Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card review: A top travel card with a generous welcome bonus

A travel rewards card can help you pay for your next vacation and even reduce some of the stress associated with travel. With the Capital One Venture Rewards card , you can earn valuable rewards on your purchases, plus the card offers perks like auto rental coverage and travel accident insurance.

Capital One Venture Rewards card

Annual fee : $95

Welcome offer : 75,000 bonus miles if you spend $4,000 on purchases within three months of account opening

2x miles per $1 spent

5x miles per $1 spent on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel

Recommended credit score : Good to Excellent (670 – 850)

The Capital One Venture Rewards card has an annual fee of $95.

Welcome offer

If you spend at least $4,000 on purchases within three months of account opening, you'll qualify for 75,000 bonus miles. If you redeem those miles for travel through Capital One Travel, statement credits, or gift cards, that bonus could be worth $750 — a higher-than-usual bonus value for a card with a relatively low $95 annual fee.

Related: Here are the best credit card offers currently available

Intro offer

The Venture Rewards card doesn't offer an introductory APR on purchases or balance transfers.

Rewards rate

With the Capital One Venture Rewards card , you can earn the following rewards:

Two miles per $1 spent on every purchase

Five miles per $1 spent on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel

How to earn rewards

The Capital One Venture Rewards card has a relatively simple rewards structure. You'll earn the highest rewards rate — five miles per $1 spent — on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, but you'll earn a flat two miles per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Here is how much you could earn in rewards if you spent $5,000 with your card:

Although the value of your miles may vary based on your redemption method, 16,000 miles could be worth as much as $160.

How to redeem rewards

You can redeem your miles in the following ways:

Transfer miles to loyalty programs: You can transfer your miles to one of Capital One's 15 loyalty program partners, such as British Airways Avios, Emirates Skywards, or Air Canada Aeroplan.

Redeem for gift cards: Redeem your miles for gift cards to major retailers and merchants.

Capital One Travel: You can redeem your miles for flights, hotel reservations, and car rentals through Capital One Travel.

Cash: Redeem your miles for statement credits, or request a check.

Amazon.com: You can also use your miles to pay for some or all of your purchase through Amazon.com.

PayPal: Through PayPal, you can redeem your miles at checkout on purchases from major retailers.

In general, your miles are worth one cent each, but certain redemption methods, such as redeeming your miles at checkout with certain retailers, may give you less value.

Additional benefits

There are several added benefits you can take advantage of with your Capital One Venture Rewards card:

Hertz Five Star Status: As a card member, you qualify for Hertz Five Star Status. You can skip the rental counter, and you can choose from a wider selection of car thanks to your status.

Fee credit for TSA PreCheck and Global Entry: Receive a $100 statement credit to cover some of your fees for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry.

Auto rental damage collision waiver: If you turn down the rental car company's coverage and use the Venture Rewards card to cover the cost of your reservation, you're automatically covered against theft or damages.

Travel accident insurance: Purchase your fare with your card, and you will be covered by accident insurance at no added cost.

Who is the Capital One Venture Rewards card best for?

If you love to travel, but want to avoid the hassle of keeping track of bonus spending categories or different rewards rates, the Capital One Venture Rewards card may be for you. You'll earn a higher rewards rate on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, and a simple, flat rewards rate on all other purchases.

Capital One Venture Rewards card pros

No foreign transaction fees: The card doesn't charge foreign transaction fees , so you can use it for purchases outside the U.S. without incurring added fees.

Simple rewards structure: Instead of a complex rewards structure, you'll earn a flat two miles per $1 spent on every purchase.

Generous new cardmember bonus: For a card with a fairly low annual fee of $95, the new cardmember offer is surprisingly generous. You can earn 75,000 miles if you spend $4,000 within three months of opening an account — a $750 value.

Capital One Venture Rewards cons

Limited travel benefits: Although the card has some travel benefits, it lacks common coverages like travel interruption/cancellation insurance or baggage delay reimbursement.

No promotional APR on purchases: The card doesn't offer a promotional APR on purchases or balance transfers. However, there are other cards with generous introductory APRs, which allow you to pay off your dream vacation without worrying about interest charges.

Alternative cards to consider

If the Capital One Venture Rewards card isn't right for you, consider these alternative travel rewards cards:

Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card

Why we like it : The Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus card has a lower annual fee than the Capital One Venture Rewards card, and it includes some perks that the Venture Rewards card doesn't. With this card, you can take advantage of lost luggage reimbursement, baggage delay insurance, and two free EarlyBird check-ins each year.

Recommended credit score: Good to Excellent (670 – 850)

Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

Why we like it : Although the Chase Sapphire Preferred card has the same annual fee as the Capital One Venture Rewards card — $95 — it offers some extra perks and benefits. With this card, you're backed by travel cancellation or interruption insurance, auto rental collision damage waiver, and trip delay reimbursement.

