What does a Tour Manager do?

Tour managers take care of nearly every aspect of the lives of  musicians and  crew while on the road, providing organizational, administrative, and boots-on-the-ground support for the duration of a concert tour. They make transportation and lodging arrangements; communicate in advance with concert producers and  venue management  to coordinate load-in, sound check, and set times; convey the band's hospitality needs (backstage catering and dressing room setup); see to it that musicians and crew get to their next stop safely and on time; and ensure that the artist's rider requests are met.

The best tour managers are well-prepared for the issues and crises that sometimes arise on tour, and deal with them resourcefully and efficiently.

Tour managers create day sheets that detail each day's schedule and  distribute them  to the band and crew. If there are media engagements planned—such as a record store appearance, a radio station visit, or an interview—the tour manager is responsible for making sure everyone is where they need to be.  Perhaps most importantly, the tour manager manages the tour's finances, keeping a close eye on the money that comes in and out to ensure everything stays within the tour accountant's budget.  When a problem arises, whether it's due to a dispute with a promoter , a passport emergency, guest list gaffes, or the artist's own bad behavior, it's the tour manager's job to resolve the issue and restore peace. In some cases, tour managers work closely with a tour publicist to ensure attendance of the shows, and those who work on smaller tours might take on additional duties, such as overseeing production elements like lighting and sound or working the merch table.

At a Glance

Some tour managers start out as musicians  or concert techs ; others have experience as festival staff , booking agents , promoters , or live sound engineers , or in similar live-music roles. With experience, connections, and a reputation for good work, tour managers can advance to better-paying jobs with more prominent bands and artists, or join the ranks of a record label or concert promotion company. They can also go into other aspects of management, becoming an artist manager ,  venue manager , artist relations manager , or company manager to an orchestra.

Tour management is typically freelance work, although the most experienced tour managers may be able to snag in-house positions at record labels.  It's vital that aspiring tour managers have proven experience living on the road and managing a creative undertaking.  As with many live music gigs, g etting hired as a tour manager is often a matter of word-of-mouth referrals.   To get started, some tour managers do the work for little or no pay with a friend's band.

  • Schedule management
  • Personnel management
  • Experience touring
  • Proactive communication skills
  • Problem-solving
  • Multitasking and organization

Tour managers must be excellent multitaskers with terrific time management and organizational skills. Being proactive and making the most of downtime (e.g., while traveling between tour stops) is extremely important to staying on top of work. The best tour managers are well-prepared for the issues and crises that sometimes arise on tour, and deal with them resourcefully and efficiently. They  should also be capable of handling interpersonal conflicts—which occur frequently on tour—with grace.

It's easy to forget that managing a tour means going on tour oneself. Just like the musicians and crew members they manage, tour managers spend hours riding in cars, buses, and/or planes, work long days that continue well into the night, and sleep in hotels and motels in unfamiliar cities. They also enjoy all the benefits of going on tour: paid travel, free concerts, and new experiences and opportunities around every corner. It's  vitally important for a tour manager's long-term success and well-being that he or she enjoys life on the road, highs and lows alike.

“I got to see two amazing shows of the Eras Tour. The last of the leg that Taylor has until she’s back at it here in a couple months,” he said. “Yeah outside of that, got to eat some lovely Singapore food and just catch the views. Everything over there just seems so nice.”

After dancing energetically at her concert, and stepping out for a romantic dinner date together, the pair jetted back to the US to attend a 2024 Oscars afterparty together.

Though the pop star and her athlete beau, both 34, weren’t at the ceremony itself, they partied the night away at Madonna and Guy Oseary’s starry bash, held at the talent manager’s Hollywood Hills home.

Both Swift and Travis are becoming accustomed to jetting around the world for each other. The NFL player spent a whirlwind two days Down Under while the “Lover” singer performed in Sydney.

She returned the favor by flying to Las Vegas to cheer him on to victory at the 2024 Super Bowl.

The 14-time Grammy winner previously spoke out about the importance of supporting her partner — and having that support reciprocated.

“When you say a relationship is public, that means I’m going to see him do what he loves, we’re showing up for each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” she  told TIME  in December.

“The opposite of that is you have to go to an extreme amount of effort to make sure no one knows that you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”

The full version is one of five songs added to the newly expanded, streaming edition of “The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)” that were not in previous cuts of the concert movie. This extended cut premieres on Disney+ Thursday at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET.

