The Best London Tours

Best London Tours

Courtesy of Secret Food Tours

If you're looking for the best things to do in London but unsure where to begin, consider a guided tour of the city. Many sightseeing excursions cover the highlights (think Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge), while other London tours focus on Harry Potter, Jack the Ripper and day trips to Stonehenge. Read on to discover a variety of well-rated tours in London.

Secret Food Tours – London Bridge

Price: Adults from 79 pounds (about $100); kids from 69 pounds (about $88) Duration: 3 to 3.5 hours

British food often gets a bad reputation, but this tour will change your mind. You'll visit seven different eateries, sampling everything from sausage rolls to sticky toffee pudding.

The tour begins at bustling Borough Market, where you'll snack on a bacon and egg bap (the U.K. version of a breakfast sandwich) as your guide tells you about the history of the market, as well as an overview of the city's history and culture. Other stops include a historic pub for a cheese tasting paired with English cider. And – as is standard on a Secret Food Tour – there will be a secret dish offered somewhere along the way. As you eat your way through London, you'll also enjoy great views of the city skyline, London Bridge and Tower Bridge. Past participants appreciate the quantity and quality of food provided, as well as the entertaining guides.

Tours depart several times a day between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Secret Food Tours also offers tours of the Shoreditch district, among other areas.

BrakeAway Bike Tours – The Secret London Bike Tour

Price: Adults from 32 pounds (about $41); kids from 26 pounds (about $33) Duration: 3.5 hours

This London bike tour leads riders past famous sights, such as the Tower of London and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, but also explores lesser-known features of the city, including its street art and secret passageways. It also includes a 20-minute stop at Brick Lane. Reviewers extol the fun guides and say the tour is ideal if you want a break from the tourist crowds. Plus, they say it's a great value for the money.

Tours are offered daily from late March through October at 3 p.m. Tour prices include bikes, helmets and rain ponchos. Children 9 and younger are not permitted on the tour, and groups are capped at 12 participants. For a more traditional tour of London, consider the company's Grand London Bike Tour.

Liquid History Tours – Drink London Tour

Price: From 25 pounds (about $32) Duration: 3 to 4 hours

If the idea of walking – and drinking – in the footsteps of literary luminaries like Shakespeare and Dickens appeals, this is the tour for you. On the Drink London Tour, you'll walk along the "Street of Shame" (Fleet Street) for approximately 2 miles and stop in at least four historic pubs, some centuries old. You'll stroll by St. Paul's Cathedral, peek into secluded courtyards and listen to tales about Sweeney Todd. Travelers love the stories the guides share just as much as they enjoy drinking the local brews.

Note that the cost of drinks is not included, and reservations are required for this tour. Participants must be at least 18 years old. If you're traveling with a group, consider one of Liquid History Tours' private excursions.

The Ghost Bus Tours

Price: Adults from 25 pounds (about $32); kids from 17 pounds (about $22) Duration: 75 minutes

Ride a vintage double-decker bus for a spooky peek into London's lesser-known history with Ghost Bus Tours. Mixing horror with a fair bit of comedy – an aspect reviewers love – the actors-turned-guides describe the haunted history of top attractions, such as the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey, among other famous landmarks. Both visitors and locals value the obscure stories guides share.

Tours last approximately 75 minutes and run several times each evening, though departure times vary by day.

London Bicycle Tour Company – The Classic Tour

Price: Adults from 33.95 pounds (about $43); kids from 24.95 pounds (about $32) Duration: 3 hours

Travelers consistently give the London Bicycle Tour Company high marks for its fun guides who are vigilant about ensuring riders' safety. On the Classic Tour – which travels about 8 miles – you'll breeze past Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, Banksy Tunnel (where you'll likely witness artists at work) and other local landmarks. Your tour guide will offer commentary and give you plenty of time to stop and take photos. Children need to be at least 10 years old and stable riders to participate.

Tours are offered daily at 10:30 a.m. To admire the city lights at night, consider the company's daily sunset ride.

Price: Adults from 20 pounds ($25); kids from 14 pounds (about $18) Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours

Promising to show you things London guidebooks don't cover, Alternative London's walking tour takes you to East London, where guides showcase the area's street art and discuss its culture and history. The company employs street artists and other creative types as guides so you get an insider's look into the community, something travelers say makes the tour unique. No two tours are alike because every guide has their favorite route and spots to highlight. Past tourgoers say the tour is fun and full of interesting insights.

Tours run at 11 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and Tuesdays, as well as 2 p.m. on Fridays. Outings are limited to 20 people. Looking to explore more of London's hidden spots? Alternative London offers a bike tour that emphasizes street art.

The English Bus – Stonehenge, Bath & A Secret Place Tour

Price: From 134 pounds (about $170) Duration: 12 hours

After you've had your fill of London's hustle, take a day trip to the countryside for a tour of Stonehenge . On this small tour of 16 people or fewer, you'll depart London in a Mercedes minibus and head to both Stonehenge and Bath. At Stonehenge, you'll have time to walk around the ancient stones and marvel at their enormity. In Bath, you'll have time to stop for lunch and either explore on your own or take a guided tour. The twist to this tour is that you'll also visit a secret spot on the way back to London, which is only revealed when you arrive.

The English Bus's vehicle, with panoramic windows and a glass roof, is small enough to go down back roads and through the countryside – a feature travelers love. Reviewers are also complimentary of the guides, who they describe as friendly, educational and well-versed in British history.

Tours depart daily at 8:45 a.m. and return to central London around 8:30 p.m. Tickets do not include food, drinks or admission to Stonehenge. The English Bus also operates daylong trips to the Cotswolds, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon, among other destinations.

Price: Adults from 53.50 pounds ($68); kids from 43 pounds ($55) Duration: 3.5 to 7 hours

Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter offers a behind-the-scenes look at sets, props and costumes used in the film franchise. Walk through the Great Hall – which is set for dinner – and explore Diagon Alley and Platform 9 3/4. Other exhibits include Creature Effects, where you can see how characters like Buckbeak the Hippogriff and Aragog were brought to life. You can even enjoy a butterbeer in the Backlot Café. Special exhibits are also displayed throughout the year and around the holidays.

