FREE admission for kids 12 and under. Rides cost $2 each for all fair-goers.

Military, Veteran & First Responder Appreciation Day

FREE admission all day for active duty, reserve and veterans from all branches of the military, active first responders.

SMUD Giving Monday at the Fair

BRING five (5) non-perishable, non-expired food items to the Fair Gates before 3 p.m. and receive FREE admission.

The collected food items will benefit the Elk Grove Food Bank.

It's almost time for the Oklahoma State Fair!

Below is what you'll need to know before you, your family and friends load up the car and go to the 2024 Oklahoma State Fair.

Dates, Hours and Admission

The Oklahoma State Fair runs from Sept. 12-22 at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds. The fair showcases Oklahoma's agriculture, manufacturing and commerce and features family entertainment and educational exhibits as well as competitions and fair fun.

Buildings will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Outside vendors are open from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The carnival opens at noon on Monday, at 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Below is when the box office is open.

• Through Aug. 25 (Monday-Friday): 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Aug. 26-Sept. 7: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Sept. 8: Noon to 5 p.m.
• Sept. 9-Sept. 11: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
• Sept. 12-21: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Sept. 22: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Before the Oklahoma State Fair starts, you can save when you buy outside gate admission tickets at the OKC Fairgrounds Box Office, online or by calling 405-948-6800.

• Adults (ages 12+): $12
• Children (ages 6-11): $7.50
• Season Passes: $40 (only available online)

During the fair, outside gate admission tickets are available at the ticket booths outside each gate. Same-day re-entry is allowed with your ticket stub and a handstamp from the ticket-takers. Any purchases made using a credit card will have a surcharge added.

• Children (ages 5 and under): Free

Below is a look at the special discount days the Oklahoma State Fair will offer this year.

• Thursday, Sept. 12: Tinker Federal Credit Union Thrifty Thursday: $8 outside gate admission for everyone (children 5 and under FREE); $4 Little Book of Big Deals and ride all day armbands for $25.
• College Day: $5 admission for college students (ID required) One admission per ID.
• Monday, Sept. 16: Tractor Bobs Military Monday: All active duty, retired, veterans and their spouses (military ID required) receive free outside gate admission and $5 Sky Eye Wheel ride tickets.
• Tuesday, Sept. 17: Taste of the Fair Tuesday: $4 outside gate admission, $4 food items from every stand at the fair, $4 Little Book of Big Deals, and $4 Sky Eye Wheel ride tickets for everyone.
• Wednesday, Sept. 18: Senior Day: Free admission for Senior Citizens 55+ (ID required), $5 Sky Eye Wheel ride tickets.
• Thursday, Sept. 19: Tinker Federal Credit Union Thrifty Thursday: $8 outside gate admission for everyone (children 5 and under free), $4 Little Book of Big Deals, and ride all day armbands for $25.

Youth Attendance Policy

Fairgoers under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian or chaperone 25 or older after 5 p.m. Fair officials say ID may be required, and eligible adults may accompany up to five minors. Adults are required to remain at the Oklahoma State Fair while the minors attend.

Officially recognized tour/corporate groups or youth in official Oklahoma State Fair competitions or other programs with established supervisory practices are exempt from this policy. Minors in violation of the policy are subject to removal.

There are various options for parking at the Oklahoma State Fair.

There are acres of free parking available on the north and south sides of the property, and handicapped parking is available at most gates. Paid parking and free parking are accessible from Northwest 10th Street, May Avenue and Reno avenues.

Single-day parking passes and season parking passes are available at the OKC Fairgrounds box office. Single-day parking is $10, and season parking is $50.

Trams also are available inside the fairgrounds starting at 10 a.m. daily.

Cash is no longer accepted for paid parking upon arrival. Fair officials say a credit or debit card must be used. Apple, Google and other "card not present" methods of payment are not acceptable at this time. A 3% fee will be added to each transaction.

The OKC Fairgrounds is located in eastern Oklahoma City, just off Interstate 44 by Northwest 10th Street.

Below is a look at the new and featured food you can try during this year's Oklahoma State Fair.

• Spicy Pickle Pizza – Swains Pizza On-A-Stick: Homemade pizza dough smothered with jalapeño ranch sauce, topped with mozzarella cheese, pickle chips, and sprinkled with a Cajun dust.
• Bacon Wrapped Oreos – The Bacon Habit: A classic Oreo wrapped in seasoned bacon, cooked to perfection.
• Puff Puff – Afrikan Delights: A sweet, deep-fried dough ball that's typically sprinkled with powdered sugar, condensed milk, chocolate, caramel, or Oreo. Puff-puff is a popular West African snack.
• Cap’n Crunch Chicken Sandwich – Boki Food Service: Chicken coated with Cap’n Crunch cereal, deep-fried, then topped with honey and raspberry sauce, served on a bun.
• Cinnamon Rolled Cold Brew Pie – Cutie Pies Concessions: A cinnamon sprinkled graham cracker crust filled with a creamy cold brew pie filling that is loaded with sweet cinnamon roll pieces then topped with whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon and sugar.
• Deep-Fried Doritos Pickle – Diventuri Concessions: Enjoy a large, spiraled pickle, coated in Cool Ranch Doritos, then deep-fried and served with ranch dressing.

