Review: LEGO 10307 Eiffel Tower (2022)

sondage lego tour eiffel

It’s not every day that LEGO crosses the 10,000-piece mark, or gives us a model that’s almost 1.5 metres (4.8 feet) tall, but that day has arrived with 10307 Eiffel Tower , one of LEGO’s most ambitious and impressive models to date.

Releasing on Black Friday 2022 (that’s 25 November), LEGO revisits the Eiffel Tower at this grand scale, making it the tallest LEGO set ever, and one of the most visually impressive.

Like the French icon, this LEGO set is a marvel of engineering, and I think is one of the best LEGO sets this year, BUT.. it’s certainly not for everyone due to its high price, and most importantly, the sheer size of the model. Even if you can afford it when it launches on LEGO.com on Black Friday, you need to seriously plan out where you’re going to place this set (as well as build it), so this really isn’t in the impulse buy category.

That said, I really enjoyed the build, and the end results, so let’s jump straight into my review!

See below for regional pricing and product links:

  • 10307 Eiffel Tower [US]  – US$629.99
  • 10307 Eiffel Tower [AUS]  – AU$999.99
  • 10307 Eiffel Tower [UK]  – £554.99
  • 10307 Eiffel Tower [EU]  – €629.99
  • 10307 Eiffel Tower [CA]  – CAD$799.99

If you order 10307 Eiffel Tower from 25-28 November, you’ll also qualify for the 40579 Eiffel’s Apartment set, which contains a Gustave Eiffel minifigure!

If you’re planning on ordering the LEGO Eiffel Tower, please consider using these affiliate links as I may receive a small commission with each purchase. It goes a long way in supporting the work I do on the blog!

Special thanks to LEGO for providing this set for review.

The Unboxing Experience

sondage lego tour eiffel

As you can expect from a set this size, the box is huge and weigh almost 13 kgs, so your postman better have strong arms, or you’ll ideally want a trolley to cart it from the LEGO Store to your car.

The unboxing experience was quite nice, the outer box itself is pretty bland with the now ubiquitous big black boring LEGO for Adults box. Opening the box reveals 3 inner boxes, with a really classy and elegant graphic design signifying which stage of the box you’re about to tackle.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Stacked up, the art on the boxes connect to form a blueprint-like diagram of the Eiffel Tower on the side.

The Eiffel Tower is split up into 3 main sections, and each box is fully self-contained, so this is technically a “Build Together” set, and you can share the joy of building with up to 2 other friends, which I recommend as it drastically cut down the build time, and mount of repetition by sharing the load.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Here’s a look at the three instruction manual booklets, which has the shared black and gold motif.

sondage lego tour eiffel

On the inside are plenty of fun facts about the history of the Eiffel Tower, and Gustave Eiffel who was primarily responsible for bringing it to life (although he didn’t contribute the design!), and how this 324m wrought-iron marvel came about and ultimately became one of Europe’s most well-known landmarks.

Admittedly, I didn’t know much about Gustave Eiffel and the Eiffel Tower (France and Paris is on the to-visit list), but after building this set, I would absolutely love to see it with my own eyes sooner rather than later.

The Building Experience

sondage lego tour eiffel

So I was initially dreading the building experience because I feared how repetitive and boring it would be. I still have flashbacks of 10276 Colosseum , which wasn’t the most enjoyable builds due to slightly different tan wedge after another.

I did take the Rok Zgalin Kobe’s advice (I’ll share my interview with him soon!), and had a few Eiffel Tower documentaries, videos and podcasts prepared for the build.

sondage lego tour eiffel

At 10,001 pieces, this is a long build, and it’s not recommended to blitz through it, and I’m pleased to say that I actually had a really enjoyable time building it, going so far as to say that the build itself IS one of the main drawcards of the set.

There are 74 (!!) numbered bags in the LEGO Eiffel Tower, which is the most I’ve ever encountered in a set.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Yes, there are plenty of repetitive sections, and the lattices in particular get pretty dull after the 40th one, and you’re mostly building in dark grey BUT it didn’t drag on.

It took me about 15 hours to complete the build, and because you get the hang of the shapes after a while, and because the Eiffel Tower really is about engineering and precision, you get into a groove pretty quickly.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The build was also very easy to follow and systematic, although there are some tricky bits, but it wasn’t frustrating at all in the slightest, mostly because I was intrigued by the structure, and was really eager to see how LEGO pulled the design off.

And because it’s so large, it’s also really satisfying seeing this incredible structure take shape in front of your very eyes.

The real Eiffel Tower took just over 2 years to build, and was slightly delayed for the opening of the 10th Exposition Universelle (World Fair) in 1889 of which it had been commissioned for, so 15 hours+ of solo building isn’t too bad.

I recorded myself building the set, so do check out this LEGO Eiffel Tower Speed Build to see how it comes together on my Youtube channel.

The Completed Model

It simply cannot be overstated just how huge and tall this model is, and (like the real Eiffel Tower) you’ll want to see it in person to fully appreciate the awe-inspiring scale, design and engineering that went into this set to make it happen.

sondage lego tour eiffel

At 1.49m, this is LEGO’s tallest set yet, but what’s utterly bewildering is how its constructed, and despite its size, the force is distributed equally to all 4 legs at the bottom, and it manages to keep the entire structure up with just these clips on each leg.

Because of its huge footprint and height, this is really a statement piece, much like the LEGO Titanic and something you’ll need to get creative about to display.

sondage lego tour eiffel

It’s likely going to end up on your floor as it looks quite silly on a table, and when it’s placed on ground level, you really get a proper sense of its height, as you use your own body as a frame of reference.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The Eiffel Tower combines different looks from different eras that amalgamate in what designer Rok Zgalin Kobe feels is the “ideal” image and vision of the Eiffel Tower.

In the current day, the base of the Eiffel Tower has plenty of fencing and structures (and crowds!), but this version has sprawling open spaces, with mini trees, bushes, benches and lamp posts on the esplanade at the base.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The trees are quite nice, and are helpful to establish a sense of scale!

sondage lego tour eiffel

On each “leg”, you can also find these mini stalls, or ticket booths where you can hop on the lifts to ascend to the top.

sondage lego tour eiffel

These red and yellow lifts, which you may remember from the original 10181 Eiffel Tower also make a welcome return!

sondage lego tour eiffel

I cannot express just how impressive the engineering and design behind the LEGO Eiffel Tower’s legs are, to hold up the entire structure without using interlocking bricks, but these clips.

