I loved everything about this experience, from the pick up at my hotel (sharply on time) to the delicious empanadas, and the navigation, which is an experience itself: you can see Buenos Aires coastline from the river and then you enter the Delta to admire all the floating houses. Our guide Sol was great also, very knowledgeable and funny, and she was attentive to our needs and questions.

Emiliano and Luis were fabulous and made a good tour great. The scenery was wonderful, and we really enjoyed the boat ride and the snacks. But the best part was learning about the culture and lifestyle of the area from Emiliano, whose vivacity and sense of humor made learning such a joyful experience. Luis was a safe and competent driver, and both he and Emiliano were helpful and attentive to all their guests. We would consider this tour a “must do” for anyone visiting Buenos Aires.

Thanks, Enrique, for a fantastic job guiding this tour. I learned quite a bit! The river cruise was very relaxing and the scenery, fascinating. The empanada lunch and additional tour stops that followed were icings on the cake.

One of our best-ever excursions. Emiliano was a superb guide: entertaining, informative, and constantly circulating amongst the group to ensure everyone was satisfied. The cruise, the meal, the markets - all were above expectations. Thoroughly recommended!

The boat ride was really interesting because you see lots of different houses near the water and it was fun to see and wave to all of the passing boats. Our group was great and it was fun to meet and talk to other tourists and exchange stories and experiences. We felt that this tour was just enough time to see everything and feel like we had soaked up a lot about the Argentine culture. We loved it!!!!! Our guide was Sandra...what a lovely tour guide...she was pleasant and friendly and she explained everything very well.

Secrets of Buenos Aires

Day trip to Tigre Delta from Buenos Aires

There is already a lot to visit in Buenos Aires city. But do you have a few extra days available to spend in the capital? That might be the best time to visit Tigre Delta in Buenos Aires. You can even stay there for a few days and enjoy the peace and quiet and get acquainted with life outside the city.

Where is Tigre Delta located in Buenos Aires?

Tigre is an autonomous city west of the capital. Tigre is located at the height of the river delta of “Rio de la Plata”. A brown-gold river is a confluence of two rivers, Paraná and Uruguay. Both rivers have their origin in Brazil. Tigre is located 32 km / 20 miles from the capital. We take the Obelisco as a starting point.

The river delta is characterized by its winding watercourses over an immense area. Tigre is often compared to Venice because of the many small river branches.

How to travel to Tigre?

For the adventurous among us, you can take the train to Tigre. The train departs from Retiro station. A single ticket will cost you about 2 US dollars. The journey by train takes about one hour. Now don’t expect to travel through beautiful landscapes. The train runs through neighborhoods and unfortunately, you don’t have a view of the river.

You can also take a rental car. The road to Tigre is safe. You will pass two toll stations. Remember to definitely have cash with you. There is however a busy intersection of two highways meet.

As a third option, you can always take the bus. I recommend bus 60 then. This runs from Buenos Aires center to Tigre. The bus has several stops in Palermo and is close to 9 de julio. Count on a travel time of 2 hours. It’s quite an adventure!

Of course, you can always book a private transfer or take a taxi.

A day trip to Tigre Delta in Buenos Aires

I often travel to Tigre for a day. It is nice to stay there and a bit quieter than in the city. You can walk and have lunch next to the Delta River. I then leave in the morning to Tigre by train and return in the evening. Actually, a day trip is just perfect. It gives you a different look at life in the city. Many porteños go to Tigre to relax.

Staying overnight in Tigre

A great idea and very cozy. In Tigre Delta in Buenos Aires, you can find several houses (cabañas) that you can rent through Airbnb. The cottage is often just next to a canal and the only way to get there is by boat taxi. You also have some good restaurants on the many islands, with a good Argentine BBQ as the toppers.

Things to do in Tigre

Puerto frutos.

As the name suggests, the port of fruit owes its name to history. In the past, the port of fruit in Tigre was the trading place next to the Lujan river. Now you can walk around there and visit different shops. Don’t expect fruit shops, but rather antiques, furniture shops, gadgets and of course some food.