Plan to spend at least half a day to fully experience the collection and discover its intricate details. Themed packages and add-on experiences are also available. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Upon boarding, a server greets you with a complimentary glass of prosecco, and hors d'oeuvres are served throughout the two-hour cruise. Previous travelers say they enjoyed the cruise, noting it is relaxing and affords spectacular views for photos.

In the warm weather months, cruises run daily at 6:30 p.m.; beginning in October, cruises are available Thursday through Sunday only. Patrons must be age 13 or older to join the tour. Other London river cruises offered by City Experiences include a hop-on, hop-off sightseeing cruise.

Courtesy of Jack the Ripper Tour

The Jack the Ripper Tour With Ripper-Vision

Price: Adults from 18 pounds (about $23); kids from 10 pounds (about $13) Duration: 2 hours

This offbeat Jack the Ripper tour has a unique spin: the company uses what it calls "Ripper-Vision" to tell the story of the notorious murderer. A hand-held projector, "Ripper-Vision" displays pictures on walls and sides of buildings throughout the tour, allowing the guides to show (and tell) all about the infamous serial killer. You'll visit the actual murder sites where Jack the Ripper commited his crimes, and will get a glimpse of what London was like in the late 1800s. Tourgoers say guides are informative, entertaining and skilled at retelling the stories of Jack the Ripper's escapades.

Tours are offered nightly at 7:30 p.m., with an additional 5 p.m. tour on select days. The company also offers Jack the Ripper pub tours.

Evan Evans Tours – Windsor Castle, Stonehenge & Bath

Price: Adults from 95 pounds (about $121); kids from 85 pounds (about $108) Duration: 11 hours

Here, you'll have time to stroll the immaculate grounds and pay a visit to St George's Chapel, the location of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's 2018 nuptials. From there, you'll head to the city of Bath, England – a UNESCO World Heritage Site that's home to the world-famous Roman Baths. The last stop of the day is Stonehenge. In all, the tour lasts about 11 hours. Reviewers rave about the entertaining, passionate guides, but some do bemoan the pace of the tour, saying certain parts felt rushed. Speaking of royalty, catch the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace, the residence of the reigning monarchs.

In central London, enjoy Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, the British Museum, and St. Paul’s Cathedral. London also has a splendid array of markets to explore, like Covent Garden or Portobello Road on Notting Hill. With all this and more, the historic and vibrant European capital of London is an absolute must-see.

The heaviest tourist season runs mid-April through mid-October, with another peak around Christmas—though the tide never really ebbs. Spring is the time to see the countryside and the royal London parks and gardens at their freshest; fall to enjoy near-ideal exploring conditions. In late summer, be warned: air-conditioning is rarely found in places other than department stores, modern restaurants, hotels, and cinemas in London, and in a hot summer you'll swelter. Winter can be rather dismal, but all the theatres, concerts, and exhibitions go full speed.

It's virtually impossible to forecast London weather, but you can be fairly certain that it will not be what you expect. It's generally mild—with some savage exceptions, especially in summer. In short, be prepared for anything: layers and an umbrella are your friends.

From Stonehenge day trips and Harry Potter tours to walking tours of London’s top attractions, here are the best London tours to take and why we think you’ll love them.

Pro Tip:  Planning what to do on your trip to London? Bookmark this post in your browser so you can easily find it when you’re in the city. Check out our  guide to London  for more planning resources, our  top London tours  for a memorable trip, and  how to see London in a day .

Should You Take a Tour in London?

Short answer: Yes, it’s one of the best places to take advantage of a passionate, knowledgeable guide who knows England’s complex yet lively history!

It’s the site of famous churches, funerals, and every British coronation ceremony since 1066 AD! There’s a lot to discover so you’ll appreciate having a guide who knows exactly where to spend your valuable time here.

Cruise the River Thames

With a start in the famous Trafalgar Square, you’ll follow your guide to the River Thames to board a Thames Clipper boat. See London’s modern skyline with the beloved St. Paul’s Cathedral rising proudly between the skyscrapers as your guide explains each building. Get familiar with London’s other sites like the London Eye, Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, the Oxo Tower, Tower Bridge, and more.

The oldest fortress in London stands as a citadel on the River Thames near Tower Bridge. This unique structure has been built upon over the centuries since it’s first building, the White Tower, constructed by William the Conqueror in 1066 A.D.

Watch for the ravens and learn about the legend behind them and the British monarchy. Then try to distract a Beefeater guard before heading in to see the crown jewels. There are centuries of history, executions, and tragedy to learn about here, which is why your guide will be essential to enjoying one of the best London tours.

6. Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, and Bath Day Trip from London

The long walk at wonder castle is a definite on London tours

Round-trip Transportation from London

Make your day trip to Stonehenge easier by leaving the driving, transportation, and ticketing to a trusted guide. It’s a 2.5-hour drive out to Stonehenge, and if you’re not familiar with driving on the left side of the road, it can make for a stressful experience. Instead, when you book with us, you’ll feel comfortable as you sit back and let your driver do the work.

Windsor Castle

First, head to Windsor Castle, the former Queen’s favorite residence. Located just an hour outside of London, this castle and its grounds are a popular place to visit. If you’re a fan of the royals, it’s easily one of the best London tours to take.

While no guides are allowed inside the castle, you’ll be prepared with a narrative from your driver-guide ahead of time and your skip-the-line tickets. There are 13,000 acres here, and you’ll be free to explore the Grand Apartments, Queen Mary’s Doll House, and more.

Next, you’ll head over to Stonehenge, which is possibly Britain’s most famous ancient ruins. This 4,000-year-old structure is likely of Druid origin and fascinates visitors who marvel at its construction. You’ll have plenty of time to walk up to these mysterious stones and take pictures. Depending on the time of year, you might even have a chance to purchase some local strawberries to enjoy while you’re here!

