of Las Vegas strip with buildings and orange sunset winter vacations usa

Average temp:  high 59 / low 28

Las Vegas deserves a spot on everyone’s bucket list of places to visit . Picture a getaway filled with gambling, shopping, eating, drinking and seeing the world (or at least, miniature replicas of the world’s landmarks).

Sin City is a verified inferno during summer months, and your visit is bound to be much more comfortable in the milder winter. Traveling to Vegas in January or February ensures you enjoy moderate hotel rates and temperatures in the mid 60s. But make sure to pack a light jacket for when the desert nights cool off!

Vegas is the ultimate destination for people-watching, and in balmy February weather, you can secure an outdoor table along the Strip to see what all of the city’s locals and visitors are up to. The patios at El Segundo Sol or Lavo at the Palazzo are two excellent options for prime people-watching and delicious eats.

Las Vegas has plenty more to offer beyond the air-conditioned casinos and shops. Soak up the sun at one of numerous lush golf courses, or hike along trails in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area to check out Nevada’s more natural scenery.

You can even extend your trip to more sunny destinations with fabulous day trips from Vegas , like catching a bus to Los Angeles can be as cheap as $20.

Whether your winter escape is an itinerary of several Southwestern stops or a full week in one lavish resort on the Vegas strip, you’ll find a plethora of enticing reasons to head to Las Vegas.

8. Anna Maria Island, Florida – one of the best places to visit in winter (USA)

warm winter vacations usa view of Anna Maria island beach in florida green water white sand from above

Average temp:  high 71 / low 52

With gorgeous beaches and small-town vibes, this Florida gem is perfect for a winter getaway. Fly into Sarasota for the closest airport, and you’ll be at a warm beach within the hour. Anna Maria Island is one of the best places to visit in winter in the USA, just when you need it most!

Spend days at the beaches enjoying the gorgeous views and sunsets that feel oh so magical. Visit the Anna Maria Pier, devour the tacos at Poppo’s Taqueria and hit Bradenton Beach for the best shopping on the island.

Spend your days hunting for seashells at Coquina Beach or basking in the sun and white sand at Bean Point. With so many things to do in Anna Maria Island , you’ll want to savor every moment before it’s time to leave this paradise!

It’s best to look at small hotels, condos or vacation rentals here as there aren’t big chains on the island. Because of this, book your accommodations in advance for the best rates!

9. Maui, Hawaii (a favorite on this list of warm winter vacations USA)

best place to visit in winter in usa view of rocky beach and coastline blue water and sky

Average temp:  high 70 / low 64

Of course this list of the warm winter vacations USA has to include Hawaii! One of the most popular tourist spots within this gorgeous island chain is Maui. Beautiful sandy beaches and weather nice enough for swimming in the ocean, Maui is a perfect vacation spot for couples, families, solos or even a fun girl’s trip!

And bonus: it’s more affordable than you think! There’s even a ton of things to do in Maui on a budget . Hiking the Waihee Ridge Trail , exploring waterfalls, snorkeling and enjoying the gorgeous beaches are all free!

But perhaps the very best reason to travel to Maui in the winter is because it’s whale season! Humpback whales migrate to Hawaii every winter, with February being the peak season. As someone who’s been on the island during the peak, I can tell you it’s seriously magical! Taking a whale watching tour to see them is a phenomenal experience, too!

Because it’s a popular winter destination, be sure to book your accommodations and rental car early for the best pricing. Look at spots on the sunniest and least rainy side of the island, the western side. It’s home to the famous Kaanapali Beach and Lahaina, so the western side is typically bustling with tourists.

More warm winter vacations in the US

Can you believe this list? And we’re only getting started! More underrated spots and you-gotta-see spots are right up ahead…

10. New Orleans, Louisiana

building with plants on deck in new orleans

Average temp:  high 64 / low 85

If you’re looking for the best places to visit in winter in USA, look no further than New Orleans! First, let’s talk weather! If you visit NOLA in summer, you are stuck with scorching heat.

Now, you want a warm destination, but you don’t want to be too hot! That is why visiting New Orleans in winter is the perfect time to go. Temperatures range from 60-70’s which is a great temperature for exploring outdoors, visiting historic places and dining on balconies.

While there is no bad time to visit in winter, January and February are both great months for different reasons! January is Joan of Arc’s birthday and there is a parade each year and Epiphany also falls in January which marks the start of Mardi Gras!

If you choose February, you will be visiting during Black History month. In a city with lots of Black history, what could be a better time to visit and enjoy some of the Black-owned restaurants the city has to offer.

No matter what time of year you choose for your  New Orleans itinerary , there is something for everyone and the weather is great. Not scorching hot, but not cold either!

11. American Samoa

warm winter destinations usa palm trees and rocky shoreline with blue water

Average temp:  high 87 / low 78

American Samoa is one of the most underrated destinations on this list, and rarely traveled to by US citizens because of it’s remote location. But when you arrive, oh goodness it’s worth every second!

To get to American Samoa in the South Pacific, you’ll need to travel to Hawaii first, with flights operating only twice weekly to the islands of American Samoa. It’s about a 6 hour flight from Honolulu to Pago Pago, American Samoa.

With a warm, humid climate, you can expect to see some rainfall which creates the beautiful greenery on the lush, tropical island. January is the most rainy, so for a warm winter getaway I’d recommend November or late February for more sunshine if you’re looking for that during a warm winter vacations USA.

Be sure to visit the  National Park of American Samoa , which is most certainly an island paradise. Protecting the local nature and ancestry of the Samoa, you’ll learn about the local culture and species that call this paradise home. Ofu Beach is a highlight within the park, so don’t skip it!

Swim in the tide pools at Poloa, take a day trip to Aunu’u, or for the most incredible beaches and scenery, head to Manu’a from the mainland of American Samoa.

It’s one of the best places to visit in winter in USA, and one that you’ll love!

12. Orlando, Florida

beautiful places to visit in whiner in usa Christmas tree inside building white balconies

Average temp:  high 72 / low 51

If you’re looking for one of the best warm winter vacations in the US, you need to add Orlando, Florida, to your list. December, January and February are 3 of the best months to visit Orlando.

Winter in Orlando means the perfect cooler weather with low humidity, no hurricanes, and less crowds at the theme parks. If you’re planning a trip to Orlando during the winter and planning to visit the theme parks, try to avoid holiday weekends and school holidays as the lines get long with everyone wanting to enjoy the nicer weather.

One of the best parts of visiting Orlando in the winter is visiting in December and experiencing all of the amazing things to do in Orlando at Christmas . While the theme parks decorate and have lots of amazing events, you can also find free community events featuring Santa, outdoor ice skating rinks, lots of Christmas lights and even “snow”.

Quick note: check out these Florida quotes to that will inspire and compliment your vacation to Orlando!

If you visit anytime in the winter, make sure to enjoy some of the natural springs in the area. While they feel cold in the hot summer sun, the refreshing 70 degree water doesn’t feel so bad when it matches the air temperature. Rent a canoe or paddleboards or just visit one of the local swimming holes such as the one at Wekiwa Springs.

You can’t go wrong visiting Orlando in the winter, so add it to your US winter vacation bucket list and start planning your trip to the happiest place on Earth!

13. Mustang Island, Texas (one of the most underrated places to visit in winter in USA)

beach at mustang island from above lots of white waves blue water

Located near Corpus Christi is the beautiful Mustang Island. Commercial tourism hasn’t completely taken over the island, leaving more sand and surf to enjoy. In fact, Mustang Island is one of the most underrated spots on this list of warm winter vacations (USA).

Texas beaches are known for their adventure. Driving on a beach here is welcome – and encouraged! Drive up and down the coast to find a perfect picnic spot for the day.

The best place to stay on Mustang Island is Lively Beach . It’s close enough to take a day trip to the Padre Island National Seashore, where you’ll find 60+ miles of beaches to drive and roam on.

Or to the north is Port Aransas, or ‘Port A’ as the locals call it. Check out restaurants and shopping in the quaint downtown area, or the pier for the best views of the coast!

Winter is a perfect time to visit Mustang Island. Expect high’s in the 60s and way less crowds than spring break or the middle of summer – which is honestly a bonus when planning a winter getaway!

While many people traveling to Corpus Christi stay in town, venture a little further out to Mustang Island to find one of the best Texas vacation spots.

14. Savannah, Georgia

Average temp:  high 61 / low 41

Just off the Georgia coast is the picturesque city of Savannah. Best known for its charming cobblestone streets, massive oaks and stately Southern mansions, it’s easy to feel as if you’ve stepped back in time in Savannah!

The holiday season is a popular time to visit, especially since the Historic District looks like something straight out of a Hallmark movie. The weather is generally mild in December, but pack a light sweater in case the weather cools down at night.

Some of the must-see highlights include Cathedral St. John the Baptist, Bonaventure Cemetery, River Street, Jones Street and the Forsyth Park fountain. This popular  one-day Savannah itinerary  includes many of the most photogenic spots within the Historic District.

The Olde Pink House restaurant is known for its authentic Southern-style dishes, with mouth-watering menu items like their signature BLT Salad, Pecan Fried Chicken, Mac n’ Cheese Poppers, and a Praline Basket for dessert. (TIP: Make reservations six weeks in advance!)

Of course, no trip to Savannah would be complete without a ghost tour ! The city is considered one of the most haunted places in America. Tours operate year-round, and the walking ones are usually the scariest options.

The Marshall House  is one of the best all-around hotels within the Historic District. It’s located on Broughton Street, so it’s just steps away from restaurants, bars, shops, and landmarks. The  JW Marriott Plant Riverside  is another option, and the hotel and adjacent shops host a charming Christmas Market and numerous holiday events.

It’s the furthest south in the continental USA and it’s a perfect destination to solve any wintertime blues! Visiting Key West is a fun stop whether you’re planning cruise featuring Key West, a Miami to Key West road trip or a stay at just this island!

Key West has a bit of a reputation for being a party island…and truth be told, it is! There’s a ton of shopping, restaurants and bars. The island isn’t very heavy on beaches, although Smathers Beach is worth a visit.

And of course, tasting the famous key lime pie while you’re on the island. No judgement if you try it at all the restaurants, either…you’re on vacation!

Be sure to check out Mallory Square, the Key West Lighthouse, Duval Street and of course, enjoying water activities like a snorkeling tour and jet skiing.

If you love snorkeling and history, be sure to check out Dry Tortugas National Park, a day trip from Key West and one of the best things to do in Florida !

As someone who’s traveled to Hawaii many times, I can tell you with certainty that it’s one of the top winter vacations in the USA. With less crowds than peak summer season, Oahu is home to beautiful sunshine, gorgeous weather and the Pacific Ocean warm enough to swim in.

If you’re up for delicious restaurants and fun nightlife, stay in the popular Waikiki Beach area of Honolulu. If you crave nature and the outdoors to explore, the North Shore sounds right for you.

From visiting icons like Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head, to beaching and Oahu hikes you’ll love , you’ll be saying Aloha to the warm weather Hawaii offers all winter long.

Pro tip: if it’s your first time to Hawaii, I recommend island-hopping to see more! Split your time between multiple islands to see what the others have to offer.

17. Tucson, Arizona

Heading to Tucson, Arizona is one of the best places to visit in winter in USA. It’s fantastic to visit in January or February as it is not a very crowded place and the weather is perfect – warm enough to wear jeans and a shirt or light jacket.

There are a ton of cool things to do in Tucson, with the highlight being a visit to Saguaro National Park. This is a perfect place to hang out in the wintertime as it has over 30 different hiking trails through the Saguaro cacti. You can easily spend a day or two just exploring the park.

Other awesome things to do in Tucson include the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, the Pima Air and Space Museum and the Franklin Auto Museum. Wine lovers will love visiting one of the tasting rooms like Sand-Reckoner or heading to Willcox for wineries.

Food-wise, Agustin Kitchen is one of the best restaurants in Tucson for dinner. Seis Kitchen or Nook are delicious breakfast stops. Also, make sure to pop into La Estrella Bakery for the best pan dulce.

I recommend staying at Hotel Congress as it’s in a fantastic location and has adorable rooms. You can also stay by the airport to save money. No matter what, there is a ton of fun things to keep you busy in Tucson.

18. Charleston, South Carolina

Average temp:  high 57 / low 43

A great southern escape in the dreary winter is no further than Charleston, South Carolina. It’s common to see 60’s in February, which is a dream for most of the USA!

During the winter in Charleston, one of the best things to do is visit the  Magnolia Plantation and Gardens . It’s the oldest public gardens in the USA, and has won awards over and over. It’s truly stunning, and a great spot to visit, even in wintertime.

Shop, dine and find entertainment in the historic downtown district. King Street is a main stretch where you’ll find beautiful architecture and even better food.

Of course you can’t visit Charleston in winter without seeing the beach. Although temperatures will be too cold for swimming, it’s still warm enough to enjoy the sights and sounds of the waves. Walk the beach looking for sea shells , or if you’re traveling with young kids, bring sand toys and let them build castles.

19. Los Angeles, California

Los Angeles boardwalk with carnival rides and ocean on a warm winter getaway in usa

Average temp:  high 68 / low 49

Los Angeles, California is easily one of the best winter getaways in the U.S. You can enjoy average temperatures of 68-70 degrees and above from the months of January, February, and March. During the winter months in Los Angeles, you will also experience fewer crowds!

Because of exceptionally warm winter temperatures, this makes Los Angeles the perfect destination to enjoy hiking and beach-going in California.

Some of the best things to add to your Los Angeles itinerary in the winter include taking a bike ride down the Venice Boardwalk, enjoying a swim at Venice Beach, exploring the Santa Monica Pier, seeing the stars at Hollywood Blvd and taking the famous hike to the Hollywood Sign.

Other popular hikes to enjoy in Los Angles are at Runyon Canyon and around Griffith Observatory. Griffith Observatory also offers the perfect place to experience the sunset over Downtown Los Angeles and star gazing.

If you love theme parks, you can enjoy Disney California Adventure Park and Universal Studios Hollywood without the extreme heat of the summer or the crowds.

Another special experience you can have in Los Angeles is viewing the Grey Whale migration. They migrate from December through April and travel from Alaska to Mexico. The Grey Whale migration is also known as one of the longest annual mammal migrations covering upward of 8,000 plus miles.

Furthermore, the months of February and March in LA are also when many award shows are happening including the Grammy Awards and Golden Globe Awards. So if you love award season or want to try to have a glimpse of the stars, the winter months in LA are for you!

