Manhood Journey will start your group out strong—it’s full of Biblical content and real discussions between men. Starting out with this series gets to the most important aspect of any man’s journey toward Godly manhood: strengthening, supportive relationships with other men. With our team of presenters from diverse backgrounds, cultures and ages, any man can find someone to relate to and others to learn from.

After Manhood Journey , you’ll be fully prepared for  The Genesis of Manhood , our 6-week introductory program that focuses on God’s original plan for manhood. It shows how the fall and the pervasiveness of its negative effects harm men to this day. But there’s hope—a relationship with Jesus can help males become men of God.

The Genesis of Manhood leads into our 5-year program,  The Heroic Man’s Journey . This series further discusses God’s plan for men and how we can achieve it. Year 1 ( Squire ) introduces a new manhood language that calls men to nobility in their thoughts and actions, and challenges them to achieve their potential in every area of their lives.

Why 24 Weeks?

We know what you’re thinking— 24 lessons sounds like a long commitment.  It is, but it’s a worthwhile commitment. If your goal is to change a man’s life, it takes time. Each year of this program builds off of the previous year. Our goal is to layer a man’s growth, so that each year takes him deeper and deeper into the manhood journey.

Volume 1  | 26 lessons

Manhood Journey  uses a discussion-based teaching style designed to build strong relationships between men, leading them toward fulfilling their greatest potential. Some topics we’ll cover in Volume 1 include:

Through an in-depth look at Genesis 2 and 3, this series explores the attributes of man before and after the fall. Each man can learn that, despite the ugly consequences of sin, he can be restored and fulfill God’s original purpose for his life through his relationship with the Ultimate Man—Jesus Christ.

Squire: The Training of the Knight

Year 1  | 24 lessons

Through the use of a knighthood metaphor, Squire calls men to nobility in their thoughts and actions, and challenges them to achieve their potential in every area of their lives. Some topics we’ll cover include:

• The differences between a  male  and a  man
• The biblical definition of manhood
• 15 Principles of Manhood
• The dangers of this world and how a man combats them with God’s help
• Achieving our dreams and goals

Warrior: The Clarity of the Knight

Year 2  | 24 lessons

Oracle: The Wisdom of the Knight

Oracle  takes the manhood journey to new levels. Godly wisdom will guide a man to success for himself, his family and his community. Some topics we’ll cover in  Oracle   include:

• The biblical view of sexuality

Round Table: The Companions of the Knight

Year 4  | 24 lessons

Men need other men to sharpen and support each other. The only way we can succeed in overcoming the challenges we face is by developing our relationships. Some topics we’ll cover in  Round Table  include:

• Recognizing the challenges ahead—and deal with them courageously
• The Trail Markers that will lead us to manhood
• Managing our internal world
• The importance and influence of our relationships—both past and present
• Being a Godly father, husband and leader

Defender: The Duties of the Knight

Year 5  | 24 lessons

It’s our job to defend ourselves and others—first we must step up and be a knight. Some topics we’ll cover in  Defender  include:

• Dealing with the inevitable pain, grief, fear and difficulties of life
• Building a strong, immovable character
• How a man takes responsibility for his life and decision
• Values and our belief system

Following God In The Raw | 14 lessons

It’s easier to say that we are going to follow God than it is to actually do it. This 14-session DVD study program helps men understand how they can reflect who Jesus Christ is in the nitty-gritty of life and their relationships. Follow Jeff Kemp, Keith Walker, Mark Holmen, Robert Amaya, Clair Hoover, T.C. Stallings and Roy Smith as they discuss the importance of relationships with like-minded men and why they are crucial to the development of a Christ-like life.

Fighting For Your Manhood | 8 lessons

You will be required to fight for your manhood in this present world. Victory does not occur by accident, but by developing all of the potential God has designed you with. This 8-lesson DVD study program explores what it means to be a man after God’s own heart. Exercising yourself to win life’s battle begins by utilizing the complex set of strengths God has given you, seeking God’s guidance daily and fulfilling His call for your life. People around you need you to be a man of positive influence as God is reflected in your choice of actions. Christian actors T.C. Stallings ( War Room and Courageous ) and Robert Amaya ( Courageous ) take men through this Christ-centered study of what a Biblical manhood journey should look like.

Real Men: A Real Man Seeks | 15 lessons

This 12-lesson program (plus three bonus lessons) brings together a group of dynamic speakers, including Robert Amaya, Jeff Kemp, T.C. Stallings, Gene Getz and more, who share their knowledge, gifts and experiences in an effort to lead males toward becoming real men of God. Invite a group of men and pursue manhood together. Join our team to discover and fulfill God’s purpose for your life.

Each Real Men lesson is approximately 35 to 40 minutes long, followed by a 10- to 15-minute interview with the speaker.  These interviews allow the audience to learn more about the presenter and his ministry, books, website or contact information.  The interview segments can be skipped over if groups are not interested in watching them or are short on time.  These studies can be done independent of each other for special events, or use them as a complete 15- or 16-week study series. (They can, but don’t necessarily have to build on each other.)

Real Men: A Real Man Pursues  | 16 lessons

This 13-lesson program (plus three bonus lessons) brings together a group of dynamic speakers, including Ray McElroy, Jeff Kemp, T.C. Review: Manhood Journey

In our society, manhood seems to be in crisis.  Our 20’s generation grew up in a large number of fatherless homes, and that trend is sadly continuing.   The value of the role of a father in a young man’s life cannot be overstated.   Churches have long wrestled with how to address this gap and come alongside these young men.   This bible study is an answer to that struggle.   Not THE answer of course, but a piece of the puzzle.

