Death Angel is a thrash metal band from Concord, California formed in 1982 and currently consists of Rob Cavestany, Mark Osegueda, Ted Aguilar, Will Carroll and Damien Sisson.

The roots of Death Angel can be traced to California and a quartet of cousins, Rob Cavestany, Dennis Pepa , Gus Pepa and Andy Galeon who formed the original line up yet they were known by many other pseudonyms including Dark Fury and Cavestany before eventually deciding on Death Angel. Their first album 'The Ultra-Violence' was released in 1987 after experimenting with different variations of traditional metal. The album was released through Enigma Records, it failed to chart yet it was hailed as a cult success by the band's early fan base.

The band followed this with two albums, 'Frolic Through The Park' in 1989 which remains the only appearance on the US Billboard charts whilst 1990's 'Part III' scored the band moderate chart success across Europe. In late 1990 drummer Andy Galeon was critically injured when their tour bus crashed and this was seen as the catalyst that ended with the band's demise. Their record label encouraged them to replace Galeon with another drummer due him needing a year to recover yet when the band refused they were then dropped. Various members decided to pursue life outside music and by 1991 Death Angel was no more.

However in 2001 the band reunited for a benefit show, although Gus Pepa was unable to attend due to no longer being in the States so Death Angel continued with collaborator and friend Ted Aguilar. They released their first album in 14 years which was titled 'The Art Of Dying' in 2004. The 2010 release 'Relentless Retribution' peaked at #10 on the US Heatseekers charts as well as appearing on numerous European charts.

Live reviews

The Californian thrash metal band have had several stints of music production fame over the years, and have released several studio albums over the years. Death Angel are the kind of band that I wasn’t particularly interested in listening to until I saw them perform live. I was dragged along to a concert with a friend, and absolutely loved every moment. The instrumental talent that the band in incredibly high, and their musical solos demonstrated the complexity of their individual parts. Many people are inclined to think that the vocals in metal bands are simply shouting, but it is a highly difficult skill, and their front man, Mark Osegueda has it absolutely nailed.

Although their line up has changed quite a lot over the years, the band are incredibly strong and work together really well. They bounce their energy off of each other, and are constantly head banging throughout their sets, encouraging the audience to do the same. They played through their newest album The Dream Calls For Blood, as well as revisiting some of their older material, which seemed to please the long time fans.

Towards the end of the show, Ted Aguilar was chatting to us in the audience, telling a couple of funny stories, and revealed that they had a new album in the pipeline, and the band played us a preview of a track, and it sounded awesome!

When a band identifies their music as thrash metal, you should probably presume that their live show is not one to be stood and observed. Every audience member appears to have agreed to a silent pact to throw themselves into this show and give the band as much pent up energy as possible. From the moment the Californian quintet steps out the whole room erupts as for some fans this moment has been a long time coming after the group went on hiatus from 1991 to 2001.

It felt as though the group had only just begun when they called time which was a true waste yet now the majority of the originals are back onstage doing what they do best. Mark Osegueda leers at the audience, leans forward and warns the audience he wants to hear them for opener 'Left for Dead'. They rush through an aggressive and evocative set of blistering thrash and towering metal instrumentals that have the whole crowd cheering and screaming below the stage. It comes to an abrupt end with 'Voracious Souls' and although there is no encore tonight, the audience are left contented albeit it slightly bruised in the meantime.

Houston show was great , the Austin show was better, The Dallas show was Awesome. It seems like the band was getting better and better as the nights went on. Mark voice is impenetrable, Ted‘s and Damian’s rhythm was a steady beat of force steadily pounding on your chest while Will’s drumming came in for the kill ! Rob is becoming a master of guitar solo’s, his lighting speed finger work on the fret board looks like a spider making it’s web to catch it’s prey !

While the was more available to their fans back in the day and up to 2010

It’s harder and harder to talk and ask them question ted and mark were willing and excited to talk to the fans. Other members of the band took up to and more than an hour and half if at all to come out from the tour bus to talk the fans !

However if you to see an original, no sell

Drive from Fort Worth, TX to Houston, TX

Hell Fire opened the show, the Exmortus played a set. Both were hand picked by Dearh Angel. These two bands got the Wednesday night crowd pumped up by the tine Death Angel were going to hit the stage . At the end of AC/DC’s “ for those who about to rock”

Death Angel were walking on stage Rob started playing his heavy riff to their Grammy nominated “ Humanicide” self tittle album . The group went from zero to sixty faster than an Ashton Martin !

We were very lucky to see Death Angel in 1989 at joe’s garage for their Act III tour !

And multiple times sense then. They seem to better and better with time just like fine wine !

Heading to Austin ,TX tonight to see the show at Cone and get it live !

Be there or be square

Death Angel blew all the other groups away that played last night in Dallas ! Rob, Ted, Mark, Damien and Will gave their 1000 % percent like they said they would. Rob Cavestany is one of the most underrated and most influential guitarists of my time ! I had the pleasure of seeing them in 1989 at joe's garage in Fort Worth, Texas on their Act III tour and they jam as hard today as they did then ! I appreciate their dedication and their passion to keep making quality music . God Bless and Rock On Death Angel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once more a great show of the veterans of Thrash. Solid as always and tight as usual. Mark was in excellent mood and very talkative, Rob kicked ass and the others just rocked the house. I would always recommend to see them play as DA both play oldschool and modern parts.

It was my first concert ever, got there right when Death Angel finished, i was pissed, i caught the final riff of "The Moth", they do have an excellent live sound, extreme sheerness, however, i did get to see Anthrax and Slayer, it was wild, high energy.

"Kingdoms Disdained" was released in December 2017 via Silver Lining Music in the U.S. and JVC in Japan. The disc, which reunites founding guitarist Trey Azagthoth with bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker , was recorded at Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida and produced by MORBID ANGEL with Erik Rutan ( CANNIBAL CORPSE , HATE ETERNAL , SIX FEET UNDER , BELPHEGOR ).

Azagthoth   made headlines in 2020 after he was arrested on a misdemeanor DUI charge near his home in Florida. Several months later, he pleaded no contest to reckless driving as a reduced charge from DUI. He was also ordered to complete "DUI School", pay a small fine and perform 50 hours of community service.
