#TravelThrowback: Philippine tourism slogans and campaigns through the years

By Kara Santos Published Aug 30, 2022 2:10 pm Updated Aug 30, 2022 3:13 pm

Slogans play a large part in promoting a travel destination and attracting tourists not only within the country, but all over the world.

Just think of "Incredible India," "Amazing Thailand," and "Malaysia, Truly Asia." These slogans immediately bring images of the destinations to mind. Some country’s tourism slogans are just so timeless and have great recall value that tourists know exactly what to expect.

For the past 10 years, the Philippines has been using “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” as its main tourism slogan. But with a new administration in place this year, the campaign could soon change.

In a report by PhilStar.com earlier this month, current Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco said that the Department of Tourism (DOT) was considering replacing the slogan with a new one anchored on making the Filipino brand more “distinct.”

The tourism chief said the new branding campaign will “take into consideration the change in circumstances, citing that amid the COVID-19 pandemic, people are now in search for substantial and immersive experiences anchored on cultural experience.”

While the tourism agency is still brewing up a new campaign, since travel borders are reeopning, now seems like a good time to take a look back at some of the hits and misses in tourism marketing of the Philippines.

The country has had its fair share of different promotional slogans through the years. A Wall Street Journal article published in 2001 pointed out that for years, the country struggled to find a catchy slogan. The report cited campaigns in the past including "Philippines: Where Asia Wears A Smile," " Fiesta Islands Philippines ," "Rediscovery Philippines" and the almost-apologetic "Consider the Philippines."

In an official proclamation, then-president Cory Aquino declared 1989 as the Philippine Fiesta Year. A national council was also created to promote the country as the Fiesta Islands of 1989.

However, it was two decades ago when one of the most memorable slogans in local tourism was born.

WOW Philippines (2002)

WOW Philippines was used as the campaign and tagline for tourism from 2002 to 2010. The tagline, which had the sub-slogan "More Than the Usual” was conceptualized by then Department of Tourism secretary Richard "Dick" Gordon in 2002 under the term of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The promotional campaign was reportedly based on the 24-month Visit Philippines 2003 campaign by the World Tourism Organization, which aimed to encourage overseas Filipinos to visit tourism destinations in their home country. The slogan was also an attempt to rebrand the Philippines to highlight tropical white-sand beaches and diverse attractions to counter the country's negative portrayal in the media due to political instability and conflicts during those times.

logos travel filipiny

The logo, which used mainly primary colors of red and blue, incorporated unique elements of Philippine culture including a jeepney and festival mask, as well as a sun, coconut tree, diver and boat to reflect the tropical beaches and landscapes.

WOW actually doubled as an acronym, referring to several different aspects about Philippine travel including “Wealth of Wonders” (tourist attractions), “Warm Over Winter” (beaches), “Wild Over Water”(water-based adventures), and “Wacko Over Wildlife” (for the country’s rich indigenous flora and fauna), among others.

The WOW Philippines campaign was considered highly successful and managed to put the Philippines on the world tourism map for the first time. Incidentally, the former tourism secretary also used "WOW Dick" as his campaign slogan when he ran for senator, banking on the campaign's popuilarity.

Pilipinas Kay Ganda (2010)

Pilipinas Kay Ganda (which literally translates to "Philippines, So Beautiful") was a short-lived campaign launched by DOT back in 2010 which (thankfully) failed to take off. Initially aimed to replace the WOW Philippines campaign, the logo and branding used similar colors and elements as the former logo including a sun and coconut tree (with a smiling face), a tarsier, and wavy lines to signify the beach and tropical island vibe.

logos travel filipiny

Unfortunately, the slogan and associated logo received a lot of flak from the Filipino public when it was first released, prematurely to the public, according to the advertising agency Campaigns & Grey, which supervised the design. A controversy arose because the logo bore a similar look to the logo of the Polish tourism campaign, Polska in terms of style, colors and font design used.

The widespread criticism led to the eventual scrapping of the new slogan by no less than President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and the resignation of the country's then-Tourism Secretary, Alberto Lim.

It’s More Fun in the Philippines (2012)

In 2012, the DOT started a brand new campaign that aimed to brand the Philippines as the perfect destination for beach bums and dive lovers. The slogan "It's More Fun in the Philippines" was conceptualized with the help of BBDO Guerrero and Proximity Philippines under then Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez Jr., an advertising executive.

logos travel filipiny

The punchy slogan aimed to show what sets the country apart from others in terms of the “fun factor” and entice foreign visitors to visit our shores. The colorful logo showed recreated the Philippine map in a textile type weave, while the official AVP highlighted the diverse islands, beaches, tourist sites, festivals and food of the country. The visuals, set to fast-paced music, were dynamic and exciting and highlighted the unique aspects and culture of the country that adventurous foreign tourists could look forward to.

The “More Fun” slogan caught on and became wildly popular with Pinoy users submitting their own photos and reasons why the Philippines was "more fun" with the help of an online meme maker. The user-generated ads that channeled the pride of millions of Filipinos managed to gain a lot of traction in promoting the country overseas, resulting in higher tourist arrivals for the country.