The small island in the Tigre Delta of Buenos Aires called Tres Bocas. It can be reached with a commuter boat. In 30 minutes it will take you to the destination. Tres Bocas is known for its walk path around the island. Part of the trail is well laid out and the other is made of sand. During the walk, you pass many small houses and also some restaurants. A nice environment to stay.

Tres Bocas Tigre Delta Buenos Aires

Museum of Art Tigre

The Museo de Arte Tigre is located in an early social club. The building itself is worth a visit. You can see the art of Argentine painters between the 19th and 20th centuries. It also has varied exhibitions.

Museo Navel

In the Navy Museum of Tigre, you can admire the history of the Argentine maritime. A rich photo archive with some attributes.

Museum of Mate

In Argentina, you can’t order the national drink Mate. In the museum, you can view over 2000 mate cups and discover how mate became the national drink of the country.

Parque de la Costa

A return in time in Parque de la Costa. The only rollercoaster park in Buenos Aires but where time has stood still. Small but nice for locals, but if you are used to Disneyland or other theme parks, then this is pure nostalgia.

Tigre Delta Tour – Day Trip From Buenos Aires

If you look on any list of things to do in Buenos Aires, Tigre Delta will come up high on the list. Known as Buenos Aires’ waterside gateway, Tigre Delta is a small city that offers a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of Argentina’s capital.

The beautiful canals, stilt houses, and small-village mood combine to create a charming and quaint atmosphere. If you want to disconnect from the large city and reconnect with nature, then a trip to Tigre Delta should be on your bucket list.

We’ve put together all that you need to know to help you plan your day trip to Tigre Delta from Buenos Aires. At the end of the day, you can take your pick from one of the well-established tours, or go on a DIY Tigre Delta tour mission.

Where Is Delta Tigre?

Tigre Delta is a short train ride away from the city center of Buenos Aires. To be more specific, the distance can be measured as 28 kilometers or one hour away (mas or menos).

Located north of the city center, Tigre lies on the Paraná Delta and flows into the Río de la Plata. Still a part of the Greater Buenos Aires area, the Argentinean island is made of a mainland connected to several small streams and rivers.

Needless to say, if you want to enjoy a quick and easy day break from Buenos Aires, Tigre is a top choice!

What’s the Appeal of Tigre?

Translated into English, “tigre” means “tiger”. At first, this may seem like a bit of a strange name for such a fanciful city but the area quickly acquaints you with its heritage by showcasing tiger-themed art all over the city. You’ll find a pair of beady tiger eyes peeping from signposts, graffiti art and on business branding.

But it’s fascinating name is just one of the many reasons that Tigre is so great. On weekends, the city floods with visitors, but its charm remains intact. There’s a strong sense of community and the local businesses operate with pride. The city itself is incredibly beautiful, and the canal-side area is delightful.

In addition to the atmosphere and reputation of the city, it’s worth a trip just to see the environment. The delta is made up of several islands that are home to several stilt houses as well as dozens of thriving plant species.

There are also several species of wildlife. In fact, the area was once used to hunt the local jaguars (hence the name). The houses along the banks are accessed by boat and the families that live in the area have set up a very unique lifestyle.

The appeal of Tigre Delta is in its story-book layout, heritage, and ambiance. As water lovers , we found the location a special pull – perhaps you’ll find something else that you find especially charming!

How to Get to Tigre Delta from Buenos Aires

There are several ways to get to Tigre Delta from Buenos Aires – including the Mitre Train, Tren de la Costa, a bus, a commuter boat and by car. If you’re feeling particularly energetic, there is even the option to cycle the route.

The most popular options are the train, the bus and to drive.

Mitre Train

The most affordable way to get to Tigre from Buenos Aires is to hop aboard the Mitre train . The entire trip is done in less than an hour and will cost as little as $18,5 ARS (less than $1 USD) with a Sube card , and double the cost without.

