Something Special

Such a fun evening! All the stories from the actors were great, and the memorable clips from the show really brought you back to how wonderful The Sopranos was. It would be great if the could invite other surviving cast members as rotating guests. Seeing it in NJ was an added bonus! We went to Holstens for lunch before the show and saw the booth where the last episode was filmed.

Good reunion sharing but parts felt too staged

I enjoyed many stories and learning more about the Soprano cast backstory. I was surprised by the screen rear projections coming up on cue so it did not feel at times like spontaneous answers or questions. The show exceeded the 90 minutes billed but did not feel too long when ended. Do not if the same host is at every show but a more scholarly approach was what I would prefer.

We were rushed through the meet and greet and I would have never paid that amount of money for it. It was pathetic.

It was pretty good, except………

So, being like the zillion other people there, a Soprano’s Freak, I guess I was hoping for a bit more “access” i.e. being able to take pics of The Guys or, at least a few during the show. We were pretty much told NO about any of that and I know I was not happy. I guess I would have assumed that we could take SOMETHING from it besides the large Sopranos sign. The show, and The Guys, were good and I liked the side stories. SO, I wish we had been forewarned about the restrictions, but, I still would have gone….pouting!

So many memories!

This was such a fun night! The guys were so much fun and shared so many wonderful stories and memories. They talked for over 90 minutes. The opener was a pretty funny comedian too - he did a 15 minute set to open the show and then the guys came out. If you enjoyed the podcast and / or the book, you’ll enjoy the show!

Great show! Best I have ever been to. I would definitely go again if they come back around again.

Excellent show, the guys were great. We had so much fun.

Loved it every second of it. Listening to them go do memory lane. The stories they told, the laughs shared. The way they talked about James (Tony) was heartwarming. Went with my mom, who is an OG got her Sopranos cook book signed by all three guys! Once in a lifetime moment

I really wanted to give 5 stars but…

It kills me to leave a four star review. Michael Imperioli, Steve Schirripa and Vincent Pastore we’re incredible. They were very informative and kept us well entertained. The negative was the audience question and answer session. Out of all the questions, only about 10% were good questions or even a question at all. I felt that those audience members wasted our time with nonsense and, in fact many people left during the question and answer segment, including us (which was very disappointing because I brought my copy of their book along to be signed). If there was a way the questions could be previewed to weed out the nonsense, I would give 10 stars!!

All In The Family

Great experience hearing all about making the Sopranos, a true TV classic and one of the best shows ever made. Will stand the test of time and last forever!!

Check out this list of iconic Sopranos filming locations that you can visit in New Jersey

About 15 years after the finale of "The Sopranos," the show continues to captivate old and new fans alike.

As said by The New York Times for the show's 20th anniversary, "On Jan. 10, 1999, a mobster walked into a psychiatrist's office. What happened next - over the course of eight years - was a television revolution."

As many fans and New Jersey residents know, there are a ton of locations all over the state where "The Sopranos" filmed iconic scenes on site.

So, if you are looking for the ultimate Sopranos-themed day out in Jersey, here is the guide for you!

The opening credit drive

If you are really serious about the Tony Soprano thing, you can start with a drive from New York through the Lincoln Tunnel to the Jersey Turnpike. Grab a turnpike ticket like the old days and prepare to drive all over the place because, as it turns out, the drive is not one continuous route.

According to Marc Baron, who runs the Soprano Site Tour , "When they filmed the pilot episode - with a small budget - they shot the opening credits randomly."

If you do want to plan a route, here are a few locations of the iconic shots in the opening credits:

  • The old Hydo-Pruf factory can be seen near exit 15E on the Turnpike.
  • Wilson's Carpet and Furniture, the location with the big Paul Bunyon-like statue, is located in Jersey City at 220 Broadway.
  • The view of the Statue of Liberty would be en route from the Holland Tunnel near exit 14 Turnpike Newark Bay Extension.
  • The "Drive Safely" storage tank is the Bayway Refinery in Linden near exit 12.
  • Pizza Land is located at 260 Belleville Turnpike in North Arlington.

Finally, after all that driving, you might end up at 14 Aspen Drive in North Caldwell, also known as Tony Soprano's house , where people commonly go to take photos at the end of the iconic driveway.

Hungry? Try a food tour tasty enough for Tony Soprano

The first place you might think of when considering a Tony Soprano food tour is Holsten's Ice Cream, Chocolate, and Restaurant located at 1063 Broad St. in Bloomfield where the controversial final scene took place.

"Tony Soprano himself, played by the inimitable late James Gandolfini, sat in one of our classic vinyl booths and ordered a plate of onion rings in the final moments of the hit HBO series," says the Holsten's website . "You can be a part of Sopranos history too. Come in and ask us about the booth where Tony Soprano had his last meal and try the onion rings for yourself."

You can also sift through the jukebox that played "Don't Stop Believin'" and purchase Sopranos merchandise including hats and T-shirts.

Another Sopranos location to grab a bite at is Centanni's Meat Market located at 815 2nd Ave in Elizabeth.

Centanni's is a butcher shop and was the inspiration behind Soprano's go-to gabagool spot, Satriale's Pork Store. Centanni's also served as a filming location in the pilot episode. The real Satriale's filming location in Kearny has been torn down since the end of filming.

A few more iconic Sopranos spots...

If you for some reason are bringing your kids on this excursion, maybe skip this next one.

The Satin Dolls Gentlemen's Club and Sports Bar in Lodi was made famous in "The Sopranos" as the Bada Bing strip club, a key location throughout the series.

The club closed in December of 2017 but reopened in March of 2018 . The name is still Satin Dolls but there is also a sign outside that says, "Home of the original Bada Bing," an attractive piece of signage for Soprano tourists.

