Your guide to travel and experience Florence, Italy

Best rooftop bars in Florence. Aperitivo with a view!

Florence seen from above is breathtaking, with its red roofs and the hills that embrace the city. And what could be better to enjoy the view than doing it while sipping a glass of wine? In this post I have collected the best rooftop bars in Florence , where you can enjoy a cocktail and maybe eat something.

A bar with a panoramic view is the perfect place to try the all-Italian aperitivo experience , i.e. a drink accompanied by some snacks, before dinner.

  • I am regularly updating this post with new addresses and recommendations!

Best rooftop bars in Florence, Italy

A few clarifications before starting:

Most of the rooftop bars in Florence are located inside luxury hotels , but they are also open to those who don’t spend the night in the hotel.

All the bars that I recommend are located in the historic center or very close to it.

I recommend you to always book in advance, especially in the summer when Florence is very crowded.

The Grand Hotel Baglioni has been one of the most famous in Florence for over 100 years . And its rooftop bar, the B-Roof, is just as famous and of high quality. The view includes a close-up view of the dome of the Cathedral and the dome of the church of San Lorenzo, in an elegant and peaceful setting. There is an indoor room with large windows, and an outdoor space with a roof garden (open in summer, from June to September).

Chef Richard Leimer’s menu features contemporary dishes with local ingredients.

Empireo Rooftop View American Bar & Pool

The rooftop bar of the Plaza Hotel Lucchesi has a 360 degree view, which includes almost every famous monument of Florence. The show is particularly beautiful at night, when the lights of the city reflect on the waters of the Arno River. There is a swimming pool (reserved for hotel guests), and events, special evenings and DJ sets are often held. The cocktail recipes are inspired by music, and each drink comes with a Spotify playlist . The food menu is entrusted to the young and renowned chef Daniele Lambruschi. Empireo is only open during summer.

La Terrazza Rooftop Bar

La Terrazza is the bar of the Hotel Continentale , and is considered one of the most beautiful terraces in the world. Divina Terrazza

Divina Terrazza is the bar on the seventh floor of the Grand Hotel Cavour , and what makes it special is the close-up view of Brunelleschi’s dome and the Duomo of Florence . I mean, it’s really close! Another extra bonus is the fact that it is open all year round and not just in the summer (there are heat lamps in the winter).

  • Address: via del Proconsolo 3

View on Art

The location of this bar is very central, practically in front of the Cathedral, which is really close! To find it you need to know the address because it is almost impossible to understand from the outside that there is a bar on the top floor in that building. The terrace is small, but the view is magnificent and the cocktails are very good. The restaurant offers international cuisine and yummy burgers. You can only book for lunch and dinner, not for an aperitivo (in this case the first come, first served rule applies).

5 Rooftop Bars in Florence That Locals Love

These rooftop bars in Florence offer first-class tickets for the best views in town—and no, we didn’t forget the wine.

When in Florence, you’ll notice that Brunelleschi’s famous dome seems to follow you everywhere—a constant reminder that yes , this is the cradle of the Renaissance.  So, after a long day pounding the pavement, get on top—of a hill, a building, a church, you choose—and enjoy a new perspective of Florence’s most famous landmark. The golden light slowly vanishing from the dome is a memory to cherish.

Our tip? Do it while enjoying a drink or two at one of the many rooftop bars in Florence. Here are five of our favorites to get you started.

B-Roof – Baglioni Hotel

B-Roof ‘s stunning location atop the Baglioni Hotel offers unparalleled views of Brunelleschi’s dome. On offer is a great variety of drinks, and you can be sure that their talented and knowledgeable bartenders will recommend something delicious. But if you’re feeling indecisive, this is a picture-perfect spot to sip a tried-and-true Florentine cocktail: the Negroni .

B-Roof also has a fantastic restaurant serving up elevated Tuscan regional cuisine . Make the experience extra special by sitting down to an unforgettable meal surrounded by views straight off a postcard!

SE·STO on Arno – Excelsior Hotel

From lunch to dinner, SE·STO on Arno will provide you with exquisite food made from high-quality ingredients perfected by a Florentine chef. But don’t worry if you’re too full from all the schiacciate you already ate to appreciate it: the reserve of wine is seemingly endless and carefully selected.

Empireo – Lucchesi Hotel

The pool, the drinks, the music: Empireo has all the ingredients you’re looking for in the perfect rooftop bar in Florence. This alchemy will make you forget the busy day you just spent sightseeing among the crowds.

Drink in the views of the Arno River and Ponte Vecchio, and remember to breathe (it really will take your breath away!). The only drawback: this magical spot is only available during summer.

Caffè del Verone

The terrace atop Museo degli Innocenti has been recently restored to host Caffè del Verone . Once the space where women who worked at the onetime orphanage used to hang the laundry, it’s now a sophisticated bar.

You can access it even without the museum ticket, though a trip to the museum itself is definitely worth it. Just be sure to get up to the roof in time for aperitivo around 6 p.m.

Caffetteria delle Oblate

You can meet almost anyone at Caffetteria delle Oblate. F rom busy students to chatty elders, every Florentine likes to meet here with friends.

The bar hides atop of a public library in what once was a cloister. Stop by for a cup of coffee, stay for a gorgeous view of the Duomo and an aperitivo spread , and watch the real city life flowing from this beautiful spot.

Guide to the Best Places to Drink in Florence

There are not many things more relaxing than grabbing a drink after a day of sightseeing on vacation and Florence is no exception. When we think “Italy” we think “Vino” but that is not always the case. Cocktail and beer culture in Italy has run ramped in the couple decades and as we all know that Italians make things better.

This guide goes over the best places to drink in Florence. We’ve categorized that by Breweries, Enoteche, and Cocktail bars. Enjoy!

Best Breweries in Florence

Archea brewery.

This Florentine brewery counts 16 different kinds of artisanal beer. Four of these are permanent while the remaining twelve are constantly changing. All the staff is working to look for new and innovative tastes and flavors in order to satisfy any visitor.

Articolo 17

If you are willing to discover some Italian artisanal beer, Articolo 17 is the place to be. A wide selection of beer from all over the country is always available. Among those, some from an artisanal brewery located in Siena and another one in Milan are the beers that you can’t miss. Articolo 17 is really close to the Sant’Ambrogio market, a very good location for some good beers.

Joshua Tree Pub

This place is one of the oldest Florentine breweries. Here, you can taste some good schiacciata and enjoy some live music. What’s better after a long day spent walking?

Best Enoteche in Florence

What is an enoteca? In Italy, an enoteca refers to a wine bar or tavern.

Spirit Brands

Of course, there is one thing that you can’t miss in Florence: some good wine! Here at Spirit Brands, the selection is wonderful and you can taste wines from all over Tuscany and Piemonte but even from France. The place boasts a special room where they organize weekly wine tasting.

Le Volpi e L’uva

This place, located right next to the Ponte Vecchio, is the enoteca not to miss. Born from a bet, Le Volpi e l’uva boasts almost 25 years of activity. The staff is always ready to welcome you and propose the best wine selection that you can taste while eating some French cheese. If you want, the enoteca has also created its own wine from grapes in Tuscany. Are you thirsty yet?

Pitti Gola and Cantina

Right in front of Palazzo Vecchio stands the Pitti Gola & Cantina. This place is the refuge for people looking for a calm, but warm environment. Here you can find a very good wine selection and some plates prepared by the chef with local and seasonal products. If you are a regular client, you can also ask to have a wine selection sent to your place. Why not then?

La Divina Enoteca

Very close to the Mercato Centrale, this place a great Italian aperitivo spot. The owners are constantly looking for some new wines, both from Italy or abroad. All of these wines can be tasted with some Italian cheese and ham, carefully selected to complement the wine that you have chosen.

Best Cocktail Bars in Florence

Located in Piazza Santo Spirito, this cocktail bar might be a bit hidden, but once inside everything will be worth the looking. Decorated with a ’20s theme, Rasputin offers unique cocktails prepared by experienced bartenders. This is one of the best speakeasy bars in Florence.

This cocktail bar is known for its great location. Locale, in fact, is located inside Palazzo delle Seggiole, one of Florence’s most opulent palaces from the Renaissance period. Once there, you will be able to enjoy deliciously crafted cocktails.

Aside from the style of the bar, the cocktails’ ingredients make for incredible drinks. Every ingredient has been under the lens of the experts in order to find the best combination for the most incredible result. Come here to enjoy some good jazz music and a deliciously unique cocktail.

Loggia roof bar at hotel palazzo guadagni, what's it like:.

This is a swanky and comfortable rooftop bar that allows you to watch the Palazzo Vecchio below and enjoy delicious drinks at any time of the day. The evening is the best time to head to the Loggia Roof Bar as the lights will be coming on over the city, and the traffic in the streets below will be calming down. The soft lighting, quiet music, and excellent service offered here at this stylish indoor lounge make this one of the best rooftop bars in Florence. Sit on comfortable couches and sip your drink or wander over to the balcony and look out at the Florence skyline. Make sure that you call ahead and book a table, as this is a rooftop bar that is very popular in the city.

