How to Take a Day Trip to Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

The Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island is an entire tropical world unto itself. This Bahamian resort boasts casinos, underwater shark walks, and frolicking dolphins. As one of the most famous hotels in the Bahamas , the Atlantis also boasts multiple hotel towers and specific resort sections to accommodate a wide variety of guests' every wish. But, you don’t need to be a guest at the resort to visit this mega-resort. In fact, millions of visitors to Nassau take a quick taxi or water-shuttle ride to experience the resort's casinos and restaurants. From information on the top attractions to details about how to get there (and which day pass to reserve), read on for your ultimate guide to day-tripping to Atlantis Paradise Island.

Attractions and Things to Do at Atlantis Paradise Island

There are 85 gaming tables, 21 restaurants, and 19 bars and lounges at Atlantis Paradise Island. However, while throwing down some cash on the craps tables or roulette wheel may satisfy some visitors, others—especially families—are drawn to the Atlantis' aquatic allure; specifically the resort's spectacular "lost world" themed water park, dolphin encounter program, beaches, and the underground mysteries of The Dig, a walk-through exploration of the Lost City of Atlantis. Day tickets for all of these activities can be purchased at Discover Atlantis Sales Centers located throughout the property.

Given the hordes of visitors to the Atlantis daily, it's not surprising that the resort limits access to some of these attractions—notably the Aquaventure pool and water park area—to preserve a premier experience for hotel guests. However, that does not mean that day-trippers can't visit the Atlantis attractions, including Aquaventure; you'll have to pay a bit for the privilege (and expect a significant markup on these prices if you buy through a cruise line).

  • Dolphin Cay at Atlantis: Day visitors can swim and play with Atlantic bottlenose dolphins at the state-of-the-art, 14-acre habitat.
  • Discover Atlantis Tour: This tour is best known to day-trippers, in part because it is sold as an excursion on cruise ships. Expert "Navigators" guide visitors through the ancient city streets of Atlantis during a visit to "The Dig," a faux-but-believable archaeological exploration of an 11,000-year-old lost continent. The attraction is full of interesting artifacts, along with great water effects and glimpses of exotic sea life, including piranha, moon jellyfish, venomous lionfish, and a resident manta ray. A Discover Atlantis Tour wristband allows visitors to explore The Dig and its exhibits as well as the Ruins, Predator, and Water’s Edge Lagoons—but not the waterpark.
  • Atlantis Beach Day: The Atlantis Beach Day program provides all-day access to the Atlantis resort's exclusive white sandy beaches, with lounge chairs and towels provided. It also includes access to marine habitats and lunch at an outside venue.
  • Atlantis Aquaventure Package : Day-trippers can purchase an Atlantis Aquaventure package that provides all-day access to pools, beaches, and Aquaventure, a 141-acre waterscape containing over 20 million gallons of water with water slides, and a mile-long river ride with high-intensity rapids and wave surges. The passes are only available to guests staying at partners of the Atlantis Resort. They can be purchased (on a restricted basis) at the Atlantis Adventures Desk at the clock tower in front of The Coral.

How to Get There

Paradise Island (formerly Hog Island) is a 685-acre island off the northern coast of Nassau, the capital of the island of New Providence. There is no public transport to take you to Paradise Island—the local bus system, the "jitney," will only take you as far as the ferry terminal, so your best bet is either to take a ferry or a taxi.

To access Paradise Island by water, hop aboard a 15-minute ferry ride from Nassau to Paradise Island. The ferry departs from Nassau Cruise Port from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and costs $3 for a one-way ticket. On your boat ride to Paradise Island, a guide will also give you a brief history lesson of the island and its many attractions. Once you've arrived on Paradise Island, it's a 10-minute walk from the ferry dock to Marina Village in Atlantis.

If you decide to rent a car, note that there is limited free parking available on Paradise Island (and limited spots are found near the public beach). The best alternative is to valet your vehicle at the cost of $16.75 per day. Whether you're driving or opting for a taxi, be prepared to pay the northbound one-way $1 bridge toll. In taxis, this will be on top of your metered fare—and the average cost for a one-way trip from Lynden Pindling International Airport to Paradise Island is about $35. Another alternative is to be dropped off along the coast of New Providence to walk across the bridge (an activity that is toll-free). Once you've arrived on the island, there's no need to rent a car, as visitors can easily walk the grounds and explore everything the hotel has to offer on foot.

Day passes are mandatory for all non-hotel guests at the Atlantis to experience Dolphin Cay, the waterpark, the marine habitat, and the beaches. The passes can be purchased (on a restricted basis) at the Atlantis Adventures desk, situated at the clock tower at The Coral. These passes have been known to sell out, so it's imperative to book online in advance. World Travel Holdings also sells day passes to Aquaventure, Atlantis Dolphin Cay, and the iconic British Colonial Hilton. These passes are marketed primarily to cruise visitors but can be an excellent add-on for anyone visiting Nassau.

  • The Aquaventure pass includes admission to Aquaventure and The Dig, lounge chairs, and towels.
  • Dolphin Cay experiences include a shallow-water interaction with dolphins.
  • The British Colonial Hilton pass includes all-day access to the resort's pristine private beach and pool, snorkeling and kayaking, lounge chairs and towels, and a food and beverage credit.

Tips for Visitors

  • There's more to Paradise Island than just the Atlantis, so be sure to explore the rest of the island. We suggest hiking to the Nassau lighthouse for gorgeous seaside views along the coast. Of all the waterpark attractions, the underwater shark walk is not to be missed—imagine a turquoise tunnel full of predators. (It's as scary and thrilling as it sounds).
  • There is no visitor information center in Paradise Island, so make sure to consult downtown the tourist information available for visitors in downtown Nassau.
  • If you're planning on staying for dinnertime, make a reservation in advance, as restaurants can become busy, especially in the colder months. Additionally, the resort will limit attractions during the peak busy season to preserve hotel guests' experience—a hindrance that won't be an issue for you if you're visiting during the off-season. If you're visiting in the off-season (summer and fall), expect fewer crowds—for the waterslides and the bars and restaurants, alike.
  • If you're taking the ferry to Paradise Island, remember to bring cash. Although exact change isn't necessary, it's helpful as you will be expected to tip your tour guides, who provide colorful commentary and historical insight into the past and present-day iterations of Nassau and Paradise Island.

Visit Atlantis Bahamas: Tips & Tricks You Need To Know

April 26, 2022.

Our family had an amazing Spring Break trip to Atlantis, Bahamas. It’s our second time visiting the beautiful Paradise Island (the first trip was pre-covid ) and I wanted to share some tips & tricks to help you with your future Atlantis, Bahamas vacation plans. I’m gonna start with a quick FAQ about travel requirements so that you can determine whether or not the destination is a good fit for your family, then we will get into the planning details. Also giving the tea on Airbnbs in Bahamas…

Current Bahamas Covid health + travel requirements.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Do yo need the Covid vaccine to travel to the Bahamas?

No, as of April 2022 the vaccine is not required. However any adults and children over 12 will need to provide a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of their scheduled travel date. Children under 12 are allowed to submit results from a rapid antigen test. All tests have to be through a verified lab. Home test results are not accepted. We did our tests at our local Walgreens. Click here for the most current Bahamas travel requirements and restrictions.

You will also have to test prior to returning to the states but most of the resorts have on site testing that are accepted by the airlines.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Do you need a Bahamas Travel Health Visa?

Yes, you do. As of April 2022 you will need a Bahamas travel health visa for each member of your family/trip party. The process is fairly simple to apply and you have to submit your negative Covid results as a part of the approval process (whether you are vaccinated or not). You won’t be allowed to enter the country/board your flight without and approved Visa.

The Bahamas travel health visa cost was $60 per person over age 12, so factored that into your budget. Click here to register and apply for your visa.

Do you have to wear masks while in the Bahamas?

Yes, yes you do when in public spaces (in the Airport and on flights as well). Removal was fine when in places like the beach/pool or while dining of course.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Do you need a passport to visit the Bahamas?

Yes, all family member will need a passport to enter the Bahamas. Start early to give yourself enough lead time so that they are ordered and delivered prior to your trip. If you currently have a passport be sure that it doesn’t expire within 6 months of your scheduled trip or you wont be permitted to enter. Now, let’s get to the FUN stuff…

Where to stay in Atlantis, Bahamas?

Whether you choose hotel or Airbnbs in Bahamas depends on your family style or vacation preference. We booked our latest trip at the last minute, so the flight prices were crazy and the hotel prices even crazier. James is vegan and our kids are picky eaters so we didn’t think the all-inclusive route would be worth the price tag. Airbnbs in the Bahamas was the way to go for both of our trips, each rental was located on Paradise Island (where Atlantis is).

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Our Airbnbs in Bahamas were in a suite of villas that was an 7 min walk from the Atlantis resort. The location. has a restaurant located at the entrance, multiple pools and private beach access. We were also able to rent beach chairs/umbrella from local islanders for about $40 a day right outside of our Bahamas Airbnb.

When booking with AirBnb we try to stick to super hosts but if one isn’t available I’m okay with trusting 5 or more recent reviews (within last 6 months). If you have questions, ask. A good host is more than happy to answer any questions to help minimize confusion.

If you’re 100% prefer hotels over Airbnbs in Bahamas our top hotel choices are below. You can find deals/discounted rates when you use a service like Priceline or Tripadvisor.

The major benefit of going the hotel route is not having find alternate covid testing sites for the return trip home.

Things to do in Atlantis, Bahamas?

If you are staying directly at the Atlantis resort access to amenities are all inclusive. They offer a ton of family friendly activities both indoors and out. The have a marine habitat with over 50k animals and you can book to swim with dolphins/sting rays or even release baby turtles. Their Aquaventure Waterpark, Atlantis water park featuring 18 water slides for kids 48 inches or taller, “river rides” for preschool-aged children and older, and 20 swimming areas. The resort also has 4 private beaches, a game room, a movie theatre (perfect for rainy days) and so much more.

How to access the Atlantis Resort + Aquaventure Waterpark if you are staying in a private rental?

For those doing private rentals you have two options to access the Atlantis resort. You can get Atlantis day passes starting at $125 per child and $250 per adult. However we went a more budget friendly route for both of our trips.

The Comfort Inn Suites Paradise Island is located right next to the Atlantis resort and booking a stay with them grants access to the Atlantis property (water park, marine habitat and beaches). This is a great hotel choice if you’re not a resort snob btw. Booking a 3 night stay, will give you 4 days of access to the Atlantis resort (same access that the Atlantis day passes would). Let’s do the math, shall we?

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Four Atlantis day passes directly from the resort will cost about $2850 for 4 days of access. A three night stay in 2 bedroom suite at the Comfort Inn Paradise Island is roughly $1120 for those same four days of access. The fact that the Comfort Inn offers free breakfast and free covid testing for your return trip only sweetens the deal. So booking the Comfort Inn for Atlantis Day passes is absolutely the budget friendly win here. You do have to fully check into the hotel to get access to the Atlantis day passes. I did take a peak at the room to see how clean they were but we didn’t actually stay/sleep there.

Visiting Aquaventure Waterpark

The Atlantis property is huge so it’s helpful to grab a map. The Aquaventerure water park is on the furthest end of the property. There is a separate check-in process for Aquaventure alone, there they give you wrist bands and towel access so you don’t need to lug those around. They have lockers for rent to secure your phones and/or cameras too.

PRO TIP: Go to the water park early morning or late afternoon to secure chairs and avoid crowds. If you do go mid day, slide the pool attendants a good tip and they will secure a batch of chairs for you and the family. If you really want to splurge y ou can reserve private Cabanas in advance.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Of course visiting the beach (we did 3 beach days and 2 water park days). Our Airbnb provided a few sand toys but you can also buy them from one of the local shops on Paradise Island or bring them with you. If you have older children or are into water sports the island locals offered everything from jet skiing to parasailing to catamaran rides right on the beach behind where our Airbnb was located.

With the exception of a few restaurants we didn’t explore much beyond Paradise Island, so let’s talk dining options.

Where to eat in Atlantis, Bahamas?

Go to the grocery story first. You’ll thank me later. In a family full of picky eaters a grocery store run was imperative. We stopped before heading to our rental to grab breakfast foods, nonperishable snacks and the ever beloved PB &J. Our rental had a grill so we also grabbed hamburgers and hotdogs for a simple dinner (which came in handy the one night it rained cats & dogs). James is vegan (insert eye roll) so we bought a bunch of his favorite snacks in advance and packed them in a carry on suitcase. A guy has gotta have his seaweed right?

Our plan was to do breakfast at the rental (or Comfort Inn). Pack sandwiches for lunch at the beach or pool and then go out for dinner to help keep the food costs down. We stuck to this for the most part although we did end up ordering poolside lunch at the waterpark two days. All the walking and playing in the sun made the kids extra hungry.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

If you aren’t able to taxi to the store for any reason they do have grocery delivery services on Paradise Island too. Expect for the groceries to be more expensive than they are here in the states. I haven’t seen prices like that since we lived in California. Even still, it was cheaper than doing a restaurant 3 meals a day for a family of five.

Family Friendly Restaurant Options In Atlantis, Bahamas

The Atlantis resort and surrounding properties have tons of restaurants to choose from. Quite a few of them take reservations and fill up pretty quickly so I would make dinner reservations in advance.

Special Family Dinner:

Chopstix or Cafe Martinique (both of these are located on Atlantis)

Casual Dinner Options:

Carmines, Frankies Gone Bananas, Murrays Deli and Lagoon Bar & Grill (lunch only). As well as Crusoe’s Restaurant (located at Comfort Inn) and Violas (located at the Sunrise Beach Resort); all are walking distance from the Atlantis property.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Off Resort Dining Options:

Fish Fry, Poop Deck, Baha Mar, Twin Brothers, Latitudes or Cafe Jonny Canoe and Margaritavilla. Also there is a Carribean spot “under the bridge”, the bridge that you take to get over to Paradise Island. You have to use a taxi to get to any of these locations so your driver will know exactly where you mean.

Tripadvisors restaurant reviews/ratings have never failed us when traveling, so feel free to look any/all of these places up before giving them a trip.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

As with any trip you want it to be a trip of a life time. While photos and videos to capture those memories are important, remember to take time each day or full days to really live in the moment with your loved ones. Anyone thinking of going to the Bahamas soon? If so, I hope these tips are super helpful in making your trip a great one!

Beautiful family and trip! You stayed at both the Air Bnb and Comfort Inn or did you just booked CI for the passes and whatnot? Or half the week at one and half week at the other. Please clarify.

Hi Chantae! Thanks so much and sorry that wasn’t clear. Confirming that we stayed at the Bahamas Airbnb the entire trip. We did have to fully check in to the Comfort Inn but only used them for the Atlantis day passes, free breakfast and covid testing to return home.

Nice Post!!

It’s a wonderful post. It’s very conducive for us. Types of posts have been searching by me. An article about post had been red by me some days ago. But article is better than post

Woman watching the ocean Atlantis Bahamas

We recently spent a week in The Bahamas to celebrate our baby girl’s second birthday and it was nothing short of spectacular! The famous Atlantis Bahamas is the first place that came to my mind when we considered vacationing in The Bahamas. We are not resort people but this trip was all about relaxing and giving fun experiences for our baby girl and I knew that Atlantis Bahamas would be a perfect choice.

Atlantis Bahamas is a huge resort (even for resort standards) with several hotels to choose from, numerous restaurants to dine at, multiple activities to do while there and took a lot of planning. I did a lot of research to plan this trip and was not disappointed! Here is an honest review of our week long stay at Atlantis Bahamas and a comprehensive travel guide to help you decide which hotel/tower to stay at Atlantis Bahamas , where to eat in and around Atlantis Bahamas, activities for kids and adults at Atlantis and some useful tips and recommendations to make your stay eventful and stress free!

Cove beach and Cove hotel Atlantis Bahamas

An honest review – ATLANTIS BAHAMAS

Atlantis is a world-class resort located on Paradise Island in Bahamas and is known for its famous Aquaventure waterpark, white sand beaches, turquoise waters, amazing restaurants, casino and more. It was built in 1998 (25 years ago) and cost an estimated $900 million dollars to build. Atlantis Bahamas has everything you can think of (and more) and is a city in itself. In fact, you do not need to venture off the island! I have included as much information as I could in this guide to help you choose the best hotel, save on food, activities and finally my review of Atlantis Bahamas and if it is worth staying.