The Tourism Promotions Board also collaborated with world renowned artist and Philippine Tourism Ambassador Apl.de.Ap for one of the promotional campaigns.

Under this campaign, from 2011 to 2016, tourist arrivals and revenues almost doubled, and the Philippines improved 20 places in a tourism competitive index among nations.

Experience the Philippines (2016)

In 2016, there were talks that the “It’s More Fun” slogan would be replaced to reflect then President Rodrigo Duterte’s goal to institute reforms in the country.

At one point, former tourism secretary Wanda Teo planned to scrap the campaign in 2017 and replace it with “Experience the Philippines,” a more emotional approach that aimed to tug at the heartstrings of viewers. The minimalist logo retained the monochomatic colors in the Philippines text and a smaller "It's more fun in the Philippines" tagline in a smaller white font right below.

logos travel filipiny

Right in time for Philippine Independence Day, the Department of Tourism l aunched the TV commercial "Sights" produced by McCann Worldgroup Philippines which featured a Japanese retiree wearing a tourist hat and dark glasses named M. Uchimura touring the different destinations in the Philippines. The ad, which eventually revealed that the retiree was visually-impaired, ended with a voice-over saying, “here, you don’t have to see the sun to discover radiance. You don’t have to see colors to experience vibrance. You don’t have to see smiles to know you are safe.”

At the time, the campaign drew mixed reactions on social media, with many netizens skeptical about promoting the Philippines as a PWD-friendly destination, and pointing out all the negative events happening around the country. Netizens were also quick to draw comparisons to the “Rediscover South Africa” advertisement, which shared a similar concept and plot twist, and criticize the campaign's lack of originality.

It’s More Fun in the Philippines / More Fun Awaits (present)

Bernadette Romulo Puyat decided to retain the “More Fun” campaign when she was appointed DOT chief mid-2018. However, the former logo was given a slight makeover and got refreshed with a custom-made Philippine-inspired font called Barabara, inspired by lettering seen on jeepneys. The Philippine map logo got simplified with just a few lines.

logos travel filipiny

The new design was said to be more “rooted in traditional motifs and colors” while the new logo was inspired by local woven textiles, and is considered as the “core of a fresh graphic identity system” symbolizing the DOT’s fun, contemporary, and more sustainable offerings.

During the pandemic era when travel borders were closed, DOT also launched its "More Fun Awaits" campaign with the same look to promote newly-developed products and packages featuring different activities, experiences, destinations and attractions for tourists to discover and enjoy in the country once it's safe to travel again.

logos travel filipiny

The new ads were notably not as fast-paced and frenetic as the earlier “It’s More Fun” ads, and highlighted mainly the outdoor attractions and safety and health protocols of travel during the new normal.

Which of these tourism slogans is your favorite? Do you think it's time for another tourism campaign makeover now that travel borders everywhere are starting to reopen?

U.S. Embassy in Israel Restricts Personal Employee Travel After Iran Attack Threats

T he U.S. Embassy in Israel has issued a new security alert that restricts its government employees and their family members from personal travel outside three cities amid heightened tensions in the region.

The alert restricted personal travel outside the greater Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Be’er Sheva areas until further notice “out of an abundance of caution.”

The embassy said it may also further prohibit travel to certain areas of Israel, including the Old City of Jerusalem, and the West Bank, “in response to security incidents and without advance notice.”

“The U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem reminds U.S. citizens of the continued need for caution and increased personal security awareness as security incidents often take place without warning,” the security alert published Thursday read . “The security environment remains complex and can change quickly depending on the political situation and recent events.”

The security warning comes after an Israeli airstrike hit an Iranian embassy building in Damascus, Syria on April 1, killing at least seven Iranian officials and ratcheting up fears of a regional war. The Israeli government hasn’t publicly acknowledged the strike.

Iran has vowed to retaliate against Israel and hold the country’s ally, the U.S., answerable. (American officials said Israel did not notify them about the strike and the U.S. was not involved.)

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has said that Israel "must be punished and it shall be,” Reuters reported. Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian previously said in a statement that "The U.S. should be held accountable.”

In turn, Israeli leaders have pledged to respond: “If Iran attacks from its own territory, Israel will respond and attack in Iran,” Foreign Minister Israel Katz posted on X in an English translation.

The tense situation has left U.S. officials scrambling to contain the fallout amid fears that Iran could strike U.S. targets in response. U.S. Gen. Erik Kurilla, head of U.S. Central Command, traveled to Israel on Thursday to address the threats. President Joe Biden said this week that support for Israel against the threat of a “significant attack” from Iran is “ironclad.”

When asked during a news conference Thursday whether the new Israel travel alert was linked to the threat from Iran, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said: “We have seen Iran making public threats against Israel in the past few days.”

“Israel’s in a very tough neighborhood, and we have been monitoring the security situation. You saw us slightly adjust our travel warnings at the beginning of this conflict, and we conduct ongoing assessments all the time about the situation on the ground,” he added.

Miller said he wouldn’t speak to the specific assessments that prompted restricting personal travel, but said the decision was made as a result of monitoring the threat environment in the Middle East, and was made public to ensure U.S. citizens living or traveling in Israel were also aware.

