A Day of Exploring Niigata City on the One-Coin Loop Bus

niigata tour bus

  • Steve Csorgo

Niigata City, located on the Sea of Japan coast in Japan’s Koshinetsu region, long served as an important trading port and has a profound history and local culture that still flourishes today. It is equally famed for its wealth of regional delicacies, including scrumptious rice and abundant seafood caught fresh in the surrounding oceans. However, with so much to see and do, first-timers to Niigata City can quickly feel overwhelmed. Luckily, on the Niigata City Loop Bus, rideable for just 500 yen per day, you can tour much of the city’s sights with ease! In this article, we’ll follow the bus route and introduce you to some of the must-stop locations!

*This article is sponsored by Niigata Prefecture.

What Is the Niigata City Loop Bus?

The Niigata City Loop Bus stops at 16 locations in Niigata City, including Niigata Station, from which it departs and returns. Many of the main attractions in Niigata City are included on the route, including shrines, historical buildings, and even an aquarium, making it ideal for those seeking to visit multiple spots in a single day. While it is possible to pay the fare with each ride, purchasing the “One-Day Pass” will allow you to freely hop on and off as many times as you like within a day. Plus, you’ll also receive discounts and even small gifts at designated stores by showing the pass, making it a thrifty way to travel.

The Niigata City Loop Bus first departs from Niigata Station at 9:30 am and continues to depart every 30 minutes thereafter until the final departure at 4:30 pm. Services are increased during the peak season of summer, while they are decreased in winter. Check the latest schedule in Japanese here , or by searching online in English.

Loop Buses can be easily spotted by their colorful designs! The bus above depicts the scenery of Niigata City centered around the iconic Bandai Bridge, illustrated by popular artist Shunsuke. Riding in such an eye-catching bus makes sightseeing in Niigata City all the more fun!

Where to Purchase the One-Day Pass

The One-Day Pass can be purchased at various Niigata City transport information centers (Niigata Station, Bus Center), along with at the Niitsu House, Niigata City Aquarium, Niigata Saito Villa, Niigata Branch of Northern Culture Museum, Niigata City Art Museum, Niigata City History Museum, Aizu Yaichi Memorial Museum, and Hotel Nikko Niigata. You can also buy it directly from the driver on the bus.

How to Use the One-Day Pass

The One-Day Pass can be used by scratching off the current date with a coin. Take care in doing this, as scratching off the wrong date will render the pass inactive. To use it, simply show the scratched pass to the driver when getting off.

Now, let’s take a look at some spots recommended for first-time visitors to Niigata City that can be toured with ease on the Niigata City Loop Bus!

Bus Stop: Bandai City

Niigata manga animation museum.

There’s a surprising number of famous manga authors and anime creators hailing from Niigata! On the 1st floor of Bandai City is the Niigata Manga Animation Museum, which showcases these individuals and their works, as well as offers interactive exhibits like character-themed games, voice acting experiences, an area where you can try making your own anime, and plenty more! For anime and manga fans, this haven of Japanese subculture is a must-see!

Bus Stop: Hakusan Park

Hakusan park.

Niigata’s Hakusan Park opened in 1873 under the proclamation of the Daijo-kan (a form of government in the early Meiji period) as one of the first-ever urban parks in Japan. It is Dutch-inspired, with paths navigating central ponds, man-made hills, and gardens of flowers and trees. Spring is famous for cherry blossoms, summer for lotus flowers, autumn for colorful foliage, and winter for snow, giving it a totally different appearance each season and allowing its beauty to be rediscovered time and time again. It is also right next to Niigata Hakusan Shrine, which boasts a thousand years of history.

Kamifurumachi Shopping Street

Nearby Hakusan Park is the 500-meter-long Kamifurumachi Shopping Street, which is a small-scale, quaint arcade long-loved by locals. Within the street’s wooden rowhouses are both time-honored, retro stores alongside those sporting the latest trends, all bolstered by nostalgic cafes, homely restaurants, craft stores, vintage clothing shops, and more, attracting a diverse range of customers. We particularly recommend Kamifurumachi for those seeking out unique foods, stylish Japanese arts and crafts, and hip vintage clothing.

Bus Stop: Former Ozawa Family Residence

Former ozawa family residence.

