Caleb McLaughlin Shares New Single ‘Soul Travel’

The actor/singer stars in netflix's hit show, "stranger things.".

Caleb McLaughlin Soul Travel

Caleb McLaughlin could not have timed his return to music more perfectly. After taking a woozy stroll through the “Neighborhood” on his debut single, the emerging singer/actor has shared “Soul Travel.” It arrived ahead of the season four premiere of Netflix ‘s Stranger Things , in which he stars as Lucas Sinclair .

On “Soul Travel,” produced by Rashad Thomas, the 20-year-old crooner doesn’t fall back on the slower tempo from his last single.

He surprises with a light vocal that sounds like an irrefutable reference to a young Omarion in some parts. The choppy dance beat is well structured around his sound, as he sings about taking endless rendezvouses with a special someone.

McLaughlin releases an accompanying music video for “Soul Travel.” The visual, shot primarily at night, follow him and his beautiful sidekick exploring different scenes. The front-passenger seat gets its share of varied riders, while McLaughlin also enjoys time in the backseat.

Other scenes consist of party zones captured in different lighting. You can watch the video in full above.

“Soul Travel” is McLaughlin’s second single. Both “Neighborhood” and “Soul Travel” will appear on his forthcoming untitled EP, slated to release later this year.

Beyond winning awards for his role in Stranger Things , McLaughlin made more strides in acting last year when he joined acclaimed multi-hyphenate Idris Elba in Netflix’s original film Concrete Cowboy .

Listen to Caleb McLaughlin’s new song “Soul Travel” below.

soul travel song

Meaning of Soul Travel by Caleb McLaughlin

The song "Soul Travel" by Caleb McLaughlin is about the desire to escape with someone special. The lyrics suggest that the protagonist wants to escape the mundane routine of life and go on an adventure with their loved one. The song speaks to feeling stuck in a certain place or situation and wanting to break free from it to experience something new with someone he cares about.

The chorus of the song repeats, "Go away, you and I, can we just go away?" This repetition emphasizes the theme of escape and wanting to be alone with his loved one. The protagonist seems to have had enough of their current situation and wants to leave everything behind and start anew.

In the first verse, the protagonist creates a rocket to travel away from their current location. This shows how desperate he is to leave and how important it is for him to be with his loved one. They feel surrounded by something, which can be interpreted as problems or stress in their life. But now that he has found his loved one, he doesn't want to leave without her.

The pre-chorus expresses the desire to be with someone who understands and feels the same way. The protagonist is all in his head and needs someone to chill with, someone who knows what he's feeling. They are thinking so much about their loved one that it's all they can focus on.

The post-chorus talks about not being able to take back time. Time is ticking and it's important to make the most of the present moment. The line "wake up and smell the flowers, tomorrow, do it all again" suggests that the protagonist wants to appreciate the present moment and make the most of it before it's gone.

Overall, "Soul Travel" is about escaping the mundane routine of everyday life and going on an adventure with someone you love. It speaks to the need for change and experiencing new things with someone special.

Caleb McLaughlin Releases New Song "Soul Travel" and Talks 'Stranger Things' Coming to an End

The actor opened up about his new song and music video for "Soul Travel," making music, and what it means for him that 'Stranger Things' is coming to an end.

Caleb McLaughlin has played Lucas Sinclair on Stranger Things since 2016. Season 4 of the hit Netflix series is returning this month and the actor, who is now 20-years-old, is also entering a new phase of his career. Aside from acting, McLaughlin is also a well-rounded artist who produces, sings, and writes his own music, and his latest song “Soul Travel,” as well as the music video, is dropping on Friday, May 6. The song showcases his evolution from child star into adulthood and marks the next chapter of his life as an artist. McLaughlin produced his latest track and is releasing it independently as the lead single from his upcoming EP. The project will also be self-released, as a way to take full control of his craft and not be behind a massive powerhouse like he has been since he was a child through Netflix.

Stranger Things is making its long-awaited return on Friday, May 27, and the show’s creators Matt and Ross Duffer announced that Season 5 will be the final season of the Netflix series, which debuted in 2016. McLaughlin has played the role since he was a teenager and fans have watched him grow up on the show. He has worked on other films since and is already currently working on new projects, but McLaughlin tells Complex that music has always been his creative outlet and said he feels that it’s his “calling.” We caught up with the actor via email to chat about his new song “Soul Travel,” the inspiration for his music, and what it means to see his Stranger Things chapter coming to an end.

Caleb McLaughlin new song Soul Travel

Congratulations on the new single, Caleb. How does it feel to know people are about to listen to “Soul Travel”?

Caleb McLaughlin: It’s so special to me that the world gets to finally hear “Soul Travel.”  It’s a fun song, but also means a lot to me. “Soul Travel” is more than just a song. It’s a love story and a film. I also want people to know that I’m not just an actor who enjoys music, this is a spiritual thing for me. I never wanted to just be an artist and be in the industry,  I’ve wanted to be a lot of different things but this is my calling.

You produced this track and are releasing it on your own. Who are some of your musical influences that have not only inspired your sound but also to take full control of your music?