Make your way from your accommodation to Retiro Station and hop onto one of the Tigre-bound trains that depart every 20 minutes.

Tren de La Costa

The coastal train is a treat of a journey. There are two types of tickets. One makes stops along the route, allowing travelers to hop on and off as they please, and the other goes directly to the destination.

The train has a reputation for being a bit more exclusive as it travels along the river – but don’t expect anything like the Rovos Rail in South Africa.

Another affordable option is to take bus number 60 . The bus departs from various points in Buenos Aires and will cost you approximately $40 ARS (less than $1 USD). The only downside of this option is that it takes slightly longer, totally about 1,5 – 2 hours.

Taxi or Uber

If public transport is not your cup of tea, then you can also catch a taxi or an Uber to Tigre Delta. You can expect to pay a fair amount more, but nothing that will break the bank.

The cost of a taxi is estimated to be around $1200 ARS ($20 USD). Where it costs you in money, it will save you in time and comfort. The trip is less than 30 minutes.

A more affordable private transportation option is to catch an Uber. This cost is less than half of that of a taxi, costing approximately $540 ARS ($9 USD) and takes the same amount of time (i.e. 30 minutes).

Top tip : Depending on traffic, all options can take a little bit of time. We enjoy packing a book, Sudoku or downloading a podcast to help us make the most of the time.

What to Do in Tigre

When we went to Tigre, we had one main aim and that was to go on a boat tour through the canals. However, we decided to make the most of the day and tick off a few other highlights in the area.

There are several great activities to enjoy and sights to see. Here are some of the most popular.

Take A Boat Tour

A boat tour of the islands in the delta is hands-down the best thing to do in Tigre. You can choose to hop on board a catamaran but the true appeal is in the Italian-inspired wooden boats. They are full of character, move like a boss and are super comfortable.

There are several tour providers scattered along the canal, but all seem to have agreed upon a set price of $350 ARS ($6 USD) for an hour-long tour. We suggest that you walk along the ticket booths and see which boat is leaving next and book your ticket from them.

Of course, if you book one of the conveniently designed tour packages from Buenos Aires, then your ticket will be included and the admin sorted for you.

tigre delta boat tour ticket

Top tip: None of the tour operators accept card payments. You need to buy your ticket “efectivo” i.e. cash. We found three ATMs nearby and had hassles with all of them.  If you want to avoid having to walk from one to another, wait in queues and pay heavy bank fees – then bring some cash along!

The boat tour itself is really fantastic. There were two options made available to us. One meandered through the canals, sharing glimpses of the stilt houses, lush vegetation, and picturesque environment.

The other route is along the main river. We can’t comment much on this route, but we were encouraged by the ticket provider to choose the first – and don’t regret our decision one bit.

In addition to the beautiful scenery and fascinating buildings in the canals, there is also an audio guide that shares genuinely interesting information about the area. Our boat tour made the trip to Tigre completely worth it in itself.

Museo de Arte Tigre

We were immediately drawn to this building. Its design is so intriguing and its riverside location adds so much charm.

The museum has rotating exhibitions and is a beautiful rendition of blended architectural styles. Visitors under 12 years old can enter for free, but otherwise, admission is as little as $120 ARS ($2 USD).

To be honest, we only got a view of the exterior of the building while on our boat tour (which is quite a sight in itself).

But if you want to explore the interior and the grounds, then you can do so between 9 am and 7 pm from Wednesday to Friday, and between 12 pm and 7 pm on weekends and public holidays.

Parque de La Costa

We floated past the amusement park and stared on in wonder. The park has quite an impressive set-up and adds quite significantly to the unique atmosphere of Tigre Delta.

With several rides, a Ferris Wheel and amazing views of the waterfront, the amusement park promises to be a great day out for the family. It’s open every day of the week – except for Wednesdays – from 11 am to 7:30 pm.

Daily admission costs $1480 ARS ($24 USD).