The Former Ozawa Family Residence served as the store and home of the Ozawa Family, who were merchants active in Niigata from the late Edo period. They were involved in several industries, including shipping, warehousing, rice wholesaling, land ownership, and petroleum sales, making them some of the most famous merchants in Niigata. Within the spacious grounds are seven buildings, including the main house and storehouse, along with a garden modeled on the scenic Matsushima coastline, all encompassed by a wooden fence. The stones adorning the garden were brought in from all over Japan, weaving together a lavish scene providing deep insight into the life of wealthy Meiji-era merchants.

Bus Stop: Pier Bandai

Bandaijima sengyo center.

The Bandaijima Sengyo Center is one of the largest fishmongers in Niigata City, offering all kinds of seafood caught fresh in the Sea of Japan each day. While most sightseers won’t be bringing seafood back home, here you’ll be able to indulge in freshly-cut sushi and sashimi, grilled shellfish, and a number of other delicacies able to be purchased and eaten on-site. Pier Bandai, where the Bandaijima Sengyo Center is located, is a large-scale market also selling everything from dried goods to processed seafood items, vegetables, fruit, rice, Japanese sake, and snacks. If you’re after the tastes of Niigata, this is where you’ll find them!

Befco Bakauke Observation Deck

The Befco Bakauke Observation Deck is located 10-minutes on foot from the Bandaijima Sengyo Center. After stepping off the elevator, you’ll see the grand Gozu Mountain Range to the east, and Niigata's historical townscape along with Sado Island floating in the Sea of Japan to the west. The south side flaunts sweeping panoramas of the entirety of Niigata City and is particularly popular for stunning night views. The north showcases the port, where you’ll surely become entranced by the coming and going of ferries and cruise ships.

The Niigata 2km Share Cycle Has Begun!

While this article focuses on spots located along the Niigata City Loop Bus route, from September 1, 2022, an electric bicycle share service centered on a roughly 2 kilometer axis connecting Niigata Station, Bandai, and Furumachi, has kicked off to make exploring Niigata City even easier! Using a dedicated smartphone app, you can search for bicycle parking spots called “ports,” from which you can book a bicycle and pay via credit card. Touring Niigata City by bike gives you the freedom to take in the scenery at your own pace, making it an equally great way to get around!

For those considering a trip to Niigata City to enjoy the charming sights and scrumptious cuisine, we hope you use this article as a reference and make the most of your time on the Niigata City Loop Bus and Share Cycle!

Northern Culture Museum and Ito Estate

niigata tour bus

The Northern Culture Museum and Ito Estate is a private museum in the suburbs of Niigata City, the first of its kind in post-war Japan, which preserves the former residence of the Ito family, who were once wealthy landlords. Spanning 3 hectares and taking 8 years to build, the site captivates visitors with its main house, great hall, tea ceremony room, storehouse, and other structures, along with its pond garden and museum of treasures collected by the Ito family. Within the courtyard stands a 150-year-old giant wisteria tree, boasting a trunk circumference of over 1.6 meters. Its many sprawling branches blossom with purple flowers emitting a sweet fragrance between late April to early May, illuminated at night during peak bloom. The garden also becomes a spectacle in November, adorned with autumn leaves reminiscent of a colorful mountain. This vibrant tapestry is visible from the 100-mat tatami hall, and the interplay between the red and yellow maple trees and green pines creates a breathtaking contrast. The garden is also illuminated at night when the foliage is at its best, adding a sense of depth. There’s also a souvenir shop, café, restaurant (reservations required), and accommodation (reservations required). Take your time to explore and immerse yourself in the history and beauty of Niigata. While most famous for wisteria and autumn leaves, the garden presents year-round charm with cherry blossoms in spring, lotuses in summer, snow in winter, and other seasonal expressions.

Hakusan Park

niigata tour bus

Hakusan Park is designed like a Dutch-style garden with walking paths. Featuring ponds, artificial hills, and a carefully laid out display of flowers and trees, this beautiful park is one of Japan's Top 100 City Parks. It is also one of the first 25 parks opened in Japan and stands among other prestigious locations such as Ueno Park and Asakusa Park in Tokyo, Mito Kairakuen Garden in Ibaraki Prefecture, Sumiyoshi Park in Osaka Prefecture, and Itsukushima Park in Hiroshima Prefecture. The park offers various facets of beauty in every season––cherry blossoms in spring, lotus flowers in the summer, autumn foliage, and winter snowscapes. The Air Gardens, which connects Hakusan Park and Ryutopia (Niigata City Performing Arts Center), is a prime location for cherry blossoms. During the cherry-viewing season, the evening illuminations create a magical atmosphere. The park also features a playground equipped with swings and see-saws for families with children. Moreover, within the grounds are monuments and sites that tell of Niigata's rich history, making the park an iconic location to represent the locale. Another attraction of the park is the Enkinkan, a partially relocated and reconstructed former merchant residence of the Meiji Era (1868 - 1912). The building features a tea room and Japanese-style banquet room, which are open for public viewing and utilized for cultural activities such as tea ceremonies.