Your final stop is at Bath, which is another city with deep roots from the Roman Empire. In fact, those Roman baths here are what gave this town its name, despite their original use by the Celts too. You’ll need to arrange your own tickets here, but if you’re not as interested in Roman baths, you might be tempted by the Jane Austen Museum.

This time in Bath is free for you to explore as you like after hearing all about it on your drive there. Be sure to check out any of the local restaurants your driver recommends!

  • London’s iconic sites outside of the city
  • Skip-the-line tickets to Windsor Castle
  • Time to explore Stonehenge
  • Lunch in Bath (on your own)
  • Options to visit the Roman Baths or Jane Austen Museum
  • Round-trip transportation from London

Not ready to book a tour? Find out if a Windsor Castle tour is worth it .

7. Exclusive Meet & Greet Tour with the Tower of London Beefeaters

Two men meet and great with a Beefeater on this London Tour

Private Meeting with a Beefeater

It doesn’t get more exclusive than a private 15 minutes with a Yeoman Warder (also known as a Beefeater). While these guards have a serious 20+ years of military career behind them, there’s nothing they love more than entertaining visitors with stories at the Tower in between their official duties. You can’t beat that!

Then you get to have your own guided tour of the rest of the Tower. From the Bloody Tower to St. Thomas’ Tower, Traitors Gate, and the White Tower, there’s more to explore than you can imagine. That’s why your guide is here to help you navigate and understand it all.

You’ll also get entry to the crown jewels that have wowed millions of visitors with their lavish decadence. Make sure to keep an eye out for the piece your guide tells you is the oldest in the entire collection—dating back to the early 1600s!

  • Private meet & greet with a Beefeater

8. Early Access Stonehenge Morning Tour from London with Inner Circle

london tour trip

Even if you’re an early bird, you might not want to navigate unfamiliar roads in the wee hours of the morning. That’s why you’ll appreciate leaving those details to a confident, local driver-guide. Catch an extra hour or two of sleep while you are safely transported to Stonehenge in the pre-dawn hours.

Stonehenge Sunrise

Watching the sunrise is always a magical moment. Make it even more memorable by seeing Stonehenge in that early morning light! These ancient stones are captivating any time of the day, but with this early morning tour, you get special access to Stonehenge before the general public. It’s a truly special experience that most don’t get to have.

Salisbury Cathedral and Magna Carta

A trip to Salisbury is up next, and you’re not too far away. This is the town where you’ll find the largest spire in the UK at the Salisbury Cathedral (Cathedral of St. Mary). Your guide will also tell you how to find an original copy of the Magna Carta, long regarded as the first accepted standard for human rights. You’ll have free time to explore this town and enjoy a break for lunch before heading back to London in the late afternoon.

  • Early access to Stonehenge before the public
  • Entry to Salisbury Cathedral
  • Free time to see Magna Carta and explore Salisbury

Not ready to book a tour? Check out our  best Stonehenge tours to take and why .

11. The Magic of Harry Potter: Warner Bros Studios & Walking Tour of London

london tour trip

London Harry Potter Walking Tour

You could wander through the streets of London trying to follow a random blog article’s recommendation to find Harry Potter’s filming sites. Or you could book a guided tour with a local Potterhead who knows just where to go and how to get there easily. From Lambeth Bridge to Southwark, see where Diagon Alley was filmed and the location for the Ministry of Magic (and much more).

Warner Brothers Studio

This is where booking a guide really comes in handy for a Harry Potter day tour. You can hop in a vehicle and let your guide easily take you to the famous Warner Brothers Studio outside of the city. Make your Harry Potter tour in London easy by leaving the details to us so you can just enjoy a few hours exploring the Harry Potter sets and gift shop here.

Then head back to London to depart at Platform 9 3/4! For Harry Potter lovers, the best London tours to take just don’t get any better!

  • Guided walking tour of top Harry Potter sites
  • See Diagon Alley, Ministry of Magic, Platform 9 3/4 and more
  • Free time at Warner Brothers Studio to see Harry Potter sets and shop
  • Round-trip transportation

10. After Hours Stonehenge Inner Circle Tour from London

best london tours

If you’re not an early bird but more of a night owl, then a sunset trip to Stonehenge is ideal. You’ll leave mid-morning with a small group on this full-day tour of some of England’s most ancient sites near London. And after a long day, you can relax while your trusted driver takes care of the driving.

Silbury Hill and West Kennet

England has its own mysterious manmade mound that is roughly the size of an Egyptian pyramid. You’ll find it at Silbury Hill, where your guide will take you first thing. Plus, you’ll stop at West Kennet Long Barrow to see an ancient burial ground that probably dates back to the Neolithic period (about 5,000 years ago!). These areas have so much mystery that it’s essential to go with a guide who can help you understand the significance of what you’re seeing.

Did you know there are mysterious circles of stones in Avebury too? They’re not quite as impressive as Stonehenge, but there are still some great mysteries to see here. Avebury is a charming town with a haunted pub. Your guide will definitely tell you all about it and recommend you eat a late lunch there too.

After your free time in Avebury, your driver-guide will transport you to the highlight of this tour: Stonehenge. What’s extra special about this tour is that your tickets give you guided access to the Inner Circle of Stonehenge for an hour after the public has already left. It’s the perfect way to enjoy this monolith in solitude at the end of the day. Then you’ll head back to London and let your driver do the hard work.

  • Visits to see Silbury Hill and West Kennet
  • Free time in Avebury with lunch on your own
  • Haunted pub tales
  • Entry to Stonehenge after the public leaves

11. The Ultimate London Speedboat Adventure

best london tours

Looking for a thrill? You might not envision an adventure activity in the heart of London, but here it is! Hop aboard one of London’s speedboats on the River Thames. You’ll zoom from one iconic monument to the next on an 800-horsepower speedboat. Best of all, your skipper is quite entertaining, so you’re sure to love the stories you hear as you take in the Shard, the Globe, London Eye, Big Ben, Tower Bridge, and more.

