River Tubing and Partying in Jamaica
Caribbean , Travel | December 5, 2019
During my press trip with Royal Caribbean, our second port of the seven night Western Caribbean cruise was Falmouth in Jamaica. The shore excursion we did there was probably my favourite of the entire trip and it was a day I’ll remember forever.
Our day in Jamaica involved cruising down a river in a rubber tube, followed by a party on the beach. It was so perfect, and after the previous day in Labadee, Haiti , I was basically on cloud nine.
We did the ‘Bamboo Beach Club & River Tubing’ Jamaica excursion and we honestly couldn’t have chosen a better way to spend the day. It allowed us to do an active, bucket-list type activity during the first half of the day, then chill out and party in the sun for a few hours before we had to be back onboard.
Why I loved River Tubing in Jamaica
I went to Jamaica on holiday with my boyfriend’s family a few years ago so I was very excited to return! We got off Harmony of the Seas and jumped straight onto a shuttle bus. The drive took around 35 minutes but the local guides kept us amused with Jamaican jokes and snippets of info about life on the island.
Last time I visited Jamaica, I stayed at the RIU in Ocho Rios and we actually drove past the hotel on our shuttle bus. It was strange to see the place again!
I wasn’t 100% sure what river tubing actually entails until I got to the river, but luckily I wasn’t left disappointed. Tubing is literally floating down the river in a rubber ring.
The rapids were mild so it was a lot more relaxing than I was expecting it to be (especially when the local dogs decide to join you for a swim). There were a few parts that ramped up a bit, resulting in splashes and screams, but it wasn’t exactly boisterous. In fact, there were a few little kids doing it.

After our time on the river, we piled back into the shuttle bus for a short drive to Bamboo Beach Club in Falmouth, where we really let loose. Rum punch was poured, a tapas-style lunch of jerk chicken and plantain was served to us in our beach seats, and we had a blast dancing on the sand to reggae.
There was even live entertainment, with dancers getting everyone going on the beach.

This Jamaica shore excursion is all-inclusive, so we didn’t have to worry about paying for the food and drinks. We did stop at a souvenir shop on the way home, which was handy for anyone wanting to pick up any tourist tat or rum.
If you’ve got a Western Caribbean cruise lined up, Jamaica is a fantastic country to explore. The people are so friendly and funny, and the landscape is just beautiful.
I’ve already done Dunn’s River in Ocho Rios and a few of the other tourist attractions on my previous holiday so I loved the chance to try something new on our shore excursion in Jamaica. Don’t hesitate to book this one if you have a cruise planned!
The next stop was Cozumel in Mexico – check out the Cozumel shore excursion we did.