Bandai Bridge

niigata tour bus

The Bandai Bridge is a solid stone arch bridge crossing over the Shinano River. Decorations within the granite give the bridge a majestic appearance. The current bridge is the third incarnation that was reconstructed in 1929 for the city’s modernisation. The Bandai Bridge was designated an Important Cultural Property in July 2004. Following Tokyo’s Nihonbashi Bridge, this was the second bridge on the national highway designated as an Important Cultural Property. The bridge is 306.9 metres long and 22 metres wide and survived the 1964 Niigata Earthquake. It provides an important transportation link for the local citizens. The bridge has a broad pedestrian walkway and is best viewed from the promenades along the Shinano River. Take a stroll along one of the promenades or board the waterbus to really enjoy the view of this grand bridge!

Toki Messe (Niigata Convention Centre)

niigata tour bus

Toki Messe is a convention centre located at the mouth of the Shinano River meeting the Sea of Japan. Architecturally resembling an ocean liner, the urban building is a highlight of Niigata’s waterfront. The convention centre consists of a large, well-equipped exhibition hall, a variety of 13 conference rooms and an on-site hotel. It offers the perfect facilities to host conferences and parties including accommodation for guests and attendees. On the 31st floor of the Bandaijima Building, the Befco Bakauke Observatory Room rises 125 metres above ground level and is the highest building along the Sea of Japan. Visitors can enjoy a 360° panoramic view of Niigata City, along with the Sea of Japan, Sado Island and the Gozu Mountains. Admission to the observatory is free. The information desk at the convention centre has a wide range of brochures available and is the perfect place to plan your journey around Niigata.

Sado Gold Mine

niigata tour bus

The Sado Gold Mine served as Japan's largest gold and silver mine from 1601 to 1989. Remnants of its 400-year history, like tunnel ruins and mining facilities, have earned prestigious designations as National Important Cultural Properties, Historic Sites, and Heritages of Industrial Modernization. The site is also a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status. The Sado Gold Mine offers two routes accessible without reservation, each taking around 30-40 minutes. For larger groups or those with a keen interest in history, guided tours are also recommended, which run from April to November and take 70-100 minutes (reservations required). One tour is for groups of 10 or more from elementary school and above, while the other is for smaller groups of up to 10, junior high school-aged or older. Afterwards, head down to the Kitazawa Floatation Plant, a vital part of the Sado Gold Mine operations, and a popular photo spot reminiscent of Hayao Miyazaki's film Laputa: Castle in the Sky. It was the first location in Japan where copper production technology was successfully adapted for the extraction of gold and silver.

Tobishima Liquorice Flowers at Onogame

niigata tour bus

Onogame is a giant, turtle-shaped monolith standing 167 metres above ground level plunging into the Sea of Japan at the north-western tip of Sado Island. This massive rock has been awarded two stars in the Michelin Green Guide. Onogame is also known for its landscape of Tobishima liquorices with the surrounding area covered with a carpet of yellow liquorice flowers from late May to early June. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and suitable clothes and follow the walking path to the top of Onogame rock. (The path is subject to closure for safety reasons depending on the weather.) Enjoy the magnificent view from the top of Onogame and don’t miss the wonderful sight of the rock itself from further along the coastal road.

Great for First-Time Skiers, too! Top 3 Snow Resorts and Tours in Niigata

article thumbnail image

Niigata Prefecture boasts excellent ski resorts and is accessible from Tokyo on a 70-minute bullet train ride. There are a wide variety of attractions for first-time skiers and groups traveling with family. We introduce three recommended ski resorts and related tours.

Tokyo, Japan

Niigata, a Must-Visit Destination for Skiing and Snowboarding Enthusiasts

Niigata Prefecture boasts first-class snow resorts with roughly 50 ski slopes, including Naeba Ski Resort, where the Alpine Ski World Cup 2020 was held. First-time visitors and children, along with expert skiers, can enjoy the snow from December to March every year.