This was my first tour, and I enjoyed every second of it. The itinerary was excellent, saw everything that I had hoped to see, and there was plenty of free time to explore on my own. It was wonderful to have the Oyster card [for bus and tube]. The hotel was very nice, newly renovated, and located right across from Hyde Park, wonderful for walks in the early morning or evening. Our tour director, Ellie, was extremely organized, and was excellent at providing background and history as we drove through the city, and at the venues. She was also very helpful in providing ideas for places to explore on our free time, and would help with any questions we had. If people needed directions for places they wanted to see on their own, she would print them out. The tour guides [specialists] at some of the venues were also excellent, as was our bus driver, Dave. I left feeling like I had really done more than I would have thought possible in 8 days! London is a lovely city, tourist-friendly, and rich in culture and history. I would love to go again!

What people love about London Tours

Was a fantastic trip. Our guide was the best. Our trip was Sept 10/11 with an overnight stay in Bath.
My recent 3-Day Isle of Wight and Southern Coast Small-Group Tour from London was a peaceful and enjoyable experience. The people in our group were friendly and made the trip even better. Our guide, Mark, was fantastic. He knew a lot about the area, cracked jokes, and helped us a lot. His stories and knowledge made the trip interesting and fun. Plus, the breathtaking sights of the lush green landscapes and the mesmerizing sea views were truly amazing. If you want a relaxing getaway with great company, a fantastic guide, and stunning natural beauty, I highly recommend this tour.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience. There were a couple of small hiccups, nothing is perfect, but our guide and our driver did a fantastic job of making the experience fun and meaningful. The only thing I would flag is that the group size is a bit large - we were 46 - which can sometimes make for slower travel. Otherwise, absolutely wonderful!

Multicultural London: how to travel the world without leaving the city

W hether it’s sipping freshly ground Ethiopian coffee in Shepherd’s Bush while discovering the secret to the best brews, stumbling upon the philosophy of a new-age Persian poet, or finding an Afghan artisan with the kind of taste and talent to furnish a palace, London multiculturalism offers the kind of rich travel experiences you’ll still be banging on about at dinner parties, decades to come. But how often do we take advantage of this diversity?

Why not start planning a trip to some of the cultures thriving in the capital — no planes required. From Syria to Sri Lanka, the Philippines to the West Bank, these initiatives — created by or for asylum seekers or refugees — offer an unparalleled mix of stories, flavours and wisdom, while bringing people together in the most uplifting ways.

The Philippines via Farringdon

Migrateful runs some of the capital’s best cookery classes , including at a dedicated school in EC1, where refugee and immigrant chefs share their cultures by the dishful. One of the most popular is Chef Tina, who not only helps you get to grips with classic Filipino dishes such as ukoy (crunchy shrimp and vegetable fritters) and the tamarind-laced sinigang (pork soup), but also brings homespun Bulakeño favourites to the table, including the secret to her mother’s sticky coconut rice.

From Kyiv to Covent Garden

Yelyzaveta Tataryna planned to launch a vegan and gluten-free patisserie in her native Kyiv before the city was invaded. Come 2023, she was instead selling impossibly pretty pastries, including traditional sweet varenyky (dumplings) and a customer favourite tangerine tart behind a burst of pink florals in Covent Garden, alongside a team of similarly displaced Ukrainians. Don’t let the #Barbiecore fool you, though — this place is as conscious as it is photogenic. The menu changes in accordance with seasonal ingredients and they’ve done away with white sugar entirely.

Ethiopian aromas in Shepherd’s Bush

Spearheaded by Sefanit Mengiste, a Londoner born in Gondar, the historic seat of Ethiopian royalty, in conjunction with social enterprise Women Travel, this W12 taste tour of Shepherd’s Bush Market taps up the independent traders most favoured by London’s Ethiopian diaspora, over the course of two and a half hours. From medicinal ginger shots to warming misir alicha (lentil stew) mopped up with injera (fermented flatbread), the rich traditions of Addis Ababa and the lore of Lalibela are evoked flavour by flavour, bringing Mengiste’s heritage alive in west London. The jewel in the crown? A full Ethiopian coffee ceremony: a time-honoured custom during which she’ll wrap up proceedings by sharing powerful stories of childhood and community.

Syria by way of Soho

If you followed your nose right up to the top of Kingly Court off Carnaby Street, you’d strike the proverbial pot of gold; in this case, bowls of pomegranate-studded baba ghanouj, piles of ghee-lashed pita, platters of tender kebabs and some of the best baklava to be found in central at Imad’s Syrian Kitchen.

Owner Imad Alarnab was displaced to refugee camps in Lebanon and Calais after losing his Damascus restaurant business to war. After rebuilding his life in London through a successful series of charitable supper clubs, Alarnab now allocates £1 from each bill at his Soho-based restaurant to Choose Love, the UK charity that supports refugees and asylum seekers with humanitarian aid, and regularly hosts fundraising cooking clubs to uplift the community meaningfully. His combination of Syrian hospitality and popular Middle Eastern flavours has proved such a hit with patrons that many order the restaurant’s namesake recipe book before they leave the table.

Hebron tapestry in the heart of Holborn

At Mimosa House, Daria Khan’s identity-focused arts charity in Holborn, a new series of tatreez workshops aims to preserve the historic embroidery technique used by Palestinian women to chart their lives and loves. Londoner Tasneem Aliewi, whose family left Ramallah during the second uprising, runs one two-hour workshop per quarter: providing homespun snacks (such as dates and pastries with fresh mint tea), as well as tatreez kits representing various regions from her childhood and ancestry. With sessions offered free of charge for attendees, Aliewi hopes to cultivate an inclusive and welcoming space for all women, allowing them to build community bonds and forge deeper connections via colourful, cross-stitched motifs.