In light of the immense need for father/son discipleship,  Manhood Journey & City on a Hill Studio  developed a Bible study for fathers and sons.   They kindly sent us the  Manhood Journey Father’s Starter Kit  to review.

The  Manhood Journey Father’s Starter Kit  includes a group discussion guide, a 1 on 1 discussion guide for fathers to use with their sons, a DVD of the introductory modules for all six units, 10 maprochures, and a free copy of Wise Guys Unlocking Hidden Wisdom from the Men Around You by the Manhood Journey cofounder, Kent Evans.

This bible study is designed to be used with fathers and sons, OR with men who are stepping into a mentorship role in a young man’s life.   It can be used one on one, or with a small group.   Guides are included for both group and going-deeper individual meetings.    The guides are thorough, as well.   They give step-by-step curriculum for the group meetings, so a leader/father can pick up the guide, read through it, and lead the group.   It doesn’t require a lot of advance preparation.

The first step on the journey is called, appropriately, Embarking.   The guide contains six weeks worth of material, and it’s written in a fashion to appeal to guys. The first week in the group discussion guide includes topics like Meet and Greet, Vision and Purpose, Demonstration, Discussion, and Father/Son homework.   The second week launches straight into welcome, opening activities, discussion, and Father/Son homework.

The one on one discussion guide begins with a review of the group session, but that part can be skipped if it is being used individually.   This guide walks dads through an intentional discussion time with their son, and also includes six weeks.   It would still be helpful for the father/son team, if doing this study individually, to read through and answer some of the questions in the Group guide.  Then, they can use the one on one guide to go even deeper and make it more personal.

The Maprochures included give an overview of the entirety of the “Manhood Journey” study.   The other modules include: * Clean Hearts * Working Well * Standing Strong * Manhood Myths * Leading Lessons

It appears that the modules can be completed in any order.   The printing is great quality, and the map is fun to look at.

Also included is the book, Wise Guys.   My husband enjoyed picking that up and reading it, and he’s not a huge reader.   It’s written by the co-founder of Trail Life, which Super D participates in.  That was a fun discovery!

If you’re looking for a bible study to help strengthen father/son relationships, and help your son grow into a man, I recommend this one!

Our follow-up weekend to JiM

The journey continues, discovering your inner king, the journey continues is our follow-up to journey into manhood..

It is open to any man who previously completed the Journey Into Manhood experience who continues to work on:

• better aligning his sexual thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with his faith, values, and life goals
• discovering what healthy sexuality is to him — and learning to live it
• addressing other still-unresolved issues, especially around men and masculinity.

Participants must be in integrity with their previous commitments to the Brothers Road community, or receive the express clearance of the Brothers Road director.

There are no other “prerequisites” nor any other approval process. Registration is first-come, first-registered.

Many men experience Journey Continues to be just as impactful as their original Journey Into Manhood experience — although it is intentionally not as intense or “advanced” as our more extensive Journey Beyond program.

Past JiM staff-volunteers and Journey Beyond participants are welcome to attend Journey Continues and likely to continue to do meaningful inner-healing and personal growth work.  

Journey Continues creates opportunities for participants to do challenging personal-growth work in a safe, supportive community — especially work around:

The fee covers 20-25 program hours, 2 nights stay at the camp, and 6 meals. It does not include transportation.

Manhood Journey Roundup

Join Troops from across the country for this first-ever Manhood Journey National Roundup. Troops are encouraged to take advantage  of January and February to work on the Worthy Life Awards with their Navigators and Adventurers. Manhood Journey Executive Director Kent Evans will host a weekly meeting, beginning January 13, with these Troop leaders, walking them through the "Embarking" module.

Kent Evans is the founder and Executive Director of  Manhood Journey, a ministry that helps fathers and mentors become disciple-makers and build the next generation of godly men . After a twenty-year career as a business leader, he embarked on biblical fatherhood ministry projects. He's appeared on television, radio, web outlets and podcasts. He's spoken at parenting and men's events.

Kent's the author of  Wise Guys: Unlocking Hidden Wisdom from the Men Around You . He and his wife April have five sons and live in Louisville, Kentucky.

Journey from boyhood into manhood with Jesus .

Boys rarely mark the transition into manhood, as a result they simply drift into adult life. In a society where manhood is rarely understood, ManMade encourages effective boys ministry between churches, fathers and father-figures to mentor their lads’ into become Godly men of purpose, humility, courage, respect, control and responsibility.

Intentionally recognising key moments when approaching manhood and marking them through Rites of Passage.

Supporting fathers and father-figures to mentor their boys; helping them to highlight ‘moments’ to mark their journey with God.

Releasing lads to meet and learn together; to take their lives, faith and journeys as men seriously as a community.

Beginnings .

“Being a man is more than the ability to grow stubble and procreate; it requires a holistic understanding that invades every area of life”.

In 2010, ManMade: A rites of passage course for teenage guys was written and published by SJI . It aimed to provide the Church a course that unpacked thinking about how teenage boys move towards manhood authentically , supporting them through six core values, based on the life of Jesus.

ManMade is now a ‘go-to’ resource site aiming to provide a holistic framework of sessions, small group material, activities, excursion ideas, and challenging trial exercises ideal for churches to form effective boys ministry; discipling and equipping their lads to become Godly men through father-figure mentoring and peer to peer collectives.