Miller said that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke to his counterparts in Turkey, China, and Saudi Arabia over the past 24 hours “to make clear that escalation is not in anyone’s interest, and that countries should urge Iran not to escalate.” (The U.S. and Iran have had no diplomatic relations since 1980.)

Amir-Abdollahian said in a post on X that “Iran is not seeking escalation of hostility,” but added he had told the foreign ministers of Germany, the U.K., and Australia in separate calls to condemn Israel’s attack on the embassy building in Damascus. Amir-Abdollahian said that the return to “sustainable security” was tied to “controlling” Israel and ending its war in Gaza.

The strike in Syria this month was the latest in a series of tense incidents between the region’s major players and their allies following Hamas’ attack on Israel in October and the ensuing war that has devastated Gaza. Those include increased violence along the Israel-Lebanon border between Israel’s military and Hezbollah militants, Red Sea attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels that prompted retaliatory airstrikes from the U.S. and U.K., and a drone strike that killed three U.S. soldiers in Jordan, triggering a U.S. air assault in response against militias.

Travel agency logo with the title 'UNCHARTED COLLECTION'

UNCHARTED COLLECTION

When I see a word uncharted and related to a journey, I imagined "adventure" and especially for this industry, an adventure in a luxurious way. This logo has a dual meaning. First of all, the icon represents a compass arrow facing up but as a puzzle, this puzzled arrow shape needs to be put together. This concept represents "adventures and challenges". And the second meaning represents a subtle image of a sailboat in an abstract way to represents the journey. So when someone asks... "What's the meaning of the logo?" you can simply say... an adventure in a luxurious way! UC specializes in the booking of high-end sailing yachts in the Caribbean for traveling and adventure.

U.S. restricts travel for Israel staff as Iran attack fears rise

The United States has restricted travel for its staff in Israel , as fears grow of an imminent retaliatory attack by Iran .

The U.S. embassy in Jerusalem issued a security alert Thursday restricting its employees and their family members from personal travel outside the greater Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Be’er Sheva areas until further notice “out of an abundance of caution.”

The warning comes as Israel’s military vowed it would defend the country and respond, with expectations mounting that Tehran will soon strike back for the attack on its embassy in Syria that killed a number of senior commanders. The exchanges have raised fears that the Israel-Hamas war that has devastated the Gaza Strip could escalate into a wider conflict.

Israel never claimed responsibility for the airstrike on its rival’s consulate in Damascus, but Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said earlier this week that Israel “must be punished and it shall be,” for what he considered an effective attack on Iranian soil.

The U.S. has promised support for its ally in the face of Iranian threats and worked to persuade Tehran to avoid significant escalation, but Israel has signaled its readiness for whatever retribution may be coming.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said Thursday that a direct Iranian attack will require “an appropriate Israeli response” against Iran, while an Israel Defense Forces spokesperson, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, said that the country was “alert and highly prepared” for a variety of scenarios.

“Whoever harms us, we will harm them,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also said Thursday as he visited an airbase. “We are prepared to meet all of the security needs of the State of Israel, both defensively and offensively,” he added.

Netanyahu vowed Thursday that Israel was prepared for scenarios beyond Gaza.

The growing tensions in the Middle East come as Palestinians in Gaza marked somber Eid celebrations this week amid severe food shortages despite Israeli promises to allow more humanitarian aid into the enclave. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday that famine in Gaza was “imminent,” after USAID Administrator Samantha Power said a day earlier that it was “credible” to assess that famine had already begun in the territory.

More than 33,600 people have now been killed in Gaza, the enclave’s Health Ministry said, in the six months of war since the Hamas-led attack on Israel on Oct. 7, which killed an estimated 1,200 people.

The militant group’s political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, said Hamas was still seeking a cease-fire deal despite the deaths of his three sons in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza earlier this week, but talks to secure a truce and the release of remaining hostages remain deadlocked .

It remained unclear whether Iran’s retaliation would come in the form of a direct attack or through some of the web of Tehran-backed groups who have already waged attacks from Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen in recent months.

Tehran has so far avoided direct confrontation with Israel or Washington. But Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said Thursday that “legitimate defense with the aim of punishing the aggressor” was a necessity in the wake of the consulate strike, accusing Israel of targeting diplomatic premises in violation of international law, according to Iranian state-run news agency IRNA.

The Pentagon said Thursday that top U.S. commander for the Middle East, Gen. Michael “Erik” Kurilla, had moved up his trip to Israel so he could meet with Israeli military leadership and discuss “current security threats.”

President Joe Biden said Wednesday that Iran was threatening to launch a “significant attack on Israel,” and that the U.S. commitment to Israel’s security against threats from Iran and its proxies remained “ironclad” despite growing criticism from Washington of its ally’s actions in Gaza.

The White House also said Thursday that the U.S. has communicated to Iran that it had no involvement in the strike in Damascus, and warned Iran not to use this attack as a pretext to escalate further in the region, or to attack U.S. facilities or personnel.

Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei looks at the coffins of members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in Tehran

Secretary of State Antony Blinken has held telephone conversations with his Chinese, Turkish and Saudi counterparts “to make clear that escalation is not in anyone’s interest” and that countries should urge Iran not to escalate.