Finally, in honor of many people's favorite episode, you can take a hike through the Pine Barrens. Although the Pine Barrens are a bit outside of the boundaries of North Jersey, for Sopranos fans, they are iconic nonetheless. Even though that episode was actually filmed in Harriman State Park, New York. Watch out for any supposed interior designers.

If there are any specific locations you are looking for that were not mentioned here, check out The Sopranos Location Guide .

To entertain you throughout this long drive around Jersey, check out the Sopranos playlist on Spotify that starts with "Woke Up This Morning" by Alabama 3 and ends with 'Don't Stop Believin" by Journey.

Fans or anybody looking to watch the show can stream "The Sopranos" on HBO Max.

This 'Sopranos' Tour Takes Fans to Iconic Sites From the Series and New Film — Complete With Tony's Favorite NJ Eats

The four-hour tour includes stops at Father Phil's Parish, Searchlight Diner, and Holsten's ice cream shop.

sopranos on tour

Now that The Sopranos is back with the release of prequel "The Many Saints of Newark," the sites from the original series have taken on more meaning — and On Location Tours is taking fans from New York City to all the most crucial spots in New Jersey, ending in the most spectacular fashion.

Although the tour has been running for 20 years, it's constantly being updated, and now new stops from the prequel are being added in Newark.

The tour starts in Manhattan near 7th Avenue and 39th Street. It follows Tony Soprano's familiar drive in the opening credits out of the city, where he heads out of the Lincoln Tunnel, the view of the Manhattan skyline behind him. Other iconic sites along the way are The Muffler Man, Pizza Land, and the Valley Landscape silo. Also along the drive is the Pulaski Skyway ramp that's seen at the end of each episode.

Then there are stops at some of the most recognizable locations, like Tony's business at Barone Sanitation, the Skyway Diner (where you can sit on the steps where Christopher was shot), Big Pussy's auto body shop, and Satin Dolls (also called Bada Bing). Also on the itinerary are visits to Father Phil's Parish, Satriale's Pork Store, Party Box, Searchlight Diner, and St. Cecilia's Church.

The highlight is a stop at Holsten's , the ice cream shop in Bloomfield, where guests can sit in booth B-3 , just like Tony did with his family in the very last scene of the series — and enjoy the onion rings he called the "best in the state."

The tours are led by local actors — including Marc, the lead guide on this tour who has appeared as a stand-in and extra on the series — who reveal behind-the-scenes secrets and challenge the guests to trivia along the way.

The Sopranos Tour is offered either as a public tour starting at $72 per person, or as a private tour with a three-person minimum for $160 per person. A limo buyout option is also available for up to five people for $740 total. On Location Tours offers the excursion daily and guests must be at least 18 years old.

For those looking to rub shoulders with the fictional mobsters, Joseph Gannascoli, who played Vito, has been known to surprise visitors at the start of the tour.

Film series

Full description, from manhattan to “sopranoland”.

The Sopranos Sites Tour is based on the popular television show created by David Chase for HBO. The Sopranos stars James Gandolfini as Tony Soprano , a New Jersey mafia boss. The television show’s many successful seasons revolve around Tony Sopranos difficulties as he tries to balance his family life and running his criminal organization.

The show gave a bird’s eye view into mob life and allowed viewers to see the inner workings of this New Jersey crime family. Season 1 and half of Season 2 were focused on Tony’s relationship with his mother Livia , played by Nancy Marchand .

Ms. Marchand passed away halfway through Season 2’s filming, which was eventually written into the story line. From that point on, Tony’s wife, Carmella (played by Edie Falco), his daughter Meadow (played by Jamie Lynn Siegler), along with his son AJ (played by Robert Iler) vie for Tony’s attention in between the dirty deals and beat downs that take place on a daily basis in this mob boss’ life.

The tour begins in New York and starts out with sites from the opening credits, including the exit of the Lincoln Tunnel and the famous Manhattan skyline . As you arrive in Jersey, you’ll see more sites from the credits like The Muffler Man, Pizza Land, the Valley Landscape silo, a featured Tudor house, a building in the center of the Meadowlands that Tony often passes, and the ramp to the Pulaski Skyway seen at the end of every episode.

Skyway Diner

The tour then hits some of the most recognizable places from The Sopranos: Barone Sanitation (Tony’s business), the Skyway Diner (where Christopher gets shot), Big Pussy’s auto body shop , and Satin Dolls , also known as the Bada Bing.

The tour visits major sites that were used in filming the show such as Cozzarelli’s, Party Box (now unoccupied) and Car Wash, Searchlight Diner and St. Cecila’s Church, all of which were locations for majors scenes in the show.

Get off the bus for a fun stop at Holsten’s (where the final scene of the last episode was shot) and enjoy complimentary onion rings just as you see Tony and his family indulging in in that final scene. Sit in “Tony’s” booth with your family for a nostalgic photo to share with friends.

Another major location for the television show, Satriale’s Pork Store , was a fictional establishment that was housed in an empty warehouse next to the Irish American Club in Kearny. The set was dismantled after the filming of the series concluded, and the building was torn down to make way for condominiums, which never happened!

More Sopranos filming locations include the back of Big Pussy’s house, the batting cages used by Pussy, AJ and Kevin, the Gold Driving Range where Tony takes his first Prozac, the marina where the Season 5 poster was photographed, Harrison High School where AJ vandalizes the pool, Seabra’s Rodizo, used as the Searchlight Diner where Pussy turns FBI informant, the statue of Christopher Columbus where the Sopranos get into a fight with the Native Americans, St. Cecilia’s (Carmela’s church), the funeral home used for Carmine’s wake, the Nuovo Vesuvio; and many, many more.

You Gotta Eat…

Holsten’s Diner

During the tour, you’ll get the chance to eat at Holsten’s Diner . If you’d rather venture on your own after the tour, why not grab a bite to eat in the great Manhattan neighborhood of Little Italy, where the Soprano family often spent time on the show.