It takes about 70 minutes on the Shinkansen (bullet train) to the snow paradise of Niigata from Tokyo. Most slopes are accessible on foot or by shuttle buses. There is even a slope in front of the train station, making it ideal even for a day trip.

This article features areas for first-time skiers and family groups. There are also places to experience Japanese culture, so check them out!

1. Yuzawa: Only 70 Minutes Away from Tokyo!

Naeba Ski Resort

It takes about 70 minutes on the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Yuzawa , a famous snow resort. You'll also find hot springs facilities here, making it a popular destination for amateur skiers and groups traveling with family.

First-time skiers and snowboarders should take private skiing or snowboarding lessons taught by experienced instructors.

Ishiuchi Maruyama Ski Resort Dome Tent

In addition to skiing and snowboarding, there are many other attractions in Yuzawa, including the The Dome Tent at Ishiuchi Maruyama Ski Resort. This is a transparent tent located halfway up the ski slope. The private observatory allows visitors to take in a panoramic view of the snowy mountain, along with delicious meals and hot beverages.

The Night Buggy is an attraction at NASPA Ski Garden. Visitors can ride a six-seat snow buggy, a first of its kind in Japan, to the mountaintop. Although the journey is filled with thrills, a guide will be driving the buggy. This ensures a safe ride, enabling children from three years of age to participate.

After enjoying the snow, a recommended activity for day trippers is soaking in the onsen near Echigo-Yuzawa Station. At CoCoLo Yuzawa, located inside the station, visitors can enjoy shopping for sake and souvenirs until the Shinkansen departs.

Tokamachi is one of the host towns for the Echigo-Tsumari Art Field (*2), an art festival held across various areas in Niigata. Visitors can enjoy art and a day trip to an onsen with a tour of the region.

Every December, Tokamachi is completely covered in snow, making it difficult to view artworks. Alternatively, the town hosts the Snow Fireworks , a dazzling show that lights up the snowfield with fireworks and music. Simultaneously held is the Tokamachi Snow Festival (Japanese), which displays artworks such as snow sculptures by locals.

1 dead, several injured in Honolulu after shuttle bus crashes outside cruise terminal

niigata tour bus

One person has died and multiple people were injured in a shuttle bus crash in Honolulu , Hawaii on Friday.

"Nine Carnival Miracle guests were hit by a shuttle bus in the transportation area outside the Honolulu cruise terminal on Friday morning," Matt Lupoli, senior manager of the Carnival Cruise Line , told USA TODAY. "Sadly, one guest has died from her injuries. She was traveling with her husband, who was also injured and is expected to recover."

The shuttle bus crashed into pedestrians and two concrete barriers at the terminal. The shuttle bus driver mistakenly stepped on the gas pedal instead of the break when they attempted to stop the bus from moving, Hawaii News Now reported.

All of the victims were taken to local hospitals and are being treated for their injuries. The victims are in different conditions ranging from serious to stable, the news outlet said.

"Members of the Carnival Care Team are assisting the guests. Our thoughts are with the guests affected and their loved ones," Lupoli said.

USA TODAY has reached out to the  Honolulu Police Department and the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services for comment.

Eyewitnesses share their experience after the Honolulu shuttle bus crash, reports state

Eyewitness told KITV Island News that the relaxing Friday morning turned deadly after the shuttle bus crash.

"We heard the tire of a vehicle screeching," Lillian Le, a visitor from Denver told the broadcast station. "We looked and it was a bus running over people and hit against a wall."

An employee at the complex said he has never experienced this before.

"We saw the first responders coming, it was substantial, probably about 10 a.m., four or five ambulances, two fire trucks, ten cop cars, looked pretty bad - it's really distressing," Mark Elwell, an employee at the complex wher the accident occurred. "I've worked here 21 years, I've never seen anything to this magnitude, really sad to see, obviously people were hurt pretty bad to be taken away by ambulance."

Jessica Lani Rich, a visitor at the Aloha Society of Hawaii told KITV Island News that the woman who died was celebrating her 46th wedding anniversary with her husband.

RFK Jr. tour bus appears on Binghamton University campus

Campaign members said they are looking to gain support from young voters.

VESTAL (WBNG) -- The tour bus for Independent Presidential Candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appeared on the Binghamton University campus on Thursday.

Kennedy’s campaign is seeking 45,000 votes in 45 days for him to appear on the Presidential ballot in New York State in November

Members of the campaign team said this kicks off a weekend-long campaign to gain support from college students and young voters from around the Southern Tier.