CM: I really put my feet into my music, I have a say in how I want my music to sound and where I want it to go which is great. I also helped produce and write all my music with my producer RASHAD. I can’t say a specific artist inspired or influenced “Soul Travel.”

You released “Neighborhood” in 2021. How is this new song different from that and how have you grown as an artist in the last year?

CM: I’ve grown a lot as an artist and as a creative in the last year just from continuing to always learn and spending more and more time in the studio. “Soul Travel” was actually done first before “Neighborhood.” There’s a story to each song I drop. “Neighborhood” is a different level from where “Soul Travel” is, which is like how my life is right now. My life has so many levels because I feel like I have to mature faster than the average person. “Neighborhood” tells the story of a teenager meeting a girl and bringing her to my neighborhood, and then in “Soul Travel” I am talking about going away, while driving away in the video. It’s meant to show how fast my life is moving.

Do you feel like music is giving you the freedom to express yourself creatively?

CM: 100 percent. People may know me as an actor first where I portray other people and all these different characters, but this time this is Caleb. The music is my own thoughts and allows me to have full creative expression.

Stranger Things Caleb Interview

Fans have watched you grow up on TV since you were so young and now you’re making the transition into music. Was music always part of the plan and did you always know you’d be pursuing it?

CM: Music has always been an important part of me. It just happened. I’ve sung, danced, and performed on stage most of my life so it was always just a part of me. Music has always been my baby and I take it personally. The more involved I get in my craft, the more I feel like I have become more serious about it over the years.

The world has known you as Lucas from Stranger Things for so long. How are you feeling now that the show is coming to an end?

CM: Everything great always comes to end!  So far this has been such an incredible journey and I’m so happy with what we’ve been able to accomplish.

What can you tell us about the new season of Stranger Things and what fans might learn about Lucas’ journey?

CM: Lucas has evolved so much. You’ll see Lucas’ maturity, but you’ll also see that he is a lost teenager just trying to figure it all out. Lucas has always believed in being there for his friends and you’ll see that a lot this season. I love Lucas and seeing him grow and learn new things about himself. This season I had to take it to a different level in my acting and think deeply about how I wanted people to see him this season. He has some vulnerable moments this season that you’ll get to see.

We’ve seen you in films like Concrete Cowboy and you’re going to be in Demon House , what kind of roles will you be pursuing going forward?

CM: I’m on set filming as we speak. I can’t really talk about it right now but it is going to be a dope and classic project—it will definitely be something people will look forward to seeing. I’m working a lot right now and focusing heavily on my music as well. Everything is good.

What would you want your fans to know about you now that you’re entering a new stage of your life and your career?

CM: I am trying to be the best man, person, and man of God I can be – spiritually, mentally, and physically. I am following my dreams and not letting anyone get in the way or worrying about their opinions. I am trying to make not only myself happy, but also the ones I love.

Check out the music video for “Soul Travel” above and watch Season 4 of  Stranger Things on Netflix on May 27.

Top 6 Tunes That Will Help Your Soul Travel

Written by Shobhangi Rudra.

“ Let the waters settle and you will see the moon and the stars mirrored in your own being .”

— Rumi

Rumi, a poet who is so close to my heart, always surpasses my expectations. Travelling needs a calm mind and an open heart. We need to accept our surroundings with humility. Music is one such art form that connects our soul with a place, person or time. The songs listed below may help to develop that soulful connection. Let’s march to the tunes of these travel tracks.

1. “Photograph” by Ed Sheeran

One of the most effective ways to preserve your memories is the pictures we click or the videos we shoot while making those memories.  The lyrics of this track provides meaning to the entire concept of travelling.

We make memories, we keep those memories preserved in photographs .“Photograph” is a song about the unique struggles of long-distance relationships. Sheeran urges his partner to look at a photograph of the two of them when things get tough and remember the good times. The harmonious tune of the track makes it a soulful option to listen to while one is travelling.

512px-Ed_Sheeran_(8508826072)

2. “The Long Road” by Eddie Vedder and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

Eat pray love is one of the most acclaimed travel movies of all time. It covers the journey of a woman who is out to find her own self. With the input of an Indian singer, this song makes it to the perfect travel playlist.

“Will I walk the long road? We all walk the long road”

These two lines are my most favourite lines from the song. The feeling of loneliness is absent while we are travelling. We are so busy creating happiness and memories that we tend to forget our problems and issues. All of these precious moments won’t last forever but that is exactly what adds to the beauty of these memories. If they were to go on forever, when would we create new memories?

Moments are never perfect. They are meant to be flawed but then these flaws are what makes a moment worth remembering. Imperfectly perfect moments are a part of every beautiful journey, every momentous travel journey. Go out and find yourself. Explore the facets of your personality that were in dark due to the constant stress, pain and pressure of your daily mundane life.

