20 best things to do in Yeppoon, Capricorn Coast

By Author Toni Broome

Posted on Published: November 26, 2021  - Last updated: April 17, 2023

If you’ve not been to the Capricorn Coast recently you might be surprised at the diversity of things to do in Yeppoon and the surrounding region.

Yeppoon is located on Queensland’s central coast, northeast of Rockhampton and just below the Tropic of Capricorn. It’s a 5-hour drive north of Hervey Bay , 8-hours from Brisbane and an essential stop on a road trip up the Queensland Coast towards Cairns .

Yeppoon lagoon pool

Stay for a week or two and you’ll have time to discover the white-sand beaches, beautiful coral, tropical fish, native birds and wildlife, rainforests, geological formations dating back to prehistoric times, fun family attractions, National Parks, art, history and a fabulous food bowl region.

Table of Contents

1. The Yeppoon Lagoon Pool

2. the kraken water playground, 3. hang out on the yeppoon beaches, 4. visit great keppell island, 5. koorana crocodile farm, 6. explore kemp beach, 7. chill out over coffee or brunch, 8. watch the sunrise, 9. enjoy a bbq with a view, 10. lammermoor beach and native gardens, 11. self drive the capricorn coast food trail, 12. visit a working permaculture farm, 13. sundowner drinks on the beach, 14. sunday live music at waterline, 15. street art, 16. emu park, 17. yeppoon community markets, 18. chill out at your beachfront accommodation, 19. capricorn caves, 20. mount archer skywalk.

A key attraction on the Yeppoon waterfront is the fabulous infinity lagoon pool complex. This stunning spot is completely free to use, you can relax here for the day or stop by for a quick dip to cool off whenever you feel like it.

Yeppoon Lagoon

Most people just chill out, chat and have a refreshing soak while enjoying the view. You’re able to swim and play too but there’s no jumping or diving into the pool and there are lifeguards on duty to make sure everyone is playing safe. There is also a zero-depth area for toddlers with seating for parents on the edge.

There are large sun shelters positioned over the grass area so you can put down a blanket overlooking the pool and sun loungers to relax while you dry off. Directly behind the lagoon are more parklands, a skate park and a big picnic and BBQ area. In front of the pool is Main Beach providing the ‘infinity’ view out to the Keppel Islands.

The complex includes a ground floor juice bar and cafe with a restaurant and bar upstairs. There are immaculately clean changing areas, showers and toilets available, the only thing we really felt were missing are a few lockers, just somewhere to secure water-sensitive items like phones and keys would be great.

If you are travelling with younger children they will love the Kraken water playground with the safe zero-depth water spouts. There are toilet and changing facilities nearby and plenty of seating and picnic spaces for the family to keep a close watch.

The Kraken water park in Yeppoon

The Kraken of course is a giant sea monster depicted in Nordic folklore as something like a giant octopus. The Kraken playground is super cute and a popular hangout for families. The shaded seating around this area was one of our favourites for our morning coffee with stunning views out over the beach. Being elevated there’s a little bit of breeze there too on a hot day.

While Yeppoon has one long expanse of sand stretching further than the eye can see to the north, technically it’s only Yeppoon Main Beach near the town and turns to Farnborough Beach at these rocks near the campground. Farnborough beach then continues on to the north for around 17 km up to Sandy Point just below the Byfield National Park.

Farnborough Beach in Yeppoon

Walking this stretch of sand into ‘town’ each day was just beautiful and especially pretty like this with the warm glow on the horizon at dawn and dusk.

The main question we are asked, and kind of wondered ourselves when we arrived, is whether there are crocodiles around Yeppoon? The locals were swimming here and the surf life-saving club is active including nippers in the water each week so we were inclined to think the crocodile line was actually further north than we’d believed.

In reality yes they do get salties in the ocean along the Capricorn Coast, it’s rare but a couple of months before our visit a 3.5-4 metre croc was confirmed floating off this southern part of Farnborough beach . I love walking along the sand and spending time on the beach but we headed down to the lagoon pool whenever we wanted to take a dip.

The Keppel Islands are a group of 18 islands located around 15 km off the Capricorn Coast. Great Keppel, as the name would imply, is the largest and very easy to visit from the Keppel Bay Marina just south of Yeppoon.