“I think that a lot of younger voters are sort of disenchanted with our choices,” said Team Kennedy State Director for North Carolina Seara Foley.”We want to reach out to them and let them know that we’re doing something radically different here by getting an independent candidate on the ballot.”

The bus is set to appear at SUNY Broome on Friday and in Kirkwood on Saturday. The bus will be present from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

HONOLULU — One person died and multiple people were injured when a shuttle bus collided with pedestrians and concrete barriers at a Honolulu cruise ship terminal, authorities said Friday.

The crash occurred when the shuttle bus driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake, Honolulu police said in statement.

The driver had dropped off customers at Pier 2 when bystanders noticed the bus was moving forward, police said. The driver jumped in the driver’s seat and attempted to stop the vehicle when he stepped on the gas, police said.

One pedestrian, a 68-year-old woman, died. Paramedics took four others in their 50s and 60s to the hospital in serious condition. They also took a man in his 70s to the hospital in stable condition.

Paramedics evaluated and bandaged six others who declined transportation to the hospital, said Honolulu Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Shayne Enright.

Police said speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved, police said.

Black Moms Bring Questions, Accountability (And A Party Bus) To LA Hospitals

A group of Black women sit in a bus with dark paneling but bright blue neon lights running along the top.

Showcasing doulas and midwives

  • Searching for equity in healthcare

Considering pregnancy plans and hospital births

On a recent Friday morning, a group of Black women with pregnant bellies step onto a party bus in Leimert Park.

They’re headed on a tour of birthing centers and hospitals around Los Angeles, in style: leather seats, good music, mood lighting that shifts colors.

“This program is essentially an opportunity for you all to get resources, connect, build a village… because it takes a village,” says guide Gabrielle Brown, a program coordinator with Black Women For Wellness , as the group takes off. Her organization created the expedition.

The tour started this year during Black Maternal Health Week, and shows Black birthing parents resources in their communities and the different birthing options available around Los Angeles. The goal is to help equip them on how to self-advocate. In California, Black pregnant people are three to four times more likely to die due to pregnancy-related issues.

While the tour is just getting started, that topic is top of mind for the women on the bus.

An illustration of a pregnant person talking to a doctor.

“Equity in healthcare is a very big thing for our community, like, we're so underserved and it's just ridiculous,” says Candace Cosey in a discussion with the other expecting parents. “Like, people are dying.”

Last year, for instance, April Valentine , a 31-year-old mother, died at Centinela Hospital in Inglewood while giving birth to her daughter. Soon after a state investigation , the hospital closed its maternity ward . In 2016, another mom, Kira Johnson, died after giving birth at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

“It's important for us at Black Women for Wellness to host these programs and provide the education around how to self-advocate,” says Gabrielle Brown. “Unfortunately, racism is built into the system, into the healthcare system.”

The bus arrives at the tour’s first stop: a cozy house in South L.A. associated with the Charles Drew University’s Black Maternal Health Center of Excellence .

At the house, the expecting moms are greeted with staff that treat them to smoothies, snacks and gift bags filled with a onesie.

The center provides prenatal, postpartum and wraparound care services to Black birthing persons throughout L.A. County.

Clinical manager Keomi Barksdale explains how the center helps with providing lactation support, physical therapy, and getting access to a doula — which is what expecting mom Victoria Levi came on the tour to learn more about.

“I'm still in my first trimester, so I don't know a lot of information,” she says. “No one's ever — in my family — had doulas or had a midwife. So these are things that I want to explore.”

Searching for equity in healthcare

Candace Cosey is expecting her third child in July, but came on the tour because she wanted to make this birth better than her previous ones.

“It wasn’t horrible with my daughter, but nine years ago, with my son, it was just very traumatizing and so I don’t want to go through that, but that’s kind of led me to start being active now,” she says.

When she started going into labor with her son, an ambulance took her to the nearest hospital, Centinela. “I didn’t have anybody in the room with me,” she recalls.

She says a doctor tried to deliver the baby while she wasn’t fully dilated, and she had problems with her epidural being placed correctly. A second try was also unsuccessful, and Cosey decided to labor without the pain medication.

“At that point, I’m like, ‘It’s OK. I don’t want anything.’ So it was like I was forced into a non-medicated birth,” Cosey says.

In a statement to LAist, a Centinela spokesperson says federal and state privacy laws don’t allow them to discuss specific cases without a patient’s permission. They note that patients who have concerns about their care can talk to their physician, nurse, patient experience staff members, or contact a relevant regulatory agency, like the California Department of Public Health: “Information for these agencies is included in our Patient Handbook and posted in various locations throughout the hospital.”