Connect to Yemen, Myanmar, Mali and more from Columbia Road

Breaking barriers that not only isolate countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Burkon Faso from international trade and tourism but also perpetuate one-sided narratives, Ishkar works with NGOs, designers, and travel guides to source high-level craftsmanship. Think jewellery, clothing, rugs and homeware sold online as well as at the company’s base on flower market-famous Columbia Road to empower communities and preserve heritage through film and events.

Persian platefuls in Lewisham

A non-profit connecting refugees and locals through a shared love of good food, SE13’s Plateful Cafe ( platefulcafe.co.uk ) provides hospitality training and upskilling as well as either volunteering or London living wage jobs (dependent on status) for those facing barriers to employment. Led by chefs predominantly from Iran, as well as Syria, Sri Lanka and Yemen, you’ll find the borough’s best chicken shawarma and creamy ash reshteh (noodle soup) supplemented by a cultural menu of live jazz, poetry readings and community get-togethers.

Keep an eye out for neighbour, Refugee Café, selling restaurant-grade food from refugees and asylum seekers at pop-ups across south-east London, while they prepare to open a permanent site back at base. Plus, check out their website for larder refills. The Persian carrot jam is exceptional.

I Just Spent a Week in London, and These 10 Amazon Finds Were at the Top of My Packing List — From $10

Including Apple AirTags, Baggu bags, and Reebok tennis shoes.

london tour trip

Travel + Leisure / Marcus Millan

It doesn’t matter where I’m headed in the world, I always have two non-negotiables when traveling somewhere new: I have to show up to the airport hours in advance (even with TSA pre-check) and I have to overpack — shocking, I know, but I never want to be without something important. So before embarking on my first trip to London, England, I knew there was only one place to find everything I'd need for a successful week-long adventure across the pond: Amazon.

From leisurely strolling through Notting Hill and admiring the bundles of blooms at Columbia Road Flower Market to reenacting The Beatles' iconic "Abbey Road" album cover, these 10 Amazon finds made my holiday go as smoothly as possible. My curated list of travel essentials includes a range of items, like comfortable sneakers , portable chargers , and crossbody bags . After all, it's my job as an Amazon shopping writer to know where the retailer's best travel accessories are. Keep scrolling to see what made my London packing list.

Baggu Medium Nylon Crescent Bag

The Airbnb I stayed at was a 30-minute Tube ride to central London, so I knew the only times I would be there was when I woke up in the morning and went to sleep at night. Because of this, I brought a spacious bag that could not only carry all of my belongings, but also be a fun accessory to add to my outfits. This Baggu crescent bag checked off both boxes thanks to its sleek exterior, roomy interior, and adjustable strap that I could wear around my shoulder, or across my chest. And, it’s made with a nylon material that’s machine washable, so I didn’t have to worry about it getting dirty throughout the day.

Anrabess Two-piece Lounge Set

With a seven-hour plane ride to Heathrow and another seven-hour trip back to NYC, comfort was at the top of my mind for my travel outfits. This is why I opted for a two-piece lounge set to keep me cozy from checking into my flight to checking into my Airbnb. This soft and stretchy set comes with a quarter-zip top that you can easily throw over a T-shirt, and drawstring pants that you can tighten or loosen as needed. Plus, there are 21 colors to choose from, including fun neutrals like apricot beige, caramel brown, and sky blue.

Apple AirTag

We’ve all heard horror stories of someone’s checked luggage not making it to their final destination, and they have no way of finding its location. So this wouldn’t be the case for me during my vacation, I grabbed a flight attendant-trusted Apple AirTag to stick in every bag I brought. The gadget comes with a built-in tracker that connects to the Find My App on my iPhone so I can see its location in real-time. And if your belongings do get lost, there’s an option to ping the AirTag to sound an alert or set it in lost mode until it’s found.

Reebok Club C 85 Vintage Walking Shoes

Like any major city, London calls for a lot of walking. And since I already get an above-average step count living in New York City, I brought my tried and true Reebok sneakers. The classic shoes feature white leather exteriors that match everything, and they’re extremely comfortable thanks to their supportive insoles. I’ve been through a lot of shoes that leave my feet and heels with blisters, but never with these shoes. You’ll definitely want to snag a pair while they’re on sale.

Bagail Eight-piece Packing Cube Set

I outed myself earlier, but it’s true. I’m guilty of overpacking. I wanted to make the most of my luggage space for this trip since I was traveling for a full week, so I snagged a set of packing cubes to help keep me organized. The handy eight-piece set came with various bags in different sizes to separate my clothing, undergarments, shoes, and makeup. It made it so easy to keep my bag organized throughout the week, and for once, I didn’t have to sit on my suitcase to get it to zip shut.

Iniu Portable Charger

Between using Google Maps to figure out where I was going, my camera to take photos, and Apple Pay to quickly buy things, I was constantly using my phone in London. I knew I needed a portable charger with how long I’d be out during the day, and the ones I already owned rarely lasted long enough to produce even half a charge. So after glimpsing through the 77,000 five-star reviews of this best-selling portable charger , I decided to give it a try. The charger lasted for days on one single charge and recharged my phone fast . I 10/10 recommend this for anyone traveling this summer.

Owala FreeSip Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle

Speaking of staying out and about all day, I wanted to make sure I had a reusable bottle of water on me to stay hydrated. And even though I have plenty of options on deck at home, my favorite as of late for on-the-go travel has been the best-selling Owala bottle . Made with an insulated design, the stainless steel bottle keeps my water ice cold for hours. And, it comes with a covered lid that locks into place so there are no potential leaks or spills. Choose from 16- to 40-ounce options, and 22 vibrant colors.

Columbia Arcadia II Jacket

In case you didn’t already know, London is notorious for rainy weather. Since I didn’t have room to pack an umbrella, I made sure to bring a waterproof jacket. This Columbia rain jacket is made with a lightweight fabric that is easy to layer over a shirt without getting hot, and its compact design makes it a breeze to pack into your suitcase — and in a tote when you’re on the go. Plus, it features a drawstring hood, built-in pockets, and a zipper to ensure you stay dry.