The downward force is distributed evenly between all four legs (which fun fact, points to the four cardinal directions), is just so cool to behold, and a great lesson on LEGO engineering.

sondage lego tour eiffel

My least favourite part of the build are these arches, which like the real Eiffel Tower, have no load bearing capabilities and are just there for decorative purposes.

sondage lego tour eiffel

They make use of newly recoloured dark grey roller coaster track to form the curves, which are really aesthetically pleasing, and this is a great new colour for the track.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Unfortunately, I felt like the arches weren’t secured as well as they could, and if you accidentally bump into them (which happens a lot), or shake the legs, the arches tend to dislodge themselves quite easily as they aren’t fastened by enough bricks, and are suspended upside down as well.

sondage lego tour eiffel

That said, on the fist platform, you’ll notice plenty of these repetitive patterns, which aren’t necessarily fun to build, but are really aesthetically pleasing.

sondage lego tour eiffel

On the sides of the Eiffel Tower, 72  names of French  scientists , engineers, and mathematicians are engraved in recognition of their contributions, and they’re represented here by the dark grey “gold bar element”, with 18 on each side!

sondage lego tour eiffel

And here’s a look at the first platform, before we continue upwards.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Here’s a look at the second platform, where you’ll notice the use of new dark grey sausages for the arcs.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The sausage is a most excellent and useful LEGO element I must say.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Here’s the view as we head up.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Of course, each section has more of these red and yellow elevators, slowly making the climb up on the inner collumn.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Repetition and these intricate iron-wrought lattice that make the Eiffel Tower’s aesthetics so iconic draw the eye in, and the techniques employed to create this effect is simple, yet effective.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Here’s the middle section.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The Eiffel Tower narrows as it approaches the pinnacle, and here is the Top Platform, which among other things contains Gustave Eiffel’s apartment, offering commanding views of Paris.

sondage lego tour eiffel

And at the top, amongst a clump of radio antenna, is a brick-built tricolore Flag, which is a direct throwback to the simple French flag on top of the set’s predecessor, 10181 Eiffel Tower .

Fun fact, the Eiffel Tower was meant to be disassembled after 20 years following the Exposition Universelle in 1889, but Gustave was a savvy and cunning operator, and managed to keep the tower intact by making it host scientific experiments, as well as radio antenna, which the French military found useful, and they decided to extend the life of the Eiffel Tower, and it ultimately stands to this day.

sondage lego tour eiffel

To make it easy to transport (it’s not recommended to carry the entire Tower in one piece… although you can), and to clean or move around, the LEGO Eiffel Tower can split into these 3 parts, allowing you to reposition it with ease if you must.

There are no Technic pins holding these sections together, only good ole gravity, and they lock into each other with ease.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Just how tall is the set? I’ll do a few more comparisons soon, possibly in its own separate post, but here’s the LEGO Eiffel Tower next to the 75313 UCS AT-AT , which was 2021’s Black Friday launch.

sondage lego tour eiffel

And for a better frame of reference that hopefully more people can relate with, here it is next to the LEGO 92176 NASA Apollo Saturn which is just over 100cm tall.

sondage lego tour eiffel

And here it is on ground level next to me – I’m about 172cm for reference!

sondage lego tour eiffel

Oh, and don’t forget to stick your phone, or camera underneath for this view.

What I liked:

  • A marvel of LEGO engineering
  • Is the ultimate LEGO display centerpiece with stunning display presence thanks to its height
  • Incredibly fun and relaxing building experience in spite of repetition
  • Great value for its price

What I didn’t like:

  • Will be hard to display and not everyone has the space for it
  • Arches could’ve been secured better
  • Some repetitive sections in the build

FINAL THOUGHTS:

10307 Eiffel Tower was such a pleasant surprise, and I liked it a lot more than I initially thought I would. After seeing it in person in Billund, I was of course impressed by the height and scale, but came away fearing that the build would be bland, torturous and repetitive.

This clearly isn’t the case, and a lot of effort has been put into the building experience to make it quite intuitive, seamless and as pain-free as possible.

From the first bag, I was captured and hooked, and the anticipation in seeing this massive model come together was very enjoyable, and a testament to Rok Zgalin Kobe’s immense talent and efforts.

The end result is stunning, one of the most awe-inspiring retail models that LEGO has ever produced. Seriously, if you were to see 10307 Eiffel Tower at a LEGO Fan Convention, you’d walk away impressed and awed, so being able to translate that into a set you can walk into a store to buy, AND make it accessible, even for new adult builders cannot be overstated.

That said, this isn’t for everyone. I think the set is great value (especially since it’s US$629 instead of US$679.99 ), and you’re left with a huge LEGO showpiece. It’s still a LOT of money, and this ultimately puts it out of reach for many LEGO fans, especially those that have been hit hardest by inflation, or have other more important priorities.

But this isn’t an impulse buy, and not something that you’d be expected to buy every month. Like any other large expensive models that precede it like the 9,090-piece LEGO Titanic , it’s a large purchase that you really have to want, and likely budget and plan for.

Speaking of planning, you definitely want to plan ahead as it has a footprint of 57 x 57cm, and is of course awkwardly tall, so placing it on a desk or shelf doesn’t really work.

sondage lego tour eiffel

While LEGO is targeting a very specific type of customer with 10307 Eiffel Tower (affluent, has enough space and wants a 1.5m Eiffel Tower to build and display), ultimately, I’m glad the set exists.

sondage lego tour eiffel

If you need space, you can also use the set as a very expensive garden ornament. Only half-joking, I think it might look pretty good outdoors.

At its core, this really is a triumph of engineering, and I’m still blown away by the techniques used in the set, and that this is even possible with LEGO bricks.

The aesthetics, size and how accurate it looks are really secondary to me, and that it stands so well constructed pleases me to no end.

If this is the type of LEGO set that appeals to you, and you have the means, I definitely recommend getting 10307 Eiffel Tower, even at launch (25 November), as you’ll get a really neat 40579 Eiffel’s Apartment gift with purchase (GWP) for your trouble, as well as a bunch of other bonuses as part of LEGO’s Black Friday offering .

I’m glad that we now live in an age where LEGO can and is taking huge risks like this. While the second half of 2022 has seen many disappointing big and expensive releases, 10307 Eiffel Tower bucks the trend by delivering a satisfying and exceptional LEGO experience that’s unlike anything that has come before it.

Like the Titanic, I can see this set doing really well with fans, and those wanting a LEGO experience like no other that befits the LEGO Icons branding.