20. Siesta Key, Florida (one of the top places to visit in winter in USA)

Average temp:  high 72 / low 50

Siesta Key is a strip of land just west of Sarasota, Florida. You won’t find high rise hotels here, instead smaller, family-run hotels, condos and vacation rentals .

Rated one of the top beaches in the USA, Siesta Key, Florida is a gorgeous beach any time of year. December, January and February are exceptionally special because it’s still warm and you’ll get plenty of vitamin D with Florida’s sunshine!

Visit Siesta Key Village for the most shopping and dining options. Ride the free trolley to the many gorgeous beaches and restaurants around the strip. Or get your adrenaline pumping with kiteboarding or parasailing!

Aside from beach activities, some of the top things to do in Siesta Key are devouring Meaney’s Mini Donuts, biking the island or kayaking through mangrove tunnels .

Visit Siesta Key Florida for a weekend or week-long getaway during winter. You’ll be glad you did!

21. Channel Islands National Park, California

places to go during winter view of hillside ridge jutting up from ocean

Average temp:  high 63 / low 52

One of my favorites on this list of warm winter vacations USA is also one of the most underrated vacation destinations ! The National Park Service refers to Channel Islands NP as “Close to the California Mainland…Yet Worlds Apart.” And it’s so true!

It’s one of America’s least visited National Parks, likely because it requires a ferry ride from the mainland. However the 5 uninhabited islands of Santa Cruz, Anacapa, San Miguel, Santa Barbara and Santa Rosa more than make up for the travel there!

You can opt to ride the ferry back and forth for as many days as you’d like, or you can opt to camp on the islands. Just be sure to book your campsite in advance. Spend your days hiking and kayaking (book a tour in advance), and otherwise enjoying the views.

Pro tip: come prepared. There’s no services on the island for food, trash, etc. Potable water is available at the campsites.

I’d recommend a hotel in Ventura , as it’s the closest to the ferry. With high’s in the 60’s during winter, this is definitely one of the best warm winter getaways in the USA! Visiting the Channel Islands National park could be part of a larger California Coast road trip , or an off-the-grid national park adventure!

22. South Padre Island, Texas

places to go during winter view of pink sunset on beach with birds

Average temp:  high 69 / low 55

South Padre Island is a popular getaway and one of the best places to go during winter, especially for people who live in the southern part of the US. Situated on the coastal tip of Texas in the Gulf of Mexico, it’s the only tropical island in all of Texas.

While spring break is an especially busy time to visit South Padre, December is a popular month for those wanting to get away to someplace warm for Christmas break. Many of the hotels fill up, so you’ll want to book accommodations in advance for your vacation there.

While the rest of the country may be experiencing winter weather, South Padre averages a balmy 71℉ and just over an inch of rain for December.

The ocean might be too chilly for some people to enjoy, but there’s still plenty to do there. For starters, be sure to check out the results of the annual sandcastle building contest that are kept for viewing year-round.

Sea Turtle, Inc. is one of the top attractions where visitors can see them up close and learn more about what’s being done to protect them. South Padre is also a bird watcher’s paradise with a 5-story watchtower at the Birding and Nature Center where you’ll likely see many of the migrating birds to the area.

Winter is also a great time to book a tour out on the water to see the dolphins or take a sunset dinner cruise. South Padre Island is a warm-weather vacation destination that has attractions for just about everyone!

23. Kauai, Hawaii (an absolute favorite on this list of best places to visit in winter, USA)

best winter vacations for couples view of Waimea canyon kauai colorful ridges lush forest

Average temp:  high 72 / low 54

The most lush and impeccably beautiful of the Hawaiian islands (and my personal favorite), Kauai is a perfect retreat from cold weather. Home to the NaPali Coast and Waimea Canyon, this island is meant to be explored! Its stunning scenery is unparalleled by any other spot in the USA, with its lush greenery and gorgeous beaches.

If you’re looking to relax on the beach – choose another destination on this list. But if you’re up for adventure, try hiking first 2 miles of the the Kalalau Trail , viewing waterfalls up close and personal inside the Waimea Canyon or visiting one of the best snorkeling spots on Kauai .

By far one of my favorite experiences in Kauai was seeing it from the air. Taking a scenic flight through the Waimea Canyon and NaPali Coast is a truly unforgettable experience!

Of course there’s plenty of time for rest, too. Hang out at the palm-tree lined beach at Poipu and watch the sunset. Or see some of the best Kauai beaches on the North Shore.

Pro tip: be sure to pack right for Kauai. From water shoes to hiking poles, there’s a lot to do here and packing the right gear will make your vacation ultra smooth. Here’s a list of what to pack for Hawaii .

One of the best adventure vacations in the US , is Kauai calling your name?

24. St. John, US Virgin Islands

Average temp:  high 78 / low 67

We’re taking tropical to a whole other level here! St John is the smallest of the 3 major US Virgin Islands, and an absolutely perfect warm winter getaway. The island is covered by over 60% national park and the rest is gorgeous beaches, hiking trails and just a few businesses.

Expect temperatures in the upper 70’s for your stay in the US Virgin Islands over the winter.

Visit the Virgin Islands National Park and check out the ancient petroglyphs and epic hiking trails. Get another look into the island’s past by visiting the Annaberg Sugar Plantation Ruins. And when it’s time for a drink, check out the local brewery – St. John Brewers.

With gorgeous weather, be sure to visit the beautiful Trunk Bay for its pristine beach and turquoise ocean. If you’re up for some snorkeling, check out Watermelon Cay, Maho Bay and Salt Pond.

It can be a little tricky getting to St. John, but it’s sooo worth it! You’ll want to fly into St. Thomas, USVI. From there, you’ll need to take a taxi from the airport to a ferry. The ferries depart every hour, and it’s about a 20 minute ride over to St. John.

Because St. John has been really beat up in recent years with hurricanes, there’s not very many places to stay until rebuilding is complete. For that reason, accommodations tend to be pricey and they book up fast. So book your hotel early!

25. Huntington Beach, California

warm winter vacations in the US view of beach and pier white waves blue ocean sunny sky

Average temp:  high 64 / low 49

There’s nothing better than escaping cold, snowy weather for a balmy beach vacation during the winter. Thankfully, Southern California has plenty of beaches that fit the bill – including Huntington Beach!

Huntington Beach is nicknamed “Surf City USA” because it hosts the largest surfing competition in the world, the Vans US Open of Surfing, each summer.

That said, winter is a great time to visit Huntington Beach – the weather is still warm, with temperatures averaging in the mid-60s, but the summer tourists are gone. This shift leaves the bustling beach town unusually quiet – the perfect time to explore!

During your trip, enjoy some of the  best things to do in Huntington Beach , like watching the sunset from the Huntington Beach Pier or biking along the beach’s 8.5-mile stretch. When the weather cools off in the evenings, grab a sweater and relax with a beach bonfire at Huntington City Beach.

When you’re ready to shake off the sand, peruse the surf shops in Downtown Huntington Beach or shop from brand-name designers and local boutiques in Pacific City.

Plus, you can check out local places to eat, like the Sugar Shack Café for traditional breakfast items and Fred’s Mexican Café and Cantina for authentic dishes, like tacos, burritos, and of course, margaritas!

28. Truth or Consequences, New Mexico

Average temp:  high 57 / low 27

It’s a real town with a funny name. It also happens to be one of the best warm winter vacations in the US, as it’s one of the warmest spots in New Mexico.

With average temperatures in the upper 50’s and mostly sunny, this will feel like a true vacation, especially if you’re coming from a northern climate.

But real quick, let’s address this funny name. Formerly known as Hot Springs, the town adopted a new name in 1950 when a TV game show was looking for a town to adopt the popular show’s name. And so it did!

Anyway, back to why you should visit in the winter. There are quite a few things to do in Truth or Consequences, and outdoor adventure lead the way. Nearby White Sands National Park is home to some pretty jaw-dropping sights.

Go hiking or boating at  Elephant Butte Lake State Park , which is just a few minutes drive from town. Soak in mountain views at Caballo Lake State Park, or check out the hiking and gardens at Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park.

In town, be sure to visit some popular hot springs, which are fun to experience in a mild winter climate. And of course, catch river views of the Rio Grande, which runs alongside the town.

29. Clearwater, Florida

Average temp:  high 70 / low 50

Imagine setting the alarm for 6:30 am back home where it is cold and grey in February. There might be snow piled up in the front yard. But pull on a sweater and head to Clearwater Beach, Florida!

Expect the traveler’s spirits to rise who escapes winter to soak up the sun on the Gulf Coast. Join the athletic as they run, bike and walk across the Clearwater Memorial Causeway Bridge. Down below gaze at the yachts, boats and sandy beaches.

For sunbirds, Clearwater is a great place to land. It wins numerous accolades including USA Today’s “Top 10 Beach in America.” Clearwater is on the path for migratory birds so birdwatchers will delight. Clearwater is a short drive to St. Petersburg or Tampa Bay for dinner in the city.

Choices of entertainment are endless but be sure to visit the Clearwater Marine Aquarium (home of Winter, star of The Dolphin Tale movie).

Spend an afternoon jet-skiing, parasailing or fishing. Clearwater is a perfect destination December through February but the warmest temperatures are in February. The average high temperatures can reach the low 70s.

Best place to stay? If price is not object, then book Pier House 60 Clearwater Beach Resort . It is just a short hop to the Pier to enjoy marvelous sunsets as well as street performers and craft vendors each night. Or if you want to stay on the nearby island, book the Sheraton Sand Key Resort .

Ending this list with another Florida beach. They’re popular for a reason! The crisp, white sand on Florida’s panhandle is unbelievably beautiful. And with high’s in the 60’s during even the harshest winter months, Destin is a great spot for a warm winter vacation.

Destin is a great destination for couples or families, groups or bachelorette parties. Family-friendly activities like go-karts, arcades and mini golf, not to mention the beach! And for adult-only trips, Destin has a fantastic restaurant and nightlife scene.

Feeling the chill? Consider these 10 US warm winter-vacation destinations

Nov 16, 2023 • 6 min read

top 10 warm places to visit

Travelers face two reasonable responses to the prospect of a long, cold winter: embrace the chill and seek out the most spectacular winter destinations , or follow the warmth – wherever you can find it.

If you’ve had your fill of icy sidewalks and overheated buildings, no one will blame you for choosing option two. And  US travelers don’t even need to leave the country to ditch the scarves and mittens.

Whether you’re after a beach escape, a wildlife adventure or a dose of big-city culture, here’s where to find fun in the sun this winter.

Santa Barbara, California

Just under two hours northwest of Los Angeles , Santa Barbara is a getaway destination perfect for beach strolls and canyon hikes. Celebrity sightings are common here (Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Jennifer Lopez and Oprah Winfrey are among the area’s most notable residents), yet the real attraction is its upscale yet relaxed beach-town energy. Stroll the State St Promenade for unique shops, artisan food and wine stores, plus plenty of outdoor dining options. Follow it all the way to West Beach , where the more adventurous can rent kayaks and stand-up paddleboards and those just out for a great view can stroll Stearns Wharf .

A hummingbird with its beak inside a red flower at the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Phoenix, Arizona

There’s a simple reason 15 Major League Baseball teams relocate to Arizona for training before the real season starts: the weather is simply phenomenal, with  Phoenix getting 299 days of sunshine every year on average. In the middle of summer, when temperatures regularly shoot past 100°F, you might wish for some relief – but the clear-blue-sky, mid-70s days of late winter are ideal for outdoor fun.

If you’re not there for the baseball, you can at least see why it’s called the “Cactus League” at the Desert Botanical Garden , where the succulents and spiny plants of the desert mingle with art exhibitions. Or hit the trail and explore the sandstone formations of Papago Park, or pedal through South Mountain Park, a favorite among trail riders.

A woman taking a photo from a kayak in the Everglades, Florida

The Everglades, Florida

Maybe those baseball teams are onto something: while half of the league is in Arizona, the rest are warming up in Florida . The Sunshine State has the warmest temperatures on the US mainland during the winter, and the warmest national park  (outside of Hawaii ) is the Everglades . Winter is the dry season here, making it one of the most popular times of year for visitors – as well as for spotting wildlife. The drying of the marshes makes animals congregate in smaller areas, and migratory birds are doing just what you’re doing: flying to Florida in search of warmer climes. Drive the Southern Everglades Hwy south until you run out of continent at Flamingo , a great place for spotting manatees.

South Padre Island, Texas

Get to South Padre Island before spring break and you can enjoy  Texas ’ popular seaside resort town at its quietest. With multiple blinds, a viewing tower, and boardwalks through the dunes, the 50-acre South Padre Island Birding, Nature Center & Alligator Sanctuary  is an ideal spot for watching feathered friends who overwinter here, as well as alligators and sea turtles. Isla Blanca County Park ’s beach is the most popular, thanks to access to shops and restaurants – but you can be rewarded with a bit of tranquility by exploring the dunes of Edwin King Atwood County Park or the long stretches of sand of the North End .

Key West, Florida

At the furthest end of the Florida Keys , Key West  has a celebrated culture that attracts sun seekers from all over the USA. The 7-sq-mile oasis offers famed literary history, fresh seafood and plenty of hopping bars. Don’t pass up the chance to set sail during sunset, visit the Ernest Hemingway House and marvel at the many colors at the Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory .

A woman rides a bicycle down a palm-lined street in Palm Springs, California, USA

Palm Springs, California

Palm Springs has its own type of cool going on year-round – but it’s rarely the type that registers on the thermometer. Winter nights can have a bit of the dry cold of the desert, yet the average high temperature never dips below 70°F. Palm Springs as a winter oasis is hardly a well-kept secret, and though it’s high season around the Coachella Valley, the variety of old-school motor court motels and mid-century-modern rentals for private pool parties means there are always accommodations options. For those craving a bit more activity than poolside lounging, breathtaking  Joshua Tree National Park and the oddball charm of the Salton Sea (with sights like the International Banana Museum ) are less than an hour away.

St John, US Virgin Islands

Looking for warm weather and the feeling that you’re a long, long way from home? St John  in the US Virgin Islands  might fit the bill. Virgin Islands National Park covers two-thirds of the island, preserving many miles of shoreline as well as underwater reef habitats. Traveling with kids? Try Maho Bay , known for its shallow, calm waters popular among snorkelers and green sea turtles.

Kenneth Terry and his jazz band perform in Jackson Square, in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

New Orleans, Louisiana

Winter in New Orleans isn’t exactly hot and sunny – January and February average in the mid-60s – but it’s certainly a welcome change from anywhere snowbound, and the crowds are at their lowest just before Mardi Gras swings into town. But since this New Orleans, there’s always a party going on, even in winter.