Is Atlantis Bahamas worth staying?

The Royal Towers Atlantis Bahamas

THE COVE AT ATLANTIS

Royal Towers Atlantis Bahamas

If you ask me if ATLANTIS BAHAMAS is worth staying – my answer is absolutely, yes!! Atlantis Bahamas is worth staying if you are looking for a relaxing vacation with lots of activities for kids and adults. There is something to do for every age group at ATLANTIS BAHAMAS and I think it is perfect vacation spot whether you are looking for fun family time, a couples getaway or a group trip with friends. The aquapark, beaches, casino, shopping, golf course, fine dining, marine habitat and Marina Village make it an absolutely fun place to stay and we (especially our two year old) had the best time for her birthday!

I highly recommend staying at ATLANTIS BAHAMAS . I would advise you to set your expectations regarding the food, expenses and choose your hotel wisely. Be prepared to spend a bit more than expected as I mentioned above and you will have a blast!

Tips and recommendations for your stay at Atlantis Bahamas

The Cove pool area Atlantis Bahamas

  • Make sure you book your accommodation and activities well in advance as they are quite popular and can get sold out quickly.
  • The resort is quite large and can be overwhelming to get around for first timers. Download a map of Atlantis or the app to orient yourselves.
  • The food is EXPENSIVE! If you plan to dine three times a day or have kids who need snacks and are hungry often, I highly recommend a trip to the grocery store and liquor store to save some $$.
  • Make use of the free shuttles that run every 5-10 minutes between various hotels, the Marina Village and The Four Seasons. Taxis are also available at each hotel/tower if you would like to take a trip to Nassau Downtown or elsewhere.
  • Pack all the summer essentials – sunscreen, hat, tote bag, flip flops and sun dresses.
  • US dollars are accepted everywhere and the Bahamian dollar is the same value as USD. Carry change or exchange notes either at the airport. Atlantis Bahamas is a cash free resort and you cannot get cash or change at the resort. And you would need enough cash to tip the staff and for taxi fares.
  • The Bahamas in general and Atlantis are very expensive as they import most of the goods. Be prepared to spend top $$$ on everything.
  • There are many free activities to do at Atlantis Bahamas. Take advantage of all the fun and free things to do before indulging in other experiences.
  • If you are a hotel guest, you get a wristband for the duration of your stay that allows you access to the waterpark, pools and other facilities.
  • There are sundries available at each of the hotels to buy snacks, sunscreen and other essentials.
  • Your keycard not only gives you access to your room but can also be used at the casino and restaurants as a credit card. Keep it handy and you don’t have to carry your credit cards.

Getting to and around Atlantis Bahamas

Atlantis is about 30 min drive away from the closest airport – Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) in Nassau. You have an option to either take a taxi or shuttle to Atlantis. You can also take a ferry from Nassau Downtown to Paradise Island. After the long flight, I recommend a taxi and the fare usually ranges from $40 – $60 USD.

Getting around Atlantis Bahamas

Don’t worry about getting around the resort. The resort offers multiple shuttles between the different towers/hotels, to/from The Marina Village, Golf Course and The Four Seasons resort. The shuttles are convenient and fun and our whole family enjoyed riding in them!

Taxis are readily available if you would like to venture off of Paradise Island to Nassau Downtown or elsewhere. Make sure you have enough cash for the fare plus tip.

You could take a fun ferry ride from Paradise Island to Nassau Downtown as well. Boat tours are also available to other islands like Exumas and Blue Lagoon.

Which hotel to stay in Atlantis Bahamas?

The reef at atlantis.

Choosing the right hotel to stay at Atlantis Bahamas can get overwhelming but also the most important step to make your stay enjoyable. There are 5 different hotels to choose from with different amenities. The choice of the hotel is based on your preferences whether you are looking for a romantic couples’ only space or a family friendly one with a kitchenette. This section breaks down the different hotel options and amenities available and a review of the hotels at Atlantis Bahamas.

The Royal at Atlantis Bahamas

The Royal Towers Atlantis Bahamas

This is the flagship tower of Atlantis Bahamas that is featured in all the photos of Atlantis Bahamas. It is central to all the main attractions including the aquaventure park, casino, and has multiple restaurants like Nobu, Olives to name a few. The Royal as the name suggests makes you feel like royalty but it is also one of the oldest and quite dated. We noticed that there is no bell service at The Royal and it can get quite crowded and noisy.

The Cove at Atlantis Bahamas

Lobby at The Cove Atlantis Bahamas

The cove is the most luxurious of all the hotels at Atlantis Bahamas and offers chic, contemporary accommodations with ocean views, private balconies, and access to an exclusive pool. The hotel also has a large adults only pool and has a small casino. There are several restaurants including The Fish, Sea Glass and Fresca. The lobby and the views from The Cove are incredible and this is an ideal hotel for a romantic couples stay. This was also my favorite hotel at Atlantis and it is the most expensive of all.

The Reef at Atlantis Bahamas

Cove beach Atlantis Bahamas

This is where we stayed as it came with sweeping views of the ocean similar to The Cove but also a kitchenette. As we traveled with a toddler, we wanted a kitchenette for a quick early breakfast or snack before heading out and The Reef was perfect for that. I also liked that they have bell service and the elevators are a quick walk from the lobby unlike The Royal towers. The Reef has a couple of pools (including a kids pool) and a private beach shared with The Cove guests. There is a Starbucks which gets super busy in the morning. I also liked that there is no Casino at the Reef and is perfect for families.

The Coral at Atlantis Bahamas

The Coral is an updated mid-range hotel and has its own pool and a lazy river. It is quite close to The Marina Village and the multiple restaurants there. It is a great choice if you’d like to stay close to The Marina Village.

Harborside Resort at Atlantis Bahamas

Harborside resort Atlantis Bahamas

The Harborside comprises residential style villas with fully equipped kitchen, laundry and faces the Marina. These villas would be perfect for families with multiple kids and intending to cook or looking for spacious accommodation.

Activities to do in Atlantis Bahamas for kids and adults

Cove beach at Atlantis Bahamas

  • Beaches:  The beaches here are something else! Staying at Atlantis gives you access to stunning private as well as public beaches. The turquoise waters and white sand will make you feel right at paradise. The guests at The Reef and The Cove have exclusive access to Cove beach. I found it to be more peaceful and pleasant.

Splash pool Aquaventure Park Atlantis Bahamas

Aquaventure Waterpark:  This famous waterpark is one of the main reasons people visit Atlantis. It is one of the biggest and most exciting water parks in the world offering thrilling water slides, a not-so-lazy river, splash pools for kids and a replica of a Mayan temple. We had a lot of fun here exploring the waterpark and participating in the rides. Access to waterpark is free for resort guests.

  • Relax by the pools:  What better way to spend your holiday morning than reading a book by the pool and watching your baby girl play in the water? That was what we did every day. 🙂 There are multiple pools at each hotel and are accompanied by restaurants and shacks to order food.
  • Walk and Explore: I suggest taking the shuttle bus to each hotel and walk around to orient yourselves first. There is so much to see and do at the resort and the best way to explore is to walk.
  • Marine Habitat: Explore an underwater world with more than 50,000 sea creatures, including sharks, rays, and exotic fish. You will find many of these at The Dig and scattered all around the resort. Pay good attention to water bodies wherever you find them as you may find turtles or manta rays. 🙂 They also let you feed different dish during different times of the day.

The Dig Aquarium Atlantis Bahamas

The Dig: The Dig is the highlight of our trip to Atlantis Bahamas. It is a large marine exhibit at The Royal and runs through the Aquaventure Water Park. My little one had lots of fun watching the stingrays, fish, lobsters and other sea creatures swim. We went there every day to watch the fish.

  • Paradise Lagoon water sports: The paradise lagoon at The Royal tower offers many different water activities like SUP, kayaking, pedal boating. You need to pay for the rental though.
  • Snorkel/Scuba diving the ruins: One can also snorkel or scuba dive the ruins at Atlantis. We’ve seen some kids and adults snorkeling and scuba diving. I had considered snorkeling but after seeing how cloudy the water was, I decided to give it a pass. Please bear that in mind if you plan to take kids snorkeling.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Marina Village: Marina Village is an outdoor shopping area with local stores, restaurants, ice cream shops and more. It is bustling with people and music at night and fun for every age group. We found that the restaurants here are less expensive and tastier than the ones at the resort. This was our spot every evening and you MUST try to conch salad at McKenzie’s Conch Shack and the seafood at Anthony’s.

  • Dolphin Cay: You can swim with dolphins in a natural lagoon and learn about these intelligent creatures. Make sure you reserve ahead of time.
  • Casino: Try your luck at gambling at one of the slot machines or gaming tables at the casino.
  • Golf: Enjoy a round of golf at the Ocean Club Golf Course.

Four Seasons Bahamas

Dune at The Ocean Club: Take advantage of the shuttle bus that goes to The Four Seasons to enjoy a brunch or lunch at  The Dune. Make sure you reserve way ahead for lunch or dinner. The property and the grounds are beautiful to walk around.

  • Spa time at Mandara: Enjoy a relaxing massage or facial at Mandara Spa. Make sure you schedule ahead of your arrival!
  • Shopping: If you are itching to spend more money, you are welcome to shop at the high end stores at The Royal or Marina Village. 😉
  • Cooking classes/fun activities for kids (without parents): Atlantis offers cooking classes, fun activities and arcades for kids. Parents can enjoy a romantic dinner while kids have fun at the play centers.
  • Nightlife: Experience the vibrant nightlife at Atlantis, with live music, DJs, and a range of bars and nightclubs.

Where to eat in and around Atlantis Bahamas?

Atlantis Bahamas offers over 20 restaurants and dining options in multiple price ranges and tastes. Some of the most popular dining options include Nobu, Fish by José Andrés, Olives and Café Martinique. There are multiple restaurants at Marina Village as well.

Fish by Jose Andres Atlantis Bahamas

A few things to note about dining at Atlantis Bahamas

  • If you are planning to indulge in fine dining, make sure you make the reservations well in advance (like at least a month)! I did not do that and all the fine dining restaurants were booked! Fortunately, some restaurants like Nobu allow walk-ins in the lounge and patio areas. Thanks to my husband, we were able to dine at Nobu (twice!) even without a reservation.
  • Try restaurants at The Marina Village for better food options.
  • Head to Fish Fry if you would like to eat where the locals eat!
  • One good thing about Atlantis Bahamas is that drinking water is free! Water canisters are provided and one can refill at the multiple stations throughout the resort.

Is food at Altantis expensive and worth the price?

  • If you wish to save some $$$ on food, get some groceries and liquor at a local store.
  • We found the food at the poolside restaurants and mid-range ones at Atlantis Bahamas to be mediocre at best. Avoid them and take your snacks with you. The food at fine restaurants like Nobu, Olives and Fish was delicious!!
  • Seafood entrees range between $40-$70 and breakfast fare was $20-40. 15% gratuity is added to the bill.

Atlantis Bahamas -A review of our favorite restaurants

What’s not to like about the famous Nobu chain of restaurants? We went there twice during our stay and the food did not disappoint. The service was fast as well. Our favorites were the miso black cod, wagyu, tuna with crispy rice and rock shrimp tempura. I loved the sake but the cocktails were meh! We absolutely loved the lava cake and green tea dessert! As I wrote above, if you cannot find reservations, go directly at 5pm and check for availability at the lounge or patio. It worked both times for us!

This was another hit and a favorite. The focaccia and olive combo that was complimentary was delicious! We loved the garlic spinach, the caprese and the seafood entrees.

Fish by José Andrés

We dined here for breakfast multiple times and it was so good! We loved the benedicts and my favorite was the Bahamian boiled fish. It was so simple yet delicious – a must try in The Bahamas!

There is a Starbucks at The Reef for a quick coffee or breakfast.

Marina Village restaurants to try

If you visit Marina Village, you MUST try the conch salad (both traditional and tropical) at McKenzie’s Conch Shack. Anthony’s across from Marina Village is great for seafood. There is also a Dunkin’ Donuts right next to it.

Other restaurants in Marina Village that we found to be busy were Carmine’s, Cafe Martinique, Burger Shack, Marina Pizza and Ben and Jerry’s.

LOCAL DELICACIES of The Bahamas that you must try!

Conch salad.

Conch is an edible sea creature that is unique to The Caribbean Islands and famous in The Bahamas, Turk and Caicos. It is loaded with vitamins and nutrients. The first time we had the conch salad was in Providenciales in Turks and Caicos and loved it so much. We were so glad to have found it again in The Bahamas. The conch salad at McKenzie’s Conch Shack in Marina Village was incredible and a must try. Even our toddler loved the salad.

Conch fritters

Conch fritters are another delicacy made with conch and a great option if you’d like to try conch but not the raw version.

Bahamian boiled fish

A local said that Bahamians eat stewed/boiled fish for breakfast and fried/grilled for lunch and dinner. We had the boiled Bahamian grouper with grits and it was so delicious. It looks simple but tastes heavenly!

Traditional Bahamian boiled fish

Restaurants at Fish Fry

This is an area with multiple restaurants frequented by locals and the food here is delicious and much less expensive. We had the conch fritters, fish fry (obivously!) and grilled fish at Oh! Andros and they were all yum. All the entrees were accompanied by peas and rice, plantains, cole slaw and other sides that were equally good.

Grilled fish at Oh! Andros Nassau

Local beer like Kalik and Sands are popular in The Bahamas and are worth a try.

Final thoughts and Review – Bahamas Atlantis

Atlantis Bahamas is a great hotel for visitors seeking a blend of adventure, relaxation, and luxury. With its world-class amenities, including the iconic waterpark, diverse dining options, and stunning beaches, Atlantis offers an experience that caters to all ages and interests. If you are looking for family friendly hotel, choose your stay at The Reef or Harborside . If you are looking for a romantic stay, I highly recommend The Cove . Atlantis Bahamas is not just a vacation; it’s an adventure into a world of wonders, making it a truly worthwhile stay.

Gorgeous photos! From your article the Atlantis Bahamas sounds like a lovely place to stay. As a foodie I love how you discussed the local delicacies. Thanks for sharing your experience!

' src=

Hi there. We also have a little one that just turned two. Can you share more about the babysitting or kids club options that they have? I noticed you went to dinner a few times. That sounds wonderful!!

' src=

Hi, thanks for reading and hope you enjoy your stay! Regarding your question, we didn’t take advantage of any of the babysitting services. The kids club I believe is only for kids aged 3 or above. We wanted to send her there but couldn’t. Our daughter loves going to restaurants so didn’t really look for any babysitting services. Although we didn’t use it, one of the guests we talked to mentioned that they had a good experience. Make sure you ask questions and also state your requirements beforehand. Little ones love it there. 🙂

Atlantis Tips, Tricks and Secrets

This post contains affiliate program links. Meaning that, if you click on one or more of the product links I will receive a commission, if you make a purchase. This is no extra cost to you. Additional (yet, very boring ) details here . Thank you for helping me to support this blog!

We have been fortunate enough to visit Atlantis , Paradise Island, Bahamas, twice, and have learned so many different tips, tricks and secrets while planning and on our amazing vacations.

Below are all of the insights that I like to share with family and friends that are going to (or interested in going to) Atlantis.

Looking for must have items for your trip to paradise, check out my post on essential items to pack for your trip to Atlantis.

Use points for your stay

Atlantis is part of the Marriott Autograph Collection Hotels and you can currently use points for your stay at some of the Atlantis hotels (we used Marriott Bonvoy points at The Royal during our stay). Bonus is that if you stay 4 nights utilizing Marriott Bonvoy points, the fifth night is “free.”

We have done this, and it is a great way to save money and use those hard earned rewards points!

There are several fees/taxes in addition to the room rate

Be sure to factor these fees when planning your vacation (and check to see if there are any hotel specific/other fees/taxes):

  • VAT (taxes) – the rate was 12% during our stay and was added to all purchases, the resort fee, room rate, meals, etc.
  • Gratuity – we found the gratuity of 15% to be automatically added to meals, and we were charged $20 per night at check out for “Royal Gratuity”
  • Water park access (water slides, and 2 river rides…one lazy and one not so lazy)
  • 11 swimming pools/swimming areas ( 2 of the pools/swimming areas are reserved areas)
  • Paradise Lagoon
  • Predator’s Lagoon
  • Fitness center
  • Movie theatre
  • Marine Habitats
  • Beach towels
  • 2 bottled waters per night

Towels are provided

There’s no need to bring towels from home. They are available in abundance at one of the stands. We got towels both for the beach and the waterpark daily.