Rating   and score: 4/5  ★★★ ★✰

Build [4]  – Really enjoyed the flow of the build, despite the repetition. It was quite relaxing, much like puzzle building. Real Value [4]  – It’s expensive but good value, especially if you factor in the Eiffel Apartment GWP Innovation [5]  – Incredible LEGO engineering at work here, without the need for new or fancy elements. Just good ole math and design ingenuity. Coolness [5]  – One of the world’s best known landmarks, at this scale, made out of LEGO. Doesn’t get any cooler than that Keepability [4]  – You will likely not disassemble it as it’s a big investment, unless you really need the space back

The Brothers Brick

World's no. 1 source for lego news, reviews, and fan creations., lego icons 10307 – eiffel tower: say bonjour to the tallest and second largest lego set ever [review].

LEGO recently revealed their latest entry into their Icons theme – the LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower . This massive set has 10,001 pieces (making it the second highest part count behind the 31203 World Map mosaic ), and at 149 cm / 58″, stands as the tallest LEGO set ever. It will be available from the LEGO Shop Online starting November 25th for US $629.99  |  CAN $799.99  |  UK £554.99 . We’ve been fortunate enough to get to look at an early copy, so come along as we build this key piece of the Paris skyline!

sondage lego tour eiffel

The LEGO Group provided The Brothers Brick with an early copy of this set for review. Providing TBB with products for review guarantees neither coverage nor positive reviews.

Other LEGO Eiffel Towers

This isn’t the first time LEGO has released a set featuring this iconic landmark. In fact, it’s been a recurring theme for almost two decades.  Things started off in 2005 with  LLCA25 Las Vegas Skyline, Eiffel Tower, a LLCA Ambassador Pass Exclusive set. In 2007 the general populace saw the release of the 3428 piece 10181 Eiffel Tower 1:300 Scale . In 2013 we had the 21019 The Eiffel Tower Architecture set, followed by another Architecture entry, 20144 Paris in 2019. 2020 had a bit of fridge decoration with 854011 Eiffel Tower Magnet Build . And, most recently, in 2022 we had the 40568 Paris Postcard .

sondage lego tour eiffel

While each of these sets has things to recommend them, they were all limited by the elements available at the time, and by the constraints of recreating such a huge structure in a very small scale. Even the 10181 Eiffel at 1:300 suffers from a very blocky look. But this time LEGO has gone all out, creating something closer to 1:216 scale.

For the curious, since the real tower is 1083′ tall at the tip, a minifigure scaled version would have to be about 1:44, or over 24′ tall. Reducing all the way down to the nanofigure (the tiny minifigure trophy/statue) scale of about 1:165 results in a tower about 6.5′ tall. Some might argue that LEGO could have gone for that benchmark with this set, but c’mon. This one feels big and expensive enough already, thank you.

Finally, a word on color. Did you notice anything about all the sets above? They all use either light or dark grey to portray the tower. And that’s not correct!  In fact, it’s   never been grey ! Since 1968 the tower has been painted in what’s called “Eiffel Tower Brown”.  I get why LEGO has needed to opt for grey elements, but it does downgrade the accuracy of every model a fair bit.

Unboxing the boxes

The outer packaging for this set helps set the tone for the building experience. It’s massive – a 15″ by x18″ by 22.5″ box, tab sealed along two sides. The overall look is the standard “adult collector” packaging, with a black background, minimal logos, a greeble strip along the bottom, and a mandated 18+ age range. I normally gripe about that mandate, and once again the set could probably be handled by a younger builder, but only one with a severe overabundance of patience. This is not a set aimed at the casual builder.

The front of the box shows the full tower, and has a small inset graphic on the upper right touting the dimensions of the set ( 58.5″ / 149 cm high and 22.5″ / 57 cm wide).

sondage lego tour eiffel

The short sides of the box show the tower at close to 1:1 scale, with the image wrapping around onto the top of the box.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The back of the box has another large shot of the LEGO tower, along with insets showing the four-part construction and a view looking up from the base. There’s also a shot of the real-world tower, and a lifestyle photo of the set taking up someone’s entire kitchen table.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Opening up the flaps reveals a portrait and quote from Gustave Eiffel, translated into several languages. (Different languages on either side, too!)

sondage lego tour eiffel

“There is an attraction and a charm inherent in the colossal that is not subject to ordinary theories of art… The tower will be the tallest edifice ever raised by man. Will it, therefore, be imposing in its own way?”

Good question, Gustave.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Moving on, like other giant sets like the 75192 UCS Millennium Falcon , there’s more unboxing to do. Inside the outer box are three smaller boxes. As indicated by the graphics on the leading edge, each box contains the parts needed to build a section of the tower.

sondage lego tour eiffel

In addition to the friendly numbering in the upper left corner, the section of the tower contained in each box is also indicated by the graphic on the front of the package. The portions of the tower that aren’t included in a section are shown as tan render, making it easy to tell what you’ll be working on.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Since each box is so self-contained, we’ll be looking at each individually.

Box 1 – The Base

The first box, unsurprisingly, focuses on the the bottom of the tower. Looking closely at the art on the box, you can see that this step won’t include any of the actual metal tower at all; just the ground and greenery at the base.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Inside the box are fourteen numbered part bags, five unnumbered bags containing large plates, and four loose 16×16 black plates.

sondage lego tour eiffel

There is also a paper envelope that contains the instruction manual.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The instruction booklet, helpfully labeled “Book 1”, is center stapled and 92 pages long.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Like other Icon and “adult collector” type sets, the first few pages give some background on the subject at hand. The set’s design team also get some coverage, with a two page spread. Lead designer Rok Žgalin Kobe talks a bit about the design challenges and how the team approached them.

sondage lego tour eiffel

While this set doesn’t offer any new molds, it does have a wide range of interesting parts and recolors. For this first box, the standouts were these road baseplates in olive green, and dark tan.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The base for the tower starts off by constructing the four corners. This is an early hint at how many times you’ll be seeing “x4” or “x8” or “x10000” while working your way through the build. A small Easter egg comes in the selection of colors for the interior bricks – the red, white, and blue mirror the hues of the French flag that will eventually top the tower.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Next up are four sets of braces that will form the inner edges of the base.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Connecting everything, you at last start to get a feel for how massive this set is going to be. The base fits on my work table, but only just. A layer of road baseplates helps lock things together.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The first X16 step is making these small flower beds.

sondage lego tour eiffel

They slot into the olive green bases, and create the classic quad that was originally under the Eiffel tower.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The next step is adding the small buildings under the base of each leg. The interior bricks are color coded – red for North/South and yellow for East/West.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Adding details to the base means that the meager “x4” construction multiplier is about to be tossed in favor of finger-shredding levels of repetitive detail building. First up are 32 stacks of 1×1 round plant plates. Then a slightly more complex 3-piece lamppost at x48. You think you’re getting a break with only x8 on the small trees, but putting the leaves on the center stalks is a warning.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The warning was this: “You’re about to enter a world of pain.” There may be only 8 of these larger tree assemblies, but each one consists of 30 1×1 round leaf elements, 5 central branches, and a 3-piece trunk. That’s a total of 38 pieces per tree, or 304 parts for the group. Which is more pieces than you see in some entire LEGO sets. And did I mention the branch/leaf combos are really hard on the fingers to assemble? Well, they are.