Bonfires are lit along the levees every Christmas Eve, a tradition that is supposed to help guide the arrival of Papa Noël, the Cajun Santa Claus. The annual Tet Fest thrown by the Mary Queen of Vietnam Church to celebrate the Vietnamese New Year (in late January or early February) is an important day for New Orleans’ large Vietnamese population, and the festive fair is full of delicious eats for all comers. The mild days of winter also make for pleasant exploring of the backstreets on one of the Crescent City’s many bike tours.

Kihei, Maui

The Hawaiian Islands do get more rain in winter, and things do get a bit cooler, it’s true. But let’s be real: the “cooler” winter in Kihei  means an average high of 81°F instead of 87°F, with 276 days of sun a year. So a parka won’t be necessary. There are a few simple tips for visiting  Maui  in winter. Stick to the south and west coasts to maximize your chances of sunny days. Avoid stronger surf by heading to gentler beaches, like Kalepolepo Beach Park for kids or Ulua Beach for top-notch snorkeling. Skip the holiday crowds and seek out a deal in early winter, before spring break. Then sit back, and soak in the sun.

Coastal Georgia

Sun-seekers heading to Georgia  could do just fine by stopping in sensational  Savannah and never leaving. But head just a little further out to the coast and you’ll find a world of barrier islands and twisting waterways to explore. Tybee Island and its popular beaches are just a half-hour drive away – the start of a string of subtropical islands that hug the coast of the Peach State. All feature mild winter weather, and each has its own personality.

Sapelo Island is home to a small village of Geechee, descendants of Africans who were enslaved on the plantations on the island until the 19th century. Nature lovers can book wildlife tours of Sapelo’s estuaries through the Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve Visitors Center . Historic, multicultural Brunswick serves as the gateway to Georgia’s Golden Isles, including resorty St Simons, and Jekyll Island, historically a playground for the wealthiest American families.

Where is hot in December? Our top 13 destinations

By Sarah James

Where is hot in December 13 top places to visit in December

As the cold takes firm hold of Europe , sun seeking generally requires a longer flight. True, there are spots closer to home with the good grace to linger around 20°C, but winter provides an excellent excuse for a far-flung getaway, when a powerful and prolonged dose of vitamin D is practically prescribed. Hot cities in Africa and Australia will come alive this month, as their summers finally arrive, while tropical islands and unsung corners of the world will hit their peak. See below for our edit of where is hot in December. For more travel inspiration, see our guide to the best winter sun destinations and the best holiday destinations in December .

Average December temperature : 26°C

The seven hour-flight from London to Dubai can just about be classed as medium-haul, while the time difference between the two is a jet-lag-free four hours – but this desert city in the Middle East feels worlds away from chilly England in December. Sure, there’s the glitzy side of Dubai – its mega-malls and skyscraping hotels are decked out in festive lights and ginormous trees for the season – but there’s a more laidback side to the city, too. Life’n One is a hidden yoga retreat for those hoping to end the year on a healthy note, while cultural hub Alserkal Avenue is a great place to escape the heat in arthouse cinemas and indie galleries.

Where to stay: Forget the glitz and glam, this cool new un-Dubai hotel is 25hours Hotel One Central , a hub for creatives, digital nomads, and those in the know. If you're here to venture to the pool and nothing more, Anantara World Islands Dubai Resort is a great option, especially for families. For a stay that’s unlike anything else in Dubai, book a room at the secluded five-room hotel and spa Al Faya Lodge an hour east of the city. See our edit of the best hotels in Dubai for more.

Lanzarote, Canary Islands

Average December temperature : 21°C

We called it ‘the surprisingly cool Canary island ’, but we weren’t talking about the weather. The fact that Lanzarote resides off Africa’s west coast means that even in December it’s still fairly sane to take a dip. Avoid the package hordes and head to fine, white-sand Papagayo Beach on the southern tip of the island, or try world-class surfing in north-west Famara. In fact, more surprises lie in store the further you stray from the tourist hotels. There’s the Jardín de Cactus in Guatiza, a surreal succulent amphitheatre; or starkly alluring Timanfaya National Park, a volcanic wilderness that starred in 1966 film One Million Years BC. And don’t forget Finca Malvasia , a seductive ranch-like retreat in the central wine region, owned by a pair of designers who swapped London for island life. After wintering in Lanzarote, you might just join them.

Where to stay: La Cabaña , a slick and earthy villa with a quote-mark-shaped swimming pool and views down to Puerto Calero. For more, check out our list of the best villas in Lanzarote .

Bali, Indonesia

Average December temperature : 27°C

It’s one of South-east Asia ’s winter-sun kingpins for good reason – tropical Bali ’s lush rainforest and white-sand beaches tick all the boxes when it comes to a warm-weather escape. Once-scrappy beach town Canggu draws Indonesia 's thriving digital-nomad crowd, along with blissed-out surfers, while artists’ village Ubud is a hub for those seeking a more spiritual getaway.

Where to stay: Teetering on a high clifftop overlooking the Indian Ocean on Bali’s southern coast, Six Senses Uluwatu is a wellness retreat that gets it just right. In Canggu, we like The Slow , a 12-room bolthole with an achingly cool cocktail of art, music and interior design. Riverside jungle hideout Capella Ubud feels like an African tented camp from the 19th century and makes an ideal base that avoids any desert-island clichés. If you're travelling in a group, Bali has some incredible villas and Airbnbs, like Laputa Villa which sleeps four and is widely known as "The Bamboo Castle in the Sky." For more, see our pick of the best Bali hotels .

Marrakech, Morocco

Average December temperature : 20°C

When winter is in full flow, don’t underestimate the power of a three-and-a-half-hour flight to another world. Yes, Marrakech is hectic, but a recent influx of design hotels – most of them reimagining glorious, red-brick riads – means there’s always somewhere more sedate to escape to. Alternatively, take up residence in a palace: La Mamounia , a grande dame of landscaped gardens, fountains, opulent tiles and velvets, is a card-carrying member of our best hotels in the world Gold List . Or book a stay at Royal Mansour , the city's most lavish hotel, which proves you needn’t plunge into the medina madness outside to get the best of Marrakech.

Where to stay: As we mentioned above there are no shortage of hotels in Marrakech . For a traditional riad stay, Riad Goloboy is a feast for the eyes (and Instagram) with kaleidoscopic walls and a gallery-worthy art collection.

Average December temperature : 24°C

The city’s year-round warm weather comes into its own in December, when the beach parties continue while other sun spots – we’re looking at you, California – pull on a sweater. For a calmer vibe, try the less-developed northern end of Miami Beach. It’s here that chef Thomas Keller serves elegant classics (oysters, steak tartare, lobster thermidor) at the landmark The Surf Club, among potted palms and white-coated waiters who evoke the spot’s history as the go-to of the 1950s jet set. Better yet, the recently extended, hacienda-style Four Seasons is here (Elizabeth Taylor and Wallis Simpson count among former guests). Refined might not be the word typically associated with Miami, but let this breath of fresh air change your mind.

Where to stay: Miami Beach Edition sits inside the skeleton of the Seville, one of the giant 1950s hotels, with nods to the past, a connection to the city's heritage and a bar with uninterrupted ocean views.

Bahamas, Caribbean

It’s peak season in the Bahamas , and while that will certainly keep the beaches busy, it also means perfect weather. Our tip: strike out for Harbour Island, a three-mile-long, mile-and-a-half-wide sliver of sensational, pink-sand stretches, where there are always enough sunbeds to go around. Make camp at its smartest hotel, Bahama House , a chic cottage with retro Palm Beach vibes, a sunken tiki bar and just 11 rooms. It’s part of Eleven Experience, an experiential-travel specialist, you can also take advantage of custom adventures such as diving in secret grottoes or swimming with swines on Pig Beach.

Where to stay: Pelican Bay Hotel . Inside, waterside rooms combine Caribbean cheerfulness with classic European style. Outside, white-sand beaches, lush boulevards and beautiful seascapes.

Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town is always a good idea, but particularly in December, when the fledgling South African summer sets beaches and vineyards aglow. The mere sight of beautiful crowds bronzing against its theatrical, cragged mountain backdrop will banish the winter blues in one blow. And just when you thought the Mother City’s raw good looks, smart art and design scenes and world-class food couldn’t get more appealing, it only goes and adds a pair of super-hot hotels, too.

Where to stay: The Silo , which is ingeniously set inside a former grain elevator house at the top of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa on the Victoria and Albert Waterfront. Also on our Gold List, Ellerman House is an imposing Edwardian mansion with smashing views of the Atlantic and one of the country’s finest private-art collections.

Auckland, New Zealand

Average December temperature : 22°C

Just like that low-and-slow New Zealand drawl, Auckland is a big, beautiful city that’s seldom in a hurry. Perhaps that’s what happens when there’s nature everywhere – rainforest-covered hills here; the glittering Hauraki Gulf there. And the notion that the affable country is somehow behind the times is rebuffed by the likes of the Britomart complex, a series of waterfront heritage buildings turned boutiques and restaurants, and Iko Iko, a fabulous concept store with fans such as Emilia Wickstead. Add in a ferry trip to nearby Waiheke Island’s sandy beaches and vineyard wine tastings and be totally converted to the Kiwi lifestyle.

Where to stay: Hilton Auckland is über-trendy retro futurism in a gleaming wharf shed redeveloped to resemble a cruise-liner.

Merida, Yucatan Peninsula

Average December temperature : 31°C

Tulum , Cancún and Playa del Carmen are the seaside giants of the Yucatán in south-east Mexico , but head instead for the state capital of Mérida for the best of everything: Mayan ruins, a charming colonial town, dense jungle and – if you don’t mind a short drive – beaches, too. Best of all, there’s Chablé just outside the city, an astonishingly lush estate with a spa and private cenote, a restaurant led by renowned chef Jorge Vallejo, a tequila ‘library’, a sweat lodge and a local shaman. Plus it has 40 splashy, limestone-and-glass casitas, each one with its own terrace and pool.

Where to stay: Hacienda Xcanatun for marble mosaic and coral stone floors on the verandahs, exteriors are daubed in terracotta and cream, and rough-hewn rustic tables and hammocks hung between trees that give this 18th-century Italianate estate a lived-in feel.

Koh Samui, Thailand

Long the Shangri-La of feverish backpacker dreams, Koh Samui has grown up. Yes, its raison d’être remains pure pleasure – in the shade of three million coconut palms, and on its bone-white beaches – but the packaging is more Four Seasons, less ratty bungalow. Wellness has well and truly arrived here, with yoga studios, health retreats and even monk-led mentoring for those looking to make a real change. If, however, you just want a proper, idyllic tropical break, Panacea takes the cake. The former home of one of the world’s top hedge-fund managers, this sprawling hilltop estate features five enormous residences, 82ft swimming pools, a cinema, a nightclub – and even a Muay Thai boxing ring (tattooed instructor included).

Where to stay: Set high on a hill, Panacea has a mix of four-, five- or six-bedroom villas filled with tropical hardwoods, silk fabrics and petrified wood that’s over a million years old, plus there's a kids’ room, a private cinema, gambling den and nightclub. At COMO Point Yamu a 100-metre long white-tiled swimming pool shoots out towards the Andaman Sea. Tip-top service, zingy cuisine and a wondrous spa has made this Thai hotel a favourite with LGBTQ+ Thais and travellers.

No doubt, Havana is spectacular. But leaving Cuba ’s main drawcard to explore its steamy eastern mountains will bring you closer to a country that, in its isolation from modernity, has much to teach. In Baracoa, the mystical hangs like a heavy mist. The city, surrounded by the Cuchillas del Toa mountain range, is a world unto itself: streets infused with music, sleepy beaches and rivers and canyons where – yes, even here – you’ll stumble upon the odd thatched bar. At the very south of the island, Santiago de Cuba, with its palatial Spanish buildings by the sea, is set to be the next It destination, but for now remains thrillingly tourist-free.

Where to stay: Casa de Miriam y Sinai is a fantastic first-floor flat that is an oasis of calm and space, with three spacious rooms, one with a street-side balcony, are spotless and have top-drawer bathrooms.

Melbourne, Australia

Melbourne ’s erratic climate ensures it’ll never hold the beachy appeal of Sydney . But December’s summer temperatures are ideal for exploring the city’s beloved laneways: narrow passages packed with street art , galleries, restaurants and bars. It’s here that trends are set rather than followed; where a cup of coffee has both a caffeine kick and global acclaim. And in Australia ’s always dynamic second city, there’s never a shortage of new and miraculous places to explore. Currently it’s Di Stasio Città, Spring Street’s Brutalist Italian restaurant, where guests eat fabulous crab capellini in a concrete-bunker-like setting as video installations play across the walls.

Where to stay: Lindenderry at Red Hill , a silver-birch-lined drive leading to a white rural hideout, with comforting, pared-back style and a restaurant that uses the with best local produce.

Volcan Arenal dominates the landscape during sunset as seen from the Monteverde area Costa Rica.

Average December temperature : 30°C

There's a lot to love about Costa Rica. The awe-inspiring nature – two coastlines, Caribbean and Pacific, which have not only distinct landscapes but distinct vibes; rainforests; volcanoes; powerful waterfalls that crash into rivers. You can surf, raft or relax in natural hot springs, spot sloths, monkeys and thousands of species of birdlife. All of this, plus Costa Rica is consistently named one of the happiest countries in the world, as well as having a higher-than-average life expectancy. December to April are the best times to visit – you can expect dry, sunny days, perfect for exploring on your own terms.

Where to stay: Aguas Claras in Puerto Viejo, on the Caribbean coast has six cabanas and a handful of restaurants loved by locals. See our edit of the best Costa Rica hotels for more ideas.

March is one of the best times to vacation. The March equinox, which occurs around March 20, marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and the beginning of fall in the Southern Hemisphere. For this reason, March tends to be a mild time of year, warmer than the winter months and cooler than the summer months.

March also sees significant celebrations that center on rebirth and growth, like Carnivale, Holi, and Easter. Additionally, flight and accommodation costs tend to be lower between the peak winter season and the summer high season. And since it’s a quarter of the way into the year, March is the perfect time for some much-needed rest and relaxation.

Here are 14 wonderfully warm places to visit in March.

The holiday may draw crowds, but there are still fewer people than there are during the summer months.

