A Brief About e-Ticket, Itinerary, and Booking Reference

e-Ticket is a travel document equivalent to any paper ticket. An itinerary is the proposed route of a flight which also includes other relevant information. The PNR or booking reference is one of the airline’s internal identifiers for flight booking in the computer system for travelers.

The e-ticket is basically the document that will be required to show proof of reservation with a specific airline that you are flying with.

With an e-Ticket, you will also receive an e-Ticket number that is the same as any other paper ticket number. It is considered an actual travel document identifier.

e-Ticket numbers are determined only by the airlines and are widely used in conjunction with many airline agencies for keeping track of finances. For the e-ticket, the first three digits of the serial number refer to the airline issuing the ticket. But it will not always refer to the airline you are flying with.

No, an itinerary is not the same as an e-Ticket. An itinerary may contain various information about your flight including the departure time, arrival time, and connecting flights. On the other hand, an e-Ticket is a document that proves you have purchased a ticket and allows you to board the flight.

An itinerary consists of detailed information about your flight and crucial information about your hotel reservation and fares. It also contains travel route confirmation of the travel plans you need for check-in at the airport for boarding the plane.

Keep a check on the details provided by your travel agency so that you know what you have However, even if you are carrying the itinerary, the e-ticket is of great importance, and you may not be allowed to enter the flight if you are not carrying the same. This can be more true for international flights.

According to sources , for some tickets, a merchandising revenue of up to 70 % of the total trip prize is not so far-fetched any longer.

For purchasing a flight ticket online, the details like destination, arrival point and time, and the number of people traveling are required, along with personal details.

Now, here’s a detailed step-by-step guide on how to check in with an e-Ticket for first-time travelers:

Step 1: Carry your e-Ticket and a valid ID. If you are required to check in online, make sure to do so within the time window mentioned by the airlines.

Try printing out the validation email or e-ticket you have received before leaving the airport.

Step 2: Make sure to reach the airport on time. For a domestic flight, the time margin is about 75 to 60 minutes, and for an international flight, it ranges from 2 to 3 hours.

So, make sure that you can check within the timeline as there can be unexpected circumstances, and it never hurts anyone if they are a little early.

Step 3: Always look for the self-service check-in kiosks.

Electronic check-in is permitted for international flights if you have a passport and credit card.

Step 4: The screen has a button called “Start,” and you can press it to start the program.

The procedure requires due verification followed by the verification or reservation number entry and then selecting your name by swiping the credit card.

Step 5: If you are flying internationally, scan the passport as required.

Step 6: Now check into your flight as per the instructions.

Step 7: Now, enter your bags to check in. If your bags are heavier than the permitted baggage weight, you can pay the extra fees via your credit card at the self-service kiosk.

Step 8: Select seating arrangements if you want to make any last-minute changes. If you are looking for a seat upgrade, you can also pay an extra amount, depending on the airline.

Is The E-ticket The Same As A Boarding Pass?

In simple terms, the boarding pass will be the ticket for boarding the plane. The e-Ticket, on the other hand, is generated for booking the flight. The boarding pass is always generated after check-in, either at the counter (check-in) or online.

When Should You Fill Out Your e-Ticket for Dominican Republic?

The Dominican Republic has implemented an online form to be completed by travelers at least 72 hours prior to their arrival in the country . The form can be filled out on the Dominican Republic’s Immigration Department website . Once the traveler has completed the form, they must present it along with their passport and other travel documents to an immigration official upon arriving in the Dominican Republic

What’s The Difference Between A Flight Itinerary and a Travel Itinerary?

The major difference between a travel and a flight itinerary is the information they contain. The travel itinerary not only includes your flight details but also other details such as routes, passenger names, bus numbers, etc, while a flight itinerary covers all the important details about the flight.

Are An Itinerary and Boarding Pass The Same?

No, an itinerary and a boarding pass are not the same. An itinerary is a detailed plan of your travel schedule, including flights, accommodations, and activities. A boarding pass is a document issued by the airline that allows you to board a specific flight on a specific date and time.

The travel itinerary never serves as the boarding pass. The travel itinerary is a confirmation of the booking with the flight details. Here, you must perform the check-in to obtain the boarding pass to board the flight. Checking it online allows you to print the boarding pass.

What is a Booking Reference?

Booking Reference or Record Locator , commonly called PNR, is one of the airline’s internal identifiers for flight booking in the computer system for travelers. The Booking Number is created automatically by the computer system of the airline. PNR number is never generated by the GDS or travel agent.