They sure do look nice, though.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Placing all of the decorative elements on the base completes box one. Be forewarned that you’re going to be putting the trees and lamps back onto the base throughout the rest of the build. They’re super easy to knock off.

sondage lego tour eiffel

But, putting the camera down at “ground level” you really get a feel for how immersive this model is going to be when complete. It already looks like a gorgeous day in the park.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Box 2 – The Base of the Tower

Box two contains the base level of the tower. Looking at the box art, you can see the small slice of the overall construction covered. But when you open it up, you realize there’s a LOT of building in this portion.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Inside the box are 22 numbered part bags, covering steps 19-40. There are also two unnumbered bags containing roller coaster track and flex tubing, and a last unnumbered bag with grill plates.  A second carboard envelope identical to the one in box one rounds out the cast.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Inside the envelope is the second instruction manual. This one is 200 pages long and perfect bound. It doesn’t have any additional informational splash pages, but is focused only on the building steps.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Parts that caught my eye in this box were these Roller Coaster ramp pieces. This the their first appearance in dark grey, and you’ll get 8 of them.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Construction starts with a x2 assembly of the tower’s leg. As we saw in the base, the north/south and east/west legs are color coded red and yellow. This means that rather than a x4 slog, you have to go through two sets of x2, with the only difference being the accent color on a few plates and tiles.

Each side of the leg has similar construction – a beam of stacked plates topped with cross-beams.

sondage lego tour eiffel

These beams attach with clips to a square plate base, with Technic beams that will be used to join the four sections together. Note the yellow 2×2 triangle tile – that’s one of the colored elements I was mentioning.

sondage lego tour eiffel

A bit of design that caught my attention is the mount for the color-coded double-decker elevators. A 2×2 turntable is braced at an angle by use of two 1×1 quarter circle tiles that wedge in-between the studs on the surrounding brick. This allow for a two-stud connection point, a nice bit of stability as these leg assemblies are going to get knocked around a lot while trying to get everything attached.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The tan plate is the base of the leg, with the Technic beams at the top forming a “studs down” ring at the top.

sondage lego tour eiffel

After an hour or two of building, all four legs are assembled and ready to attach to the base.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The legs slot into the base and lean together, matching up using the red and yellow color keys. The Technic beams at the top are connected, and a layer of plate is applied to help get things into alignment. I had some issues at this point, as the plates at the top of each leg kept detaching due to stress from not having them “lean in” at the correct angle on all four legs. As it was, you can still see some real bowing of the plates on the connection ring at the top.

sondage lego tour eiffel

After some work on aligning things and adjusting the crossbar assemblies, though, the top of the first section was more or less level. Sort of.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Things were still very wobbly, so I was glad to see the next building section was adding some support structures. Each of the four sides gets a decorative arch. These are mounted studs-down, attaching in the gap between the tops of the legs. The lower portion is mounted on 1×2 hinge bricks, allowing the main body to swing out to align with the legs.

sondage lego tour eiffel

As hoped, the arches added a bit of locking to the upper edge of the legs. It’s still very fiddly, though, and the square brace is prone to pop off. And when you try and seat it firmly, the detail elements on the interior of the legs want to fall off. So it’s not perfect, but once you have it more or less set, you can leave it. The weight of the upper levels will eventually help ensure everything is forced into alignment.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Pausing to look at the structure, it really is a beautiful build. You may note that a lot of the cross beams don’t read as level right now – but going back through and tapping them all into visual alignment really needs to be saved for later. The addition of some flex tubing along the bottom edge helps clean up the lines and reinforce the look of the arches.

sondage lego tour eiffel

I had thought box two was going to be “just” the lower legs, but there’s more building to be done. The lower part of the 2nd tier awaits! Of course it starts out with putting 144 1×1 round plates along the outer edge. What fun!

sondage lego tour eiffel

The center ring of the level has a bit of clever construction. The grates are all mounted on 1×2 hinges, and are locked into the correct angle by leaning against the modified 1×1 bricks with side studs.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Returning to the outer ring, an outer layer of 1×2 ingot tiles adds some nice texture.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Turns out there’s a bit of meaning to those ingots, too. One of the factoids spread throughout the instructions gives us the inside scoop:

“Gustave Eiffel engraved the names of 72 French scientists, engineers and mathematicians into the tower. On the LEGO model the names are represented by 72 Ingot pieces.”

sondage lego tour eiffel

The outer and inner rings are connected with some beams, and a layer of grates are placed on top to lock things together.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Then we return to the outer edge, adding some complex (and repetitive ) scroll work.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The next step has 128 1×1 round plates as part of the edging. We’re rapidly closing in on LEGO Art mosaic levels of stud placement.

sondage lego tour eiffel

I can’t really complain about the end results, though. The detailing looks incredible.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Finishing the instructions in Book Two, we can slot the start of the 2nd level into place. this also has the benefit of squaring up the lower legs and providing a safe “push point” to try and lock together the lower leg construction. Just don’t go crazy and push too hard. You really don’t want to have to start over.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Box 3 – The Top

Entering the final stretch, we move on to box three. As the illustration shows, this one contains most of the vertical height of the tower.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Inside the box was the expected white carboard envelope that contains the instruction book. A surprise was a second white box that contained some of the part bags. These bags were spread out across the building areas (Step numbers from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s) with no obvious reason for them to be grouped together.

