Cereal Mascots

What do you want for christmas (vintage toy commercials), friday the 13th in umbros, vintage video game commercials, the shamrock shake – march mcmadness, warped tour 2007 review.

Well, it’s time for my 3rd annual review of the Warped Tour. This is the 12th year I’ve been to the Warped tour. So, you can say I’m kind of a fan of the genre of music they offer. I’m still going to have to say that the one I went to in 1996 was my favorite. It was the first time I saw my favorite band, NOFX. Also playing that year was Unwritten Law, Pennywise, Fishbone, Goldfinger, Guttermouth, The Deftones, Rocket From the Crypt.

Anyway, that was back 11 years ago. Today, I’m talking about the 2007 Warped Tour.

Here’s the lineup of the bands. Yeah, someone’s head got in the way, dammit! Anyway, there was 2 other stages that weren’t listed their huge inflatable schedule. This year I wasn’t going to originally go. My friends Josh & Lori talked me into going because they were taking Lori’s 12 year old sister and her friend. There weren’t that many bands that I really wanted to see this year. The bands I wanted to see were The Matches, Bad Religion, The Unseen, & Sum 41. All of those bands I’ve seen numerous times before, except for Sum 41. I never saw Sum 41, so I thought it’d be kind of neat to see them.

The first band I saw was Pepper . Josh commented that they looked pretty grungy. It appeared they haven’t showered in a few weeks. We stuck around to see a few songs. They weren’t bad, but it was something like 105 degrees outside. Plus, the humidity in St. Louis is horrible, especially in August. I like their hit song, “No Control”. But, they’re other stuff, I can take it or leave it.

The next band we checked out was The Fabulous Rudies . They were a fun little ska band. I think it’s okay to like ska again. haha.. During the late 90s when it became popular, it was hell going to a ska show. Jocko assholes were knocking over people with their fists. While all the rude boys & girls were just trying to skank. Now, its back to the underground days again. I like to skank, its the one dance I can actually do. Of course, you look ridiculous doing it at a wedding reception. Anyway, I enjoyed this band. They were pretty good. They did have a song about Richard Gere that was kinda strange. But, I liked ’em.

While downing bottles of water or powerade, we decided to watch a little skateboarding. It’s always fun. I still am upset that they don’t have as many ramps as they once did. They use to have a bmx show, motocross show, & skateboarders. Now it’s a tiny little pipe, that a few local skaters get to skate on. Later, there was a bmx guy on the half pipe. What was most fun was watching the 10 year olds skate. They were really good, and I guess since they’re short, it’s easier for them to do tricks.

I could never skate. I always wanted to. But, I couldn’t get the concept of an ollie. I just don’t have the coordination I guess. Most people’s skateboards were all scratched up and abused. My board looks like it’s in mint condition. I still have an old hookups board I bought about 10 years ago, that I rode about 5 times. I think I was more into the skateboard type music: The punk/hc/ska scene.

While watching the skateboarders I glanced over to see a ring. They actually had Mexican Wrestling. It was so bizarre. There was an announcer that spoke in spanish. If you heard his announcing style, you would of thought it was the most exciting thing ever. I actually found it rather boring. Their goofy outfits were kind of cool, but I just couldn’t get into it. I guess the heat just killed me.

The next band we saw was Revolution Mother . At least, I think that’s what the band name was. This band was pretty bad. I’m sure they have lots of dedicated fans. But, to me, they sounded like crap. I just can’t get into a band that has to scream every note. There were lots of bands like that, and most of them I just past right up. I guess I just don’t get it.

I look at my watch and thought, oh shit!, I’m missing Tiger Army ! They’re actually a band I really like, but have never gotten a chance to see. They’ve been at a couple other warped tours that I’ve been too, but it always seems that they play at 12:30, before I get to the show. Anyway, I got there in time to see about 2 1/2 songs. They were great. They’ve just got a really good sound. The rockobillly/psychobilly sound is close to a Reverend Horton Heat sound, but with a horror / misfits twist. They somehow spawned out of the band AFI.

We walked over to watch The Unseen . I’m a fan of there music. We got over there to hear their cover of Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones. We probably caught about 5 of their songs. They played my favorite song, “Scream Out”. They’re basically an good old punk band. Yeah, they do a lot of screaming, but it’s melodic. So, I can dig it.

Since it was so freakin hot, we sat in the only shady stage to watch a band that none of us ever heard of. They were called Meg and Dia . They actually weren’t bad. They were a band with 2 girls, kinda reminded me of the Dance Hall Crashers. They were pretty mellow, they even played a cover of Blind Melon’s hit, “No Rain”. The energizer bunny joined them on stage. The poor guy or girl who was in the costume must of been frying.