Our Recommendation:

Make sure to keep a Chianti wine on your radar to try here, but you can also get mixed drinks that are made with creativity and verve. Ask your server at the hotel Palazzo Guadagni for suggestions if you want to try something adventurous. The food is appetizer-style, so you can order small plates to share of various kinds of cold cuts, pasta, and even desserts. This is a location that fosters a shared dining experience that is really enjoyable.

Piazza Santo Spirito 9, Florence

Divina Terrazza at Grand Hotel Cavour

This lush hotel is right in the center of the city, and you will find that the Divina Terrazza rooftop bar is one of the best rooftop bars in the city. Check out views of the Palazzo Vecchio from here and also Brunelleschi’s Duomo. This is a truly outdoor bar, and you will love the open-air and panoramic bar feel that is possible here. This bar also offers two moods to those who visit it, with a more mellow and peaceful vibe before the aperitivo hour and a boisterous and music-heavy experience as the evening progresses. This is a vibe that s more like an American rooftop bar, and expats and travelers love this part of the ambiance of the Divina Terrazza location.

Make sure to try the bellinis or the rosso vino options. You can also get all kinds of appetizers here to share as you enjoy the views. The menu also switches from aperitivo to digestifs over the course of the evening, which is a lot of fun if you are visiting Florence and want to have the full dining out experience.

Grand Hotel Cavour , Via del Proconsolo, 3, 50122, Florence

Best rooftop bars in Florence, Italy

Three Sixty at the Grand Hotel Minerva

This is a really unique rooftop bar to sit down for a drink. Three Sixty has an amazing view, a rooftop pool, and a rooftop dining room. There is a 360-degree view from this rooftop bar, and you can even see the entire skyline from the rooftop pool. The pool is only for hotel guests, but you will still love how the pool contributes to the panoramic views and the overall feel of this centrally located bar.

Make sure to try one of the various Proceso options on the menu, and you can get a delightful Chianti here too. This location is ideal since it is close to many historic things to do and see in the city. You can easily end your day of touring the best museums in Florence here with a filling meal at this rooftop terrace.

Grand Hotel Minerva, Piazza di Santa Maria Novella, 16, 50123, Florence

La Terrazza Rooftop Bar at the Hotel Continentale

For panoramic views of the Arno rooftop and the Ponte Vecchio Bridge, the Hotel Continentale is the right place to sit down for a drink and a snack. This is a modern and very stylish bar that offers you a wide array of wines and cocktails to choose from as well as snacks. The long sofa is situated right against the balcony, which is a great place to sit on this rooftop terrace and soak up the sunset as you sip your drink.

The bubbly on this menu at the Hotel Continentale is superior to the selection at many other places in the city, and they also offer creative cocktails that you will not find elsewhere. This is one of the best rooftop bars in Florence, and you will love the romantic atmosphere here. Best of all, there is no segmented area here for hotel guests only, so you will get the full experience of the bar at the Hotel Continentale and its views.

Vicolo dell'Oro, 6r, 50123, Florence

Rooftop bars in Florence with the best view

Grand Hotel Baglioni

This location has two sections that you can choose from. You can opt to eat a long and leisurely lunch on the terrace surrounded by plants and the view, and the B-Roof location is a local favorite. This is a great place to enjoy a full meal, but you will not get the entire benefit of the view at this hotel location. If you want to sip a cocktail and look at the city skyline, head to the American Rooftop Bar, where you can enjoy live music as you drink and eat.

The rooftop bar here offers a great aperitivo with free live music, and you will want to make sure to look through the wine list that offers many central Florence favorites. You should also try the pici cacio e pepe with tarragon cream and the pisco sours. This is a really wonderful stop for your evening aperitivo if you want to be able to pick from a wide array of menu options or if you want to have a late lunch at the B-Roof level.

Hotel Baglioni, Piazza dell'Unità Italiana, 6, Florence

Panoramic Bar at Hotel degli Orafi

The Panoramic Bar is an indoor/outdoor seating area at the top of the Hotel Degli Orafi, which offers you views of the center of the city and comfortable seating that you will love. There is full meal service here, or you can elect to sip some wine and just snack when you visit. The atmosphere is sophisticated yet welcoming, and you will love the entire experience on the top floor of this local historical building.

Make sure to check out the current local wine list. It is often full of amazing choices that are sourced from the vineyards around the city. You can also choose to get small plates to share, or you might want to actually eat a late lunch that bleeds over into the aperitivo hour and beyond. There is nothing that you won't enjoy on the menu here, and you will want to spend as long as possible sitting in this lovely location and soaking up Florence.

Lungarno degli Archibusieri, 4, Florence

Rooftop cocktails in Florence

Art Rooftop at Hotel Medici

Located right by the Duomo, this hotel has a smaller and more cozy rooftop bar location that is a great place for cocktails, live music, and snacks. This is a common meet-up for younger people in the city, and you will love the view here as well as the wide array of wines and cocktails that are on offer. Ask your server for suggestions if you are unsure about what you want to try.

This bar offers some interesting meal options like Italian tacos, and you can get all the usual cheese and meat plates that you will find on the menus of these kinds of bars throughout the city. Make sure to check out the creative cocktails, as they can be a lot of fun, or you might want to ask about the most recently added local wines. There is nothing not to love on the menu here, and the food offerings are variable depending on the season and fresh local ingredients.

Via dei Medici, 6, 50123, Florence

Angel Roofbar at Hotel Calimala

This location was inspired by the design plans of Alex Meitlis, who has created some of the most amazing contemporary restaurant locations in London. This hotel offers the same swanky and memorable atmosphere as these places, and you will love the terrazzo floors and distressed brick here. This is a great place for a full meal that you can enjoy as the sun sets and the menu is refreshed all the time. The chefs here are specifically trained in various international cooking traditions, so everything that you order is authentic and incredibly delicious.

The menu here is most Southern Mediterranean, but you can also ask your server for recommendations if you are not sure what might be best to try out. The best way to enjoy the menu here is to come to sit down at aperitivo time and then stick around for a full meal. You will be able to try both halves of the menu if you do this, which can allow you to make the most of the fresh menu that is created with such inspiration. The wine list is extensive as well.

Via Calimala, 2, 50123, Florence

15 Best Bars in Florence

By Coral Sisk

Italy Florence Bars Enoteca Pitti Gola e Cantina

Florence is one of the most exciting cities in the world for drinkers: In addition to the historic cafes mixing Negronis (the drink was born here in 1919), you'll find sommelier-tended wine bars, Italian craft beer pubs, and distinguished bartenders taking drinks to new dimensions in intimate, speakeasy-style outposts. Read on for a list of the best places to get your tipple of choice; our picks of Florence's best bars.

Italy Florence Restaurant Locale Firenze

Locale Firenze Arrow

Renaissance pillars and vertical gardens create quite the first impression at Locale Firenze. If you're lucky to snag a front-row seat to the molecular mixology, you'll notice an array of tools poised at the ready for the bartenders—dressed in vests and ties—to use, including mini-greenhouses that store micro garnishes, eccentric glassware, dry ice, and foamed ingredients. This is where imagination runs wild. Classics are respected, yet delivered with avant-garde flair.

Italy Florence Bar Vineria Suonora

Vineria Sonora Arrow

Vineria Sonora has a humble, cafe-like setting, with walls plastered with vinyl records and rows of wine bottles with artsy labels. The youngish crowd of students and neighbors are here to absorb the refreshing atmosphere, which stands in contrast to many of the other crowded, expensive, and old-fashioned wine bars around Florence. This is a great place to sip on fairly priced natural wines and craft beers. If you're looking for something to line your stomach, order one of the warm toasts, which are made from whole-grain rustic bread and hyper-regional specialties like Calabrian 'nduja and suino nero (black pig) heritage salami.

Italy Florence Bar Mad Souls Spirits

Mad Souls & Spirits Arrow

A quintessential dive bar, San Frediano's Mad Souls and Spirits puts zero effort into its looks and lighting—but that's good news for the fun and approachable craft cocktails, which are free from pretentious mumbo-jumbo. Menus are themed, and change frequently; a recent Ryanair one, for instance, featured concoctions like Flight Insurance (rum with green tea, cinnamon, and lime) and Hand Luggage (gin with lemon and maraschino). It's all in good faith: the head bartenders here hope to encourage young Florentines to swap watered-down spritzes and poorly mixed Negronis for creative, reasonably priced drinks.

Default

Manifattura Tabacchi Arrow

Manifattura Tabacchi feels like a glam bar in a chemistry lab, complete with Italian music from the '50s. A made-in-Italy theme emphasizes Italian-made spirits and liqueurs, classic drinks like Negronis and bellinis, and riffs on cocktails like the Sazerac. All drinks are served with olives and toasted chickpeas, and you can also order curated plates of old-school dishes— vitello tonnato , Tuscan ricotta, and spinach dumplings with pecorino fonduta .

How to Pack Light When You're Only Traveling With a Carry-On

Karthika Gupta

Rasputin Florence

Rasputin Arrow

Rasputin is an underground homage to speakeasy culture with the vintage couture to match. But it's a secret bar—Florence's first—not to be confused with a speakeasy; after all, Italy never had Prohibition. For months, the only way to get in was to have an in; but those lucky souls who make it inside the dimly lit space are in for classic cocktails made with thoughtful twists. There's no food and there aren't that many tables—thus not too much room for staff—but everyone is amicable and cheerful.

Italy Florence Bar Diorama

Diorama Arrow

Diorama is a tiny, unassuming dive that's like an Italian-craft-beer wonderland—with just the right amount of personality and grit. The staggering selection offers something for everyone, from cans and drafts to double wild fermented bottled brews. Pair it with traditional Tuscan fare like ribollita stew, tripe plates, and meat and cheese boards, which are all served family style. It's as if a Florentine trattoria and a pub had a love child.

Sabor Cubano Arrow

With a name that means "Cuban flavor," the Mercato Centrale-based Sabor Cubano is a closet of a cocktail lounge that charms with vintage decor and furniture and eclectic world music. This is a very niche bar that excels in impeccably made Caribbean cocktails. Drinks, which revolve around select rums, and tequilas, feature freshly squeezed citrus, hard-to-find raw whole ingredients such as tamarind, papaya, and lime, specialty salt rims, and fresh mint. For long-timers in Florence craving a break from vermouth-based Italian cocktails or bland versions of international drinks, this bar does the trick.

Italy Florence Bars Enoteca Pitti Gola e Cantina

Enoteca Pitti Gola e Cantina Arrow

Located directly opposite the vast, grandiose 15th-century Pitti Palace, Pitti Gola e Cantina, a small enoteca, or wine bar, has a loyal local following. Inside, a marble-topped bar counter takes center stage in a room where wall-to-wall shelves are stacked high with wine. Three Enomatic machines (for preserving fine wines once they are opened) behind the bar hint at the serious credentials of the wine list, which include bottles dating from the 1960s and ‘70s—and even the ‘50s—which you won't find in any other Florentine bar. There are only six tables inside and most are for just two, so it’s best for an intimate evening.

Italy Florence Bar Love Craft

Love Craft Arrow

At first glance, Love Craft seems like a rock 'n' roll dive bar where shot-drinkers peppered with tattoos are wholly welcomed. This place, close to the Ponte alla Carraia, is great for locals trying to break their usual drink routines, impress a new admirer, or kick back in a great Florentine setting. Behind the bar is an altar of whiskeys from around the world. Sip on classic whiskey- and scotch-based craft cocktails, a couple craft beers on tap, and flights organized by theme and provenance. Just don't look for a food menu—you won't turn up anything.

Italy Florence Bar Bitter Bar

Bitter Bar Arrow

In Florence, the speakeasy-vintage vibe is a strong theme for craft cocktail bars—that's the case at Bitter Bar, too. What sets it apart is that every drink is a proprietary invention from the owner. Although its name might suggest a focus on, say, amaro, Bitter Bar showcases all manner of cocktails, some sweet from pineapple juice and others topped with cheesecake foam. And while you can ask for a martini, Sazerac, or Negroni and it would be made decently, you'd do much better putting yourself in owner (and bartender) Cristiano Guitti's capable hands. He's ardently creative and obsessively detail-oriented; as such, he's gained a reputation among cocktail aficionados worldwide.

Italy Florence Bar Pint of View

Pint of View Arrow

Pint of View, a casual gastropub in Oltrarno, has a good selection of Italian craft beers, including local IPAs, smoked stouts, and fruit-mashed rye saisons. Fascinating cocktails include a riff on a gin fizz (with matcha syrup) and a Sichuan pepper–infused sake concoction that's served with an oyster. There's a full menu of Asian-inspired dishes, including kimchi dumplings, Seoul-style fried chicken, ramen, and fried-squid bao in a squid-ink stained bun, among other umami-rich delights.

Rex Cafè Arrow

At Rex, a nautical theme meets trippy disco-ball decor and plush vintage furniture. Open since 1990, the funky, artsy lounge is a defining piece of Florentine nightlife and a favorite among locals. Rex has long had a reputation as a loud, crowded nightclub—the whole place turns into a giant DJ-fueled dance party after 10 p.m.—but recent efforts by Mose Giordani, one of the leading cocktail geniuses in Florence, has turned it into a destination for respectable drinks and bar bites. You'll find well-executed classics, as well as some innovative house creations.

Image may contain Drink Wine Alcohol Beverage Bottle Wine Bottle Dryer Appliance Hair Drier and Blow Dryer

Procacci Arrow

Located among the designer stores of chic Via Tornabuoni, Procacci has been a classic Florentine watering hole since 1885—just the sort of place where ladies who shop would stop off for a glass of something cool and a tiny bite of lunch between sprints. Now owned by the Antinori wine-growing family, it has retained an elegant, old-fashioned air in spite of a recent revamp; the room has a mahogany, marble-topped bar counter, wood shelves stacked with bottles, a terrazzo marble floor, and tall tables with high stools. When you come here, there are a few classics worth ordering: the Antinori house prosecco, the Franciacorta fizz, wine, or tomato juice, and to soak it all up, a few of the tiny, delicate sandwiches—particularly the ones made with truffle cream.

Italy Florence Bar Le Volpi e L'Uva

Le Volpi e l’Uva Arrow

At Le Volpi e L'Uva, a small, modern wine bar hidden away in a tiny piazzetta a few meters from the Ponte Vecchio, the owners specialize in winkling out small and lesser-known wine producers from all over Italy. So unless you're a connoisseur, the chances are that you won’t recognize many of the constantly changing wines. There are some 35 varieties offered by the glass at any one time; prices start at €4.50 (about $5) for a glass of aromatic white Kerner 2017 from Alto Adige or €5 (about $6) for a Chianti Classico Poggerino 2015 and rise to €9 (about $10) for a hefty Barolo Monforte d’Alba 2013 from Cascina Fontana. Bottles are better value, and there's a little more choice. You can also book a guided tasting or wine lesson with one of the expert sommeliers.

Italy Florence Restaurant Il Santino

Il Santino Arrow

Housed in a former wine cellar, Il Santino is a tiny, cozy wine bar and deli serving up fine wines and top-notch snacks. Wines by the glass (six reds and six whites at any one time) come with a snack included in the price; a crostino topped with pecorino or creamy brandade di baccalà (salt cod), maybe. The list of wines available by the bottle runs to around 200 labels, many from Tuscany; the selection favors smaller, under-the-radar producers and avoids overpriced and overexposed labels. There are also 15 or so craft beers from Tuscany. Because of its size, Il Santino isn't necessarily a place to dig in for the evening; but it does make a great pit stop after exploring the Boho-chic Santo Spirito neighborhood with a friend or two.

Cristian Guitti, one of Florence's most respected bartenders, opened this Sant'Ambrogio district bar in early 2017 with vintage 1920s decor and an elaborate menu premised on experimentation and fantasy. The menu is divided into twists on classics, like an aged Negroni, and Guitti's own inventions. You'll find colorfully presented cocktails with unusual culinary accoutrements, such as mint bitters, torched extractions, celery juice, chile jam, and truffle honey, plus punch bowls to share.

Manifattura

Fabiano Buffolino, the bartender behind this brand-new ’50s-style cocktail lounge, has years of experience in the industry and a passion for reviving Italian traditions. Everything on the menu is made in Italy: aperitivi , vermouth, bitters, and more than 80 labels of amaro, from national classics to small-batch varieties. You'll find nearly forgotten Italian sodas, vintage liqueurs, and classic prosecco-based cocktails from Bellini to Puccini. It’s an obligatory stop for those who want to understand the true legacy of Italian cocktails. The best part: So far, every drink is under 10 euros.

Locale is located in a restored palace that once belonged to Florence’s most prominent families (the Concinis first and, later, the Medicis). The atmosphere has a distinct Milan or New York feel, with a time-travel clash of Medici-era frescoes, 12th-century kitchen and laundry-room relics, and a wine cellar with stone arches believed to have ancient Roman roots. At the bar, find a dizzying array of spirits, bitters, and infusions that spike craft cocktails and elaborately presented punch bowls. Come for the full experience: a resident DJ spins music, cocktails are accompanied by chef-prepared appetizers on hand-carved olive-wood platters, and “welcome punch” greets anyone who walks through the door.

Mayday Club

Open since 2001, Mayday could be considered Florence's true mixology den for the respect it pays to the city’s historic pharmacies and apothecaries. A mix of moody theater lighting, risque velvet paintings, and vintage radio technology relics make for a Dali-esque space where bartenders create inventive cocktails with house-made infusions, liqueurs, and all-natural juices from local organic fruit producers. Chemistry and botany enthusiasts, this place is for you.

Mad Souls & Spirits

In the Oltrarno district, owner Neri Fantechi has successfully designed a cocktail pub with a creative menu; Florence Cocktail Week award-winning barmen; and a no-frills, all-inclusive vibe. Here, ordering an Aperol spritz is considered sacrilegious. Instead, choose from among tongue-in-cheek daily and weekly specials, such as the Donald Sour (carrot jam, bourbon, and egg white), and a menu divided into three parts: “a fistful of dollars,” “soul warmers,” and “fabulous spirits.” The bar also hosts periodic mixology and spirit-specific master classes and events, and it boasts a tempting selection of mezcal and Russian rye vodkas, thanks to cocktail maestro Julian Biondi’s role as Italian ambassador for Polugar.

Fusion Bar & Restaurant

Given its status as a boutique hotel bar (it’s located in the Gallery Art Hotel), you can safely expect phenomenal service and quality at Fusion. The restaurant specializes in Nikkei cuisine (Peruvian-Japanese fusion), supervised by Michelin-starred chef Peter Brunel, and is one of the few places in town to break from heavy Tuscan fare. The award-winning barmen here are Michel Orlando and Robert Pavel, who have developed an eclectic cocktail menu but are equally capable of re-interpreting your drink of choice into something dreamy. Curious house-made details include sesame-infused vodka, a barrel-aged Negroni fused with Alchermes, and Calabrian chile-infused mezcal and tequila blends.

Ditta Artigianale

Not purely a cocktail bar, Ditta is a modern interpretation of the traditional Italian bar that sells espresso, breakfast pastries, and aperitivo alongside bus tickets, tobacco, and stamps. Specialty roasted coffee, international baked goods, brunch, and craft cocktails are all on the menu here. Industry legend Kareem Bennet translates owner Francesco Sanapo's obsession with gin, artisanal liqueurs, and house-made syrups into quality drinks. The insider tip here is to take a seat at the bar and have Bennet whip up something you didn't know you loved.

bar tour in florence

This is Florence's first secret bar. The address, underground somewhere in Santo Spirito, can be discovered by either following hints given over the phone or through word of mouth. The bar was envisioned as a space in which Russian mystic Grigori Rasputin would have liked to dwell. Vintage Italian decor dominates, and the menu is decidedly reminiscent of the 1940s, but with a section of new, proprietary inventions. Present are the Hanky Panky, Brandy Crusta, Lucien Gaudin, and other obscure classics.

This is the crème de la crème of luxury hotel bar experiences. Perched practically around the corner from Piazzale Michelangelo and in the midst of lush Tuscan cypress trees and sweeping skylines, Villa Cora offers a quality craft drink program. Paolo Ponzo, a Swiss-born Sicilian, is the man behind the poolside bar, which, in warmer months, is an exceptional choice for DJ sets, drinks, snacks, and pizza and Champagne nights. Ponzo takes a decidedly Italian approach to cocktails with a few wildcards, including Varnelli and rum daiquiris and fernet-and-scotch-based creations.

Where to drink in Florence

From happy hour drinks, traditional Italian aperitivo or late-night cocktails. Here are some of the best bars and the latest venues in the rapidly expanding Florence bar and cocktail scene.

Locale Firenze

Via Delle Seggiole, 12 localefirenze.it

Locale Firenze cocktail bar

Locale Firenze is one of the most beautiful and unique places to drink in Florence. Housed in an old palace dating back to the 1200’s (the Concini Palace to be more precise) you can actually drink and dine in a 13 th century palace.

But the main draw are the cocktails created to perfection by Matteo Di Ienno and his brilliant bar team. Cocktail is art at Locale Firenze – drinks that are classic in style with sometimes eclectic garnishes and glassware, and ingredients coming straight out of their garden and laboratory.

Locale is a full restaurant offering some creative canapes served in a special way during aperitivo time. This stylish venue draws an equally sophisticated crowd every night of the week. Locale Firenze is not only an extraordinary bar with fantastic cocktails, but a unique drinking experience when visiting Florence.

Atrium Bar At the Four Seasons

Borgo Pinti, 99 fourseasons.com

atrium bar florence (1)

Drink in the lap of luxury in Florence at the Atrium Bar at the Four Seasons – where chic meets old-world charm. The timeless, classic bar of the Four Seasons Hotel Florence is the epitome of elegance.

Atrium Bar is a majestic living room that is light and airy with plush couches that are extremely inviting. And the grandiose interiors and top-level service with cocktails to match will have you feeling like royalty. Gracious host and manager Tommaso Ondeggia and his team will take care of your every need. Whether you’re in the mood for a mid-afternoon espresso, a light snack, custom Negroni from their iconic drinks trolley or the best Club Sandwich in perhaps all the world, Atrium Bar is ready to welcome guests of the hotel and locals alike. A truly first-class, exclusive drinking experience when visiting Florence.

Florence Tipsy Tour

Experience Florence like never before with a three hour, all-encompassing night tour of the city. Immerse yourself in the cobbled streets once ruled by the Medici and hear all about their love, treason and stories of passion, meanwhile you enjoy a variety of local drinks in the company of enthusiastic guides and a multicultural crowd.

Located somewhere in Florence rasputinsecretbar.com

rasputin florence cocktail bar

We’re not really allowed to say much about this secret bar located somewhere in Florence. Except that Rasputin Firenze was the first of its kind to arrive here.  Speakeasy-style concept, space, and attitude – and still a hotspot after these years.

A world of mixology can be found within the beautiful and dark interiors of Rasputin secret bar. The drinks are also a throwback to that era…classic cocktails, some with a twist and their own signature drinks.  The first secret cocktail bar hidden underground, Rasputin Firenze is a serious drinking experience as long as you can keep it a (somewhat) secret. Reservations are mandatory through their website.

Via Roma, 1r caffegilli.com

bar tour in florence

The famous Caffè Gilli is one of Florence’s oldest grand cafes still operating to this day. Tradition and quality passed down through generations, this place is an institution in Florence. Founded in 1733 in the heart of Florence, Caffè Gilli is still as popular as ever. Gilli symbolizes the grand café culture that once was – where meetings over Italian coffee were a cultural and intellectual exchange. The interiors remain almost untouched, with marble-topped bar counters, dark wood, elegant chandeliers and formal yet extremely warm service.

From morning cappuccino, pastries, and café to prosecco and chocolates, Caffè Gilli is also a cocktail bar where you can find the closest thing to the first Negroni served in Florence. With outdoor seating and a fantastic view of the carousel in Piazza della Repubblica, Caffè Gilli 1773 is a must-see when in Firenze.

Manifattura Florence

Piazza San Pancrazio 1r Manifattura

manifattura cocktail bar florence

Taking inspiration from the Italian design of the 50’s, with a beautifully perforated metal door entrance and antiquated mirror-finished interior walls and other intricate touches throughout the space, this refined cocktail bar in Florence really stays true to its name ‘Manufacture’.

Everything is made in Italy down to what’s behind the bar. As in only Italian spirits, liquor brands and mixes can be found at Manifattura making it perhaps the first 100% Made in Italy cocktail bar.

Manifattura Cocktail Bar & Kitchen is all about quality and supporting local, and their drink menu also reflects that. From classic cocktails to their twist on a classic and signature drinks – even their aperitivo snacks are made from local products. Stellar cocktails and bartenders, a beautiful setting and even more beautiful mission, Manifattura is a must-visit bar in Florence.

Floréal Firenze

Borgo San Frediano 27/r florealfirenze

floreal bar florence

The latest edition to the growing Florence bar scene is Floréal Firenze . Floréal’s concept is an original one – a luxury street bar with premium products, floral artwork, and bright neon lights. Serious about their cocktails, food and service but keeping that chill neighborhood vibe, Floréal Firenze is the best of both bar worlds.

Their incredible cocktails (and now food) are a rediscovery of international classics – bold, unexpected flavors that you’d never expect from your typical street bar. With Antonio Romano’s partners and staff, everything is done with great thought, energy, and passion.

A temple of mixing and experimentation, always pushing to that next level of greatness – what Floréal Firenze has done in such a short (and challenging) time is more than impressive. This up-and-coming bar is definitely one of the best in Florence and a mandatory visit for anyone who appreciates good food and drinks in a casual but beautiful setting.

MAD Soul & Spirits

Borgo San Frediano, 36R madsoulsandspirits

mad souls and spirit florence

Like the name suggests, this local watering hole in Florence has mad soul and a spirit . A neighborhood, local favorite, MAD Soul & Spirits bar has an energy that is almost infectious. Part dive bar, part cocktail bar with the most fun and creative bartenders around.

This is probably one of the coolest, chill bars in Florence. MAD Soul & Spirits is ubercool everything – bartenders, drinks, environment – even the patrons. Despite the often-hilarious drink list – these cocktails are serious (and delicious) with flavors that are as unqiue and unexpected as their names.

From street view, the self-proclaimed ‘awesomeist cocktail bar in Europe and Micronesia’ MAD Soul & Spirits looks tiny and almost unassuming. But once inside, you’ll find a bar with so much life. One of the best bars around in Florence for happy hour and late-night drinks.

Via Fiesolana, 25R rexfirenze.com

rex cafe florence

A staple of Florence nightlife, Rex Café has managed to maintain its cool since the 90’s. Continuously transforming over the years to keep things fresh, Rex’s chill vibe and killer cocktails are the only constant, making it a longtime local favorite in Florence.

Some call it an American Bar but Rex Café is another thing altogether. A badass bar with a friendly attitude, great drinks, talented bartenders, and local DJs, Rex cocktail bar and dance club draws in a good crowd in the evening.

The vanguard space is the perfect stage for 360-degree entertainment – from live acoustic psychedelic music and house to rock, blues, jazz, and funk.  The nautical-themed and Gaudi-inspired interiors and fun, laid-back attitude makes Rex the perfect bar to meet friends (old and new) for a drink. Whether you’re looking for a chill evening or a crazy night out, Rex Café in Florence guarantees a good time every day of the week.

La Ménagère

Via dè Ginori, 8/R lamenagere.it

la menagere firenze

A charming space with a rich history, La Ménagère was one of the first Florentine houseware shops founded in 1896. But this vast space of 1500 square meters was recently reborn as a unique concept-restaurant and shop.

La Menagere’s unconventional and industrial space somewhat resembles a contemporary garden party with similar flavors to match. Despite the enchanting decor, La Ménagère is an informal place inviting you to linger as if you would in a regular café –  open for breakfast, café, snacks throughout the day all the way up until aperitivo and dinner. It also offers some carefully crafted cocktails inspired by the surrounding colors and scents. And signature tapas of unusual tastes and ingredients accompany each drink.

Restaurant, bistrot and bar, La Ménagère is also a shop – where you can find a collection flowers as well as handcrafted and recycled home goods on display – all available for purchase.

Borgo San Frediano, 24r lovecraftfirenze

love craft firenze

On the surface Love Craft seems like a rocker dive bar where only shots are ordered, but if you look a little closer (especially at the liquor collection behind the bar) you’ll realize what this place is all about – the love of whiskey.

The first whiskey bar in Florence, Love Craft is a dedication to whiskeys from all around the world. From classic whiskey served neat to whiskey-based cocktails and their special whiskey flights perfectly organized by theme and province. They also have a couple of craft beers on tap with a friendly, knowledgeable staff that’s ready to guide you.

The bar’s casual atmosphere serves some of the most refined selection of scotch and whiskey. Love Craft is the perfect bar introduction to liquid gold and an essential stop for any whiskey lover visiting Florence.

Sabor Cubano

It’s the perfect bar to grab a cocktail, specifically a Spritz – with seven different varieties to choose from. To pair with your drinks, you’ll find that Bulli & Balene offers a fun and interesting approach to the Florentine food scene – the idea is a new take on the Venetian ‘bacaro’. A place where you can sample local traditions in the form of small bites ranging from artisan cheeses to cured meats and much much more.

Le Volpi e l’Uva

Piazza dei Rossi, 1 levolpieluva.com

le volpi e l'uva firenze

A small but mighty enoteca near Ponte Vecchio is Le Volpi e l’Uva (the foxes and the grapes) – opened in 1992 by Emilio Monechi, Riccardo Comparini, and Ciro Beligni with a unique philosophy and mission (at least for that time) . And that was to focus on smaller, lesser-known Italian wine producers, making their wines more accessible to the public.

Throughout their 25+ years, Le Volpi e l’Uva has continued to do that and more – cultivating relationships with both their clients and producers. You’ll find top quality wine from every region of Italy in this modern enoteca. And despite the word getting out, attracting visitors from all over the world, Le Volpi is still extremely popular with the Florentine locals.

It offers an amazing aperitivo with a huge selection of wines by the glass and perfectly paired bar snacks. They also offer guided wine tastings or lessons with one of their expert sommeliers. When it comes to wine, it doesn’t get more authentic than Le Volpi e l’Uva in Florence.

Best Bars in Florence 2024

It may be more well known for its food, rather than its drink, but Florence is changing rapidly. The city now has a wealth of brilliant bars, from the old school to the new guard. Expect small wine bars showcasing the best of Tuscany’s natural wine scene, cocktail bars with a twist, and craft beer dive bars. Any of these recommendations would finish off a day of sightseeing and Florentine experiences a treat. Here is our guide to the best bars that Florence has to offer.

Table of Contents

Caffè Gilli

Best bars in Florence Caffe Gilli

Caffè Gilli is the oldest cafe in Florence and worth a trip just for that very reason. It’s a traditional bar with art nouveau decor and waiting staff dressed up in the old school way. The Negroni was allegedly invented here; a punchy cocktail made with equal parts gin, vermouth, and Campari and a favorite amongst the Florentines. The cafe also has the very fortunate position of being right on Piazza Republicca, the city’s main square. So pull up a chair, order a Negroni and people watch to your heart’s content.

Via Roma, 1r, 50123, Florence

Le Volpi e l’Uva

Enjoy natural wines in Florence

Le Volpi e l’Uva is a buzzing little wine bar just south of the river, specializing in natural wines. These are wines that have gained huge popularity in recent years, thanks to their lack of manipulation in the cellar and chemicals in the vineyard. This bar is small, but perfectly formed where you can try some of Tuscany’s best natural wines from small producers. Pair your wine with some delicious appetizers such as crostini with tomato and cheese, anchovies with lemon and butter, and cured meats and cheeses. The perfect Italian aperitivo spot, perhaps as a start to our Florence night walking tour ?

Piazza dei Rossi, 1R, 50125, Florence

Vigna Nuova Enoteca

Taste Tuscan Wine and cheese in Florence

Located just to the north of the river, close to the San Giovanni district lies Vigna Nuova Enoteca. A narrow wine bar that runs between two streets, this is a brilliant place to learn about the wonder of Tuscan wine. Come for the wine, but stay for the food; as always in Italy, you can eat some great snacks along with your bottle. From hand-carved ham to plates of local cheeses – and some larger plates for hungry souls – the kitchen here is excellent. Let the staff guide you around their excellent selection of Tuscan-heavy wine, they have some incredible bottles here. No guide to the best bars in Florence would be complete without it.

And if the great food and drinks here have whetted your appetite to learn more about Florence’s food scene, check out our Tuscan market tour and c o oking class where you can learn how to cook some fantastic Tuscan dishes.

Via dei Federighi, 3/R, 50123, Florence

Locale Firenze

Exceptional cocktails in Florence

Its exceptional cocktails galore at Locale Firenze, housed in a palace that has its roots back into the 12th century. It’s an opulent, decadent space as you’d imagine, with high vaulted ceilings and a glass roof. But it’s the cocktails you really come to see here. They are inventive and innovative – you’ll see all tricks of the trade being used here, from dry ice to interesting glassware. Expect even your classic cocktails to have a contemporary twist on them. Visiting Locale is an experience in itself and well worth visiting during your Florentine vacation; it’s not only one of the best cocktail bars in Florence, but in the whole of Italy.

Via delle Seggiole, 12r, 50122, Florence

Bulli and Balene

Try Venetian sandwiches in Florence

Bulli and Balene is housed inside an old tobacco factory, now repurposed as an event space. Unusually for Florence, this bar models itself on the bacaros of Venice; the old bars that serve small snacks to go with your drinks. So expect Venetian favorites such as cicchetti- small slices of bread topped with inventive, delicious things – or tramezzini, Venitian sandwiches. The drinks are great too with plenty of aperitivo and bitters such as Aperol spritz and Campari, as is the Venetian way.

Via dello Sprone, 14/R, 50125, Florence

Italian craft beer in Florence

If you like Italian craft beer, be sure to visit Diorama. It’s small in size but not in the offering. The bar offers what feels like hundreds of different Italian craft beers, both on draught and in bottle, so this is a great place to learn about what’s going on in Italy’s craft beer scene right now. You can eat some hearty fare here too, like Ribollita, a traditional Tuscan stew. The whole place feels a bit like someone’s living room; comfortable, unassuming but ultimately a lot of fun.

Via Pisana, 78r, 50143, Florence

Taylor Swift poses on the red carpet.

A new ‘Era’ just dropped.

On Friday, April 19, at midnight, Taylor Swift released her eleventh studio album “The Tortured Poets Department.”

“An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time – one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure,” Swift wrote on Instagram , describing the ambitious record.

Two hours later, she surprised even the most devout Swifties announcing that “The Tortured Poets Department” is a 31-track (!) double album.

“I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours,” she shared in a second late night post.

While fans devour the sprawling record — featuring special guests Post Malone and Florence And The Machine — Swift is gearing up for another leg of her ongoing ‘Eras Tour.’

Starting May 9, she’ll resume her international trek with four shows at Paris, FR’s La Defense Arena .

When our team last reported on tickets in early January, prices for those France gigs could be scored for as low as $797 USD before fees on Vivid Seats.

Now, prices start at $433 before fees at the time of publication.

While that downward trend doesn’t hold true for every country she’s visiting, some ticket prices are significantly lower than they were three months ago.

The lowest price we found for all 65 remaining shows was $202 before fees for a show in Lyon, FR; the biggest drop in prices for a single show was over $2,500 (!) for an Italy gig.

Want to dig a bit deeper and find out how much it will cost to see Taylor (and maybe Travis Kelce) this year at the show nearest you?

You’re in luck.

We went ahead and found the cheapest tickets for all ‘Eras Tour’ concerts now versus what they cost on Jan. 3, 2024.

See you at a show (and save us a friendship bracelet).

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

Taylor Swift 2024 tickets

A complete calendar including all upcoming tour dates, venues and the best ticket prices for all concerts versus what they cost on Jan. 3 can be found here.

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

Taylor Swift ‘Eras Tour’ news

Our team has been following the ‘Eras Tour’ closely over the past year.

Over the past few months, we’ve a) spoken to a Swiftie who  shared some helpful tips  about seeing Taylor live, b)  came up with a list of all the most exciting fan trends  and c)  explained the drama  surrounding her international opener Sabrina Carpenter.

Want to see how much it cost to see Taylor in the states at the outset of the ‘Eras Tour?’ You can find that information  right here .

Taylor Swift new music

As noted above, Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” was released on midnight (and subsequently at 2 a.m.) on Friday, April 19.

While every listener will likely come away with their own favorites, we particularly enjoyed the sleek synth of “Fortnight,” icy “So Long, London,” anthemic “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” bombastic slow build of “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” and gorgeously arranged ballad “Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus.”

If you want to give it a spin — if you haven’t already, that is — you can find “The Tortured Poets Department” here .

Taylor Swift opening acts

Taylor only has two opening acts lined up for the ‘Eras Tour’ this year.

Here’s what you need to know about her well-established special guests.

Paramore will play alongside Swift after mounting a massive 2023 tour of their own. The group, fronted by lead singer Hayley Williams, reunited in 2022 after a five-year hiatus. For fans that want to check out their latest, you can listen to “This Is Why,” their sixth studio album, which dropped in February 2023.

Gracie Abrams , the daughter of film director JJ Abrams and producer Katie McGrath, is a star in her own right. Her song “I miss you, I’m sorry” has upwards of 100 million streams on Spotify, she opened for Olivia Rodrigo on the 2022 “Sour Tour” and headlined her own tour last spring as well.

Huge stars on tour in 2024

Although it will cost an arm and a leg (maybe more!) to see Swift live this year, there are much more affordable concerts you can attend this year.

Here are just five of our favorite artists you won’t want to miss live.

•  Olivia Rodrigo

•  Kacey Musgraves

•  Chappell Roan

•  Alanis Morissette

Food Tour in Florence or Rome: Which is Better?

O ne of the first things most people think about when considering a trip to Italy is the food they’ll indulge in. Pasta, pizza, and prosciutto could be its own holy trinity of “P” foods that people look forward to in this well-visited European country. But should you take a food tour in Rome or Florence?

What are the nuisances of cuisine in each city and region? Do you need to choose between the two options, or simply take a food tour in one city or the other to understand Italy and its “Italian” food?

We share details of our experience in both cities, including if you need to do a tour in both locations or just one and what you will taste during each food tour. We’re also sharing our preferred tour operator (spoil alert: it’s Devour Tours ) and a review of the Rome food tour and Florence food tour.

We were hosted by Devour and truly only recommend experiences, hotels, products, and services we use and support. As Amazon Associates, we earn from qualifying purchases.

Food tour in rome or florence: the verdict.

We signed up for a food tour in both cities during a trip to Italy, where we traveled from Rome to Florence, then ended our week-long trip in Milan before heading to Madrid, Spain.

We like to understand the food culture as early as possible during our vacation so we know what to order for the rest of the trip (and where to order it because food tour guides always recommend great food spots).

As such, we took a food tour in Rome on our second night there, which was the earliest available time to book during our trip. When we arrived in Florence a couple of days later, we immediately took a Florence food tour on our first night there.

Our verdict is that doing a tour in both cities was the right decision. We were so glad we did a food tour in Rome and a food tour in Florence because we learned wildly different information and experienced how different the food is in both cities through the tours, even though they are not geographically far from each other.

Also, it’s important to know that pizza, which originated in Naples, isn’t a focus of either food tour. So don’t expect to have an array of pizza varieties whatsoever during a Florence or Rome food tour! The tours dig deeper into Rome and Florence’s food culture and food experiences.

We also want to note that no matter the city we visit, if there is a Devour food tour option, we book it. It is our preferred food tour operator because they’re always amazing, including stellar guides, information, and locations. They’re reliable as the “best of the best,” and they support local businesses, which is a cause we can get behind.

Food Tour in Rome vs. Florence: Foods You Will Try

Both tours left us feeling very full! We had plenty to eat and drink on both the Rome Food Tour and the Florence food tour.

An overview of what to expect during a food tour in Rome includes:

  • Local red and white wine, Prosecco, and a cocktail Spritz
  • Cheeses and meats
  • A special Rome street food item called Suppli

During our Rome food tour, two guests included a vegetarian and a non-alcohol drinker. The vegetarian guest was easily accommodated with a veggie option instead of meat. The man who didn’t drink alcohol was always offered an alternative, like a Coke or Fanta, wherever we went when we had wine or a cocktail instead.

Our Florence food tour included:

  • Wine (including local red wine and dessert wine)
  • Bruschettas, including one with a tomato spread and one with a truffle spread
  • Various meats
  • Florentine steak and potatoes
  • Gelato

While some of the foods seem to overlap at a glance, we learned that the regional flavors and selections of the particular wines and cheeses, for example, were different from one tour to another.

As another example, we had meat during both tours. But we only learned about salami made with peppercorns versus salami made with fennel on our Florence tour. Our guide shared the historical importance of the spices for each meat.

Of course, the city and locations were different for our Rome food tour vs. the Florence food tour. In each city, our food guide shared information about the city, overall, and the neighborhood we were in. Naturally, we learned different information about the area in Rome versus Florence.

Devour Food Tours in Italy

As we previously mentioned, Devour is our preferred tour operator for food tours. We are so lucky they have tours in Italy in various cities. They also host tours in places like Paris, France , the United States (including California, Massachusetts, and NYC), and all over Spain .

They believe in supporting locally owned businesses during their food tours, keeping the group size small and intimate.

While the tours can accommodate a variety of allergies and dietary preferences (including for vegetarians), we do not recommend either Italy food tour for vegans. Italy, as a country, has a long way to go for veganism.

Rome Food Tour Review with Devour

We met our guide in the Treverstere neighborhood of Rome. It’s on the side of the Tiber River opposite the Colosseum and Vatican City, where we did the wonderful “ Pristine Sistine ” Walks tour earlier in the day. Walking there or taking a bus to that side of town is very easy if you’re not at a hotel in the neighborhood.

Locals flock to Treverstere to find great food. It is well known for its enotecas (wine bars), cocktail bars, and restaurants.

Our group was small, with just five people. The passion that our guide, Manuela, had for Rome and tourism shined through. She had been a flight attendant for years before pursuing a career as a tour guide in her home city, which she has been doing for about eight years.

Though it was raining, the tour was joyful and upbeat as we bounced around five or so destinations.

Rome Food Tour Food and Drink Locations

Out of respect for the tour, we will not spill the beans on the exact locations we visited. However, we will say that it was very clear that the businesses were all owned by locals who were making an honest living with their quality food and warm hospitality.

A favorite stop was a bar that has been owned by the same man since the 1960s. Marcello was at the register when we stopped by, sitting beneath an old menu sign above him.

The prices were still marked in Italian lira from before Italy joined the European Union. This stop was also a great time to try Campari or Aperol spritzes, an incredibly popular drink amongst Europeans.

Food-wise, it was so interesting to get some “suppli” at one of the most popular places in Rome. We learned that it’s a grab-and-go kind of food similar to arancini in Sicily, but with distinct Roman differences.

During our Devour food tour, eating it on the go was fun, as the Romans do. Dan and I would never have known about this food without the tour, including its history or where to order it.

We happily ate our share as we walked to the next food tour location, an enoteca where we learned about white and red wines and had delicious apertivos.

Book the Same Food Tour in Rome

We loved another food stop where we sat down to try three kinds of pasta local to Rome. They were all amazing! It was fun to sit at a family-owned restaurant and eat the dishes, which were served family-style.

Though we ate one of the two kinds of pasta in Rome the day before, we didn’t understand how it was made until our Rome food tour.

Manuela shared the simple “ingredient rules” that Romans follow when creating pasta dishes at home. She also shared a bit about proteins in the country and what locals consider food for at home and food to order at restaurants.

She explained some of the cultural aspects of eating meals out, including the times Roman Italians dine. It was all very educational.

We discovered that the same restaurant offers Devour cooking classes when a colleague of Manuela’s stopped by to say a quick hello as she walked through the restaurant to the kitchen. She was wearing her Devour cooking apron and was incredibly friendly and smiley!

Florence Food Tour Review with Devour

Our food tour was on the same side of the Arno River where we were staying. It was a 15-minute walk from our Airbnb to our food tour meeting point, on the Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens side of town.

It’s a short walk across the river over the Ponte Vecchio to get to the meeting point if you’re staying near the Duomo or Palazzo Vecchio/Piazza della Signoria area.

That is also the side of Florence where the Accademia Gallery (where the David sculpture is) and the Uffizi Gallery are located. (We explored that area the day after our food tour during the fantastic “ Florence in a Day with David, Duomo, Uffizi & Walking Tour .”)

We met in front of the state of Cosimo Ridolfi in Piazza Santo Spirito, as our email confirmation instructed. Our guide, Antonio, was awaiting our arrival. Our group of ten people was eager to explore the Oltrarno area and try new foods.

Antonio shared a bit about the area we were standing in and Italy’s history before we started walking to our first food destination. He shared things about Italy’s formation as a nation and the Italian language we had never thought of before. It all tied into the Florence food tour we were about to take.

Florence Food Tour Food and Drink Locations

Again, we won’t get into the specifics of where we stopped out of respect for the tour and you, so you’ll have great surprises when you sign up for it.

But a favorite stop was a small apertivo bar, where Antonio remembers shopping for herbs with his parents as a child. The building has been in the owner’s family for multiple generations and had a former life as an herbal shop years ago.

Another hit of the tour was a famous “wine window” of Florence. It was even an item for one of the women on our tour to check off her Italy bucket list.

Because we were with a tour that had a reservation at the popular wine window, we were able to bypass the long line of people waiting for their turn. Such a perk to be on a well-organized food tour!

Book the Same Food Tour in Florence

These wine windows were recently resurrected and regained popularity during the pandemic. Antonio shared the history of the wine windows in Florence, which was not at all the reason we suspected they were invented!

We also loved stopping at a BBQ place. But it’s not at all like American BBQ. It’s just a place where they grill items inside on a special grill. Famously, the restaurant serves “Florentine Steak.” Trying this famous Florentine dish with other excited tourists anxious to dig in was thrilling.

Tasting the steak is part of what made it one of the top things to do in Florence .

Our dessert stop was for gelato on this tour, like it was during our food tour in Rome. But truthfully, you cannot escape gelato in Italy. It’s EVERYWHERE . And it was great to try different flavors in Florence and learn about one, in particular, that was a local favorite.

Rome and Florence Food Tours Conclusion

We recommend both food tours in both cities. We truly learned and ate different things on each tour. The breadth of knowledge we gained about Italy’s local cuisine, culture, and history through exploring Florence and Rome with experienced local guides was invaluable.

We advise signing up for both tours in advance (they often sell out weeks ahead of time, especially during peak travel seasons) and booking for a date as close to when you arrive in the city as possible.

That way, you will be able to eat subsequent meals with more knowledge of how the locals eat and order, and you can benefit from the restaurant recommendations from the Devour food tour guides.

Celebrities Opt for Barely Any Clothes at the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscars Party

From Kendall Jenner to Florence Pugh, celebrities are all-in on the naked dressing agenda.

Kendall Jenner

Sure, the Super Bowl of red carpet fashion— the Oscars —presented some unforgettable moments , from a resurgent mermaidcore trend to a final Barbie gown requiring 400 hours to create. But just as fashion lovers thought the ceremony's biggest stars brought their best looks forward, a second event pushed the style agenda even further. As the big occasion winded down, A-listers trickled over to the Vanity Fair after party to celebrate in style. The hottest trend of the night? Nearly-naked dressing, in gowns that barely counted as clothes.

While John Cena might've taken the "nude" agenda quite literally on the Oscars stage, the Vanity Fair after party featured a more refreshed spin on the skin-revealing look. See stars like Quinta Brunson, Chrissy Teigen, and Pamela Anderson, for example, who incorporated floral appliqués into the barely-there mix .

Some of the party's attendees embraced the revealing aesthetic via couture undergarments. Margot Robbie swapped out of her LBD for a vintage gold crystal-studded Mugler corset, wearing it as a mini dress and baring her legs. Zoe Lister-Jones followed suit in a corseted Wiederhoeft number, opting for nude-colored tights and matching opera gloves.

Most of the guests went sheer, sticking with see-through tulle as the base. Vanessa Hudgens debuted her baby bump in an exposing cape-style dress layered with matching black underwear, while Kendall Jenner pulled an intricate lace black gown straight from the Maison Margiela 2024 couture collection.

If there's anything to gather from the post-Oscars festivities, it's that the much-adored style stars are all in for polarizing silhouettes—and the nearly-naked look is here to stay. Here are all the best barely-there ensembles from the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscars Party ahead.

Review: our critic and a 13-year-old swiftie discuss taylor swift's new album (first iteration).

Taylor Swift tantalizes and tortures us once again. This time it's with her new album, "The Tortured Poets Department," which dropped at midnight Friday. Which guy(s) in her life is she singing about? Why is she so unlucky in love? Which of these songs is about new beau Travis Kelce?

After one listen to the 16 songs on her 11th studio album, we have a few quick impressions, a few answers and a lot more questions.

Wait! Stop the presses! Swift dropped a second installment of the album — 15 additional songs — at 2 a.m., two hours after the first record.

To help examine the initial iteration of the new album, I reached out to the resident Swiftie in my family, my 13-year-old cousin Alivia Stiber of Portland, Ore. She listens to Taylor music about 10 hours a week but streams Swift songs with the volume off during school to boost streaming numbers. She got lucky in the lottery and scored tickets to see the pop icon's Eras Tour in October in New Orleans.

We shared our early thoughts about the first 16 songs in a late-night phone call.

Overall impression

Swiftie : It was a lot. It's really good. One of my friends and I were texting each other the whole time we were listening and we were both freaking out.

I was expecting more upbeat songs. I'm super excited to go back and listen to it and analyze it and read all about it. It's definitely going to be in my Top 5 [of Swift albums]. It's going to go up. Maybe it's like my third or fourth at the moment. No. 1 is "Reputation" and No. 2 is "Folklore."

Critic: It's deep and complicated because Taylor is both a detailed and obtuse lyricist at the same time. Despite seemingly being crazy in love with her football superstar, she is mostly expressing a lot of anger and heartbreak about relationships here. Didn't we expect some more romantic songs? This kiss-off collection is heavy on ballads and medium-tempo tunes with only one bop ("I Can Do It With a Broken Heart") and one almost-banger ("Florida!!!"). Parents, be forewarned: Seven of the 16 selections have explicit lyrics.

Favorite lyrics

Swiftie: In "Tortured Poets Department," there was one that just hit: "At dinner you take my ring off my middle finger and put it on the one that people put wedding rings on and that's the closest I've come to my heart exploding."

Critic: My pick comes from the title track, too: "I laughed in your face and said, 'You're not Dylan Thomas/ I'm not Patti Smith/ This ain't the Chelsea Hotel/ We're modern idiots." But there are a lot of memorable lines throughout the record.

Who is this song about?

Swiftie: Obviously, a lot of them are about Joe Alwyn. Probably "Tortured Poets Department," "So Long, London," "LOML," "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart." Most of them, I feel like.

Critic: Alwyn, her British actor beau of half a decade, is presumably the subject of a few songs, especially "So Long, London." "The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" is likely inspired by the 1975′s singer Matty Healy, with whom Taylor had a rumored fling. And Scooter Braun, who sold Swift's catalog of her first six albums without consulting her, is probably the target of "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me," a decidedly unromantic taunt.

Which song(s) might be about Travis Kelce?

Swiftie: I thought she would do one, but I feel like I didn't hear much.

Critic: "The Alchemy" with the lyrics "Trying to be the greatest in the league / Where's the trophy? / He just comes running over to me."

Which featured guest is better — Post Malone on "Fortnight" or Florence Welch on "Florida!!!"?

Swiftie: I thought they were both really good.

Critic: Malone's sandpaper voice doesn't add much but Welch's unmistakable siren seduces you like Florida sunshine.

What did you think of her shoutout to pop star Charlie Puth in the title song, saying he deserves to be bigger?

Swiftie: That caught me in shock. I'm not a big fan of his. He's a good artist.

Critic: That will boost his ego and probably his streaming numbers.

In the closing track, "Clara Bow," named after the silent movie star who became one of Hollywood's first sex symbols, Swift name-checks Stevie Nicksand herself. What did you think of Taylor singing her own name?

Swiftie: I heard her name, and I was like "What?"

Critic: She became pals with Nicks after they duetted on the Grammys in 2010 when Swift had some pitch problems. Nicks contributes liner notes — actually a poem — to the album package. As for her self-referential verse at the end of the final song on the first second, well, you decide:

"You look like Taylor Swift/ In this light/ We're loving it/ You've got edge/ She never did."

After our conversation, Alivia planned to listen to the album again while finishing her math and science homework. On her Friday to-do list is a trip to Target to buy the clear vinyl version of "The Tortured Poets Department." But that was before she heard about the second half of the double album.

Donald Trump could face prison time if he is convicted in upcoming NY hush money trial

bar tour in florence

If former President Donald Trump is convicted on all counts in his New York criminal hush money trial that begins April 15, he could theoretically face more than a decade in prison.

But most legal experts who spoke to USA TODAY said such a dramatic outcome is unlikely. Instead, he would likely be sentenced to something between probation and four years in prison. And he would probably still be out, free to campaign for president as the presumptive or actual 2024 Republican nominee, while his all-but-certain appeal was pending.

Trump faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Each count carries a maximum sentence of four years.

While Trump could in principle be sentenced to serve multiple counts consecutively, several experts said that is unlikely because he has no felony criminal record and the charges don't involve allegations of physical violence.

On the other hand, Trump has tested boundaries and feuded with the judge who may determine his fate.

Prep for the polls: See who is running for president and compare where they stand on key issues in our Voter Guide

Trump has antagonized Judge Juan Merchan

Trump's sentence would be decided by Judge Juan Merchan, who has grown exasperated by the former president's pretrial behavior. Merchan expanded a gag order this month after Trump attacked the judge's daughter on social media over her marketing work with Democratic candidates, including posting a photo of her. Merchan said Trump has a history of attacking the family members of judges and lawyers in his legal cases.

"The average observer, must now, after hearing Defendant's recent attacks, draw the conclusion that if they become involved in these proceedings, even tangentially, they should worry not only for themselves,  but for their loved ones as well ," Merchan wrote in his gag order decision .