sondage lego tour eiffel

In total, there are 34 numbered parts bags, spanning steps 41 through 74. There’s also a final unnumbered bag containing grill plates.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The final instruction book is perfect bound and 252 pages long.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The interesting pieces for this box are more rare-ish and recolored parts.  The 2-plate tall blocks in dark grey are nice to get in quantity, and the dark grey hotdogs are the height of French cuisine.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Things start out with building the legs for the 2nd level. The basic construction is very similar to the lower legs, starting out with a square plate base with Technic beam bracing.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The legs themselves area also nearly identical in styling, connecting to both top and bottom plates via clips.

sondage lego tour eiffel

There isn’t any red/yellow color coding on this level, so orientation isn’t super important. You do build two of the legs first, attach them, then go back for a nearly identical build for the other two. The shorter spans and closer Technic connections means that this level is a lot more sturdy feeling that the lower level.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Locking everything together, have a nice solid section of tower. The inverted Technic beams at the top do have the same problem of wanting to pop off the plates at the top of the legs due to the flex from non-perfectly aligned leg angles.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Speaking of the lower level, here’s a shot of the two together. You can get a feel for how things are starting to come together. We’re also to the point where my (rather large) backdrop is struggling to keep up with the size of the set.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The third base follows the same strategy seen at the join between the first and second levels. A series of plates and Technic beams form a hollow for the previous section’s top to slot into.  The form factor is decreasing, making this a slightly faster build.

sondage lego tour eiffel

At the center of the level, a hole for a Technic beam is exposed, another concession to the need for stability as things go vertical.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Another cute detail is the use of those dark grey hot dogs for curved metalwork.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The center strut is made from four brick-built beams attached via clips at the top and bottom.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Support beams are connected with Technic rods and locked into the center of the assembly. Small colored elevators are added, giving the model a bit of a “Seek and find” treat. A second set of large beams go around the central tower, creating the framework for the vertical rise.

sondage lego tour eiffel

More latticework is built, again with a very similar build to what we’ve seen on the earlier levels. These slot into the larger framework and require quite a bit of fiddling to get all the crossbeams aligned.

sondage lego tour eiffel

This looks like a complete section, but it’s actually just the first half of the third level. There’s still more building to go!

sondage lego tour eiffel

You can slot it onto the second tier to test the fit, if you want.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The next bit of tower starts with another support beam tower, with another couple of elevator cars. Another set of brick-built beams will surround this core.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The crossbars are getting a lot smaller as we reach the top. The same general set of parts is still used, though. This does unify the look, as a change in technique would have really stood out.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Once this section is complete, it attaches to the lower half and is secured with four 2×2 tiles at the join.

sondage lego tour eiffel

At long last we’ve reached the top of the tower. A small ring of windows is fleshed out with transparent 1×1 and 1×2 plate.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The cap continues with more grey hot dogs. The pigeons love ’em.

sondage lego tour eiffel

And voila! The very last thing to be put together is the french flag. A welcome burst of color after slogging through a mostly monochromatic build.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Setting the cap on top of the third level completes the set!

sondage lego tour eiffel

The finished model

The completed tower stands just under five feet tall. It’s pretty glorious. At least…it was.

You see, after spending 20+ hours this week on assembling and documenting this build, I was a little punch drunk. When it came time to move my backdrop and put the Eiffel Tower on the floor so I could actually have enough clearance for the whole thing, I didn’t notice that my lighting kit was in a precarious state. The cords were stretched too tight and…well….

sondage lego tour eiffel

But that’s the nice thing about LEGO – you can always rebuild things! A couple of hours or repair work later, and I was able to get some documentation of the completed tower. One observation from the repair work – the first level was the one that required the most work. The top bracing ring still didn’t really lock into place well, and the whole assembly was just a wobbly as it was the first time around until the upper levels put some weight onto it.

Anyway! Here’s some thoughts on the completed Eiffel Tower!

The metalwork looks great, although you’ll want to spend some time aligning the crossbars once the weight has settled.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Even the view from the underside is accurate to the Eiffel tower. Not that anyone is likely to casually experience this angle in person. Reaching in with your phone is about the only way to see this, and you’re going to knock over a lot of those trees and lampposts in the process.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The red and yellow double-decker elevators are a fun detail to look for, and a tiny spot of color in all that (inaccurate) dark grey.

sondage lego tour eiffel

The view from the ground is really nice. This is the landscape as it existed when the tower first opened. These days, according to my friend Mara, it’s more just long lines of tourists waiting for a chance to ride up to the top.

sondage lego tour eiffel

There are even little notches in the base so you can get your fingers in there to brace things when trying to pick things up. Just be sure to break it into the separate tower sections first!

sondage lego tour eiffel

There aren’t any play features, but that’s probably for the best. Although the completed model is pretty sturdy, you don’t want to push you luck with moving it around a lot, or staging adventures like the start of the second Christopher Reeve Superman movie. (Although a nanoscale Superman and Lois would almost be in scale…)

Displaying the tower

One of the big problems with this set is that…well…it’s big. While the Titanic and Millennium Falcon are just as huge, but they’re also short. You can fit them on top of a bookcase, or maybe shell out the bucks for a transparent coffee table to house them. The Eiffel Tower is nearly five feet tall, and that presents a bit more of a challenge. Not everyone has 10′ ceilings, so putting this on a shelf (assuming you have one deep enough) may not be feasible. It’s far too massive to be a centerpiece of a normal table – it’d block line of sight, as well as probably taking up most of the tabletop.

I did find a holiday-appropriate solution, though! Just wrap that sucker in lights and shove it in a corner! Instant Christmas tree stand in! Just be sure to wall it off from the Roomba.

sondage lego tour eiffel

And…if you want to get extra creative – and have the parts on hand – well, there’s no reason you can’t make the whole thing just a little more…super.

sondage lego tour eiffel

Yeah, that’s Superman propelling a bomb-laden elevator into space. Merry Christmas!

Conclusion and recommendation

If feels like LEGO has been leaning into “super massive” sets in recent years. Capitalizing on larger budgets of adult fans, they’ve pulled out the stops and gone for spectacular builds that show just what LEGO bricks can make when you have enough of them. It’d be hard to describe The Eiffel Tower set in any other terms. It’s spectacular. And expensive.

The build gets a bit tedious and finger-bruising at times from repetition, but the designers did a good job of varying the order of build tasks so it manages to avoid feeling like too much of a slog. There are interesting build techniques to learn, and this model is a master class in detail work. I can’t recommend it as a speed build challenge, as you’ll get the most enjoyment if you can take your time and appreciate each part of the construction.