About this time, we caught up with the 2 kiddies. They looked about dead. They said they didn’t want to stick around to see Red Jumpsuit Apperatus & Hawthorne Heights (damn emo kids!), which is who they were waiting for. It was going to be another 4 hours for them to play. So we decided to leave. I was happy, because I had enough of the blazing heat.

On the way out, we caught a song or 2 from Sum 41 . I didn’t think they were too bad. Josh said they sounded like shit. But, I would have liked to stay a little longer to check out their set. Of course, everyone and their mother was over at that stage. It was packed. I’d say about 60% of the people that came to the warped tour were there.

So we left… and we went to my favorite place, Dave & Busters !

So, we ate some appetizers, and got some much needed beer! For those that don’t know, Dave & Busters is kind of like a Chuck E Cheese, for Adults. You get a “power card” which is basically a credit card. You buy a bunch of credits to put on the card. Then, every game in the place has little card swipes to play.

They have video games there. Tons of them. But, what we usually try to play is the ticket winning games.

The ones that seem to give us the most tickets are the ones where you drop a coin in, and you try to push all the other coins off the ledge. For each coin that falls off the ledge you get 8 tickets.

I can’t remember how many tickets I ended up with. But, I think it was something like 950. They have a huge prize shop, where you get to pick out tons of prizes. This time, I got myself a dave & busters mug & some sour candy. I had tickets leftover, but I couldn’t decide what else to get.

So, there’ you have it. My warped tour turned into a dave & busters trip. It was a fun day. I’m glad we got to end the day in a nice air-conditioned place.

Greg – i never actually went to a warp tour but it didn’t sound like it was that good! lol. Skating was never my thing either…I wiped out on my rollerblades and I get scared shitless on a skateboard. I’ve always heard Dave and Busters was great but I haven’t had the chance to check it out. It sounds like fun thought.

Jay – It all depends on the lineup of bands & the weather. I’ve been into the punk music since I was in high school. But, warped tour has gone way down hill. Maybe I’m just getting older, or maybe my tastes have changed. I guess the bands that I’m into can’t play every year.

I love Dave & Busters. It’s funny, though, there’s actually a casino across the street. But, I’d rather goto D&B. I usually end up spending less, and I have a stuffed bart simpson doll or something to take home with me. haha

I enjoy Meg & Dia — and I just went to a Dave & Buster’s a couple weeks ago for a friend’s bachelor party. It’s pretty cool, but expensive, and pales in comparison to the mighty DisneyQuest.

wassup, im seriously feeling your site but i cant click on the other links. You might wanna check your site in IE 8 cuz you know that browser acts up sometimes.:)

Epitaph Records Dominates the 2007 Warped Tour

Bad Religion, Tiger Army, Pennywise and Gallows To Play Warped Tour's Main stage, With The Unseen, Escape The Fate, The Matches, I Am Ghost and Parkway Drive Set To Rock The Side Stages

Indie label Epitaph Records will rock the masses this summer at The 2007 Warped Tour with an unprecedented lineup featuring nine of the biggest and freshest acts in punk rock, screamo, pop-punk, hardcore, metalcore and psychobilly. The label's extraordinary lineup will include main stage performers Bad Religion, Tiger Army, Pennywise and Gallows with Escape The Fate, The Unseen, The Matches, I Am Ghost and Parkway Drive holding down the side stages. America's longest-running touring festival will kick off in Pomona, Calif. on June 29th and culminate full-circle in Los Angeles, Calif. on August 25th. The complete lineup and routing can be found at www.warpedtour.com .

Punk-rock veterans BAD RELIGION will headline Warp's traveling circus in support of the group's forthcoming album New Maps of Hell, which is set for release on July 10th. Warped attendees will get the first listen, when the group tears through sets featuring fan favs and new tracks such as the hit single "Honest Goodbye" and instant punk classic "New Dark Ages." Produced by Joe Barresi (Tool, Queens of the Stone Age), New Maps of Hell melds intense blistering riffs, lush harmonies and furiously charged beats for the group's most aggressively heartfelt journey yet.

Pyschobilly's premier rock trio, TIGER ARMY, make their main stage debut this summer where they plan to unveil songs from their latest album Music From Regions Beyond. Produced by Jerry Finn (AFI, Morrissey, Rancid), the record fuses the group's classic pyschobilly sound with dark wave synth and rock for one of 2007's 'most anticipated albums' (Alternative Press). Counting a guest appearance by AFI's Davey Havok on the radio hit "Forever Fades Away," the band's fourth album is scheduled for a June 5th release via Hellcat Records.