Bring lots and lots (and did I say lots) of sunscreen

We went through 5 bottles of sunscreen and probably could have/would have used another if we had it. Don’t risk sunburn by not putting on enough sunscreen and don’t break the bank by buying it onsite (the bottles were over $25 each).

Check out my post on What To Pack for Atlantis

Check the Atlantis website for deals

We were able to score an awesome deal on the dolphin encounter and the meal plan the first time we visited by signing up for the emails.

Look up the cruise ship schedules for the port of Nassau

This is a great way to plan your beach vs. water park days and times. The cruise ship passengers often book Atlantis excursions with options for the water park and/or the beaches. Knowing when there will be more cruise ship passengers helped when making our daily plans.

Dolphin encounter

This can be expensive, but my daughter really wanted to have this experience. I was able to find an awesome deal online that included a shallow water experience with the dolphins and kayaking. It was well worth it (and I found a great deal/promotion on the website), and a very unique experience.

Plan you transportation to and from the airport and the resort ahead of time

Not a fan of waiting for others to fill-up a shuttle prior to heading off to the resort or airport, take private transportation.

There are many different options, however, we have used Cheryl Bahamas Taxi twice, and highly recommend them. For a small fee, they will also make a grocery stop.

Food, Beverage, and Dinning Options

Stop for groceries.

Some items that we picked-up included bottled waters (the resort fee includes 2 bottles of water per night, but for 4 people in the sun, it is definitely not enough), bread, peanut butter, jelly, bananas, apples, cream for coffee (the rooms have coffee makers), crackers, small package of disposable plates and napkins.

This is a great way to have some of the comforts of home, save some (a lot) of money, and please any picky eaters!

The rooms have coffee makers

This is way a great (and affordable) way to start the day.

I personally NEED creamer in my coffee, and therefore a stop at the grocery store was a must.

Bring a collapsible cooler

We used this collapsible cooler last time and it was great.

We filled it with ice from the hotel’s ice machine and then added waters and the other items that needed refrigeration. They stayed cold for over 24 hours at a time (a slight inconvenience to drain and fill daily, but I’ll do anything for some cream in my coffee).

If you are staying at The Reef, the rooms have refrigerators. I did find out that you can rent a refrigerator from the resort (The Royal) for a daily fee (I heard various reports on the price, but they were $15-$20 a night).

The collapsible cooler that we brought was less than $30 and is portable, and is great for taking to the beach and pool…bonus!

Consider the meal plan

There are several factors to consider when deciding on whether to get the meal plan. You will need to crunch the numbers to see if it makes sense.

If you have children 6 and under, it might makes sense, as currently, children this age eat free with paid adults.

The first time we went to Atlantis, they had a special offer where children 11 and under ate free with paid adults and we purchased the plan. This ended up being a great deal for us!

We are all good eaters (including the kids), and we found that having the meal plan more than paid for itself.

Don’t forget about the buffet

Many of the restaurants require reservations. Having to make reservations in advance was difficult as we were unsure of when our days would start and end.

Having the option of eating the buffet for breakfast and/or dinner was such a relief. There were so many options and different live preparation stations each night.

We ate at Poseidon’s Table a few times for breakfast and dinner (we did enjoy Sunday brunch during our last vacation here).

This is a great choice for picky eaters as well!

Family style/affordable dining is available

Many of the dining options are family style and we found the following to be not only affordable (for Atlantis standards), but also tasty:

Marina Pizza – Large pizza and salad was less than $60.00

Kid’s meals – most of the dining options at Atlantis offer kid’s meals as well. We found these to be convenient and affordable (especially by the pool areas at lunch time), and portions sizes were perfect.

Offsite dining – while there is off-site dining options, we did not leave the property. We talked to several people that went to Margaritaville (walking distance), and The Fish Fry (requires taxi or type of transportation), and they enjoyed their meals at off-resort prices.

Bring an insulated cup with a lid

This is a lifesaver!

Anyone say hot COFFEE in the morning, and then cold adult beverages in the afternoon (well, maybe not quite afternoon, but at least after coffee).

Insulated cups are a great way to keep water and other beverages cold for the whole family while at the beach and waterpark.

Resort and Surrounding Area

While known for the aquaventure water park, the beaches are beautiful and shouldn’t be missed.

We spent a lot of our time at the beach.

We enjoyed our time at two different beaches, the more intimate Cove Beach and the busier Atlantis Beach.

Both were great and had their own benefits.

The Cove Beach has beautiful blue water with minimal waves/movement, chairs (many with sunshades), and great snorkeling areas.

The Atlantis Beach also has chairs (but very few with sunshades….however, the first time we were there, there were vendors that rented umbrellas), is busier, has vendors (like hair braiders), but my family really enjoys the fact that there are small waves, more fish, and the water is crystal blue.

Both beaches are amazing….it is the Bahamas after all!

Hair braiding is available on the Atlantis Beach by private vendors

My daughter loves to get her hair braided and looks forward to this when going on vacation.

I needed cash to pay, and did negotiate. I was able to negotiate the price by 30% and still felt good about the price paid and the service received.

Kid’s clubs

The resort has kids clubs for kids and teens.

When we were there, they had daily open house so you and your kids can check it out before going. We stopped by and it seemed like fun, but the kids did not end up going (we were all too tired by the end of the night!).

The casino reminds me of Las Vegas (which I love), but much more quaint and with a resort feel.

We participated in the slot tournament and it was super fun and quite the rush. We found the information in the Atlantean (which we picked-up in the lobby each day).

There is an underground tunnel between the hotels

Strangely, on our first visit, we did not go past the Marina outdoors, and the Casino while indoors.

During our second visit, we discovered that The Coral and The Beach are connected to the Casino (and therefore The Royal) by tunnels.

This was a great way to explore the other hotels and their amenities. The kid’s clubs, shops, theatre, dining, and many other amenities are in these hotels.

Check out my post on The Atlantis Resort

See awesome marine life at The Dig

Is an underground area that is home to beautiful marine life exhibits.

Somehow, we missed this great amenity on our first trip. It was such a hit this time that we visited it 3 times.

The kids (and I) particularly enjoyed staring at the eels and jellyfish….so cool!

Private Cabanas

We have not rented a private cabana, however, they seemed to be very well positioned and nice.

Be prepared to walk

Be prepared, you, and any little feet in tow, will be walking…a lot! There are shuttles between the different properties, but once in the waterpark and exploring within the main attractions, being prepared to walk is essential.

Shuttle between the various parts of the resort

There is a shuttle between the different parts of the resort.

We did not use the shuttle, however, I’m sure that it can come in handy for some families, especially those with young children, the elderly (the young at heart), and those with mobility issues.

There are so many benefits to planning ahead for your trip to Atlantis, and knowing as many tips, tricks, and secrets!

Yes, it can be expensive, but knowing these tips and tricks prior to your trip will help you get the most out of your budget and time so you can enjoy paradise with your family.

You can’t go wrong with a trip to Atlantis!

Atlantis Paradise Island Travel Guide

The iconic Royal Towers at Atlantis Bahamas

With eleven pools, more than 30 restaurants, a huge water park, five miles of white sand beach, and more than 3,000 guest rooms, Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas is a vacation destination with something for everyone. From adults-only areas to kid-friendly fun , the resort is designed to appeal to guests of all ages and offers plenty of opportunities for relaxation and recreation.

Getting Situated: Where is Atlantis Resort?

Set on the lush tropical Paradise Island, Atlantis Resort has the peaceful feeling of being a bit secluded from the rest of Nassau while still being within a ten-minute drive of the Nassau cruise ship port, the Pirates of Nassau museum, the historical Fort Montague, and the Queen’s Staircase. Stretching five miles long and about a mile wide, Paradise Island is also home to the Paradise Island Golf Course and the Nassau Harbour Lighthouse, and several additional beaches.

Atlantis Resort is approximately a 20-minute drive from Nassau Lynden Pindling International Airport. Airport transfers are available directly through the resort, with options ranging from a shared shuttle to private car service. Guests arriving in Nassau by cruise ship can take a taxi from the cruise port or a ferry from the terminal near the port that docks at the Atlantis’ Harbourside Resort.

Regular taxis and rental cars are available at the airport, but rideshare options like Uber and Lyft are not available in the Bahamas.

Guests arriving by boat will appreciate the luxurious Atlantis Marina, which offers direct access to Nassau Harbour and slips for everything from sailboats to mega-yachts.

Checking in: The Best Atlantis Hotel for Every Traveler

The Atlantis Resort is made up of five different hotels , each with its own personality, price point, and benefits.

The Royal at Atlantis occupies the iconic arch-shaped building that comes to mind when one pictures the Atlantis and features design inspired by the mythological lost city and a convenient central location.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Atlantis Bahamas (@atlantisbahamas)

The Royal is home to the sprawling Atlantis Casino , Mandara Spa, the serene Royal Baths Pool, The Dig aquarium, the popular Poseidon’s Throne photo spot , and some of the resort’s best restaurants, making it an ideal choice for those who want to be close to everything.

Surrounded by private beaches, The Cove at Atlantis offers elegant all-suite accommodations with floor-to-ceiling ocean views, an adults-only pool, and a free shuttle to other parts of the resort.

Set just across the marina from the rest of the Atlantis Resort, Harborside Resort offers a bit more peace and quiet than some of the other hotels, but it is a bit farther from the beaches and other activities. Harborside’s secluded seaside villas with full kitchens and laundry facilities that make it perfect for guests who want all the comforts of home while on vacation.

Designed with family travel in mind, The Coral at Atlantis is generally the most budget-friendly option, but it still boasts great amenities like a full balcony in every room and a pool area with cozy cabanas, a swim-up bar, and a separate children’s pool.

The Reef at Atlantis invites guests to make themselves at home in residential-inspired studios and suites with comfortable living rooms and either a kitchenette or a full kitchen. The hotel features a zero-entry pool and a peaceful setting on the edge of the resort that results in picturesque views from many of the rooms.

No matter which Atlantis Resort hotel you choose, you’ll have access to plenty of family-friendly amenities including in-room babysitting, but staying at The Coral or The Royal puts you in close proximity to the best variety.

The Kids Concierge in The Coral lobby offers everything from custom itinerary planning to stroller rentals to children’s menus from all of the on-site restaurants.

At Coral Towers, teens ages 13-17 can meet new friends in their own nightclub equipped with pool tables, a dance floor with live DJs, a floor-to-ceiling video game wall, board games, and a snack bar.

The Atlantis Kid Adventures Club , located at The Royal, offers a huge range of activities for young guests ranging from talent shows to pirate parties, plus themed play rooms designed specifically for different age groups.

When it comes to family-friendly rooms, there is a wide variety to choose from at The Atlantis. The Reef, The Royal, and The Coral all have two-bedroom family suites that can comfortably accommodate up to eight people thanks to a sleeper sofa in the living room, making them an ideal choice for those who want a nice mix of privacy and shared space with their travel companions.

For a more “home away from home” feeling, families can reserve a Deluxe Villa at the Harborside Resort to enjoy the convenience of a full kitchen that makes it easy to prepare a family meal or keep kid-friendly snacks on hand.

The Cove offers the feeling of a chic boutique hotel and is a popular choice for adults who want a more upscale experience while visiting The Atlantis. One of its biggest selling points is an adults-only pool , which is only open to Cove guests and is an oasis of relaxation and entertainment with private cabanas, live DJs, and casino games.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Cove Atlantis (@thecoveatlantis)

While The Royal generally caters to guests of all ages, it does offer some of the resort’s most opulent suites that would be ideal for a once-in-a-lifetime romantic getaway , such as the legendary ten-room ocean view Bridge Suite, which features a separate service entrance for its seven dedicated staff members, which include a butler and a chef.

While the Atlantis Resort is not fully all-inclusive, it’s considered a “full-service resort” with a daily resort fee that covers admission to the water park, reusable water bottles, access to the fitness centers, entrance to the marine habitats, and shuttles between the resort hotels. All-inclusive packages are occasionally available during select times of the year, and dining plans are sometimes available for hassle-free meal experiences.

The resort usually has a minimum stay length of two to four nights depending on the time of year, but with so much to do on-site, filling those days is never a problem.

Having Fun: Top Activities at Atlantis Resort

A combined total of five miles of soft white sand beaches surround the Atlantis Resort. Four private, swimmable beaches are available for guest use, offering the option of trying out a different spot each day of your stay. The serene crescent-shaped Cove Beach is perfect for those who want to enjoy the tranquil turquoise water or stretch out on the soft sand, while Paradise Lagoon Beach is more active, with water sports, kid-friendly snorkeling areas, and paddleboarding. Located in front of The Coral, Atlantis Beach is spacious and action-packed thanks to its prime central location. Reserved for guests of The Reef and The Cove, Paradise Beach is a bit smaller and more secluded, making it the perfect place to stretch out on a padded lounge chair with a good book.

Not only is there a water park at Atlantis Paradise Island, but it’s considered to be one of the resort’s main attractions! The Mayan-themed Aquaventure Water Park offers activities designed for all ages, from the thrilling 200-foot body slide into a cenote to Splashers Island, where kids can enjoy water cannons, climbing nets, and small slides.

In the unique Serpent Slide, guests can float through a clear tunnel surrounded by marine life, while the open-air Jungle Slide zips through lush foliage and cool caves. Water park admission is included with any Atlantis Resort stay.

The Casino at Atlantis Paradise Island Boasting more than 700 slot machines and 85 gaming tables, the Atlantis Casino is equally suited to seasoned gamblers and guests who just want to try their luck on the latest games. Choose from blackjack, craps, baccarat, roulette, and Texas Hold’em, or try your luck with horse racing and sports betting in self-serve kiosks.

Dolphin Cay Known as the Caribbean’s premier marine animal rehabilitation facility, Dolphin Cay at the Atlantis Resort is home to dolphins and sea lions that were relocated here when they were displaced by Hurricane Katrina. This aquatic attraction gives guests the rare opportunity to interact with dolphins in a variety of ways, from classic dolphin swims to paddleboarding and kayaking through their habitat.

Marine mammal enthusiasts can also join Trainer for a Day programs, take a behind-the-scenes tour, play with sea lions, or enjoy a full-day VIP experience that includes a sea turtle encounter and evening snorkeling excursion.

Atlantis is home to the largest open-air marine habitat in the world, with multiple exhibits spread out across the resort grounds displaying over 250 species of marine life, from majestic manta rays to small, colorful clownfish.

Located at The Royal, The Dig invites guests to experience the wonders of the deep with seahorses, moon jellies, and Moray eels on display in the winding hallways designed to feel like architectural ruins of the lost city. The Predator Lagoon is filled with sharks, stingrays, and giant grouper, while the Ruins Lagoon makes it possible for guests to snorkel among over 20,000 tropical fish.

Fans of stingrays won’t want to miss the Royal Ray Lagoon, Water’s Edge Lagoon, and Stingray Lagoon, while shark enthusiasts should be sure to visit the Reef Lagoon and Mayan Temple Shark Lagoon. Home to local sea turtles, the Hibiscus Lagoon invites guests to see them up close, while the Estuary Lagoon is home to newborn sea life and bonnethead sharks. Guests can watch shark and fish feeding sessions in four different locations almost every day of the week.

Spa The award-winning Mandara Spa at the Atlantis invites guests to treat themselves to an hour or a full day of pampering, with options including open-air massages, salon services, customized facials, and soothing sunburn treatments. The spa also features plunge pools, steam rooms, an aromatherapy room, and a couple’s spa suite perfect for honeymooners.

Amenities and Activities While the casino, water park, and marine life tend to get the most attention, there’s no shortage of things to do all throughout the Atlantis Resort. Live entertainment from both local and international acts awaits at Joker’s Wild Comedy Club, and the resort often hosts special events like salsa dancing nights or touring musical groups.

Just off the casino floor, Aura Nightclub invites guests to dance the night away, while the Atlantis Theater makes it easy to catch the latest movies for free. Fitness fanatics won’t want to miss the on-site gym, which offers high-energy spin classes, private and group yoga practices, a lap pool, and basketball courts in addition to the usual range of cardio and strength training equipment.