We will definitely use your services on a return trip home….one love. Margaret A

Best All-Inclusive Resort In The Caribbean Overall: La Casa de la Playa
The view from one of the master suites at La Casa de la Playa.
La Casa de la Playa
Who Will Love It : Wellness fans; sustainability-driven luxury travelers; scenesters
All-Star Amenities : 24-hour candy boutique; round-the-clock butler service; wireless Bose speakers; special wellness suites; heated private pools; 13-treatment-room spa; rooftop bar with panoramic views; ocean-view library; army of celebrity chefs; harpists and violinists at Tuch de Luna restaurant
What Not To Miss : Exploring the thrilling Xcaret Group parks
Location : Riviera Maya, Mexico
It's difficult to choose just one all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean to be the best of the best, but La Casa de la Playa is a luxurious resort that opened its doors in December 2021, adding to the already impressive list of all-inclusive stunners along Mexico’s Riviera Maya. Michelin-starred and celebrity chefs helped curate the culinary concoctions and Hollywood stars like Malin Akerman, Ke Huy Quan and Mexican-born Lupita Nyong’o have already checked in. For this adult-only, ultra-luxury boutique gem, $85 million was well-spent by Xcaret Group on epic design elements including aurelia jellyfish aquariums in each of the 63 modern and spacious suites.
This resort’s crown jewel is its hyper-photogenic infinity pool that stretches out elegantly over the Caribbean Sea. Housed in three unique buildings (Wellness, Natural and Fiesta), all sleeping quarters have their own pools as well. Butlers are part and parcel of the sweet all-inclusive deal, which includes non-stop treats at the self-serve chocolate emporium, sips at the 24-hour mezcal and tequila bar, raiding the Mexican wine cellar and plundering your extensive mini bar. As part of the All-Fun Inclusive program, visits to the fun-filled Xcaret parks are also thrown in. Don’t miss a customized massage at Muluk Spa (which has water-facing treatment rooms) or a private dinner at Cenote Azul, complete with a jazz serenade.
Best Beachfront All-Inclusive Resort In The Caribbean: Secrets St. Martin Resort & Spa
The grandiose pool at Secrets St. Martin Resort & Spa.
Secrets St. Martin Resort & Spa
Who Will Love It : Couples seeking a private beach hideaway
All-Star Amenities : A grandiose pool, 6 indoor massage cabins with terraces; karaoke nights; fitness center
What Not To Miss : A mango-passion wrap at Secrets Spa By Pevonia
Location : Grand Anse, St Martin
With a unique mix of French and Dutch influences, Saint Martin is the world’s smallest island shared by two nations. It's on the Gallic side that you’ll find Secrets St. Martin Resort & Spa. By making this adult-only property your base, you’ll have direct access to gorgeously secluded Anse Marcel, one of 37 beaches on the island. From there, being whisked away on boat tours to spot humpback whales (between December and April) will be effortless, and all of the trappings of beach life abound: sipping on perfectly crafted cocktails (there are five bars), snorkeling in pristine waters and beach or pool games for when one feels called to activity.
Secrets St. Martin Resort & Spa is part of World of Hyatt’s Inclusive Collection portfolio and the Unlimited-Luxury experience grants top-notch service, day and night activities and culinary rendezvous at six dining establishments, three of which are à la carte. Accommodation-wise, alluring marina, mountain or garden views await in the 258 polished rooms and suites—some even include swim-outs.
Best All-Inclusive Resort In The Caribbean For Romance: Sandals Royal Caribbean
The view from an over-the-water bungalow at Sandals Royal Caribbean.
Sandals Royal Caribbean
Who Will Love It : Couples that want maximum indulgence with minimum stress
All-Star Amenities : Included scuba dives (maximum two tanks per day); Hobie cats and kayaks; 8 swimming pools; 9 restaurants; access to Sandals Montego Bay including shuttle; BMW transfers for select suites; private beach cabanas
What Not To Miss : Escaping à deux to the private offshore Sandals Island on a dragon boat
Location : Montego Bay, Jamaica
Liberate yourself from the intricacies of planning or daily budgetary concerns by selecting Sandals Resorts where the all-inclusive tag is taken very seriously. Even tipping is included except for butlers. At Sandals Royal Caribbean, you won’t have to shell out additional fees for airport transfers, water sports, drinks or gourmet meals. Craving spicy Caribbean flavors? Head to The Jerk Shack. Want to tuck into a bouillabaisse or chateaubriand? French-themed Le Jardinier is the spot. Eateries serving Indian, Italian, British and Thai fare also make up the nine restaurants. The latter, Royal Thai, can be found on the resort’s private offshore island just two minutes away. Transportation to the island (by dragon boat) as well as dining there is, of course, also included.
If an over-the-water bungalow sits at the top of your romance wish list, you’re in luck at Sandals Royal Caribbean. These were the very first dreamy accommodations built cantilevered over the water in the Caribbean. Enamored pairs may also fancy the Romeo & Juliet suites with outdoor Tranquility Soaking Tubs for two, and the swim-up suites for non-stop pool access. All 27 room categories at this resort were designed with lovers in mind.
Best Five-Star All-Inclusive Resort In The Caribbean: Moskito Island
The view at Manchioneel Beach, Moskito’s primary sandy dining spot.
Moskito Island
Who Will Love It : Those seeking utmost privacy; water sports enthusiasts; beach-loving families
All-Star Amenities : Catamaran; two tennis courts; water sports center; kitesurfing lessons; private pools; floor-to-ceiling windows; multiple bars, cinema; child-friendly bunk beds in some villas; babysitting services
What Not To Miss : An in-villa spa treatment
Location : North Sound, British Virgin Islands
You already know Necker Island, Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson’s beguiling flamingo-filled private island retreat in the British Virgin Islands. A mere two-mile turquoise boat ride away, the British mogul has worked his magic on Moskito Island, which debuted in 2020. Words like “secluded,” “lavish,” and “unspoiled” are bandied around when discussing the 125-acre island, which is in actuality, a collection of individually styled, unconnected estates. This is perfect for the privacy seekers and larger groups that want to feel utterly catered for with little risk of sharing their space with others. Those looking to hobnob with fellow islanders may do so at Manchioneel Beach, Moskito’s primary sandy spot. Each estate has a private chef to whip up tailored meals (there are no set menus). There’s also a dedicated house manager who records preferences before arrival and leaves no wish unfulfilled from the moment you reach the impressive tropical surroundings.
Nightly estate rental rates include all bespoke meals, alcoholic tipples, airport transfers, laundry and watery pursuits—sailing the Curaçao liqueur blue seas, kayaking and paddle boarding. Kitesurfing lessons are available upon request as are boat escapes to desirable British Virgin Islands pit stops such as iconic floating bar Willy T, Soggy Dollar Bar (the birthplace of the sunny painkiller cocktail) or the monumental beach boulders at The Baths National Park.
Best All-Inclusive Resort In The Caribbean For Foodies: Cayo Espanto
An over-the-water bungalow at Cayo Espanto.
Cayo Espanto
Who Will Love It : Keen anglers; divers; romance-ready couples that love customized service; indulgent foodies