For $630 US, you get 10,001 pieces, or 10,000 pieces and a brick separator if you want to count it that way. That works out to just over six cents per piece – not a bad number. It’s unlikely that too many people will be using this as a parts pack (unless they need a LOT of dark grey), but there are a good mix of elements. The downside is that many of them are massive quantities of smaller parts, and there are no new molds (and only a couple of recolors) to tempt the part-hounds. Maybe that would be different if LEGO had licensed the actual Eiffel tower brown color and done a special run of parts just for this set. (Think Maersk Blue on steroids.) But I shudder to think how expensive a set that like would have been.

The sheer number of times LEGO has revisited the Eiffel Tower in recent years says there’s likely to be some real consumer interest in this set, but there’s still the issue of what to do with it once you’ve built it. It’s far too large to be easily displayed. But I suppose if you’re shelling out the money for this kit, you probably already have somewhere in mind.

How about you? Do you have room in your heart (and your wallet) (and your home) for this set? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower will be available November 25th from the LEGO Shop Online for US $629.99  |  CAN $799.99  |  UK £554.99 . It may also available via third-party sellers on Amazon and eBay .

The LEGO Group sent The Brothers Brick an early copy of this set for review. Providing TBB with products for review guarantees neither coverage nor positive reviews.

The box size has a place holder that needs to be filled in!

' src=

@Guido – Thanks for the catch. Updated!

' src=

Thank you for the review. It amazes me that someone will buy this set. I wonder how many copies of the set Lego plans to sell.

' src=

I believe the Eiffel Tower scene is near the beginning of Superman II, the 2nd Christopher Reeve Superman film.

' src=

The Eiffel Tower was seen in Superman II, not the first movie. The bomb that’s planted on the tower is flown into space by Superman and when it blows up, it frees the 3 villains from the phantom zone.

' src=

Any news on the review of the new Hogwarts express?

' src=

My 10181 tower remains the most difficult set to display (at least the Saturn V can be displayed horizontally on stands). How on earth anyone could display this is beyond me.

' src=

Excellent review. I appreciate your details about stability, new build techniques, etc. It really gives me a feel for what to expect.

You asked who might be interested in this set…ME. I love the detail work and repetition doesn’t bother me. Where to display, hmmm…I will find a place, not to worry. Do you know if LEGO can safely be displayed outside, or will the color fade, etc? The flower garden seems like a marvelous place to enjoy this set!

@Mark – I really wouldn’t recommend putting this one outside unless you’re willing to glue a lot of it. It’s stable – but only just. Outside it’s going to fall apart quickly. I don’t think the dark grey is prone to much sun-reactivity though, that’s usually white brick in my experience.

@John and @MacDuff – Right you are. I had crossed wires with the Zod scene. Things have been updated in this review quite a bit when it comes to Superman stuff.

' src=

I am so beyond tempted to blow my luxury budget on this.

The stability I am questioning though because is it really unstable or is it just not stabilized — I am seeing dozens of places you could completely hide stabilizing parts.

I wonder with LEGO’s diving into these huge sets if we might see the burj. XD 42,500 pieces and you need to find somewhere to put a 14 foot lego build. XD

But in all seriousness, if LEGO is going to go all in on the huge buildings, I would not be opposed to something like a flatiron building or FLW’s Robie House at minifigure scale.

Review LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower

Review LEGO Icons 10307 Tour Eiffel

Review LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower

Review LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower

sondage lego tour eiffel

sondage lego tour eiffel

Review LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower

Review LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower

sondage lego tour eiffel

sondage lego tour eiffel

sondage lego tour eiffel

Review LEGO Icons 10307 Eiffel Tower

FALL IN LOVE WITH THE LEGO® EIFFEL TOWER – THE TALLEST SET YET! 15th November 2022:  The LEGO Group has today revealed its tallest build yet – the breath-taking new LEGO® Eiffel tower set. One of the world’s most recognisable landmarks, the new LEGO set will immediately transport you to the heart of Paris. Embodying the famous landmark’s height and standout architecture, this towering LEGO set reaches a magnificent 149cm / 58inches / 4.8ft tall once built, making it the ultimate statement in brick form. A magnificent way to add a new display piece to your home, the 10,001 piece set is designed to authentically replicate the momentous wrought iron tower – complete with the beautiful truss-work, three observation platforms, landscaping, elevators, an office at the top and a broadcast tower and the Tricolore flag at its peak. The set can also be separated into four sections, making it manageable to build, move and play with. The Eiffel tower was constructed from 1887 to 1889 as the centrepiece of the 1889 World’s Fair. Despite receiving initial criticism for its design, it has since become a global, cultural icon and one of the most recognisable structures in the world. Describing the process of designing the new set, Rok Žgalin Kobe, LEGO Designer comments: “We wanted to find the ultimate LEGO expression for the engineering and architectural masterpiece that is the Eiffel tower. We followed the structural principles of the original tower as closely as the LEGO System would allow. During the build you’ll uncover interesting, novel LEGO building techniques that bring the tower’s architectural features to life in LEGO bricks. Once complete you can imagine the breath-taking feeling of standing at the top and looking across the rich history of the city of Paris. It is the perfect set for travel and architecture fans alike.” The LEGO Eiffel Tower set is available from 25th November 2022 via LEGO Stores and at  LEGO.com/Eiffel  at the recommended retail price of $629.99 / €629.99 / £554.99.

Lego’s new Eiffel Tower set is taller than an average seven-year-old child

And unlike a trip to paris, the five-foot-tall lego set with 10,001 pieces only costs $629.99..

A five-foot tall Lego version of the Eiffel Tower, sitting on a table in a bright and airy living room.

Who needs to travel the globe when you can bring the world’s biggest landmarks to your own home in plastic brick form? Lego has announced its tallest set to date with the new 10,001-piece Eiffel Tower, soaring 149cm / 59 inches tall when fully built. It’s the latest in Lego’s Icons line , joining the ranks of other legendary hallmarks of human history such as the Titanic, the Roman Colosseum, and the Atari 2600 — naturally. The Lego Eiffel Tower will be sold in Lego stores and on its site beginning November 25th for $629.99.

The Eiffel Tower may be the tallest of all Lego sets so far, but it’s the second-biggest in terms of brick count — trailing the Lego World Map by about 1,700 pieces. Though if you’re anxious about its massive height presenting issues in your home, the design allows you to separate it into four sections to build or move it with a little more ease.

Five feet of Parisian wonder for $629.99

Once fully assembled, the tower encompasses a green space at its base, three observation decks, elevators, and an office at the top. And when you plant the French flag at its peak as the pièce de résistance, you have to give a little chef’s kiss and whisper, “C’est magnifique.” I’m pretty sure that’s in the instructions somewhere.