In between the Celtic festivities, enjoy the medieval architecture, cobblestone streets, and the rich history of Dublin . Wander through the streets during the day and visit Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, the National Gallery of Ireland, and Trinity College. In the evening, the temperatures drop, but that’s nothing a silky Guinness stout can’t fix!

View from above of egypt_dahab_blue_hole

  • Average September temperature: 81°F
  • Average hours of daily sun: 12 hours
  • Suitable for: Solo Travel, Group Travel, Backpacking

On the southeast coast of the Sinai Peninsula, Dahab is a magnet for divers . Just 50 miles north of tourist hub Sharm el-Sheikh , this laid-back town feels like a different world, and October is a magic time to visit .

A lovely mix of Bedouin culture and hippy charm , the town is unpretentious and spectacular all in one. To the west in the Sinai Desert lies Mount Sinai , of Biblical fame, and St Catherine’s monastery, among the oldest in the world. Join one of the spectacular sunrise tours for a truly heavenly experience.

It’s the crystal blue waters and aquatic wildlife in the Gulf of Aqaba to Dahab’s east that draw the crowds. In particular the famed and feared Dahab Blue Hole – a natural sinkhole only a few feet offshore that drops 390 feet into the inky black depths.

Like catnip to snorkelers, scuba and free divers, it’s lined with gorgeous coral reefs . Beware though, the memorial plaques at the cliff’s point of entry speak to its dangers and the lives it’s claimed.

2. Botswana

  • Average September temperature: 79°F
  • Average hours of daily sun: 13 hours
  • Suitable for: Couples Travel, Family Travel, Luxury Travel

Well into its dry season, Botswana is always hot in October . For visitors heading out on safari into one of its national parks, it’s the tail end of peak season for wildlife watching .

That’s because the hot weather brings with it a lack of rain that focuses the wildlife on smaller areas around watering holes. The high and reliable waters of the Okavango Delta and Chobe River offer unparalleled sightings of lions and elephants, more abundant here than anywhere else in Africa.

On the practical side, dry season means easy-to-navigate safari routes and best of all, no mosquitoes . And while it’s peak season, prices slowly drop throughout the month so if you’re willing to leave it later, family safaris become much more affordable . For the best launch point, skip the capital Gaborone and fly into Maun.

3. San Blas Islands, Panama

Beach view with boat at one of San Blas Islands, Panama.

  • Average September temperature: 80°F
  • Suitable for: Off the Grid, Backpacking

On the edge of the Caribbean Sea under warm blue skies, you’ll find the best beaches in October on Panama’s San Blas archipelago . Mercifully under the tourist radar, this cluster of 378 mostly uninhabited islands is ruled and safeguarded by the indigenous Kuna (or Guna) people.

The Kuna’s stringent protection of their culture and lands means they remain utterly pristine , untarnished by mass tourism. Island hopping, beach lazing and reef swimming make up the daily routine. At night, bioluminescence makes the sea glow .

Fly into El Porvenir from Panama City and you’ll find lots of tours operating trips to islands like Franklin, Nadi, Kikirdub and Asuelo. There are luxury hotels in the main hubs, but nature is the draw here so instead try a campsite or one of the lovely Kuna-made eco-friendly lodges .

4. Siargao, Philippines

  • Average September temperature: 82°F
  • Suitable for: Solo Travel, Backpacking, Off the Grid

Speaking of gorgeous islands , Siargao is another hot and cheap October destination . The surfing capital of the Philippines enjoys month-round high temperatures and has the island setting to make the most of it.

World-class surf breaks like Cloud 9 are just part of its aquatic appeal. Try caving in the Tayangban Cave pools where you can float by torchlight while bats flit around you. The bath-warm, mountain-rimmed waters of Sugba Lagoon are a snorkeler’s dream . Take a boat tour to Sohoton Cove National Park to swim with the unique stingless jellyfish in the sanctuary at Buca’s Grand Lagoon.

You’ll need to take a domestic flight from Manila or Cebu to the touristy area of General Luna as a starting point . Packed with bars, restaurants and hotels, don’t stay long. Instead, go to Pacifico Beach or Del Carmen , all but empty apart from simple eco accommodation and the promise of an unblemished haven .

5. Chiang Rai, Thailand

LGBTQ couple holding hands walking in Thailand_white_temple_wat_rong_khun

  • Average September temperature: 77°F
  • Suitable for: Solo Travel, Couples Travel, Backpacking, Off the Grid

Thailand’s quieter, greener north dodges much of the fall rain that soaks the south, making it one of the best warm places to visit in October. Lovely Chiang Mai with its heady mix of modern and ancient is most people’s stopping point.

A few hours to the north, however, Chiang Rai offers a more relaxed, slower-paced slice of traditional Thai life . Rich in Lanna culture, there are many temples to explore, none more exotic and strange than Wat Rong Khun , the White Temple.

Chiang Rai is also a launch point to the Golden Triangle , the viewpoint over the Mekong where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar (Burma) meet. Don’t miss Mae Sai market where you can pick up a border pass and cross into Tachileik in Myanmar for some shopping.

6. Pokhara, Nepal

  • Average September temperature: 67°F
  • Suitable for: Solo Travel, Group Travel, Off the Grid

Nepal probably doesn’t leap to mind as a destination that’s hot in October . It’s all relative though. With temperatures regularly climbing into the mid-70s, long sunny days , little rain and clear skies , it’s the ideal time to take on the Annapurna Circuit .

Accessible via domestic flight from Kathmandu , Pokhara is the gateway to the Circuit, one of the world’s great treks. Majestically set on Phewa Lake with Himalayan peaks clawing the distant horizon, it’s a city rich in climbing tradition . Head south for inspiration to the International Mountain Museum , which chronicles the history of mountaineering, documenting its most extraordinary exploits.

The World Peace Pagoda and mystical Davis Falls make for spectacular warm-up hikes. For the big trek, you should book with a dedicated, local guide operator who can help set your itinerary. Depending on fitness, anything from eight to 21 days will take you into some of the wildest, most extraordinary landscapes on the planet.

7. Palm Beach, USA

usa_florida_palm-beach

  • Average September temperature: 78°F
  • Suitable for: Couples Travel, Luxury

Palm Beach may be the billionaire’s playground , but you don’t need nine zeros in your bank account to enjoy its glitz and glamor. In fact, peeling back its impossibly rich and seemingly impenetrable facade is half the fun of visiting .

With October temperatures regularly into the 80s and sun-kissed blue skies, Golden Beach is your first port of call. Walk the A1A to see some of the most opulent houses in America and chance your arm with a stroll on the private beach . Hit up Worth Avenue for some (most likely window) shopping.

Best of all, book yourself a spot in one of Palm Beach’s glitziest resorts . You don’t need to be a guest at The Breakers to snag a seat at its oceanfront Seafood Bar . Or at celeb favorite The Colony to book a poolside table at Swifty’s . Just remember: dress to impress!

8. Las Vegas, USA

Drone view of couple standing by giant sculptures in Las vegas' Nevada desert

  • Average September temperature: 70°F
  • Suitable for: Couples Travel, Luxury Travel

There’s more to Las Vegas than the Strip (though it’s always worth spending a night indulging in its attractions.) The Mojave Desert is hot in October, so skip the glow of the Strip’s neon lights and head west .

Along the way stop off in Chinatown . Here you can feast on Asian cuisine and rub shoulders with the big resort chefs on downtime. Then visit European-styled Tivoli Village where you can shop til you drop in Boca Park or golf at the TPC .

Further west, escape the city at the Red Rock National Conservation Area with 30 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails. Book into the Red Rock Resort & Spa and ask for a room with a Red Rock view , a perfect tonic to Sin City behind you.

9. Catania, Sicily

Aerial view of Catania, Sicily at dusk, italy

  • Suitable for: Family Travel, Couples Travel, Luxury

The port city of Catania sits on Sicily’s east coast in the foothills of the still-active volcano, Mount Etna . With the hot heat of summer over, October is warm and sunny enough to make the most of this ancient city’s many marvels.

Start with the classics. In the central Piazza del Duomo you’ll find the opulent Basilica Cattedrale di Sant’Agata and the entirely odd Fontana dell’Elefante , a smiling lava-stone elephant topped by an Egyptian obelisk.

Don’t miss nearby La Pescheria , the raucous daily fish market surrounded by fantastic restaurants that’s a staple of Catania life and an apt introduction to its grittier side. Spend an entire day strolling Via Etnea, the two-mile central shopping street that reaches all the way to the foothills of Mount Etna. Lined with bars, and boutiques, it throbs with shoppers and partygoers on weekends and delivers jaw-dropping views of the volcano it was named for.

10. Canary Islands, Spain

View of Candelaria town of Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

  • Average September temperature: 74°F
  • Suitable for: Family Travel, Couples Travel, Solo Travel

The Canary Islands have long been a staple getaway for somewhere hot in October in Europe . Just off the coast of the Western Sahara, they’re far enough south to feel like Africa and deliver sunny weather.

Tenerife is the big draw with the beautiful beaches and buzzing bars of Adeje . Not far is Gran Canaria , famous for its black sand beaches and infamous for its hordes of cruise ship tourists. Better to get a real taste of Gran Canaria on La Gomera , the smallest Canary Island accessible only by a 20-minute ferry from Tenerife.

Here you’ll find no cruise ships , no flashy resorts, and far fewer people. Instead, winding hiking paths head deep into jungles and wind high up precipitous cliffs before tumbling to deserted beaches. Book a night or two in the capital San Sebastian and let the magic and pace of the island wash over you .

Where to go in 2024, according to Travel + Leisure editors — for cultural immersion and major travel bragging rights.

Since 1971, Travel + Leisure editors have followed one mission: to inform, inspire, and guide travelers to have deeper, more meaningful experiences. T+L's editors have traveled to countries all over the world, having flown, sailed, road tripped, and taken the train countless miles. They've visited small towns and big cities, hidden gems and popular destinations, beaches and mountains, and everything in between. With a breadth of knowledge about destinations around the globe, air travel, cruises, hotels, food and drinks, outdoor adventure, and more, they are able to take their real-world experience and provide readers with tried-and-tested trip ideas, in-depth intel, and inspiration at every point of a journey.

Well, you knew it was coming. This year, more than 20 Travel + Leisure staffers weighed in to create this hand-picked list of the places that thoughtful, curious travelers should consider in 2024.

These are the destinations that have captured our imaginations, the spots where T+L editors want to spend their own time in the year ahead. Among the picks are Canada's Métis Crossing, which headlined our October 2023 issue ; Istanbul, for which our editor in chief makes a compelling case ; and Paris, because there's a little thing called Les Jeux Olympiques coming up.

Other, lesser-known places are on the rise. Consider the small towns of Sonoma County, where new businesses are doing big things ; a remote corner of Australia, where expedition ships are the way in; a Himalayan hideaway where visitors are left breathless and not just because of the altitude.

We hope this list inspires you to see the world in a new way in the coming year. We'll see you out there.

For cultural immersion, ålborg, denmark.

Alexander Farnsworth/Getty Images

It rates as Denmark’s fourth-largest city, with around 120,000 residents, but out-of-the-way Ålborg might seem an unlikely international-travel hub. That's not stopping Scandinavian Airlines, which is betting on the compact, alluring city with newly launched flights from Newark Liberty International, which will run three times a week from April through October. The cobbled streets of Ålborg’s old town are lined with half-timbered houses and pastel exteriors; the attractively refurbished waterfront — where you’ll find the newly renovated Pier 5 Hotel — is another walkable district. The city’s rich cultural scene includes a modern art museum , an architecture center, and, a short drive away, Regan Vest , a Cold War museum that opened in a former bunker in February 2023. Indeed, Ålborg is a gateway to the wider region of North Jutland, with its dramatic coastline around the town of Skagen, long a draw to Danish artists; windswept dunes of Thy National Park ; and 2,000-year-old Viking ring fortresses which have, at long last, been collectively designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site . — Peter Terzian

Cartagena, Colombia

Sofia Jaramillo

A perennially hot destination, Colombia is coming into its own as a luxury escape these days, thanks to a ton of excitement in and around Cartagena, on the country’s Caribbean coast. In 2023, the city welcomed Casa Pestagua , a 16-room boutique hotel within a restored 17th-century building, in the historic center. Now, the same owners are working to open bungalows on Isla Barú, a popular day-trip spot, before the end of 2023. Sustainability minded travelers can find their fit at Blue Apple Beach , an eco-hotel on Tierra Bomba Island, just off the coast, that’s B Corp certified and generates half its power from solar, as T+L recently reported . In 2024, Disney's “Encanto”-themed tour of Colombia will debut, shining more light on Cartagena, one of the many stops on the itinerary. And there’s even more growth in the pipeline: Delta Air Lines is adding new nonstop flights to Cartagena from Atlanta in December 2023, a Four Seasons hotel is on the horizon, and the nation is investing in an airport expansion that will serve an ever-increasing number of visitors. — Susmita Baral

Eastern & Oriental Express, a Belmond Train

Courtesy of Belmond

After a four-year pause, this luxury train that crisscrosses Southeast Asia will ride again in February. Several new itineraries will be available on the revamped Express, which has 15 cherry wood–clad cabins and vibrant Malay-inspired decor. The Essence of Malaysia journey, for example, takes travelers from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, with side trips to Langkawi, for snorkeling in Pulau Payar Marine Park, and Penang, among the greatest food cities on the planet. Alternatively, a Wild Malaysia option includes a stop at Taman Negara National Park, where visitors might spot a Sumatran rhino or tiger. “These ‘slow travel’ journeys give our guests the opportunity to rest their mind, rekindle, and reconnect,” said Dan Ruff, the CEO of Belmond. Much like a storied ocean liner, the majestic Eastern & Oriental Express is a destination unto itself, with a sultry piano bar car; an open-air lounge with wicker furniture where passengers can watch the Malaysian jungle rush by; and two restaurant carriages serving Peranakan food. You may not have had "eating laksa on a luxury train" on your 2024 bingo card, but you really should. — Maya Kachroo-Levine

For one month between June and July, soccer — or should we say fußball — will take over Germany, as the nation hosts the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship. Held every four years, the tournament for men’s national teams will take place in 10 cities across Germany, including Berlin, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, and Munich. “This will be an incredible, not-to-be-missed moment,” said Sofia Markovich , a travel advisor on T+L's A-List who specializes in Austria and Germany. “I expect interest to go through the roof as this is a major sports event — second only to the World Cup.” Even casual fans should find the atmosphere thrilling, Markovich said, particularly those who happen to pass through game-day destinations while cruising the country’s rivers . One host city deserves a particular spotlight thanks to the new Rosewood Munich , which opened in October. Set across two buildings (one, formerly the headquarters of the State Bank of Bavaria, the other, a Baroque residence), the 132-key property is steps from the charms of Old Town, including the leafy Maximiliansplatz, and walkable to one of Europe’s most surprising surf spots: the rapids of the Isar River . — Liz Cantrell

