1 Embark in Charleston, SC Charleston is dripping with history! Walk the cobblestone streets with gas-lit lamps as you learn how Charleston was the star location for many Revolutionary War battles, pirate lore, and Civil War sieges.

2 Beaufort, SC What could be more southern than a horse-drawn carriage tour of Beaufort? The tour will take you past buildings that have been preserved from their beginnings as pre-Civil War shops and later used as field hospitals or offices during the Civil War. An optional tour would be the Low Country Heritage tour to St. Helena Island where you’ll learn about life on a Southern plantation. The host of this tour will be onboard the ship in the evening for a private concert. If you want to venture out on your own, Parris Island Museum is a great free museum with military artifacts focusing on the history of the US Marine Corps. Hunting Island State Park is 5000 acres of walking through beaches, forests and marches.

3 Hilton Head Island, SC Let’s see some Alligators! We’ll head into the Sea Pines Forest Preserve in search of wildlife… including the American Alligator! The 600-acre preserve is home to many indigenous animals and plants, which your guide will expertly talk you through. It’s also just a great day to have your camera out and record some beautiful southern landscapes! In the afternoon, you’ll be able to relax on board or head into town for some shopping!

4 Savannah, GA The epitome of Southern wealth and elegance, Savannah is a historic preserve of 19th century architecture and opulence! You can choose from many tour options, including the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, a Trolley Tour of the city, or a Guided Walking Tour through the River St. section. But if you’re really brave… you’ll try the evening ghost tour! Go with someone you trust, so you have a hand to hold.

5 Cruising Intracoastal Waterway Cruise this classic water way. It is known as the highway for north and southbound East Coast cruisers, and an east-west path along the outskirts of the Gulf of Mexico.

Take A Cruise On The Barefoot Princess Riverboat In Myrtle Beach

On our recent visit to Myrtle Beach, SC we had the pleasure to cruise on the beautiful Barefoot Princess Riverboat .      Riverboat cruises have a special place in my heart. The Barefoot Princess is the only riverboat cruise in the Myrtle Beach area which makes it even more special. My family and I truly had an unforgettable time that evening enjoying the beauty of the river, the food, the entertainment and each other’s company. My family and I even got to steer the boat!

About The Barefoot Princess Riverboat

The Barefoot Princess is 64 feet long and 24 feet wide. Not only is she a beautiful riverboat, she can hold 130 passengers, so she’s a good size. There are three floors on the ship so there is plenty of room to move around. They serve dinner on the main floor, a cash bar on the second with some dancing and music, and really amazing sight seeing on the open third floor.

Welcome Aboard

As you walk on the boat, you’ll see the boat is designed to be welcoming. We entered the boat through the lower level and we were welcomed by the dining room, which was set up beautifully. I think at that point, my stomach got a little excited by the dinner I knew was soon to follow.

Friendly Staff

When you first walk up to the Barefoot Princess Riverboat, you are greeted by very friendly staff. It was invigorating to see someone smiling at you and excited to see you. There is just something about a friendly warm smile that makes any experience that much better.

Bar and Drinks

There is also an exclusive bar and drink option on the boat. I did notice that they had a nice selection of mixed and bar drinks available. Plus, you can walk up there to get whatever you want and the bar tender is more than happy to accommodate you.

Music and Dancing

If you’re a huge fan of music and dancing, like I am, then you’ll love this part of the Barefoot Princess Riverboat Cruise. It’s such a fun part of the experience. The musician was welcoming in letting others join in on the fun. The music was REALLY a nice touch to experience on a 2 hour dinner cruise.

Enjoying a relaxing evening on a boat is one thing, but experiencing it on the Intercoastal Waterway is phenomenal. The trees along the bank of the river are beautiful. The water is sparkling and when we went, the weather was perfect. A really neat thing about the Barefoot Princess is that she runs, even if it’s raining. They are able to do this because the 1 st and 2 nd decks are enclosed and are even climate controlled.

The Barefoot Princess Riverboat has an amazing menu. Each cruise has either a lunch or dinner listed and it includes food and drinks. You’ll notice that there is also a snack bar for you to purchase various drinks and snacks from. Our particular dinner cruise which was a more casual cruise included hamburgers and hot dogs and all the fixings. It was so yummy we had to go back for seconds!

Watercraft Beer Tasting

Join us on one of our favorites, the Water Craft Beer tasting. Summertime and beer are like sand and flip flops. As beer lovers, we know a thing or two about Charleston’s vibrant and tasty craft beer scene. Cruising Charleston’s scenic rivers and creeks while sampling local IPAs, saisons, porters and other varieties is an idyllic way to spend a sultry afternoon in the Lowcountry.

An overnight cruises to one of Charleston’s sister seaports is the reason we started Sister City Cruises. Your overnight cruise includes a night’s stay in a luxurious waterfront inn or B&B and two sun-soaked fun-filled days cruising through an expansive wildlife refuge immersed in its prolific estuaries. Captains Dave & Shelley have been boating to these seaports for over 25 years.