Capital One VentureOne Rewards Credit Card

Why we like it : For those looking for a card that offers rewards and travel benefits without an annual fee, the VentureOne Rewards card could be a useful alternative. Plus, it has a generous introductory APR, giving you ample time to pay off your trip or major purchase without interest.

‘I have a bachelor’s and this job pays more than my job’: Worker says Capital One offers remote job that pays $74-84k without requiring degree

‘this is literally my dream job.’.

TikToker and stay-at-home mom Grace Waterman (@momsthatworkfromhome) has shared an opening for a remote position at Capital One with a $74,000 to $84,000 salary and allegedly no college degree requirement.

In the video, Grave details that the job posting is for a Velocity Black Travel Specialist, whose responsibilities would include assisting clients in booking travel (commercial flights, hotels, vacation homes, and car rentals); using an online travel tool called Global Distribution System (GDS) to book and communicate with suppliers; and working with international suppliers to get the best rates, perks, and services on the market.

Grace continues, “Ideally, they’re looking for someone who has experience in a travel agency  so if you’ve booked travel for clients before, you’re already one step ahead.”

Other qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, at least one year of work experience at a travel agency, the ability to work in a high-pressure environment with tight deadlines, and availability to work evenings and weekends.

“For someone who doesn’t have a college degree and the starting pay is $74k, that’s $35 an hour and that’s amazing in my opinion. And you’re also working from home, so that’s a plus,” Grace concludes.

The video had 10.7 million views and 6,070 comments as of Sunday.

@momsthatworkfromhome Make sure youre following so you don’t miss any job postings #wfh #sahm #sahwfhm #workfromhome #workfromhomejobs #stayathomemom #capitalone #stayathome #stayathomejobs #wfhjobs #sahjobs #remotework #remotejobs #remote ♬ original sound – Grace Waterman

While some viewers seemed quite excited by the position, others claimed there is more to consider when applying for work-from-home jobs .

“It’s competitive and requires you to talk a LOT,” one person commented.

“They’ll also rate you against your coworkers brutally in 360 feedback. People can say what they want about your performance unchecked. Good luck!” another commenter shared.

Additionally, there were claims of pre-hire credit checks. “Don’t know if this changed from 3 years ago but here in Nevada [Capital One] pulls your credit report before they hire you,” one user added.

Other viewers lamented that the position was already removed from the Capital One website by the time they tried to apply, suggesting a fast-moving window of opportunity for remote job postings that is easy to miss.

While positions like the Travel Specialist may go as quickly as they come, Grace has got job seekers covered. Her TikTok account, which boasts over 219,000 followers, is dedicated to sharing work-from-home job opportunities, college scholarships, and interview and resume advice for work-from-home hopefuls.

Her followers are more than grateful “Thank you so much for using your platform to help others as well as yourself! Real humble. Respect madam,” one user commented.

The Daily Dot reached out to Grace via Instagram direct message and Capital One via email.

Capital One Venture Rewards vs. Wells Fargo Autograph Journey: Which $95 card is better?

Ryan Wilcox

The mid-tier travel rewards card space is a cramped one. One of the best options on the market is the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card , which offers great value to the average traveler with just a $95 annual fee (see rates and fees ). It racks up 2 miles per dollar spent on all purchases and comes with a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit of up to $100.

But there's a new kid on the block: the recently launched Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ Card (see rates and fees ). It also has a $95 annual fee, plus valuable earning rates and benefits that make it a serious competitor to the more established Venture card.

Which is the better option for you now, and which will be the better option going forward? Let's dig into the cards' details to find out.

Capital One Venture Rewards vs. Wells Fargo Autograph Journey comparison

Capital one venture rewards vs. wells fargo autograph journey welcome offer.

travel specialist capital one

The Venture Rewards comes with a welcome offer of 75,000 bonus Capital One miles after spending $4,000 in the first three months of account opening.

Those miles are worth $1,388 based on TPG's valuations , so you'll get a great value from the bonus, even though this is the standard offer for the card based on its offer history .

The Autograph Journey , meanwhile, comes with 60,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 in the first three months. These points are worth $960 based on our valuations.

Winner : Venture Rewards. It has a more valuable welcome offer than the Autograph Journey.

Capital One Venture Rewards vs. Wells Fargo Autograph Journey benefits

The Venture Rewards comes with an up-to-$100 credit for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry , plus rental car and travel accident insurance, extended warranty protection, and access to Capital One's Lifestyle Collection of hotels and Capital One Entertainment .

travel specialist capital one

Meanwhile, the Autograph Journey comes with a $50 annual statement credit for airfare purchases, effectively lowering the annual fee to $45 if you can take advantage of that perk. Cardholders also receive cellphone protection and access to a new benefit called "Autograph Card Exclusives."

