Troubleshooting, safari 8.0.1, 7.1.1, & 6.2.1 released for mac os x.

Apple has released a series of small updates to the Safari web browser for users of OS X Yosemite, OS X Mavericks, and earlier versions of OS X including Mountain Lion. The contents of the updates vary per release, but include bug fixes and resolutions to some issues that users were experiencing with specific versions of the Mac web browser and the autofill feature.

The updates are versioned as Safari 8.0.1 for OS X 10.10, Safari 7.1.1 for OS X 10.9.5, and Safari 6.2.1 for OS X 10.8.5.

All Mac users who use the Safari browser should update to the newest version available to them through the Mac App Store, accessible via the  Apple menu. The updates are small in size and weigh around 65MB, and a reboot is not required to complete the installation.

For OS X Yosemite users, Safari 8.0.1 fixes an iCloud Drive syncing issue, a fix for an autofill iCloud keychain problem, improvements to graphics performance with Retina displays, and a feature that allows importation of users names and password information from the Firefox web browser.

For OS X Maverick and earlier OS X users, Safari 7.1.1 contains “improvements to usability, stability, and security. This update … fixes an issue that could prevent a saved password from being autofilled after two devices are added to iCloud keychain.”

The App Store in prior versions of OS X will also show the OS X Yosemite update as available for compatible Macs, but it is not necessary to install Yosemite to get the Safari update. For users who are not ready to install OS X 10.10 yet, you can hide the Yosemite update , or you can simply ignore it and update Safari manually.

Update: The Safari updates were removed from the App Store for an unknown reason, some users were able to install them while they were available while users who check now will not find them.

Earlier, I used to work upon Chrome; but after installing OS X Yosemite, I like to use Safari 8.0.1. Infact I love to use it to make my difficult task too easy with its good features like Enriched Address Bar, Keeping a Single Window Private, Trimming web address etc.

So what is the general consensus regarding the manual install of the pkg files available from Apple links. Are they safe to install or not? The lack of information from Apple is astounding.

Graig, a PRO user would never need to based on apple for the pkg files. You are just need to download Pacifist and extract the app you want from the Yosemite installer. It’s that simple.

Well thanks PRO but I doubt that these new updates are included in the Yosemite installer so I don’t see it as being that simple, and I am only interested in the Mavericks version anyway.

Wonder what happened? I installed the 8.0.1 update before it was pulled. I haven’t had any issues with it.

Apple botched iOS 8, iOS 8.0.1 made iPhones useless, then came OS X Yosemite with its disasters, OS X 10.10.1 doesn’t fix the wi-fi problems or the font problems, OS X 10.10.2 does nothing, and now a simple Safari update has to be pulled.

You would think Apple with it’s successes could hire some more software developers to work on this sort of thing. Maybe invest in a quality assurance team that is not the public?

Or just do whatever it was they used to do haha. Amazing how everything used to release without catastrophic issue and now all of a sudden that changed.

Speak for yourself, I have had no issues with any of the updates. If you had read the report at the time, the iOS 8.0.1 update only affected some iPhone 6 phones, not every phone on the planet, but hey, why let hyperbole get in the way of the facts, right?

Yosemite works just perfectly on my 5 year old MacBook Pro, and I can understand some not liking the UI, but what would you prefer, windows 8? Nobody’s holding a gun to anyone’s head to force them to use it. Feel free to enjoy Mavericks, Mountain Lion etc.

Looks like Apple botched the update. There are some comments on their support site from users who now see a question mark instead of the Safari icon (after updating) and have no access to Safari. The solution is said to be reinstalling the OS! I’m glad Apple pulled the update before I installed it.

We just updated the article to mention the updates were pulled. Safari 7.1.1 installed fine in OS X Mavericks while Safari 8.0.1 was removed before getting a chance to try out.

Hopefully not many were impacted by any flaws with the update!

You could always use the direct links to get the Safari installer rather than reinstalling the whole OS. Can’t understand why Apple doesn’t post Safari downloads anymore.

I like Chrome in everything but Yosemite, Yosemite you have to use Safari because Chrome crashes. Yes, OS X Yosemite is a mess.

I use Safari and Firefox on Yosemite. Neither one of those two crashes.

So sorry, I don’t think it’s OS X fault coz some 3rd party software crashes. Blame it on google.