All-Star Amenities : Infinity plunge pools; personal butlers; hi-fi system; satellite TV; water ski; two-story villas; one over-the-water bungalow; organized mainland activities; snorkeling excursions at the Belize Barrier Reef
What Not To Miss : A decadent uninhabited island catch and cook experience
Location : San Pedro, Belize
Surrounded by crystal-clear waters, Cayo Espanto is located three miles off the coast of San Pedro, Belize. This four-acre, five-star private island has racked up awards for everything from views, romance, service, spa prowess and culinary excellence. Making the most of the sea’s bounty, temptingly fresh seafood is naturally a focus on the menu which is helmed by Executive Chef Richard Gillette who has been perfecting his craft there for 18 years.
Belize's culinary heritage is as diverse as its reef-to-ruins landscapes, boasting flavors influenced by Maya, Garifuna, Creole, East Indian and Mennonite traditions. This gastronomic richness can be sampled in Cayo Espanto’s serene settings and you can dine anywhere you wish: by candlelight on your own private deck, on the beach, in bed or even in the pool. All dining experiences are customizable (preferences are supplied before arrival) and one unmissable foodie adventure is ‘A Luxurious Day at Sea,’ a private yacht trip to cook and catch lobster and conch and other tasty marine delights on an uninhabited island. Cayo Espanto has seven positioned-for-privacy villas with infinity plunge pools, and the all-inclusive rate covers personal butlers, all meals, transfers and endless island bliss.
Best All-Inclusive Resort In The Caribbean For Views: Jade Mountain
The view from one of the pools at Jade Mountain.
Jade Mountain
Who Will Love It : Lovers of bucket list hotels; design-focused couples and honeymooners; luxury seekers; chocoholics
All-Star Amenities : Complimentary sunset yoga classes; guided walking tours; in-sanctuary treatments; non-motorized water sports; an on-resort Chocolate Lab; Chocolate Dream Nightcap turndown service; full-length infinity pools
What Not To Miss : The best panoramic views from one of the 2000-square-foot Galaxy infinity pool sanctuaries on the resort’s southwest corner
Location : Soufrière, St. Lucia
The Pitons, twin volcanic spires that jut proudly from the sea, are a geological wonder and UNESCO-listed treasure in St. Lucia. You’ll find them emblazoned on everything from ice-cold bottles of Piton beer to banknotes and the country’s flag. Guests of Jade Mountain, a widely cherished hotel on St. Lucia's southwest coast, will have uninterrupted views of them right outside their elegant abodes called ‘sanctuaries.’ These lush lodgings have 15-foot-high ceilings, and elaborate infinity pools (between 450 and 900 square feet), and thanks to eco-pioneer Nick Troubetzkoy’s visions, the biophilic design beautifully blurs the lines between the well-kitted indoors, and the Piton-silhouetted outdoors. Jade Mountain’s sanctuaries deliberately eschew the confines of windows and a fourth wall; perfect for looking out at the multi-hued layer cake that is St. Lucia at sunset.
Not content with having sumptuous hilltop views, Jade Mountain is also heaven for chocolate lovers. Think truffle-making classes at the on-site Chocolate Lab and a complimentary chocolate turndown service. All-inclusive at Jade Mountain means butlers called ‘majordomos’ for each sanctuary, airport transfers, guided walking tours, non-motorized water sports and gourmet dining with ingredients sourced from the resort’s own 40-acre organic farm (which you can visit), along with money-can’t-buy vistas.
Best Private Island All-Inclusive Resort In The Caribbean: Guana Island
On Guana Island there are 850 acres of breezy hills and valleys where giant iguanas, tortoises and donkeys roam.
Guana Island
Who Will Love It : Castaway fantasists; reuniting families; conservation-focused guests
All-Star Amenities : Hour’s-fresh seafood; open-air dining; a three-acre organic orchard with available tours; babysitting services; connecting pairs of cottages for families; kitchens in villas; golf carts; beachfront spa; Nespresso machines; high thread count sheets; tennis court
What Not To Miss : Mingling with other guests over a multi-course dinner
Location : Guana Island, British Virgin Islands
On Guana Island, there are flamingo flamboyances, seven beaches, miles and miles of hiking trails and 850 acres of breezy hills and valleys where giant iguanas, tortoises and donkeys roam. Notably absent? Any other island inhabitants. The entire island is the exclusive preserve of hotel guests and a maximum of 35 people are permitted at any time in the 18 rooms and villas, ensuring your stay remains truly intimate. Much of Guana is undeveloped maintaining a feeling that is at once wild, untamed and calming.
Your stay begins with a tone-setting welcome drink whipped up at The Clubhouse before making your way to your space, which will offer views of the Atlantic or Caribbean—or both beautiful bodies of water. Accommodations were built with coral and stone from the island and they take their names from BVI’s distinct, dramatic islands. At 5,000 square feet, the Jost Villa is the plushest with three king bedrooms and a majestic vanishing edge pool. The white-washed Anegada Villa is a favorite that overlooks Guana Island’s Sugarloaf Mountain and the main beach, White Bay. Guana Island is said to have a remarkable 60 percent guest return rate and it provides a profound connection to the environment with nourishing farm-to-table meals and snacks (all included) coming straight from the island’s organic orchard.
Best All-Inclusive Resort In The Caribbean For Groups: Kamalame Cay
Guests are accommodated in their own separate villas, with capacities ranging from two to ten.
Kamalame Cay
Who Will Love It : Journeying groups seeking sequestered indulgence; larger families; travelers with A-list sensibilities
All-Star Amenities : The Bahamas’ only over-the-water spa; the daily breakfast basket brought to your door; outdoor cinema; telescopes; bikes and golf carts; PADI dive shop; beachfront tiki bar; complimentary wetsuits; marina; helipad
What Not To Miss : Mangrove kayak adventures
Location : Andros, Bahamas
Exclusive, secluded and family-operated, Kamalame Cay offers guests the adventure of a lifetime minutes from the world’s third-longest barrier reef. This 97-acre stretch of bleach-white shoreline is an assemblage of roomy standalone cottages that are easy on the eye, and the good times begin as soon as you are ferried or flown in (by helicopter, seaplane or boat). This is a postcard-ready escape where travelers can bond over angling, underwater excursions and stylish luncheons.
Traveling groups will find their groove (and plenty of space) at Kamalame Cay. All guests are accommodated in their own separate villas, with capacities ranging from two to ten (larger groups should opt for the two-level, 6,000-square-foot Cocoanut Villa). This resort is an ideal choice for a family reunion, wedding, commemorative celebration or any other opportunity to gather your nearest and dearest in one scenic locale that has excellent amenities—like the only over-the-water spa in the Bahamas. Kamalame Cay’s standard resort rate includes a heavenly breakfast basket that’s delivered right to your door. Upgrading to the Standard Guest of House all-inclusive package provides all meals, snacks, juices and a tropics essential: coconut water.
Best All-Inclusive Resort In The Caribbean For Water Sports: Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino
The entire island nation is a protected marine park and it’s a stellar diving or boating destination.
Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino
Who Will Love It : Divers of all levels; water sports enthusiasts