Métis Crossing, Alberta

Amber Bracken

“This is not a place where you look at old things behind glass,” said Juanita Marois, the CEO of Métis Crossing, one of Canada’s most compelling Indigenous tourism projects. “This is an immersive destination where you experience the culture and the warmth of the Métis people through our land, water, skies, buildings, food, and programs.” The 688-acre retreat, which writer Carleigh Baker detailed in T+L’s October 2023 issue , is today home to a 40-room lodge, a cultural center, and campgrounds. Depending on the season, visitors can learn about traditional crafts, enjoy festivals held on-site, or head out for bird-watching, canoeing, or snowshoeing. A new addition to Métis Crossing is a collection of eight Sky Watching Domes , luxe stand-alone suites with panoramic skylight windows. From the Domes, Marois explained, “guests can listen to Indigenous stories of the night skies, see the stars, and view the aurora borealis." — Jalyn Robinson

Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park, Georgia

Getty Images

It’s not every day the U.S. gets a new national park, but 2024 could see this central Georgia destination enter the fold. Presently managed as a national historical park, Ocmulgee is home to large earthen mounds, including temple complexes, created by numerous Native American peoples over thousands of years. Should Congress approve the new designation in 2024, Ocmulgee will become the first national park in the state and the first in the U.S. to be co-managed by a nation whose ancestors were removed from the area: the Muscogee (Creek) were forcibly relocated from central Georgia as a result of the Indian Removal Act of 1830. “We now have an opportunity to come back and not feel like we are visiting, but to feel like we are coming home,” said Tracie Revis, a member of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation and the director of advocacy for the Ocmulgee National Park & Preserve Initiative, a community group. The gateway to the park is the city of Macon, where the Muscogee (Creek) Nation flag flies alongside the Stars and Stripes, and the street signs are being replaced with ones written in both Muscogee and English. A particularly opportune time to visit will be in September, for the town’s annual Indigenous film festival . — Liz Cantrell

Rajasthan, India

Aparna Jayakumar

India’s northwestern state of Rajasthan, with its wealth of iconic hotels and cultural attractions, is one of the best-known among U.S. travelers. It also promises new delights in the coming year, with several new addresses in Jaipur worth planning a trip around. There's Villa Palladio , a delightful nine-room hotel on the outskirts of town created by the Swiss-Dutch team behind Bar Palladio , an Instagram favorite in the city center. The Johri is a beautifully designed five-room property with a chic cocktail bar and organic vegetarian restaurant on the ground level, tucked away in a heritage townhouse in Jaipur's Old Town. Meanwhile, the Anantara hospitality group is set to launch its first-ever property in India next year. The 150-room, new-build Anantara Jaipur Hotel is designed with India's ballooning market for destination weddings in mind: it will have event facilities that can accommodate as many as 2,500 guests. In the meantime, the city and wider region are becoming more accessible than ever, thanks to a new six-lane expressway that connects Jaipur to New Delhi, a major hub for international flights. — Flora Stubbs

Shinta Mani Mustang, Nepal

Courtesy of Shinta Mani Mustang

A once-forbidden kingdom is now home to some truly palatial digs. Nepal’s Mustang district, which opened to outsiders in 1992 , is a place to watch in 2024 thanks to this stunning, 29-suite hotel, which welcomed its first guests in August. Shinta Mani Mustang, the latest property from the Bensley Collection, delivers the luxurious wellness experiences and thoughtful design that devotees of the brand have come to expect. Guests can spend their days trekking the surrounding Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges, searching for rare wildlife like the Pallas’s cat and Tibetan wolf, horseback riding, and visiting local villages. “What caught my attention was that the outstanding aesthetics and architecture are in sync with sustainable and responsible tourism,” said Carole Cambata, an advisor on T+L's A-List and expert in Himalayan travel. “They sourced local building materials and used Indigenous construction methods.” The noteworthy opening comes at a time of positive change: in April, the Nepal Mountaineering Academy and the Nepal Tourism Board partnered on a program to educate the country’s first-ever class of LGBTQ+ trekking guides, CNN reported , in an effort to make Nepal’s hiking and climbing industries more inclusive. “Nepal is one of Asia’s most progressive countries for LGBTQ+ people due to laws that forbid gender identity discrimination,” said John Clifford , another A-List advisor. “Visitors to the country can even select ‘other’ as an option for gender identification on their visas.” — Samantha Falewée

Tallinn, Estonia

Nina Ruggiero/Travel + Leisure

This country’s literacy and secondary education rates consistently rank near the top in Europe, especially among women, so it should come as no surprise that Tartu, the university city to the southeast of Tallinn, has been designated Europe’s Capital of Culture for 2024 . Still, for first-timers to the Baltics, there’s no better place to get schooled than the country’s capital city, Tallinn: its walled Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved examples of Medieval architecture in the world. PoCo Art Museum , which opened in May with pop art by Andy Warhol, Banksy, David Hockney, and Jeff Koons, is now one of nearly 50 art institutions in the city, joining Fotografiska (world-renowned photography), Kumu Art Museum (contemporary Estonian art), and Kadriorg Art Museum (early European and Russian art). After soaking in the culture, head for the Noblessner district , an industrial shipyard area turned seafront hot spot that’s now bursting with stylish cafes, shops, and Estonia’s first restaurant with two Michelin stars, 180° by Matthias Diethe . (You might also try a “ smoke sauna ” at Scandi-chic Iglupark .) As for where to stay, the new Nunne Boutique Hotel has views over Old Town’s Towers Square . —  Nina Ruggiero

Warsaw, Poland

Christopher Larson/Travel + Leisure

The thriving contemporary art scene in Warsaw, which is home to art-circuit stalwarts like the Foksal Gallery Foundation and Raster Gallery , will get a big boost in 2024, when the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw finally moves into its own headquarters. Founded in 2005, the museum has burnished the city’s art reputation for two decades, with its holdings of both foreign and Polish work, despite operating out of temporary spaces. The new HQ will be part of a 22-acre arts district centered on the existing Palace of Culture and Science, a Stalinist skyscraper that towers over the city. The museum, along with a new 800-seat TR Warszaw Theater nearby, was designed by Thomas Phifer and Partners , the architecture firm behind other notable institutions, including the Glenstone Museum in Maryland and portions of New York’s Corning Museum of Glass . — Denny Lee

For the Food and Drinks

The austrian countryside.

Journey south of Vienna and you’ll find two of the regions that give the countryside of Austria its fairy-tale quality. Styria has rolling hills and hiking trails, with the medieval city of Graz at its heart. Mellow, rural Burgenland is home to Lake Neusiedl, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Both regions have a long, rich history of winemaking, and in recent years, have become the site of a burgeoning natural wine scene. Cult producers such as Winery Maria and Sepp Muster and Alice & Roland Tauss should be at the top of any visitor’s list, as should Burgenland’s beloved vintners Gut Oggau and Meinklang . Then, round out a visit to the country with a stay at Rosewood Schloss Fuschl , a meticulously restored 15th-century castle opening on the shores of a small lake near Salzburg in spring 2024. — Peter Terzian

Mérida, Mexico

Itzel Garrido/Travel + Leisure

The capital of Yucatán, this city has long been popular with Mexican travelers drawn to its Maya ruins, cerulean-blue cenotes, restored haciendas, and incredible food . But it has a growing acclaim among international visitors — especially LGBTQ+ travelers, who often describe Yucatán as very gay friendly . Mérida’s historic beauty and laid-back cantina culture might explain why LGBTQ+ retirees have embraced the city in recent years, buying homes and bringing their friends along. Those not ready to make a full-on move will find lots of designer hotels carved out of stately mansions, not to mention wonderful shopping and plenty of food tours, both in the city and in the surrounding countryside, which is punctuated by haciendas, many of which host pop-up events or even overnight guests. Plans for a sprawling new “ Yucatán Central Park ,” with a food market and amphitheater, remain hazy, as does an exact timeline for the arrival of the ballyhooed Maya Train , which is nearing completion and should make it easier to hop between Mérida and popular seaside spots such as Cancún and Tulum. — Denny Lee

Sonoma County, California

Gentl & Hyers

More than double the size of Napa, Sonoma might offer twice as much to do. It’s not just about the wine — though with the addition of a new American Viticultural Area (AVA) called West Sonoma Coast last year, Sonoma County now has 19 AVAs slinging chardonnay, pinot noir, and zinfandel at established wineries, such as Flowers and Scribe , and new ones, including Vérité Wines . There’s also a long coastline to explore, from Bodega Bay up to Sea Ranch, where the dreamy, cliff-top Sea Ranch Lodge is newly renovated . Inland, the opening of Dawn Ranch shines a spotlight on Guerneville , a crunchy town along the Russian River known for its LGBTQ+ scene and proximity to the Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. Tear yourself from the 22-acre haven, with tree house–like cabins, creekside glamping tents, and alfresco redwood tubs at the idyllic spa, to bike into town where the reimagined Piknik Market serves one of Oprah’s favorite biscuits . The changes coming to Sonoma County in 2024 are largely shaped by the area’s most famous chefs: in Healdsburg, California, Noma alum Stu Stalker debuted the plant-based restaurant Second Story, above Little Saint and down the street from Michelin three-starred SingleThread and chef Dustin Valette’s The Matheson . Restaurant powerhouse Charlie Palmer plans to launch his hotel brand, Appellation , in Healdsburg by the end of next year. — Maya Kachroo-Levine

For Big-city Thrills

Tessa Desjardins/Travel + Leisure

“It’s a classic Asian megacity: frenetic, neon-lit, and overwhelming to the senses,” said Jack Tydeman , a Southeast Asia specialist at Audley Travel and member of T+L's A-List. But change is coming to Bangkok, in the form of many megaprojects, including Dusit Central Park, which is slated to open in 2024, with the 259-room Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel and a multi-terraced roof park. Also coming soon will be King Rama IX Memorial Park, a park that honors the sustainability initiatives of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Meanwhile, Lumpini Park , Bangkok’s original public green space, is getting a massive refresh next year that will add a new food hall, a vegetable farm, and a sports club ahead of its centennial. Even while sprinting to finish these new developments, Bangkok is finding time to slow down and prioritize wellness. Luxury travel network Virtuoso recently named Thailand as just one of five “emerging self-care destinations” worldwide, noting that “travelers are seeking a more spiritual journey, turning to Thailand for more than the traditional Thai massage.” The forthcoming Aman Nai Lert Bangkok , slated for 2024, is sure to deliver, with 52 spacious suites overlooking Nai Lert Park and a multifloor wellness sanctuary. — Susmita Baral

The year ahead has the Land set to shine, thanks to national and international events, world-class cultural expansions, and the rebirth of historic hotels. It all starts in April, when the NCAA Women’s Final Four comes to the state-of-the-art Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse and a total solar eclipse sweeps over the city on April 8, 2024. Cleveland will see even more action when the Pan-American Masters Games crisscross the city July 12-21. And in November, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, which was held in Brooklyn in 2023, will return home. Meanwhile, many institutions are in the midst of revitalization. The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is nearing completion of its multiyear $150-million expansion, with updated exhibits and new public spaces in University Circle. Karamu House , the nation’s oldest Black producing theater, will debut a new restaurant, outdoor stage, and an additional venue in the Fairfax neighborhood. The city’s oldest hotel will reopen in 2024 after extensive renovations as a Marriott Autograph Collection called Hotel Cleveland. Also coming is the Fidelity Hotel, a new boutique property with a speakeasy that's slated to launch in a landmark building downtown. There’s development along the Cuyahoga River and Lake Erie, too, where paved hiking and biking trails are livening up a waterfront that has, for many decades, been underutilized. — Jennifer Salerno Yong

Fort Worth, Texas

Mariah Tyler

Offering classic Western experiences like bull riding, cattle drives, and stock shows, Fort Worth, Texas, is booming, bringing in $3 billion in tourism revenue last year alone. With all of the renewed interest in the city, luxury hotels are flocking to Cowtown’s Cultural District. The Crescent Hotel, Fort Worth opened in November, home to the first-ever wellness club by Canyon Ranch and a Mediterranean restaurant by Food Network chef Preston Paine. Bowie House, Auberge Resorts Collection , is slated to open its doors December 2023, with a tree-lined pool terrace, chic spa, and upscale chophouse called Bricks and Horses. Walking distance from both hotels is The National Cowgirl Museum , which will run a 2024 exhibit honoring the Mexican female horseback riding tradition of escaramuza charra . Looking ahead, the National Juneteenth Museum is scheduled to open in the city’s Historic Southside neighborhood in 2025. — Mariah Tyler

Turkey’s style capital is seeing a resurgence of life along the Bosphorus, thanks in part to the Galataport, the world’s first underground cruise ship terminal with a pedestrian promenade and the Renzo Piano–designed Istanbul Museum of Modern Art just above. Another neighborhood anchor is the 177-room Peninsula Hotel , spread out over four buildings, three of which date to the early 1900s. Highlights include a glittering pool facing the Hagia Sophia; a sprawling, subterranean spa; and Gallada, a rooftop restaurant from whiz kid chef Fatih Tutak, whose eponymous restaurant is Turkey’s first to earn two Michelin stars. The hotel staff wears posh uniforms courtesy of Arzu Kaprol, a designer who has a boutique in the nearby Paket Postanesi, a historic post office turned chic shopping mall. Also on the waterfront, in Beşiktaş, the lavish Çırağan Palace Kempinski has been reimagined by local interior designer Serdar Gülgün, with rooms that lean into Ottoman-era grandeur (think tulip-pattern motifs and mother-of-pearl furniture). Finally, don’t miss The Basilica Cistern, open again after a five-year closure, and now hosting contemporary art exhibits amid the ancient columns. — Jacqui Gifford