Sorry to make you scroll like that, but this thing is friggin’ taaaaaaall.

As someone who took nearly 36 hours to build a 7,500-piece Lego Millennium Falcon, I can comfortably say that assembling this many gray and silver bricks will most likely be a time-consuming (yet fun) project. But hey, it’s much cheaper than a trip to France, and when you’re done, you’ll always have a five-foot architectural wonder in your home to make you think of the City of Light — at least until it’s time to move.

I, too, would happily stare upon it and ponder, “Okay great, now what?”

AMAZING WAY TO DISPLAY YOUR TOWER

WELL LITE EASY TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS SHIPPED QUICKLY GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. WHATS NOT TO LIKE?

A lot of work but great upgrade

The room for improvement: The photos have a few focus issues making them harder to follow and a few had me make more assumptions than I was comfortable with because they essentially skipped what we were supposed to do. I appreciate the Lego-like image instructions but some direction text would have greatly helped me and my confidence. Also some of the wound up cables (for neatness in packing) were hard to undo without causing kinks. I was very afraid of them breaking. The color programmed modes don’t let you change to the same colors. I may just nothave the remote figured out yet but it doesn’t reliably do the same thing twice. Put a piece of tape to mark where to start them to get the right length of tails when you’re done. Maybe 1/2 way points too and capture that in the photos so you can adjust if you’re not at the right spot without gauging to unwind it all. Also what is the thick USB cable for? I can’t find the photo for what to do with it.

The good: you start worrying that it’s not enough lights and you should have gone with the more expensive competitor kit but it really surprises you when you turn it on. These review photos are accurate. It looks great. They’re delicate and harder than the Lego kit was to build (and frustrating because there are parts of the Lego kit that are very determined to fall off while doing the lights). It also made me the envy of every Lego geek friend I have! Totally worth it. They’ve put a ton of work into putting this kit…

Extraordinaire

Specifications

Presenting the LEGO® Architecture interpretation of one of the most iconic landmarks ever constructed – The Eiffel Tower! Designed and built by French entrepreneur, Gustave Eiffel, the original 324-meter-tall masterpiece of wrought iron engineering formed the grand entrance to the 1889 World’s Fair, held in Paris to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. During construction, the 18,038 wrought iron elements making up the tower’s lattice structure were bolted together at Eiffel’s factory on the outskirts of Paris, before being transported to the site, hoisted into place by steam-powered cranes operating from the elevator shafts, and assembled using no less than 2.5 million individual rivets. The resulting structure was extremely rigid and over the years has withstood storms, floods and everything else mother nature has thrown at it. Today, The Eiffel Tower is one of the world’s most popular landmarks, attracting millions of curious visitors from around the world each year. With this exceptional model, you can now build your very own 321-piece Eiffel Tower in LEGO brick form and display it in your home, office or wherever you like!

  • Build a detailed model of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France!
  • Includes collectible booklet containing information about the design, architecture and history of the building
  • LEGO Architecture building toys are compatible with all LEGO construction sets for creative building
  • The Eiffel Tower measures 12 inches high, 4 inches wide, and 4 inches deep

Eiffel Tower from the gardens

15 essential things to know about the Eiffel Tower

Wednesday 4 March 2020

Modified the 27/12/23

Who built the Eiffel Tower?

The Eiffel Tower was built from 1887 to 1889 by French engineer Gustave Eiffel , whose company specialized in building metal frameworks and structures. Gustave Eiffel is at the origin of many metallic works in Europe including the Porto Viaduct (Portugal), the Viaduct du Garabit (France) and the Budapest train station (Hungary).

Gustave Eiffel's company, that was located in Levallois Perret, very near Paris, France, also built the metal framework for another world-famous monument: the Statue of Liberty (New York, United States), designed by Auguste Bartholdi and offered to the United States as a gift from France to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence in 1886.

What kind of metal is the Eiffel Tower made of?

The Eiffel Tower is made of iron, not steel. The puddle iron that makes up the Eiffel Tower's structure came from the Pompey forges (East of France). The iron plates and beams produced through the puddling process were then preassembled in the Eiffel factories in Levallois Perret using rivets.

Finally, these pieces were taken to the Eiffel Tower construction site to be mounted. The prefab system is what allowed them to build the Eiffel Tower in a record time of 2 years, 2 months and 5 days.

Eiffel Tower structure

What is puddle iron?

The iron used to build the Eiffel Tower went through a refining process called puddling which eliminated the excess carbon when the ore was melted. Following this process, you obtain almost pure iron, which was, according to Gustave Eiffel at that time, the best and most robust of materials .

To protect it from corrosion, the iron is covered with a thick coat of paint that has to be renewed every 7 years. This repainting schedule was recommended by Gustave Eiffel himself and is still respected to date.

Why was the Eiffel Tower built?

The Eiffel Tower was built to be one the main attractions at the Paris World's Fair in 1889. That year, the World's Fair covered the entire Champ de Mars in Paris and its focus was the vast constructions in iron and steel that were the great industrial advancement of that time.

First called the 300-meter Tower, it soon took the name of the man who built it, Gustave Eiffel. The Tower opened to the public the same day as the World's Fair, on May 15, 1889.

Controversy over the Tower raged in the art world before and during its construction, but thanks to the audacity of its architecture and design, visitors and Parisians immediately fell under its charm and more than 2 million people toured it in the first year.

Universal Exhibition

Why is the Eiffel Tower famous ?

Since it was built and opened to the public in 1889, the Eiffel Tower instantly gained an international fame, as it was then the tallest building in the world. Its peculiar iron silhouette instantly traveled across the world in the newspapers. Built for the 1889 Exposition universelle (World's Fair) which took place in Paris, Gustave Eiffel's masterpiece aimed to show to the world the audacity of the French in the industrial and technological domains at the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution.

Being the first tower to reach the height of 1,000 feet - twice as any structure previously erected- the Eiffel Tower remained the highest building in the world during 40 years: until the Empire State Building was erected in New York in 1931!

Since 1889, the Eiffel Tower has always been opened for visits (except during the Word War 2 and the Covid-19 Pandemic): nearly 330 million visitors experienced the magic of the ascent -by elevator, or by the stairs - and discovered t8he magnificent view over Paris. Thanks to its universal power of attraction, it's the most visited monument in the world, with nearlty 7M visitors each year.