If your flight has a layover in between or involves different airlines, you can be allotted different PNRs because of different carriers for usage within your system.

Instead of the term booking reference mostly in the travel industry, you can hear PNR, i.e., Passenger Name Record.

What is a PNR number?

A PNR number refers to the record in the CRS or Computer Reservation System database that comprises the traveler’s itinerary. It is the six-digit alpha-numeric or seven-digit numeric code that helps the airline staff to access all the passenger and booking information in one place.

Is The Booking Reference The Same As The Confirmation Number?

The Booking reference or PNR number or Record locator is the reservation number for the trip being booked via any travel agency and is different from the confirmation code. The confirmation code is required for the passenger to check in on their respective flights. These are two different things.

What Is The Confirmation Number?

A confirmation number refers to the alphanumeric code to document and identify the booking. The confirmation number is assigned to any specific airline ticket when the traveler makes his reservation. For booking a flight, the passenger always receives a flight confirmation number; it appears on the boarding pass.

It may also appear on ticket receipts or extras like baggage fees. It also serves as the reference number while contacting the airline or even checking in the flight.

Note 📝: Travelers flying with different airlines will receive different confirmation numbers for their flights unless all of them are using the same reservation system.

What Does A Booking Reference Look Like? Where Is It?

On an e-Ticket, you can check your Booking reference number in front of the “Booking Reference” Field. On your ticket or coupon, the PNR number or booking reference is stated as six alphanumeric characters printed on the right side of your e-ticket.

Booking reference.

A booking reference is a unique code specific to an individual reservation. It is also known as a Record/Booking Locator (or RecLoc), PNR Code, confirmation number or reference number. It can be found on your tickets, booking confirmation or travel documentation. Our booking reference is a six digit alphanumeric combination. You'll see on our eTickets we refer to this number as a 'booking reference'.

eTicket number

Your eTicket number starts with 932 and is 13 digits long. It can be found on your tickets and booking confirmation. You can use this number to check in online and log into My booking.

Virgin Holidays booking references

If you've purchased any holiday from Virgin Holidays, the reference can be found under 'Airline Booking Reference'. This can be found at the top of your holiday invoice.

Travel agent booking references

We also accept booking reference numbers issued by most travel agents. These appear as a six digit alphanumeric combination usually listed in your travel documentation, or available from your travel agent upon request.

More dependable than airlines notification system.

Just took a 2 weeks vacation through Asia (8 flights total, 4 different airlines) and to our delight- this app notifies gate changes, flight delays etc, wayyyyy before the airlines’ own apps or texts or emails (sometimes we get airlines ‘ alerts AFTER the flight has ended). We like it that all of our flights with different airlines info were in one app, so we could keep track. We also like how up-to-date app was with deleting old flight-over different time zones. We tried TripIt app last big, similar trip and didn’t find it helpful since it didn’t notify in a timely manner — so we were reluctant to rely on this CheckMyTrip (recommended by 2 airlines on this trip) but app was free, so we thought why not. We made an excel sheet of all flight information and found we didn’t need to refer to excel at all .

Excellent 2/3 of the time... Update, downgraded to 1 Star

Update.... Still not working as it should. Sent in an email for round trip Air and another email for hotel at the destination and the same hotel upon return to the originating point. Why does it show as 3 separate trips? I now have one trip showing for the hotel outbound, another trip for the round trip air and yet another trip for the return hotel. I only use this app because my travel company uses it but would like to use it exclusively. Until it is fixed, I’ll continue uses Kayak which works all the time. Works great on 2 out of 3 trips I have tried to input. For some reason it won't accept one of the trips on United although another trip that was accepted was United as well. This has the makings of a great app. It has all the pertinent information I need concerning my schedules and I really want to like it but unless it can consistently prove accurate. This is the message I get when trying to input one trip: "8104 - We are unable to find this confirmation number. Please validate your entry and try again or contact us for further information. (8104 [1929])" If this worked, I would easily give it 5 stars. I could be that good. Others had the same problem. Please fix!

No customer service

I have a simple question for these folks - how do I set the monetary denomination for activities? Right now it’s showing in euros, even for trips and activities entirely within the US. I’d like to set it to dollars. The bigger problem is that there is absolutely no way to reach anyone at this company. There is nowhere to put a question, there is no email address, no form to fill out on the app or the website, simply no door to knock on to get any kind of response from anyone within this company. So that’s not so great. A company that completely locks itself out from its users is, in my experience, not going to create a satisfactory user experience. And I have to do all the monetary calculations by hand it to convert from euros to dollars. Dumb. Other than that, I haven’t had any trouble with it. I have been able to get my trips to show in the app just fine.