Just follow the red, white, and green parking meters along Mulberry Street (between Grand and Canal streets) and you will find more Italian eateries than you could ever hope to visit in a single trip, like Amici II, Café Roma, Casa Bella, Lombardi’s, Fratelli, Caffe Sorrento, Il Palazzo  and more.

In the late 1800’s an influx of Italian immigrants created a Little Italy that wasn’t so little. Now, it is a bit smaller, with only a few thousand Italian-Americans calling Little Italy their home. However, the neighborhood has never lost its charm.

Stop by Umberto’s Clam House , or Il Cortile to have a delicious lunch or dinner. Try La Mela for family style Italian or Grotta Azzura for upscale Italian. Skip dessert and grab some great cannoli over at Ferrara Bakery and Café . Or enjoy a glass of wine and tiramisu at one of the many outdoor cafés.

* In an effort to stay current, we are constantly updating our tours with new locations and cannot guarantee the presence of locations mentioned on our site. If you have a particular interest in locations from a specific TV show or movie, please let your tour guide know and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

'In Conversation with the Sopranos' examines why we root for a murderer. See it in Phoenix

sopranos on tour

It’s been 16 years since Steve Schirripa filmed his final episode of “The Sopranos,” playing Bobby Baccallieri – or to those who knew him best and tuned in every Sunday, Bobby Bacala.

But like Silvio Dante quoting Michael Corleone from “The Godfather: Part III” before him, just when he thought he was out, they pull him back in.

In 2020, Schirripa launched a podcast called "Talking Sopranos" with his co-star Michael Imperioli, who played Tony Soprano’s impulsive "nephew," Christopher Moltisanti.

A year later, HarperCollins published a book the two co-hosts had written called “Woke Up This Morning: The Definitive Oral History of the Sopranos .”

Now, Schirripa and Imperioli are headed to Phoenix with Vincent Pastore, who played Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero, for "In Conversation with the Sopranos." A live show hosted by comedian Joey Kola in which the actors share their favorite anecdotes from the HBO series that continues to define them.

What is 'In Conversation with the Sopranos'?

“We've been doing it for years and it's evolved tremendously,” Schirripa says.

“We show clips from the show, the three of us. We answer questions and tell, all comedy-driven, funny, behind-the-scenes stories. Every show is different. Because it's kind of loose on stage. So things come up. And, you know, it's a lot of fun. It's very funny. We talk about how Paulie Walnuts, him and Grandpa Munster are the only two people in the world with that hairdo, so that kind of thing.”

They talk about James Gandolfini, the beloved star of “The Sopranos,” at length, although Schirripa calls him Jim, not James.

“We talk about how we got the jobs, our audition process, how we found out we were getting killed off and everything in between,” Schirripa says. “Michael tells some very funny stories. And then we do a Q&A with the audience. So if you ever want to ask the Sopranos something, that's your chance.”

How Sopranos cast members launched a podcast in a pandemic

Schirripa and Imperioli launched the podcast during the pandemic. Not on purpose, though.

“It just so happened that when we were starting, the pandemic hit almost exactly the same time,” he says. “Then we discovered Zoom.”

They went through all 86 episodes of “The Sopranos,” scene by scene, not only sharing their own memories but interviewing cast members, writers, producers, directors, stunt people, costume people and casting people.

“And was very, very, very successful,” he says.

“To our surprise, because we didn't know what the hell we were doing. And now it's on HBO Max. And we also have a New York Times bestseller, 'Woke up This Morning.' That all spun off from the podcast.”

'It was kind of a big thing': Fans recall Beach Boys' 1st Arizona State Fairgrounds show in 1964

Steve Schirripa had to watch 'The Sopranos' repeatedly for podcast

Neither one of them had watched the show since it went off the air, so there was a certain amount of getting reacquainted with the show involved.

“I used to watch it every Sunday night like everybody else,” Schirripa says.

He did the deepest of deep dives, rewatching each episode three times.

“Because listen, the fans know more about the show than I do,” he says, with a laugh. “I had forgotten so much. So I would watch it and take notes, watch it and take notes, stop, go, stop, go. Then, I would watch it for enjoyment before we went on the air. And it was fantastic. Fantastic.”

It was nothing like watching the show when it originally aired.

“When I was so close to it and shooting it, you know, you're worried about so many different things, right?” Schirripa says.

“I'm studying my lines. They’re gonna kill me off. What about this? What about that? All that crap. But now you look back from a distance. I'm also older, and I presume and hope and know I'm a better actor. I've become a better actor over the years with experience. But it was incredible.”

He found himself remembering lunch with Gandolfini and recalling where each individual scene was shot.

“I had also forgotten how funny the show was,” he says. “I mean, sometimes just flat-out hilarious. Also, I can't see anyone playing the roles except for the people who wound up playing the roles.”

Why 'The Sopranos' is such a big deal to this day

One thing that fascinates Schirripa is the thought that there's a whole new generation (or two) of “The Sopranos” fans.

“With streaming, there's more people watching the show now than watched it on Sunday nights when there was 11 million people had HBO back then,” he says.

“That is amazing. And now it's literally all over the world. When we did the podcast, we got Australia, UK, massive audiences. Saudi Arabia, Israel, on and on and on. There's kids that were too young to watch it, now they're in their late teens, in their 20s, and they're watching it and the show holds up as if it was written yesterday, except for the cars and the computers. Maybe the phones.”

It's a very complicated show,” he says. “It's not an easy, breezy show to watch and you go, ‘Oh this is great.’  On the surface? A bunch of wise guys in the strip club, they kill people. That's not it at all. It's a very smart, complicated show.”

'A lot of people see themselves' in Tony Soprano and Carmela

As to the enduring nature of the show’s appeal, Schirripa credits the fact that “the writing, first and foremost, is incredible,” but also the idea that a lot of people see themselves in these characters.