This time around, Cosey says she wants a doula, which Medi-Cal now covers . She hasn’t decided yet on where she wants to give birth, but is exploring the options of birthing at home or a birthing center. “That’s why I’m here and that’s why I want to get more information.”

She’s enamored with the next stop, Kindred Space LA, a birthing center.

Nicole LaCour-Wordlaw, director of operations, guides the guests around the space, and shows them tranquil birthing rooms, equipped with bathtubs and birthing balls for labor.

One mom quips she’s about to go into labor.

A bed with yellow pillows stands next to a bathtub.

The next and final stops of the tour are two hospitals: Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and L.A. County General Medical Center, formerly known as LAC-USC.

You might notice this story uses the term pregnant or birthing people. That's because our newsroom uses language in reproductive health that includes people of different genders who can give birth.

To see a full explanation of our language choices, check out Dialogue , LAist’s style guide, and  give us feedback .

On the way there, several of the women discuss Cedars’ history with Black maternal health, most notably the death of Kira Johnson in 2016.

Gabrielle Brown, with Black Women For Wellness, explains choosing the hospital was intentional, and that it’s been working to address Black maternal and infant health.

“We wanted to be sure to introduce our mamas to the care that Cedars-Sinai provides. But also, when we show up, our goal is to hold Cedars accountable,” she says. “Let them know that, you know, ‘These Black mamas are interested in seeking care here. What do you all have to offer?’”

At the hospital, nurse Paola Wong guides the group to a labor and delivery room, showing the different options a birthing parent has when it’s time to give birth, like using a squat bar on the hospital bed, playing music or dimming the lights.

She explains that after birth, nurses and doctors will leave the baby on mom’s chest for an hour to help them transition to their new world.

“It’s a form of stress being squeezed out, and so being able to be right on mom’s chest, we call it froggy position — ear on mom’s heart.”

A woman in purple scrubs stands next to a hospital bed.

At L.A. County General Hospital across town, nurses guide them through the towering hospital into the labor and delivery ward.

Midwife Tatjana Muwwakkil explains for people who don’t have a doula, the hospital provides an option to have medical students serve as doulas.

If you're interested in a future Black Mamas Birthing Tour, reach out to Black Women For Wellness.

“Last week for a patient, we called one of our medical students, and then they came and supported her through her labor and her postpartum, and it was a great service for her,” she says.

“Just because you're having a surgery or giving birth in the hospital doesn't mean it's all out of your control,” says med student and Black Women for Wellness intern Kayla Blair, mentioning doulas and incorporating birth plans.

She said one of the big benefits of the tour is giving people options.

“In my experience, a lot of times people in the community might just go to maybe the first provider, the first clinic or something that's available to them,” Blair says. “A benefit of this experience is you can go and ask all the questions and you’re not stuck there.”

Sir Paul McCartney’s Wings tour bus could fetch up to £200,000 at auction

A bus once used by Sir Paul McCartney during the 1972 Wings Over Europe tour is going under the hammer at auction.

The eye-catching double-decker bus was used by Sir Paul and Linda McCartney, as well as the rest of Wings, to travel more than 7,500 miles across nine countries and 25 cities during the summer of 1972 – with its psychedelic colour scheme ensuring nobody missed it wherever it went.

Completely and faithfully restored to its original heyday condition, the bus features wooden bunk beds, bright yellow colours and a bespoke cover for the upper deck which features “1972 Wings Tour Bus” graphics.

The top deck itself has been engineered as a performance space – now referred to as The McCartney Stage.

Sold by Car and Classic via online auction, the bus could fetch up to £200,000 by the time the hammer falls. The auction is set to run from April 22-29.

The bus is accompanied by artefacts and memorabilia donated by founding Wings member Danny Seiwell, while an official licence permits the use of artwork, logos and the names of both Paul and Linda McCartney.

Dale Vinten, Car & Classic head of editorial, said: “Just as [John] Lennon’s Rolls-Royce and the notable cars of other Beatles members carry the weight of history, tour buses tell a different story, and bear witness to the behind-the-scenes magic that fuels the onstage brilliance.

“This essence is perfectly encapsulated in the Wings tour bus, still adorned in its psychedelic colours, and restored to how it would’ve been when the McCartneys and the rest of the band toured Europe over the summer of 72.”
