Galveston Cruise Parking (Where to Park): Prices, Profiles, & Map

When it comes to Galveston cruise parking, you have lots of options on where to park while you take your trip.

Sign for express parking lot in Galveston.

While the port offers official parking, there are close to a dozen other independent options that all compete for your business. The result? Galveston has the cheapest parking of any cruise port in America. Many lots charge about $15-$20 per day for outdoor spots when you add in all taxes and fees. ( Many hotels also offer free or discounted parking if you stay with them a single night before your cruise .)

With all of the options, it can be a little overwhelming to figure out where you should park. Truth is, most lots are similar and located about the same distance from the port. The major differences between most lots is whether or not they offer covered/indoor parking and of course, the price you’ll pay.

Galveston Cruise Parking Lot Details

Below, we’ve included a price list across all your options. Just note that prices can vary based on season, trip length, parking lot, and even which cruise line you sail. We’ve included all taxes and fees where applicable .

For all lots it’s a good idea to reserve and pay online ahead of time. Not only does this guarantee you a parking spot, but online reservations usually have a discount off the “drive-up” price. We also have a listing of coupons (up to $15 off!) here.

As well, since the Port of Galveston charges shuttles from outside parking lots an access fee to drop off at the cruise ships, there are often discounts if you park and walk instead of using the shuttle . Keep in mind that rates can change.

RCL’s new terminal is actually Terminal 3 / PIER 10…

Port of Galveston calls it Cruise Terminal 10:

PARKING AND MOBILITY Our Mobility Department is devising ways to move cruise-related traffic to its final destinations most efficiently. All customers who park at Cruise Terminal 10 will benefit from expedited entrance and exit at parking facilities with new license plate recognition technology.

Discount Cruise Parking has moved much closer to the terminal and is at 433 33rd Street, Galveston TX 77550. They were still the cheapest from those available when I searched. (I had a four-day cruise during the week and half the parking lots were not even open.) I will know next week if the service is still good.

Jim how was the parking at Discount Cruise Parking? I am trying to decide if I want to use this lot for my upcoming cruise for this December.

Hotel Galvez is now Grand Galvez with new owners, and no longer offer cruise parking or cruise port shuttle service.

I am a disabled veteran 100 percent I am visiting a friend in Arkansas and are Carnival Cruise leaves on March 21 to the 26th will be driving from Arkansas to Galveston and leaving on the dream but the car we’re bringing down is my friend’s car but I did bring my packer plate from my car in Pennsylvania would that work to get the free parking the car is registered in her name not mine…

I’d suggest calling the port at 409-765-9321. That’s a pretty intricate situation.

Do you have Purple Heart parking prices

Purple Heart recipients can park for free at the official Galveston port lots. According to their website:

“To qualify for complimentary parking space you will need the following: State vehicle registration receipt with Disabled Veteran or Purple Heart Recipient designation along with driver’s license or state-issued ID to match vehicle registration information.”

“In addition, the Disabled American Veteran or Purple Heart Recipient MUST be present at time of check in along with the vehicle that has the DV/PH license plate.”

You don’t have to reserve ahead of time. Just show up and let the attendant know. They will direct you on how to park for free.

You’ll want to plan in advance where you’re parking in Galveston while you’re on your cruise and how to get your luggage from car to ship.

Galveston cruise parking can seem overwhelming due to the sheer amount of choices offered to cruise travelers. However, because Galveston is one of the busiest cruise ports in the US it has become a popular vacation destination in its own right.  You’ll be able to take advantage of competitive prices and lots of options to find the perfect parking conditions for your vehicle during your cruise vacation.

Being one of the busiest cruise ports in the US, Galveston boasts plenty of parking lots. Almost all of them are located very close to the cruise ship terminal.

If you are going to park in a lot, there are a few considerations to be made.  Do you prefer covered parking?   How close do you want to be to the cruise terminal?   What kind of transportation do you need to and from the Galveston cruise port?  What is the cost?  And do you need a parking spot that will accommodate an oversized vehicle such as an RV?

