Tel Aviv Bauhaus Tour

Bauhaus tour.

While a large percentage of Tel Aviv's more prominent Bauhaus buildings are in the Rothschild Blvd. neighborhood, other remnants of this era in Tel Aviv’s architectural history can be found in many areas of the city. One interesting cluster is located in and around the area of Dizengoff Circle, and they lend themselves to an interesting Tel Aviv Bauhaus tour that even at a leisurely pace, should take no more than two hours. For those wanting to explore Bauhaus, there are plenty of hotels in and around the area to give you easy access.

the area of Dizengoff Circle

Start at Dizengoff Circle, walk north to Frishman St, go to 33 Frishman St. Descend a flight of stone stairs and walk through the gate (which will probably be closed, but not locked). You’ll find yourself in what looks like a small public garden surrounded by a building project. While most Bauhaus commissions were for private dwellings (and some for public institutions), this complex of apartments was constructed in Bauhaus style for the ruling Mapai political party - the forerunner of today’s Labor party in Israel - and the apartments were apportioned to the party faithful. Equality was a watchword in Socialist circles then, and in keeping with this tenet, all the apartments were built to look the same. The only different element is the glass doors at various places on the ground level. These served as entrances to public facilities such as kindergartens, laundry rooms or grocery shops.

Return to Frishman, continue to Dizengoff St, turn right, left at Esther St., right on Ruth St and left again, immediately, onto Yael St. and to Yael St., to look at buildings # 6 and 8 across the road. Notice, their straight lines and right angles, and then the asymmetrical layout -a balcony on one side of each floor, and a window on the other. This asymmetry was a manifesto of sorts, as though to announce: “We are doing something new.” Also, pay attention to the balconies. All of those built during this period were open-air spaces; only later did people enclose them.

On the other side of the street, #3, where you are standing, notice the building, which is more elaborate than many others It was designed by renowned Bauhaus architect Oskar Kaufmann, who also designed the original building of the Habima Theater, Israel’s national theater. Notice the rounded theater-like “podium” at the entrance – as well as the two trees casting their shadows on the building, planted with the intention of adding a bit of ornamentation to an otherwise undecorated edifice.

Cross Yael St. at Shlomo Hamelech St. and continue until you reach #18, which is on the opposite side of the street. Here a Bauhaus building once stood; the one that took its place many years later was also constructed along Bauhaus lines, although the differences are quite evident.

The flat roof on #20 Shlomo Hamelech is another typical Tel Aviv Bauhaus feature. The roof was common property of all the tenants, serving as both laundry roof and a venue for parties. Here too, notice the strip balcony on the second floor, an architectural element designed as a way of introducing more light.

At the corner of Shlomo Hamelech and Zamenhof streets, both #12 and #14 sport rounded corners. This is often the case with Bauhaus-style corner buildings, the intention being to redefine an urban landscape in softer architectonic tones. At #12, pay attention as well to the long, narrow balconies, the construction of which the introduction of reinforced concrete frames in the 1930s helped to facilitate.

פוטוליה

 Bialik Residence

The rounded building at #11 Shlomo Hamelech Street, (at the corner of Tel Hai St.) was built to resemble a ship, a symbol of modernism to the architects of the time, since they bridged the gaps between countries. Notice, too, the long, rounded “Mendelsohn” balconies - named after Bauhaus architect Erich Mendelsohn - and the rounded living spaces inside that they echo. At the time, buildings like these were considered to be less functional, and so they were strongly criticized.

Walk down Tel Hai St. to the end, turn right and there, at the corner of Bar Kochva St., look at the roof atop #58. The pergola there - totally non-functional - was yet another attempt to soften cubic Bauhaus forms.

Continue one block down Bar Kochva St., to Zamenhof St. once again and turn left to Dizengoff Circle. Decades ago, this point, which is now being rejuvenated, was the heart of the city and all the buildings surrounding it were constructed in Bauhaus style, including the movie theater that now houses the Cinema Hotel. Note the slits in its sunbreakers - an element that developed with time to allow for increased circulation of air through the balconies.

Continue on Frug St., turn left on Gordon St., the center of Tel Aviv’s art galleries. In less than 10 minutes you’ll be face to face with Tel Aviv's promenade and the Mediterranean Sea.