Mrsdry Silicone Travel Bottles

I’m pretty particular when it comes to using provided hotel toiletries. Certain items just don’t work with my sensitive skin or fine hair, so I’ve been adding my favorite moisturizers, body washes, and conditioners to this set of travel bottles for some time now. The four bottles are designed with a silicone material and a lid that locks into place, so you don’t have to worry about unwanted leaks. Each bottle is 3 ounces in size and comes with a clear bag to meet all TSA guidelines.

European Travel Plug Adapter

Last but certainly not least, this travel plug adapter kept my phone, headphones, and smartwatch running throughout the entire week. If you’re headed to Europe anytime soon, you’ll quickly learn that they don’t use the same outlets as we do in America, so it’s essential to bring an adapter if you plan on using any electronics. This popular pick came with three plug-ins in one, so I could charge multiple devices at once. I truly wouldn’t have made it through my trip without this.

What you need to know when traveling for taylor swift’s eras tour.

US singer and songwriter Taylor Alison Swift, also known as Taylor Swift performs on stage at the ... [+] Paris La Defense Arena as part of her The Eras Tour, in Nanterre, north-western France, on May 9, 2024.

Taylor Swift thrilled fans with the addition of performances from her latest album The Tortured Poets Department when she kicked off the European leg of The Eras Tour in Paris on Thursday, May 9, 2024. She jokingly called that section of the show Female Rage: The Musical . Most concertgoers already knew and sang along to every word of all the songs she sang from the album even though it was released just a few weeks earlier on April 19. Such is the power of Swift.

In her long career of riveting live shows, her stunning performance of “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” may very well be her masterpiece so far. Swift is enjoying unprecedented success with her latest albums and tour, which showcase how she can tell a story like no other artist. Both her singing voice and her literary voice are stronger than ever, and it’s joyful to watch Swift embody and embrace her mightiness as a performer.

It's no wonder many fans are willing to travel hundreds or even thousands of miles for the chance to see Taylor Swift perform live. Since tickets sold out so quickly for the few remaining U.S. tour dates and resellers are aware of the intense demand, some fans discovered it was more doable to attend one of her international shows.

So, many fans in the U.S. and other countries have decided to make a vacation out of going to The Eras Tour in Europe this summer. If you are among them, here’s some advice on how to make the most of your international adventure.

Consider Your Lodging and Transportation Choices First

Before buying a ticket, be sure that you will have accommodations available. If you can book a hotel that’s within walking distance of a stadium and know the area is safe, that is ideal. Otherwise, check bus and train schedules for the night of your venue, then look at hotels that might be close to bus or train stops.

With tens of thousands of fellow concertgoers leaving at the same time, transportation can get tricky. If you book a room that’s farther from the venue, try to get a rental car instead of vying for a taxi or rideshare after the show. If you do that, just be sure parking will be available. You may need to buy a parking pass from the venue.

Also be aware that hotel room prices skyrocket when Swift is in town because there is such a high demand. If you are renting a car and don’t mind a longer drive, you can save a lot of money by booking a hotel room that’s a longer drive from the venue.

Enjoy The Moment

Amy Wilkinson, a 49-year-old Swiftie from Tucson, AZ, went viral in December 2023 for her reenactments of The Eras Tour performances using Elf on the Shelf dolls. She posted them to her Instagram, @Tswizzle_Momma , and found thousands of people watching each time she posted her videos. Like many other Swifties in the US, she is flying to Europe for The Eras Tour.

Wilkinson told me she had this advice for fellow fans going to the show abroad, “Enjoy the entire experience, from the moment you get on the plane until the morning after. You may be going for the concert, but the memories are made in the details. See the sights. Enjoy the food. Meet other Swifties. This is at the heart of what international travel is about.”

Make The Friendship Bracelets

Rebecca Bartley, a Swiftie from Nova Scotia, Canada, is going to Sweden to see The Eras Tour. She advises bringing friendship bracelets to share with fellow concertgoers on the night of your show. Wilkinson suggested making friendship bracelets in the language of the country where you’ll be seeing the show.

MARINA DEL REY, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 13: A Taylor Swift fan, friendship bracelet detail, attends the ... [+] opening night theatrical release of "Taylor Swift : The Eras Tour" at AMC Marina Marketplace 6 on October 13, 2023 in Marina del Rey, California. (Photo by Amanda Edwards/Getty Images)

It’s easy to learn how to make friendship bracelets. I had never dabbled in making jewelry before, but now I find great joy in creating friendship bracelets. I created dozens and handed them to fans at The Eras Tour movie.

To make friendship bracelets, I start by choosing the colors I want and which word or phrase I want the bracelet to express. Then I choose colorful beads and pick out all the necessary letter beads.

Next, I cut off elastic string. I find it’s best to use Stretch Magic elastic string because of its strength and durability. To make the bracelets, I cut off a piece of string that’s twice as long as I need so that there is ample room for cutting and tying multiple knots.

Then I tape one end of the string to my workspace, string the beads I have set aside until I feel like the bracelet is complete. Being careful to not let any of the beads slide off the string, I then wrap it around my wrist to see how it fits and then consider whether I am making the bracelet for a wrist that’s likely larger or smaller than mine. (Also, with elastic string, there’s room for a flexible fit.) I adjust accordingly.

As a last step, I make four to five knots in the string to tie off the bracelet. Many fans choose to add a dab of fabric glue to the end of the knot, but I found that got really messy and wasn’t necessary if you make multiple knots. Then I tuck the knots into one of the beads so that it doesn’t show on the bracelet. Then the bracelet is concert-ready!

Keep in mind that there are a lot of other ways to make friendship bracelets that are for more involved and creative that mine. And, if the idea of making friendship bracelets doesn’t sound fun to you, don’t worry. You can buy premade friendship bracelets on Etsy. Some Etsy shops like RainFoxx13 and BonniesBracelet have elaborate, beautiful friendship bracelets that you may want to keep for yourself. Others sell packs of friendship bracelets in bulk.