Hotels provide another option if you are going to be staying in Galveston the night before your cruise.  (More on this near the bottom of the post.)

How Do I know Which Terminal to Go to for My Cruise Line?

Typically Carnival cruise ships use Terminal 1 and Royal Caribbean and Disney use Terminal 2.  You will still want to check with your cruise line and check the signs leading up to the cruise port to make sure, but this is a good rule of thumb.

Currently, cruise ships going out of Galveston are on itineraries to the Bahamas and Caribbean.  There are also some occasional Transatlantic cruises and even Panama Canal cruises to check out.

Hotel Parking

Many cruisers opt to arrive in Galveston a day or two before their cruise departs. For those travelers flying into Texas, this greatly lessens any worries about flight delays or missing luggage. And because embarkation day can be hectic, even cruisers who don’t have to fly to Galveston often choose to take a day before their cruise embarks to relax.

Frugal travelers will love that they can save on Galveston cruise parking if they are savvy to the local hotels. Many Galveston hotels offer free parking or a cruise parking package to their guests.

Tips & Tricks for Galveston Port Cruisers

Embarkation.

Embarkation day can be draining.  Your itinerary for the day may include checking out of a hotel or traveling from the airport, parking your vehicle, arranging for shuttle transportation, loading and unloading luggage, keeping track of travel documents, and waiting in line. Here are some tips to keep things streamlined and stress-free.

  • Reserve your parking spot ahead of time . We cannot stress this one enough! Not only will pre-booking your parking spot save you money, but many parking lots and hotel shuttles fill up. You don’t want to be stranded.
  • Know your parking facility’s luggage policy . Some parking lots offer luggage handling, while others suggest that you drop your luggage off at the terminal with cruise line porters before parking your car. Make sure you know what your parking facility’s policy is so that your luggage makes it onto the right ship!
  • Pack a small “day bag” to keep with you on cruise embarkation day . Sometimes it can take hours for your luggage to arrive to your cabin. Keep a small bag with you packed with your necessities to get you through – snacks, travel documents, medications, and if you have little ones, some distractions and a change of clothes for them. Minimize meltdowns during this waiting period!
  • If you are traveling with young children who still require car seats, ensure that you know how you are traveling to and from the terminal . While shuttles do not require car seats, if you are parking in a lot that does not offer a shuttle, know that taxicab, Uber and Lyft drivers will not allow children without car seats in their vehicles. You may need to plan on traveling with your child’s car seat (it may come in handy for cab rides at ports of call!) or consider packing a Bubble Bum .

Ah, tipping. That gray area that can mystify even the most seasoned traveler. Should you tip your shuttle driver? Well – that depends. If you have chosen Galveston cruise parking that includes a free shuttle, the answer is yes.

Plan on tipping your shuttle driver $5 for the ride, plus $1-$2 per bag for luggage handling. If you paid for the shuttle, a minimum of $2 tip plus a minimum of $1 for luggage handling is a good rule of thumb.

Whether you’re an experienced cruiser or a first-timer, you don’t need to let worries about where to park your car in Galveston trump your excitement. The port of Galveston is a tourist destination with plenty of cruise parking options.

You’ll find parking lots and garages for your car or RV, as well as hotels to suit any traveling style and budget with parking amenities while you’re on your cruise.

Official Port of Galveston Parking has an Express Lot (fenced) right beside the terminal.  I parked there for a Grandeur cruise last month.  There’s a ramp to roll your suitcases up.  Super convenient.

Sign up on the Port of Galveston website for parking Loyalty rewards and it will discount the parking a little. .  Use a promo Code SPOOKY to get an additional $15 off if you reserve by October 31.

This is also our favorite place to park. I'm sad that it won't be an option anymore once the new terminal opens. It's so convenient to park there and walk across the street without needing a shuttle. (The pedestrian bridge is not in use, unfortunately.)

I'm glad you mentioned that. After looking at several maps I may have made a tactical error in that I see the express lot (not covered) is right next to the Royal Terminal where as the garage ( where I booked and is covered) is more in front of terminal 1. It looks like we will have quite a hike to get across the street and then over to terminal 2. Did you make this walk? How bad was it with luggage? Are there good signs to tell you where to go? First time for us in Galveston.