In 2003, UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, proclaimed the historic zone of Tel Aviv, also know as The White City, as a World Cultural Heritage site. By this proclamation, UNESCO recognized the special architectural qualities of the buildings, streets, squares and avenues of this zone. The White City area was built in an innovative style, tailored to the needs of its residents, to their life styles, and to the climatic conditions of the region. This area is the world's largest grouping of buildings designed in the International Style known as Bauhaus.

Beginning in the 1930's until the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, about 4,000 buildings were constructed in this area in the International Style. The White City is located between Allenby Street in the south, Begin Road and Ibn Gvirol Street in the east, the Yarkon River in the north, and the Mediterranean Sea in the west.

The buildings of The White City were designed by Jewish architects, who had studied in the Bauhaus School in Germany (or were influenced by it). Following the rise to power of the Nazi regime these architects fled Europe; many came to Tel Aviv, where they developed a new architectural anguage, characterized by its asymmetry, functionality and simplicity.

A free tour of the White City is offered every Saturday at 11:00 am by the Association of Tourism of Tel Aviv. No need to sign up – The meeting point is at 11 Rothschild Blvd.

About The White City Center

The White City Center (WCC) was co-founded by the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality and the German government at a historical and cultural crossroad in the heart of Tel Aviv. The WCC's mission is to actively preserve the heritage of the White City site and the international style, known in Israel as the Bauhaus. The White City Center will operate at the Liebling House on 29 Idelson Street, one of a series of historic buildings erected around Bialik Square, in the area that was once the beating heart of Tel Aviv. Built by Tony and Max Liebling in 1936, it was designed by architect Dov Karmi with distinctive characteristics of the international style; entirely different from the decorated home of poet Haim Nachman Bialik, located around the corner. The renovation and conservation project of the Liebling House began in the summer of 2017, scheduled to be completed by 2019.

Tel Aviv Bauhaus Architecture Enjoy the World's Largest Collection!

Did you know that Tel Aviv has the largest collection of Bauhaus architecture and buildings in the world?

Lovely Bauhaus architecture in Tel Aviv on Rothschild Blvd

You can see the white, bright and simple Bauhaus buildings all over the central part of the city.

The Esther Theater designed by Bauhaus architect Yehuda Magidovitch, today a boutique hotel in Tel Aviv

Enjoy them as you walk around Rothschild Blvd, and between the area bordering Allenby Street to the south and Ben Gurion Boulevard to the north.

What is Bauhaus Architecture

The Bauhaus or 'international' style developed around 1920.

It espouses  simplicity  and  functionality.  In the 1920's, this considered a radically new approach to the preferred ornate style prevalent in Europe. The Bauhaus School of Architecture was established by German architect Walter Gropius in Germany in 1919 and was influenced by LeCorbusier. Both are considered among the founders of modern architecture.

So what does Bauhaus architecture imply? Light and airy buildings with a sense of 'floating' based on the overall structure, colors and simplicity. The main characteristics of this style are:

  • Horizontal instead of vertical windows
  • Light or white washed plaster
  • Minimal ornamentation
  • Usually the first floor is raised on pillars.

For more information on how Bauhaus influenced modern architecture, take a look at this short article .

Bauhaus Architecture Comes to Tel Aviv

In the early 1900's, the living conditions in old Jaffa were terrible and overcrowded.

The original pioneers left for the sand dunes outside Jaffa and built new neighborhoods based on cozy, 1-2 storied houses with charming red tiled roofs. You can see some of these buildings today, especially in Neve Tzedek and Kerem Hateymanim.  But these homes could not accommodate the growing population influx that started in the 1920's.

You can learn more about  Modern Tel Aviv History here .

In 1925, the famous Scottish urban planner Sir Patrick Geddes developed a modern, unique city plan for Tel Aviv. He envisioned lots of gardens and open spaces in between modern buildings.

While the Nazis were gaining strength in Europe, Jewish architects escaped to then Palestine. These architects started designing new buildings in Tel Aviv based on their European training in the new International 'Bauhaus' style. Most of these buildings were situated in the area of Tel Aviv designed by Sir Geddes.

Even Tel Aviv's former city hall was built in the Bauhaus style:

Tel Aviv former City Hall built in the Bauhaus style

From the 1930's to the 1950's, over  4,000 new Bauhaus buildings   were built in Tel Aviv.

They were built by architects such as Shmuel Barkai, Dov Carmi, Ze'ev Rechter, Benjamin Chlenov, Joseph Neufeld, Carl Rubin and Arieh Sharon. One of the most prominent architects was Yehuda Magidovitch, Tel Aviv's first city engineer who planned over 500 buildings including the Esther Theater, today's Hotel Cinema that you can see above, as well as Tel Aviv's Great Synagogue.