What is a booking reference or PNR? A booking reference, also referred to as a PNR or Record Locator, is the airline’s internal identifier for your flight booking within their computer system. It is generated by the airline’s computer system, not by the travel agent or GDS. If your flights involve different airlines, there are often separate PNRs for each carrier for use within their respective systems, but you may be given only the ticketing airline’s PNR.

Instead of the term “booking reference”, most times in the travel industry your hear Passenger Name Record – hence PNR. Per definition, in the airline and travel industry, a PNR is a (passenger name) record in the database of a Computer Reservation System (CRS*) that contains the itinerary of a passenger. So what is an itinerary? A travel itinerary is a schedule of events relating to planned travel, generally including destinations to be visited at specified times and means of transportation.

Everything at a Glance: the Super PNR

Now the question is: What is the difference between an itinerary and a PNR? PNR is the technical term for some or all parts (sometimes referred to as segments*) of an itinerary. In other words, an itinerary can have several PNRs. PNRs can consist of one or more segments. A PNR can be booked in one or more reservation systems (CRS) via various distribution channels (e.g. Global Distribution Systems – GDS). In order to be able to access these various PNRs in different systems, from time to time a Super PNR (sometimes also referred to as master itinerary) becomes necessary. A Super PNR is similar to a PNR, however, it can contain multiple PNRs which belong to the same trip.

Example: You fly from Europe/Asia to New York and further on to Orlando. While there are airlines which fly both legs (a leg is one flight from one departure airport to one arrival airport), most likely the most cost-efficient way would be to use a low-cost carrier (LCC) to fly domestic within the United States. In such a case, the flight from Europe/Asia to New York would be booked on a traditional carrier through a GDS, and the domestic flight directly with such LCC. Car rental could be added through another provider as well as accommodation through e.g. Airbnb. A PNR is booked in each of the respective systems with all of these PNRs belonging to the same itinerary. In this example, a Super PNR (e.g. SPNR01) would be created, which consists of e.g. EMEA01, DOME01, CAR001 and HOTEL1.

Sometimes even for the same segment of a booking, different PNRs will be created: e.g. when items are booked through one system (which could be a GDS) and stored in another system – a CRS. This is sometimes referred to as a carrier PNR. Even a simple return flight booking can have two or more PNRs: the GDS PNR and the carrier PNR (the one of the CRS). Now, if interline is added to the mix, which means a code share and thus a different operating carrier (e.g. booked on Lufthansa but actually flown on United), there might even be several PNRs in different CRSs for the same leg (the operating carrier PNR).

As you can see, there are a number of PNRs and it can be tough to keep the overview. Hence the above-mentioned Super PNR: basically a record consisting of all the different PNRs in order to find the respective booking in the respective system that belongs to the itinerary.

How Often Do PNRs Get Recycled?

The number of classical PNRs (not modern Super PNRs) with six digits is obviously not endless and thus PNRs need to be recycled. If you are lucky, you may win the lottery or get the same PNR number again after a few years (I would actually opt for the 1st option). The question is: How long until a PNR is refurbished? A booking reference is 6 character alphanumeric (36), so there are 36^6 = 2.18 billion possible combinations. The odds of winning the so far biggest lottery jackpot of $1.5 billion on January 13, 2016 were much higher than receiving the same PNR number twice: 175 million to one. Still, in 2016, according to IATA, 3.6 billion passengers (PAX) traveled. Flights can be booked 12 months in advance with a ticket being valid for up to 12 months after the first flight – so to be safe, PNRs may not be recycled within 24 months. These numbers would suggest that there are already not enough PNRs for the number of PAX. The answer to this problem lies in the fact that PNRs are system-specific. Two airlines can have PNRs of 123ABC with no risk of confusion. In order to get a unique trip identifier, the combination of system/airline code and PNR is needed. Even the largest airlines carry less than 150 million passengers per year (in 2015: American: 146 M, Southwest: 144 M, Delta: 136 M) and not all airlines are hosted by the same PSS, which provides enough room for unique identifiers before PNRs need to be recycled.