Besides “Cardigan,” the long cut coming out Thursday night will also include several acoustic songs that Swift played as surprises during the run of shows filmed at L.A.’s SoFi Stadium last August. Improvement Of The Development Management Process Of The Samara-Togliatti Agriculture

The relevance of the study of agglomeration processes is due to the fact that today, agglomerations are the most popular forms of territorial organization of settlement. In Russia with its vast territory, spatial factors play a great role in the development of the regions, agglomerations and the country. The development of agglomerations gives the region the opportunity to maintain and increase the competitiveness of the regional economy and further development of domestic consumer market. Agglomerations contribute to increasing the attractiveness of the region due to the accumulation of labour resources, business development and innovative educational environment. The development of the agglomeration also results in an increase in life quality of the population, an increase in the migration attractiveness of the region. In this regard, this article is aimed at studying the process of managing the development of the agglomeration, developing trends for improving the development of the Samara-Togliatti agglomeration. The article identifies 14 components of agglomerations’ development. They are economic and institutional components. Within these components of agglomerations’ development, the trends of the Samara-Togliatti agglomeration are identified, which are associated with the strategy of socio-economic development of the Samara region. The agglomeration development process must be regulated, since independent uncontrolled development can lead to negative consequences. In this regard, the model of management agglomeration system was elaborated taking into account the selected components with the definition of managing and managed subsystems and other elements of the system. Keywords: Agglomeration agglomeration components agglomeration development trends agglomeration development management system model

Problem Statement

The problems of agglomerations’ development are reflected in the works of Russian scientists. In particular, Lappo and Honsch ( 2000 ), in his studies of the history of agglomerations development in Russia, noted that improving the economic structure of Russian cities, laws on environment protection and balanced settlement policy could potentially lead to a general improvement in life quality and economic opportunities.

Loibl, Etminan, Gebetsroither-Geringer, Neumann and Sanchez-Guzman ( 2018 ) see growth as the main driver of urban metropolitan areas. The main reason for the growth is people’s migration to cities, which is caused by people's expectations to find more favourable living conditions.

There is research about the stages of spatial expansion of urban agglomeration ( Fang & Yu, 2017 ); transport routes’ overloading, which can be solved by forming a polycentric agglomeration model based on clusters, including efficient transport infrastructure ( Tokunova, 2017 ) and the development of a model of transport demand ( Yakimov, 2018 ). In addition to public transport, the authors of the articles also determine other directions for agglomerations’ development: urban regulation, housing construction, social sphere development, and labour market ( Popodko, 2017 ).

The issue of agglomerations’ development is also essential foe Chinese scientists who are considering a policy to optimize the development of Chinese urban agglomerations ( He, Zhou, Tang, Fan, & Guo, 2019 ), issues of their sustainable development, design and operational management of agglomeration systems ( Huang et al., 2020 ). There are articles with the research about the problems of agglomerations’ development in Central and Eastern Europe, their main growth factors were foreign investment resources and clusters’ creation ( Starostina, Ustymenko, & Shevchenko, 2017 ). Agglomeration is considered as a centre for regional economic development based on tourism industry, sharing infrastructure, and adapting to climate change ( Rahayu, Haigh, & Amaratunga, 2018 ). Some researchers determine the impact of agglomerations’ development on the population’s standard of living, creating comfortable living conditions, and obtaining high-quality educational, medical, and social services at reasonable prices ( Bershadsky, Nepomnyaschaya, & Shilova, 2012 ).

Thus, the authors will define certain aspects of agglomeration processes: production, labor, cultural, domestic, transport, but there is still no unified integrated structure that takes into account all the components of agglomeration processes. In addition, the methodology for managing socio-economic development of agglomerations in our country isn’t elaborated yet. All of above-mentioned facts indicate the relevance of the research topic.

Research Questions

Taking into account the gap in analysed works of scientists, there are following questions in the research:

What components should be taken into account in the process of managing the agglomeration’s development?

What are the development trends of the Samara-Togliatti agglomeration?

What is the model of agglomeration’s development management system?

Purpose of the Study

The aim of the study is to analyse the current state and to find ways to improve the development management process of the Samara-Togliatti agglomeration.

In accordance with this aim, the research seeks to solve the following main tasks:

Identify the components of agglomeration development management;

Determine the main development trends of the samara-togliatti agglomeration;

Develop a model of agglomeration development management system.

The object of research is the Samara-Togliatti agglomeration. The subject of the research is organizational and economic relations in the process of managing the development of the Samara-Togliatti agglomeration.

The materials of the article are of practical value for programs’ elaboration of socio-economic development at the regional and municipal levels, as well as the development strategy of the city of Samara and the Samara region.

The novelty of the research is the following:

The components of agglomeration development management are determined;

For each component, the development trends of STA are identified;

The model for an agglomeration development management system was elaborated.