This cruise is wildly romantic. An interesting tidbit about full moons is that they usher in higher and lower tides than normal. These tides are known as spring tides. Watching the sun set while the full moon rises simultaneously, at a high tide, is one heck of a sight and a memorable event.

Barrier Island

A popular activity among Charleston boaters is to spend the day on one of the many unspoiled barrier islands just off our coast. A boat is the only way to get to these uninhabited islands. You’ll get a bird’s-eye view of national treasures like two Civil War era forts; see Charleston’s most desired (and expensive) waterfront real estate; and idle through a creek filled with colorful shrimp boats, scrumptious eateries, and lots of dolphins and manatees!

Sunday (or Saturday) Brunch

Many people visit Charleston just for its celebrated cuisine. Kickoff your day in true mariner style by boating to a waterfront brunch spot (or enjoy a catered Lowcountry meal) while sipping mimosas in the salty air under the late-morning sunshine.

The Ashley River is the only Scenic River in the Lowcountry. Along her pluffmud banks lined with ginormous moss-draped centuries-old live oaks is a treasure trove of historically significant wonders. Three of which are 18th century plantations: Drayton Hall, Magnolia Plantation and Middleton Place. This three-mile stretch of the Ashley is known locally as plantation row. From the water you’ll be wowed by the views of these decedent mansions.

I get goose bumps when I write about the ACE Basin, one of the largest natural areas on the Atlantic, and the confluence of the Ashepoo, Combahee, and Edisto River Basins. This package is for those seeking a unique adventure in a very remote area of the Lowcountry. Cruise through the heart of the picturesque ACE Basin as we venture in to uncharted creeks where you’ll be immersed in beauty, surrounded by dolphins and endangered wildlife like the peregrine falcon, black skimmer and American oystercatcher. This area is so remote that it’s very likely you won’t see another boat for miles.

This cruise pairs nicely with an overnight respite in the lovely seaport of Beaufort, South Carolina. A cruise through the St. Helena Sound, a vast body of water that looks and feels like the wide-open ocean, is an experience in itself.

Overnight cruises are on the MaryTime; pricing is per couple, parties of 6 or less. We require a 50% deposit upon booking, balance due 24 hours prior to departure date. All major credit cards accepted. No personal checks. The advance deposit will be refunded in the event of severe weather or by cancelling 48 hours prior to the scheduled charter (less the cost of any incidentals). CLEVELAND – Dawn Staley and South Carolina completed their perfect season, ending Caitlin Clark’s historic college career with an 87-75 win over Iowa in the NCAA championship game Sunday.

With Staley directing a relentless attack from the sideline, the Gamecocks (38-0) became the 10th Division I team to go through a season without a loss. And they accomplished the feat after they lost all five starters from last season’s team that lost to Clark’s squad in the national semifinals.

“It doesn’t always end like you want it to end, much like last year. But my freshies are at the top of my heart because they wanted this. It’s awesome. .... It’s awesome. It’s awesome. It’s unbelievable,” Staley said. "When young people lock in and have a belief, and have a trust, and their parents have that same trust, this is what can happen. They made history. They etched their names in the history books.”

Clark did all she could to lead the Hawkeyes to their first championship. She scored 30 points, including a championship-record 18 in the first quarter. She will go down as one of the greatest players in NCAA history. She rewrote the record book at Iowa (34-5), finishing as the career leading scorer in NCAA Division I history with 3,951 career points.

She hopes her legacy isn’t defined by falling short in two NCAA championship games, but more by the millions of new fans she helped bring into the game and the countless young girls and boys that she inspired.

"I think the biggest thing is it’s really hard to win these things, I think I know that better than most people by now, to be so close twice really hurts,” Clark said.

As the final buzzer sounded, a stoic Clark walked off the court, through the confetti, and into the tunnel heading to the locker room.

“I personally want to thank Caitlin Clark for lifting up our sport. She carried a heavy load for our sport,” Staley said. “She’s going to lift that league (WNBA) up as well. Caitlin Clark if you’re out there you’re one of the GOATs of our game. We appreciate you.”

South Carolina has won three titles in the last eight years, including two of the past three, to lay claim to being the latest dynasty in women’s basketball. Staley became the fifth coach to win at least three national championships, joining Geno Auriemma, Pat Summitt, Kim Mulkey and Tara VanDerveer.

The Gamecocks, who have won 109 of their last 112 games, became the first team since UConn in 2016 to go undefeated. South Carolina had a couple scares throughout the season, but always found a way to win.

With most of the team returning next year — except for star center Kamilla Cardoso — Staley’s team is in a good position to keep this run going.

Tessa Johnson led South Carolina with 19 points. Cardoso, the NCAA tourney's Most Outstanding Player, had 15 points and 17 rebounds.