Kansas City, Missouri

Jonathan Tasler/Courtesy of Visit KC

World famous for barbecue and jazz, KC is now staking a claim as a global leader in sports and entertainment — and not just because of Taylor and Travis . In March, the Kansas City Current, of the National Women's Soccer League, will open the first-ever purpose-built stadium for women’s pro sports. “It will be a destination for sports lovers and will inspire generations of girls to follow their dreams,” said Katie Mabry van Dieren, CEO and curator of The Strawberry Swing , a brand that organizes events and pop-ups in the city, as well as Shop Local KC , a string of boutiques. The stadium’s construction has spurred other developments around the city, including the forthcoming Origen Hotel KC , a 118-room boutique property; the massive Berkley Beer Garden; and an extension of the free KC Streetcar that will serve the Berkley Riverfront area. Also coming soon is the country’s first entertainment district of its kind, the Rock Island Bridge , a reclaimed rail crossing over the Kansas River. “Visitors will be able to enjoy two levels of entertainment with food from two restaurants and three bars, plus a covered event space with a dance floor and open veranda seating overlooking the river and city,” a source told T+L of the High Line–inspired project that will connect Kansas City, Missouri, and Kansas City, Kansas. — Jalyn Robinson

Just when you think Sin City can’t get any bigger, louder, or glitzier, Las Vegas turns it up another notch. On the heels of blockbuster residencies from Adele , Katy Perry, and Lady Gaga, U2 kicked off their inaugural stint at the long-anticipated Sphere this fall. Filmmaker Darren Aronofsky’s immersive sci-fi production “Postcard from Earth” will also show off the new arena’s 16K LED display, beginning this fall and continuing through 2024. Formula 1 and Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive captured a growing American audience for the international racing circuit, and the Las Vegas Grand Prix will hit The Strip Nov. 16-18, 2023, and again Nov. 21-23, 2024. It won’t be the only megaevent on the sports calendar: Las Vegas will host Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11, 2024, at Allegiant Stadium, marking the first time the game will take place in Nevada. Still not enough? The 67-story Fontainebleau Las Vegas will open in December with 3,700 rooms and a ton of buzzy restaurants, including a Casa Dragones Tasting Room and a Chinese noodle den from the restaurateur behind Wagamama and Hakkasan. — Elizabeth Rhodes

Louisville, Kentucky

The Kentucky Derby will celebrate its 150th anniversary on May 4, 2024, as well as the debut of the redesigned Churchill Downs Paddock, which is coming off a multiyear, $200-million renovation. Those that can’t make race day can brush up on the event’s history and culture year-round at the Kentucky Derby Museum , which has interactive exhibits on subjects like Black horsemen’s contributions to racing . Continue on theme at Derby City Hotel, a Canopy by Hilton property, which will open in downtown Louisville this summer with 168 rooms plus a rooftop pool and bar, or opt for another new property, such as The Myriad Hotel, Common Bond Hotel Collection , or the trendy Hotel Genevieve by Bunkhouse Group. Also coming in 2024 is “Ali,” a musical about the Louisville icon, which opens at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts in the fall. There’s news on the spirits scene, too, including the launch of Bourbon and Belonging – Kentucky’s Queer Bourbon Week, a statewide celebration running Oct. 3-6, 2024, that will have events in Louisville and beyond. — Elizabeth Rhodes

Alessandra Amodio/Travel + Leisure

As close as you can get to Europe without the transatlantic flight, this island city of nearly 2 million is newly relevant in the year ahead, thanks to forward-thinking infrastructure that’s made it one of the greenest and most visitor-friendly spots in North America. The Réseau Express Métropolitain, or REM, is a new automated light rail system that Canada’s Globe and Mail calls “ Montreal’s biggest public transit project in more than half a century ,” with a growing number of stations coming online in the years ahead. (All of them are or will be “ universally accessible .”) The Grand Quay, the city-center pier that many cruise ships use, has a new attraction in the form of the Port of Montreal Tower , a blocky observation spire that echoes the look of the famed Habitat 67 nearby. Meanwhile, the city’s bike-sharing program, Bixi, which launched back in 2009, is still going strong and now offers an all-you-can-bike monthly pass for just $14 that makes using the system a no brainer; the city’s 560 miles of bike lanes help, too. The recently renovated Vogue Hotel Montreal Downtown, Curio Collection by Hilton , and the new-in-2023 Honeyrose Hotel, Montreal, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel , join the four-year-old Four Seasons in adding a touch of luxury that had, perhaps, been missing in the heart of the city. That said, Montreal has more than 24,000 hotel rooms — and plenty of Airbnbs — across the metro area, which will make it an ideal last-minute destination for eclipse watchers who want to be in the path of totality on April 8. — Paul Brady

When Paris hosts 329 distinct sporting events next summer, the whole city will be on display: the first-ever Olympic Games breakdancing competition will be at Place de la Concorde; beach volleyball courts will skirt the Eiffel Tower; and the opening ceremony’s Parade of Nations will sail down the Seine River. The host city of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games (July 26-August 11) and Paralympic Games (August 28-September 8) will welcome visitors with a flurry of new hotels and restaurants. Chateau des Fleurs is an extravagant new stay in the eighth arrondissement with 19th-century style and an haute Korean restaurant. Celebrated hotel designer Martin Brudnizki just unveiled two projects : the 50-room Grand Mazarin , in the Marais, and La Fantaisie in the ninth. And the hoteliers behind the Hôtel Dame Des Arts , which appeared on T+L’s 2023 It List , unveiled their train-themed Hôtel des Grand Voyageurs in Saint-Germain-des-Prés in October. The legacy establishments have new life, too: Hotel Plaza Athénée , named the best hotel in Paris by T+L readers, has a French restaurant, Jean Imbert au Plaza Athénée, which recently scored two Michelin stars, to say nothing of the property’s brand-new Dior Spa. And the sumptuous La Tour d’Argent restaurant just got a sensational facelift. Meanwhile, “numerous museums and institutions will host sports-related exhibitions, films, performances, workshops, and kids’ programming throughout the summer,” writer Lindsey Tramuta reported in T+L’s November 2023 issue. For those in need of a sports break, La Galerie Dior and Fragonard Musée du Parfum are two new additions to the scene worth checking out. — Maya Kachroo-Levine

For Moments on the Water

Coastal alaska.

Cruising is back in a big way, and Alaska's Inside Passage is leading the charge. In 2023, the state saw ships including Regent’s Seven Seas Explorer and Carnival’s Luminosa for the first time, while Royal Caribbean recently sent Brilliance of the Seas north for the first time in years. The new Klawock port, on Prince of Wales Island, is poised to welcome large ships in the 2024 season with food and retail outposts, exhibits detailing Indigenous culture and history, and nature trails. Skagway, a well-known port that’s home to Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park and the scenic White Pass and Yukon Route Railway, is getting a 550-foot floating pier, which will allow the port to host two megaships simultaneously beginning in the 2024 season. Lately, that season has been getting longer: most companies run trips May to September, but Norwegian Cruise Line had October sailings in 2023, which gave passengers a look at Alaskan life during a quieter season. Considering Alaska is projected to notch 1.65 million cruise travelers on around 700 voyages this year, opting for a shoulder season trip in 2024 might not be a bad idea. —  Nina Ruggiero

Coastal Norway

Sebastian Lamberg Torjusen/Courtesy of Salmon Eye

Long known for its cutting-edge design and architectural marvels like the Oslo Opera House, Norway has lately doubled down on building big. “Over the last few years, we’ve seen a surge in new attractions,” confirmed Katrine Mosfjeld, the chief marketing officer for Visit Norway. In seaside Oslo, the new luxury hotel Sommero is a study in adaptive reuse, inside a landmark building from 1930 originally designed by famed Norwegian architects Andreas Bjercke and Georg Eliassen. Four hours southwest, in Kristiansand, the Kunstsilo , or Art Silo, is another repurposed wonder: the one-time industrial complex will reemerge in 2024 as a museum devoted to Nordic modernist art. Up the coast, in Bergen, Iris Expedition Dining is a new tasting-menu destination located in Hardangerfjord, inside a floating sculpture known as the Salmon Eye. North of the Arctic Circle, the long-awaited Six Senses Svart promises to be one of the hottest openings anywhere when it finally debuts. The ring-shaped resort, at the base of the Svartisen glacier, aims to be off-grid, carbon-neutral, and emissions-free, with a zero-waste dining program and a “design lab,” as the hotel calls it, meant to foster further innovation. — Taylor McIntyre

Douro River, Portugal

Courtesy of Tauck

As recently as a decade ago, almost nobody was talking about wine tourism in Portugal. These days, “you have to see the Douro River,” said Sheree M. Mitchell , a T+L A-List advisor based in the country and the president of Immersa Global. “It’s non-negotiable.” Mitchell’s preferred way to do it is on a yacht charter, which gives guests the chance to spend a few hours or days hitting quintas , or wine estates, and dining at Michelin Guide–approved restaurants like Castas e Pratos . Cruises are a more affordable option, and lines are expanding their presence on the river, which cuts across Spain and Northern Portugal before reaching the Atlantic in the city of Porto. Tauck , a favorite among T+L readers, unveiled the Andorinha in 2021, which will sail 33 wine-country itineraries in 2024. Another T+L reader favorite, Viking, will have four ships on the Douro in the year ahead, visiting towns such as Peso da Régua and Pinhão, in the heart of port country. And AmaWaterways recently announced a special November 2024 departure that will “explore the history of the Black and African diaspora in Lisbon and along Portugal's stunning Douro River,” according to the brand. — Maya Kachroo-Levine

Faroe Islands

This remote, starkly beautiful archipelago in the North Atlantic just got way more accessible. Summer 2023 saw Atlantic Airways launch nonstop flights from New York Stewart International, 70 miles north of New York City, to Vágar Airport, in the islands. “This direct flight is not only about easier transport to our great ocean nation, but a means of creating a bridge between two worlds,” Jóhanna á Bergi, CEO of Atlantic Airways, told T+L. The news seems to have been warmly received by U.S. travelers. Melissa Lee , a Northern Europe specialist on T+L’s A-List said she has seen an uptick in interest in the Faroes. "Previously, you could only get there from Copenhagen, or Reykjavik, Iceland.” Once there, a world of adventure awaits, with activities including cold-water surfing , traditional knitting , and hiking to places such as Sørvágsvatn, the so-called lake above the ocean . Then there’s the top-flight dining: the restaurant Roks in Tórshavn, the Faroe Islands’ capital, is an offshoot of Koks, the Michelin two-starred restaurant in Greenland which is presently on hiatus. — Liz Cantrell

Kimberley, Australia

Bruno Cazarini/Courtesy of Silversea Cruises

This destination in northwest Australia, also called The Kimberleys, is home to ancient wonders: dinosaur tracks; striated geological formations, some 350 million years old, known as Bungle Bungles; waterfalls and reefs that seem unmoored from time; and Aboriginal history from what some call the world’s oldest continuous culture . Lately, though, some of the world’s top cruise lines have caught on to all the upside and are racing to offer thrilling expedition-style itineraries that combine all this history with modern-day adventures, such as sightseeing flights by helicopter, paddling, Zodiac tours, scuba diving, and cultural excursions. Silversea will have its Silver Cloud in the region from May through September, doing 10- to 17-day trips, with a maximum of 200 passengers. Seabourn is also bullish on the destination, and its newest expedition ship, the 132-suite Seabourn Pursuit , will spend June, July, and August cruising the region. (Both lines are perennial favorites among T+L readers .) Also operating on this remarkable stretch of coast are several Australian companies , including Coral Expeditions and True North Adventure Cruises , as well as private yacht charters like those organized by Yotspace . — Paul Brady

The Mississippi River

Courtesy of Viking

New ships are bringing fresh interest to one of America’s most storied waterways, meaning now’s the time to consider river cruising closer to home. “The Mississippi River is such an important part of American history,” said Adam Peakes, president of Hornblower Group, the parent company of American Queen Voyages. The line will have two ships on the Mississippi in 2024, both of which are already booking up for summer. “Many of our cabin categories are nearly at capacity almost a year in advance,” Peakes added. Other brands are also betting on the river: the Viking Mississippi launched in 2022, with 193 Scandi-chic suites, all with private verandas; American Cruise Lines has launched three new ships on the Mississippi in the past three years. There are new draws on land, too. In Memphis, the newly completed riverfront Tom Lee Park has an installation by artist Theaster Gates and a pavilion named for Tyre Nichols; the expansive riverfront attraction — a collaborative effort from Studio Gang, Scape Studio, and numerous other architectural and design firms — sits just south of Beale Street and is connected to the city via the River Line, a walking and cycling path. Meanwhile Natchez, Mississippi, is these days “filled with surprises, thanks in large part to a cohort of young natives who wandered away and then returned home with new ideas,” according to Southern Living ; come December, the town hosts holiday markets akin to those in Central Europe, as T+L recently reported . In St. Louis, the newest 21c Museum Hotel recently opened in a renovated, century-old YMCA building, with numerous permanent art installations as well as rotating shows and a beautiful, all-day cafe. And, of course, there’s always New Orleans . — Paul Brady

Courtesy of Cunard

Few voyages are as iconic as a transatlantic crossing aboard a Cunard ocean liner. So when the new Queen Anne departs Southampton, England, in May 2024, expectations will be sky-high for the first new Cunard ship to launch since the Queen Elizabeth in 2010. The 1,498-cabin vessel is slated to sail to Lisbon and will then spend its first summer in the Mediterranean. It will also represent an evolution for the 183-year-old brand: Queen Anne will have four new restaurants, including an omakase venue and an Indian dining room, alongside more familiar options such as the Princess Grill and Queens Grill, all overseen in partnership with U.K. chef Michel Roux, Jr. A top-deck wellness studio, with yoga and other fitness classes, will be another noteworthy addition to the ship. A third distinction: Queen Anne will be captained by Inger Klein Thorhauge, the first woman to hold that rank for Cunard. For all the new, some familiar traditions will remain, including proper high tea service and, naturally, an outpost of the Golden Lion pub pouring Cunard’s own microbrews. — Paul Brady

Seven Seas Grandeur

Courtesy of Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Slated to launch in November 2023, Seven Seas Grandeur will be the sixth ship from Regent Seven Seas Cruises, a luxury line that T+L readers consistently say is one of their absolute favorites thanks to no-nonsense, all-inclusive pricing and fabulous suites. The newcomer will feature fresh takes on the elevated dining, shore excursions, and entertainment already found on ships such as Seven Seas Splendor and Seven Seas Explorer , said Andrea DeMarco, the brand’s president. “ Grandeur is inspired by our rich heritage, but we’re reimagining signature restaurants and offering 15 exceptional suite categories to only 746 guests,” she explained. Among the no-expense-spared features of the new ship will be a multimillion-dollar, 1,600-piece art collection that counts among its trophies a handful of Picassos and a custom Fabergé Egg. (Fittingly, the ship’s godmother is Sarah Fabergé, the director of special projects for the jewelry house.) Grandeur ’s inaugural season will be in the Caribbean, but it will head for the Mediterranean in April before returning to the U.S. in August. — Elizabeth Rhodes

For Nature Lovers

Amboseli national park, kenya.