“Tony Soprano, yes, he was a murderer,” Schirripa says. “Bad guy. Did a lot of bad things to not just other mob guys. To innocent people, all right? Cheated on his wife, did drugs, gambled, killed people, ordered people killed.

"Yet? For some insane reason, the audience is rooting for this guy. The guy is basically a serial killer. And they're rooting for him, right? It was a show about a family. And I think it's a show about America and capitalism.”

He pointed to Tony’s wife, as played by the amazing Edie Falco.

“Carmela, she's religious, she goes to the priest, but yet she wants every ring, every fur coat. Edie Falco was brilliant. And Carmela was kind of a very manipulative, evil character. She didn't kill people. But she took and took and took and took, you know?”

He loves doing these "In Conversation with the Sopranos" events because they get to talk about these things but also because he gets to hang with his old castmates as though they’re outside the butcher shop sipping espresso with Tony again.

“We haven't had a clunker yet,” he says. “People go away happy. And that makes me happy. It really does. You see the response. People watch the show over and over. During the pandemic, it was like the No. 2 watched show. It's kind of a good feeling to be part of this. I didn't enjoy it as much doing it as when you step back from it 16 years later.”

Details: "In Conversation with the Sopranos" is at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix on Friday, Jan. 26, 2024. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at celebritytheatre.com .

The Sopranos  is easily one of the greatest television series of all time and helped to revolutionize the television landscape ever since its release in 1999.

Even though I was way too young to be watching that show while it was out, I would always find a way to watch it. And even though certain things would go over my head at times, I still knew I was watching greatness. My dad was a big fan of the show, so what I would do, I would sneak out of my room and quietly watch each episode from the hallway.

I remember one time in particular, I'm pretty sure I was in 2nd grade, and I went into school very depressed. My teacher took notice and pulled me aside to ask me how I was doing. I broke down into tears and told her how upset I was when Tony Soprano got shot . My teacher turned white and was so concerned that I was watching  The Sopranos  at my age!

I toured 'The Sopranos'' New Jersey. From the Bada Bing to the parking lot that used to be Satriale's, here's what I saw.

In honor of the hbo series' 25th anniversary, a reporter heads to new jersey to see its memorable filming locations..

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Although The Sopranos is one of my favorite TV shows, I have never had much desire to immerse myself in its New Jersey setting. Yet as someone who recently became more invested thanks to a few enticing TikToks, I knew I had to do something drastic to prove my commitment.

On Jan. 11, one day after the mob drama premiered 25 years ago on HBO , I boarded a bus in Manhattan with On Location Tours to experience the show's setting firsthand along with a few dozen other fans. Our guide peppered us with trivia — most of which I hadn’t heard before. When you watch a show decades after it first aired, you tend to miss out on fun facts about how the series was originally pitched as a movie , or that a certain cast member may or may not have been affiliated with the Colombo crime family.

We weaved through Manhattan’s garment district, once a hot spot for mob activity until the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act took things down a notch in 1970. After traversing the Lincoln Tunnel, we emerged in industrial New Jersey with views of construction sites, factories and waste dumps.

We first got off the bus outside the Paul Bunyan-esque statue that appears briefly in the opening credits. From there, you can see the facade of the building used as Barone Sanitation, the fictional waste management company that Tony claims as his legitimate job to stay out of trouble. We rarely see him there, though, because he’s got a “family” to run.

There’s something especially desolate about the Garden State in winter. There aren’t any trees to break up steady views of parking lots, barbed wire fences and trucker hot spots. Power lines litter the horizon, and we’re reminded that New Jersey was once infamous for its excess of garbage dumps.

We don’t get to see the stately mansion Tony comes home to at the end of the opening credits. According to the tour guide, it’s in a private community and the homeowners were getting annoyed by fans who would show up in their bathrobes to pretend to pick up a paper at the end of the driveway.

We then head to the suburbs of Kearny, passing a number of overpasses and waterways where various characters were “whacked” or buried. At one stop, we walked to the edge of the Passaic River. To the left we were treated to a view of the Newark skyline so we could see where Tony grew up. To the right, a bridge where a confused Junior Soprano (Dominic Chianese) was picked up by police.

In town, we passed the mob’s favorite “casino,” a room above a spa that has enough space to play cards; the church where Carmela dumps a perfectly good plate of ziti after seeing her priest flirting with another dispirited mob wife and the pizza joint where Anthony Jr. orders a pie unique enough to get him in trouble when it's left at a crime scene.

But where we should encounter Satriale’s pork store — which served as the meeting place for mob members throughout the series — only a parking lot remains.

Knowing that something central to the show's plot is no longer there made me emotional. In every episode, James Gandolfini delivers an unforgettable performance. Knowing that he died only six years after the show ended tugs at my heartstrings. Tony is hardly an anti-hero. He’s a bona fide villain who’s murdered several people with his bare hands, and he frequently cheats on his long-suffering wife. His list of sins grows every hour. But Gandolfini plays him with such tenderness that I feel a strange fondness for him. The show’s over and the actor is gone.

Next we stopped at Holsten’s in Bloomfield, N.J. That’s the diner where the show’s final scene was filmed. I ordered onion rings — Tony says they’re the best — and we took turns sitting in the booth where Tony sat with Carmela and his son when the screen suddenly turned to black, infuriating HBO viewers in that last episode in 2007. The charming eatery pays tribute to the show with photos of the cast and plenty of merchandise for sale.

“I haven’t seen the show, don’t tell me what happens,” a young man eating with his friends in a booth said to our tour group. I technically haven’t seen it in full either, but I don’t defend him when my fellow fans snicker.