Dine Along the Waterfront

While the water may not be as blue and beautiful as Gili Trawangan in Indonesia, the waterway is very picturesque. In addition, the roadside that runs parallel is very charming, leafy and – I’d go as far as saying – surreal.

There are several restaurants and cafés scattered along the waterfront which promote tasty local food and an incredible view. We shared a meal at TBC Resto y Café and while the food was pretty average, the atmosphere (and beer) was great!

If you’re spending the day in Tigre, then you’ll no doubt need a meal at some point. Choosing a spot along the waterfront is definitely a great option.

Walk Around the City

There’s a lot of culture and heritage in Tigre Delta. It’s known for its unique vibe and the reason for this becomes apparent upon arrival.

If you have the time, walk around the city and appreciate the old buildings, museums, and events that are happening all around.

Some key attractions to pop into if you get the chance are:

  • Museo Naval de la Nación
  • Boulevard de Tigre
  • Museo de la Reconquista
  • Delta Terra Natural Reserve

Note: We had the Museo de Mate on our hit list and were super excited to learn about the popular drink that Argentineans are so obsessed with. However, when we arrived it looked very locked up and abandoned.

Final Thoughts on Delta Tigre

We dedicated a full day to exploring Tigre and only managed to scratch the surface. While we did the tour DIY-style, we feel that we could have learned a lot more about the history and heritage of the area with a guide.

Luckily, Google came to our aid and filled in some of the gaps and contributed to a fantastic day. If you’re spending any time in Buenos Aires, we’d highly recommend making the trip to Tigre. It really is a one-of-a-kind city that promises some very unique experiences.

Complete Guide To Tigre Buenos Aires

By: Author Sarah McAlister

When in the busy capital of Argentina, an escape to Tigre Buenos Aires should always be on the cards.

Easy to get to and lots of fun, Tigre makes for both a perfect day trip from Buenos Aires or a longer stay on one of its wild islands.

In this guide we’re going to cover how to get to Tigre from Buenos Aires, tell you a little of the history of this enchanting place and layout all the best things to do in Tigre.

It’s one of our all time favourite places in Argentina, so we’re excited to help you plan an adventure to remember. Ready? Let’s do this.

tigre delta tours buenos aires

Tigre Buenos Aires

Referred to as ‘continente’ by locals, the town of Tigre straddles the T-junction of the River Tigre and River Lujan. It’s seriously pretty. Think colonial buildings, cool street art, fascinating museums and an incredible artisanal port market.

But as the gateway to a vast 300km network of rivers and wetlands that is the Tigre Delta, there are two very different side of Tigre to explore.

A labyrinth of waterways crisscross lush green jungle like veins, creating hundreds of remote islands. Only accessible by boat, the islands are completely off grid with no mains electricity or water supply.

The laid back, charming way of living in this part of Tigre Buenos Aires is what draws tourists and Porteños alike out of the well loved big city vibe of the capital.

The History of Tigre Delta Buenos Aires

Originally just a port for exporting fruit and timber from the region, the Tigre Delta enjoyed a tourism boom in the early 20th century as it drew high society Argentines for weekend getaways. But didn’t last.

Attention swiftly shifted amongst the fickle Buenos Aires elite to the expansion of luxury resorts on the Atlantic coast. The once grand colonial mansions and ornate riverside  promenades fell into disrepair.

Save for those working the land, Tigre was all but abandoned.

But all was not lost and in the decades that followed artists and musicians started to be seduced by the rundown watery world. This created a bohemian and somewhat eccentric vibe amongst the communities that settled there.

And in recent years, with the assistance of huge regeneration works by the tourism board the beauty of Tigre Buenos Aires has been completely rediscovered.

These days there is a very eclectic feel to Tigre Argentina. The town is once again being flooded by tourists on summer weekends and coming full circle as the wealthy seek out spas on secluded islands surrounded by nature.

Exploring the Waterways

Probably the most popular thing to do in Tigre Buenos Aires is to take a boat trip around some of the canals and islands.