“We have also engaged with European allies and partners over the past few days and urged them as well to send a clear message to Iran that escalation is not in Iran’s interest, it’s not in the region’s interest, and it’s not in the world’s interest,” spokesman Matthew Miller said Thursday .

British foreign minister David Cameron said he had made it clear to his Iranian counterpart that the Islamic Republic must not draw the Middle East into a wider conflict.

“I am deeply concerned about the potential for miscalculation leading to further violence,” Cameron said on X .

France warned its citizens Friday to “imperatively refrain from travel in the coming days to Iran, Lebanon, Israel and the Palestinian Territories.” German airline Lufthansa and its subsidiary Austrian Airlines, the only two Western carriers flying into Tehran, extended a suspension of flight to the Iranian capital.

19 Travel Logos Fit for a Travel Reboot in 2021

Learn what makes a travel logo inspirational and relevant for a good branding strategy in 2021, with 19 examples divided into four categories.

Table of Contents

The travel industry is changing. Get your travel company ready for a new way of doing business with a contemporary logo that these great examples will help you create!

Remember traveling? Yeah, me neither.

Then again, maybe we’re just not thinking out of the box. I know plenty of people who’ve had some great mini-trips over the past year: weekends at mountains and lakes; spa centers or small historical towns in their country of residence.

The covid-19 pandemic has definitely struck the tourism and travel industry hard , forcing travel agencies to rethink their business strategies and offers completely.

Trying to keep your travel business afloat in these trying times is no small feat, but whether we like it or not, good branding and design are as relevant as ever . If you’re hoping to double down once travel becomes more possible again and are thinking about an exciting rebrand, or want a new travel logo to match your revisited travel offer, here are some exciting logo examples that can teach you a thing or two about the perfect logo design!

Means of transportation logos

The classic airplane or boat logo is something we’re used to seeing with online travel logo makers, so it takes real design skill and talent to transform this overused imagery into something unique and memorable. Here are just a few great logo ideas to inspire you.

The travel industry is changing in more ways than one. Airbnb and similar holiday home-booking platforms are dominating the market for younger clients. And the possibility to make an online booking is definitely something most millennials would prefer over a visit to the travel agency office. So developing an app for your travel company is a great way to connect with younger clients . Of course, an app logo needs to follow the usual trends in the industry: it has to be memorable and simple enough to fit on a mobile device screen.

This travel booking app logo is a wonderful example to learn from. It’s still industry-relevant, but with a great modern design with gradients allowing for a cool 3D effect.

tripped travel logo

If you want to avoid the cheap logo template look, you ought to make sure that any graphic elements are perfectly incorporated with your business name. The logo creator behind this project used the curve of the letter O to create a path for the flying airplane. This simple trick, along with an attractive color palette and a crisp sans serif font (Gotham Black) works perfectly to create a fun, yet very professional brand image for this travel and tourism company in Oman.

obeidat travel logo

3. Turinform

Airplanes are much more common on travel logos, but of course, any good logo design should clearly communicate your unique selling point. This breezy logo belongs to an agency that organizes boat trips, so of course, the logo designer used maritime imagery to create this cool concept. This is really successful when it comes to evoking a certain feeling: the sails, the sun and the seagull paint a really great mental image. And yet, if you take apart the graphic elements, you’ll see the design is very simple, which makes it great for use on business cards, letterheads as well as web design!

sturinform travel logo

4. Soul Trip

Ok, so how about something really different? Camping trips might just be the perfect way to enjoy a holiday whilst staying safe from coronavirus risks. Since many campers are also avid surfers, this is a great idea to include in your travel company offer. This hip combination mark fits perfectly on t-shirts, hoodies and hydro flasks, and would make a great freebie to give to new customers as part of your holiday offer.

soul trip travel logo

5. Signature Yacht Logo

Yacht rental is definitely a premium service not anyone can afford (I contemplated doing it with a group of friends one year, but the pricing put that idea permanently on hold). For that reason, a logo for a travel agency that offers this type of service needs to exude elegance and exclusivity. This wonderful logo design uses the company name to create a graphic element that looks like the outline of a boat, but also a handwritten signature. You can even buy this high-quality logo if you like it, directly from the logo designer. Or subscribe to ManyPixels and let us handle all your design requests for a flat monthly fee!

signature travel logo

Palm tree and other nature logos

Sandy beaches, turquoise water and palm trees gently swaying the breeze… what more do you need to complete a mental image of a perfect holiday! For that reason, it’s this particular type of foliage that’s incredibly popular with travel logo design—and yes you can often find them even with free travel logos. But for something much more custom and unique, check out these creative design solutions.