While details are scant at the moment, Autograph Card Exclusives promises to offer access to concerts showing "big-name artists in small venues," seemingly delivering an intimate experience with popular acts.

Winner : Venture Rewards. Despite the promise of the Autograph Journey's perks, the Venture's longer list of established benefits wins out.

Earning miles on the Capital One Venture Rewards vs. the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey

With the Venture Rewards , you'll earn 5 miles per dollar spent on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel and 2 miles per dollar spent on all other purchases.

travel specialist capital one

But the Autograph Journey has much broader bonus categories. With it, you'll earn 5 points per dollar spent on hotels, 4 points per dollar spent on airlines, 3 points per dollar spent on other travel and dining and 1 point per dollar spent on other purchases.

Winner : Autograph Journey. While we figure Wells Fargo points to be worth slightly less than Capital One miles, the additional bonus categories — namely, dining and airlines — will more than make up for that difference for most consumers.

Redeeming miles on the Capital One Venture Rewards vs. the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey

The Venture Rewards earns extremely valuable Capital One miles, giving you a bevy of redemption options that make the miles worth about 1.85 cents apiece, per our valuations.

travel specialist capital one

You'll get the most value by transferring your miles to one of Capital One's travel partners , but you can also redeem them for a statement credit to cover travel purchases or for gift cards or cash back.

The Autograph Journey has a much smaller list of redemption options and transfer partners upon launch. It remains to be seen how these options will change. However, the issuer has promised more transfer partners will come throughout the year (more on that below).

Winner : Venture Rewards. Again, this could change if the Wells Fargo program continues to expand, but for now, Capital One still has the edge.

Related: Should you transfer Capital One miles to partners or redeem directly for travel?

Transferring miles with the Capital One Venture Rewards vs. the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey

The Venture Rewards allows you to transfer your miles to any of Capital One's 15-plus hotel and airline partners, including valuable options like Avianca LifeMiles , British Airways Executive Club and Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles .

travel specialist capital one

And if you can take advantage of a transfer bonus, you'll get even more value from your miles. For instance, I prefer to redeem my miles by transferring them to Air France-KLM Flying Blue during a transfer bonus promotion and using them to book business-class flights to Europe.

The Autograph Journey currently allows cardholders to transfer points to five airline programs:

  • Air France-KLM Flying Blue
  • Avianca LifeMiles
  • British Airways Executive Club, Aer Lingus AerClub and Iberia Plus (all earning Avios)

These are all great transfer partners and TPG favorites, though the number of options is obviously much smaller than those available with the Venture Rewards.

You'll also be able to transfer to a single hotel program, Choice Privileges , though that list hopefully will continue to grow as well.

Winner : Venture Rewards. Again, the current Wells Fargo transfer lineup isn't quite at Capital One's level.

Related: Wells Fargo transfer partners: How to use Go Far Rewards points

Should I get the Capital One Venture Rewards or the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey?

If you want an established card with great benefits and redemption options, you'll want to stick with the Venture Rewards . You'll get a strong earning rate, the ability to take advantage of Capital One's transfer partners and some travel benefits for just a $95 annual fee (see rates and fees ).

If you want higher earning rates, the newly launched Autograph Journey is a viable option worth considering.

Bottom line

Despite their differences, the Venture Rewards and the Autograph Journey are excellent travel rewards cards with valuable benefits and earning rates for their mid-tier annual fee. The Venture Rewards' established list of perks and transfer partners give it the edge, but the Autograph Journey could be neck and neck soon given its growing list of redemption options.

Taking advantage of both cards could definitely make sense, too, if you can handle two $95 annual fees (see rates and fees for the Venture Rewards)..

History of Moscow Oblast

The territory of the Moscow region was inhabited more than 20 thousand years ago. In the first millennium AD, this land was inhabited mostly by the Finno-Ugric peoples (Meryane and Meshchera). In the 9th-10th centuries, the Slavs began active development of the region. The population was engaged in hunting, fisheries, agriculture, and cattle breeding.

In the middle of the 12th century, the territory of the present Moscow region became part of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality, the first towns were founded (Volokolamsk in 1135, Moscow in 1147, Zvenigorod in 1152, Dmitrov in 1154). In the first half of the 13th century, the Vladimir-Suzdal principality was conquered by the Mongols.

In the 14th-16th centuries, Moscow principality became the center of unification of Russian lands. The history of the Moscow region is inextricably linked to military events of the Time of Troubles - the siege of the Trinity-Sergius Monastery by the troops of False Dmitry II, the first and second militias.