Tel Aviv - the White City

Over the years, the Bauhaus buildings were neglected and deteriorated. Absurdly, some were even torn down!

About 25 years ago, the city began a major preservation plan for these historic buildings.  A flurry of activity and Bauhaus renovation began which hasn't stopped since.

Today there are about 1,000 Bauhaus buildings that are intact or renovated, the largest collection worldwide .

tel aviv the white city

Their visual effect is striking. Not grandiose and soaring, but creating a feeling of floating based on simple, clean and attractive lines.

The Unesco added the ' White City ' of Tel Aviv to its list of World Heritage Sites in July 2003.

free bauhaus tour tel aviv

Tel Aviv Bauhaus vs. Classic Bauhaus

Tel Aviv Bauhaus architecture differs somewhat from the classic International style, mainly because the architects had to consider Israel's climate.

The preponderance of window and glass in European Bauhaus architecture doesn’t suit the intense light and heat of Tel Aviv summers, especially in the days before air conditioning!

  • Local architects decreased window sizes and replaced windows with balconies, a great adaption for hot Tel Aviv summers.
  • Bauhaus buildings were designed to catch the Mediterranean sea breeze.
  • Awnings and window shutters which are less typical in classic Bauhaus architecture were used to create more shaded areas.
  • And in deference to the local 'Eastern' influence, some Bauhaus buildings were designed small domes or arches surrounding the doors.

So you can see lots of white or light-colored, 3-4 story cubic buildings with little or no ornamentation. Flat roofs, often with gardens. Lots of round corners. Lots of windows and balconies with awnings and shades.

Bauhaus Architecture Guided Tour

If you want a private tour of Bauhaus architecture, read more about our Tel Aviv World Heritage Tour covering the White City architecture and the history and wonders of old Jaffa.

The city of Tel Aviv runs English-speaking, free guided tours of the White City. You get a great overview of the beautiful Bauhaus buildings in the center of the city.

Just show up at 47 Rothschild Boulevard, on the corner of Shadal Street. There is no need to book in advance.

The free tours run every single Saturday (except for Yom Kippur).

As exciting as travel can be, arriving in a new city can be disorienting. Figuring out where you’re going to find breakfast can feel hard enough — and from there you’ll want to learn about the city’s history and modern day way of life.

That’s why a short walking tour can be the perfect way to kick off a vacation. Not only will you learn a bit about the history of the city, but for a short time you’ll have access to a guide who knows the area inside and out — and likely speaks English. Not only is a city tour helpful, but in many cases they’re free. And in Tel Aviv, Israel , you have more than one to choose from.

One of the reasons why Tel Aviv is such an interesting city and why I wanted to visit Tel Aviv again is the incredible Bauhaus architecture.

If like me, you like this architecture style you will surely enjoy Tel Aviv where you can find some impressive buildings all over the city – there are over 4.000 modernist structures in Tel Aviv!

I put together this small guide to Tel Aviv modernism with all the information you might need – a bit of the background of Bauhaus in Tel Aviv, where to find the best examples of this style and finally, more pictures to show you that modernism in Tel Aviv is really special.

Read on and plan your own architecture trip to Tel Aviv soon!

Table of Contents

What are modernism and Bauhaus?

Modernism is the architecture style that focuses on modern technologies from a century ago: glass, steel or concrete. It became popular at the very beginning of the 20th century but its real peak happened between World War 1 and World War 2.

Buildings in this style are usually sleek and elegant, often with undulant shapes and very simple structures. The design focused on the functionality of the building, not fancy details.

The style was popular all over the world but you can find the best examples of modernist architecture in Kaunas (Lithuania) , Gdynia (Poland) , New York City (the US), Paris (France), Germany and Brasil.

One of the modernist movements was Bauhaus – the style created in the art school in German cities Dessau and Weimar. It focused even more on the functionality, also the emotional one. The buildings in this style are meant to serve people, help them develop and grow.

In Tel Aviv, the majority of the modernist buildings were created in the Bauhaus style, to develop the city good to live in, that people will enjoy.

Tel Aviv Bauhaus

History of modernism in Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv was established in 1909, on the dunes outside of the old harbor town Jaffa. The idea behind the foundation of Tel Aviv was to create the modern garden city that will be a pleasant place to live in.