Is the Eiffel Tower the symbol France?

Its height and unique silhouette floating above the Paris landscape quickly made the Eiffel Tower one of the most popular attractions in Paris. The Tower's destiny is closely linked to that of the city of Paris, the capital of France and the Eiffel Tower's owner.

Since the beginning, the Eiffel Tower drew attention and served as the theatre for numerous events in the life of Paris and France: the grandiose fireworks on July 14 ("Bastille Day"), national-level events and large-scale sporting events.

The Tower can be seen from many and various points around Paris and its suburbs. It is photographed, drawn, filmed, and replicated in all kinds of circumstances. It is the monument photographed by all visitors to Paris. It naturally slipped into the role of symbolizing France in the collective imagination, in movies and graphic arts but also in literature and poetry.

What does the Eiffel Tower represent for French people?

For 130 years, the Eiffel Tower has been a powerful and distinctive symbol of the city of Paris, and by extension, of France. At first, when it was built for the 1889 World's Fair, it impressed the entire world by its stature and daring design, and symbolized French know-how and industrial genius.

A monument known around the world and a unique tourist attraction, the Eiffel Tower has loyally accompanied the people of Paris and its suburbs in their daily life. Rising to a height of 330 meters, it can be seen from all over Paris, and beyond, day and night until 1 am thanks to its lighting, the twinkling illumination at fixed times and its beacon that reaches out to 80 km, at 360 degrees.

The Eiffel Tower has witnessed and sometimes been an actor in important events, both sumptuous and tragic, in France's history. In its early years the Eiffel Tower was a productive laboratory for scientific experiments, in particular for wireless telegraphy, which saved it from destruction after the initially scheduled period of 20 years. The

Tower's destiny is also intimately linked to technical advancements in radio and television. The TDF installations and emitters at its summit broadcast all the digital terrestrial television and radio channels to the 12 million inhabitants of île de France.

Today, the Eiffel Tower's lights are turned off at night to honor the victims of dramatic events around the world. Even more than a symbol, it has become a means of expression for the city of Paris and all of France.

Why is the Eiffel Tower shaped like the A letter?

We have to first put the Eiffel Tower back in its historical context. It was two engineers who worked in Gustave Eiffel's company who, in 1884, imagined building a metal tower 300 meters high for the 1889 World's Fair in Paris.

These engineers were specialists in large-scale metallic structures like bridges, railway stations, viaducts, etc. It was only natural that the first sketch of the 300-meter Tower, issued from the calculations made by these two engineers, shows a pylon with 4 legs, each made of 4 robust beams linked together by open-web- joists that rise diagonally to meet at the summit.

All these shapes and curves simply recall the biggest viaducts built by Eiffel around the same time!

Maria Pia Bridge - Porto

How many days did it take to build the Eiffel Tower?

The Eiffel Tower was built in record time: 2 years, 2 months and 5 days. From late January 1887 to March 31, 1889. In addition to the technical and architectural prowess , the Tower's rapid construction also represented an unparalleled achievement at that time.

Is it illegal to take pictures of the Eiffel Tower at night?

There is nothing that says you can't take photos of the Eiffel Tower at night. Private individuals are free to take pictures of the Eiffel Tower at night for private use or to share on social networks, for example.

The situation is different for professionals: the Eiffel Tower's various illuminations (golden, sparkles, beacon, and illuminations for special events) are protected by copyright. Any nighttime pictures of the Eiffel Tower used by professionals for professional ends thus require previous authorization from SETE (Société d’Exploitation de la tour Eiffel - the Eiffel Tower management firm) and eventually the payment of usage rights.

Is the Eiffel Tower a work of art?

In the beginning, no one thought of the Tower as a work of art because it was the work of architects and engineers! The idea for a 300-meter-high tower came, at that time, as part of preparations for the 1889 World's Fair.

A competition was launched for the Fair, in 1886, to "study the possibility of raising an iron tower with a square base of 125 meters per side and a height of 300 meters." Gustave Eiffel's project, designed by the engineers Maurice Koechlin and Emile Nouguier, and the architect Stephen Sauvestre , was chosen from among 107 other projects.

Eiffel Tower in spring

How many people died during the construction of the Eiffel Tower?

There were no serious injuries or deaths during the construction of the Eiffel Tower.

What does Eiffel Tower mean?

The Eiffel Tower took the name of its creator, Gustave Eiffel , 19th century French entrepreneur and engineer who specialized in building large-scale metal structures (bridges, train stations, viaducts).

How many people visit the Eiffel Tower every year?

A must-see for everyone who visits Paris, a little over 6 million people climb the Eiffel Tower every year. The Eiffel Tower is open every day, and even at night, from 9:30 am to 11:45 pm, and in summer from 9:00 am to 12:45 am.

How many levels does the Eiffel Tower have?

The Tower has three levels that are open to the public: the 1st level, 2nd level and top. The 2nd floor has 2 levels, as does the summit (an enclosed lower level, and an open-air level above). Our visitors can reach the first two levels either by stairs or elevator. The ascension from the 2nd level to the summit is only possible by elevator.

What is the Eiffel Tower's weight in tons?

The Eiffel Tower weighs approximately 10,100 tons. The metal framework alone weighs 7,300 tons while the paint that protects the structure "only' weighs 60 tons!

Moscow guide&photo! Feel Putin vibes and explore the enigmatic Russian soul through history ...

The sprawling, mind-boggling metropolis of Russian Moscow has long been one of the theatrical stages on which the great dramas of Europe and Asia have been played out in grand style. Burned by Napoleon in 1812, immortalised by Tolstoy, utilised by the Bolsheviks and championed as a bastion of heroic defiance by the post-war communists, it’s almost hard to believe just how defining the historical events that found their home on Moscow’s streets have been. Moscow tour guides will easily be able to mark the major must-see landmarks on the map, from the onion-domed orthodox Saint Basil's Cathedral, to the political powerhouse of Red Square just next door, while others will be quick to recommend a ride on Moscow’s famous subterranean metro system, or a visit to the UNESCO-attested Novodevichy Convent on the city’s southern side. But Moscow is a city also in the throes of a cultural wrangling between the old and the new. Creative energies abound here: Boho bars and pumping super clubs now occupy the iconic mega structures of the old USSR; high-fashion outlets, trendy shopping malls and luxurious residential districts stand as testimony to a city that’s now the undisputed playground of the world’s super-rich, while sprawling modern art museums dominate the cultural offering of the downtown districts north of the Moskva River.