Courtesy of Angama

This 151-square-mile expanse, close to the border with Tanzania, is famed among safari insiders for its big-time wildlife: Amboseli has a well-earned reputation for elephant spotting, with massive herds roaming the dusty plains, along with all sorts of other charismatic creatures including cheetah, giraffe, and zebra. Camps and lodges surrounding the park tend to be basic, which is one reason the fall 2023 opening of the richly appointed Angama Amboseli is so exciting. The second? The 10-suite lodge is the first spinoff of the Angama Mara , a destination hotel that's among the best safari lodges in the world, according to T+L readers . The new property, located about 45 minutes driving from Amboseli National Park, on a private wildlife conservancy, will offer game drives as well as cultural experiences organized in partnership with local communities. Another draw: Angama Amboseli will have unparalleled views of the peak of nearby Mount Kilimanjaro, including from private patios attached to every suite. — Paul Brady

Aspen Mountain, Colorado

Jesse Hoffman/Courtesy of Aspen Snowmass

The legendary ski destination is getting its biggest makeover in four decades this season, with the opening of a new lift, a high-speed quad known as Hero’s that will make accessible a fresh 153 acres of fluffy powder. The project will increase the mountain’s skiable terrain by some 20 percent, adding more than a dozen new chutes, glades, and trails for intermediate and expert skiers. “The quad is a game-changer for Aspen,” said Maureen Poschman, a spokesperson for the Aspen Chamber Resort Association. “The new terrain is a big area, it’s high-altitude skiing, and it’s a bit of a hedge against climate change,” she noted. Not that you have to be a pro skier to find something to love in ever-evolving Aspen, which experienced an influx of residents the past few years . The cultural calendar is as packed as ever; Balenciaga and Hermès now have shops in the heart of town; and scene-y restaurants, including a Sant Ambroeus coffee bar, keep popping up. Where to stay? Mollie Aspen is the newest luxury hotel in town, slated to open in December with 68 rooms designed by Post Company, plus a rooftop plunge pool and terrace, right in the middle of it all. — Denny Lee

Big Sky, Montana

Mark Hartman

Just an hour from Yellowstone National Park, this wild, wide-open area offers heart-pumping activities such as fly fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and skiing at every turn. So, thankfully, a new retreat from hospitality brand One&Only is slated to bring some rest and relaxation to Big Sky in 2024. Situated between Lone Mountain and the Spanish Peaks, the 73-room Moonlight Basin will provide convenient access to 5,850 skiable acres, with a dedicated gondola connecting guests to Big Sky’s terrain, plus a private ski lodge and a Chenot spa. (The resort will also have 19 villas and 62 private residences.) The first U.S. outpost of One&Only, Moonlight Basin arrives a few years after another five-star resort, Montage Big Sky , which opened in 2021, with 139 rooms, six dining venues, a bowling alley, a huge spa, and, naturally, ski-in, ski-out access. — Alisha Prakash

Hokkaido, Japan

Courtesy of Club Med

Travelers are flocking back to Japan , but in the year ahead, they should look beyond Tokyo and Kyoto. Hokkaido, the northernmost of Japan’s main islands, has a sterling reputation for food — its biggest city, Sapporo, is famous for miso ramen — and its Shiretoko National Park is a natural wonder with excellent hiking and photogenic waterfalls. Hokkaido is also, insiders know, one of the world’s premier ski destinations thanks to simply phenomenal snow . The center of the action is the village of Niseko, which has plenty of hotels, homestays, and resorts — but has gotten a touch easier to visit thanks to the 2022 opening of Club Med Kiroro. The something-for-everyone property has two distinctive concepts, Club Med Kiroro Peak , for guests age 12 and older, and the new-in-2023 Club Med Kiroro Grand , a family-friendly alternative. These all-inclusives are helping to eliminate the intimidation factor when booking a Japanese ski week, by rolling up everything from accommodations and equipment rentals to off-the-mountain entertainment and kids' clubs. Another perk? Club Med Kiroro Grand will also have the brand’s first-ever Japanese onsen alongside other wellness facilities including soaking tubs and saunas. — Danielle Pointdujour

KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

Sven Musica/Courtesy of Madwaleni River Lodge - Babanango Game Reserve

This out-of-the-way South African province, sometimes shortened to KZN and located on the country’s eastern coast, is moving into the spotlight. “KwaZulu-Natal has two World Heritage Sites — the iSimangaliso Wetland Park and the majestic uKhahlamba Drakensberg National Park — and is popular for its beaches, safari parks, green hills, and temperate weather,” said Julian Harrison , a safari expert and longtime member of T+L’s A-List. It’s also home to an ambitious rewilding project backed by the Emcakwini Community Trust , which began reintroducing once-endemic species including black rhino, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, and lion in 2018; today, it’s known as Babanango Game Reserve . Harrison also points to other conservation efforts, such as those underway at andBeyond Phinda Private Game Reserve , which is monitoring critically endangered Temminck’s ground pangolins. The newly opened Madwaleni River Lodge is the place to stay, said Raza Visram , another A-List expert. “The intimate lodge has 12 beautifully designed tents that overlook the White Umfolozi River,” he explained. There’s also Sala Beach House , an oceanfront escape on Thompson’s Bay that writer Heather Richardson detailed in T+L’s September 2023 issue . Coming soon in KZN will be The Homestead , a 12-suite eco-lodge in the province’s western Nambiti Game Reserve. — Samantha Falewée

Mababe, Botswana

Dana Allen/Courtesy of Wilderness

Long considered one of Africa’s most exclusive safari destinations, Botswana has a huge array of five-star lodges, operated by the likes of African Bush Camps, andBeyond, and Great Plains Conservation. But the most compelling new place to stay isn’t one with high thread count sheets or over-the-top amenities: Mokete, a new safari lodge from Wilderness , is worth the trip because it will only exist until 2026, when the operator pulls down the tents and carries away any sign the nine-suite escape was ever there. The temporary enclave will be situated east of the famed Okavango Delta, in the heart of a 124,000-acre tract known as the Mababe Concession, which has considerable populations of lion, elephant, and buffalo, plus a huge variety of birds. Wildlife watching is the thing here, with all-day game drives and guided nature walks. Mokete is all about an elemental connection with the outdoors, down to the design of the guest quarters: each tent will have a retractable roof so guests can stargaze from bed — and hear the calls of hyenas from the surrounding bush. — Paul Brady

New Zealand

It’s time to take it off your once-in-a-lifetime list and just go : earlier this year, Delta launched service from Los Angeles to Auckland, and United Airlines plans to start a San Francisco to Christchurch route in December. That’s on top of an existing Air New Zealand nonstop between Auckland and New York City that launched in 2022 . “Any time of year is a great time to visit,” said Sarah Farag , a member of T+L’s A-List and the Auckland-based owner and director of Southern Crossings , a luxury travel firm. “Our summer months are always popular,” Farag said of the December to March period, “but those who come at other times are well-rewarded with captivating colors during autumn harvest season, snow-capped adventures and spectacular stargazing in the winter, and fabulous fishing and hiking in spring.” There’s a growing number of enticing stays, including the new exclusive-use villas at Flockhill Lodge , set on a working sheep station, and the Clifftops at Anderson Cove , a tented camp above the Northland coast. Christchurch has recently seen the opening of two new boutique properties, the sleek, modern Mayfair and the artsy Observatory Hotel ; meanwhile the beloved Huka Lodge in Taupo is getting a makeover. If the outdoors are a priority, turn an eye to the North Island’s Wairarapa Dark Sky Reserve , the country’s second, which was certified earlier this year, or the new Tom Doak–designed golf course which just opened at Te Arai Links . — Peter Terzian

For Beach Vibes

Anna maria island, florida.

Flavio Vallenari/Getty Images

Compared to some brand-name Florida destinations, this island south of Tampa Bay is way under the radar. But it's cultivated a loyal following, thanks to its no-high-rises shoreline, incredible sunsets, and small-town feel. Case in point: Anna Maria Island is a place where most people tool around by golf cart or beach cruiser, and almost all the sherbet-hued clapboard homes are vacation rentals. In an effort to keep things copacetic, the Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, which works on the island, inked a partnership with Leave No Trace this summer, making Anna Maria the first destination in Florida to work with the nonprofit. Meanwhile, new developments fit right in with the vibe: Mello on the Beach , a hotel that opened in July, offers vibrant retro-style apartments on the Gulf of Mexico, while the villas of Joie Inn , which opened in 2021, still feel super-fresh. On the dining scene, the cocktail bar Doctor’s Office recently added a “dining room” to its string-lit outdoor garden, and coming soon to the island is Bohemian, a restaurant from repeat James Beard semifinalist Jeannie Pierola. Getting there has gotten easier thanks to growth at Sarasota-Bradenton International, which added nonstops to four new domestic destinations in 2023. A planned terminal expansion looks to be right-sized, too: the airport aims to add five gates next year. — Jennifer Salerno Yong

Coastal Campania, Italy

It’s no wonder Campania — the southern Italian region that’s home to Amalfi, Capri, Positano, and Sorrento — is having a bit of a hotel boom: visitors have been flocking to this splashy coastal destination over the past few years. The renaissance kicked off with Il Capri Hotel , which opened on the island last spring, offering travelers a boutique option inside a neo-Gothic villa reminiscent of a Venetian palazzo. Next, Oetker Collection, the luxury hotel brand behind the celeb-loved Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France, debuted its first Italian hotel in June: the glamorous, 50-room Hotel La Palma is a fresh take on a property that originally opened in 1822. Then there’s the new Convento di Amalfi , a 52-room Anantara with a cliffside pool, set in a 13th-century Capuchin convent. Airlines have also taken note of the increased demand: American Airlines and Delta are both launching new routes to Naples next year, the former from Philadelphia, the latter from New York City. Lindblad Expeditions, meanwhile, will have its new Sea Cloud II in southern Italy this coming May, for an 11-day itinerary that will take guests to the ancient ruins of Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast’s most beautiful seaside villages, with a focus on Italian food and wine. —  Nina Ruggiero

Taylor McIntyre/Travel + Leisure

The land of pura vida just keeps getting better, which is why Costa Rica was just named T+L’s 2024 Destination of the Year . Surfers can find their bliss at the new, boho-chic Sendero hotel, which opened in February in oceanside Nosara, on the Nicoya Peninsula. A few hours north, the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo has added the new Virador Beach Club, updated its golf course (while cutting water usage), and opened Wellness Shala, a spa that offers healing treatments with local ingredients like cacao, coconut, and volcanic mud. Nearby, the community of Las Catalinas has announced a new mixed-use space, La Rambla, which will promote spending time outside and car-free living. Forward-thinking tour operator Intrepid Travel has launched new trips that shine a light on the Terraba community, one of Costa Rica’s eight Indigenous groups. Meanwhile local outfitters such as UrriTrek are now offering guided hiking trips on the 174-mile Camino de Costa Rica , a trail connecting the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. — Samantha Falewée

The self-declared Nature Island, Dominica has been voted the best island in the Caribbean for the past two years in T+L’s World’s Best Awards , thanks in part to its serene tropical rain forests, enticing hot springs, and gushing waterfalls. There’s also an ever-growing number of resorts and hotels, such as the InterContinental Dominica Cabrits Resort & Spa , which opened this year, and the forthcoming Anichi Resort & Spa, Autograph Collection , and Tranquility Beach Resort — Curio — a Collection by Hilton . Also of note is the new 32-nautical-mile Waitukubuli Sea Trail, which takes sea-kayakers along the island's western coast from Scott’s Head to Capuchin; Soufrière Outdoor Centre can supply equipment, an itinerary, and a guide. And there’s another element to Dominica’s story that’s capturing the attention of travelers who care about sustainability. The volcanically active country plans to commission its first geothermal power plant in 2024, and in the meantime gets about a quarter of its overall power from hydroelectric sources. It’s also home to what T+L has called one of the world’s most eco-friendly resorts, Coulibri Ridge . — Annie Archer

Hawai’i Island

Courtesy of Rosewood Resorts

“We welcome mindful visitors to Hawai‘i Island,” said Ilihia Gionson, the public affairs officer of the Hawai'i Tourism Authority, in an interview with T+L. Commonly known as the Big Island, the destination is planning for a meaningful 2024, with the help of returning visitors. “Travelers have the opportunity to help mālama , or care for, our natural resources and support our community to ensure a regenerative model of tourism that is sustained for generations,” Gionson said. The theme of mālama is more significant than ever this year following the devastating fires that impacted both Hawai’i Island and Maui in 2023. Those looking to support relief efforts have many choices, including the Hawaii Red Cross, the Lāhainā Restoration Foundation, and more . Travelers ready to return might consider Kona Village, an iconic hotel that reopened in 2023 as a Rosewood Resort following its closure in 2011. “Each villa feels like your own little beach house,” Nicole Hollis, the interior designer of Kona Village, told T+L . Various events are on the island’s cultural calendar in the year ahead, including the Kona Brewers Festival in March and the Big Island Chocolate Festival in April. — Christine Burroni

Los Cabos, Mexico

Mariah Tyler/Travel + Leisure

With its rugged desert-meets-ocean landscape, 350 days a year of sun, and stunning five-star resorts, Los Cabos isn’t exactly an unexpected choice for a dreamy vacation. But 2024 promises to be a big year for the Baja California destination, thanks to all the new resorts coming to Cabo del Sol, the 1,800-acre community just east of Cabo San Lucas with two miles of beach and two 18-hole golf courses. Four Seasons Resort Cabo San Lucas at Cabo Del Sol and Soho House Beach Club are expected to open in the first part of 2024; Park Hyatt Los Cabos at Cabo Del Sol will join them by the end of the year. On the southern shore of the peninsula — and not far from the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal , a T+L reader fave — there’s even more happening: the resort community of Quivira Los Cabos will welcome the 120-room St. Regis Los Cabos at Quivira by late 2024, with access to 2.5 miles of beach and its own Jack Nicklaus golf course. — Danielle Pointdujour

Mallorca, Spain

Lara D'Agostino/Travel + Leisure

The sparkling waters, delicious food, and laid-back atmosphere are all still here — and Americans are loving United’s summertime nonstop service from Newark Liberty International. In the year ahead, though, they’ll be visiting for the booming luxury hotel scene, which is poised to help this island steal the spotlight from its western neighbor, Ibiza. One must-see is Son Bunyola , a Virgin Limited Edition retreat on Mallorca’s northwest coast, with three miles of beautiful coastline backed by olive groves. Sir Richard Branson first purchased the property in 1994, as T+L recently reported , but it only opened to guests this summer, with 26 rooms and suites, plus three villas. Nearby is The Lodge Mallorca , a Small Luxury Hotels of the World retreat that opened in May, which has wood-fired dining and extensive wellness programming. Then there’s the first hotel from 22-time Grand Slam champion and Majorcan Rafael Nadal, whose new Zel lifestyle brand has opened — what else? — Zel Mallorca , an approachable, beachy hotel in partnership with Meliá, the Spanish operator. Coming soon, said Clare Watkins, an expert in the Balearic Islands at Red Savannah , are more exciting properties: Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor will be a top-to-bottom refresh of a century-old hotel, while Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca, will have 131 rooms, plus 44 suites and nine bungalows, overlooking the sea just outside Palma. — Danielle Pointdujour

For Adventurous Travelers

Alula, saudi arabia.