What Not To Miss : A sunset meal upstairs at Chibi Chibi restaurant
Location : Kralendijk, Bonaire
For those who venture to Bonaire, a world of technicolor underwater adventures awaits. The entire island nation is a protected marine park and it’s a stellar diving destination with gin-clear waters that teem with pretty parrotfish, seahorses, blue tangs and octopi. Novice and seasoned divers should stay at Divi Flamingo Beach Resort & Casino which is a short stroll from downtown Kralendijk, the petite capital with Dutch gable-roofed buildings in primary colors. Divi Flamingo has a house reef (Calabasas Reef) and offers all the necessary gear and guidance—including certification courses—at its award-winning PADI dive center. Windsurfing aficionados may also hire a scooter from the resort for a scenic drive to Lac Bay, Bonaire’s windsurfing hot spot.
Elevate your stay at Divi Flamingo by upgrading to the all-inclusive plan at check-in or any time before you arrive, which includes oceanfront dining experiences at four venues: Chibi Chibi, pureocean, pureocean Beachside Bar and Slice Pizzeria. Don’t miss the opportunity to toast the sunset, Green Bonaire cocktail in hand, at the upstairs dining room at Chibi Chibi.
Best All-Inclusive Resort In The Caribbean For Nature Lovers: Bocawina Rainforest Resort
Waterfall rappelling at the Bocawina Rainforest Resort.
Bocawina Rainforest Resort
Who Will Love It : Outdoorsy, sustainability-minded travelers; eco-adventurers
All-Star Amenities : Guided tours; interpreters; included nature adventures; waterfall rappelling; biodegradable toiletries; well-marked trails
What Not To Miss : An adrenaline-pumping experience on Belize’s longest canopy zipline
Location : Mayflower Bocawina National Park, Belize
Bocawina Rainforest Resort is the ultimate basecamp for explorers, eco-enthusiasts and anyone seeking solace in the wild. Set within the 7,087-acre Mayflower Bocawina National Park, this is the only place in Belize where one may find boutique eco-lodge comforts, gourmet meals, interpretive facilities and a wellspring of adventures in the heart of a national park. 'Our boat is sinking!': Video shows terrifying moments ferry sank in Bahamas, killing 1