EddieVedder

3. “Take me home, country road” by John Denver

Take me home denotes the feeling of homesickness. Denver sets the scene of his “almost heaven”, describing the scenic beauty of West Virginia and the various beautiful landscapes it has to offer .this song, although dedicated to West Virginia, can be taken up for any journey. It interprets how the singer is missing his home among the mountains and how the radio is making him more homesick. The love for a particular place transcends all boundaries thus making it a perfect travel tune. We all feel what the singer tries to tell us through these words. Home is where we find solace. Through this song, we travel through the beautiful Landscape of the singer’s home town .we feel the cool hills and the warm sunshine from the comfort of our own home.

4. “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd

“Sweet home Alabama where the skies are so blueSweet home AlabamaLord, I’m coming home to you”

The song originally is an answer for racism. It speaks up against racism. Just like the song by John Denver, this song focuses on showing the people the real beauty of Alabama. Again, even though it is dedicated to a specific place, this song is a very good travel tune. The rhythmic tune of the guitar and the lyrics add up to the beauty of the song, making this classic a famous travel song.

1024px-Hellfest2019LynyrdSkynyrd_10

5. “Hey there Delilah” by Plain White T’s

This song is particularly very close to my heart. A song ahead of its time, this track is dedicated to an individual named Delilah who lives in the Urban New York City. Indicating towards a long-distance relationship, this song provides every lover a small tinge of hope that one day everything will fall in place.

“A thousand miles seems pretty far

But they’ve got planes and trains and cars

I’d walk to you if I had no other way

Our friends would all make fun of us

And we’d just laugh along because we’d know

That none of them have felt this way ”

Although this track is not a dedicated travel tune, the slow rhythmic guitar and the and Higgenson’s soothing voice makes it worth a listen while you are on a journey to explore the unknown.

Plain White Ts at The Grove

6. “Hymn for the Weekend” by Coldplay

The entire song is shot in The bylanes of India. India, also known as the land of various cultures and religious harmony, adds the additional effect to the track.

“Hymn for the Weekend” by Coldplay is about finding the ability to do awesome things together with someone whose impact in your life verges on the “angelic.”

This track is from Coldplay’s noted album “A Head Full of Dreams”. And it was released as the second single from that project, by Parlophone and Atlantic Records, on 25 January 2016.

Music takes you places, places where we have never been to. Music heals a soul and helps us connect with a place. Travelling helps you to identify your own self. It opens up new facets of your personality that were hidden for so long . Since, both of these elements help us understand who we actually are and what we are actually feeling, it is safe to say that travelling and music are some of the basic prerequisites of a happy soul and a content heart.

Table of Contents

1. Roads Go Ever On , Clamavi De Profundis

“ The Road goes ever on and on, down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, and I must follow, if I can. ”

Let’s begin with a song inspired by poems written by J. R. R. Tolkien for his Middle Earth stories.

According to Clamavi De Profundis, “ This is a compilation of poems that J.R.R. Tolkein wrote throughout his books: the first stanza coming from The Fellowship of the Ring, the middle two stanzas from The Hobbit, and the last from the Return of the King. We took a creative approach to this, sort of weaving in the tale of Bilbo, since it is he around whom most of this text is centered. ”

2. Anywhere , Rita Ora

“ Over the hills and far away, a million miles from L.A. Just anywhere away with you. I know we've got to get away someplace where no one knows our name. We'll find the start of something new. ”

First released in 2018, this upbeat song is an awesome addition to your travel playlist.

The narrator is tired of seeing the same old city and wishes to get away with her beloved. The destination isn’t important, she just wants them to be together, wherever they end up going.

3. The City of New Orleans , Arlo Guthrie

“ Nighttime on the City of New Orleans. Changing cars in Memphis, Tennessee. Halfway home, we'll be there by morning. Through the Mississippi darkness, rolling down to the sea. ”

Here’s a song that evokes feelings nostalgia for the old times, when people weren’t always in a hurry and everything seemed simpler.

The song is an ode to train travel, which began to disappear from America toward the end of the 20 th century.

There was an actual train called City of New Orleans that made trips between Chicago and Louisiana. Steve Goodman, who composed the song, was a passenger on the train on its last journey before it was decommissioned.

4. Roam , The B-52’s

“ Roam if you want to. Roam around the world. Roam if you want to. Without anything but the love we feel. ”

Need a happy song to keep the vibe cheerful during your travels? Here’s a song that urges you to get out there and check out what the world has to offer.

5. Traveling On , Kongos

“ So long, my flame, my warmth, my fear, my fight. The road's calling again tonight. Maybe I'll catch a train to Rome. See the world until I can't go on. Or maybe I'll come traveling home. ”

Here’s a song about being unable to resist wanderlust. One must answer the call to travel and leave everything else behind.

6. Wanderlust , Frank Turner

“ Darling, I'm leaving. The distance keeps calling me on. Darling, come morning, I'll be gone. ”

Here’s another song that pays tribute to wanderlust. This song from Frank Turner is about a man who can’t resist the call of the road, saying goodbye in advance to his lover, telling her it’s most likely he’ll be gone by morning.

7. Good Life , OneRepublic

“ To my friends in New York, I say hello. My friends in L.A., they don't know where I've been for the past few years or so. Paris to China to Colorado. ”

This song is about meeting friends in different parts of the world. It’s a celebration of the freedom to constantly travel in order to grow and learn.