Attractions

Along with the usual fair attractions – like the Ferris wheel, Midway, games and vendors – the Oklahoma State Fair offers a lot of new fun for 2024.

Below is a look at some of the new attractions.

• Taste of the Fair Tuesday, Sept. 17: Take advantage of $4 outside gate admission, $4 food items from nearly every stand at the Fair, $4 Little Book of BIG DEALS, and $4 Sky Eye Wheel ride tickets for everyone!
• OK!toberfest: Head to the Fest Tent, located between the Jim Norick Arena and the Bennett Event Center, for German beer, wine, food, and music! Live bands will be playing and the drinks will be flowing Thursday through Sunday, both weekends of the Fair! Step over to Harvell Concessions next door to the Fest Tent for bratwursts and German potato salad.
• Stinkin' Sentra by Dent Source: Four contestants will live in this stinkin' Sentra during the 2024 Oklahoma State Fair! The last person to exit gets to take it home! Stop by and check out the competition on the Centennial Lawn. Visit stinkinsentra.com for more information.
• Urban Homesteading Expo, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 15: Presented by Okie Homesteading. If you’re intrigued by the idea of homesteading but have little to no acreage, you’re not alone. Check out this special event to learn about urban homesteading.
• Bison Encounter, Sept. 19-22: If you have never seen Oklahoma’s majestic state mammal up close or if you have burning questions you wanted to ask about these amazing creatures, now’s your chance to do both. Visit the Oklahoma Bison Association experts in Barn 3 during the last four days of the Fair to experience it.
• Wine & Palette, 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Sept. 19: These painting classes accommodate all from the novice to the master. Supplies are provided for this one of a kind make it and take it souvenir opportunity. Fair admission is included in the registration fee. Visit okstatefair.com for more info.
• Stargazing in the Planetarium: Sit back and look up as the night sky comes alive five times a day with audiences learning about constellations, planets, the structure of the universe, and more. It’s an experience for all ages. Located in the Arts Annex.
• Crackin' Corn Comedy Show: When the cornball clodhopper cranks up his crop-quenching contraption, these rural rubes conjure up a crowd coolin’ cloudburst. You can catch them strolling around the circle or sit yourself down and enjoy one of their shows in the Oklahoma Frontier Experience throughout the day.
• Pirate Adventure Experience: Catch Pirate Man Dan as he takes to the Fair seas and sails around The Circle and down Wichita Walk onboard his pirate ship! When he pulls into a port, you might catch him leaving his ship on stilts or a unicycle or maybe you get a chance to hop on board, grab a foam sword, and have someone snap your picture with the pirate himself.

• The Great American Living Carousel: This living carousel boasts beautiful purebred Welsh ponies that carry their little cowboys and cowgirls under a revolving tent top.
• Pretty Bird Paradise: This is a free interactive all-day exhibit. Fair patrons may enter the aviary and interact with over 100 parakeets. Feed sticks will be available to purchase but are not required. Most of the birds are rescue birds.
• Wick & Whimsy Frontier Candle Maker: Jenni brings her craft of candle making all the way from Rockwood, Tennessee. Oklahoma welcomes her to our great Fair and can’t wait for her to join all the other Frontier artisans in the Oklahoma Frontier Experience.
• Reading is Sweet: Creative Arts Contest, Junior Arts & Crafts, Division 3645 – Kids will create a treat for their favorite storybook characters. Items will be tasted and a reason why they made it must be provided.
• Poultry Show: Grab your feathered friends and head to the OK State Fair! With a variety of classes and divisions, there's something for everyone. Get all the info in the poultry competition guide.
• Major Neurocognitive Crafts: Creative Arts Contest, Fine Arts, Crafts & Hobbies, Division 3523 – This is a preFair contest for those with a major neurocognitive disorder such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, etc., to enter an item they have created.
• From the Beehive: Beeswax & Cut Comb Contest: Creative Arts Contest, Fine Arts, Crafts & Hobbies, Division 3524. Partnering with the Oklahoma State Beekeepers Association, competitors will bring their cut comb and beeswax to be judged.
• Old Timers Showmanship: Livestock competitions are not just the young man's game! Those of a more advanced age are welcome into the show ring! Check out the beef competition guide for more info.
• Supreme Overall Cattle Drive: Making a grand return to the Oklahoma State Fair, there will be an overall supreme drive in the cattle ring, naming a Supreme Overall Junior Heifer, a Supreme Overall Open Heifer, and a Supreme Overall Open Bull!