Shopping at the Atlantis Resort Each hotel features a sundry store with travel essentials and snacks, while the Logo Stores offer Atlantis-branded clothing and souvenirs. Located within The Coral hotel, the Crystal Court Shops offer dozens of designer shops like Gucci and Versace, while the Escape at the Cove offers boutique fashions and unique artwork.

Pick up local goods at the Marina Village near The Coral, where you can also find resort wear and handcrafted items at the Art Walk.

Dining Out: Our Favorite Restaurants at Atlantis Paradise Island

With a total of 33 dining and drinking destinations, the resort offers something to suit every craving. Fans of celebrity chefs can share tapas at Fish by two-Michelin starred chef Jose Andrews, savor fresh seafood dishes by Nobu Matsuhisa at Nobu , and dine on Mediterranean cuisine at Olives by Todd English.

Guests can choose from three additional fine dining restaurants when they’re in the mood for an elegant meal, including plant-based Mediterranean fare at Café Martinique , contemporary Chinese dishes at Chop Stix , and smoked and grilled meats at Seafire Steakhouse .

The Secrets of Atlantis in the Bahamas

atlantis resort in the bahamas

One of my best friends decided she wanted to celebrate her milestone birthday with a girls trip to  Atlantis Bahamas .  She has been such a good friend to me, I would have gone just about anywhere to help her celebrate.

The trip far exceeded my expectations and we all had so much fun! I didn’t want to leave the Atlantis Resort and I can’t wait to go back.  Whether you are planning a girls trip to Atlantis, going as a couple, or taking the whole family, I know you will enjoy it too.

If you are still trying to decide if an Atlantis vacation is right for you, wondering which hotel tower you should book, or what to do during your Atlantis trip, my Atlantis Bahamas guide has the information you will need, plus some tips to help save money.  These Atlantis tips and review are based on my personal experience.

About Atlantis in the Bahamas

The best things to do at atlantis, atlantis dining & drinks, atlantis nightlife, atlantis accommodations options, getting around at atlantis bahamas, booking your atlantis vacation, what to wear at atlantis, atlantis bahamas day pass, getting to atlantis on paradise island, is atlantis in the bahamas worth visiting, expert tips for a trip to atlantis bahamas.

The Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas is loosely themed after the mythical island of Atlantis mentioned in some of Plato’s works. In the end,  Atlantis fell out of favor with the deities and was submerged into the Atlantic Ocean.  You will notice ruins, temples and other marine decor around the property.

The resort was originally part of the Paradise Island Hotel and Casino, which was owned by Resorts International and opened back in 1968.

It was purchased by Kerzner International Limited in 1994, and opened as Atlantis Bahamas in 1998 once the Royal Towers were built.  In 2007, the Cove and the Reef opened.

Since 2014, Atlantis Bahamas has been owned and operated by Brookfield Hospitality.  Kerzner still owns and operates the other five Atlantis resorts around the world including Atlantis The Palm in Dubai, Atlantis Sanya in China; The Royal Atlantis Resort & Residences in Dubai, and Atlantis Ko Olina Resort in Hawaii.

You will never be bored at Atlantis, there is so much to do! Aquaventure , the Atlantis Bahamas water park area, has something for everyone.  We had no idea there were two areas that have water slides – Mayan Temple and Power Tower – until our last day.

There were a few scary slides that none of us were brave enough to go on like the “Leap of Faith.”  The “Leap of Faith” slide goes straight down into the shark tank, so it is not for the faint of heart.  You can check out the video I found on Youtube and see what you think of the Atlantis slide!

Right next to the “Leap of Faith” Slide, they have a little tamer (although still fast) slide called the “Serpent Slide” that you ride down on in a tube.  I went on a two-person tube with my friend.  The slide also goes through the shark tank.

Another friend followed us on the ride, but when we got to the end of the ride, an empty tube came out after us.  At first, I worried that she had fallen out of her tube.

Actually, the lady helping everyone at the start of the slide let go of her tube before she could get in.  So she had to go back down and get a new tube before she could go on the ride.  Luckily the line was not too long.

It is a mile-long river where you go through river rapids, big waves, and even a water escalator (which was a little odd).  I could have stayed on it the whole day.  There are two person tubes that you can take on this ride too.  It is not as intense as some of the warning signs may make it out to be, but don’t try to carry a cocktail.

the current at Atlantis in the Bahamas

Additionally, there are 11 pools at Atlantis, so we didn’t get to try them all.  It was nice that there always were plenty of lounge chairs.  Our favorite was the Baths pool which is located close to the Cove.  It has a beach entry, waterfalls, and caves.  Plus in the afternoon there was a great DJ and dance area.

Also for those that like to swim for exercise, there is also a lap pool by the fitness center.  If you stay at the Cove or the Reef, you have access to the Atlantis adult-only pools.

There are two main ocean beaches by Atlantis.  We went to the one closer to the Cove as the water seemed calmer, although it did close at 3 pm for a private event the day we were there.  There is another beach on the lagoon with some water sports (snorkeling, paddle boats, and bikes) that I wanted to go to, but did not have time.

Slide through the shark tank at Aquaventure. -

Atlantis is also almost like an animal sanctuary.  They have sharks and stingrays and turtles in the various lagoons on the property.

They also have a fantastic aquarium called the Dig .  Visually the Dig is stunning and you can even snorkel inside the Atlantis aquarium.  They also have a dolphin encounter , where you can swim with dolphins.  My friends did that before I arrived and enjoyed it.

As you can see, Atlantis is a fun place for both adults and kids.  If you wanted, you could even do an excursion to Exuma to swim with the pigs . For more family-friendly vacation ideas, check out this list of the best islands to visit with kids .

Many people mistakenly think that Atlantis is an all-inclusive resort.  There are no all-inclusive packages but you can purchase an Atlantis dining plan.  Get details on the dining plan choices here .

While the options are not cheap, children 11 years and under do get to eat for free with the purchase of an adult Atlantis meal plan. You will have plenty of food options to choose from at Atlantis but most are overpriced as you might expect.

The conch at Bimini Road was delicious and there was plenty to share. -

Lunches were reasonable, we usually grabbed something from one of the shacks by the pool.  I enjoyed the roti wrap that I had.

Dinners were expensive, but many of the restaurants had portions that were large enough to split.  Bimini Road was excellent and the best value.  The food portions were huge – especially the cracked conch, which was delicious.   They even had a live band the night we dined there.  It has since been replaced by Frankie Gone Bananas .

There are also lots of options for cocktails.  Atlantis has plenty of bars throughout the pool area and inside the resort too.  The pool bars all had cocktail menus and you could also customize your own frozen drink by choosing the fruits (strawberry, banana, and mango) and the alcohol.   Of course, you can also have frozen drinks without alcohol.

In the evenings, you can find plenty of different things to do.  One night we went to the comedy club (there was a $25 cover, which cannot be charged to the room).  We weren’t too impressed with the first comic we saw, but we really enjoyed the headliner, Andy Woodhull .  We decided to be brave and sit in the front row, so we got lots of attention.

Another night we went to the nightclub, Aura , which wasn’t too crowded.  We spent most of our time there on the dance floor since the DJ was playing a good mix of music.  If you get there early (before 11 pm) there is no cover charge.

They alsho have several other bars, some that even have live music, a movie theater (no extra charge), and a casino with a sportsbook.

Atlantis Bahamas is a huge resort with several different towers (Royal Towers, Coral Towers, The Reef, The Cove).

The Royal Towers are known as the “heartbeat of Atlantis.”  The Reef and the Cove have adult only areas and significantly more expensive than the other towers.  The Coral Tower has more affordable rates but is a little farther from the waterpark area.  There is also the Harborside Resort at Atlantis which is located not too far away in the Marina.

We stayed in the Royal Towers but I think next time I go, I might stay in one of the cheaper towers at the Atlantis resort.  I barely spent any time in the room anyway.  The room was nice, but I was disappointed when I realized that our balcony was barely wide enough to stand on.  Only a few rooms in the Atlantis Royal Towers actually have real balconies.

If you’re planning a trip to Atlantis, it can be hard to decide which Atlantis tower is best.  The table below is a brief rundown of the different properties with access to Atlantis.  I listed them in order from most affordable to most expensive to help you decide where to stay in Atlantis Bahamas.

When planning your budget you need to consider the Atlantis resort fee in addition to the room charge.  The resort fee includes 2 bottles of water, access to the gym, and wifi (note: Atlantis Bahamas wifi was not very reliable).

The Atlantis hotel grounds are absolutely gorgeous and well-maintained.  I enjoyed exploring especially early in the morning when it was quiet and the rest of the guests were still sleeping.  There is a lot to see and plenty of good Instagram -able spots.  I took lots of pictures of Atlantis, its one of the top places to go in the Bahamas .

Rope bridge I found while exploring the Atlantis Resort. -

It is a bit of a walk from any of the rooms to the pools and waterparks.  Carry what you need with you for the day, don’t expect to be able to go quickly back to your room to grab something.

We used the lockers by the waterpark to store our phone and other items while we were in the water.  It’s $10 well-spent.  The only problem is the lockers close early (around 5 pm most days we were there).

If you prefer not to walk, there is a free shuttle that runs around the resort (every 30 minutes) but we never used it.

While Atlantis can be expensive, you may be able to find promotions on their website and sometimes there will be special deals on Atlantis vacation packages.  If your plans are flexible, you will probably be able to get a better rate on Atlantis packages.

You can also use Marriott points to book your stay, although you still will have to pay the resort fee for each person (check the fine print to find out the current fee).  Points cannot be used for The Reef.

Next time I go back, I will probably try a less expensive option like the Coral Tower.  If there aren’t any promotions or groupons, you can click here to check the prices and availability on hotels.com .  Hotels.com has a price guarantee so if you find a lower rate after you have booked, they will refund you the difference.

If you are getting ready to pack for your vacation, you need to decide what to bring to Atlantis.  This depends on what you plan on doing.

For the most part, casual clothes and flip-flops will be fine around the resort.  If you plan on going clubbing or visiting some of the higher end restaurants, bring some more stylish outfits and nicer shoes.  If you want to take advantage of the gym at Atlantis, pack your workout gear.

Be sure to bring several bathing suits (at least two) because you will probably be spending a lot of time in the water.  You will need a cover-up too.  Cover-ups (and shoes) are required in the lobbies and all indoor restaurants, lounges and public places.

Visiting Atlantis is definitely one of the best things to do on Paradise Island!  If you are visiting Nassau on a cruise or don’t have time to spend the night at Atlantis, you can also purchase an Atlantis Bahamas day pass although these are now extremely limited and a bit pricey!

An Aquaventure Water Park Day Pass includes unlimited access to the 141-acre Aquaventure Water Park plus all the pools and beaches.   You can also purchase experiences at Dolphin Cay or other water adventures.

If you are a group of 3-4, instead of booking Atlantis day passes, it may be more cost effective to book a night at the Comfort Suites Paradise Island.  Guests of the Comfort Suites (who have booked their stay in advance) can access Atlantis for free.  Check the prices for the Comfort Suites here , but be sure to add in the resort fees and charges for extra people when deciding if it will be cheaper than buying day passes for Atlantis.

The Atlantis day pass needs to be booked in advance as they do sell out.  Click here to get details, current prices, and availability.

atlantis in the bahamas

In the Bahamas, Atlantis is located on Paradise Island.  You will want to book your flight to Nassau (NAS) and then you can take a taxi from the airport to the resort.  This is probably the most cost-effective and efficient way of getting from the Nassau airport to Atlantis on Paradise Island.

The taxi prices are regulated and will cost around $35 depending on the number of passengers and luggage.  The ride takes about 30 minutes. I found the taxi drivers in the Bahamas very friendly and professional, but if you prefer you can also book the airport transfers through Atlantis.

Atlantis bus transfers are charged roundtrip per person.  The bus may make stops on its way to Atlantis.  They also offer more expensive options like limos or SUVs, which might make sense if you have a large party.  Airport transfers organized by Atlantis can be booked at the time you make your reservation.

Note: I would not recommend renting a car for your Atlantis vacation.  You would end up paying more for parking.  If you would like to explore Paradise Island or Nassau, you can hire a taxi.

Yes.  While it isn’t the cheapest place to stay or visit for a day, it has so much to offer that I still feel like it offers good value.  There aren’t many other places that can offer a waterpark, casino, aquarium, beaches, restaurants, bars, clubs, shopping, and more.

To wrap up, if you haven’t already been to Atlantis, you should plan a trip.  We had such a great time and left fantastic Atlantis Bahamas reviews.  It is the best place to stay in the Bahamas. Personally, I can’t wait to go back.

If you have been to Atlantis, I would love to hear about your trip.  Do you have any additional Atlantis resort tips? If you haven’t made it to Atlantis yet, what is stopping you?!

  • Be flexible with your travel dates so that you can take advantage of the deals for Atlantis vacations.
  • There is something for everyone at Atlantis – waterpark, pools, beach, casino, aquarium, nightlife, and a comedy club just to name a few.
  • Atlantis food options are expensive.  Bring breakfast and try to share plates to save money on food costs.
  • Bring what you need with you for the day and use lockers.  It will save you the long walk back to your room at Atlantis.
  • Make sure to go on “The Current,” you will thank me later!  It was my favorite ride in the waterpark.
  • If you just have a day, purchase an Atlantis day pass in advance.  You can enjoy all the amenities!

8 Tips to Plan Your Vacation at Atlantis Resort

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

The iconic Atlantis resort seemingly rises up out of the ocean, and absolutely sprawls out across Paradise Island in the Bahamas. This resort has a colorful Disney-like vibe, with themed hotels, attractions, endless activities and crowds. Visiting (and surviving) your stay at Atlantis takes a little bit of planning, budgeting and a whole lot of patience. Don’t expect to do everything in one visit; you’ll be overwhelmed. Instead, do a little research and decide what appeals to you most, including activities and accommodations.

1. Where to Stay

Atlantis offers the gamut of choices when it comes to accommodations to cater to space needs, budget and desired amenities . The Beach and Coral Towers (the original two, built about 20 years ago) offer the most affordable accommodations. Rooms are a bit smaller, the lobbies are a little more spartan and amenities are a little more budget basic. The Royal Towers (which is the large building at the center of the resort, which you’ve likely seen in ads) offers more posh accommodations, and is located right at the Aquaventure park. The Cove and the Reef are at the top end of the budget, with more space and luxurious accommodations. The Cove offers adult-only perks (a nice touch with this family-friendly resort), including an adult -only beach section and pool. Located in the Marina area, is Harborside, which has one and two bedroom condominiums, including full kitchens and laundry facilities. Included with all accommodations is access to the Aquaventure and beaches, shuttle buses and admission to the aquariums and the library.

One thing’s for sure: at Atlantis you won’t go hungry! Guests can choose from snack shacks populating the beaches and waterparks, featuring standard snack foods along with Bahamian specialties, to family-style restaurants that are big on flavor and on portion size to gourmet options, including club dining, interactive dining and signature restaurants from acclaimed chefs. One word to the wise- if a particular restaurant appeals to you, make reservations right away. Many restaurants fill up quickly- even days in advance. Also, there is a 15 per cent gratuity automatically added to all bills (even at the snack shacks), so read your bill carefully.

3. Aquaventure

Do you like your waterparks super-sized? Then you’ll love this one that spreads out over a staggering 141 acres. There are your standard water slides- raft rides that twist and turn and thrill, along with some crazy body slides. The Abyss features a 50 ft near vertical drop plunging you into the dark. Regular water slides too tame for you? The Leap of Faith is aptly named, with a near 60 ft vertical drop out of a replica Mayan Temple that lets you accumulate some serious speed- to flow your way right through shark-filled lagoon (you are encased within the waterslide, of course). Aquaventure’s  lazy river is far from lazy. Think whitecaps and waves, tossing you about on the River Rapids. Crowds are large around this park, and inner tubes for the raft rides are a hot commodity. A tip: Enter the River Rapids at one of it’s many small entry points along the way, where there are far less people (and more tubes), rather than the main beach/entry point for the ride.