6. Travelonista

This lovely logo design for a tour operator in Kyiv perfectly evokes the feeling of sitting in the shade of a palm tree, with this simple and elegant illustration. The company uses the logo in green on its social media, for a more traditional look. But the great thing about this logo is that it works well in different colors. For example, this pink design really helps evoke the feeling of a romantic sunset on the beach.

travelonista travel logo

7. Florida Outdoor Experience

Emblems are the oldest type of logos , so naturally not everyone’s first pick when coming up with a new logo idea. However, in the travel industry, they can be a great choice, since they also resemble the stamps and stickers people used to get on their suitcases when traveling. This cool emblem is perfect for a travel brand wishing to convey a sense of nostalgia and perhaps attract younger audiences that will appreciate the retro style .

florida outdoor experience travel logo

8. RedNutmeg

The right choice of typography is the prerequisite for a successful logo, and this example for a travel blogger website is a great one to learn from. Adding the palm tree to this breezy and playful brush font makes for a great and memorable logo.

rednutmeg travel logo

9. Cone Forest Travel Logo

So, we promised you more than palm trees (after all, tropical vacations are looking to be out of reach for most of us a little longer), and here’s a lovely logo to inspire you. Like we said local mountain and lake vacations have become increasingly popular this year , so opting for a logo such as this can be a great way to elevate your brand. This cool 3D pine cone is a powerful brand mark that would steal the spotlight on custom stationery as well as a dynamic web design (think of a parallax scrolling effect with images of foggy mountains behind it!)

cone travel logo

10. Itinero

Is it a plane? Nope, this great travel company logo uses the elegant shape of flying birds to add a sense of movement and excitement to the logo design. But that’s not all. This example shows just how important the details in graphic design are. The brush stroke O and the difference in width between the letters add more rhythm to the overall design and creates a sense of movement.

itinero travel logo

Parla Italiano? Well, you don’t have to to be able to appreciate this awesome logo created for an Italian travel agency. This design concept uses elements that are very popular on social media, such as the chunky brush stroke font and the flamboyant flamingo (influencers on pool floats, anyone?). A colorful logo can be a great way to boost your marketing materials , but remember that you should always have a black and white version on hand for use in print when color printing isn’t available.

over travel logo

Wordmarks that inspire wanderlust

Creating the perfect wordmark for a travel agency can be tricky. If you pick a business name that’s too local, speakers of other languages might struggle to understand it. On the other hand, going with a more generic name (including words like “tour” and “travel”) can seriously harm brand recognition, if you fail to come up with a creative logo design that people will remember. So if this is the way you want to go, free logo makers or DIY solutions are something you should definitely avoid.

12. Travelgrafía

Speaking of generic names, here’s one anyone can remember (and pronounce) even though it’s originally in Spanish. This logo belongs to a blog that allows travelers to share their experiences in Cuba and the graphic design professionals behind the project really created a brand identity that celebrates this country. The design process revolved around changing the slightly older term “tourism” to “travel” that’s more relatable for younger generations. The way letters are scattered yet come together is representative of the way travelling (and exploring the same country through different travel bloggers’ experiences) brings people together.

travelgrafia travel logo

Speaking of modern travelers, and designs to appeal to younger generations, check out this great logo design. It belongs to an agency specializing in event organization (including trips and outdoor corporate events). With a buzzing name like “Joy”, it made sense to create a custom wordmark for this company. But the logo creator behind this one went the extra mile to reflect the fun, custom nature of these events. The simplicity of the custom lettering helped the designer create great branding assets such as business cards and coffee mugs (and he used the letter shapes as a pattern), as well as other collateral such as flyers and t-shirts.

joy travel logo

Jetlag is one of the less pleasant facts of long-distance traveling but at least once you experience it you’re sure adventures are on the way! This playful slab serif wordmark fits perfectly for a company that helps people find low-cost travel options.

jetlag travel logo

It’s clear now that the world of travel is changing. And precisely this fact inspired the design process for this travel logo: the name is an anagram of the word travel. The modern sans serif font fits perfectly for a modern brand image that reflects change and innovation .

levart travel logo

16. Vou Portugal

Even if you don’t speak Português, you’ll certainly be able to appreciate this Portuguese travel agency’s stunning brand identity. The simple wordmark done in the elegant Biennale font pairs very well with the colorful brand image and versatile icons that can be used for different types of merchandise.

vou portugal travel logo

Minimalist travel agency logos

The final section in this list is dedicated to modern and minimalist logos. This style of logo design is present in almost every industry. However, since most travel agencies are forced to rethink their business strategies, a stripped-down and very modern-looking logo can be just what your rebranding project needs !

This corporate looking logo design would be perfect for a larger travel agency , or organizer of corporate events. The professional font (you might recognize it as Microsoft Word’s default Calibri) paired with a simple graphic element that adds a touch of dynamism creates a simple logo that looks equally effective on a high-quality stock photo PNG used for promotional purposes, as well as custom collateral such as stationery and uniforms.

sinco travel logo

18. Santika travel

Another crips wordmark-graphic element combo is this lovely logo design. Inspired perhaps by beautiful sunsets on some exotic locations, this is another travel logo that utilizes yellow, a logo color said to signal optimism and energy. And this is perhaps exactly what your customers would like a logo to inspire in these trying times!

santika travel logo

19. Delight

Let’s finish this list with a logo concept that really ignites a sense of adventure. If mass air and road travel aren’t available, good old-fashioned road trips and hiking trips are still something we might be able to look forward to in the near future.

delight travel logo

Having lived and studied in London and Berlin, I'm back in native Serbia, working remotely and writing short stories and plays in my free time. Eclipse cartographer Michael Zeiler at GreatAmericanEclipse.com told Space.com that up to 3.7 million people likely traveled for the solar eclipse on Monday.

HotelPlanner's chief communication officer, Philip Ballard, told Business Insider that the eclipse was a major revenue generator for many cities. For places like Austin, Texas, and Rochester, New York, it could have created $1 billion in revenue, Vox reported.

"I would say the total solar eclipse has become a global phenomenon," Ballard said.

Ballard added that the next solar eclipse , which will pass through Iceland, Greenland, and Spain on August 12, 2026, could result in similar tourism and revenue influxes.

And if travelers are considering a trip to Europe for the solar eclipse, Ballard recommends planning your trip now.

Determine your eclipse viewing destination

According to Space.com , 2026 will be Europe's first total solar eclipse in 27 years. Its path will go through Greenland, parts of western Iceland, and northern Spain.

Choosing where to watch the eclipse will be a tough and important decision for travelers.

Iceland and Greenland have some positives. These regions will experience longer totality times, so viewers can watch the eclipse longer. Plus, the sun will be higher in the sky, so finding a spot to watch the eclipse will be less challenging, Space.com reported.

The downside is that these regions are more likely to be cloudy, according to the outlet.

Related stories

While parts of Spain are likely to offer clearer skies, the eclipse's timing will be shorter and closer to the horizon, which means travelers will need to plan and track down a viewing location with unobstructed views of the western horizon, Space.com reported.

Regardless of the destination, according to the outlet, one bonus is that the strongest meteor shower in the Northern Hemisphere will happen the following night, so travelers can pack two events into one trip.

Book flights and hotels far in advance

Ballard encouraged people to book their hotels in their destination of choice as far in advance as possible.

"You should start looking now and booking hotels now because those cities in the path are already going to be at peak season," Ballard said.

Ballard said it's similar to when a Super Bowl city is determined or a Taylor Swift tour date is announced — you immediately see spikes in bookings. He predicts hotel occupancy rates will hit near-record highs, and room prices may double around the solar eclipse date.

Ballard's general rule of thumb is to book international travel at least three months in advance, but since this is such an anticipated event, booking earlier is smart. His advice is to start discussing plans with friends and family. If you decide on a destination, book a refundable room to keep your options open if plans change.

Regarding purchasing a plane ticket, a study from Expedia states that international travel's sweet spot is at least six months in advance.

According to Expedia, travelers who book six months in advance save an average of 10% more than travelers booking within two months or less.

Skip the hassle of planning altogether and book a solar eclipse tour

Another option is to let a tour operator do the work for you. A handful of tour companies have seen the increased interest in the solar eclipse and launched tours designed around the event.

These tours will have predetermined locations to view the eclipse, hotel blocks reserved, and itineraries highlighting both the region and the eclipse.

However, these can sell out quickly. For example, Space and Telescope created an 11-day tour of Spain around viewing the 2026 solar eclipse. The tour has already sold out as of Wednesday, and the waitlist is full.

Other operators, such as Wilderness Travel and Eclipse Traveler, have similar itineraries for the total eclipse in 2026.

10 Best Travel Logos And How to Design Your Own with our Logo Maker

Traveling is supposed to be fun and exciting, capitalizing on people’s natural passion for adventure… so why are so many travel logos boring? If you’re a travel brand, your logo should reflect the thrill and exhilaration of the industry to entice customers and encourage their high spirits. The question is, how do you design a travel logo like that if you’re new to logo design?

In this guide, we explain how to design your own travel logo , starting with an in-depth look at the 10 best travel logos to emulate. We’ll explain what these big travel brands do right with their logos, and then dive into practical advice new and small businesses can use for their own travel logos.

1. Lufthansa logo design

The German airline Lufthansa is a great travel logo to start with; they demonstrate a lot of the traditional guidelines for travel logos well. For starters, they use an emblematic bird for their symbol — birds, airplanes, and other flying objects are common choices for travel logos because they represent the freedom of going anywhere (not to mention a lot of travel involves flying).

It’s not just the bird iconography, but also the style in which it’s designed. Lufthansa makes good use of the repeated parallel lines, which, as explained in our guide to using shapes in logo design, denote stability and reliability.

For travel brands, these parallel lines are often used to show motion in static images, giving the illustrated bird a sense that it’s flying forward. Too many straight lines, like those in lettering of their brand name, can make a logo seem stiff or formal. Lufthansa counteracts this by enclosing the bird in a circle to soften their image and appear more casual.

2. Airbnb logo design

One of the most recognizable logos in any industry, Airbnb combines various graphic design principles to create a simple but meaningful travel logo that checks every box. The use of curves and circles makes them appear casual and fun, a good choice to mitigate fears for a brand that invites people to live in strangers’ homes.

This casual style is furthered by the upside-down heart shape, a universally recognized symbol for peace and trust. However, one of the most inspiring elements of the Airbnb logo is the subtle nod to digital map pointers (the shape in the center). Although not always obvious, this oval with a point is associated with markers on digital maps, hinting that the brand is in the travel industry even if the viewer has never heard of Airbnb before.