The famous urban planner from Scotland, Patrick Geddes, was invited to design the plan for the city. He presented his idea in 1929 but he didn’t specify the style he wants the city to be built in.

At that time many Jewish architects from the Bauhaus school in Germany and from other Central and Eastern European countries arrived in the British Mandate of Palestine, escaping the rising antisemite moods in Nazi Germany and beyond. They were all well educated and accomplished, creating in the spirit of the best principles of the Bauhaus style.

The emigration architects together with the local one designed the buildings for the new city, focusing on the functionality and affordable materials.

Today we can admire over 4.000 Bauhaus buildings in Tel Aviv – the biggest density of modernist architecture in the world! There is no better place than Tel Aviv to enjoy and admire the masterpieces of the interwar architecture.

Tel Aviv “White City” on UNESCO World Heritage List

The collection of modernist buildings in Tel Aviv is often called “the White City”. In 2003 UNESCO recognized the great importance and value of this architecture style in Tel Aviv and included “the White City” on UNESCO World Heritage List as “an outstanding example of new town planning and architecture in the early 20th century.”

This award will definitely help to protect the amazing architecture Tel Aviv is known for! Now, when you go around, checking the Bauhaus architecture in Tel Aviv, you might find info boards next to some of the buildings, with the details of the place.

Top 15 free things to do in Tel Aviv

free bauhaus tour tel aviv

With its skyscrapers and cosmopolitan lifestyle, Tel Aviv has been dubbed the ‘Manhattan of the Mediterranean’, and like New York , costs can be high. But contrary to its chic image, there’s actually quite a lot you can see and do in TLV that is chof-shee (‘free’ in Hebrew). Spend your days relaxing on beaches, exploring Bauhaus boulevards or checking out some underground street art. Sooner or later, you’ll stumble upon a free gallery, performance or party.

Silhouetted surfers at sunset in the Mediterranean Sea, Tel Aviv.

1. Hilton Beach

Go for an early-morning swim in the Mediterranean Sea. Anywhere along the city’s 15km-long stretch of coast will do the trick, but one of the best spots to swim is the northern section of Hilton Beach . Here, the occasional rough waves are broken by a rocky bay, and swimmers can wade out far into the sea, away from the noise of the city waking up. From April to October, the sea temperature is pleasant and warm. In winter months, the southern stretch of Hilton Beach is great for surfers, and the bay is even floodlit at night.

2. Ben-Gurion House

Built in the early 1930s, Ben-Gurion House was the Tel Aviv home of Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben-Gurion, until his death in 1973. This modest house gives visitors an insight into the mind of one of the founding fathers of modern Israel. Located near the beach, it's open until the early afternoon and entrance is free. The structure is maintained as it was after his death, and downstairs, visitors can view photographs of the late PM meeting 20th-century icons such as US president John F Kennedy and Albert Einstein, while upstairs is home to an extensive library of books in different languages.

Kayakers paddle through the Yarkon River by Park HaYarkon, which runs through the heart of Tel Aviv.

3. Park HaYarkon

You don’t need a single shekel to enjoy the city’s largest expanse of green space, Park HaYarkon . Here, on any given day, you’ll find local Tel Avivians taking their dogs for a walk and playing sport along the banks of the Yarkon River. There’s also a peaceful side: as you go further east, it becomes less like a patch of green in the city and more like a national park, rich with eucalyptus, willow and palm trees. Some use this area to practice tai chi, yoga or simply meditate.

Close-up of colourful spices and herbs at Carmel Market, Tel Aviv.

4. Carmel Market

Undoubtedly the pulsating heartbeat of TLV, Carmel Market  ( Shuk HaCarmel ) is about more than just food. It’s an old-world trade centre, where sellers sing, dance and shout to beckon you over to their stalls. Often thronging with people purchasing groceries, the market is also a great place to snap some photos of the city in full swing. Stretching from Allenby St down towards the seafront, many stalls will let you try nuts, fruit, olives, cheese, cake and even taste some beer for free. By the time you reach the end of the shuk , you’ll feel like you just had a meal! Running parallel to the Carmel Market is the quieter Nahalat Binyamin Crafts Market , open on Tuesdays and Fridays. Here, you can look at handmade ornaments, Judaica (items pertaining to Jewish life and customs) and paintings, as well as catch a few impromptu street performers.