4. Aquariums

Atlantis has a massive marine environment, with some 11 million gallons of saltwater, 50,000 sea creatures and over 200 species represented. The Dig, located in the Royal Towers, replicates the lost city of Atlantis, and guests wander through tunnels filled with artifacts and a wide variety of marine life to observe. If snorkeling out in the open water isn’t your thing, you can snorkel through the aquariums at the Dig. Located in the Coral Towers is Predators Lagoon, filled with sharks, barracudas and other toothy marine animals. A highlight- a clear tunnel running through the aquarium allows you to observe the fish and marine animals from below, and you can also take some really cool “underwater” pictures of the Royal Towers above.

5. The Beach

If you are a beach lover, than you’ll love the miles of beaches available along Atlantis’s shoreline. Each one of their beaches has a distinct vibe all its own. The largest, Atlantis Beach, offers the most space, but is also public, meaning that you’ll encounter a number of vendors and expect to pay for things like umbrellas. Paradise Beach, located between the Reef and the Cove hotels is serene, with cushy chairs and shade covers. The Cove Beach has awesome snorkeling and tends to be slightly less crowded than the others. A tip: Can’t find a beach chair? Ask one of the attendants to help seat you. They don’t permit “saving” of chairs, and if people have left only towels behind, they will be happy to remove them to find you a seat.

6. Transportation

Don’t be deceived. This resort is huge, and expect to walk a lot. The resort does provide shuttle buses that run between the different hotels very regularly, starting for the most part around 8am in the morning until midnight (although some do run later). A word of warning: for those who plan to hike it, expect that you are going to be walking an awful lot even after the bus drops you off. You many want to save some of those steps by hopping on one of those buses.

7. Entertainment/Activities

When you’re not sunning on the beach or whirling your way down the water slides, there is no shortage of entertainment options. Atlantis is home to the largest casino in the Caribbean, expanding over 60,000 square feet. There is also an on-site comedy club, and magic shows. There is a full-sized movie theater showing recently released movies, as well as a full library from which to borrow your beach read. Kids (up to age 12) will enjoy Atlantis Kids Adventures and their ongoing roster of kids activities. Tweens and teens have their own spot to go at night time, with age appropriate nightclubs (complete with ID and cover charge).

8. Dolphin Cay

If taking a waterslide through a shark tank isn’t enough of a marine encounter for you, visit the expansive Dolphin Cay, where guests can swim with dolphins (either underwater or have a shallow water encounter) or have an experience with sea lions. For the really enthusiastic, you can be a trainer for a day. Like with the restaurants at Atlantis, you are advised to reserve well  in advance, as spots are limited and fill up quickly.

7 Tips for Visiting Atlantis on a Budget

Katie Genter

Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here .

Atlantis, Paradise Island is a well-known vacation destination in Nassau, Bahamas. But, as is true with many popular resort areas, Nassau and Atlantis aren't especially budget-friendly. For many travelers, the expense is simply the price of an annual vacation or once-in-a-lifetime trip. But, it's possible to cut down your expenses and book a trip to Atlantis at a fraction of the cost you thought possible.

1. Consider Saving Your Miles

Usually here at TPG we're all about using your points and miles. But we want you to get the best value possible when you do so. In many cases, using airline miles to fly to the Bahamas just isn't going to provide solid value. This is due to both the availability of cheap cash fares to the Bahamas, as well as the excessive taxes and fees levied on flights departing from the Bahamas. So, even if you use just 15,000 American miles (12,500 miles off-peak) to fly from Nassau to the continental US, you'll still need to pay $112.93 in taxes and fees. Of those taxes and fees, $22.33 are collected by the US, and the remaining $90.60 are held by the Bahamas.

Sample taxes and fees on an off-peak America Airlines award from NAS to ATL.

So, if you can find reasonably priced round-trip flights or a cheap one-way flight departing from the Bahamas, this may be be better than using miles and still playing high taxes and fees. Note that the high taxes and fees only apply to flights departing the Bahamas; You'll only pay the normal $5.60 US security fee on an award flight from the US to the Bahamas.

2. Get a Free Stay

Simply put, staying at Atlantis isn't cheap. For example, a three-night stay in a Garden View room at the most affordable property on site, The Beach , still costs more than $900 for just the room, taxes and resort fees. And this was during times marked "best value."

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Luckily, there are various ways to get free or discounted stays. A separate piece describes strategies for getting free nights at Atlantis -- but the easiest and most straightforward way is to use Marriott points to stay at The Coral (35,000 points per night), The Royal (50,000 points per night) or The Cove (60,000 points per night). You can even redeem the up to 35,000-point free night certificate that comes with the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card at The Coral.

Alternatively, you can use Choice Hotels points to stay at the Comfort Suites Paradise Island , which is a short walk from Atlantis and provides access to Atlantis' Aquaventure water park.

3. Pack the Essentials

If there are things you know you'll need, bring them from home instead of waiting to purchase them once in the Bahamas. For example, my husband and I were happy that we'd brought our own sunscreen and aqua socks to protect our feet at Aquaventure. And you definitely want to remember to pack your sunglasses, rash guards and dry bags to keep your valuables safe and dry.

Many of these items, like rash guards, aqua socks and dry bags, can be purchased for surprisingly little on Amazon. Our aqua socks looked ridiculous since they were the deeply discounted crazy designs, but they served their purpose. Purchasing them in the Bahamas or at the resort would have cost a small fortune.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

4. Take the Ferry

If you want to go to Nassau from Atlantis, you could take a taxi. But, based on our experience with taxis in the Bahamas, you're probably going to be charged more than is reasonable for the short ride. So, why not take the $3 per person ferry?

Ferries depart from beneath the incoming side of the bridge on Paradise Island. You can purchase tickets on demand from a ticket booth, and then boats depart when full. You'll be dropped off in downtown Nassau.

5. Bring Your Own Food

Seriously, food is expensive at Atlantis. From my experience, the most wallet-friendly option on-site was the Marina Pizzeria, where we paid $41 for a large pizza. Yes, the pizza could easily be split by two adults and two children, but it's still a $41 pizza.

This is what a $41 pizza looks like.

Depending on how serious you are about saving, you could theoretically pack every meal with you in the form of dehydrated meals, or go shopping at a supermarket in Nassau between the airport and Atlantis. But, at the very least, I recommend bringing oatmeal, granola bars and some of your favorite snacks. This will save you money, and the quick-eats and grab-and-go options at Atlantis really aren't worth the splurge. By eating oatmeal for breakfast in our room and snacking on granola bars, we managed to only need to buy dinner each day.

6. Take a Walk to Eat Local

There's a bridge linking Paradise Island to Nassau. If you walk across the bridge, you'll see a row of shacks along the water serving various local foods and drinks.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

On our second night we took a short 15- to 20-minute walk over the bridge going off Paradise Island to Mckenzie's Fresh Fish & Conch. The walk is easy (there's a sidewalk along the bridge) and there are numerous small restaurants at the end of the bridge. The pink one right at the end of the bridge is Mckenzie's, which takes credit cards and serves Bahamian food. We ordered two Kalik beers, a conch salad, conch fritters, a fish sandwich and fries for $42 including tax and tip -- although this was more food than was needed for two people. Some of the fish is served with skin on and bones in, so if you're a picky eater, be careful when ordering.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

7. Bring Your Own Alcohol

We saw a few large cases of beer being stored in the luggage storage room when we departed and noticed multiple groups of people walking around the resort with red Solo cups. You can bring alcohol from home or purchase some in the Bahamas; there's a rum shop and an island grocery store in a shopping center near the harbor village.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Bottom Line

During our recent "free stay" using the Total Rewards benefit, we spent $533 on non-room expenses. Some of these expenses, like the resort fee and mandatory housekeeping gratuities , aren't avoidable and accounted for $198 of our non-room expenses. And although I researched other transport options, I couldn't find a way to avoid the $92 of taxi fares we incurred round-trip between the airport and resort.

The remaining $243 of expenses could have been avoided or reduced, since these costs were from five meals for two people, plus two cocktails during happy hour. You might initially think bringing your own food and alcohol is too much — but I didn't particularly enjoy paying $41 for a pizza either. In fact, budget conscious travelers may actually enjoy making their own food and eating it on their balcony instead of having to wait in line for yet another over-priced burger and fries.

Can you bring your own alcohol to Atlantis Bahamas?

we purchased liquor, beer and wine at the airport before heading to atlantis paradise island resort

Yes! You can absolutely bring your own alcohol to Atlantis Bahamas. If you’re a drinker this is definitely how to visit Atlantis Bahamas on a budget. When you’re on your way to exit the airport you will see a small liquor shop to the right. We purchased beer, wine, and liquor here. They provided us with a box and helped us with our luggage over to the transportation booth. They even opened a beer for us to enjoy, now that’s how you start a vacation!

What can you do for free at Atlantis?

  •  Aquaventure – water slides and pools
  • The Dig Aquarium tour
  • Marine habitats and exhibits
  • Visit Marina Village
  • Stroll through the Atlantis Casino
  • The Crystal Court Shops
  • White sand beaches

If you’re a registered guest of the Atlantis Paradise Island resort, you can experience the above at no extra cost. When we stayed at the resort, we did not pay for the activities. If you’re just looking to relax by the pool, lay in the lazy river, experience thrilling water slides, or visit some wildlife it doesn’t cost anything extra.

So, Is it worth staying in Atlantis?

Yes! We enjoyed the beautiful scenery and seeing wildlife up close without having to pay more than the cost to stay at the resort. There were plenty of things to do and we felt no need to go off-site. It’s a perfect resort for couples or families. Plus if you catch one of their deals, it can be a really affordable option for a nice and luxurious getaway.

Ultimately, how to get to Atlantis Paradise Island on a budget depends on how much money you want to spend. It’s a personal choice, but whether you stay at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort or decide to visit for the day it’s definitely worth it. How Much Does Atlantis Bahamas Cost?

Are you planning a tropical getaway to Atlantis Bahamas resort? Whether you’re booking for two or traveling as a family, this world-famous paradise island is the perfect destination for travelers of all budgets. But how much does Atlantis Bahamas cost when considering all the expenses? In this blog post, you’ll find everything about the costs associated with visiting one of the most iconic destinations on Earth – from room rates and dining options to airfare and activities. Find out exactly how much money you’ll need to spend in order to maximize your time while staying within your budget.

What is the Average Price of an Atlantis Bahamas Vacation?

A visit to the paradise island of Atlantis is a great experience for everyone, but not for your wallet! Generally, a couple may expect to pay between $525 and $825 per day, totaling around $4,725 per week. Similarly, a family of four usually spends between $900 and $1,700 daily – an average weekly cost of $9,100 . The estimated cost includes resort accommodations, meals, flights to the Bahamas, and a couple of premium activities, such as snorkeling at the ruins of Atlantis or kayaking with dolphins. Our estimate includes VAT, resort fees, gratuities, and other fees.

Determining Costs at Atlantis Bahamas

The cost of an Atlantis Bahamas vacation depends on several factors. Hotel selection is important, as different properties within Atlantis offer varying prices and amenities. The room you choose can also affect pricing; for example, a large room with an ocean view will come at a higher rate than a smaller room with an interior view. Additionally, holidays and peak season months tend to have higher rates than non-peak season dates. It is also essential to consider the days of the week you book – midweek stays can often save travelers money compared to weekend getaways. Lastly, you can save money by taking advantage of special offers, while choosing dining plans, activities, and excursions can add additional costs. The factors listed above should be taken into consideration when setting your budget.

Our next step is to break down the expenses at Atlantis Bahamas – including the room rates, food, activities, travel, other fees, and special offers. We’ll also go into the factors involved in determining these costs.

1. Room Rates at Atlantis Bahamas

Atlantis - Accommodations - Azure Suites

Things can quickly add up when planning a getaway with the family. Generally, a family of four can expect to spend between $300 and $800 per night at Atlantis Bahamas; however, prices can fluctuate due to supply and demand.

We searched prices for 2023 and found that the cheapest option is off-season at The Coral for $206 per night. If you stay at Harborside Resort, you’re looking closer to $300, while options at The Royal or The Reef average between $350-$400 on their cheapest dates. If your taste is more luxurious, check out The Cove – an all-suite resort that lacks anything under $600 per night. These quotes are just the low end of the spectrum (and are subject to change).

When planning a trip to Atlantis, the time of year you choose can make a world of difference. Hotels ramp up their prices significantly during peak season, school breaks, and holidays. It is common for prices to double, triple, or even quadruple what you would pay during the off-season. Take The Coral, for instance; if you book your stay there during April vacation, be prepared to pay around $700 per night – compared to the usual price in the $200s during the low season. Perhaps even more astonishing are the rates found at The Cove during Christmas and New Year’s week, with some room costs reaching as high as $7,300 per night!

If your budget is important, consider that visiting Atlantis during peak times will likely come at a premium. It’s essential to consider all factors to strike the right balance between affordability and satisfaction.

Costs at Atlantis Bahamas Depending on Where and When You Stay

Visiting the Bahamas’ Atlantis resort is a dream come true, but the price tag is undoubtedly high. The cost of a room at Atlantis Bahamas depends on various factors, such as size, location, and amenities. Here are some things you should consider to get the room you want while staying within your budget.

How Hotel Choices Can Affect Costs

Atlantis Bahamas offers five distinct hotels , each providing a unique combination of amenities and rates that range from budget-friendly to luxurious. Previously the Beach Tower was the least expensive option at Atlantis, but it is closed until further notice. The Coral is the least expensive hotel available as of 2023, followed by the Harborside Resort. If luxurious resort amenities and lavish surroundings are something you’re looking for, then The Royal or The Cove would be the best choice; however, they come at a higher price.

How Room Types Can Affect Costs

When planning a stay at Atlantis Bahamas, the cost is often one of the primary considerations when selecting a room type. In general, smaller rooms will be less expensive than larger and multi-bedroom options, while rooms with sweeping ocean-view balconies typically cost more than those with interior views. All rooms come equipped with the necessary amenities. However, higher room rates are associated with more luxurious options. So consider your budget and prioritize what is most important to you before choosing a room.

How the Seasons Can Affect Costs

When determining the costs for a stay at Atlantis Bahamas, there are a few factors to consider in addition to the hotel, room type, and amenities. The time of year can significantly influence the price; August through mid-November is referred to as the off-season in the Bahamas and is typically cheaper, though there is an added risk of hurricanes. During shoulder season from mid-April to June, travel is still relatively affordable, but hurricanes are less likely to strike. Some weeks in May are just as inexpensive as those in the off-season. Peak season, which runs from mid-December to mid-April, has the highest costs due to low hurricane risk and cold weather in the US (everyone is eager to go to the Bahamas when it’s cold).

How Days of the Week Affect Costs

The cost of a trip to Atlantis Bahamas may vary depending on the day of the week. Weekday rates (Monday through Thursday) are often more affordable than standard weekend costs (Friday through Sunday). If you’re looking for ways to save money at Atlantis Bahamas , limit your exposure to weekend stays. Moreover, holiday weeks/weekends are significantly more expensive than other times, regardless of the day of the week. Simple changes to your travel dates can help you save money while still enjoying your Atlantis trip to the fullest.

Here are the key takeaways:

  • The cost of a room at Atlantis Bahamas depends on the hotel, room type, season, and day of the week.
  • The five hotels at Atlantis Bahamas offer a range of amenities and rates. The Coral offers the lowest rates at Atlantis, starting at $206 per night.
  • The average price per night for a family of four ranges from $300 to $800, but it can be higher or lower.
  • The time of year you visit can make a significant price difference. Hotels raise their rates sharply during peak season, school breaks, and holidays.
  • If you’re looking to save money, consider booking during the off-season or at less popular times of the year.
  • Smaller rooms are less expensive than larger and multi-bedroom options. Rooms with expansive ocean-view balconies typically cost more than those with interior views.
  • Off-season (August through mid-November) is typically cheaper for visiting Atlantis Bahamas, but there is an added risk of hurricanes during this period.
  • Weekday rates are often more affordable than standard weekend costs. Holiday weeks are significantly more expensive than other times, regardless of the day of the week.

2. The Cost of Food at Atlantis Bahamas

Atlantis Dining - Frezca - Poke Bowl with Chopsticks

A family of four could easily spend $300 – $500 daily on food at Atlantis Bahamas, including resort dining plans, lunch, snacks, beverages, and a couple of alcoholic drinks. Food costs may be less if you pay out of pocket, especially if you eat light or eat off-property, but you would have to make some sacrifices to keep your budget under $200 or even $300.