As soon as you near the water of the Estacion Fluvial (boat terminal), you’ll likely be approached by a boat tour operator. There’s a few different kinds of options to choose from to explore Tigre’s waterways, so it’s a good to have an idea of the kind of boat trip you’d prefer and get your haggle on.

You have the larger catamarans that have a couple of decks. They tend to offer half or full day excursions and have better views as you can sit up top.

However due to their size they have to stick the main channels of the Tigre Delta Buenos Aires.

Catamaran on Rio Tigre Argentina

Then you have the smaller wooden boats that can access the narrower parts and take you deeper into the Tigre Delta, Buenos Aires. Some of these run guided tours, usually for an hour.

Other boats of this style are simply water taxis that people use to get to and from specific parts of the delta. Like the block systems in the city, you give the address of the intersection of streams.

If you’d prefer to avoid the haggling and have your Tigre boat tour booked in advance, this 1-Hour River Delta Panoramic Boat Tour is reasonably priced and has great reviews.

Or if you’re after a more individual experience, you can hire a private boat to take you around the waterways. This is a good option if you prefer to have more of an input into your route and wish to make multiple stop offs.

tigre delta tours buenos aires

Oars at the ready! The final option for exploring the Tigre Delta Buenos Aires, is a little more manual.

Curiously, all along the river Tigre you will find British style rowing clubs. Some are private, but it’s also possible to rent rowing boats or kayaks along here too.

Or again if you prefer to be more organised you can book a sculling tours in advance with transportation from Buenos Aires included. This Basic Sculling Tour on Tigre Delta is 3 hours and you’ll have a professional guide on your boat to teach you the technique and help with anything you need.

Looking for a longer adventure? No worries – this Full-Day Sculling Tour on Tigre Delta Including Lunch is another great option. Again no experience is necessary. And the itinerary is fully customisable to the groups preferences. The departure point is Tigre train station – info on how to get there below.

If you’re into nature, either of these tours will be a fantastic option for you to get up close and personal with the deltas wildlife and greenery.

Nature In The Tigre Delta

Picture postcard shots of weeping willow branches frame colorful stilted wooden houses, set back from rickety handmade jettys. It really is very beautiful.

tigre delta tours buenos aires

Many of the islands are inhabited and you’ll learn about the fascinating rural lives people lead here. Instead of a school bus, they have a school boat. And if you need to nip to the shop you don’t jump in a car, you jump in your boat.

Others islands aren’t inhabited and are where you’ll find more wildlife knocking about. Particularly birds such herons, woodpeckers and hummingbirds. But also marsh deer called Capybara, otters and the Pampas Cats.

There were once larger cats wandering these parts too. In fact the name Tigre originates from the Yaguareté or American Jaguar. Sadly these were hunted to near extinction so the chances of bumping into one is very slim.

tigre delta tours buenos aires

We always travel with a filter water bottle. Not only does it stop us getting ill, but it means we’re not killing the planet or wasting money on plastic bottles. The GRAYL Geopress is hands down the best on the market & makes water from virtually any source safe to drink.

More About Tigre Delta Islands

There are restaurants on some of the islands, some require prior reservations but most don’t. You can grab a map from the Tourist Information point which shows all the different locations.

Map of Tigre Delta Buenos Aires

We didn’t eat at any of them but heard good things about Gato Blanco and Bonanza.

Some of the longer boat excursions will include stopping off at an island restaurant on their route around the waterways. Expect to pay more at island restaurants than on the mainland, however most say the scenery is worth the splurge from the reviews we read.

Or you can just take a water taxi there. A quick search on most of the restaurants’ websites, will give specific instructions about how to get there, i.e. which ramp you need to take at the boat station and how long it will be.

tigre delta tours buenos aires

For exploring deeper into the Tigre Delta Buenos Aires by kayak, there are some restaurants that also rent them such as Kanoo.

If you aren’t a confident kayaker, this might be a favourable option to renting them from the mainland because you’ll skip out having to mix with the big catamarans as you cross the River Tigre and River Lujan.