The last time we parked here, we departed out of Terminal 1 and it was perfect. However, when we returned, the ship docked at Terminal 2 (Royal’s) and I worried about how far and how difficult the walk back to our car would be. It looked really far when I was standing on our balcony while still on the ship.

Surprisingly, once we made the trek through the terminal to retrieve our luggage and go through customs, the point where we exited the building was pretty close to Terminal 1 and the walk wasn’t bad at all. Even with dragging our luggage along.

There were police officers directing traffic on both days, which made crossing the busy street no problem.

Thank you for this information. I like to have a good idea how things will work on embarkation day. I'm pretty sure Liberty will be at 100% and it will be lot's of people who don't show up at their assigned arrival times. It will be a mad house.

What Our Clients Are Saying

EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE!  Awesome service with a dedicated smile!  I used this company to store my rented vehicle before an 8-night cruise out of the Port of Galveston.  These guys are quick, organized and professional.  My wait on both ends was less than 2 mins!!  Though my interactions were brief, both on departure and return, I was so pleased I tipped double! Moni M.
We used this parking service AGAIN this year for our 7 day cruise! Again this year, they were more than happy to help, they were all kind, and polite! Waited about 10 minutes in each direction for the shuttle to leave, and we were able to completely avoid the crazy port traffic!!! We will definitely use them again! Marie S.

11 Reason To Sail on Cruises From Galveston

I n no uncertain terms, a cruise port makes all the difference regarding your entire vacation. After all, the location of your departure sets the tone for your trip moving forward, determining which destinations you’ll reach once you’re on the high seas.

While specific destinations like Miami or Canaveral boast unique strengths, something might also be said for the Port of Galveston, Texas. A smaller port overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, Galveston may not be the largest or busiest destination from which to depart. Yet, there are plenty of amicable reasons to look into this idyllic Texan island for your next cruise-going experience.

1. Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Disney Offer Cruises From Galveston

Looking at it plainly, Galveston has three cruise terminals making up its port. In contrast, far larger alternatives, like the Port of Miami, have eleven terminals. Because of this, Galveston unfortunately cannot house many of the industry’s prestigious cruise lines. However, the port’s terminals support several large-scale cruise corporations, with Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Princess, Norwegian, MSC, and Disney Cruises departing from Galveston regularly.

2. The Nearby Cruise Destinations Are Well Worth It

Admittedly, inevitable drawbacks are attached to cruises from Galveston. Considering how much farther west it is than ports in Florida or along the East Coast, most cruise lines out of Galveston cannot travel to their company’s private islands as many are in the Eastern Caribbean. However, Galveston’s location along the Gulf of Mexico has its distinct perks, including ready access to the Western Caribbean and parts of South and Central America. Though some guests might regret losing a chance at CocoCay, it’s hard to be upset when trekking along the shores of Mexico, Honduras, or Belize.

3. It’s Easier To Navigate Than Larger Ports

There’s no simple answer when it comes to determining the total cost of cruises from Galveston over any other port in the U.S. Like most ports, the final cost of the cruise depends on numerous factors, including the time of year you’re sailing, the location of your cabin, and the cruise line you plan on traveling with. However, the convenience of navigating the port itself makes Galveston a perfect option for anyone new to cruise vacations. Avoiding the large-scale crowds and tedious boarding lines as other major ports, Galveston remains a hassle-free destination for most novice travelers out there.

Baby, It's Cold Outside! 12 Warm Destinations to Escape to This Winter

4. galveston is conveniently located in the central u.s..

Given Galveston’s distinct location in eastern Texas , it’s one of the most readily accessible ports for travelers across the U.S. Located in the heart of America, travelers from the Western U.S. will have just as easy time reaching it as vacationers from the Midwest or East Coast. After all, who wants to sit on a lengthy plane ride to reach their port of call? Also, Galveston lacks the same high value of traffic as Miami or other popular ports, making it relatively hassle-free to reach.