Dining Options at Atlantis Bahamas

Atlantis Bahamas offers both inclusive dining experiences and pay-as-you-go options, so travelers should carefully weigh their choices. Although eating at Atlantis Bahamas isn’t cheap, there are ways to make it more affordable. You can opt for a dining plan or bypass it altogether. Ultimately, guests will base their decision on their dietary needs, preferences, kids’ ages, and budgets.

The Cost of Dining Plans at Atlantis Bahamas

Two full-service dining plans are available at Atlantis Bahamas, allowing resort guests to enjoy their stay to the fullest. The Trident Plan includes a full American or Continental breakfast and a three-course dinner nightly at $135.00 per adult and $57.00 per child (ages 7-11) per day. The Aqua Plan is slightly more economical as it offers a two-course dinner for $114.00 per adult and $44.00 for children (ages 7-11) per day. On both plans, children six and under eat free, making it an economical choice for some families.

Out-of-Pocket Dining at Atlantis Bahamas (No Dining Plans)

While buying a meal plan may seem like the best idea at first, more often than not, those who are budget conscious or prefer lighter meals will find more benefit in avoiding dining plans entirely. Instead, guests can simply pay out of pocket for each meal and keep an eye on their spending. If done correctly, this can result in significant savings. Atlantis’ dining plans can be expensive, so opting for lighter meals, dining at an off-site restaurant, or buying items from a nearby market could save you money during your vacation at the resort.

  • Two full-service dining plans are available at Atlantis Bahamas.
  • The Trident Plan includes a full American or Continental breakfast and a three-course dinner nightly at $135.00 per adult per day; $57.00 per child per day.
  • The Aqua Plan is slightly more economical as it offers a two-course dinner for $114.00 per adult and $44.00 for children per day.
  • Children 6 and under are free on both plans.
  • Depending on your needs, dining plans can be a great way to save money or have an inclusive experience.
  • Families with kids under six could save more money by getting a dining plan.
  • The cost of food can quickly add up to $300 – $500 per day for a family of four, so paying out of pocket may be the best option for couples or if your kids are older.

3. The Cost of Activities at Atlantis Bahamas

  • A wide range of activities and services are available to guests at Atlantis, both included and fee-based.

Fee-Based Activities at Atlantis

Taking part in the exciting activities offered by Atlantis can be expensive, but it will surely enhance your experience. Those who want to get up close with the dolphins and sea lions will have to pay for a service such as Kayak with Dolphins , which costs $125 and is suitable for those over six years old. If you prefer exploring the ruins of Atlantis underwater, Snorkel the Ruins at Atlantis is a 2-hour session for $225. There are also educational options like Swim in Wonder , where you join rescued bottlenose dolphins for a deep-water adventure for $300. Moreover, if you’re looking for something special, Playtime with Sea Lions and Junior Ultimate Trainer for a Day will set you back US$300 and US$550, respectively. Private Cabanas are perfect for families and groups, but rentals start at $1,250! You can also purchase spa treatments, personal training sessions, and fitness classes (some are free).

Included Activities at Atlantis

It is home to some of the best attractions on earth, including access to the world’s largest open-air marine habitat and miles of white sand beaches. • Included activities at Atlantis Bahamas are many and varied, including access to the world’s largest open-air marine habitat, complimentary use of the Aquaventure waterpark, over a dozen swimming pools, a health club, and even a movie theatre!

4. Transportation Costs at Atlantis Bahamas

Flying to Atlantis Bahamas is far more affordable than you may expect, but it can depend on the season and time of year. For example, if you’re departing from New York, the average round-trip price to Nassau is around $414, but during low season or if you’re lucky to find a good deal, it could be as low as the $200s. However, prices tend to go up around school vacations and popular holidays, so keep that in mind when making plans. Flight prices tend to be highest in December and lowest in January and September.

When planning a trip to Atlantis Bahamas, it is crucial to consider the cost of transportation from Nassau Airport (NAS), as this will affect your budget. The quickest and most convenient way to get to Atlantis from the airport is to take a taxi, which costs between $60 – $75 and takes around 15 minutes. Shuttle buses are the cheapest option at only $15. It takes nearly the same amount of time as a taxi but at a much lower cost. Alternatively, you could hire a town car at a slightly higher price of $85 -$100. These various options allow you to make transportation decisions that suit your needs and wallet. Once you arrive at Atlantis Bahamas, transportation within the resort is free!

  • Flying to Nassau from New York has an average round-trip price of $414 but could be as low as the $200s during low season or with a good deal.

5. The Cost of VAT, Resort Fees, and Gratuity

Your stay at the Atlantis Bahamas resort is impacted by several hidden costs.

Value-Added Tax (VAT)

Guests of The Coral, The Royal, The Cove, and The Reef must pay a 21% charge covering VAT and other taxes. As a visitor to the Bahamas, this is how things work. They make their money on tourism.

The Daily Resort Fee for The Coral and The Royal is $64.90 per room per night and $77 for The Reef and The Cove. This includes free access to Aquaventure Waterpark , unlimited access to Predator Tunnel and The Dig, Wi-Fi All Access in guest rooms & resort lobby areas, 2 Reusable Souvenir Water Bottles, complimentary use of the fitness center, scheduled complimentary Resort Guest Activities. Guests staying at Harborside Resort will be required to pay a utility service fee instead of a resort fee. Additionally, all guests ages 12+ will need to pay the resort fee or utility service fee regardless of the length of stay.

A 15% gratuity is usually added to your bill in most Bahamas restaurants. If your bill already includes gratuity, you do not need to tip anything else. However, if you receive exceptional service, you may add more if you wish.

6. Ways to Save: Special Offers Can Lower Prices

Atlantis - Ocean Club Golf Course - a lush green golf course beside crystal blue waters

If you’re considering a trip to Atlantis Bahamas, you’ll find plenty of special offers that can significantly reduce your costs. From the “Air + Hotel & Save” package with bundled savings to the “Dates With Hot Rates” package for last-minute getaways and the “Golf Getaway Package” with discounts and a free round of golf, there are creative ways to help lower your expenses.

For couples, there’s even the “Love Is Here” package that offers generous dining credits. Special rates are also available for Marriott Bonvoy members, military personnel, teachers, nurses, and first responders.

And if you need extra time to pay for your vacation, you may be eligible for the Book Now. Pay Over Time program. Planning a vacation has never been so wallet-friendly! Contact The Vacationeer to learn more.

7. Overall Cost of Atlantis Bahamas Resort

A group enjoys a meal at Sip Sip

Visiting Atlantis Paradise Island comes with an average cost that can vary dramatically depending on your choice of accommodations, travel dates, activities, and other included services. As we mentioned above, for a couple, the cost usually lies between $525 to $825 per day or approximately $4,725 per week. The total price for a family of four is generally between $900 and $1,700 per day – an average of $9,100 per week. These figures include accommodations, food, flights, some paid activities, VAT, resort fees, gratuities, and other fees.

While these prices may appear steep initially, you can find ways to balance them by choosing less expensive resort accommodations, avoiding fee-based activities, and eating sensibly. However, for those looking to indulge in high-end dining options and luxury experiences, the bill could quickly go up to $10,000 or more. Fortunately, there is plenty of wiggle room for Atlantis Bahamas vacations – your choices ultimately determine its cost.

When is the Cheapest Time to Visit Atlantis Bahamas?

Visiting Atlantis Bahamas doesn’t have to cost a fortune if you plan ahead. The best time to score the lowest prices is during the off-peak season, which runs from mid-August through early November, but this also means traveling during hurricane season, so if that makes you uneasy, skip that option. Alternatively, some dates in January and February and some weeks in May can be very cheap. Just watch out for high-demand periods, such as holidays and weekends, as those tend to drive up prices considerably. All in all, there are plenty of opportunities to experience the Atlantis on a budget if you take the time to research and plan accordingly. Better yet, let The Vacationeer handle everything for you!

Is it cheaper to stay at Atlantis or a nearby hotel?

The question may arise as to whether staying at Atlantis Bahamas is cheaper than staying at another nearby hotel. You can get a night at Atlantis for as little as $206 in the lowest room tier, but if you want a more luxurious room or are visiting during peak season, you may pay over $1,000 per night. On average, a stay at Atlantis costs roughly $550.

For those looking to stay elsewhere to save money, a three-star hotel on Paradise Island offers slightly lower prices, with an average cost of around $165 and options beginning at about $70. If you want something higher-end, four-star hotels start from $293.

If you book elsewhere but still plan to visit Atlantis for its water park, aquariums, beaches, or swimming pools, you must purchase the Atlantis Day Pass for all family members. Your bill will be significantly higher as a result. The cost of an Atlantis Day Pass for adults (13 years and older) is $190, while the cost for children (ages 4-12) is $95. During peak times, these prices may increase, so keep this in mind when making your decision. However, admission to all of these features is free when staying on property, so definitely factor that into calculating your final cost! It’s worth the money to stay at Atlantis instead of elsewhere.

10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Going To Atlantis

We just got back from a trip to the Atlantis Bahamas resort. My husband had work meetings for a couple of days and we decided to extend the trip and spend a week on Paradise Island.

Before our trip, I did a lot of research but still wasn’t sure exactly what to expect.

I didn’t find any source that had all the information I wanted so I decided to share the information I wish I would have had before our Atlantis Bahamas trip.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Resources For Planning Your Atlantis Bahamas Vacation

Before our trip as I was doing research, I found the Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas Facebook group and it helped me as I planned our trip to Atlantis I wanted to make sure to share this resource with you.

Atlantis Facebook Group

The Atlantis Facebook group is very active and a great place to get questions answered and get an idea of what to expect at the Atlantis resort.

You can also search the group before asking a question to see if it’s recently been asked. I spent most of my time in this group searching my questions and I found almost all of them had been answered.

Some people in the group have been visiting the resort for years and many of them happily share their knowledge about the resort and visiting the island.

I will say that as with everything you will get a lot of different opinions in the group. So keep that in mind.

10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Going to Atlantis Bahamas Resort

While the group was really helpful in answering questions I wanted to share some of the things I wish I would have known before going to Atlantis with my family.

These are things that I didn’t necessarily expect or would have found helpful to know before our trip. Many of them aren’t things that I thought of until we were on our trip and I realized it would have been nice to know before we arrived.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Wifi For Texts and Phone Calls

When we were at the resort we connected to the wifi and used it for texting, phone calls, and everything else we needed on our phones.

Depending on your phone plan you can add international services to your plan for a set amount each day. We looked into this and my husband ended up doing one day of our trip because he had some business things he needed to get done.

We found that the wifi at the resort worked great and we got service pretty much everywhere. Out by the beach and in a couple of areas at the waterpark the wifi signal was a little bit iffy.

Communicating on the wifi worked great between those of us on the island together. We did notice that there was sometimes a delay when texting people back home. Some texts just took a few minutes longer while others took hours to be delivered.

If you are going to need to be in quick communication you may want to pay to have your phone data while on your trip. If that isn’t a concern the wifi worked really well for all of our communication needs.

Download and Use The App

The Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas app is free and was really helpful especially the first few days as we figured out our way around the resort.

The map section is the one we used the most on the app. It was nice to be able to put in what we were looking for and get a direct path to take.

It was also helpful to look at the map categories so we didn’t miss out on anything fun we wanted to see.

The tours section is a great place to find things to do at the resort it includes a bucket list tour, a tour of the dig, and a foodie tour.

In the more section of the app, we were able to see the daily Atlantean, events, movies, and more.

Expect Prices Similar To Disney

We found that food prices at the Atlantis resort were similar to those you would find at a theme park (like Disney). Maybe a little bit higher depending on which foods you decided to get.

Before our trip, I went to the resort’s website and looked at the different restaurant’s menus.

This gave me an idea of what we needed to budget for food and also which restaurants my kids would enjoy eating at. Some restaurants require reservations so keep that in mind and make the reservations early.

We chose not to eat at any of the restaurants requiring reservations since they charge a fee if you cancel too close to the reservation time. We also weren’t sure how early our kids would crash after being at the pools and beach all day.

For us, it ended up working out really well to end the day earlier since our kids were so tired after being on the go during the day. Most nights everyone was asleep by 8 pm (which is early for us!).

Pro Tip: Get a specialty drink (alcoholic or nonalcoholic) at one of the poolside bars it’s expensive but the cup gets free soda refills for the rest of your stay.

Bring Food From Home

We brought food from home and it was so nice and saved us a lot of money.

The top things I would recommend bringing are breakfast foods and snacks (especially if you’re traveling with kids). These foods are easy to pack and don’t take up much space. Granola bars, pop tarts, snack bags of chips, and crackers are all good options.

We only had a short flight to the Bahamas so we brought a cooler bag with frozen water bottles and some refrigerated foods like yogurts, lunch meat, milk, string cheese, and guacamole packets.

Salty snacks were a favorite snack and I wish we would have brought more of them. We ended up going to the little grocery store across the street to get a few more snacks.

I’ll share a complete packing list with everything we took on our trip soon.

Not All Rooms Have an Unobscured View

When you see the Instagram post of a beach vacation you usually see the beautiful lush tropical greenery, the ocean, and beautiful unobscured views of topical paradise.

Not all rooms have these beautiful unobscured views. If that view is important to you be sure you’re getting a room with a view when you book your stay.

I honestly didn’t think about the fact that our room might not have a great view until we went to our room.

We stayed at the Coral and our room faced the harbor side of the island. The floor we were on was right above the Coral lobby so our view was of the roof with a little bit beyond that. If we had been up a few floors the roof wouldn’t have been a big deal since we would have more of a view past it.

So take this as your reminder if a view is important to you be sure to check on that when booking and again at check-in.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Get Connecting Rooms

If you have more than 4 people in your group you can get connecting rooms at the Coral (and possibly other hotels at the resort too).

We loved staying at the Coral it is a great location with easy access to the beach, water park, shopping, and conference center.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

We were able to get two connecting rooms so we had plenty of space for our family of 6. Each room had a table, dresser, tv mini fridge, and coffee maker. The mini fridge had a small freezer box on top. In one of the fridges it worked really well and was frozen, the other one didn’t work at all.

I would definitely stay in the Coral if we visit again. We heard that Harborside is great for families and that the villas have kitchens which would be nice but they can be a lot more expensive.

Bring Comfortable Shoes and a Stroller

Comfortable shoes are a must. The resort is big and you will do a lot of walking. If you’re out at the pools it might be tempting to go barefoot. But be aware that the sidewalk can get hot on warm days and after being in the water all day the paths can be rough on your feet.

We all had these water socks and they worked really well both for the pools and the beach. We didn’t wear them all the time in the water, but they were comfortable to wear around the resort and we were able to wear them on most of the slides.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Flip-flops also work great but you won’t be able to wear them in the pools or on the slides.

Depending on the ages of your kids you may or may not want to bring a stroller or wagon. We took our double stroller and were able to pile on all the sand toys, goggles, sunscreen, snacks, a cooler bag with drinks, towels, and 2 kids.

It was really nice to be able to take everything we would need throughout the day with us and spend most of the day at the pools or beach.

Dry Bags For Your Phone Are A Must

I got these waterproof phone dry bags to take with us and now they are one of my must-have items for a beach trip. Not only do they keep water away from your phone they also protect it from the sand.

We were able to use our phones while they were in the waterproof pouch. I was even able to take pictures and videos on a couple of the water slides.

The bags aren’t very expensive and a great way for you to be able to keep your phone safe with you and be able to take photos and videos while at the beach.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

Explore the Pools and Beaches

The resort has A LOT of different pools and several different beaches. We definitely found our favorite pools and beaches but I’m glad we explored most of them.

I found that the pools for the most part were the same, the crowds at each pool were the biggest difference.

We spent most of our pool time at Poseidon’s Playzone and the Mayan Temple Pool. We did explore the other pools but those were the two favorites.

There are multiple beaches to visit on the island and we were able to explore several different beaches.

Paradise Lagoon Beaches

On our first day at the resort, we spent most of the day at the Lagoon. It was definitely a favorite for all of us the sand is soft and perfect for playing and the water in the lagoon is calm.

We were able to take our snorkels out and see some fish near the rocks which was really cool.

Atlantis Beach

Atlantis Beach is the one closest to the cove and it’s beautiful. My husband and I walked it several mornings and we spent a morning playing in the waves. The waves on this beach were really big and kind of crazy for kids.

After talking to one of the lifeguards we found out that the waves are always bigger on this beach than at Cove Beach.