If you don’t want to trade friendship bracelets, that’s okay, too. The Swiftie community is accepting and supportive, and you still may get several bracelets as gifts.

What To Wear To The Eras Tour

There are no rules for what you should wear to Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour beyond the guidelines from the venue. Some fans go casual, and others choose to dress to the nines for the show. Some fans choose to wear merch from Taylor Swift’s official store . Many fans choose to dress up in costumes inspired by Swift’s songs and lyrics.

With the release of The Tortured Poets Department and its video “Fortnight,” some fans are choosing to imitate some of her looks from the video. Others are wearing their interpretation of the incredible costumes she wears during The Eras Tour concert. Others look at past eras for inspiration. You are likely to see every era represented in fan costumes at a show.

What You Should Bring To The Eras Tour In Europe

Wilkinson advised me that the number one thing to bring is a portable phone charger. If you plan on recording video and taking photos, your phone’s battery may die down quickly, and a phone charger can ensure you can keep capturing the memories all night.

Earplugs are a good idea if you’re sensitive to loud noise. If you’re bringing kids along, they are a must. They ensure you can enjoy the music while protecting your ears.

Bring along a cardigan or jacket. Layering is a good idea for a concert during the summer. Although it may be hot in the stadium, you might be chilly on the way home from the show.

You can’t go wrong bringing along hand sanitizer and a travel pack of tissues. Even if you can get through “All Too Well” without tearing up, you may cry at the sheer excitement of the experience. It can be intense in the best way.

If you have tickets that are far back, bring along binoculars to see close-up details.

What To Avoid At The Eras Tour

Don’t come to the stadium with a big bag. If you haven’t attended stadium concerts before, you may not know that you need to carry a clear bag if you want to bring a purse. It also has to fit within the measurements allowed in the stadium, so you can’t just buy a clear backpack and expect to get in the show. Check with your show’s venue to make sure you follow their rules for what you can bring.

How To Get Taylor Swift Tickets In 2024

Tickets have already gone on sale for the rest of the currently confirmed dates of The Eras Tour for 2024. However, you can get secondhand tickets from resellers. It’s usually not a good idea to buy from individuals in Facebook groups offering to sell tickets. That’s hard to verify, and many are scammed that way. Instead, check with the individual venue to see how their resell process works. It varies throughout Europe depending on the country and the individual stadium.

Prince Harry receives emotional gift as Meghan Markle gives update on Archie and Lilibet on day one of Nigeria trip - best photos

The couple began their three-day trip to nigeria on friday.

HELLO!

Prince Harry received an emotional gift on Friday May 9 as he made a solo trip during the visit to Nigeria with wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

As he visited the Governor of Kaduna state, Senator Uba Sani, Harry was welcomed by dancers and a red carpet that led to the seats at the top of the steps of the governor’s office and assembly. Senator Sani praised Harry as a “symbol of courage and “praised his service to his country.” He added: "Please give our regards to the Duchess of Sussex, Princess Meghan."

Before he left, Harry was given two paintings — one of him and his late mother Princess Diana,  and another of him and wife Meghan.

Harry later visited Reference Hospital Kaduna which is Nigeria’s version of America's Walter Reed hospital — the first place service members are brought post-injury. Harry toured six wards, meeting several young men recuperating from their injuries; many had been shot, ambushed by Boko Haram or lost limbs due to blasts.

“You are going to get better, get back on your feet,” he told the first ward, meeting Corp Yusef, 23, who had been shot through the knee.

“Are you going to try for the Invictus Games team? Are you preparing for that? Don’t disappoint us," Harry joked before adding: “We will see you there.”

Harry later told Corporal Iziogo Onyema, 31, who had had his right arm reset after a gunshot: "You do get better, I promise."

Meghan shares rare details of Archie and Lilibet

Earlier in the day Meghan shared sweet updates about Prince Archie  and Princess Lilibet ,  as she and Prince Harry kicked off their three-day tour of Nigeria with a visit to a local school, supported by their Archewell Foundation.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were all smiles as they received a warm welcome at Lightway Academy in Abuja, with the couple taking time to chat with students and receiving beaded necklaces as gifts.

Harry and Meghan welcomed to Nigerian school

As they stopped at a kindergarten class, where children aged two to five danced and sung songs for them, Harry asked them: "Is singing and dancing your favourite class?"

"That’s Lili's favorite class,"  Meghan said of their two-year-old daughter. "Maybe it's all the jumping around."

Prince Archie enjoys 'construction'

The Sussexes were then taken to a STEM class where a group of youngsters showed the robot cars they’d created, with one proudly saying his was called M-Bot.

As Harry asked the class whether they enjoyed electronics,  Meghan revealed that their son Archie liked construction.

During their time at the school, Harry and Meghan helped to launch an inaugural mental health summit run by local non-profit, GEANCO, which the couple's Archewell Foundation is linked with.

Prince Harry praises mental health awareness

The Duke spoke of the importance of opening up about your mental health, telling the youngsters: "The more you talk about it, the more you can kick stigma away, fall far away into long grass, and then everybody will have the opportunity to be able to share how they're feeling, how they're coping, and then you can help other people.

Meghan talking to students

"So will you promise to us that after today, no more being scared, no more being unsure of mental health. If you are unsure, then ask. Ask your teachers. Ask your friends. Be there for one another. If you see your friend in your class not smiling, what are you gonna do? You gonna check in with them? Are you gonna ask him if they're okay? Because it's okay not to be okay."

Meghan then told the class: "We all have our story. And there's no shame in any single one of your stories. Even on the hardest days or darkest days, everything is a pillar of your strength by each of you being there.  Your teachers see that in you. And we see that in you."

Lili calls Meghan 'mama'

She added of her daughter:  "And interestingly, so our daughter, Lili, she's much, much tinier than you guys. She's about to turn three. And a few weeks ago she looked at me and she would just see the reflection in my eyes. And she said 'Mama, I see me in you'. Oh, now she was talking really, literally. But I hung onto those words in a very different way. And I thought, yes, I do see me and you, and you see me and you, but as I look around this room, I see myself in all of you as well."