More historical facts…

In 1708, by decree of Peter the Great, Moskovskaya gubernia (province) was established. It included most of the territory of present Moscow oblast. In 1712, St. Petersburg became the capital of the Russian Empire and the significance of the Moscow region as the country’s economic center began to decrease.

In 1812, the Battle of Borodino took place near Moscow. It was the biggest battle of the Russian-French War of 1812. In the second half of the 19th century, especially after the peasant reform of 1861, the Moscow province experienced economic growth. In 1851, the first railway connected Moscow and St. Petersburg; in 1862 - Nizhny Novgorod.

The population of the Moscow region increased significantly (in 1847 - 1.13 million people, in 1905 - 2.65 million). On the eve of the First World War, Moscow was a city with a population of more than one million people.

In November, 1917, the Soviet power was established in the region. In 1918, the country’s capital was moved from St. Petersburg to Moscow that contributed to economic recovery of the province. In the 1920s-1930s, a lot of churches located near Moscow were closed, a large number of cultural monuments were destroyed. On January 14, 1929, Moscow Oblast was formed.

In 1941-1942, one of the most important battles of the Second World War took place on the territory of the region - the Battle for Moscow. In the postwar years, the growth of economic potential of the region continued; several science cities were founded (Dubna, Troitsk, Pushchino, Chernogolovka).

In the 1990s, the economy of Moscow Oblast experienced a deep crisis. Since the 1990s, due to the motorization of the population and commuting, road traffic situation in the Moscow region significantly deteriorated. Traffic jams have become commonplace.

Moscow Oblast - Features

Moscow Oblast is located in the central part of the East European Plain, in the basin of the rivers of Volga, Oka, Klyazma, Moskva. The region stretches from north to south for 310 km, from west to east - 340 km. It was named after the city of Moscow, which however is not part of the region. Part of the administrative authorities of the region is located in Krasnogorsk.

On the territory of the Moscow region, there are 77 cities and towns, 19 of them have a population of more than 100 thousand people. The largest cities are Balashikha (518,300), Podolsk (309,600), Mytishchi (262,700), Khimky (256,300), Korolyov (225,300), Lubertsy (209,600), Krasnogorsk (174,900), Elektrostal (149,000), Odintsovo (138,900), Kolomna (136,800), Domodedovo (136,100).

The climate is temperate continental. Summers are warm, winters are moderately cold. The average temperature in January is minus 10 degrees Celsius, in July - plus 19 degrees Celsius.

One of the most important features of the local economy is its proximity to Moscow. Some of the cities (Odintsovo, Krasnogorsk, Mytishchi) have become in fact the “sleeping districts” of Moscow. The region is in second place in terms of industrial production among the regions of Russia (after Moscow).

The leading industries are food processing, engineering, chemical, metallurgy, construction. Moscow oblast has one of the largest in Russia scientific and technological complexes. Handicrafts are well developed (Gzhel ceramics, Zhostov trays, Fedoskino lacquered miniatures, toy-making).

Moscow railway hub is the largest in Russia (11 radial directions, 2,700 km of railways, the density of railways is the highest in Russia). There are two large international airports - Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo. Vnukovo airport is used for the flights within the country.

Attractions of Moscow Oblast

Moscow Oblast has more than 6,400 objects of cultural heritage:

  • famous estate complexes,
  • ancient towns with architectural monuments (Vereya, Volokolamsk, Dmitrov, Zaraysk, Zvenigorod, Istra, Kolomna, Sergiev Posad, Serpukhov),
  • churches and monasteries-museums (the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, Joseph-Volokolamsk monastery, Pokrovsky Khotkov monastery, Savvino Storozhevsky monastery, Nikolo Ugresha monastery).

The most famous estate complexes:

  • Arkhangelskoye - a large museum with a rich collection of Western European and Russian art of the 17th-19th centuries,
  • Abramtsevo - a literary and artistic center,
  • Melikhovo - an estate owned by A.P. Chekhov at the end of the 19th century,

The architectural ensemble of the Trinity Sergius Lavra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The largest museum of the Moscow region is located in Serpukhov - Serpukhov Historical and Art Museum.

The places of traditional arts and crafts are the basis of the souvenir industry of Russia:

  • Fedoskino - lacquer miniature painting,
  • Bogorodskoe - traditional manufacture of wooden toys,
  • Gzhel - unique tradition of creating ceramics,
  • Zhostovo - painted metal crafts,
  • Pavlovsky Posad - fabrics with traditional printed pattern.

Some of these settlements have museums dedicated to traditional crafts (for example, a toy museum in Bogorodskoe), as well as centers of learning arts and crafts.