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

If you want to try some body surfing, find shells and sea glass, or play in the ocean waves Cove Beach is our pick.

We spent hours at this beach and had so much fun. We saw a couple of sea turtles swimming in the water, did a little bit of snorkeling, and body-surfed.

At the beach, there were multiple places to get life jackets which made it easier for our kids to go out and enjoy the ocean.

Don’t Miss the Gym

When you’re on vacation visiting the gym might be the last thing you think of but the gym at the Atlantis resort is really nice. There is a variety of equipment in the gym, as well as a lap pool.

I believe two people per room are able to use the gym at no additional cost (be sure to check if you have more than two adults staying in a room.)

planning trip to atlantis bahamas

One of our favorite things about the gym is the fact that they had canned water and purified water you could drink while working out.

The free water you can get throughout the resort isn’t always the best tasting. (My kids call it Florida water if you have stayed in Florida you probably know what we are talking about).

A Few More Atlantis Bahamas Tips

Alright I know I said I was only sharing 10 tips so this post didn’t get too long but I want to quickly share a couple of other things I wish I would have known before our trip to the Bahamas.

Dig for Shells

My kids (and I) love finding shells on the beach. At first look, the beaches at the Atlantis resort didn’t seem to have very many shells.

As soon as you start digging down a little bit in the sand you find hundreds of shells. Just make sure that they don’t have anything living in them before you add them to your collection.

Arrange Transportation to Resort Before Your Trip

In the Facebook group, there were several different transportation options suggested for getting from the airport to the resort. I’m sure many of the options are great just make sure to arrange your transportation before you arrive for a less stressful travel day.

Don’t Forget the Drink Mixes

When we arrived at the resort they gave each person a refillable water bottle and there are filtered water stations throughout the resort.

I mentioned above that the water wasn’t always the best tasting. Some of the filling stations tasted better than others (we found the one by the coral pool to have the least of an aftertaste).

Adding a powdered drink mix packet to the water took away the funky taste and made it so much better. Our favorite drink mix was these individual mixes , but any of your favorites will be great.

Bahamas Family Vacation: Top 10 Tips for Visiting Atlantis with Kids

Paradise Island! Or not?

Planning to Visit The Atlantis with Kids?

A trip to the Atlantis with kids was a bucket list trip for our family. And don’t get me wrong, we had an amazing time. But, we could’ve done it better.

I’m’ a planner. I thought I did plenty of research. But… there were still quite a few things I wish I would’ve known beforehand!

Getting to the Atlantis Bahamas

The best way to get to the Atlantis is to fly into Nassau, (LPIA, formerly Nassau International Airport). We prearranged shuttle service from the airport to Atlantis through the resort but there appeared to be plenty of taxis available. It is about a 30 minute ride from the airport to the Atlantis resort.

Top 10 Tips for Visiting Atlantis with Kids!

I’ve compiled a list of my best tips, tricks, and things to know before you go to help make your Bahamas family vacation at the Atlantis resort a success! We definitely think the Bahamas is one of the best islands to visit with kids , but hopefully this will help you determine if the Atlantis Resort is the best tropical destination for your family vacation!

Is Atlantis Bahamas all inclusive? No! Unfortunately, it is not.

And…the Atlantis is very expensive! So just go ahead and prepare yourself for sticker shock. If you’re looking for a budget vacation, then the Atlantis resort is probably not for you. Even with all the “how to save money at the Atlantis” and “budget” tips out there, in the end it is still an expensive vacation. Yes, you can use your Marriott Bonvoy rewards for your room and airfare and that is a huge savings, but for the average family who are paying out of pocket, there aren’t a lot of ways to avoid the cost of getting there, staying, and food prices.

Know Before You Go : In addition to the cost of an item, a 15% gratuity and a 12% VAT (value added tax) will be added onto every purchase you make at the Atlantis.

Watch some of the highlights from our trip to the Atlantis:

2. Familiarize yourself with the Atlantis Resort BEFORE YOU GO with kids!

The Atlantis resort is HUGE! Try to familiarize yourself with the Atlantis property map ahead of time. Bring comfortable walking shoes, a stroller for little ones, and factor in walk time to get to your activity or destination. We wasted so much time just trying to figure out where things were.

Know Before You Go: After you familiarize yourself with the map, understand that the resort map is not very well done. We often found ourselves having to ask staff where things were located and some things aren’t on the map at all.

3. Accommodations: Where to Stay at Atlantis with Kids?

There are five different hotel towers at the Atlantis: The Reef, Cove, Royal, Beach, and Coral. There are also apartment style villas at the Harborside Resort. While there are pros and cons to each of the different places to stay at the Atlantis, your budget and how much space you need may be the deciding factors. Some rooms have kitchenettes while others do not.

Know Before You Go: We stayed at the Royal and while it was probably the most central location on the resort, the room fell short of our expectations. My in-laws stayed in the Coral tower and had a recently renovated room with an amazing view of the marina. Our friends stayed in the Reef and while it was more expensive, they were very happy with their accommodations. The Cove and Reef have a dedicated pool for their guests which also helps with the cruise crowds. While I normally book most reservations online, my best recommendation would be to call the resort to book and find out if the tower you are planning to stay in has been recently renovated.

4. Aquaventure: The Atlantis Waterpark

Aquaventure, the Atlantis waterpark, is a huge draw for most families traveling to the Atlantis with kids. With 11 pools, a lazy river, a rapids river, eight water slides, and a fantastic kids splash and play area, kids will be entertained all day long. Adults too for that matter!

You must be 48″ tall to ride the water slides…and trust me, they were sticklers for this rule! Wristbands are required and can be picked up daily at the towel huts with your room key or day pass (where you can get towels too!).

Know Before You Go : The rapids river was definitely a favorite with our family, but just a heads up it takes 20-30 minutes from start to finish! There are no descriptions of the rides out on the property and you can not see the entire slide in some cases. This was a bummer for my non thrill seeking child in the fact that he wasn’t sure what he was signing up for. He stuck to the serpent slide, rapids river, and the jungle slide mostly for a milder experience.

5. What is the Best Time of Year to Visit Atlantis with Kids?

I always recommend checking the average monthly temperatures in a location prior to making travel plans. We went to the Atlantis in November over Thanksgiving week because we went for a very specific event (the Battle 4 Atlantis basketball tournament which I highly recommend). The high was around 80 degrees Fahrenheit each day. This was almost too cold for me to be in the pools and oceans. While my family did ride most of the water slides, got in the pool and ocean, we were all shivering when we got out.

I’d definitely recommend going when the weather was a bit warmer than November. Remember to consider hurricane season and if you choose to go during fall then consider getting trip insurance.

Pro Tip : Consider what time the sun sets. If you go during the winter (the sunset was around 5 pm each day during our stay), you will be limited to what outdoor activities you can do each day.

6. What to Do at Atlantis for Kids that’s Included?

What’s included at the Atlantis for kids:

  • The Atlantis water park: Aquaventure
  • 11 pools & 5 miles of beaches
  • Rapids River ride and lazy river (life jackets available for free)
  • Viewing the marine habitats, aquariums, and some feedings
  • The Atlantis Theater
  • The Atlantis Library

You can also spend quite a bit of time just exploring the resort. There is a cool rope bridge, an underwater tunnel, and other fun things to see around the resort.

There are three beaches at the Atlantis- two of which you can go snorkeling at while the other beach the waves are much bigger. There is also a lagoon where you can rent theses giant paddle bicycle boat things, swim, or snorkel. You have to rent snorkel equipment if you don’t bring your own. If you choose to do the dolphin experience a snorkel and mask are included.

Pro-Tip : Check the daily sheet- if you don’t have one for each day of your stay, make sure to pick one up at the front desk. The shark feeding was a surprise favorite for us- free and very cool.

7. Extras & Excursions at the Atlantis for Kids

There are a ton of choices when it comes to extras at the Atlantis. You and your kids can swim with the pigs , do the dolphin experience, make your own pottery, race RC cars at the Atlantis speedway, hang out at the kids club, and more!

There are also quite a few things that your kids cannot do: the spa, comedy club, casino, golf, fitness facility, tennis, and more.

Know Before You Go : Full disclosure – we did the swim with the dolphins experience. I’ve recently been learning about ethical vs non ethical animal encounters. I was conflicted about the issue when we booked the experience, but went ahead with it because it was something my daughter had “dreamed of”.

The Atlantis touts their dolphin experience as dedicated to conservation, rehabilitation, and education. But I really didn’t feel like much education was being offered around the experience. They also make a pretty big deal about rescuing their first 17 dolphins from Hurricane Katrina. But the truth is they were already building a dolphin enclosure when those dolphins ended up in the wild and they now have over 40 dolphins. Like I said, I’m conflicted. It was a very cool experience. One my children absolutely loved every second of. In the end, it’s up to each individual to decide if they agree with this type of experience and wish to participate.

Going forward, I think we’re going to try to be more animal friendly travelers . Not so sure we’ll be doing anything like that again.

8. Food: Should you Buy the Atlantis Meal Plan?

The Atlantis Bahamas food was actually pretty good. I feel like that is one area where a lot of resorts fall short and overall we were very happy with the quality of food. The food prices at the Atlantis Bahamas on the other hand were out of control. We had friends to go a few months before us and they even warned us about the food costs and we were still shocked.

As you can see in some of the menu’s above, prices are very high. Murray’s is just a deli but Virgil’s is a family style restaurant. The buffet, Poseidon’s Table, was $133 for our family of four for breakfast and $230 for dinner (my daughter did count as an adult since she was 13 years old.) We got pizza, two salads, four drinks, and a dessert one night which was around $100. All I can say is food costs at the Atlantis really added up quickly.

We purchased the Aqua dining plan for our family. This is the basic plan and includes two meals a day from ten different restaurants. The cost is $85 per adult (ages 12 and older), $20 per child (ages 7-11), and free for children under the age of six. Again remember you have to add on the 12% VAT and $15 mandatory gratuity. We typically would eat a late breakfast around 10:30 am and dinner around 6 pm with our own snacks in between meals. We were relatively happy with the Atlantis dining plan but felt as though we were too limited within the ten restaurants.

I would recommend the dining plan if you have children who’d eat free, if you’re only there a couple of days and you’re not looking for fine dining, and if you don’t mind eating two main meals per day.

BONUS! The Atlantis was actually quite allergy friendly and the staff were knowledge and helpful concerning my son’s food allergy!!

9. Tips on Saving Money at the Atlantis

We’re big points people. We are loyal Marriott Bonvoy members and use points from our Capitol One Visa to cover a lot of our travel. Even if you can’t cover your stay or airfare with points, make sure to give the front desk your Bonvoy number and get credit for your stay!

Great ways to save money at the Atlantis:

  • Do the free daily activities- the animal feedings were surprisingly cool.
  • Make sure to leave time at checkout to go over your bill thoroughly- we caught several errors and they removed them without question.
  • If you’re hoping to have a few drinks, buy alcohol at the duty free shop in the airport and make your own beverage. Don’t forget to bring an insulated cup too! For reference a virgin daiquiri cost around $9, a mojito by the pool cost around $15 but a glass of wine and a mixed drink at the hotel lobby bar cost us $40.
  • Bring snacks with you!! We brought an entire backpack of snacks with us even though we still packed with just carry on only luggage!
  • Get a room with a kitchenette, grab some groceries, and fix food in your room.
  • Try a meal or two off property.
  • There is free WiFi in the rooms and pool areas. Three out of four of us only used WiFi, so we only had one phone with international phone fees.

Another way to save money at the Atlantis is to be prepared! Find out everything you need to bring in my Atlantis packing list post!

10. The Stuff No One Tells you About Going to the Atlantis.

Ok, here’s where my honest (and probably unpopular) opinion comes out. I feel like I’ve only heard people rave about the Atlantis. But, I truly think, for the money , there are better places to go than the Atlantis. I personally wouldn’t go back unless we were going for a special event. So many other resorts now have water parks, marine habitats, tropical excursions, etc. for less money. Nothing in particular stood out to me about the Atlantis that made it worth the price.

Here are some other drawbacks:

  • The cost of the food is outrageous.
  • The cruise ships, and other “established partners” sell day passes to the water park. The days the cruise ships are in port you may be fighting for a chair at the pool and waiting in much longer lines for rides and food than normal.
  • The beaches were fine, but to be honest, I’ve been to much nicer, more pristine beaches in the Caribbean.
  • My kids were bored in the evenings. For reference sake, we were there for a week. (I wouldn’t recommend going for that long.) They loved the water park during the day, but it closed each day at 5 pm. And after dinner there really wasn’t much for kids (ages 11 and 13) to do. My kids aren’t the type to go to the tween/teen “club”. And a free movie is fine but not every night. Mama wasn’t going to pay for the arcade every night and the aquarium is good once, maybe twice.

I don’t mean to come across negative. I just fully believe when you’re going to spend that much money on a vacation, you should know what you’re getting into!

Should you Go to the Atlantis with Kids?

  • If you’re looking for a budget vacation, then NO.
  • If large numbers of people and cruise ship crowds bother you, then NO.
  • If you and your family LOVE a water park, then YES.
  • If you are going for a special event (like we did), then YES.
  • If you like a vacation where you don’t have to leave the resort but you have to pay for most activities, then YES.
  • If you just want to see what the hype is about and check the Atlantis off your bucket list, then YES.

Ready to book your Atlantis vacation? Check out current rates and availability HERE !

In the end, there are a lot of pros and cons to going to the Atlantis with kids. With what seems like an incredibly family friendly vacation, there are a lot of adult only activities. If you LOVE a casino, the Atlantis has a very large and nice facility. We had a great trip and I can’t recommend it more if you’re going for the basketball tournament we went for. But…if you’re just looking for a great kid friendly tropical destination, I might recommend Aruba or an all inclusive in Mexico over the Atlantis, especially if you are budget conscious.

This resort looks amazing and is on my bucket list! I love that the meal plan is reasonably priced for kids – especially because mine are the pickiest!

So glad it was helpful!! (And I have one super picky kid too so I can totally relate!)

Julie, this is an amazing post! I’ve been on the hunt for an all-encompassing article on Atlantis and you’ve just provided it! This is a place we’ve always wanted to visit, so thanks for filling me in!

Thank you!! I’m so glad you think it’s helpful ??

wow this is very spot on from what I saw on my visit (I did a two hour tour with the tourism board) and what i have heard. Iknow several families that love it and go every year (I think the casino is a big draw for many parents). But yes, many AI’s have stepped up their water park game. a Few random things – the Reef is the apt style residences and it is more $ BUT they also have a dedicated pool (with the Cove) so that helps with cruise crowds. Cruise crowds are highest mid week as well.

Thanks for giving your honest opinion about your visit to Atlantis. I agree that Atlantis is one of those places everyone raves about and dreams about visiting. We’ve never gone mainly because of the price, but also because I didn’t think it would be a great fit for our family. Your review totally confirms what I imagined.

This is on my list now!

This is such a detailed and balanced post! The resort looks stunning too!

I’ve heard great things about the Atlantis Resort and love the tip on what time of year that you’re going because the sun sets can be earlier or later, which can make a huge difference. Thanks for a such a detailed post!

This gives me hope that one day when kiddos are in the picture we can still enjoy far off places ❤️ Thanks for sharing!

It sounds like there’s a lot of planning to go into this kind of trip! You’ve done a great job putting everything together.

We have been a few times with our three kids and the massive turnoff is the cost of the food . We ate much cheaper off the resort and explored Nassau more v staying and eating there exclusively the first time as costs were sO high . It was a great way to experience fresh fish at the beach but that too was a bit “rough” for travellers who may not care to venture away from the pearly gates of atlantis . Atlantis basic food pack is worth it, great meals, outstanding breakfasts and buffets . In the evenings we’d simply walk, exploring the resort at night v during the days by the pools and water park options. I always booked with Atlantis directly and got better pricing than was posted online simply because they had deals that were more current . When we got there, i asked if we could upgrade our room to a better suite for the same price, and they typically say yes as it’s not booked or being used . Great way to get more for the same there . I think I would go back, perhaps this time with couples instead, I’ve been a few times with just the girls but a couples trip to Atlantis would be a blast! great information .

Really good ideas to save money!! Especially getting off the resort for food. And we always ask for the upgrade- never hurts to ask, right?!?