I have issues with Chrome also especially with the magic mouse. When I scroll down it always navigates backwards. The Chrome browser is unusable on Yosemite.

I really prefer Safari anyways but I like Chrome because you can do so much with the extensions but I hear you with Chrome and Yosemite.

I use both Firefox AND Google CHROME

and both work admirably with Yosemite 10.1.1.

Safari has far too many problems for me to use it very often.

I have found Yosemite to be the best stable OS in eons, and I use Chrome daily and it has NEVER crashed on me.

As a workaround, copy and paste the URL into an alternate web browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Both of which are free to download and easy to install. This should allow you to authorize nugs.net secure pages.

Or try this:  "Turns out it was my Mac antivirus that was causing the "Safari can't Establish a secure connection". All website are working after I disabled the Web Shield in my antivirus setting."

I really need help! I tried to forget the network and turning it back on, I have disabled the firewall and remove all extensions of safari. I seems that nothing works.

I get the message 'Safari cannot connect to the server' on almost every site except this and facebook. I can't enter same Urbanoutfitters.com or ASOS. I just got the message "Safari could not connect to Server" I'm not a computer genius so hopefully someone here can help me...

You may have installed one or more variants of the malware "VSearch' ad-injection. Please back up all data, and then take the steps below to disable it.

Do not use any type of product, "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" on a Mac. It is never necessary for her, and relying on it for protection makes you more vulnerable to attacks, not less.

Malware is constantly evolving to work around defenses against it. This procedure works now, I know. It will not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a couple of days or more after it was published should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.

VSearch malware tries to hide by varying names of the files it installs. It regenerates itself also if you try to remove it when it is run. To remove it, you must first start in safe mode temporarily disable the malware.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or an earlier version, or if a firmware password is defined, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can not do this. Ask for other instructions.

When running in safe mode, load the web page and then triple - click on the line below to select. Copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination:

from the menu bar and paste it into the box that opens by pressing command + V. You won't see what you pasted a newline being included. Press return.

A folder named "LaunchDaemons" can open. If this is the case, press the combination of keys command-2 to select the display of the list, if it is not already selected.

There should be a column in the update Finder window. Click this title two times to sort the content by date with the most recent at the top. Please don't skip this step. Files that belong to an instance of VSearch will have the same date of change for a few minutes, then they will be grouped together when you sort the folder this way, which makes them easy to identify.

In the LaunchDaemons folder, there may be one or more files with the name of this form:

The first three are clearly not VSearch files because the names do not match the above models. The last three are not easy to distinguish by the name alone, but the modification date will be earlier than the date at which VSearch has been installed, perhaps several years. None of these files will be present in most installations of Mac OS X.

If you are not sure whether a file is part of the malware, order the contents of the folder by date modified I wrote in step 2, no name. Malicious files will be grouped together. There could be more than one such group, if you attacked more than once. A file dated far in the past is not part of the malware. A folder in date dated Middle an obviously malicious cluster is almost certainly too malicious.

If the files come back after you remove the, they are replaced by others with similar names, then either you didn't start in safe mode or you do not have all the. Return to step 1 and try again.

Reset the home page in each of your browsers, if it has been modified. In Safari, first load the desired home page, then select

If you use Firefox or Chrome web browser, remove the extensions or add-ons that you don't know that you need. When in doubt, remove all of them.

The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you reinstall it never. A few small files will be left behind, but they have no effect, and trying to find all them is more trouble that it's worth.

The malware lets the web proxy discovery in the network settings. If you know that the setting was already enabled for a reason, skip this step. Otherwise, you should undo the change.

Open the network pane in system preferences. If there is a padlock icon in the lower left corner of the window, click it and authenticate to unlock the settings. Click the Advanced button, and then select Proxies in the sheet that drops down. Uncheck that Auto Discovery Proxy if it is checked. Click OK, and then apply.

This step is optional. Open the users and groups in the system preferences and click on the lock icon to unlock the settings. In the list of users, there may be some with random names that have been added by the malware. You can remove these users. If you are not sure whether a user is legitimate, do not delete it.

Please remove the 'ESET' product (if you have it installed) by following these instructions . If you have a different version of the product, the steps may be different.

Back up all data before making any changes. Never install any product "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" again.

If you have a subscription, you have no programs to call yours.  Get a subscription and the problem should be solved.

I can't access mode without failure or any other profiles created.