Didier Marti/Getty Images

Of all the ambitious tourism developments in Saudi Arabia, AlUla may be the most enchanting, which may explain why Qatar Airways recently launched new flights to the destination from its Doha hub. This huge sweep of red rocks and desert in the country’s northwest is home to Hegra, a 2,000-year-old archeological site filled with soaring tombs carved by the Nabataean civilization, the same one that built Petra, in modern-day Jordan. After touring ancient history, visitors can retreat to decadent contemporary hotels, including a forthcoming 36-room luxury resort at Hegra that will sensitively incorporate parts of an old railway station and fort. A short drive away, in AlUla’s Old Town, the contrast of old and new continues; the new 30-room eco-hotel Dar Tantora , for example, eschews electricity in favor of candlelight. In the year ahead, more fresh thinking will touch down in AlUla, courtesy of Wadi AlFann, or Valley of the Arts, a permanent showcase of works from big-name international artists. The best way to see it might be from on high, duringca April’s “AlUla Skies” festival, when helicopters and hot air balloons will soar above Instagram-worthy monuments. —  Jacqui Gifford

Bahia, Brazil

Marta Tucci

This coastal state, situated between the Amazon and Rio de Janeiro, is the sort of place most Americans never quite get to — and that’s a shame. Its coastline offers some of the most mythical surf-and-sand spots in the world, including Itacaré, which is home to the community-minded Barracuda Hotel & Villas , and the boho-chic enclave of Trancoso, a place that “first captured the imagination of the international creative set back in the 1980s,” as T+L reported in the September 2023 issue . “The beaches are some of the most picturesque in Brazil,” said Paul Irvine , an expert in the country and member of T+L’s A-List. But, he added, there’s more to Bahia than the coast. “We’ve started sending our more adventurous clients to the Chapada Diamantina National Park ,” he said, “which has its own vibrant, off-grid hippy culture.” While high-end hotels in the area are in short supply, more villa accommodations are popping up all the time. One thing to keep in mind for 2024: Brazil stopped requiring a visa for U.S. citizens back in 2019, but the country’s tourism officials have said that the mandate will return on Jan. 10, though further details on how to apply and any fees have yet to be announced. — Paul Brady

Northern Pakistan

Courtesy of Intrepid Travel

The northern reaches of this South Asian nation have a growing profile in the adventure-travel world, thanks to striking topography, high-elevation lakes, and precipitous peaks. Consider that, in 2023, Intrepid Travel launched a 12-day women-only expedition to the region, a first for the tour operator, which has similar trips in places such as Jordan, India, and Morocco. Intrepid will return in 2024 — with departures in May, September, and October — taking women to ancient villages, alpine lakes, and historic forts; travelers will have ample opportunity to meet with locals in areas that would be off-limits if men were part of the group, according to Intrepid. Other outfitters are heading to Northern Pakistan as well. Wild Frontiers will debut a brand-new, 14-day walking adventure that will no doubt challenge the bodies and minds of those who are up for it, with several full-day hikes, some above 4,000 meters (13,123 feet). The payoff comes in the form of staggeringly beautiful landscapes — not to mention the chance to make connections with people you meet along the way and see historic gems in Islamabad, the trip’s jumping off point. — Alisha Prakash

Peru's Trekking Routes

In a country where all roads seemingly lead to spectacular scenery and historic finds, there’s much more to explore beyond majestic Machu Picchu. These days, travelers have more options for getting off familiar routes thanks to the efforts of companies such as Alpaca Expeditions , an Indigenous-owned outfitter that will lead its first-ever, all-women hiking trip on the Salkantay Trail in 2024. Operated by women — including guides, porters, drivers, chefs, and other staff — for women, the seven-day adventure will include stays high in the Andes and cultural experiences such as cooking classes and farm visits that aren’t typical on more popular Inca Trail trips. Meanwhile the tour operator Intrepid Travel debuted in 2023 a 12-day expedition on the Great Inca Road in northern Peru. Starting in Huaraz and culminating at the Inca site of Huanuco Pampa, the trek will immerse hikers in this less-visited region’s nature and culture, including plentiful archeological sites. — Alisha Prakash

South Australia

ROBERT LANG/Courtesy of South Australia Tourism Commission

Visitors to this low-key state may feel like they’re in on a big-time secret with all that’s happening lately. The biggest news may be Australia’s new national park, Nilpena Ediacara , which opened in April and gives travelers a look at the oldest known fossils on the planet. “They’re about 550 million years old,” Mary L. Droser, an American paleontologist, explained in a recent interview with T+L . Across South Australia’s wine country, meanwhile, hotels such as Le Mas Barossa , Sequoia Lodge , and The Vineyard McLaren Vale are gateways to the hundreds of vineyards and cellar doors just outside of Adelaide, the state capital. “South Australia is known as the wine state for a reason,” said Tim Duval, the winemaker at John Duval Wines . Travelers can learn about small-batch wineries (including Duval’s) at Artisans of Barossa ; sample eco-conscious shiraz at Bird in Hand ; and enjoy a tasting in The Cube, a five-story structure fashioned after an unfinished Rubik’s Cube, at d’Arenberg . Another notable stay can be found on Kangaroo Island, where the famed Southern Ocean Lodge is slated to reopen in December after the disastrous bushfires of 2020. — Samantha Lauriello

Tatiana Kashko/Getty Images

This small South Asian island nation has big things on offer. “You can cover a lot of ground in two weeks, with loads of variety in the landscapes, from gorgeous beaches to lush jungles to high mountains to historic cities,” said Catherine Heald, co-founder and CEO of Remote Lands, a luxury travel firm. This year, the tea company Dilmah opened two boutique stays under its Reverie brand, Kayaam House and Ahu Bay ; Sri Lankan–owned hotel group Uga is debuting Uga Riva in Negombo this November; and for foodies, Red Savannah recently rolled out a culinary tour of Sri Lanka. Political unrest in 2022 took the destination off the table for many travelers, acknowledged Rachel Cooper , a South Asia travel expert at Red Savannah. But, she added, "the new government has introduced measures to protect and encourage a positive traveler experience throughout the country.” — Susmita Baral

The sandwich chain is axing its current loyalty points scheme and is urging customers to use their points before it ends.

Currently, Subway allows customers to collect points by scanning their app or card at the till when they buy a sub.

For every pound spent, they receive 10 loyalty points, as long as it is registered on the app.

If the card is not registered customers only get five points per pound.

These points add up to get diners free food, with 100 points needed for a hot drink, 200 points for a snack, 500 points for a six-inch sub and 1,000 points for a 12-inch.

But the scheme is set to come to an end on 14 May with any points balance being unredeemable, the chain has warned.

In an email to customers, it said the scheme was having a "makeover" with a "new levelling system, bigger rewards and surprise treats".

Hammersmith and Fulham Council have issued more than 341,000 penalty charge notices in 11 months, according to The Telegraph.

LTNs see large stretches of road completely pedestrianised and they are becoming more popular with local authorities despite objections from motorists.

Generally roads are redesigned to make them easier for walkers and cyclists.

They can include bollards to stop motor access altogether, one-way streets or filters just for buses and emergency services to travel through.

Cabinet ministers in Switzerland are giving up their free ski passes amid the spike in the cost of living.

Previously members of the Federal Council, as well as former members and their families, were entitled to a free pass that granted them access to all resorts in the country worth around 4,000CHF (£3,500).

However, amid claims that the passes were an "unjustifiable luxury" in the current economic climate, the seven members of the council said last week that taxpayers would no longer pay to fund ski passes for themselves and their families or for former ministers from 2025.

The move comes at a time when the government is seeking to implement cutbacks in public spending, with the passes becoming a focus of criticism by the Swiss public.

Federal councillors and their partners will, however, continue to receive free first class annual train passes, as will former councillors and their partners.

The retailer has issued an apology to customers after many complained of delays to their orders.

It admitted its service wasn't "good enough" as its move to a new distribution centre hadn't gone "as smoothly as we planned".

Customers complained on social media of "disappointing" service, with some saying they had waited weeks for their orders to arrive.

The White Company said it was contacting people impacted and offering refunds.

It said it had temporarily removed all delayed products from its website and was working "as hard and as quickly as possible to resolve the issues".

"I am truly sorry that this has happened and I want to thank all of you for bearing with us while we get back to the levels of service that you, our customers, expect and deserve," said chief executive Mary Homer.

As we've been reporting, numerous household bills are going up in price today.

People are set to see increases in prices for TV packages, broadband, council tax, TV licences, water and rent for social housing - as well as car tax, train fares and stamps.

With many households already feeling the pinch, is there anything you can do to cut costs?

Check if you're out of contract

When it comes to TV and broadband packages, major providers BT, EE, Plusnet and Vodafone are charging customers 7.9% more from this month, while Virgin Media and O2 are upping prices by 8.8% (although some O2 customers will see smaller rises than this).

Sky is also implementing price rises, meaning most Sky TV and broadband customers will pay an average of 6.7% more from today.

This is because these services usually have price increases baked into the contract that are linked to the RPI measure of inflation.

You might be able to avoid the rises by switching provider as cheaper deals are often available to new customers.

You should check to see if you're out of contract first, or what the exit penalty may be.

Research by Which? shows switching providers when you're out of contract could cut bills by up to £187.

If you don't want to leave your provider, you could also call them and try to haggle down your monthly cost.

Check if you can get council tax support

With the majority of councils increasing their council tax by the maximum amount this month, some households could see their bills jump significantly.

Analysis by AJ Bell suggests the maximum 4.99% increase for an average Band D property in the UK would raise bills by £103 - although those in bigger properties or more expensive areas for council tax could see larger increases.

You may qualify for extra support or a reduction in your council tax bill, for example if you're on a low income, are a student, are living alone or are disabled.

Another option is to have your council tax bill spread over 12 months instead of the usual 10 - this won't save you money but could help you to budget, if your council offers this option.

You could also get your home's council tax band reviewed, which may entitle you to a refund if you're in the wrong band. However, you should be aware the review could lead to your property being put in a higher band.

See if you're eligible for a free or discounted TV licence

If you're 75 or over and you get pension credit, or you live with a partner who does, you qualify for a free TV licence.

You can apply for it here  or call TV Licensing on 0300 790 6071.

Those in residential care or sheltered accommodation can get a licence for £7.50, while those registered blind or living with someone who is can get a 50% discount.

Use these tips for cheaper train fares

Rail fares will rise by 8.7% this month for those in Scotland, after the Scottish government argued previous fare freezes were not sustainable.

For those in England and Wales, fares rose by 4.9% on 3 March.

One of the best ways of saving on your train fare is to buy in advance.

Tickets are usually released up to 12 weeks before travel, although some may be earlier.

Another way to travel cheaper is by splitting your fare, meaning you split your journey into multiple tickets between stations.

You can use sites like Split My Fare and Split Train Tickets to work out whether this will be cheaper for you.

If you are eligible for a railcard, this can be another way of saving on ticket purchases.

People who live in poorly insulated homes could end up with gas bills about 50% higher than those whose properties have met government targets as the new price cap comes into force.

The average annual gas bill will be about £340 higher per year for homes with an energy performance certificate (EPC) score of F, according to analysis by the Energy and Climate Change Intelligence Unit (ECIU).

This extra cost is compared with homes with EPC ratings of C, which are considered reasonably well-insulated.

Homes with a D rating will face annual bills about 15% higher.

In September, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak scrapped plans that would have forced private landlords to ensure their properties had a minimum level of insulation.

ECIU energy analyst Jess Ralston said: "Government insulation schemes are not delivering at target levels and fixing them does not seem to be a priority, despite the bill and energy security benefits."

A Department for Energy Security and Net Zero spokesperson said nearly half of all homes in England have an EPC rating of C or above.

Drivers have seen their insurance premiums increase dramatically in the past two years - but some positive signs suggest costs are starting to fall.

Comparison site Compare the Market said the average fully comprehensive premium was £892 in February, down from a peak of £951 in November, according to The Times.

However, this is still up 46% on February last year.

Meanwhile, market researcher Consumer Intelligence said premium prices had flattened out.

Premiums for new customers rose by 59.7% between February last year and December but have fallen slightly since.

It follows comments from two of the UK's largest insurers last month, who suggested the pace of premium rises had peaked.

Admiral said the easing of cost pressures recently meant the company had been able to slightly reduce premiums.

Its competitor Direct Line said the rate by which it increased vehicle premiums would fall from 24% last year to an estimated 20% this year.

Vodka alcopop Reef is back on shelves after being discontinued in the early 2000s.

The fruity drink had been popular among ravers and clubbers in the 1990s.

It follows the return of Hooch in 2012.

Recent months have seen a 90s revival in popular culture, and the brand told the Sun its return would help Britons "remember the days before responsibilities".

A spokeswoman added: "Reef is back on shelves, ready to transport the UK back to a time when life was simpler, with its nostalgic taste and still chill vibes."

As of today, wages are increasing for the lowest paid workers in the country.

While these changes will be welcomed by many, they could cause problems in the hospitality sector.

The minimum wage changes will add £3.2bn to hospitality payrolls collectively, according to The Times.

Payrolls already account for more than half of the industry's operating costs, with licensed businesses paying £40bn in wages and employment costs.

The industry has already been struggling with soaring costs and openings of licensed premises are at their lowest level for three years, according to UK Hospitality.

This Easter, chocolate lovers may have noticed they had to pay more for their eggs.

Now, the cost of chocolate could soar after changing climate patterns hit cocoa supplies in west Africa.

We've been talking to a chocolate maker about what's happening...