Your Complete Packing List for an Unforgettable Vacation in Atlantis Bahamas

Coffee and Mascara travel blog affiliate disclosure

I spent a week staying at The Atlantis Bahamas resort so this blog post is based on my personal experience of what I wore and wish I’d had with me. From swimwear essentials to sunscreen must-haves, I’ve got you covered for what to pack and bring to Atlantis Bahamas.

Whether you’re seeking relaxation on the stunning beaches or seeking thrills at the Aquaventure Water Park, this comprehensive packing list will ensure you have everything you need for a truly memorable vacation.

Visiting Atlantis Bahamas was a bucket list trip for me and it was fantastic! I want to ensure that you have the best time ever as well 🤩

What to pack for Atlantis Bahamas

If you are planning a vacation to Atlantis Bahamas, get ready for an unforgettable experience in paradise! I have created the ultimate packing list to make your trip stress-free and enjoyable from start to finish. My experience staying there is going to help you know what to bring to Atlantis Bahamas.

Clothing essentials for your tropical getaway

Daytime essentials

  • Swimsuit cover-ups
  • Shorts and tank tops
  • Daytime dresses

Evening essentials

  • Pantsuits or rompers
  • Breathable pants for windy evenings
  • Lightweight cardigan

When packing for your tropical getaway in Atlantis Bahamas, remember that it’s very hot in The Caribbean. I suggest packing lightweight, breathable clothing that will keep you cool and comfortable in the warm climate.

Bring clothing made from natural fabrics such as silk, cotton or linen, as they are more breathable and will help you stay cool in the heat. It’s a hot and humid climate so leave your polyester at home.

The one item I wore every single day was a bikini. After all, you are staying at the largest water park in The Caribbean! I woke up, put on a bathing suit and cover-up and headed down for breakfast.

Swimsuit cover-ups are by far the best thing you can bring to Atlantis Bahamas. You will wear them every day so bring a few different ones. Anthropologie has some very cute dresses and cover-ups .

Add lots of swimsuit coverups to your Bahamas Packing list

Shop the cutest beach cover-ups here 🏖

For pool and waterpark days, I wore a swimsuit coverup over my bikini and then changed into a dress for dinner and the rest of the evening. I lived in dresses and rompers at night because they are light and airy and breathe. And rompers are great for those evenings that are extra windy.

To avoid packing way too much, opt for items that will mix and match. Pack a variety of tops, including t-shirts, tank tops, and lightweight blouses that can be easily mixed and matched with different bottoms. Just because you only bring a few items doesn’t mean you need to wear the exact same outfit twice.

For bottoms, pack a combination of shorts, skirts, and lightweight pants. Consider packing a few dresses that can be worn for both daytime exploring and evening dinners by simply switching up your shoes and adding accessories. This is one of my favourite travel hacks – bring double-cuty clothes.

You should also pack a lightweight sweater or cardigan for cooler or windy evenings.

Which fabrics to wear and avoid in Atlantis Bahamas

Fabrics to wear:

  • Thin, light crochet

Fabrics to avoid:

  • Thick or heavy crochet

Atlantis Bahamas swimming lagoon

Swimwear and beach accessories

  • 3+ bathing suits
  • Sunglasses cord
  • Towel clips
  • Reusable cup

For a one-week stay, I’d suggest having at least three swimsuits . After all, you are staying at the largest waterpark in the Caribbean and you’re likely going to get wet every day.

Because it’s hot and humid, don’t expect your bathing suit to dry overnight which is why I recommend bringing three and not just two. I brought six with me but I like to wear a different bikini every day 😉

Sunhat and beach bag

Bring a beach bag that can hold all your essentials when you’re headed to the water. This is the one item I forget all the time. I always end up toting around my purse because I failed to remember a beach bag. Don’t make the same mistake!

Look for a beach bag that is spacious, lightweight, and preferably waterproof. This way, you can easily carry your sunscreen, beach towel, towel clips, and other beach accessories without worrying about them getting wet or sandy.

Editor’s pick – I’m obsessed with this beach bag! 💼

Towel clips are a recent obsession of mine and I highly recommend them to anyone going on a beach vacation. Pictured below are my pink margarita glass towel clips and I can’t tell you how awesome it is when the wind blows and your towel stays put. No more fighting with your towel sliding down, you can just enjoy your poolside cocktail.

Bring your reuseable cup on your Bahamas vacation

You should also bring a reusable cup, as you see pictured above, it’s the best way to not only save the environment from plastic cups but also keep your drinks cold in the hot heat. I always travel with a water bottle and a to-go cup for other drinks.

You’ll want to bring a few different sunglasses with you. I also suggest having a cord for your sunglasses so you don’t lose them in the lazy river or zipping down a water slide. I swear by mine and would’ve lost my sunglasses several times over if it weren’t for my cord.

👒 These folding sunhats make packing a breeze! 👒

Lastly, don’t forget a hat to protect yourself from the sun’s rays. I love my sunhat with a ponytail holder so I can keep my hair off my neck when it’s really hot. And it keeps my hair up and dry for quick dips in the water.

A word of caution – don’t use a sun visor in place of a sun hat. The top of your head needs to be protected from the sun as well as your face. You risk heat stroke if you leave the top of your head exposed. Wear a proper sun hat to avoid this because it’s awful!

Every Bahamas packing list should include a sunhat

It’s important to pack a high-SPF sunscreen to protect your skin from the strong tropical sun. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that offers protection against both UVA and UVB rays and that is waterproof. And, if you plan on swimming in the ocean, be sure to get a reef-friendly version.

I wanted to save room in my suitcase so I figured I’d just buy sunscreen when I arrived. Don’t do this! While they sell it at Atlantis, it’s very expensive. Buy yours at home and bring it with you.

You’ll also want to pack a lip balm with SPF. Remember to reapply your sunscreen every few hours, especially if you’ll be spending a lot of time in the water.

☀️ Get your reef-friendly sunscreen here ☀️

Footwear for exploring Atlantis Bahamas

  • comfortable sandals
  • water shoes
  • dressy sandals or wedge heels

Choosing the proper footwear for your vacation in Atlantis Bahamas is essential, as you’ll be doing a lot of walking and exploring. Aquaventure is a 141-acre water park so you’re going to be getting in a lot of steps!

I typically have a rule of three when it comes to packing footwear – 1 pair of sandals, 1 pair of runners, and 1 pair of dressy shoes. For this trip, I’d say you should also bring a pair of flip-flops for the water park. And you can leave the 4″ heels at home because this isn’t the place for them.

What footwear to bring to Atlantis Bahamas should include a combination of comfortable sandals, flip-flops, and sneakers. Opt for sandals that are sturdy and offer good arch support for long walks.

Look for flip-flops that are comfortable and secure so you can wear them both on the beach and around the resort. Bring ones with support for all the walking you’ll be doing. Pack a pair of sneakers or walking shoes for any adventurous activities or hikes you may have planned.

Editor’s pick for comfortable and stylish waterproof sandals 🩴

It’s also a good idea to pack a pair of water shoes, especially if you plan on snorkelling or exploring rocky areas. Water shoes will protect your feet from sharp rocks or coral, and they’ll provide better traction on slippery surfaces. Invest in a pair that is lightweight, quick-drying, and comfortable.

Tropicla vacation packing lists should include snorkel gear and water shoes.

Essential toiletries and personal care items

  • toothbrush and toothpaste
  • hairbrush/comb
  • hair styling products
  • hair elastics and clips
  • waterproof makeup
  • feminine products

When it comes to toiletries and personal care items, it’s important to pack the essentials while keeping it minimal. Atlantis Bahamas provides basic toiletries including shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, so you don’t need to pack these items unless you have specific requirements.

Essential toiletries to pack include a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, deodorant, and any necessary medications or prescriptions. And for us gals, bring something to tame your mane because if you have curly hair like I do, it will get really big with the humidity.

In terms of personal care items, pack a travel-sized hairbrush or comb, hair ties or clips, and any styling products you may need. If you wear makeup, be sure to bring waterproof mascara. Opt for travel-sized or sample-sized products to save space in your luggage.

Lastly, don’t forget about personal hygiene items such as feminine products, razors, and hand sanitizer. These small items can easily be overlooked but are essential for your comfort and hygiene.

Crochet swimsuit cover-ups should be in every Bahamas packing list

Electronics and gadgets to enhance your vacation experience

  • phone charger
  • waterproof camera
  • waterproof phone case
  • Bluetooth speaker
  • IPad/tablet
  • Adaptor (if needed)

In today’s digital age, electronics and gadgets are an essential part of any vacation. First and foremost, don’t forget to pack your phone charger. I can’t tell you how many times I have lent out my phone charger to a friend or colleague during a trip!

If you’re an avid reader, consider packing an iPad or other tablet so you can enjoy your favourite books while lounging on the beach. These devices are lightweight and can store thousands of books, allowing you to have a variety of reading options without taking up precious suitcase space.

For taking epic shots in Atlantis’ Aquaventure Water Park, don’t forget to pack a waterproof camera or case. Atlantis Bahamas offers stunning underwater scenery, and having a waterproof camera will allow you to capture those magical moments while snorkelling or swimming with marine life.

Aquaventure Waterpark is all-inclusive for Atlantis guests

For me, my GoPro is a must-have item for what to pack for Atlantis Bahamas. I had my GoPro and loved filming riding the waterslides.

If you plan on spending a lot of time on the beach, a portable Bluetooth speaker can enhance your experience. You can listen to your favourite tunes while sunbathing or having a beach picnic with friends and family. We don’t leave home without ours.

And remember to pack the necessary chargers and adapters for your electronic devices. Atlantis Bahamas uses the US standard voltage of 120V, so if you’re travelling from a different country, you may need a voltage converter or adapter. It’s always cheaper to buy an adaptor before you leave home. This is the one I have and I love it!

Travel documents and essentials

Before embarking on your vacation to Atlantis Bahamas, it’s important to ensure you have all the necessary travel documents and essentials. First and foremost, ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months from your departure date. Check the expiration date and make a copy of your passport, just in case it gets lost or stolen.

If you’re travelling from a different country, check if you need a visa or any other entry requirements. Ensure that you have all the necessary documents, such as flight tickets, hotel reservations, and travel insurance information. It’s a good idea to have digital copies of these documents stored on your phone or in the cloud, so you can access them easily in case of any emergencies.

Oh, and on your list of what to bring to Atlantis Bahamas, don’t forget to pack a pen. It’s rare that we use pens nowadays, but travelling is one time they are indispensable. You may need it to fill out arrival and departure cards or any other paperwork during your journey.

Pro tip: I keep a small pen inside my headphones case because they always hand out paperwork on flights and I always fly with my noise-canceling headphones.

Additional tips for a memorable vacation

Atlantis Resort - Bahamas With Kids

T he Bahamas, a chain of islands made up of over 700 islands and cays, is one of the more popular tourist destinations in the Caribbean. Nassau, the capital city of the Bahamas, is also its largest city, and it connects to the small island of Paradise Island via two bridges. Emerging from Paradise Island like the mythical land for which it was named is the Atlantis resort, a family-friendly vacation destination.

Several weeks ago, as part of a press trip with Nassau/Paradise Island, my son and I stayed at the Reef Tower of Atlantis for three nights. We really enjoyed our stay, and plan to return with the rest of our family soon.

Bahamas family vacations can vary dramatically – from a relaxing beach vacation to an adventure vacation (and everything in between). An Atlantis Paradise Island vacation is all of that and more. It really does include something for everyone.

Disclosure: I received a complimentary trip to Nassau/Paradise Island which included a stay at the Atlantis Bahamas Resort. All opinions are my own. Affiliate links within. Purchasing and/or clicking on some of the links in this post may result in a commission paid to us.

Atlantis Resort Bahamas Review

Rooms at atlantis.

If you are going on an Atlantis Bahamas family vacation, you’ll first want to figure out where you would like to stay. There are multiple towers at Atlantis – the Reef and Cove Towers are the most luxurious,  Beach Tower  is the most economical, and the Coral and Royal Towers are a happy medium.

We stayed in the Reef Tower, with a gorgeous ocean view of the beach and the port of Nassau. Our room had a king bed and pullout couch, a small dining area with two chairs, loads of closet space, and a bathroom with a large tub, shower stall, and a two-sink vanity.

The Reef Tower rooms are the only rooms with mini kitchens, and our room was outfitted with a range top, microwave, mini dishwasher, blender, mini fridge, and cooking supplies, all tucked into wooden cabinets under the large-screen television.

Atlantis is a large resort, and a shuttle is available to take you to various locations throughout the resort. The Reef does feel a bit remote from some of the amenities, but it’s also nice to be removed from the hustle and bustle of the Royal Towers (where the casino and nightclubs are located).

The Service at Atlantis

As you may imagine, Atlantis employs many people, and all of the employees we encountered were extremely friendly and helpful, especially the housekeepers. There was some confusion among staff about the complimentary bottled water available as part of the resort fee (which includes 2) – I was given a few different answers, but I think that is because the policy varies by the tower.

Some towers provide water with turndown service, while others offer coupons for guests to get water at quick-serve restaurants.

We did encounter long lines a few times during our stay – at the Starbucks in our resort, at the front desk, at the towel stand, and at the concierge. However, we found that the mornings were quiet. Things definitely got started later in the day.

Aquaventure at Atlantis

The Aquaventure waterpark is definitely one of the highlights at Atlantis. The highlight is the iconic Mayan Temple, pictured below.  This 141-acre waterpark includes several water slides, 20 different swim areas, a mile-long current and rapids ride, a splash park, and 11 swimming pools.

Wristbands are required for entry (on-property guests need to get a new one each day from a towel stand), and admission is complimentary for resort guests.

My son was a bit nervous to go on the water slides, but we absolutely loved the current and rapids ride. It’s a bit more adventurous than a lazy river but is so much fun. If riding with a child, I’d recommend using a double float. It’s easy to get separated on the mile-long adventure.

Beaches and Pools at Atlantis

In addition to the Aquaventure rides, there are several additional beaches and pools. We spent most of our time at Paradise Beach, located right by the Reef Tower. There were lots of chairs (some with sunshades) available, even when we arrived at the beach late in the day. We didn’t bring along our snorkel equipment, but still saw loads of fish right in the shallow water.

There’s also a private zero-entry pool for guests of the Reef and the Cove called Cascades Pool. We spent some time there, and my son really enjoyed it. It’s quieter than some of the other pools and is just steps from the Reef and Cove Towers.

Dining at Atlantis

Atlantis is home to dozens of restaurants and bars, including quick service and fine dining locations. We dined at several family-friendly restaurants including Bimini Road and Carmine’s (in Marina Village), and Virgil’s BBQ. Carmine’s and Virgil’s both offer family-style entrees and are great for larger groups. Reservations are recommended at some of the more popular restaurants, and the concierges at the towers can assist with that.

There are numerous quick service spots located throughout the resort as well, offering things like sandwiches, ice cream, hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, and conch fritters. The food we had was delicious but be prepared to pay higher rates than what you’d pay in the U.S.

Kids’ Activities at Atlantis

In addition to the pools, beaches, and waterpark, Atlantis offers many family activities. Each morning, be sure to pick up a copy of the Daily Atlantean – a schedule of events for the day.

One of the fun activities we participated in was pottery painting at the Earth and Fire Pottery Studio, located in Beach Tower. For an additional fee, children are able to choose a piece of pottery and paint it. Fired pieces are available for pickup after 4 pm the next day, so be sure to do it with enough time to get your completed work.

My son also enjoyed viewing the animals located throughout the resort. My little turtle lover insisted that we find the sea turtles and just sat watching them.

We also explored the Dig, an Atlantis-themed aquarium at the resort. We’d been there before, on a cruise ship excursion, but we liked wandering around in the evening. Admission to the Dig is included in a resort stay.

For longer animal experiences, Dolphin Cay offers dolphin and sea lion experiences, as well as “trainer for a day” adventures. Guests pay separately for these experiences, and those who want to observe also have to pay for admission to the beach.

We didn’t get to experience the kids’ clubs located on the property but did walk by a few times. The clubs are a good option for parents who want to experience some of the fine dining locations, nightclubs, entertainment, or casinos. There’s also the Ocean Club Golf Course located on the property.

Our three-night experience at Atlantis was a good amount of time. I’d probably recommend staying five nights to experience most of the resort. Flights arrive at Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport, which is about a 45-minute ride from Atlantis. Shared van rides are available, and are probably the most economical.