3. Tripadvisor logo design

Tripadvisor is one of the world’s most popular travel brands, even if they don’t offer long-distance transportation or accommodations. Because they’re more in the realm of advice and planning than actual traveling, they can experiment with more diverse design techniques that other travel brands cannot.

For example, owls are often used for education logos because of their connotation to intelligence. However, because Tripadvisor has one foot in the travel industry and another in the education industry, the owl is the perfect fit — as a bird, it’s well-suited for travel logos. The excessive use of circles also makes them seem more approachable, welcoming to first-time users.

4. Expedia logo design

Airplanes may seem too on-the-nose for travel logos, but there’s no better symbol to represent air travel —  no one will question what industry Expedia is in after seeing their logo. What makes this logo great is the extended line coming from the plane’s tail: like Lufthansa’s repeated parallel lines, the long line coming from the back of the plane makes the image look like it’s moving forward, adding more life to the logo.

Also like Lufthansa, Expedia encloses their logo in a circle to make the brand seem more inviting. If you’re familiar with color theory for logo design, you can also appreciate Expedia’s choice of colors. Dark blue suggests capability and trust, necessary traits for alleviating travel fears, while yellow is the perfect pairing to accent, as we explained in our guide to color combinations for logo design.

5. Azul Airlines logo design

With logo design tips, learning the rules is crucial, but so is learning when to break them. Azul Airlines of Brazil deviates from the standard best practices for travel logos, but does so in a way that still works.

Notably, Azul Airline’s logo is very angular, full of rectangles, straight lines, and sharp corners. All of these design techniques are reserved for serious and professional brands — they represent authority and stability at the cost of friendliness.

However, Azul softens the authoritarianism in two ways. First, it uses vibrant and pastel colors, which come off as fun and whimsical to balance things out. It also uses creative and unique visuals — the continent of South America reimagined in a cubist daydream. This visual helps people not only remember the brand, but also associate it with its main geographical area of operation.

6. Budget Yatra logo design

Just as Budget Yatra makes travel services accessible to low-budget travellers, their logo takes traditional travel logo techniques and gives them a “inexpensive” spin. This is a delicate line to walk — everyone wants a low-cost airline but no one wants a “cheap” airline — although Budget Yatra does so gracefully.

For one thing, they use a “cheaper” version of an airplane with its paper counterpart. Paper airplanes can get complicated, so they opted for a simple and easy-on-the-eyes visual style with minimal lines and details. Moreover, their accent color orange is closely associated with inexpensive and budget goods; clearly their logo designers did their research.

7. Velvet Escape logo design

As a travel blog and destination review site, Velvet Escape has different criteria for their logo than an airline or direct travel service. They take advantage of their freedom with their green coloring and environmental imagery — appealing to younger and more eco-friendly travelers.

But Velvet Escape still wants people to know what industry they’re in, so they maintain a few of the travel logo staples. Their logo revolves around the image of a bird, a well-used icon for travel logos, and they attach a long line to the back to show movement (just like Expedia). What they do well is blend all these elements together — the flight line of the bird doubles as the vein of the leaf, creating a memorable logo that readers can easily recognize.

8. Garuda Indonesia logo design

We’ve mentioned the travel logo trends of birds and repeated parallel lines already, but Garuda Indonesia’s logo demonstrates both perfectly. The way the entire logo comes together really emphasizes the dynamic movement of the image, furthered by the way the lines get skinnier from right to left.

It’s also worth mentioning their use of curves — the most noticeable elements are rounded and circular, making the brand seem more playful. Even the bird’s beak and “angry” eyes are slightly rounded at the corners to keep the logo from appearing too aggressive. The color choice, with both light and dark shades of blue, helps the brand appear both friendly and professional respectively.

9. Anywhere We Roam logo design

Another travel blog, Anywhere We Roam seems to take a page from Airbnb’s book. They also use the subtle marker from digital maps as their main image, a cue to onlookers that they’re in the travel business. Unlike Airbnb, however, they include the telltale dot in the center, leaving no doubt that it’s in fact a map marker.

Although black and white logos tend to look more serious than colorful ones, Anywhere We Roam keeps things light with its cute renditions of feet and toes. Their unique style for footprints not only represents the travel industry to first-time viewers, it also leaves a lasting impression in the minds of its readers.

10. Cathay Pacific logo design

Last, we have one of the most successful travel logos, and one that displays some of the best logo design techniques for the industry. Cathay uses a bird shape and repeated parallel lines like other travel logos, but they do so in a way that’s wholly unique and original. It’s even questionable whether that image is a bird at all — although that kind of mystique just makes it more memorable.

That’s the goal of all logo design, not just travel logos — enlist the tried-and-true design techniques, but do them in a way that’s never been done before. If you can manage that, you’ll have a travel logo that looks every bit as iconic as Cathay Pacific’s.

3 Expert Tips for Designing Your Travel Logo

What can you take away from the best travel logos above? Here are the top 3 tips to keep in mind when making your travel logo.