5. The Port Terminal Is Reasonably Close to the Airport

Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport is the closest airport to Galveston. Roughly 41 miles northwest of the port, travelers can easily navigate from the airport to their cruise terminal in under an hour. Galveston is also close to several major cities, making it an option, albeit a farther one, for anyone flying into Austin or Dallas. However, given Houston’s short driving distance to Galveston, William P. Hobby Airport is your best bet for air travel.

6. The Boarding Process Is Quick and Seamless

As mentioned above, Galveston doesn’t have the same volume of passengers flooding through its port as Miami, Canaveral, or Port Everglades. As a result, boarding a ship is comparatively tamer—especially since the port opened up its third and latest terminal in 2022. Having been constructed in the past two decades and carefully refurbished, these terminals are in fantastic shape, making the onboarding process much more efficient for vacationers. The terminals also come equipped with innovative new features, with Terminal 3 offering mobile check-in and state-of-the-art facial recognition devices.

7. There Are Plenty of Hotels Nearby

Another notable feature of Galveston is the number of hotels near the port. (Because let’s face it: what’s more accessible than simply waking up, hopping in your car, and practically walking onto the ship without worrying about losing track of time?) What’s more, many of the hotels in the Galveston area have special offers for anyone traveling onboard a cruise ship. These offers include free or discounted parking rates and a helpful shuttle that ferry passengers back and forth from the hotel to the ship. While several hotels in Galveston have these amenities, some of the best include the Hilton Galveston Island Resort and the San Luis Resort .

8. Parking Is Easy

Don’t let Galveston’s size fool you—the port itself has plenty of options when it comes to parking. As previously suggested, anyone staying at a nearby hotel might want to consider leaving their car parked there and taking a shuttle, taxi, or Uber over to their terminal. Additionally, travelers can reserve a space in the port’s parking lot ahead of their trip. These parking spaces are safe and secure, and port employees will assist with any luggage brought aboard on cruises from Galveston.

9. Galveston Itself Is a Beautiful Place To Visit

The main reason we believe you should depart from Galveston on your next cruise is the opportunity you’ll have to see what it has to offer. Like most major cities, there’s plenty to do and see around town, with every prospective sight catering to travelers’ interests. For those interested in shopping, the Strand Historical District has plenty of independently owned stores that feature everything from odd tchotchkes to essential beach items. Galveston’s famous Moody Gardens is an educational park built around natural wonders such as exotic sea life, immaculate flowers, roaming monkeys, and sloths.

10. You’re Bound To Find Some Great Last-Minute Deals

As previously mentioned, Galveston is a more scaled-down port than Miami or Port Canaveral, but its three terminals still receive cruise ships constantly. Because of this constantly moving schedule, most travelers will find it incredibly easy to find last-minute deals on select cruises from Galveston—often days before the ship is booked to leave. Sure, it may not be practical for those traveling from longer distances to book something last-minute. Yet these last-minute deals are well worth it for anyone within a short distance of Galveston.

11. Galveston Is Steeped in Rich Maritime History

Galveston is a city rich in history, having first been settled by Indigenous Natives of the Akokisa and Karankawa tribes before the Europeans arrived in the 1600s. Over the next several centuries, Galveston became a hub for maritime trade, eventually attracting such notable figures as French buccaneer Jean Lafitte. All that being said, history buffs will delight at the chance to visit Galveston, taking in some of the numerous historical sights around town—like Lafitte’s personal hideaway at Maison Rouge or the Michael B. Menard House, named after one of Galveston’s original American settlers. Even those who don’t care for history will find these areas fascinating.

I definitely felt the parking lot was safe and the shuttles ran with ease. Was the shuttle ride comfortable? No. Was it easy to select select the limited covered spaces? No. But I will say that the crew was friendly, they made our departure and return a smooth one, and if I couldn't find covered parking, I would use their service again!

Photo of Eric B.