Disney On Ice

"Disney On Ice presents Magic in the Stars" will bring a new production to the Jim Norick Arena at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds. The show features your favorite characters from movies like "Toy Story," "Frozen," "Moana," Beauty and the Beast," "Cinderella," "Wish" and more, as well as Mickey, Donald and Goofy.

Get ready for fried food and lots of family fun.

Walking around fairgrounds at an annual state fair is incredibly nostalgic. Fairgoers get to hop on the Ferris wheel that only comes around once a year and eat pretty much any fried dessert on a stick you could think of -- cream puffs, Oreos , Twinkies, and even sticks of butter. Fair food is the best, and it seems like there are always a million options. Funnel cake and carnival rides are a strangely perfect combination, which is probably why so many families throughout the United States make it a tradition to attend their local county fair each year.

But there are plenty more reasons beyond sweet treats and snacks to head out to a fair near you. Think of livestock competitions, gardening showcases, and even miniature flea markets, all with plenty of activities to see and take part in as you pass by. Most fairs have tons for the kids to take part in too, so you can bring the whole family along for the ride. This year, you'll be able to check out a variety of fairs across the country, all with a smorgasbord of stuff you can do while out and about. 1. Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul

When: Aug. 24, 2023 - Sept. 4, 2023

This is the largest state fair in the country by daily attendance. They have so many animals onsite too -- even llamas and alpacas. Also referred to as "The Great Minnesota Get-Together," this state fair was voted best in the entire country in 2015 by USA Today.

2. The State Fair of Texas in Dallas

When: Sept. 29, 2023 - Oct. 22, 2023

The Texas State Fair has been running every year since 1886, bringing in over two million attendees annually. The fair, considered one of the best in the country, features Big Tex, a giant cowboy sculpture that welcomes attendees to the historic Fair Park. Attend the horse shows or stop by the state fair wine garden between hitting the rides and eating the delicious food.

3. Wisconsin State Fair in West Allis

When: Aug. 3-13, 2023

For $3, you can take a trip down the beloved 200 ft. Giant slide, a fair favorite for 50 years. Explore the park's 200 acres and make sure to pay a visit to the Original Cream Puff Pavilion.

4. Iowa State Fair in Des Moines

When: Aug. 10-20, 2023

The Iowa State Fair dates all the way back to 1854 and currently brings in over a million attendees each year. Stop by the Thrill Zone for some heart-pumping rides if you're in the mood for a little adventure. Participate in the Bill Riley Talent Search or even one of the many food-related competitions.

5. New York State Fair in Syracuse

When: Aug 23 - Sept. 4, 2023

This historic fair dates back to 1841 and is also known as the Great New York State Fair. Food lovers make sure to stop by the Taste NY Food Truck Competition, where 40 different trucks will compete for the most "New York" items. This has become the largest annual event in the entire state as well as the oldest state fair in the country.

6. Ohio State Fair in Columbus 

When: July 26 - Aug. 6, 2023

Dating back to the 1850s, the Ohio State Fair is an annual celebration of the people and products of Ohio. They have some seriously unique exhibits including a lumberjack show as well as a Little Farmers educational exhibit for children. You can enjoy camel rides, and the butterfly garden, and watch the Human Cannonball Crusaders fly 40 ft in the air.

7. Arizona State Fair in Phoenix

When: Sept. 22 - Oct. 29, 2023

This state fair features one of the biggest Ferris wheels in the world, La Grande Wheel. It's actually been running since before Arizona was even a state. There's over 75 amusement rides and 110 food booths that draw in over a million visitors each year.

8. North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh 

When: Oct. 13-22, 2023

Organized by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, there is definitely a focus on the local farms in the community in addition to the carnival rides and exhibits. There are some interesting educational aspects including the Antique Farm Machinery exhibit which features vintage farm tools. There are also poultry, livestock, and domestic rabbit competitions.

9. Florida State Fair in Tampa

When: Feb. 9-20, 2023

The Midway Sky Eye is allegedly America's tallest traveling Ferris Wheel which is an interesting draw at this unique state fair. Pay a visit to Cracker County, the only living history museum in Tampa that will transport you back to the 19th century and make sure to stop by the high dive show and many fried food booths.

10. California State Fair in Sacramento

When: July 14-30, 2023

This 17-day event shows off California's industries and agriculture with a diverse selection of food and entertainment. There are plenty of family friendly activities including rides, fireworks, and animal displays and competitions.

11. Kentucky State Fair in Louisville 

When: Aug. 17-27, 2023

AgLand highlights Kentucky farmers and field heritage as well as FFA exhibits. The Texas Roadhouse Concert Series brings in a solid lineup of performers each year including 2022's featured acts — The Oak Ridge Boys, John Michael Montgomery, Trace Adkins and Lee Greenwood.

12. Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis

When: Jul 28, 2022 - Aug. 20, 2023

Visitors can attend the hot air balloon race, high school marching band contest, and enjoy plenty of rides and snacks around The Midway. It's the largest annual event in the state of Indiana, dating all the way back to the 1890s.

13. Hopkinton State Fair in Hopkinton

When: Aug. 31 - Sept. 4, 2023

For over 100 years, the Hopkinton State Fair has been an NH tradition. There are livestock shows, pulling competitions, and even a farmer's market. Not to mention a monster truck show and demolition derby which sound pretty entertaining.

14. The Big E in West Springfield

When: Sept. 15 - Oct. 1, 2023

The largest fair in New England, the Massachusetts State fair features concerts, parades, and just about every kind of food you can imagine. There's a reason The Big E is known as "New England's Great State Fair," representing all six New England states in one of the top five biggest state fairs in the country.

When: Aug. 18 - Sept. 4, 2023

Ever since the 1930s, Alaska's state fair has featured a record-setting giant vegetables, flower gardens to explore, concerts featuring the likes of LeAnn Rimes and Brothers Osborne, and special exhibits dedicated to Alaskan and Alaska Native culture.

16. The Fryeburg Fair in Fryeburg 

When: Oct. 1-8, 2023

The biggest state fair in Maine is also the Blue Ribbon Classic Agricultural Fair, dating back to 1851. They have a parade, pig scrambles, and even offer onsite camping.

17. Washington State Fair in Puyallup

When: Sept. 1-24, 2023

The largest attraction in the state of Washington is also one of the top ten biggest in the entire country. Come for the brand new dinosaur exhibit, a little livestock show of miniature animals, and all the delicious food and carnival rides your family could dream of.

18. Oklahoma State Fair in Oklahoma City

When: Sept. 14-24, 2023

Nearly one million people come out to attend this annual state fair that takes place in Oklahoma every September. The horse shows and rodeos make it unforgettable, not to mention the memorable music acts.

19. Colorado State Fair in Pueblo

When: Aug. 25 - Sept. 4, 2023

For 150 years, the CO State Fair has welcomed visitors to its fairgrounds. Their fair features a rodeo, motorsports entertainment, and a horse show. There are even fine arts and small livestock competitions that you can enter.

20. Utah State Fair in Salt Lake City 

When: Sept. 7-17, 2023

The fairgrounds are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the fair itself is Utah's biggest and longest-running event. Enjoy tons of entertainment like the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show, The Great American Duck Race, and Wizards Challenge.

30th annual NC Mountain State Fair kicks off Friday

(WLOS) — The 30th annual North Carolina Mountain State Fair kicks off Friday for 10 days of rides, food, crafts and plenty of fun.

The fair will run from Sept. 6-15 at the WNC Agricultural Center in Fletcher. Gates and buildings open at 9 a.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday.

Fair officials and local law enforcement held a press conference on Thursday, Sept. 5, ahead of opening day to talk about safety measures.

Entry and ride tickets can be purchased online ahead of time . There are several special deal days planned that offer ways to save:

• Student Day (Friday, Sept. 6) : Free gate admission to students grades K-12 until 6 p.m.
• We Can Day (Wednesday, Sept. 11) : Presented by Sheetz. The donation of five canned goods or non-perishable items earns a free admission.
• Salute to Service Day (Wednesday, Sept. 11) : Individuals who are active duty, veterans, or first responders with current ID will be admitted free.
• Student & Senior Day (Friday, Sept. 13) : Free gate admission 65+ and students grades K-12 until 6 p.m.

Popular attractions like the Agricadabra Magic Show, Chase's Racing Swimming Pigs, and the Mooternity Ward are returning this year. In addition, new acts like Hillbilly Bob - Farmer Bob, Magician TJ Hill, and Acrobatic Circus will be featured.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has issued a traffic alert for both directions of NC-280 near Fanning Bridge Road for the duration of the fair. According to NCDOT, the fair is expected to draw 180,000 people and drivers should expect delays in the surrounding area.

Tickets on sale for train to NC State Fair, Lexington Barbecue Festival

CHARLOTTE — If you don’t want to deal with traffic while heading to the upcoming North Carolina State Fair or Lexington Barbecue Festival, you can now buy tickets to take the train.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that the state’s passenger rail service will make special stops at the fair and barbecue festival.

NC By Train will make four daily stops at the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh starting Oct. 18. The train will have scheduled stops at 9:53 a.m., 1:46 p.m., 3:33 p.m., and 5:48 p.m. You can hop on the train from any stop along the corridor between Charlotte and Raleigh.

The fair runs from Oct. 17-27.

The 40th Annual Lexington Barbecue Festival is happening on Oct. 26 The train will stop in Lexington at the following times, according to NCDOT:
