Additionally, the interactive touchscreens and animated screens definitely makes the tour more engaging and enjoyable.

Wait, Singapore even has an Air Force museum ? Yes! For children who are fasiincated with airplanes, helicopters and cockpits, this is definitely for them. An additional incentive is that this museum is free to the public, so feel free to bring your kids here for some fun and educational time. There is an indoor and outdoor museum, so your kids can see the actual planes such as the E2C Hawkeye and BAC Strikemaster as well as explore the indoor museum like the old air force artefacts.

A radio station tour sounds a little too exciting. Interested to know what happens behind the radio stations? Well, make a trip down to the tour! A highly information and education experience for children as they explore the behind the scenes of Traffic watch stations and many others!

8. Trick Eye Museum

Trick Eye Museum is definitely the place to have fun and ignite your curiosity and spark for optical illusions and perspective. Located at Sentosa Gateway , the museum is originally from Korea and it features Augmented Reality (AR) features to its exhibits. Make lots of memories and snap away as you step inside the exhibits and take surreal pictures.

9. Underwater World at S.E.A Aquarium

A trip down to the aquarium is one of the best things to do during the weekend! It is perfect if the weather outside is scorching hot and you would like to enjoy the cooling breeze of aircondition whilst marvelling at the over 1000 marine species which S.E.A Aquarium houses.

10. Kidsstop

13. The Philatelic Museum

This museum may not be that well-known nor really heard of. It has an interesting name and in case you didn’t know, philately is the study and collection of postage and imprinted stamps. Explore the many stamps hailing from different origins as well as their history. It is very suitable for students and kids who wish to know more about all things stamp related! Just take note however that the museum is closed for renovation from 18 March 2019 to 2022.

14. Haw Par Villa

Haw Par Villa cultural park may give off an eerie vibe with scary looking statues stationed outside the main entrance. Despite its exterior look, this cultural park actually has a lot to offer! It is a theme park featuring many statues which tell stories of Chinese folklore and the stages of Chinese hell, which may be a little daunting for young children.

15. Bollywood Veggies

Last on my list of recommended places for educational tours would be this 10-acre farming facility tucked away in a rustic place in Kranji. SCHOOL FIELD TRIP & EXCURSIONS FOR PRESCHOOLERS

preschool field trips singapore

Discover a world of active learning activities for preschoolers that go beyond the four walls of a classroom. Engage, excite, and educate young minds with adventures they won’t soon forget.

AESTHETICS AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION

Aesthetics involves the love and pursuit of beauty as found in art, music and movement. It creates opportunities for the creative expression of emotions and ideas.

In this Learning Journey at MINT Museum of Toys, we have included learning points of art, music and movement in each of our 4 trails – Outerspace, Characters, Childhood Favourites & Collectables — to foster the holistic development of preschool children, including the cognitive, physical, social-emotional and creative domains.

Each trail provides a range of stimuli, ideas and opportunities for children to colour, express and move! These experiences help promote children’s imagination and creativity.

ACTIVE PRESCHOOL LEARNING ACTIVITIES

The preschool years are a crucial time for learning, as this is the age when foundational skills are built up to prepare young children for formal schooling. One way to enhance the learning experience is through practising active learning which engages higher-level skills such as thinking, discussing, investigating, and creating. As adults, these skills may seem like second nature, but for a preschooler, these are brand-new skills to acquire!

Play is one of the most effective and intuitive ways for children to learn about the world around them, and as a toy museum in Singapore , that’s one of the things we know best! Our school field trips for preschoolers use a variety of active learning strategies to keep the kids engaged so that they can get the most out of our learning journeys. These activities include roleplaying, arts and crafts, movement, and puppetry so that the kids are never bored. With 4 trails to choose from – each with its own storyline and uniquely featured toys – we are always striving to be a place where children can learn and develop new skills while having fun.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS IN SINGAPORE

preschool field trips singapore

What is the purpose of a field trip and is it good for students?

A field trip takes students outside of school to undergo new experiences, acquire unique content knowledge, and hone critical thinking skills gained during classroom lessons. This lets them draw and reinforce connections between their classroom knowledge and the real world. Field trips are common amongst students in Singapore at every age group, and are also a good way for students to bond with their classmates in a fun and engaging environment. For preschoolers, specifically, such trips provide them with exposure to diverse places that encourage curiosity and discovery, making every place they visit a platform for interactive learning.

What are the types of field trips?

There are all kinds of field trips available for schools in Singapore to choose from. If you are looking for a field trip for preschoolers to a place offering active learning activities that focus on creativity, imagination, and aesthetics, look no further than the MINT Museum of Toys.

How long is a field trip?

The length of a field trip varies according to the host or venue organising it as well as the size of the place the activities are held at. The field trip programmes for preschoolers here at the MINT Museum of Toys last for 60 minutes. If your school is interested in having a field trip to our museum in Singapore, get in touch with us for more information. You may also consider our workshop for kids .

What is the best school field trip?

The best type of school field trip is one that actively engages its students and provides a unique experience that will let them learn through having fun. Our learning journeys for preschoolers here at the MINT Museum of Toys are designed to practise active learning through experiential activities . As play is the natural way that young children learn best, we emphasise the importance of having fun throughout the trip so that they can stay meaningfully engaged with the activities.

Why are active learning activities so important for preschoolers?

Active learning is a key part of early childhood education. It refers to allowing children to directly interact with the environment around them so that they can learn through sensory activities and input. Simply put it is one of the most intuitive ways that preschoolers learn, and has many benefits such as improving their self-esteem, finetuning their motor skills, and boosting crucial skills in problem-solving, creativity, reasoning, and teamwork.

What are the best active learning activities for preschoolers?

Children naturally engage with and interpret the world around them through the process of play. This does not just refer to having fun but to allowing children to freely explore the environment around them in order to make sense of new experiences. The best active learning experiences for preschoolers are ones that recognise this and thus use a range of sensory stimuli and fun activities to allow children to express their imagination and creativity.

Preschool excursions extend learning by exploring fun day-trip destinations. With Forrest Preschool, our goal is to turn these excursions into fun and memorable adventures for our little budding sprouts. Despite being a metropolitan city, Singapore still has a lot to offer when it comes to educational opportunities.

In our rapidly changing world, it’s essential to arm our children with a holistic education. Excursions serve as powerful tools to ignite a love for learning in our youngsters. Preschool outings in Singapore aren’t mere sightseeing trips; they’re meticulously crafted educational experiences. Why does this matter?

Consider that field trips function like an engaging, immersive classroom. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Hands-on Learning : Preschool excursions provide an opportunity for direct, hands-on learning. Little ones can touch, feel, listen, and observe, helping them absorb information more effectively.
  • Social Interaction : Field trips allow students to interact with others, which is vital for developing their interpersonal skills.
  • Real-world Context : By applying the lessons taught at school to real-world scenarios, excursions make learning more relatable and engaging.

Unique museums, nature parks, and other entertainment venues make exploring and learning fun for the little ones. We’re talking about curated routes that introduce them to art, science, nature, and culture—all in a single journey! Having variety in excursion options aids in building a strong educational foundation for our children. They stimulate young minds, fostering a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.

planning safe and enjoyable daytrips in singapore

When executing a preschool excursion in Singapore, there are vital aspects to bear in mind. Safety , education , and fun should not just coexist; they must interweave, enhancing and balancing each other for an enriching learning journey.

Rigorous Safety Measures

Wherever our excursions take us, safety remains our top concern. We ensure to uphold rigorous safety measures, which include standard precautions like wearing safety gear and carrying first aid kits. We adhere strictly to teacher-child ratios and conduct regular headcounts, ensuring every little adventurer is always within sight. Traffic rules and park regulations are strictly followed during our preschool field trip in Singapore.

Curriculum Integration

Field trips like those to Sembawang Park or Lower Seletar Reservoir Park enhance classroom learning with real-world experiences. Symbolic representation, sensory processing, and understanding of the natural and built world form part of their excursion-based learning journey.

Environmental Education

Field trips to places like Yishun Park offer children an opportunity to appreciate and understand their environment. They witness firsthand the significance of trees, plants, and varied ecosystems. These preschool field trips in Singapore kindle an early love for nature, sparking discussions about conservation, biodiversity, and sustainability.

Social Skills Development

A preschool excursion is a fantastic opportunity for children to develop social skills. As they wander through fascinating parks and reservoirs, they’re not just discovering fascinating flora and fauna; they’re also learning how to navigate group dynamics, turn-taking, sharing, and developing empathy—essential life skills that form the bedrock of their future relationships.

Discovering Local Wildlife

Exploring local wildlife is more than just fun; it’s a hands-on education. Children can observe animals such as monitor lizards, otters, and various bird species in either their natural habitats or in Singapore Zoo, providing them with direct insight into different species and their environments.

Flora Exploration

Flora exploration is more than just digging in the dirt. Whether meandering through Yishun Park’s lush greenery or under Sembawang’s expansive branches, excursions to these places allow children to delve into nature’s wonders. Children also gain knowledge about different plant species, their significance, and their uses.

Preschool Field Trip to the Singapore Zoo

Kids easily learn through activities and observation. This is why field trips and outdoor explorations are important specially for early learners. At home we always encourage our kid to experience active learning as we know the benefits of such.My kid was lucky to join with his Preschool Field trip to the Singapore Zoo and it was a fantastic opportunity for him as an early learner!

Preschool Field trip to the Singapore Zoo

Last week we had a fun day at the Singapore zoo. That was my kid’s first ever school field trip. His preschool teachers organized a field trip to the Singapore zoo. This is why we like the new preschool .Now our kid’s preschool days are full of different activities and experiences which also improves his social skills.

My kid has visited the Singapore zoo 3 times during the last year as family trips . However a preschool field trip is a great way to spend his day with teachers and friends. So we decided to join our kid to visit the zoo again. And of course, I visited the zoo again for the 5 th or 6 th time! 🙂

Preschool Field trip to the Singapore Zoo

However, Singapore zoo is always an exciting place to visit. It looks natural and attractive. With preschool kids, I really had a great time.

For my kid, it was an exciting day. He packed his bag with field trip essentials including snacks, hat and raincoat before he went to the bed. On the day of the field trip, he woke up early and was really excited. The bus ride with his preschool friends was an unforgettable experience for him. 🙂

Preschool Field trip to the Singapore Zoo

Other than watching the animals around the zoo, teachers planned to watch some animal shows during the field trip. It was exciting for the kids. But after the first animal show, my kid showed signs of tiredness. Light snacks were always helpful for me to keep him active. 🙂

Preschool Field trip to the Singapore Zoo

A tram ride around the zoo was exciting. He could watch his most favourite animal, the Lion!He also loved to see elephants!

Other than watching animals and their behavior, kids also learned to share and to spend the time together. At the end of the day, kids looked tired but still talkative and playful!

Do you like such field trips?

I can see the kids are having fun! Field trip is one of the activities that I am excited about when my son starts schooling. He’s 3 yrs old now and we’re planning to enroll him for the next school year. Field trips aren’t just for students to learn but also for their parents to enjoy. I enjoyed field trips when I was young.

Wow, this is truly something every parent should embrace. I also have had this experienced when I was still in pre-school. It is always the best to let the children engage with nature and animals, since this will help then understand the presence of nature in our life. I’m sure the kids were very elated while traipsing their feet and ambling around the Zoo. I haven’t been to Singapore and I’ll surely visit this place soon. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.

I believe a zoo is one of the most ideal places for kids to learn about their environment and many other things. I could see friendship further develops there. Curiosity is answered as well as appreciation for God’s creation.

A trip to the zoo is always my favorite. My little one loves animals and it is always fascinating to see these beautiful creations upclose! Kids will also learn a lot in a trip to the zoo or any animal sanctuary in the city. I bet your little one had a might fine time! 😀

This is so much fun! My daughter always wanted to visit the zoo. Seeing big animals in real life is part of her dream! Bringing kids to the zoo i s one way to help the kids appreciate life and God.

the children look super cute in their uniforms and backpacks 🙂 kudos to the school for choosing this place for children’s amusement plus learning! i wish zoos in manila would be as clean and well-maintained as the ones in sg 🙂

Wow, I’m sure the kids had a great time visiting the zoo. I am really very much into this kind of activities, that children will really see by themselves actual animals and not just on books 🙂

School trips are always the most interesting and exciting moments for the kids. They are not only socializing but also learning a great deal of things. This is the time when they are like little sponges, and they soak up everything they see, hear and touch. The accent is on their senses, so in order to teach a child something, you need to activate his senses. And what better opportunity for teaching is than organizing a short trip? I am sure these kids have learned a lot from that day and plus, they had a memorable time. 🙂

I agree. School trips are so important for learning and to allow kids to form friendships with their classmates. It looks like they had a fun day! This zoo seems like a really good one!

this is actually my most favorite part when i was in preschool… i love field trips as it gives you a chance to enjoy and explore the place while learning something from the trip at the same time! Your kid surely had a great blast from this wonderful trip in Singapore zoo

This is one of the best activities for any school kid. I enjoyed mine and I love seeing my kids enjoy them. Wonderful zoo, I have been there. A good place to learn about animals.

20 Engaging and Educational Field Trip Ideas for Preschoolers

educational field trip ideas for preschoolers

Field trips are momentous times in a preschooler’s life. Preschool field trips allow children to enjoy a change of scenery and spend time outside the classroom doing more hands-on learning.

In addition to the memories children create on field trips, they’re a valuable opportunity for educators to reinforce lessons. With the right planning and preparation, field trips for children can be an engaging, educational day for all involved.

Why are preschool field trips important?

Field trips are more than extra-curricular activities. They can be an integral part of a child’s early education. Preschool field trips afford many substantial benefits for children:

Broadens their education

Children are exposed to only so much in a classroom setting. Field trips allow children to get a richer picture of educational subjects by observing them outside of books, lessons, or videos.

Exposure to real-life experiences

In preschool, children are developing their understanding of life and the world around them. Field trips expose them to everyday life in a setting where their teacher can help them connect what they’re learning to what happens in the real places in their community. Experiential learning (authentic, first-hand, sensory-based learning) through field trips is a way for children to reflect on and apply their new knowledge.

Research shows academic improvement

Studies support the idea that field trips have real effects on a child’s education. Field trips are linked to improvements in academic performance. According to a study on youth educational trips by the Wagner Group and the U.S. Travel Association, adults who took educational trips when they were younger…

  • Had better grades (59% of study respondents)
  • Graduated from high school at a higher rate (95% of study respondents)
  • Reported that educational trips had a positive impact on their education (89% of study respondents)

Expands their world

Field trips allow all children to experience more of the world. Whether they live in a busy city or a rural town, field trips introduce children to experiences and environments they may not have access to otherwise. Preschool teachers have the opportunity to make a child’s world a little larger with each field trip and show them new places, people, and adventures.

How to plan and prepare for preschool field trips

A lot of preparation goes into a successful field trip. For teachers and administrators, there are people, places, and schedules to coordinate weeks or months in advance.

Consider the below areas as you plan your trip:

Teaching moments

Sometimes preschool field trips are planned around a specific topic the class has been covering. Sometimes trips are simply a good learning opportunity that you’ll weave a lesson into. No matter which scenario you’re in as a teacher, it’s helpful to have your notes and activities prepared in advance.

How many adult chaperones will you need for the field trip? When you’re planning field trips for kids, it’s crucial to have a confirmed, appropriate number of chaperones based on the number of children attending.

You can request family volunteers or set up a rotating schedule so families can plan ahead. Consider offering incentives like free lunches or gift cards and remind them it’s a great opportunity to have a meaningful experience with their child and get to know the other children and families in your program.

Plan to bring extra snacks in case meal times run late. Prepare to answer questions from parents about whether to pack a lunch or work out an eating arrangement at the field trip location. If you'll be serving meals on the field trip, prepare the food before and determine how you will transport it. Consider packing a cooler for any perishable foods that need to be kept cold, and pack plenty of water if there is no water available at your destination.

Transportation

Some preschool policies require that school vehicles are used for field trips. Before the trip, determine transportation needs, such as how many vans or buses will be needed and if parents are permitted to drive.

If there’s a cost associated with the trip, how will you secure funds from the school or handle payments from parents? Use your communication platforms to alert parents of any expenses they’ll need to cover as far in advance as possible.

Sometimes drop-off and pick-up schedules can be impacted by field trips. Create an agenda and itinerary that shows where the class will be and breaks down how long you’ll be at each location. This helps parents plan their day and gives school administration information they would need in an emergency.

If any children have medication, medical equipment, or anything else that needs to be on hand for them, it needs to be accounted for in field trip planning. Bring any health and safety documents such as an accurate roster to count the children and emergency contact information. Teachers should also pack first aid kits and antibacterial hand wipes if there is no access to clean running water on your trip.

Families' participation on field trips is a great way to include them in the curriculum and share a day in the life of the class. Check out our calendar template to keep families up-to-date with all major school events and spark new ideas for family engagement year-round.

Field trip safety tips

Taking young children on a field trip can be an overwhelming experience without the right preparation. Field trips are very exciting, so be aware that the children may have extra energy or be more distracted. To have a fun, safe, and smooth trip, focus on safety measures before and during the excursion.

Before the field trip

  • Review the schedule with the children and tell them what to expect
  • Give children safety guidelines and procedures to follow
  • Assign pairs or small groups for headcount checks
  • Involve children in checking the field trip supply checklist
  • Instruct children to wear bright clothes or a certain color to make them easy to spot
  • Prepare and bring a first aid kit

  During the field trip

  • Do headcount checks frequently and always before leaving or entering any location
  • Follow pedestrian rules carefully when walking such as using sidewalks and crosswalks and only crossing the street when traffic signals say it is safe
  • For traveling by bus or van, check every seat before exiting
  • Ensure children understand and follow the security and safety measures of the field trip location
  • Continue practicing basic hygiene, such as washing hands or using hand wipes before eating
  • Keep a copy of emergency contact lists with you at all times
  • Take bathroom breaks together as a group

Field trip ideas for preschoolers

Choosing where to take the children in your preschool class is one of the most exciting parts of field trip planning. Here are 20 engaging and educational field trip ideas for preschoolers:

Apple orchards and pumpkin patches can show children how these foods are grown and offer a truly hands-on education as they pick their own.

Nature walk

Nature walks are an educational adventure that allow children to discover various plants, leaves, critters, and trees. It’s also great physical activity!

Farmer’s markets

A field trip to the local farmer’s market or grocery store can be an opportunity to teach children lessons about nutrition and where their food comes from.

Many children’s books are full of stories and illustrations of sea creatures, so the aquarium is sure to be a hit with preschoolers. They’ll get a chance to see these creatures up close and learn more about them.

A local bakery is another food-focused field trip that supports a small business and allows children to see how some of their favorite sweet treats are created.

Zoos are a common preschool class favorite! Children can visit and hear facts about a wide variety of animals, including birds, mammals, and reptiles.

Local library

Libraries are often a familiar place for young children, but a preschool field trip to the library gives children a chance to learn details about what a librarian does and the many types of books available to them.

Fire station

Preschoolers tend to love fire trucks. Use a field trip to a fire station to teach them about the work that happens behind the scenes and age-appropriate fire safety tips.

Local events

Sometimes the best educational events don’t need to be booked—they’re already happening in your community! From holiday celebrations and parades to the annual fair, local events can provide children with a wealth of learning opportunities.

Farmers have so much they can teach young children, from lessons about the way food is grown to how the animals are raised.

Children’s museum

Museums that cater specifically to young children are educational and interactive places that are ideal for preschool field trips. They also tend to change exhibits regularly, which means they’re a great choice for multiple trips.

Home improvement store

Show children how chairs, tables, and other items they use on a daily basis are built. Another way to do this is to find a local builder with a small shop who’s willing to give a workshop tour and demonstration.

If you have a child-friendly state park nearby, they make excellent field trip destinations. State parks are a beautiful place to teach about the great outdoors and ways to protect and respect our planet.

Recycling center

Teach children the importance of recycling and how everyday items like plastic water bottles and aluminum soda cans are recycled.

Local ponds are perfect for a low-cost, science and nature focused field trip. They’re often home to frogs, ducks, and aquatic plants, making great lesson topics for preschool children.

Around town scavenger hunt

Teach children about where they live with a scavenger hunt in your community. Downtown areas are usually ideal locations for this field trip activity.

Expose children to the performing arts with a preschool field trip to the local theater. This trip can teach them about storytelling on the stage, theater etiquette, and stage acting as a career.

Train station

Learning about different types of transportation expands children’s minds and view of the world. Add in a train ride to make it both engaging and educational!

Botanical garden

Botanical gardens are a stunning environment to teach children about the beauty of nature and various types of plant life.

Historic monuments

A field trip to an age-appropriate historic site can provide early lessons on important historical figures and events.

Post-field trip actions and education

Get the most out of your day away from the classroom by following up with children and their families after your field trip. Parents will appreciate knowing what their children learned and children will get a chance to relive the best moments of their trip.

To update families, consider including a brief summary of your field trip in your preschool newsletter . Ask children to share their favorite parts of the trip and include photos!

Plan a memorable outing

There are plenty of details to consider and plan when it comes to executing preschool field trips. Taking a trip is a great opportunity for educators to build upon everything their children are learning in the classroom and engage them in hands-on, memorable experiences.