There are also options to explore specific islands in Tigre by horse riding or trekking. Although rather than a Tigre Buenos Aires day trip, these are perhaps better activities for an overnight stay. More on those options later.

More Things To Do In Tigre

Museo de arte tigre.

Dominating this section of the Luján River, this stunning building and elegant promenade was opened as a social club over a century ago. Unfortunately an economic crisis and a new law prohibiting gambling in the early 1930’s resulted in its eventual abandonment.

tigre delta tours buenos aires

But recently restored to its former glory and reopened as the Museo de Arte Tigre, it is once again one of Tigre’s iconic buildings. The museum is jam packed with art and there are also some beautiful sculpture gardens to explore.

Puerto de Frutos

If you’re heading to this market for the fruit, be aware that you will likely be disappointed. If, however, you’re after some artisanal crafts and handmade furniture you’ll be in your element because it’s like a giant outdoor etsy shop.

Wicker furniture at Puertos de Frutos in Tigre

There are a few food stalls selling fresh produce, as well as food trucks and restaurants.

Museo Naval de la Nación

If you’re interested in history of this part of South America, this museum will be right up your street. It takes you through a timeline of the naval history, from pirates to trade ships and warships.

There’s specifically lots of information about the Malvinas / Falklands War too.

El Museo de Mate

Curious to learn more about the national obsession of Mate ? Or maybe you haven’t tried it yet? Either way, this is your place. Way more than a drink, if you are interested in learning more about Argentina’s customs, be sure to pop in here.

Mate gourds for sale in Puerto de Frutos Tigre

Museo de la Reconquista

To learn about the Spanish empire and South American colonial history, this small museum in Tigre Buenos Aires, is worth half an hour of your time. Don’t miss the beautiful gardens round the back.

Paseo Victoria

On the opposite side of River Tigre to Puerto de Frutos, you’ll find the picturesque Paseo Victoria. The walkway, lined with restaurants and palm trees takes you along the bank of River Lujan. It’s a lovely spot for a peaceful romantic stroll.

tigre delta tours buenos aires

And anyway you HAVE to go down there to get to the next spot…

Heladería Vía Toscana

Quite possibly the best ice cream shop in the whole of Argentina. You simply have to drop by here while in Tigre Buenos Aires.

Not only do they have incredible ice cream flavours, they will dip the whole thing in chocolate.

Heladería Vía Toscana icecreams dipped in chocolate

It’s called ‘baño de chocolate’ and if you get the coconut icecream it tastes like a giant bounty. Be prepared to get messy, it’s immense.

Here’s the address: Avenida Victorica 470, Tigre.

Sáenz Peña Street Art

Right near Puerto de Frutos is this pretty boulevard decorated with lots of colorful street art. A great place to see an alternative side to Tigre Argentina, it’s worth a little detour.

Tigre Hop-On Hop-Off Bus

And if all that sounds like bait too much walking you can also opt for the Tigre Hop-On Hop-Off Bus as a convenient way to get around. It included audio guide will allow you to learn more about Tigre’s history, people and culture.

Parque de la Costa

If exploring the Tigre Delta isn’t enough excitement for you, you can always check out the amusement park. Personally they’re not our thing and I think there’s way better stuff to spend your time on in Tigre Buenos Aires. But it may be good if you’re here for a few days with kids?

You can get advance tickets with transfer included for Parque de la Costa here .

Not so much a tourist attraction, just a small shopping centre with tacky souvenirs and cheap eats. If you’re walking past, pop in, but probably don’t go out of your way. The China Town in Belgrano, Buenos Aires, is bigger and better.

A travel adaptor that works anywhere in the world? Yes please. It’s one of the most useful things we own & an absolute essential for your trip. This one’s lightweight, durable & also has 1 USB-C port and 2 standard USBs. Get one in your bag.

