Ricky gervais reveals first batch of tour dates for new show armageddon.
Ricky Gervais has announced the first official tour dates for his brand new show entitled Armageddon.
The outspoken comedian has been doing warm-up dates in London and the provinces in recent months. Fans who have seen the work in progress shows have been tweeting that this could be his most outrageous, controversial, taboo-busting show yet.
Gervais was previously on the receiving end of criticism for anti-woke jokes in his last show Supernature, but the show was still a massive hit on Netflix.
Last week his Netflix comedy After Life won the Best Comedy Award at the National Television Awards.
The dates announced for November and December so far are in Oxford, Ipswich, Sheffield, Manchester, Cambridge and Cardiff.
There will also be two more warm-up shows at the Leicester Square Theatre on October 26 & 31.

Ricky Gervais Comedy Special ‘SuperNature’ Sets May 2022 Netflix Release Date
Ricky Gervias: Supernature
Ricky Gervais’s brand new stand-up special is just around the corner on Netflix, and we’ve got our first look and the first trailer for the new special too. Here’s what you need to know about Ricky Gervais’s new Netflix special, SuperNature which is set to arrive at the end of May 2022.
The new special is the second Gervais has produced exclusively for Netflix. His first, titled Humanity , was released in March 2018 (four years ago) and is largely considered to be one of his best stand-up performances to date . Humanity was the comedian’s first time back in front of an audience for 7 years.
The special was filmed last year as Gervais performed his SuperNature set at locations around Europe and in the UK such as the London Palladium, the Utilita Arena in Birmingham, the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, and the SSE Arena at Wembley.
It’s been reported that SuperNature was the biggest comedy tour in 2021 grossing over $30 million in ticket sales.
SundayWorld described the new special as “brilliantly ridiculous” adding “Gervais touches on his uncomfortable medical examinations, how he is dealing with life now that he has toasted his 60th birthday and a series of topics most comedians would avoid for fear of being struck down by the apology police.”
Here’s how Netflix lists the new special:
“Ricky Gervais gives his take on the rules of comedy, spoiling his cats and how super actual nature is in his second Netflix stand-up special.”
A first look clip at the new special can be found on Netflix (or we’ve screen-capped and posted it on Twitter below) which gives you the first minute of the special according to The Guardian who notes that Ricky “starts his latest live show, SuperNature , with a lesson in irony.”

#SuperNature streams on Netflix around the world from May 24th 💥 pic.twitter.com/XqIPJjPUgc — Ricky Gervais (@rickygervais) May 2, 2022
Beyond SuperNature and Humanity , Gervais has produced and starred in After Life which concluded with its third season earlier in 2022. He’s also working on a new untitled project for Netflix under his overall deal which was signed back in June 2019 .
Elsewhere, you can still find Gervais in The Willoughbys and Derek, which are both streaming exclusively on Netflix.
Netflix has had a relatively quiet start to 2022 when it comes to stand-up specials. By the end of April 2022, they’ll have released 17 specials altogether including sets from David Spade, Mike Epps, Taylor Tomlinson, Ms. Pat, and Ali Wong.