In January, HBO announced the official Sopranos TikTok account would be uploading a 25-second clip of every episode of the show in honor of its 25th anniversary. The announcement got immediate backlash — fans urged people to “just watch the f***ing show” and condemned the “extremely short attention spans” of social media users that they assumed prompted this.

It’s clearly a marketing tactic; I know this because I would have fallen for it myself if someone’s compelling fan edit hadn’t tipped me over the edge to viewership months ago.

My tour guide John DeFilippo told me he thought the announcement of an official Sopranos TikTok account was a joke at first. The more he considered it, he realized the show is rife with one-liners and humor that still resonates.

“A lot of humor I see in meme culture is literally Sopranos humor,” he said. “I think a lot of people who are discovering it now are in their mid-20s, realizing that this old show is actually relevant to their humor, but they have to be exposed to it first.”

He said it’s not uncommon for new viewers to cement their fandom with a N.J. visit, but it’s also a pilgrimage for the show’s most die-hard fans.

At least two couples on my excursion traveled from the U.K. specifically to tour Sopranos filming locations. One couple, Paul and Jenny Carter, came from England to celebrate his 50th birthday.

"It’s just brilliant. The dialogue, the acting ... everything,” Paul said. “I don’t know how many times I’ve watched it. I come home from work and it’s just on in the background.”

Not everyone loves The Sopranos . When it aired, some said it negatively portrayed both Italian Americans and New Jersey . Before the show’s third season, its crew attempted to get a permit to shoot an episode in the state’s famous Pine Barrens, but it was denied by Essex County Executive James Treffinger, who said The Sopranos “depicts an ethnic group in stereotypical fashion.” That didn’t stop the crew from picking another similar-looking location to film and naming it “Pine Barrens” anyway. It’s considered to be one of the series’ best episodes.

The final stop on the tour — the Bada Bing — didn’t leave much to the imagination. Silvio Dante (Steve Van Zant) owns the fictional strip club that serves as a popular meeting hub. The Bing scenes are filmed at a real-life gentleman’s club, Satin Dolls. It’s still open decades later — including at 1 p.m. on a Thursday.

I wasn’t allowed to take photos inside the club, but it felt familiar, being the first place we visited that appeared regularly on The Sopranos . TVs played different sports-centric stations as several lingerie-clad dancers swayed to a Five Finger Death Punch song. Some of my tour mates ordered drinks, and our tour guide told us that we could get a lap dance as long as we got back to the bus on time. I left my wallet on board, so I spent a lot of time alone with my thoughts, eyeing peeling leather furniture.

Much of The Sopranos’ charm comes from the fact that its setting is rough around the edges. Tony and his companions might have millions to their names, but they had to have their business meetings in a smoky strip club back room. Tony might wake up to a lavish breakfast in a pristine mansion, but he’s got to commit a few crimes to sustain the lifestyle. The show lays bare the complexities of the mob life.

Though I learned more about the best places to dump bodies in New Jersey than the spots to get a fancy pasta dinner, the tour gave me a new appreciation for the series.

I’m now incapable of watching The Sopranos without spouting as much trivia as possible. And to celebrate my new fan status, I spent the entire weekend in mob wife attire baking Camela’s ziti recipe from The Sopranos Family Cookbook for my goombas . It was molto bene.

You no longer have to be the toughest guy in Essex County.

You don't have to be an interior decorator.

It's OK even if you aren't a made guy.

You can even be a happy wanderer.

Now anyone or any group (even a glorified crew) can visit the same area that your favorite North Jersey mafia family called their own.

The Sopranos Sites Tour, taking place Thursday and Saturday mornings, will take you on a tour of the iconic locations that the HBO series made famous 25 years ago.

The tour takes you through the same stomping grounds and neighborhoods the crew ran for years. You'll also get behind-the-scenes filming secrets and triva along the tour.

You'll want to grab a cigar as you drive the same rode the Skipper took during the opening credits.

You'll see the exact spot Salvatore Bonpensiero, better known as "Big Pus" turned informer when he was arrested.

You'll pay a visit of Barone Sanitation where you can easily made a pool that your coworkers can partake in.

You can stop by the Bada Bing. You'll never forget where you were at that minute! Just don't bring any toys, it's a place of business.

And you'll be able to take a seat at Holsten's Ice Cream, Chocolate and Restaurant the famous booth Tony Soprano was sitting in when he either met his untimely death in the final scene of the last episode, or he had a hamburger and went home with his family. (Don't tell me I'm wrong either way, you have no idea, it's never been proven how it ended!). Don't forget to get onion rings, best in the state as far as I'm concerned.

Sounds like they hit all the key spots, but if ya ask me, they should have stopped at Roy Rogers.

TOURS STOPS & DETAILS

  • Chevron down From Manhattan to “Sopranoland”

The tour begins in New York and starts out with sites as seen in the opening credits, including the exit of the Lincoln Tunnel and the famous Manhattan skyline. As you arrive in Jersey, you’ll see more sites including The Muffler Man, Pizza Land, a featured Tudor house, and the ramp to the Pulaski Skyway as seen at the end of every episode.

The tour then hits some more recognizable places: Barone Sanitation, the Skyway Diner, Big Pussy’s auto body shop, and Satin Dolls, also known as the Bada Bing.

The tour visits major sites that were used in filming the show such as Cozzarelli’s; Party Box (now unoccupied), Car Wash, Searchlight Diner and St. Cecilia’s Church, all of which were locations for major scenes as seen in the series.

Get off the bus for a fun stop at Holsten’s (where the final scene of the last episode was shot) and feel free to order some onion rings! Sit in “Tony’s” booth with your family for a nostalgic photo to share with friends.

Another major location, Satriale’s Pork Store, was a fictional establishment that was housed in an empty warehouse next to the Irish American Club in Kearny.  The set was dismantled after the filming of the series concluded, and the building was torn down to make way for condominiums, which never happened!