How To Get To Tigre From Buenos Aires

Being just 35 km north of the city of Buenos Aires, you have quite a few options when it comes to how to get to Tigre from Buenos Aires.

1. Tren de la Costa

Take a bus to Estación Maipú, it’s around a 45 minute journey depending on where you are in Buenos Aires city. Then you need to hop on the Tren de la Costa to take the train from Buenos Aires to Tigre.

Tren del la Costa station in Tigre

This is the ‘tourist’ train and it’s a picturesque 30 minute ride. For foreigners, the cost one way is $42 ARS (£0.80 GBP / $1 USD) if you are using a Sube card, and if not double.

So get a Sube if you don’t have one – you’ll need it for the bus there anyway because you can’t pay in cash on buses in Buenos Aires.

You can find the timetable for the Tren de la Costa here .

2. Linea Mitre Train

You can also take the ‘normal’ train from Buenos Aires to Tigre. When fully operational this is the most convenient of the two train options for how to get to Tigre.

tigre delta tours buenos aires

However there are currently some major works underway so it is only running further along the line from Nuñez station. Not from Retiro and Belgrano stations as usual. We’ll update these details as soon as this changes.

Train from Buenos Aires to Tigre

You can take the bus or metro to Estacion Nuñez, again around 45 minutes. This train journey is 30 minutes from here too, but cheaper at $15.50 ARS (£0.30 GBP / $0.40 USD) one way. We know – crazy cheap right?!

Get up to date times and availability information direct from Google Maps.

3. Direct Local Bus

Another option for how to get to Tigre from Buenos Aires is to take the number 60 direct bus. This does however go all around the houses and will take a minimum of 2 hours depending on traffic.

You will find the local App ‘Cómo Llego’ helpful for times and bus stops, download it direct from your App Store for free.

4. Taxi or Uber

You can expect to pay around $600-700 ARS (£11-13 GBP / $15-17 USD). That’s one way. It’s by far the most expensive route, however you’ll be there direct in around 30 minutes.

Beware that Ubers are technically illegal in Buenos Aires so they can’t always pick you up from all locations. Having said that we used them all the time without issue.

5. Take A Tigre Tour

The final option you have for visiting Tigre Argentina is to take an organised tour direct from Buenos Aires.

This Tigre Delta Tour with Boat Ride from Buenos Aires allows you to explore this natural paradise in style. It includes hotel pick up and a bilingual tour guide.

You’ll also visit the pretty and peaceful neighbourhood of San Isidro. Then have the option to be dropped off at Puerto Madero to grab dinner at one of its many fine restaurants.

Another option is this Tigre Delta Premium Small-Group Tour from Buenos Aires. Again it includes hotel pick up. But this tour is onboard a first-class motorboat with a snack at a local restaurant.

The tour finishes at the Presidential Residence in Olivos, before a transfer back to your hotel.

When To Go To Tigre Argentina

Tigre Buenos Aires is best explored during summer months but late spring and early autumn days are also pleasant. So you’re looking at October – April for the best weather.

Because the Tigre Delta is such a popular spot for weekend trips from Buenos Aires, it will be much quieter during the week. It’s also best to avoid long bank holiday weekends, Easter weekend for example is ramma jammed as Porteños leave the city on mass.

One of our biggest travel regrets is setting off on our first trip without packing cubes. They’re the organisational equivalent of having a chest of drawers on your back & make packing a cinch. This set is breathable, lightweight, & super durable & will revolutionise your packing.

Hi there, I'm wondering if it is safe to use the trains when travelling with luggage? My partner and I will be going from the city of Buenos Aires to stay in Tigre for a few nights and are not sure if it would be safer to pay the extra and take a taxi to keep our luggage safe.

James McAlister

Hey Maggie, yes the trains to Tigre are very safe, we've been on them numerous times and never had an issues.

As always we'd recommend taking the usual precautions you would on any train like keeping your luggage and possessions close by, but you shouldn't have any problems. They generally also have guards and police on the trains.

Whatever you choose to do, have a great time in Tigre!