Dear Lena, the Booking Code is unique for the time being until it is recycled .. which is probably every 2 years. This is more or less what you can do with a 6 digit code limited to around 26 characters of the alphabet. Thanks, Michael

On allocation of Record Locators (RLOCs) and their reuse.

The actual possible number of RLOCs is rather less than the possible permutations. For Amadeus, the first character of the RLOC is only chosen from only about 10 characters. Also, I was working for an airline where we wanted to make sure that the returned RLOC did not contain words that would not be safe for work. Since I was the person tasked with this, my emails contained a lot of words that would not be normal in a corporate environment. Needless to say, in house security came to pay a visit. “Algorithms” for allocation of RLOCs really are not published. It is internal to the reservation systems. And they don’t necessarily get allocated in any sequence. Again, taking the Amadeus PSS, the reuse of RLOCs can happen pretty quickly. RLOCs are released just after the last “segment” has been flown. It is a bit more convoluted than that, but it is quite possible for an RLOC to be reallocated within a day or so of a PNR expiring. In an airline that uses tickets, the original RLOC is stored with the ticket, but since that RLOC may have been reused, the actual domain key for PNR is a concatenation of the airline code, RLOC, and PNR creation date.

An airline ticket used to be either a paper ticket, which contained either coupons or vouchers or an electronic ticket (commonly referred to as an e-ticket). Since 2008 IATA airlines no longer issue paper tickets, hence today we basically refer to an e-ticket.

Are you often confused between the terms e-Ticket, Itinerary, and Booking Reference? In this post, we will discuss the key difference between these closely resembling terms of the travel lingo while also learning more about each of these terms in detail.

E-Ticket vs. Itinerary vs. Booking Reference

An e-Ticket is your actual travel document which is equivalent to the old-age paper tickets (that surprisingly still exist). Your e-Ticket contains a serial number which is the most crucial facet of your ticket. The e-Ticket number is exactly the same as the paper ticket number, and it’s your actual travel document’s identifier. 

The ticket number is determined by the airline and used in conjunction with the various airline reporting agencies to keep track of finances. The first three digits of the ticket’s serial number identify the airline that issued the ticket. However, it is not always the airline you are flying on.

The Itinerary Number is simply a tracking number for the specific reservation system you booked through, be it an OTA (online travel agency), a bricks & mortar agency, tour company, or any other medium. It is only applicable when talking to the agency that made your booking.

An itinerary is not the same as an e-Ticket, let alone a paper ticket. It contains not only information about your flight, but also your hotel reservations, the fare from the airport to the hotel, etc., if you have discussed the same with your booking agency (and they have done more than just book your flight ticket).

Even the Global Distribution Systems, the networking systems used by travel agencies, issue their own itinerary and itinerary Number along with a Booking ID.

The itinerary can include a proposed route or confirmation of your travel plans, but you need to check in at the airport and get a ticket to board the plane. Even if you have an itinerary but no e-Ticket or plane ticket in general, you will unfortunately not be allowed to board the flight. 

Itineraries are great for an overview of your trip and sharing your travel plans with friends, family, or co-workers. On the other hand, for a tourist visa, it is best to have proof of a plane ticket out of the country if you need proof of onward travel. 

Although just your itinerary may work in some countries, some may only want to be bothered with a plane ticket since it is utterly unquestionable and more valid than an itinerary when it comes to issuing travel-related documents.

Having a flight itinerary is useful, as it contains information about your flight route and the confirmation number, but having a flight ticket is much more important. Without a flight ticket, the airline will not allow you to check in and board the plane.

Next comes the Booking Reference. The Booking Reference is the airline’s internal database of passengers’ names that is used to book flights within their computer system. Also known as PNR or Record Locator, Booking Reference is one document that is generated by the airline’s computer system, not the travel agent or GDS.

If your flights involve more than one airline, there may be separate PNR’s for each for use within their own systems, but you may be given only the ticketing airlines PNR. The PNR for that specific airline will be something you need to know when speaking directly with the airline.

Now that we have touched the base on how an e-Ticket, an Itinerary, and a Booking Reference are different from each other, let us elaborate on each of these documents, answering the most obvious questions that are boggling you.

What is an e-Ticket?

It is a travel document and can be purchased via websites and mobile applications and is possibly the most important document when flying. The need to print tickets is no longer necessary, thanks to e-tickets! That’s what the whole ‘e’ in e-Tickets is about. In simple terms, if you haven’t booked a flight ticket in a while, print tickets have been replaced by e-ticket or online flight tickets.