More filming locations include the Gold Driving Range, Harrison High School, Seabra’s Rodizio, the statue of Christopher Columbus, St. Cecilia’s, the Nuovo Vesuvio; and many, many more.

  • Chevron down You Gotta Eat…

During the tour, you’ll get the chance to eat at Holsten’s Diner. If you’d rather venture on your own after the tour, grab a bite to eat in the great Manhattan neighborhood of Little Italy.

Just follow the red, white, and green parking meters along Mulberry Street (between Grand and Canal streets) and you will find more Italian eateries than you could ever hope to visit in a single trip, like Amici II, Café Roma, Casa Bella, Lombardi’s, Fratelli, Caffe Sorrento, Il Palazzo, and more.

In the late 1800s, an influx of Italian immigrants created a Little Italy that wasn’t so little. Now, it is a bit smaller, with only a few thousand Italian-Americans calling Little Italy their home. However, the neighborhood has never lost its charm.

Stop by Umberto’s Clam House, or Il Cortile to have a delicious lunch or dinner. Try La Mela for family-style Italian or Grotta Azzura for upscale Italian. Skip dessert and grab some great cannolis over at Ferrara Bakery and Café, or enjoy a glass of wine and tiramisu at one of the many outdoor cafes.

Looking to let out your inner mob boss without actually breaking the law? Then these spots are for you.

As anticipation builds for “The Sopranos” prequel film, “The Many Saints of Newark,” out in theaters and on HBO Max Oct. 1, it’s the perfect moment to revisit the original series. And if you’re sick of sitting at home on your couch — who isn’t? — then another way to get reacquainted with Tony Soprano and his crew is to do an informal tour of all of their favorite spots.

Creator David Chase made it easy. Keeping in line with his vision of authenticity for the show, many locations from the original “Sopranos” are still existing places in both New York and New Jersey.

Yes, with a tank of gas and a mission, you can gaze upon the actual house that stood in for Tony’s home, or eat at the infamous restaurant from the long-debated finale .

Ready to channel your favorite fictional mafia don? Bada bing, bada boom.

Re-create the intro

Many landmarks filmed for "The Sopranos" intro are still around today, such as the "muffler man" outside Wilson's Carpet.

Let’s be honest, we’ve all cranked Alabama 3’s “Woke Up This Morning” while cruising the New Jersey Turnpike at some point or another.

But we haven’t necessarily driven Tony’s actual route. To see all the landmarks he so cinematically passes, enter the Lincoln Tunnel heading to the southbound turnpike (use the ticket machine in lieu of an E-ZPass if you’re truly committed), and continue until you see the famous “Drive Safely” Citgo container in Linden before heading for Jersey City via the Pulaski Skyway.

Satriale's was and still is a fan favorite setting for "The Sopranos."

As an added bonus, you’ll be passing over the set of Barone Sanitation — one of many businesses that provided a front for the family — at 275 Broadway on your way to the towering, carpet-clutching “muffler man” statue outside of Wilson’s Carpet at 220 Broadway.

Then, in Kearny, NJ, you can drive the parking lot that once was the set piece for Tony’s butcher hangout Satriale’s, at 101 Kearny Ave., before heading north to Pizza Land at 260 Belleville Turnpike in North Arlington, NJ.

This little pizza place in North Jersey was made famous from James Gandolfini.

After that, it’s a straight shot to Tony’s home in the suburbs of North Caldwell, NJ.

Check out Tony’s house

Perhaps the most famous home in New Jersey, you can drive up to see The Soprano house in North Caldwell.

Yes, the Soprano family mansion is a real house in a real cul-de-sac, and you can drive right up to the North Caldwell property.

Located at the top of a rock-sided hill, the iconic home has been used for “Sopranos” cast parties along with meet-and-greets for fans in its luxurious backyard, replete with the in-ground pool that served as a centerpiece for so many memorable scenes.

Tony Soprano's home looks just as luxurious in person as it did on TV.

Although much of the interior was just a set for the show, the actual home’s layout mirrors what millions of viewers have seen throughout the years — it’s owned by Victor and Patti Recchia, who put the property on the market in 2019 for $3.4 million. (It does not seem to have sold.)

When actor James Gandolfini, who played the role of Tony Soprano, died in 2013, someone brought a bag of ziti to the home, according to the New York Times .

14 Aspen Drive, North Caldwell, NJ . This is a private residence and can only be observed from the street.

Shop at Centanni’s meat market

Fun fact: Before the safe haven for the Soprano crime family was Satriale’s, this real Elizabeth, NJ, meat market was used in the pilot episode.

Owner Michael Centanni still has fun with the room where Christopher Moltisanti wasted Emil Kolar.

Centanni’s made its mark as the spot where Christopher Moltisanti (Michael Imperioli, 55) clipped trash-hauling rival Emil Kolar (Bruce Smolanoff) over business negotiations gone wrong. Its exterior appeared as the backdrop to some colorful exchanges as well.

Since Centanni’s was — and still is —  an active and bustling business, “The Sopranos” series couldn’t film continuously there, thus the set of Satriale’s was built.

Sorry to disappoint, but Satriale's was only a temporary set for "The Sopranos.'

Rest assured, Centanni’s carries “gabagool” and plenty of other Italian goods you can savor once you’re back home.

Take in the sights at the Bada Bing!

It’s hard to miss the “Home of the Original Bada Bing!” sign that stands proudly in front of Satin Dolls off I-80 in Lodi, NJ.

Yes, you can get a dance at the original Bada Bing!

The crown jewel of Silvio Dante (Steven Van Zandt, 70), that appeared consistently throughout the series, lives on to this day as an active strip joint where “Sopranos” fans can, er, reminisce on the show’s former set.

Along with the countless shots of topless women, scenes filmed at the Bada Bing! often showed employee Georgie Santorelli (Frank Santorelli) getting beaten up in some form or another throughout the six seasons.