Ricky Gervais: Supernature
Review of his new Netflix special
‘Comedy evolves,’ Ricky Gervais tells his SuperNature audience as he explains the nature of stand-up. But his comedy barely does.
The show, released on Netflix today, opens with a riff where he feigns to name-check some female comics to prove women are funny but draws a blank. It’s pretty much the same gag he did about being unable to name any funny black British comedians in Extras 16 years ago.
But that’s the thin end of a wedge of deliberately offensive material that’s showing its age. What was once provocative – about Aids, abortion, Hitler, dwarfs and more – has now turned hack, and Gervais isn’t keeping up.
However, his audience vociferously lap this material up, especially given such once-edgy topics are catnip to the sizeable brigade who believe ‘you can’t say anything anymore’ – his core demographic.
For a man so vociferously opposed to religious fundamentalism, Gervais has his own unbending dogma: that ‘it’s only a joke’ excuses anything a comedian might say. So he hits back at ‘virtue signalling’ and the cancel culture that he believes disproportionately pummelled Louis CK (poor guy, reduced to filling Wembley Arena at £60 a ticket…)
When a Twitter critic accuses Gervais of being ‘as funny as a fart at a baby’s funeral’, he takes it as a compliment, revelling in the fact such a guff would be hilarious precisely because it is so inappropriate. Likewise, he tells a joke about hitting a disabled toddler, and reasonably explains that no one actually got hurt in the making of that punchline.
Yet on the substantial tranche of material about trans women, the morals are murkier. Sure, no one will start hitting toddlers because of a gag, but there are plenty of bigots who get their prejudices reinforced by comedians’ anti-trans quips and will take such hateful comments out into the real world.
Gervais has lots to say about trans women - obsessed, he is - and none of it complimentary. Of course he knows this will annoy people, that’s precisely why he does it; he revels in the reaction. But even if you buy his argument that a joke has no morality - this is still comically lazy stuff depending, as always, on some variation on the tired ‘well I identify as…’ trope. Still, it’s a lucrative stance: Netflix is a generous funder of transphobia, as Dave Chappelle has also found out.
‘I’m rich,’ is a punchline to a few gags in SuperNature, as Gervais acknowledges himself as a ‘white heterosexual multimillionaire’. And he turns it into the rather good joke that being in the 1 per cent makes him a member of a much smaller minority than most racial or sexual community.
Yes, he’s often funny. His best lines will make all but the most fervent liberals laugh despite themselves, which is his aim. But there are just not enough of those moments to break through the more pedestrian progressive-baiting-by-numbers that defines this special.
Gervais is hack on other topics, too, from rectal examination to nudity in gym dressing rooms to noting that living healthily might give you extra years, but they come at the end of your life, not in your prime.
Despite this, one of his strongest routines comes on the most clichéd of topics, the difference between cats and dogs, as he discusses their penises. This is also one of the few segments that refers directly to the purported theme of the special, that nature is so amazing we have no need to invent anything beyond that. What might this show have been had he stuck to his brief?
Instead he gets bogged down in a too-long act-out of what it would be like were he to transition into a woman, just to lean into the subject he knows will provoke controversy, and another imagining God inventing HIV to punish the homosexuals – a routine which would have been bang on the zeitgeist in 1986.
Nature got to be so ‘super’ because of evolution – but Gervais risks going the way of the neanderthal, dying on the hill that jokes are just jokes, never sincere or consequential.

Ricky Gervais breaks world record with latest comedy tour
Charlie Herbert
The comedian now has a world record to add to his accolades
Ricky Gervais has bagged himself a world record with one of his stand-up performances on his recent comedy tour.
The comedian, who rose to stardom in the early 2000s for creating The Office and Extras, has spent most of 2023 taking his Armageddon tour across the world.
And one of his shows on the tour now officially holds the Guinness World Record for the highest gross for a single stand-up performance ever.
The stand-up’s show at the Hollywood Bowl in LA on May 6 this year grossed a whopping £1,410,000 ($1,790,206.50).
Along with Emmys, Golden Globes and BAFTAs, Gervais can now add a world record to his collection of accolades thanks to the history-making show in California.
Congratulations to @rickygervais – his Armageddon tour date at Hollywood Bowl in LA has the highest gross for a single stand-up performance 👏 https://t.co/Jg0q3Gtz4Z — Guinness World Records (@GWR) September 4, 2023
Speaking about the record, the British comic said: “As if packing out The Hollywood Bowl wasn’t enough, now Guinness World Records wants to put me in their big book. What a year!”
“Ricky Gervais is Britain’s biggest comedian. He sells out arenas around the world,” said Ian Coburn from Live Nation.
His Armageddon tour will continue throughout the remainder of 2023, including three shows at London’s OVO Wembley Arena (6t October, 20th October, 13th December) and 11 nights at the London Palladium (13-16th and 28-30th September, 11-14th October).
For those who can’t bag a ticket to one of the shows, Netflix has already secured the rights to the tour, so a special will be dropping on the platform once the tour has come to a close.
If you didn't manage to get tickets to see my record-breaking #Armageddon show live, (there were over 18 million ticket requests apparently), don't worry. Netflix have bought it, so you can watch it from the comfort of your home anywhere in the world after I've finished touring. pic.twitter.com/YtoeVvOCbk — Ricky Gervais (@rickygervais) September 13, 2023
When Gervais’ last show, SuperNature, landed on Netflix last year, it became one of the most-watched comedy specials that year.