A 75-year-old American woman is dead after a double-decker ferry carrying cruise ship passengers to a popular tourist island sank in the Bahamas, local officials said.
The incident took place Tuesday as the boat departed Paradise Island, Nassau, while ferrying tourists to Blue Lagoon Island, a spokesperson with The Royal Bahamas Police Force confirmed to USA TODAY.
The tourist destination is located about three miles northeast of Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas.
Frightening video taken from the scene shows passengers wearing orange life vests around their neck, clinging to one side of the ferry as the vessel sinks into Caribbean turquoise waters.
Here's what we know:

At least one American citizen died
Police said the ferry left a dock in Paradise Island about 9:30 a.m. with about 100 passengers on board, the Nassau Guardian reported.
"The vessel experienced rough seas in the area, which resulted in the boat taking on water and becoming submerged in waters just outside of Blue Lagoon," police chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings told the outlet.
Police reported a 75-year-old woman from Colorado died in the incident, according to the outlet.
Her identity and cause of death were not immediately known.

Passengers were reportedly all from a cruise ship
According to a statement released online from Blue Lagoon Island, the passengers on board the ferry were from a cruise ship.
The accident took place as the vessel was approaching Blue Lagoon Island, the statement said and emergency teams from the island "quickly arrived to render assistance."
“Passengers and five staff members were located and brought to the island, and two passengers were taken to the hospital for additional care," the statement continues.

'Our boat is sinking'
"Out boat is sinking," Kelly Schissel, an American tourist on board the vessel, is heard saying in a TikTok video she filmed as the boat took on water. "Everybody is freaking out."
Chaos and screaming is heard in the background of the video which shows people with life jackets around their necks, some leaning over the boat looking into the water watching in horror as it sinks.
"I'm on the top floor of a ferry," Schissel says as she continued to film, the boat seen tipped on its side into choppy waters.
At one point, people are seen jumping off what appears to be the back of the boat into the water as others on board continue to shout.
About a half dozen people in the shot are seen swimming towards another boat stopped a short distance from the ferry.
"We were almost there... we weren't actually that close to shore it just kind of looked like it," Schissel said in a follow up video on TikTok shot after she made it to land.
She said when water began pouring into the boat, many passengers were waiting for instruction from crew members, but they reportedly did not give any.
So when they saw someone jump into the rough water, she said, they followed in suit with life jackets and swam to a nearby boat until other boats arrived to help in the rescue effort.
The conditions of those transported to the hospital were not immediately known Wednesday.
In addition to local authorities, according to the Blue Lagoon statement, the island alerted the cruise ship and the U.S.Embassy about the accident.
The statement said the organization would release more details as they become available