For her first engagement of the trip, Meghan looked chic in a tonal tiered dress, accessorising with metallic jewellery and her brunette locks pulled back in a braided ponytail. Meanwhile Harry sported a matching stone-coloured shirt and linen trousers.

The couple have not been joined by their children, Prince Archie, who turned five on Monday, and Princess Lilibet, who turns three in June. Find out why on the latest episode of HELLO!'s A Right Royal Podcast...

LISTEN: Why Archie and Lilibet have not joined Harry and Meghan in Nigeria

This Sunday marks Mother's Day in the US, with Meghan likely to miss out on the occasion with her children, given the length of their Nigeria visit.

The three-day trip marks Harry and Meghan's first official visit to Nigeria. It comes after the Duke met Nigeria’s chief of defence staff in Germany last September at the Invictus Games in Dusseldorf.

Formal welcome

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were officially welcomed to Nigeria by Chief of Defense Staff Christopher Musa during a meeting at the Defence Headquarters in the heart of Abuja.

Harry heaped praise on the country for adopting sport as part of rehabilitation, saying: "You’re not the first country to notice that it not only transforms lives but saves lives. I'm eternally grateful to you all of you for joining the Invictus movement for Nigeria and for every single soul who’s been injured protecting the freedoms of Nigeria."

Speaking about the Nigerian Invictus Games squad, the Duke added: "The team that turned up in Düsseldorf was small but mighty. They danced their way into the stage. They won medals and danced off the stage. They were the life and soul of those games. Our goal now is to help you grow that team and provide as much opportunity and resource here in Nigeria and for the games that are coming at the beginning of next year.

Prince Harry and Meghan met with the Chief of Defence Staff of Nigeria at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja

"And I know there’s been an expression of interest for Nigeria to perhaps host the games in 2029."

Before departing, Harry and Meghan signed the visitors book, with the Duke remarking on his wife's "beautiful handwriting".

The Duchess, who had changed into a all-white pantsuit, chatted with some of the army wives at the Defence Headquarters.  Adenike Keennam, whose husband is in the airforce, said: "I told [Meghan] 'Welcome home'. She gave me a big smile."

She added of the couple: "I think it's significant they’re here in many ways. With people like them who you see on TV or in the papers, to see them in person goes a long way. They are people of peace."

Reunited in London

Harry and Meghan were reunited at Heathrow Airport in London on Thursday, when the Duchess of Sussex took a solo flight from Los Angeles to meet her husband at the airport's VIP Windsor Suite.

The couple subsequently boarded a British Airways flight to Abuja, where they later arrived on the invitation of the chief of defence staff.

The Duchess said during her first day of engagements that she was happy to be 'home'

Meghan wore black trousers and a brown jacket for the journey, while her husband donned a black jacket and trousers. They're thought to be staying at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja during their trip.

Harry and Meghan's first stop will be at a school before the Duke meets injured service members at a military hospital in the afternoon. They'll also attend a training session for charity organisation Nigeria: Unconquered, which collaborates with the Invictus Games, as well as a reception where military families will be honoured.

MORE OF PRINCE HARRY

Meghan is also set to co-host an event of Women in Leadership with Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the director-general of the World Trade Organisation.

On Sunday, the last day of their visit, the pair will attend a basketball camp with Giants of Africa, a cultural reception and a polo fundraiser for Nigeria: Unconquered.

The trip marks Meghan and Harry's first visit to Nigeria as a couple. The country holds a special place for them both, with Meghan having spent time with the Nigerian team at the Invictus Games last year and was even bestowed her own Nigerian name Amira Ngozi Lolo.

While "Amira" translates as warrior princess from a legend, "Ngozi" means blessed and "Lolo" symbolises royal wife.

Bobby Ojeh, the leader of the Nigerian team, told HELLO! last year: " She has the sentimental attachment to Nigeria , so it dawned on us as a team to say why don't we just give Meghan a name.

"She's wonderful, she's just wonderful. The way she embraced [her Nigerian heritage] meant a lot to us as Nigerians and this is the message we take back to Nigeria."

Harry and Meghan's Nigeria visit comes after the Duke marked the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games at St Paul's Cathedral in London on Wednesday, where he was joined by various guests including close relatives of his mother Diana, Princess of Wales.

The service at St Paul's began as King Charles met guests at the first Buckingham Palace garden party of 2024.

The father and son didn't meet during Harry's brief UK visit due to the King's "full programme", according to the Duke's spokesperson.

King Charles and Prince Harry

Keeping the distance.

Prince Harry reportedly declined King Charles’ invitation to stay in a royal residence during his recent trip to London, according to the Sunday Times .

The Duke of Sussex — who used to live at the Frogmore Cottage alongside his wife, Meghan Markle, before stepping down from his royal duties in 2020 — opted to stay in a hotel, per royal correspondent Roya Nikkhah.

King Charles and Prince Harry

Harry landed in the U.K. on May 7 for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, which was hosted at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

At the time, he confirmed through his rep that his dad would be unable to meet with him during his nearly four-day trip abroad.

“In response to the many inquiries and continued speculation on whether or not the duke will meet with his father while in the UK this week, it unfortunately will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full program, ” a spokesperson for the father of two told Page Six on May 7.

“The duke of course is understanding of his father’s diary of commitments and various other priorities and hopes to see him soon.”

Several insiders told Page Six that Harry also extended an invitation to the games to other royal family members. However, they didn’t show up amid ongoing tension .

Harry’s sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, remains out of the public eye as she undergoes cancer treatment.

Prince William and Harry

As for Prince William, their feud stems even deeper as we previously revealed the brothers haven’t talked in over a year following the release of the duke’s 2023 memoir, “ Spare .”

Meanwhile, Harry was met with open arms by his mom Princess Diana’s family as several of them attended the games.

Insiders told us he was embraced by his uncle Earl Spencer and aunt Lady Jane Fellowes at the event Wednesday.
