Zipplicity travel pillow

Has anyone used the zipplicity pillow on planes? I saw an ad for it this morning and I like the idea of it. It’s U shaped and if it was packed with leggings, pajamas, shirts etc., it might actually be comfortable, plus aren’t pillows allowed without being considered a personal item? There’s probably a less expensive version of it out there somewhere too.

Thanks for sharing this item, I think this would be a good gift for my wife. We might leave it empty and in our carry on on the way over to Europe and fill it up on the way back with clothes so we would have some room to bring back souvenirs in our carry on bags.

Interesting idea. It is pricey and conservative me is thinking I could make it. Yes, I've carried on pillows separately. I've also been told cooler bags/food for plane is also a "free" carry on. Of course, it probably differs by airline. I've occasionally carried on an old bed pillow that I've cut in half and resewn. I put it in a pillow case and have put a few extra things for the flight into the pillow case.

My problem is that if I have multiple separate items to carry, I tend to lose things. I did once almost leave my neck pillow once. Fortunately, a fellow passenger noticed.

I bought a similar brand several years ago that was a long tube that bent around your neck. Thought it would be a great idea to keep the suitcase within size limits. I never used it. Difficult to pack comfortably and I didn’t want to carry something additional. Someone on the forum used the one I bought, said it was awful and threw it away on her trip.

Has anyone taken a neck pillow on board--outside of a bag--and been allowed to take it with you as well as your other carry on?

I used the Samonsite Travel Pillow Cover ($15 in Canada) and stuffed it with a couple of sweaters, a hat, and mitts for our November 2021 trip to Amsterdam and Italy. It worked very well.

I always travel with a travel pillow of some sort, and I've never had anyone say I couldn't bring it on the plane or have to count it as my personal item. I either wear it on my neck as I board, or hook it onto my carryon.

‘Genius’ travel item that keeps you comfy on flights – and skips hand luggage fees

AVOIDING baggage fees is one great way to keep holiday costs down, but it can prove difficult - especially on budget airlines with strict carry-on rules.

But one "genius" travel item has received praise recently for helping passengers to skirt additional costs.

The neck pillow, by Zipplicty, has a zip along one edge to let users stuff the pillow with items of clothing.

In a promotional video on TikTok, a woman can be seen peering around a plane seat as she watches a man pull several items out of the travel pillow.

Packed inside the pillow were items like wet wipes, pyjamas, a T-shirt, trousers, tops, and an umbrella.

The pillow also had a front pocket where valuables like a passport and mobile could be stored.

Because soft items can be stuffed inside the travel pillow, it can still provide some comfort too.

In the last week alone, the viral video has amassed more than 8 million views on the social media platform.

In the comments, users shared their opinions with one person writing: "Genius, those TSA workers won’t be able to steal your money now."

Another person added: "Yes, this is a good idea."

While several users were impressed by the pillow's design, others couldn't help but notice the price.

Someone said: "At $50, it's practically the cost of a checked bag."

On its official website, the Zipplicty neck pillow retails at $49.99 (£40.34), with the price rising even further to £83.54 on Amazon.

Airline passengers will be relieved to know that there are cheaper alternatives on the market, with some passengers simply removing the stuffing from their travel pillows and packing their clothes inside.

Meanwhile, Kristen Black revealed she rolled her clothes to  make a neck pillow  to get around strict hand luggage rules.

And it's not just neck pillows that people have been stuffing in a bid to avoid additional hand luggage fees, travellers have also been filling cushions with their belongings.

Earlier this year, TikTok user  roadbunnies  shared a video of themselves taking a pillow onboard their flight.

When they arrived at the hotel, they revealed that they'd stuffed extra items of clothing into the pillow.

She isn't the first traveller to try this trick with Ryanair.

Traveller Anya Iakovlieva revealed how she got away with putting all her  clothes in her pillow .

Another woman has revealed how she always takes an extra bag on flights for free.

A Tiktok user has gone viral for revealing a free way to take extra items on a plane.

7 things you should NEVER do in the Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro is the heart of the city, it’s the concentration of urban life. Every day, millions of people go to work and back home. And as on any public transport, there are certain rules – official and unwritten. 

1. Jumping over turnstiles

Passing without a ticket is a challenge, really. There are turnstiles everywhere, and even if there’s a line for tickets (which cost less than $1!), you can now pay with Apple / Samsung Pay or a regular credit card. However, if you are a fan of extreme jumping, security and police on the other side of a turnstile are always ready to greet you.

2. Standing on the escalator‘s left side

Every Muscovite knows from childhood: stand on the right side, pass on the left side. It’s very annoying when people occupy the entire moving escalator, blocking the way for those who are in a hurry. Believe it or not, many people in Moscow are in a hurry! Some escalators can be very long, and passengers often walk up and down not only to save a few minutes and not to be late for work, but also for some much-needed cardio before 8 hours of sitting in the office!

3. Carry a big backpack

People who think their huge backpack or sling bag is OK to everyone, at least, totally underestimate the type of density passengers can be forced into on the train. So don't think any of them is happy to have to press up against your stuff! At least, try taking it off when entering the metro car, and maybe other passengers will kick you a bit less.

4. Taking two seats at once

Some people want to take as much space as possible and put their bags on the seat next to them in a full train. Maybe they think they’re worth more than 258 other passengers on board? Or that others should stand after sitting at work all day? Whatever it is, it’s just rude!

5. Stopping to decide... in the middle of passageways

Do you know what infuriates Muscovites the most underground? Imagine being in a crowd getting out of the train and heading for the exit or changing the station. But there’s a person who’s standing in the very center of the passageway, blocking traffic, and trying to remember where he/she is and where he/she should go. Infuriating!

6. Watching/listening to your phone without headphones

Yes, we understand, headphones are still a bit of a nuisance - even those earpods, but it’s no excuse for listening to music or watching movies at full volume without them. Sure, you might think people around you also want to be entertained during the journey. Alternatively, just put your phone away and enjoy the ride, instead!

7. Jumping on a departing train

It happens everyday, especially when you are in a hurry. Trains often stop in tunnels before reaching the next station, but do you know why? When a passenger decides to jump on the train at the very last moment, when the doors are already closing, the driver has no choice but to open them again , thus delaying the train. As a result, there are other trains waiting in a line in the tunnels behind. That’s why jumping on a departing train will make you even more late – as well as thousands in the following trains, too. You know, trains run every 90 seconds, so don’t panic if you’ve just missed one! Keep calm and carry on!