Passengers and airline companies enter a sort of contract when the former buys an e-Ticket from the latter.

Along with the personal details that are required for an online flight ticket purchase, the dates, destination, and arrival points and the number of people to travel are also required. All passengers are expected to give their full and accurate details. 

The company has a database that contains passengers’ ticket details. Passengers may purchase their flight tickets online and then only pass the security checkpoint if they have their passports with them.

Checking in with an e-Ticket

Here is a step-by-step method on how you can check-in with an e-Ticket:

Step 1: Print out your e-ticket or the validation e-mail you received before leaving for the airport. Before you hop into the cab and leave for the airport, print out your e-Ticket or the validation e-mail you received upon successful booking of the e-Ticket with the airline.

This gives you a more convenient form of proof than writing down your verification and reservation numbers, and it is a better form of proof that you bought the ticket. 

Step 2: The time margins are 60 to 75 minutes for a domestic flight and two to three hours for an international flight, even with an e-ticket. Thus, make sure to check in within this time frame – besides, it does not hurt to be a little early. The standard delays for checking luggage and security screenings are still applicable to e-ticket holders, even though the minimum check-in times have been changed. 

Step 3: Look for self-service check-in kiosks at the airline’s check-in counter. If you have a major credit card and passport, and the kiosks are functional, you can check in electronically for your international flight. In fact, it is advisable to do so.

Step 4: If there is a button on the screen that says “Start”, press it to start the program. The process requires verification, which translates to the requirement of entering your reservation/verification number and selecting your name or alternatively swiping your credit card. Credit card skimming is required for some self-service check-in systems. 

Step 5: If you are flying internationally, make sure to scan your passport as directed. 

Step 6: Check-in for each leg of the flight is done by following the instructions. Travellers can check-in for four flights at the same time with most self-service systems on the same Itinerary.

Step 7: Enter the number of bags that you want to check. If you are incurring baggage fees that are higher than the airline’s free baggage allowance, you’ll have to pay by credit card at the self-service kiosk. This happens when you are carrying a weight that exceeds the airline’s free baggage weight allowance. 

Step 8: If you want to make last-minute changes to your seat location, select seating arrangements. If you want a seat upgrade, you can pay for it at this time, depending on the airline.

Step 9: If you need to check baggage or have a problem with the self-service kiosk, you can go to the airline counter. You should submit your identification at the check-in counter and give the baggage to the clerk. If you check your baggage at the kiosk, it will save you time, but you still have to hand your baggage over at the counter.

How to read an e-Ticket?

It is difficult to decipher e-ticket receipts since they have lots of travel-speak or hieroglyphics on them (more on that later).

There are myriad details printed on an e-Ticket, from date and city info to even your e-Ticket number. If you want to try to retroactively access your file, you need to have some basic and important information, which is date and city info, your airline and flight numbers, and also the electronic ticket number, etc.

Instructions on how to read a standard e-ticket are included with your ticket e-mail (mostly). If you do not have an instruction on how to read your e-Ticket, here is a quick guide:

A – validating carrier

B – means that this document can’t be used to board your flight

C – place and date of issue

D – electronic ticket number

E – passenger name

F – departure airport code

G – arrival airport codes

H – airline code and flight numbers

I – class of service and travel dates

What is an Itinerary?

A flight itinerary is a document that can be used to confirm the flight schedule and your seat on the flight for a specific number of days.

The Itinerary is the route you’ll take for your flight. It includes the departure and arrival airports, connecting airports, dates and times of the flights, flight numbers, passenger name, any meal preferences, and your confirmation number.

If you need to apply for a visa, you can get a proposed itinerary by serving your flight, but most of the time, you get an itinerary after you book your flight. Many airlines allow you to hold a flight for a certain amount of time, which is usually 24 hours, either free or for a fee, so you can book it later if you so choose. You can keep your Itinerary for up to 72 hours, though the price is not guaranteed.

Depending on the embassy, a flight itinerary is also referred to as a:

• Booked / Confirmed Flight Itinerary
• Flight Reservation / Confirmation
• Air Ticket Booking
• Dummy Air Ticket Booking
• Round Trip / Confirmed Flight Tickets
• Dummy Flight Ticket
• Flight Itinerary for Visa Application
• Flight Ticket Reservation

An itinerary/schedule of your flight that contains details about it that can be verified online, which is the same thing as any of the terms mentioned right above. The document should contain the following information: 

• The name of the person who booked the reservation.
• The flight name.
• A valid flight reservation number or booking ID is needed for a valid flight ticket.
• Arrival date & departure date (given that it is a round-trip)
• The duration and time of each flight.
• The complete arrival and departure schedule of the flight, including in the airport IATA codes.
• The price of the ticket when it’s fully purchased.
• The details of your connecting flight, i.e., if you are going to visit more than one country with the same visa. 

Travellers usually receive this information via e-mail along with their flight tickets and receipt.

The flight itinerary is a guide to your travel plan, whether you are flying to a domestic destination or to an international destination. Whenever you book a flight, the airliner will always give you a flight itinerary.

Where do I find my flight itinerary?

You will most likely get a copy of your Itinerary from your airline. If you are not given a copy of your Itinerary by your airline, you can find it under your trips on the airline’s website, where you can pull up your Itinerary by inputting your name and confirmation number. 

Most airlines usually have a section called “manage booking” or “my trips” or something similar, wherein you need to enter the above-asked information to pull up your Itinerary. You can ask your travel agent or call the airline for more information on your trip, besides asking for an itinerary from their end.

You can receive a copy of your flight itinerary via e-mail, as well as get access to it on the airline’s website. If there is a download option on the airline’s website, you can download a copy of your flight itinerary. It is usually in a PDF format, so you can download, store and share it with others.

If you book your flight ticket from a third-party travel agency, you may be able to request your travel agent to give you the flight itinerary.

What is a Booking Reference?

A record locator or a booking reference is an alpha code used to identify and access a specific record on an airline’s reservation system. A unique record locator is generated by an airline’s reservation system whenever a customer makes a reservation or booking, which is solely why it is also known as a booking reference.

Depending on the reservation system, the record locator can be described as confirmation number, reservation number, confirmation code, booking reference, booking code, vendor locator, or other description.

Each computer reservation system creates record locators that are specific to that system. They’re usually six characters in length, though there are record locators for 7 or 8 characters. Record locators are unique to a particular point in time. Record locators can be used again once the PNRs to which they refer have been removed from the CRS. 

The characters I and L are sometimes not used in record locators because they can be confused, similar to 0 and o. The pool of available character combinations is reduced because of the rules about what combinations can be used for addresses that are booking locators or, simply put, your booking references. 

Use of a Booking Reference or Record Locator

When a reservation is made with the computer reservation system, a passenger name record is created, and the system will automatically generate a record locator for the PNR. Only one PNR will be created if the airline that operates the flight is the one making the booking.

If there is more than one airline in a booking, the reservation for the second flight will be made through the first airline. The first airline will send a message to the second airline to confirm the reservation, and the second airline will create a separate PNR with its own records locator from the second airline. If the booking is made through a travel agent, there will be a record locator and a PNR in the system used by the agency and in each airline reservation system.

Record locators are passed between airline systems during the confirmation process. The PNR can still be retrieved using the flight number or ticket number if the record locator fails to pass between the two systems.

Three corrections officers were ambushed and shot early Wednesday while taking an inmate back to prison from a medical center in Boise, Idaho, officials said. The inmate and shooter are believed to have escaped together, triggering a manhunt.

The Idaho Department of Correction officers transported inmate Skylar Meade to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center on Tuesday night, the City of Boise said in a news release. As they were preparing to leave with Meade at 2:15 a.m. local time, an unknown suspect attacked and fired at the officers, striking two of them. 

A third person, later determined to be a corrections officer, was shot by responding Boise police officers.

Boise Police detectives on Wednesday afternoon identified the shooting suspect as Nicholas Umphenour.

"A preliminary investigation indicates Meade and the shooting suspect got into a grey four-door sedan and fled the area just prior to Boise Police officers arriving," the news release said.

One officer shot by Umphenour is in critical but stable condition, while the second officer shot by Umphenour has serious but non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. The third officer injured by police gunfire sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Meade engaged in "self-injurious" behavior Tuesday night, after which officers determined he needed to be transferred off-site for care, Josh Tewalt, director of the state's Department of Correction, said at a Wednesday news conference. 

"We believe this was a coordinated attack or ambush … to free him from custody," Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar said, adding that they've received dozens of leads. 

The hospital was locked down while police searched for the suspects. A manhunt is now underway across the Treasure Valley to find Umphenour and 31-year-old Meade, who is a documented member of the white supremacist gang the Aryan Knights and has many prior convictions, according to Winegar. 

Meade had been incarcerated since October 2016 for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer with a firearm enhancement. His most recent sentence was set to end in 2036, according to a news release.

Meade, who has a series of distinctive tattoos on his face and body, is approximately 5 feet 6 inches and weighs 150 lbs, officials said. 

Detectives described Umphenour as being 5-foot-11 and about 160 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Officers have obtained a warrant for Umphenour's arrest. The warrant has a $2 million bond. 

The vehicle in which the suspects escaped is believed to be a gray 2020 Honda Civic with license plate 2TDF43U. Both men are considered armed and dangerous, and residents are advised not to approach them but to instead call 911 or the Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris visited Puerto Rico on Friday as part of a whirlwind trip to tout the federal aid the U.S. territory has received following deadly hurricanes and attend a Democratic fundraiser.

Her visit comes days after U.S. President Joe Biden launched a campaign targeting Latino voters ahead of the November general elections. While those in Puerto Rico cannot vote in U.S. presidential elections despite being U.S. citizens, more than 5 million Puerto Ricans live in the U.S. mainland.

Accompanying Harris for the roughly five-hour visit to the island were U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and Housing and Urban Development Deputy Secretary Adrianne Todman. Welcoming them was Gov. Pedro Pierluisi, a Democrat whose New Progressive Party has long pushed for statehood.

Harris’ first stop was to visit a new home in the northern municipality of Canovanas, located near the capital. It had been destroyed after Hurricane Maria hit the island in September 2017 as a powerful Category 4 storm, killing nearly 3,000 people in its aftermath.

En route, the motorcade passed people holding their phones up as it went by. Some onlookers leaned out of their cars to take photos as they waited for the motorcade to pass, while others stood outside businesses and homes as the motorcade continued. One girl held a sign imploring help to fix their home.

“I see we are making a difference. There is still more work to do,” Harris said as she stood on the lawn of the new home draped with a large Puerto Rican flag. “We are ambitious. Yes, we are impatient.”

It was Harris’ first visit to Puerto Rico as vice president. She visited as a U.S. senator in 2017 after devastating hurricanes Irma and Maria pummeled the island.

Harris said one of the ongoing challenges Puerto Rico faces is intermittent energy sources, with outages still occurring daily since Maria razed the power grid. She noted that the federal government has provided some $3 billion in reliable energy sources, including rooftop solar panels. It also shipped mega generators last year to minimize outages.

“(This) is about an upgrade on quality of life and just the well being and dignity of each family to be able to satisfy their basic needs,” she said, adding that hurricane resistance technology is being used. “Puerto Rico taught us some lessons.”

Meanwhile, Todman said that more than 6,000 homes have been repaired and more than 3,500 new units built since the devastating storm.

“It’s undeniable that more work remains to be done,” she said.

Reconstruction in the years following Maria was slow, in part given the spending restrictions that the Trump administration implemented at the time.

During Harris’ visit on Friday, Pierluisi thanked her and Biden for their help: “They’re with us in connection with this reconstruction.”

Hours before Harris’ arrival, a couple dozen protesters gathered in Puerto Rico’s capital to decry the island’s territorial status and demand a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war.

“We find her presence disrespectful,” said Joselyn Velázquez, protest spokeswoman, as a group around her waved Palestinian flags.

Nearby, one demonstrator stood on a U.S. flag while others gathered additional U.S. flags and set them on fire.

“She is not welcome here,” said one protester.

After visiting the home in Canovanas, Harris stopped by a community center in San Juan where a handful of protesters gathered, yelling, “Yankee, go home!” as supporters chanted, “U.S.A.! U.S.A.!” One protester held a sign that said “Kamala Harris war criminal.”

Harris later spoke at a campaign reception before flying back to the U.S. mainland Friday evening.

She addressed about a couple dozen attendees gathered at an upscale apartment complex owned by developer Nicholas Prouty, who hosted the event. Harris thanked him and Pierluisi, noting that the governor “does not pass up the opportunity” to have a list of what Puerto Rico needs. “Mad respect,” she said.

Turning to the general election, Harris said, “We are going to win,” adding that “everything is at stake.”

“What we are looking at is fundamentally an election that’s going to require us each to answer a question,” Harris said. “What kind of country and world do we want to live in?”

Harris then talked about the “full-on attacks on fundamental rights” and said “but the thing about being a role model is people watch what you do to see if it matches what you say.”

She described Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, as someone who has expressed admiration of dictators and “someone who has, speaking of Puerto Rico, used words like dirty and poor and corrupt.”

Mother who left baby at home for 10-day vacation gets life for murder

An Ohio woman whose toddler died after she left her at home to go on a 10-day vacation last summer has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Kristel Candelario, 32, pleaded guilty last month to the aggravated murder of her daughter, 16-month-old Jailyn. Prosecutors said she left the toddler alone in a playpen in their Cleveland home in June while she traveled to Detroit and Puerto Rico.

When she returned from her trip, she found Jailyn unresponsive and called police, according to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office . She changed her child’s clothes before emergency responders arrived and pronounced her dead shortly thereafter.

The toddler was “extremely dehydrated” at the time of her death, prosecutors said , and medical examiners determined that she had died of starvation and dehydration. She weighed 13 pounds — about seven pounds less than what was recorded at her last doctor’s visit about two months prior, Elizabeth Mooney, the deputy Cuyahoga County medical examiner, told the court Monday.

County Common Pleas Court Judge Brendan Sheehan said the toddler’s death “wasn’t simply an oversight” and told Candelario she had several opportunities to intervene and save her daughter’s life.

“You committed the ultimate act of betrayal, leaving your baby terrified, alone, unprotected, to suffer what I’ve heard was the most gruesome death imaginable, with no food, no water, no protection,” he said. He also accused Candelario of having showed “no remorse.”

In court Monday, he compared Candelario’s life sentence to the confinement her daughter must have suffered before her death.

“The only difference will be that prison will at least feed you and give you liquids that you denied her,” he said.

Candelario also has an older daughter. It’s unclear where she was at the time of her mother’s vacation in June.

Her attorney, Derek Smith, did not immediately respond to a request comment. At her sentencing, he said Candelario had suffered from depression and mental health issues, although she was ruled fit to stand trial .

“There’s no justification for her actions,” Smith said, calling it the “absolutely worst parenting imaginable.” He insinuated that treatment she received for mental and physical problems before June had been insufficient.

Candelario addressed the judge and the court Monday, saying that Jailyn’s death has caused her “so much pain” and that she hopes her parents and daughter will forgive her.

“I am not trying to justify my actions, but nobody knew how much I was suffering and what I was going through,” she said, through a Spanish interpreter.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce stepped out together in Malibu on Sunday, to enjoy a dinner date and some sushi.

The high-profile power couple were spotted sitting down for some food together at Nobu Malibu, where they grabbed the attention of several patrons at the west coast hotspot.

Brandon Chreene, a diner at Nobu Malibu, tells ET, "Taylor walked into Nobu Malibu at around 4 p.m. She looked more phenomenal up close than you'd ever imagine. She had a lot of security with her when she walked in through the front and was in high heels and full glam, and looked completely date ready."

"She was escorted to the back part of the restaurant and smiled at everyone. The energy was everything. It was like the entire room stopped and all eyes were on her," Chreene added. "I was there celebrating my birthday, and I’m the biggest fan ever, so today was like a dream come true."

Chreene shared some snapshots from the outing to his Instagram stories Monday afternoon, and praised Swift for her look at the restaurant.

"Travis came out from the back part of the restaurant later... and was all smiles on the walk through the restaurant," Chreene recounted. "He stopped to say hi to a few folks at their tables."

According to the diner, "It was just the two of them there and they sat in a very private part of the restaurant, which was closed off from everyone else. It seemed very VIP."

Kelce's day date with Swift in Malibu comes just shortly after he was spotted in Cleveland, Ohio, earlier this weekend. 

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 34, dropped into Geraci's Slice Shop in downtown Cleveland for some pizza. Kelce -- who grew up in Cleveland Heights -- was photographed inside the location keeping a low profile in black sunglasses and a baseball cap. 

The stop in his Northeast Ohio hometown follows a trip to the Bahamas that Kelce took with Swift, 34, in mid-March. The pair were spotted on the island of Eleuthera by some eagle-eyed vacationers who submitted the  photos to online celebrity blog DeuxMoi .

Swift is currently on a brief hiatus from her record-breaking, globe-spanning Eras Tour, which is set to resume in May, kicking off the European leg in Paris, France.

It's not all rest, however, as later this month, she will drop her highly anticipated 11th studio album,  The Tortured Poets Department .  The album, which  she announced at the Grammys  after winning her 13th statue, will release on April 19.