5. Tel Aviv’s promenade

Tel Aviv’s main promenade ( Tayelet in Hebrew) is a long stretch of boardwalks that runs from the city of Bat Yam in the south to Tel Aviv’s Old Port in the north. Not surprisingly, this uninterrupted pavement, coupled with a coastal cycling path, is like a giant outdoor gymnasium. Tel Avivians love nothing more (except drinking coffee) than showing off their bodies and sporting prowess. If you’re feeling active, plug in some earphones, pump up the volume and join the joggers on the seafront for a power run. If that sounds like too much, then you can happily just take a casual stroll all the way down to Jaffa.

Alleyway in old Jaffa, with stone buildings draped in plants.

6. Artist alleyways of Old Jaffa

Trickling off Old Jaffa’s Kedumin Sq, the artists’ quarter is a quaint mess of narrow, cobbled alleyways. Lined with old Ottoman-era stone houses, these alleyways date back to a medieval Crusader fort, and each one is named after a different sign of the zodiac. Today these houses are home to local artists, many of whom have opened galleries and shops. Nearby, you can explore St Peter’s Monastery , a cream-coloured Franciscan church built in the 1890s, and the HaPisgah Gardens , a grassy knoll with a small amphitheatre that holds free concerts every Saturday night in July and August.

7. Graffiti in Florentin

Head to the hip neighbourhood of Florentin, in the south of the city, on the hunt for some street art. Artists such as Klone and Know Hope (Israeli versions of Banksy) challenge and inspire with their artwork, often found on derelict buildings. There are a few paid tours, but it’s also easy enough to find some street art gems by yourself. Start in the centre of Florentin on Vital St and walk down to Arbarbanel St, where the old carpenter warehouses and garages have been spray painted with psychedelic murals. Other hubs include industrial areas such as Elifelet St and the Kiryat Hamelacha neighbourhood, home to Artspace , a nonprofit organisation supporting local artists.

8. Bauhaus walking tour

Meeting every Saturday at 11am outside 46 Rothschild Boulevard, Tel Aviv’s official tourism office runs a free guided walking tour concentrating on the city’s Bauhaus heritage. Dubbed the ‘White City’, the thousands of 1930s Bauhaus-style buildings were declared a Unesco World Heritage site in 2003. Bauhaus, an enormously influential design school, characterised by horizontal lines and minimalist decor, was brought to British-Mandate Palestine by German-Jewish architects fleeing Nazi persecution. Superb examples of Bauhaus architecture can be found on Bialik St, including  Bialik Museum and Beit Ha’ir (the old city hall), which cost to enter but can be admired from outside. Another free walking tour focuses on the Sarona Colony (the old German Templar neighbourhood) and starts at 11am every Friday from 11 Alluf Mandler St.

View from Jaffa, Tel Aviv, of a vivid orange sky as the sun sets over a headland covered in trees with a church at the far end.

9. Sunset at Jaffa Port

Lying between the Arab neighbourhood of Ajami and the sea, Midron Yaffo Park is a welcome patch of green hillside just south of Jaffa Port . Once a rubbish dump, it was transformed into a park by the municipality in 2010. Because of its elevation, it makes a great spot to sip a cold beer while the sun descends below the horizon, often creating purples and pinks as it disappears. At any time of the day or night, you’re likely to find local fishers trying their luck with the Mediterranean, just as in ancient times. It’s worth noting that Jaffa Port is also home to one of the city’s largest free car parks.

10. Comedy and open-mic nights

With a large native English-speaking community in town, Tel Aviv is home to a plethora of free open-mic nights where budding stand-up comedians try out their material. Popular venues for open-mics include the Mike’s Place on Monday nights,  Malan 18  on Tuesday nights and  Dancing Camel Brewery  (varies). For something a little more serious, theatre group  the Stage  runs occasional free poetry and story slams at various venues around the city.

11. Matkot on the beach

The iconic game of matkot – a simple paddle ball game of beach tennis – has become synonymous with Tel Aviv. On any given day, even in winter, you’ll find locals on the sand belting a tiny plastic ball with their wooden rackets. But really matkot is just another way for Tel Aviv’s beautiful boys and girls to bronze their bodies and play sport at the same time. Simply head to the beach and join a game. There appear to be no rules, except hitting the ball as hard as you can. On Gordon Beach , there’s also a free outdoor gym, beach volleyball courts and folk dancing on Saturday morning. All along the beach, Tel Aviv offers free wi-fi for those who prefer to surf online.

Patrons eat in an alley in Jaffa Flea Market, the wall lined with colourful murals and decorations.