“Kamilla Cardoso was not going to let us lose a game in the NCAA Tournament,” Staley said. “She played through an injury, she played like one of the top picks in the WNBA draft, and her teammates did something that no teammates have done for somebody who went to the WNBA in our program. They send her off as a national champion. So this is history for us.”

Led by the 6-foot-7 Cardoso and Ashlyn Watkins, South Carolina enjoyed a 51-29 rebounding advantage. It also finished with 30 second-chance points.

The Gamecocks also showed off their impressive depth. Johnson helped the team to a 37-0 difference in points by reserves.

South Carolina trailed 46-44 late in the second quarter before going on an 11-0 run spanning halftime to open a 55-46 advantage early in the third quarter. Clark finally ended the run with a layup.

The Hawkeyes closed to 59-55 and had a chance to get even closer, but Hannah Stuelke missed a wide-open layup on a brilliant pass from Clark.

South Carolina responded with the next eight points, including two 3-pointers. The Gamecocks, who were 4 for 20 from behind the 3-point line during last season's Final Four loss to Iowa, went 8 for 19 from deep against the Hawkeyes this time around.

The Gamecocks were up 68-59 after the third. They led 76-64 early in the fourth before back-to-back 3s by Clark and Gabbie Marshall got Iowa within six.

Iowa was down 80-75 after a three-point play by Sydney Affolter with 4:12 left. That would be the last point the Hawkeyes would score as South Carolina got the last seven of the game.

Clark checked out with 20 seconds left when Iowa coach Lisa Bluder subbed in fellow senior Molly Davis, who hadn't played since she got hurt in the regular-season finale against Ohio State.

Unlike the semifinals, when Clark struggled against UConn’s defense, she got going early against South Carolina. Clark scored 13 straight points for Iowa after the Hawkeyes jumped out to a 7-0 lead, including another logo 3-pointer, to help her school to a 20-9 advantage by the first media timeout.

South Carolina cut it to 22-20 with 1:30 left in the period before Clark scored the final five points, including a 3-pointer over Cardoso. Clark’s 18 points in the opening quarter set a championship game record , surpassing the 16 that Jasmine Carson of LSU had last year against the Hawkeyes.

She only had three points in the second quarter, hitting a 3-pointer with 1:53 left in the period. Meanwhile the Gamecocks used their depth and inside dominance to get back in the game. Cardoso had 11 points and seven rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.

The Gamecocks trailed 46-44 in the final minute when Te-Hina PaoPao hit a 3-pointer and Raven Johnson stole the ball from Clark near midcourt and went in for a layup. South Carolina led 49-46 at the half.

South Carolina’s Dawn Staley is the AP Coach of the Year for the 2nd time

Dawn Staley did a masterful job guiding a young South Carolina team back to the Final Four with an undefeated record for the second straight season.

Staley was honored Thursday as The Associated Press women’s college basketball Coach of the Year for the second time. She received 27 votes from the 35-member national media panel that votes on the AP Top 25 each week. She also won the award in 2020.

Staley joins an elite group of coaches that include Geno Auriemma (9), Muffet McGraw (4), Kim Mulkey (3) and Brenda Frese (2) who have won the AP award multiple times since it was first given in 1995.

Lindsay Gottlieb of Southern California, Felisha Legette-Jack of Syracuse and Scott Rueck of Oregon State tied for second with two votes each. Voting was done before the NCAA Tournament.

South Carolina faces North Carolina State on Friday night in a national semifinal and is the overwhelming favorite to win its second title in three years and third overall, all since 2017. The Gamecocks are two wins away from completing the 10th undefeated season in NCAA Division I history.

Staley has rebuilt the program into a power since she arrived in 2008 and last year’s team was expected to add another championship until Iowa knocked off the Gamecocks in the Final Four. This season, Staley had to replace her entire starting lineup and still guided them back to the semifinals for a fourth consecutive year.

She’s built a fanbase that has led the nation in attendance the past 10 years and in 2021 the school announced a new, seven-year contract that will pay her $2.9 million this season and grow to $3.5 million in the final season of 2027-28. She said then the $22.4 million deal should make an impact and perhaps lead to equity in the men’s and women’s games.

Along the way, Staley has become a voice of leadership and direction in the women’s game. The former point guard is already the first Black coach to win two NCAA titles — success that has given Staley the platform to champion issues off the court. She continues to speak out about gender equity, diversity and opportunities for women.

Staley has also been an outspoken supporter of her players and athletes in general. A year ago, she was asked about her team when others had suggested her players were bullies.

“That’s a good question,” she replied. “We’re not bar fighters. We’re not thugs. We’re not monkeys. We’re not street fighters.”

“If you really knew them, if you really knew them, like you really want to know other players that represent this game, you would think differently,” she added. “So don’t judge us by the color of our skin. Judge us by how we approach the game.”