In Season 5’s “Irregular Around the Margins,” Christopher Moltisanti drunkenly stormed into the Bing and threatened to shoot Tony after hearing a rumor Soprano fooled around with his fiancée Adriana La Cerva (Drea de Matteo, 49).

Silvio Dante was also shot into a coma in the jiggle joint’s parking lot in the series’ infamous second to last episode, “Blue Comet.”

Grab a drink at the New York crew’s hangout

Also used as a set for “The Godfather: Part III” and “Donnie Brasco,” lower Manhattan’s Mulberry Street Bar served as the Averna Social Club in “The Sopranos” — better known as the New York crew’s home base.

Mulberry Street Bar has been featured in many mob films as well as "The Sopranos."

Featured throughout the series, this is the watering hole where Tony would have backroom sit-downs with high-ranking member Johnny Sack (Vincent Curatola, 68) and boss Carmine Lupertazzi (Tony Lip) to hash out business at hand.

It’s also the location where Phil Leotardo (Frank Vincent) decided to “decapitate” the Soprano crime family — by going after Tony himself — in “Blue Comet.”

Mulberry Street Bar has since been renovated, but still proudly lays claim to its cinematic history with a list of films and shows that have been shot there displayed on the wall. Nowadays, it features a pleasant curbside dining setup as well.

Hike through the Pine Barrens

Unlike Christopher and Paulie, bring more than ketchup and relish packets to snack on as you walk through the Pine Barrens.

Arguably the most hilarious episode of “The Sopranos” is called “Pine Barrens,” after a real nature preserve in South Jersey. It was where Christopher Moltisanti and Paulie “Walnuts” Gualtieri (Tony Sirico, 79) got helplessly lost in the dead of winter after an interior decorator who killed 16 Czechoslovakians ran off.

Although the Season 3 standout was actually filmed at Harriman State Park in New York’s Rockland and Orange Counties, the real Pine Barrens preserve in the wilderness around Hammonton, NJ, is a favorite of locals and offers a fun, outdoorsy escape into the woods with safely marked trails.

Get yourself a treat at Applegate Farm

Fans will remember this roadside joint from the Season 6 episode “Chasing It,” where Phil Leotardo took Vito Jr. — son of Vito Spatafore (Joseph Gannascoli, 62) — out for ice cream. There, he chewed out his former associate’s son for acting out after his father’s murder (ordered by none other than Leotardo himself.)

Not far from Holsten's Applegate Farm is known for its crafty and scrumptious ice cream.

Although young Vito’s “silo” ice cream concoction — a massive cup of different flavors, topped with whipped cream and syrup — was a limited-time promotion, Montclair’s Applegate Farms has a well-earned reputation for offering some of North Jersey’s best ice cream and shakes, such as a frozen campfire s’mores blend.

Ice cream cakes, pies, apple cider donuts, chocolates and banana splits are also offered at Applegate — without the company of an angry old mafia captain.

Stroll below the Brooklyn Bridge

Whenever Tony would meet Johnny Sack by the Brooklyn Bridge, serious business would go down.

Whenever Tony needed a covert meeting with New York’s Johnny Sack, they would trek out to the desolate area around the Brooklyn Bridge, such as in Season 4’s “The Strong, Silent Type,” when Sack confronts Soprano over the Jersey crew keeping New York out of its housing-appraisal scam.

Of course, at the time of filming, in the early 2000s, the undeveloped beachfront near DUMBO was much less conspicuous than the row of restaurants, carousel and ferry station that now make up the area surrounding Empire-Fulton Ferry park today.

Nowadays, it's a little difficult to have covert mob meeting by the Brooklyn Bridge as the area is now a tourist hotspot.

It might be swarmed with tourists taking selfies nowadays, but the Brooklyn Bridge waterfront still has its spot in “Sopranos” history.

Enjoy the ocean breeze at the Asbury Park boardwalk

Not far from fellow boss Bruce Springsteen’s hometown of Long Branch, this Jersey Shore boardwalk appeared in Tony’s dreams and flashbacks whenever something was going seriously awry.

Some of Tony's most important flashbacks happened at this Jersey shore boardwalk.

It most notably showed up in Season 2’s finale, “Funhouse,” when Soprano comes to the realization that his dear friend Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero (Vincent Pastore, 75) was wearing a wire and working with the feds, thus leading to the big guy’s demise at sea not long after.

The Asbury Park boardwalk reappeared in Season 3’s “To Save Us All From Satan’s Power,” when Tony reminisces about Bonpensiero as the crew realizes they need a replacement to play Santa Claus at Satriale’s at Christmastime. The job was delegated to gentle giant Bobby “Bacala” Baccalieri (Steve Schirripa, 64).

Outside of “The Sopranos,” the Asbury Park boardwalk is known for its beachside attractions such as the Stone Pony rock club and the the Wonder Bar.

Hole up at Holsten’s

This North Jersey confectionery only appeared for four-and-a-half minutes in “The Sopranos” — but it was the most important 270 seconds of the entire show.

Holsten's more than prides itself for being a pivotal piece of "The Sopranos."

The famous setting for the series finale (and now prequel film) gave David Chase’s audience its final glimpse of Tony Soprano before an abrupt, 11 second cut to black that rocked the television world .

Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin,’” a song chosen by Chase due to his crew’s distaste for it , echoes throughout the restaurant as Tony, son AJ and wife Carmela feast on a last supper of onion rings, just as Meadow struggles to parallel park outside, and while a mysterious man in the “Members Only” jacket leaves the counter to enter the bathroom.

The ending of "Made In America" still sparks controversy to this day.

Today, the Soprano family table (third row on the middle left) remains intact, for hungry diners to marvel at and take pictures with their onion rings, burgers and ice cream sundaes that the restaurant is also known for.