No stranger to Warp's main stage, PENNYWISE will make their 8th appearance at this year's tour (June 29 - July 25; August 17 - 25). Known for their highly energetic live shows, Pennywise will shred the crowd with their signature brand of So-Cal skate punk. From the classic punk anthem "Bro Hymn" to the anarchistic hit "Fuck the Authority" their set will be a must see.

U.K. based punk group GALLOWS will take Warped by storm this summer leaving a trail of blood and fans strewn across the U.S. Touted by British press as being "the most exciting punk to emerge from Britain since The Clash," (Kerrang!) the freshman act have been given the rare shot at the main stage based on their unparalleled live show and ferocious hardcore style. "I'm here to tell you Punk is back and its new name is Gallows," says Epitaph owner and founder Brett Gurewitz. With plans to unleash their debut album Orchestra of Wolves on July 10th, the Gallows are plotting a punk rock revolution with an arsenal of snarling lyrics and brutally discordant riffs that will sucker-punch any unsuspecting concert-goer leaving them bruised, beaten and begging for more.

The swaggering Las Vegas-based hard rock/screamo outfit ESCAPE THE FATE return to rip this year's side stage after an incendiary stint on the 2006 Warped Tour. ETF continues to support its strongly-received Epitaph debut, Dying Is Your Latest Fashion, which encompasses the true essence of rock n roll through its unwavering ambition and inexorable passion with thematic elements of death, love and the lack thereof.

Experimental pop rockers THE MATCHES will bring their contagious set to Warp's side stage this summer. As one of the tour's most anticipated acts, the group emits a quirky style and an inimitable sound with influences ranging from 80's rock to Power-Pop as heard on their 2006 fan favorite Decomposer. The album's ingenious multi-producer (Jon Feldmann, Mark Hoppus, Tim Armstrong, Brett Gurewitz) format is "capable of sneaking under the skin of enough skeptics to make the band rock stars" (Alternative Press).

California-based dark rock sextet, I AM GHOST resume support of their current album, Lover's Requiem, on Warp's side stage this summer (June 29 - July 15). Championed by Outburn for their "dynamic montage of all the modern heavy and agro styles, touching on punk, hardcore, emo, thrash and goth," I Am Ghost boast blistering riffs, symphonic violins and super-tight arrangements for a metallic orchestra of surreal melody.

Massachusetts-based street punk wrecking machines THE UNSEEN will split their time between the main stage and side stage in support of their upcoming release Internal Salvation on July 10th. Known for their DIY attitude, anti-gaud style and hardcore tendencies, The Unseen use a hostile concoction of thrashing riffs, aggressive harmonies and defiant vocals to separate them from the pack making them one of the most genuine acts on the tour.

Last but certainly not least, rising Australian metalcore quintet PARKWAY DRIVE will bring their bone-crushing live show to Warped Tour from July 7th through August 12th. Specializing in an amalgam of hardcore, metal and hardcore subgenres, the group plans to whip fans in to a pit of fury with their brutal breakdowns, blazing riffs and death grunts. Parkway Drive recently re-teamed with producer Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) for their forthcoming Horizons, which is slated for an October 9th release.

Thanks in great part to Epitaph's rousing lineup, this year's Warped Tour promises to be the best in years. Don't forget to bring your water bottles...and your mouth guard. For details, dates and full lineup please visit www.epitaph.com or www.warpedtour.com .

When an event has been around for 13 years, it's usually time to shake things up. And while Ozzfest chose to do that by going free, the Vans Warped tour opted to piece together one of its most diverse rosters to date. While not a metal tour, it does feature a hand full of heavier metalcore and screamo bands, most notably Norma Jean, As I Lay Dying, Funeral For A Friend, Haste The Day, Parkway Drive, and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster.

The tour, which will kick off June 28 at Chula Vista, California's Coors Amphitheater, is currently slated to play 45 shows through an August 25 date in Los Angeles with a lineup that includes Coheed and Cambria, Bad Religion, New Found Glory, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Cute Is What We Aim For, Bayside and Canadian rapper K-os.

Among the other groups that will be on the road with Warped all summer are Amber Pacific, Circa Survive, Tiger Army, Escape the Fate, Hot Rod Circuit, Big D and the Kids Table, Paramore, Gallows, the Matches, the Fabulous Rudies, Meg and Dia, All Time Low, Bleed the Dream, the Unseen, Spill Canvas, Evaline, Bless the Fall, Boys Like Girls, My American Heart, Vincent Black Shadow, Throw the Fight and Pepper.

Tour founder Kevin Lyman said he had plenty of options to choose from when putting together the roster. "We received over 4,000 submissions, so in booking the tour this year I felt that a diverse lineup was in order," he said in a press release announcing the dates. "The tour has always been a place to explore and discover new music. This year's lineup has old school, emo, punk, screamo, hip-hop, more ska than you have seen in a long time and everything in between. If you're open-minded, this will be a great show."

