We’ve booked a few trips with Michael now, and have had a great experience every time. On our last big trip we had a visa waiver issue which meant we had to change our itinerary which Michael sorted for us. The 5 stars is only for the staff in Wareham. Deeply unhappy about fairly new policy not helping customers to arrange or help to arrange Visa to USA or Australia as elderly person not being a Whizz genius on the internet. Would be most grateful if Hays Travel would go back to former customer services.

We have recently booked 2 holidays with Brendan, one we have just returned from and one pending. From our initial contact with Brendan through to the final bookings everything was carried out in a very professional manner. Brendan is extremely helpful, polite and courteous and his knowledge of the travel industry is invaluable. He goes the extra mile to ensure your holiday is tailored to your exact needs. We went in to get a quote. We came away with a 3 week holiday. We did not feel pressured. We had a wonderful experience. Ellie was superb, lovely. She is a brilliant member of your sales team. Pontypridd Hays

We visited the branch in person and the service we received from Karen was exceptional. Nothing was to much trouble, she took time to fully understand our family requirements and made sure our booking suited our needs (phoning the hotel directly when all other searches failed). We weren’t rushed and spent several hours with her over 2 days until she found exactly what we needed. This personal service and the final booking would not have been achieved just going on line .. definitely recommend this branch which we’ve used several times now. I never usually leave a review!

A team effort for the customer

I hadn't planned to book a holiday for next summer just yet but some great photos in the window caught my eye. The young lady helping me was patient, helpful & honest. But I was particularly impressed by the way her colleagues were keen to help her, as well as using their experience to help me come to a decision that was perfect but also best value. So refreshing to experience such a friendly, effective & cheerful team effort.

Andrea is really great at her job and so professional. She gives you loads of options and explains everything in simple terms and doesn't use jargon. So easy to deal with and love booking with Andrea as I know there will be no unexpected surprises and can relax knowing my holiday is booked as discussed.

I always use Hayes travel for my bookings as the staff are always friendly and eager to help. Sometimes I find them lacking though sometimes like I have just booked a flight to Thailand and told the lady I wanted a flight that has an allowance of 30kg check in luggage as I always buy quite a lot of items (that can't be bought in the uk) to bring back but when I got home I checked and the airline only allows 23kg. I'M AFRAIDI HAVE TO EAT HUMBLE PIE because on the flight details Hays gave me it does state 30kg. When I'm wrong it's only fair to admit it.

Emily was excellent. From the initial enquiry, the holiday was booked and paid for in under 30 minutes. All the staff at Hays Travel Morrisons branch always go the extra mile. The customer service is outstanding and nothing is too much trouble. They are a credit to the company and long may it continue. They are so professional, but treat the customers like friends. The representative in shop at Winton dealt with us efficiently and was extremely helpful. She advised us about cruising and suggested things about what happens throughout the whole process from boarding the flight to alighting the flight back at Bournemouth. What a joy to deal with someone so helpful.

I dealt with a really helpful, knowledgeable girl called Natalie Lennox. I had never been on a cruise before and she gave me all the information that I needed to help choose a holiday. I hadn't booked a holiday through a travel agent on over 5 years as I always booked online myself. This positive experience has encouraged me to use a travel agent again. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. The Disneyland Resort is kicking off its holiday festivities next week from Nov. 10, 2023, through Jan. 7, 2024, and, you guessed it, there’s a sleigh-worth of goodies on the way. As lights and decorations turn Disneyland Resort into a winter wonderland, the culinary teams have been hard at work in the toyshop – I mean kitchen – putting together plenty of bites and sips to put you in the holiday spirit.

This year, the resort is filled to the brim with delicious delights that will light up your taste buds just like a Christmas tree. Another exciting plant based foodie season with…a fruit tart and sourdough bread. 🙁 It is possible to make plant based options that aren’t sourdough loaves.

I’m really disappointed in the plant based options this year. There are so many possibilities they could have gone with and just decided not to. When Disney is supposed to take pride in their food as being a part of the park experience, they really missed the park this year for plant based options. Please hear our pleas and do better for upcoming years.

The whole reason I initially bought park passes was to attend all of the “foodie events” in DCA. Back in 2019 Disney announced here “ALL of our major quick and table service restaurants will soon be serving up plant-based options.” At first, they seemed to be making good on that promise as many new items were added to the restaurants and there was a decent array of choices at the DCA events, as well. The past two years I’ve noticed a decline in plant-based options overall, but this is a new low. Just one holiday meal option and one holiday desert — both in different parks? Why can’t vegans celebrate the holidays, too????

I’m glad to see another musical popcorn tin! We got one last year and I think it is one of the few popcorn buckets that is worth the price!