John Moscow, a New York lawyer who spent 30 years in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, told USA TODAY that type of behavior could worsen any sentence Trump faces.

"If I were representing somebody in (Trump's) position, I would suggest to him that the judge is the one who imposes sentence and he ought to be careful," Moscow said.

If Merchan did consider a hefty sentence, it wouldn't be the first time he has taken a harsh view about behavior in Trump's orbit.

In 2023, Merchan was forced to sentence former Trump Organization chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg to only five months in jail because Merchan had previously accepted a plea bargain agreement between Weisselberg and prosecutors specifying that jail term. Weisselberg pleaded guilty to tax and record falsification charges and agreed to testify against the Trump Organization at trial in order to get that sentence.

The judge said, however, that he "would be imposing a sentence much greater than that" had he not accepted the plea bargain before hearing all the evidence at the trial. Without the plea deal, Weisselberg could have faced many years in prison.

What is Trump charged with?

Trump has pleaded not guilty to all counts in the case, which focuses on whether he falsified business records to cover up reimbursements to his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, for a $130,000 hush money payment to Daniels. Daniels has said she had a sexual encounter with Trump soon after Melania Trump gave birth to their son, Barron Trump. Trump denies the claim.

In order to secure felony convictions, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office must convince a 12-person jury that Trump falsified the records in order to commit or conceal another crime. In this case, Bragg argues Trump was trying to conceal a federal campaign finance law violation by falsely recording his reimbursements to Cohen as payments for legal services. The federal violation was a limit-exceeding contribution to Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, as the payment was allegedly designed to keep Daniels' story from hurting the then-Republican nominee's election prospects. Bragg also alleges Trump was trying to conceal a plan to violate New York tax and election laws.

Nothing in the Constitution prevents Trump from becoming president even if he is convicted or sentenced to prison. If he won the election, however, courts may delay any prison time until after his term in office expires .

What is the maximum possible sentence?

The 34 felony counts Trump faces are classified as "Class E felonies" under New York law – the lowest level felony in the state. The maximum penalty on each count is four years of prison, and a judge would have discretion over whether to order Trump to serve sentences on each count at the same time or one after the other. However, New York caps such sentencing for Class E felonies at 20 years .

In addition, New York judges often impose sentencing ranges, where an incarcerated person becomes eligible for parole at the low end of the range. For Class E felonies, the lowest end of a range would be one-and-a-third years per count, while the highest would be four years. Good behavior in jail or prison can speed things up even more.

A sentence limited to probation?

Merchan would also have discretion to order a fixed sentence of less than those ranges, including probation.

That's what Mitchell Epner, a New York lawyer with decades of criminal law experience, expects would happen even if Trump were convicted on all counts. Epner noted the felony charges aren't violent and don't involve drugs.

"With a defendant who has no prior criminal record, my absolute expectation would be a sentence of probation," Epner told USA TODAY.

Epner wasn't alone in thinking that could be the sentencing outcome.

"This is a case that does not involve any physical violence, and it doesn't – there's not sort of a 'named victim,' so to speak – and so the court is going to take that into consideration," Anna Cominsky, who directs the Criminal Defense Clinic at New York Law School, told USA TODAY.

"In addition, I think it is unlikely that he would be sent to prison given who he is, given both the fact that he has no criminal record, and there is no getting around the fact that he is a former president of the United States," Cominsky said.

Incarceration a real possibility

Norman Eisen, a Brookings Institution senior fellow who served as special counsel to the House Judiciary Committee during Trump's first impeachment, thought a sentence that includes some incarceration is likely.

Eisen co-authored a report looking at sentencing for other defendants with no criminal history who were convicted of falsifying business records in New York. There, he noted one construction executive was sentenced in 2015 to spend two days each week in jail for a year for falsifying records to conceal payments in a bribery scheme. In 2013, two corporate executives were ordered to spend four to six months in jail for falsifying records to misclassify their salaries as expenses under their employer's larger bribery and fraud scheme.

"I think he's likely to face a sentence of incarceration if he's convicted," Eisen told USA TODAY.

Cominsky said the evidence Merchan hears at trial could also influence his thinking when it comes to sentencing.

"Often you'll hear judges refer to testimony at trial, evidence that was presented at trial, and say, 'This is why I'm imposing this sentence, because I heard from this particular witness or I saw this particular piece of evidence,'" Cominsky said.

Moscow pushed back against the assumption that Trump's sentences on each count would run simultaneously, instead of being stacked on top of each other. Just as a judge may take into account that a defendant has won a Nobel Peace Prize or lifted orphans from poverty, the judge may look at significant evidence of bad acts, Moscow said.

"When you start attacking the judge's daughter, and making her out to be a target, you have just breached the normal rules," Moscow said.

Trump has also posted a photo of himself wielding a bat, with his eyes directed toward an adjacent photo of Bragg, among other attacks on the district attorney. Bragg's office has received thousands of harassing emails, calls, and texts – including death threats – after Trump's social media attacks, it said in a court filing .

Diana Florence, a New York lawyer who spent decades in the Manhattan District Attorney's office, said Merchan's sentence would need to have some relation to what other white-collar defendants in similar cases have received, and she would be surprised if someone had ever gotten a sentencing range for falsifying business records with a minimum of 10 years or more.

Such a long sentence "would be very, very, very, very unusual, and if Judge Merchan wanted to make a point and do that, I highly doubt the appellate division would allow that to stand," she said. "It's just too much time for the conduct."

However, Florence added that a reasonable sentencing range could include a minimum period of more than a year incarcerated.

Sentencing someone with Secret Service protection?

Contemplating any jail or prison sentence would take Merchan into unchartered territory: Trump is the first former president ever criminally charged, and the Secret Service provides him with around-the-clock security.

But avoiding a sentence of incarceration on that basis risks undermining the idea of equal treatment under the law, Moscow suggested.

"If I were the judge − and I don't know what a judge would do in this case − I would reject out of hand the concept that because he was once president, and because as a matter of policy the Secret Service guards former presidents, that therefore he can't go to jail," Moscow said.

The question would then become how to reconcile equal treatment with ensuring a former president's security, according to Moscow. The judge could get creative, for example by ordering the former president to stay in a hotel wing or at a military base, where he is isolated just like any other prisoner but still has Secret Service protection.

"You can structure things to achieve the proper result without conceding that the defendant has the upper hand," Moscow said.

Chances of immediate prison? 'Less than 1%'

Many convicted defendants are "remanded" pending sentencing, a process in which they are taken into custody while they await their sentence, Florence said.

But Florence didn't expect Merchan to give that order when it comes to Trump, and even if Merchan did, Trump would likely be able to get bail set by an appeals court in the thousands of dollars to stay free during his appeal. That's all the more likely if Trump receives a low sentence, since the appeal could take longer than his actual sentence, she said.

"The chances of him going to prison immediately, even if he's convicted in whatever, six weeks from now or whenever, are I would say less than 1% because he would immediately be released on bail pending appeal," according to Florence.

Eisen agreed Trump probably wouldn't be incarcerated by Election Day, even if he's convicted on all counts.

"I think he's extremely unlikely to be forced to serve that sentence pending appeal," Eisen said.

Two weeks after arrest, Morgan Wallen starts tour: How to get tickets to his Pa. shows in May

  • Updated: Apr. 19, 2024, 9:24 a.m. |

Morgan Wallen

Morgan Wallen will start his "One Night at a Time" tour on April 20, 2024, which includes performances May 9 at Hersheypark Stadium and May 11 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. The tour starts just two weeks after Wallen was charged in Nashville with throwing a chair from the sixth floor of Eric Church's new bar. Just days after his arrest earlier this month, country singer Morgan Wallen landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.

The song, ironically, is “Man Made a Bar,” that Wallen collaborated on with none other than his friend and country music singer, Eric Church. It hit No. 1 on April 12.

Wallen is charged with throwing a chair from the roof of Chief’s, a bar in Nashville, Tennessee, owned by Church, on April 7.

Wallen faces three counts of felony reckless endangerment and a misdemeanor disorderly conduct. The chair reportedly landed near police officers. No one was injured.

Wallen is reportedly scheduled to be in court on May 3 - the same day he is scheduled to perform at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on his “One Night at a Time” World Tour that starts this weekend - April 20.

The tour starts at Vaught Hemingway Stadium at the University of Mississippi. Fans there were angry in April of last year when Wallen abruptly canceled the concert after 60,000 of them were already in the stadium and the opening acts had already performed.

Fans were told that Wallen had lost his voice. More concerts were postponed at the time so that Wallen could go on vocal rest including one scheduled for Hershey in May 2023. Wallen resumed his schedule in June 2023 with the approval of doctors.

The “One Night at a Time” World Tour includes performances at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at Hersheypark Stadium and Saturday, May 11, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

Wallen is scheduled to perform at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on May 17 and May 18.

Wallen, while being one of country music’s biggest stars, has been in trouble before. In 2021 he was caught on video using profanity and a racial slur. That got him suspended by radio stations and awards shows. The year before he was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct, also in Nashville, Tennessee.

Wallen’s hit songs have included “Thought You Should Know,” “Last Night” and “Whiskey Glasses.”

Here is where fans can buy tickets to his Pa. concerts (prices are as of the time of this post):