Members of the online Warped community will get their annual shot at Internet presale tickets starting April 1, where they'll be offered a ticket and a copy of the Warped Tour double-disc compilation for $19.99.

Among the other acts scheduled to play select dates are: A Static Lullaby, the Actual, Agent Orange, Alesana, Alkaline Trio, the Almost, Anberlin, As Cities Burn, As I Lay Dying, the Automatic, Biffy Clyro, the Briefs, the Briggs, Buck O Nine, Cinematic Sunrise, the Confession, the Dear and Departed, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Envy on the Coast, the Fall of Troy, Family Force 5, Fishbone, Flogging Molly, the Fold, Funeral for a Friend, the Graduate, Haste the Day, Hawthorne Heights, Human Abstract, I Am Ghost, Madina Lake, Mayday Parade, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, New Year's Day, Norma Jean, Parkway Drive, Pennywise, Pistolita, Play Radio Play, POS, Poison the Well, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Set Your Goals, So They Say, the Starting Line, Straylight Run, Supernova, the Toasters, Underoath, the Used, Valencia, The Vandals and Yellowcard.

More bands and dates are expected to be added in coming months.

Wow. I feel sorry for Bad Religion. They're the only good band here, stuck all summer with all of these sh**ty bands. I'd rather go see Freefest, obviously.

2. metalthekid writes:

Pennywise, As I Lay Dying, Human Abstract, maybe Norma Jean. Only good bands there

If you have scars on your wrists, YOU are the targeted demographic for this tour. The people who would attend a show like this have a pathetic f***ing hopeless mindset. The only year I even CONSIDERED going to the Warped Tour was the year when the Offspring headlined. I'm not gonne lie, they're my guilty pleasure.

7. crazedmind writes:

i like the metalcore and screamo bands this year, like underoath, parkway drive, a static lulaby, FFAF. but some good ones such as as i lay and norma jean arent even playimg all the dates. ill still go, but its more of a punk show this year. i guess thats what warped is all about though anyways.

8. a12ctic writes:

this is a piss in the face to metalcore fans, why would norma jean even agree to be on such a piss-poor line up....

9. Skript writes:

Only good band on that lineup is Parkway drive

10. Hayden Graham writes:

The line up kicks ass. theres a good variety. For the people that don't like it, get over yourself and stop b****ing about it. ITS AWESOME

11. AK47 writes:

F**K YOU ALL AND THE ONLY GOOD BAND ON HERE IS AS I LAY DYING AND IF YOU DONT LIKE EM THEN WHO CARES!

12. BodomBastard writes:

14. LiquidMetal77 writes:

15. matt writes:

flogging molly sucks, i like 90% of the bands on this tour,....good line up for me

16. steveo writes:

90% of the comments and the people that are leaving them suck!!grow the f*** up and dont speak down on bands you know nothing of.

17. Marissa writes:

bah. i'll admit the line is pretty bad. no fftl and norma jean <;3 isn't at my tour. I'm still going. I think people need to stfu about it. Your obviously not going to like every band. SUCK IT UP xD

18. Valentine_no_more writes:

FUKK YEAH!!!!!!!!!

19. StabbingTheDrama writes:

I hate when people leave comments thinking that they know everyone. "don't speak down on bands you know nothing of" If we don't like a band there's a f***ing reason for it dumbass.

20. dan writes:

when theres bands i dont like, i just take a nap. besides, theres plenty of other things to do at tours like that

21. slayerdisciple writes:

damn this is an emo persons dream come true, why cant i get a black metal tour with extreme quality to come to the US, o well just hand out knives at the beginning of each show and prepare for suicide

22. Angry Mob Justice writes:

I'm going to make a fortune sitting outside this show selling razor blades to all the emo kids.

23. Stephen writes:

Selling razor blades at the Warped Tour. That's a damned business goldmine. And a f***ing funny idea. Just tell the kids that the blade you're selling is the one the guy from New Found Glory used on himself when he was 12 and you'll make a fortune.

HORNS DOWN! /w\ /w\

24. slayerdisciple writes:

i know im gonna do that at the VA beach date i cant believe no one thought of it before

25. AK47 writes:

AS I LAY DYING IS STILL THE ONLY GOOD BAND HERE AND I FEEL SORRY FOR THEM!

26. pacifront83 writes:

too bad their arent a good amount of hardcore punk bands playing, but then again all the fans would call them a bunch of "sell- outs". I heard their has always been hot a$$ girls their? But im looking forward to sounds of the Underground, hope fully that ell be toight