1. Flight imagery

Logos aren’t just about fun colors and animals mascots — logos are communication tools so that anyone who sees them knows what business you’re in. Essentially, your logo is a quick advertisement, explaining who you are and what you do.

So for travel logos, you want to include imagery of flight or flying to indicate that you’re in the travel industry (even if you’re not an airline, like the travel blogs above). The two obvious and most common icons are airplanes and birds, but luckily both have a wide enough range that you can still be unique and original.

Always consider what type of brand you want to be before settling on a single image or style. For example, Tripadvisor wants to come across as educational and wise, so they use an owl — still a bird, but a bird specific to their brand identity. Likewise, Budget Travel uses a paper airplane because they’re a discount brand — still an airplane, but in a style that caters to their specific business goals.

2. Circles and curves

Depending on whom you ask, traveling can be scary and nerve-wracking — especially if there’s air travel involved. To help alleviate these fears, a lot of travel logos incorporate visual styles that relax people, such as pastel colors, cute imagery, and, namely, circles/curves.

As we explain in our guide to shapes in logo design, circles and curves create playful and friendly appearances. Because the eye naturally follows any line it sees, circular and wavy lines come across as whimsical and fun-to-watch, as opposed to straight lines and sharp corners, which come across as serious and no-nonsense.

We see a lot of travel logos use circles and curves to mitigate the natural fears that come with traveling and help put customers at ease. At its heart, travel is supposed to be fun and carefree — a recreational activity — so many travel brands lean into this with casual logo design.

3. Use lines to show movement

A technique straight from the pages of a comic book, lots of travel logos use lines in “trick” the eye into thinking a static image is moving. As mentioned above, the human eye follows any line it sees, and that eye movement can be manipulated into making the image seem more “alive” than it really is.

With travel logos, there’s two uses to this technique that are quite common. The first is parallel lines; the use of multiple lines all traveling in the same direction suggests the object is moving, as if they create a blur, like a photograph of a moving object.

The second is the use of a single line, but done in a way that it attracts most of the attention. In both the Expedia logo and the Velvet Escape logo, the “trail” line is much longer than the other lines, making them stand out. The beauty of this technique is that you can do anything you want with the line: a straight long line makes it seem like the image is going faster and farther, but a wavy or loopy line can make it look like that object is dancing or having fun.

Regardless of which technique you use, make sure to put the line behind the object to make it look like it’s moving forward. In short, place the lines to indicate where the object has been, not where it’s going.

How to Design a Travel Logo With a Logo Maker

Now that you have an idea of what goes into an effective travel logo, the question is, how do you make one? Essentially you have two options: hire someone to design it for you or design it yourself. Both have their own merits and drawbacks, so let’s examine both individually.  Hiring a Designer

Professional designers know by heart all the tips, tricks, and techniques we’ve mentioned above, and then some. When you hire a designer, freelance or from an agency, you’re buying their expertise just as much as their time.

The problem is, no skilled designer works for free. The most glaring downside of hiring a designer is the cost — talented designers charge hundreds or even thousands of dollars for logo design.

Sometimes you can find cheaper alternatives on sites like Fiverr, but those sites have a poor record for delivering what they promised, and there’s tons of ex-Fiverr users who felt they were ripped off. The industry standard for a logo design is around $200, so if someone charges $5, you’re right to be suspicious.

Moreover, even if you have the money to spare, it can be difficult to find the right designer for you. Graphic design is a creative field, so there are innumerable artistic styles to choose from. You have to be sure to find a designer who both understands your vision and is capable of bringing it to life, but that can take time.

Design a Logo Yourself With our Logo Maker

If you don’t have spare cash in your budget for a logo, don’t despair. While in the past you may have had limited options, nowadays technology has advanced so that virtually anyone can design their own logo using an online logo design tool like logogenie.

In our digital era, design software is less about the technical skill of your hands and more about your creative ideas. You don’t need to master your brush strokes or pencil shading — you don’t even need steady hands. With digital logo makers, all you need is an idea.

Logogenie, and other online design tools, use templates to make design fast and easy, even for first timers. First, you select your industry from the dropdown menu.

We’ve categorized our templates by the needs and demands of the top industries, so finding yours is the first step. Our algorithm will then generate the top choices for your industry.

Simply choose the one you like and start editing. You can customize each template however you want, personalizing your choices for:

Main images Company name and slogan Font and typography Color schemes Text and picture sizes Text and picture placement Adding new icons Layering (putting some images behind or in front of others)

You can choose from our internal library of over 200 icons. A quick glance shows that there are plenty of the intellectual imagery we mentioned above, including trees with rainbow leaves, shield crests, books, graduation caps, and more.

If you want to use more advanced techniques, we wrote a quick beginner’s guide to using Logogenie. This explains all the nuances of the Logogenie interface, including how to edit individual aspects of the base image, change certain colors but not other, and perfecting your typography.

Using a DIY logo maker like logogenie, you can create a professional-tier logo in just minutes. When you’re done, you can buy all permissions and commercial licensing for $24.90, which grants you your logo forever.

While the template-style of design works well for first-timers, you’ll get better results if you bone up on some graphic design basics beforehand. Keep reading our blog for special design tips, straight from expert designers.