12. Free gigs in Jaffa’s Flea Market

Aside from being the centre for antique shops and stalls, Jaffa’s Flea Market ( Shuk HaPishpashim ) is also home to a lively nightlife scene. Bars like Shaffa  set tables and chairs on the paved street as live bands play. On Tuesday nights and weekends, the market becomes an impromptu stage for an eclectic range of live bands. Expect anything from Arabesque and klezmer (music of the Ashkenazi Jews) to alternative rock music played by talented local musicians. Afterwards, grab a tasty boureka  (stuffed bread with sheep’s cheese) on Yefet St from Abu Lafia & Sons bakery (not free, but pretty cheap!)

13. A Purim street party

Each year Tel Avivians dress up in the most outlandish outfits they can get their hands on for the festival of Purim , usually held in late February or March. This somewhat minor Jewish festival commemorates the biblical story of Esther set in ancient Persia, but in modern-day Tel Aviv, it’s been transformed into a huge week-long fancy dress party – the city’s answer to the Rio Carnival – where people dress up as anything from superheroes to fish, cowboys to nuns. Purim culminates in a free street party, in recent years held at Kikar HaMedina, where DJs blast tunes until sundown on a Friday evening. Also popular with families, there are Purim parades for children, with the biggest held in the suburb town of Holon.

Dancers on a truck entertain the crowd in the Pride parade in the streets of Tel Aviv.

14. Tel Aviv Pride

Loud, proud and without a cloud in the sky, Tel Aviv Pride is the largest Pride festival in the region. Revellers come from all over the world to strut their stuff on the streets of Tel Aviv at this celebration of the LGBT+ community. Held in June each year, the heart of the festival is the street parade, which ends with a pulsating free beach party. But more than this, there are free events in the week leading up to the parade, including music nights in Jaffa and DJs on Hilton Beach, while everywhere in the city is decorated with rainbow flags.

15. Opera in the Park

Held on a warm summer evening every year,  Opera in the Park is a gigantic free concert in Park HaYarkon. Something like an oversized picnic attended by nearly 100,000 people, residents gather on the hillside to enjoy some fine wine and food as the Israeli Opera gives a free performance of a classic opera. Even if opera’s not your thing, this concert is one of the city’s major annual events and a chance to experience Tel Aviv in a different, more laid-back mood.

A tour in the UNESCO proclaimed world heritage “white city” Tel Aviv – will take us through the landmarks that made it the first architecturally planned modern Hebrew city. From Tel Aviv’s first neighbourhood through Rothschild Blvd, the railroad park, and Neve Tzedek – the first Jewish neighbourhood outside Yafo (Jaffa), we will see the mayor’s house – the declaration of Israel’s independence site, the Great synagogue, International (Bauhaus) architecture and dreamhouse style architecture, as well as romantic alleys of Neve Tzedek.

  • Rothschild Boulevard – one of the streets of the first neighbourhood of Tel Aviv, the Champs-Élysées of contemporary Tel Aviv, the “White City” houses, the first kiosk.
  • Mayor Dizengoff’s house – site of declaration of independence of the state of Israel
  • The Great Synagogue of Tel Aviv
  • The Railroad Park
  • Neve Tzedek – a romantic 19 th century neighbourhood in the south of Tel Aviv

Excellent tour of the Old City!

I highly recommend visiting Jerusalem with Tzachi Samiya. He was clearly an expert not just in the history but also in today’s goings ons, showing and teaching us about the big hits but also several hidden gems. Seth has great knowledge and thoughtfully prepared visuals to aid our understanding of the history. He also gave us understanding of the modern day life in the old city. He is both passionate and knowledgeable about history. I found him very amicable and patient with all the questions.

Aviel is the best

Aviel gave us the most sincere and detailed introduction to Christian sites in Jerusalem we could have hoped for. It all just clicked. Plus he was just the nicest chap to chat with. Thanks!

Amazing tour of old Jerusalem

We had a pleasure to have a walking tour of the Old Jerusalem with Tzachi Samiya. It wlas an amazing tour. We had a big grouo with us and everyone had enjoyed it. Tzachi had no proboem keeping everyone’s attention. His stories were captivating. He covered all aspects of the city: history, religion, and division . We went through Armenian, Christian, Jewishand Arab sections of the Old City. The tour actually ended up being a lot longer than 2.5hrs. We had a big group of people of different ages and we all learned a lot and enjoyed it

This tour is also available as a Private Tour.