And a great selection of both traditional and updated-traditional holiday food and drinks! That Filipino Feast Burrito with pork-belly – YES! The Celebration Baked Potato is a must try, and we have to get the Christmas Tree Pull-apart Sourdough Bread (I would love to put that on our Christmas dinner table!). So many great drinks to try!

Holiday Time is time to indulge!

So so so disappointed that there isn’t anything new and exciting that is Gluten-free 🙁 Gf food has come so far. Disney could make a couple of simple changes to these menus to at least offer one or two options. I know kitchen space can be limited causing issues for cross contamination but really, there isn’t one spot on the whole property that could be dedicated to making and distributing GF food and treats? There is such a market for it nowadays. A classic GF churro would make so many hearts happy! Please consider making more gf options.

Disneyland could make a lot of food items vegan by default, and that way they’d make everyone happy. Relying on impossible meat and sourdough bread is just lazy.

Disappointed (again) at the lack of gluten free options. I understand you can’t cater for all dietary requirements, but it’d be nice to feel included. #coeliac

I wish there were more plant based items for Halloween, Festival of Holidays and Holidaytime at the resort.

It’s about to be 2024 and the only plant based offerings are B R E A D.

I love all of the Gingerbread items and I can’t wait to try that potato at troubadour tavern. So excited!!!

Are any items available gluten free? It is strange that Disney is so accommodating in their regular food options but offer nothing for seasonal items

Nothing for Lamplight Lounge?

Is that right — the Thanks-mas sandwich is only available thru Nov 23rd? What about the “mas” month goers!?!?! We want our Thanks-MAS sammiches!!! Fingers crossed it is a typo!

These plant based offerings are becoming less and less impressive. Pretty disappointing.

Really only 3 new plant based offerings one of which is bread. Disney you can do better.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

6. Novoslobodskaya Metro Station  was built in 1952. It has 32 stained glass murals with brass borders.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.

10. Teatralnaya Metro Station (Theatre Metro Station) is located near the Bolshoi Theatre.

An excellent read! Thanks for much for sharing the Russian metro system with us. We're heading to Moscow in April and exploring the metro stations were on our list and after reading your post, I'm even more excited to go visit them. Thanks again 🙂

7 things you should NEVER do in the Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro is the heart of the city, it’s the concentration of urban life. Every day, millions of people go to work and back home. And as on any public transport, there are certain rules – official and unwritten. 

1. Jumping over turnstiles

Passing without a ticket is a challenge, really. There are turnstiles everywhere, and even if there’s a line for tickets (which cost less than $1!), you can now pay with Apple / Samsung Pay or a regular credit card. However, if you are a fan of extreme jumping, security and police on the other side of a turnstile are always ready to greet you.

2. Standing on the escalator‘s left side

Every Muscovite knows from childhood: stand on the right side, pass on the left side. It’s very annoying when people occupy the entire moving escalator, blocking the way for those who are in a hurry. Believe it or not, many people in Moscow are in a hurry! Some escalators can be very long, and passengers often walk up and down not only to save a few minutes and not to be late for work, but also for some much-needed cardio before 8 hours of sitting in the office!

3. Carry a big backpack

People who think their huge backpack or sling bag is OK to everyone, at least, totally underestimate the type of density passengers can be forced into on the train. So don't think any of them is happy to have to press up against your stuff! At least, try taking it off when entering the metro car, and maybe other passengers will kick you a bit less.

4. Taking two seats at once

Some people want to take as much space as possible and put their bags on the seat next to them in a full train. Maybe they think they’re worth more than 258 other passengers on board? Or that others should stand after sitting at work all day? Whatever it is, it’s just rude!

5. Stopping to decide... in the middle of passageways

Do you know what infuriates Muscovites the most underground? Imagine being in a crowd getting out of the train and heading for the exit or changing the station. But there’s a person who’s standing in the very center of the passageway, blocking traffic, and trying to remember where he/she is and where he/she should go. Infuriating!

6. Watching/listening to your phone without headphones

Yes, we understand, headphones are still a bit of a nuisance - even those earpods, but it’s no excuse for listening to music or watching movies at full volume without them. Sure, you might think people around you also want to be entertained during the journey. Alternatively, just put your phone away and enjoy the ride, instead!

7. Jumping on a departing train

It happens everyday, especially when you are in a hurry. Trains often stop in tunnels before reaching the next station, but do you know why? When a passenger decides to jump on the train at the very last moment, when the doors are already closing, the driver has no choice but to open them again , thus delaying the train. As a result, there are other trains waiting in a line in the tunnels behind. That’s why jumping on a departing train will make you even more late – as well as thousands in the following trains, too. You know, trains run every 90 seconds, so don’t panic if you’ve just missed one! Keep calm and carry on!