You can sit in the Tony Soprano booth in Holsten's and order onion rings for the table -- the best in the state according to Soprano.

Holsten’s walls are also filled with behind-the-scenes photographs from when the show was filmed, and they sell plenty of “Sopranos” merchandise to take home.

If you struggle with parallel parking like Meadow, rest assured that there’s a parking lot adjacent to Holsten’s.

Newly Discovered Video Brings Tony Soprano Back to Life — But We Have Questions

By Alan Sepinwall

Alan Sepinwall

Now everyone knows that Tony Soprano was last seen in a booth at Holsten’s ice cream parlor on June 10, 2007. But what a 14-year-old video that just got released to the public this morning presupposes is… maybe he wasn’t?

In 2010, NBA superstar LeBron James was entering free agency for the first time in his legendary career, and the New York Knicks were one of several teams with dreams of signing him. Knicks executives put together what they thought would be a surefire recruitment plan, centered on a video where various New York celebrities pitched LeBron on coming to play at Madison Square Garden. As legend had it, two of those celebrities were The Sopranos stars James Gandolfini and Edie Falco , who got back into character as Tony and Carmela one last time.

This part of the video raises many more questions than it answers:

1. Why would Gandolfini — a die-hard Knicks fan who talked his old co-star into appearing with him and who conceived the idea for the scene — think that the best premise would be for Tony and Carmela to now be in the witness protection program?

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

3. How exactly does Tony know LeBron James well enough to help him find a place to move to in the city? In the penultimate Sopranos episode, we saw him briefly chat up then-Jets coach Eric Mangini, but that’s a local sports figure, not one of the most famous people in the world, who at the time lived and worked in Ohio.

4. Why would the Knicks choose two characters so closely associated with New Jersey — at a time when a different NBA franchise, the Nets, still played in the Garden State — as part of a pitch for LeBron to come to the Big Apple?

5. Most importantly, what does this mean for the never-ending debate about whether Tony died when The Sopranos cut to black at the end of that last episode?

Drea de Matteo Is Shocked That People Like Her 'Granny Porn,' Dreams of Hosting Daytime Talk Show

The 2023 emmys was very confusing and very nostalgic, how to watch 'the sopranos' online: stream the complete series free, trump privately rages about his sketch artist, courtroom nap reports, pink files legal action against pharrell williams over musician's proposed p.inc. trademark, come for the torture, stay for the poetry: this might be taylor swift's most personal album yet, trump's super pac has been footing his legal bills. now it's running out of money.

Sure, the Knicks’ video is a calamity on almost every level, with appearances by Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani, Alec Baldwin, and Harvey Weinstein, among others. And, sure, Gandolfini is playing the SNL sketch version of Tony rather than getting deep into character here. (Falco, on the other hand, slips effortlessly back into Carmela because that’s just how she’s built.) But given that Jim died only a few years after the video was made, there’s something poignant about this lost performance — and this final, if unofficial, Tony and Carmela scene — finally seeing the light of day.

On their way to becoming a global household name,  AMERICA 's journey found them exploring a wide variety of musical terrain. Their best-known tunes, which also include "I Need You," "Ventura Highway," "Don't Cross The River," "Tin Man," "Lonely People," and "Sister Golden Hair" were cornerstones of 1970's Top 40 and FM rock radio. Yet beyond their impressive catalog of hits, listeners would discover there was always much more to  AMERICA  than surface perceptions. The combination of melodic pop rock and folk-jazz elements, slinky Latin-leaning rhythms and impressionistic lyric imagery contrasted well with other more traditional country-rock leanings and highly personal lyrics.

AMERICA 's albums--six certified gold and/or platinum, with their first greatest hits collection, History, hitting four plus million in sales--displayed a fuller range of the trio's talents than did their singles. Their material encompassed an ambitious artistic swath; from effects-laden rockers to oddball medleys to soul-bearing ballads,  AMERICA  displayed a flawless blend of disparate genres and styles as wide-open as the great American plains.

Enjoying massive success early in their career,  AMERICA  earned their stripes as musical soldiers on the battlefield amidst the excess, craziness, and chaos of the 70's. The trio won the Grammy for Best New Artist in 1972 and began working with  George Martin  and  Geoff Emerick  in 1974. This successful team went on to record seven albums and several Top Ten hits, including "Tin Man," "Sister Golden Hair" and "Lonely People."

Their growth as singers, songwriters and musicians has continued into the present day as illustrated by landmark releases such as 2000's Highway 3-disc box set, 2002's Holiday Harmony, an album comprised of seasonal classics and live showcases, 2007's Here & Now, 2009's Live In Concert: Wildwood Springs, 2011's Back Pages, and 2015's Lost And Found and America: Archives Vol. 1.

In 2020, the band released their ultimate 8-disc anniversary box set, Half Century (America Records), and streamed their concert special America--Live at the London Palladium for the very first time (it is commercially available as a DVD and CD). 2020 also saw the release of the book “America, the Band, An Authorized Biography” by journalist Jude Warne. She weaves original interviews with the band and many others into a dynamic cultural history of  AMERICA , the band, and America, the nation. Billy Bob Thornton wrote the foreword.

As further testament to the band’s staying power and influence,  AMERICA ’s recordings have been licensed for a multitude of placements in films (including American Hustle, The Nice Guys, The Last Unicorn and Girl Most Likely), television shows (among them The Sopranos, Friends, Breaking Bad and Saturday Night Live) and video games (including Grand Theft Auto). See their Soundtrack credits on IMDB here:  http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2085638/

From their formative years,  AMERICA  has been a band capable of transcending borders with its uplifting music and positive message. Embracing a rainbow of divergent cultures, America's audiences continue to grow, comprising a loyal legion of first, second and third generation fans, all bearing testament to the group's enduring appeal.