Great location to park your car when on a cruise! Easy walking distance across the street to carnival cruises! We always pay the extra $$ for indoor covered parked and it has definitely paid off after big storms hitting the port while on our cruise. If you're looking for a place to park for a cruise this is your place. HOWEVER, they do NOT have any electrical outlets or EV charging capability, and because of this, we will seek parking at other locations that have this capability now that we have an EV due to not many charging options in the Galveston Port area at this time. I wish they would add this option at this facility, I believe with they would get more customers now that EVs are the new thing.

I've used this parking service for the past several years because it's convenient to the terminal, workers are friendly and your car secure.

Dear Galveston Park N Cruise, I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to express my extreme disappointment and frustration with the customer service provided by one of your representatives, Jaime. Unfortunately, my recent interaction with her left me with a poor impression of your company. On May 20, 2023 @ 0951 I contacted your customer service line to inquire about the pricing options for outdoor and indoor parking for my upcoming Carnival Breeze cruise, scheduled from June 15th to 19th, 2023. I specifically mentioned this information to Jaime at the beginning of our conversation. Initially, Jaime provided me with the pricing details for both indoor and outdoor parking, quoting indoor parking at $83 plus taxes and fees, and outdoor parking at $71 plus taxes and fees. However, when I asked about the other fees that would be included, Jaime seemed impatient and asked for clarification on whether I wanted information for indoor or outdoor parking. I then specified that I was interested in outdoor parking. To my dismay, instead of addressing my question about the additional fees, Jaime provided me with a new quote of $89.14 for outdoor parking. I once again sought clarification on the other fees, hoping for a comprehensive answer. Unfortunately, Jaime disregarded my question and failed to provide a satisfactory response. Furthermore, I inquired if your company offered an option to purchase insurance. Instead of providing a professional response, Jaime informed me that no places in Galveston provide insurance. I was taken aback by this statement, as I am aware that there are establishments in Galveston that do offer insurance coverage. It would have been more appropriate for Jaime to simply state that your company does not provide insurance. However, the most distressing part of the conversation was when Jaime abruptly hung up the phone while I was still speaking. This act of rudeness and impatience left me feeling disrespected as a customer. It is disappointing to encounter such unprofessional behavior from a representative of your company. As a customer, I value clear communication, patience, and professionalism. I believe it is essential for representatives to provide accurate information and address customer inquiries with courtesy and respect. Regrettably, my experience with Jaime fell significantly short of these expectations. I trust that you take customer feedback seriously and will address this matter appropriately. I kindly request that you investigate this incident and take the necessary steps to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future. Additionally, I would appreciate a response regarding the actions taken to rectify this situation. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope that my feedback will contribute to the improvement of your customer service standards. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely, Inger Glasper

Great place to park your car when going on a cruise. I parked inside the garage for a 7 day cruise which I think is the best choice considering you are in Texas with that kind of heat. The woman who checked us in was really nice and the man who helped us in the garage and take us ( & our luggage) to the main entrance to go across the road to the cruise was great. I do recommend taking your luggage and dropping it off first at the terminal and then go park, that way you aren't tugging all your luggage across the crosswalk, railroad tracks, and through A LOT of people getting on the cruise.

Photo of Mary N.

I really wanted indoor parking and they did have that. I was really hoping that they would have more spots but it's only one level and it's very tiny so if you have a wide truck I would not recommend it for you. It was definitely an easy walk from their parking garage to terminal 1. Worked for us.

Photo of Marcus N.

We had covered parking. Fast in and out. It would be tight for bigger truck, but great for Honda Pilot. Was about 3blocks from Carnival Vista port, so location was great! No issues at all.

Photo of Jeremy C.

These guys are always ready to go. Fast to assign parking and are courteous to your size of vehicle access and ease of getting out. Everyone is very polite wishing you a good trip and welcoming us back when they see us again. Located conveniently right across the street from the cruise ships too

Photo of Angela T.

Great location. Directly across the street from the port. Easy access in an out. Covered parking available which is a nice plus with the unpredictable Texas weather. Safe with plenty of attendants on all levels of the garage. Will use again.

Good value. The parking was tighter than I'd normally like. Would prefer a location with a shuttle.