Two companies run daily ferries out here, we went with Keppel Konnections on a day trip and got the ferret ticket that includes lunch at the bistro, you can also stay out here in the cabins that are dotted around. It is a rustic unspoilt paradise but keep in mind that means the accommodation and facilities are basic.

Great Keppel Island

With 17 beaches and a range of walking tracks, you aren’t going to be bored out here. The waters are crystal clear and beautiful for swimming, being in the southern Great Barrier Reef snorkelling is also popular with tropical fish, coral and turtles to see.

You can hire snorkelling gear from the beach shack and hike to some of the better snorkelling spots like Monkey Beach or join one of the snorkelling trips that head out to Middle Island or the more sheltered beaches depending on the weather and tide. There are also kayaks to hire from the beach as another way to get around the rocky heads to different beaches.

You can see the hiking trails on this map, there are some signs and markers along the way but they are limited so make sure you are confident navigating before heading deeper inland or out onto the longer trails.

Even if you confine yourself to a snorkelling tour and the two beaches around the visitor precinct, Putney Beach and Fishermans Beach, or perhaps take the walk up to the lookout you are going to have more than enough to keep you busy for a day trip.

The waters are crystal clear and perfect for swimming. The long sweeps of sand and few people mean there’s plenty of space to spread out and the Bistro and bar are conveniently positioned to wander in off the sand for something to eat whenever you feel like it.

Visiting the tropic of Capricorn means you are now in crocodile country and the more you know about these fascinating apex predators the better it is for them and you. Koorana Crocodile Farm is first and foremost a farm, not a wildlife park but its multi-faceted approach to the business means that they also provide crocodile handling training to wildlife staff, safety training to those who work in and around crocodile habitats, and tours for locals and visitors.

Croocodile at Koorana Farm

We joined their morning tour which involves meeting several of their breeding stock from a safe distance. These big boys and their girlfriends are impressive animals, seeing them fed during the tour you appreciate how invisible they become even in shallow water close to the bank and how fast they move getting clear of the water.

The tour focuses on the animals, not the nitty-gritty of farming them, there are around 3,000 crocodiles on the farm and we meet maybe a dozen of them on the tour, almost all are fully grown. The only exception is a young crocodile brought out at the end that we had the opportunity to hold and take a photo with.

An interesting insight for me was seeing what a crocodile nest looks like, it’s not something you see in a wildlife park. You could easily mistake it for a brush turkey nest if it wasn’t for the nearby wallow to collect fresh water and a slide into the waterway.

At the right time of year, you might also witness the egg collection process on the tour, every egg must be removed and incubated, a skilled and nailbiting job to be sure but while the fencing is substantial to keep the big crocs in, the hatchlings would have no issue walking through them and into local waterways. Not the way to stay on good terms with the neighbours.

After the tour we stayed on for lunch in the restaurant, you can read more about our experience dining here and our reviews on other local restaurants around Yeppoon in this article.

Directly southeast of the Keppel Bay Marina is the gorgeous Kemp Beach. The 2 kilometres of sand are bracketed by the Capricorn Coast National Park. At the northern end is the Double Heads section with walkways to Pebble Beach, the Rosslyn Bay lookout and Fan Rock lookout. At the southern end is the Bluff Point scenic walk with more lookouts from the summit over Bluff Rock and the Keppel Islands in the distance.

Kemp Beach on the Capricorn Coast

It’s a great spot for a beach day with the sheltered bay having a shallow drop off and minimal waves. Soft white sand, a backdrop of the dunes and a walk into the national park make this one hard to beat.

There are two great restaurants nearby, Beaches is across the road with their menu based around fresh organic produce from the High Valley Dawn permaculture farm and Waterline is also within easy walking distance with great food, views out over the marina and live music on a Sunday afternoon.

If you are self-catering on your travels the Rosslyn Bay Fish Market is also located on the water’s edge here with an excellent range of local fish and seafood. They are open 7-days and in addition to running their own boats, they partner with local fishermen to ensure a consistent fresh supply.

Yeppoon and the surrounding Capricorn Coast have some fantastic places to eat, we’ve shared our favourites cafes and restaurants in the region in an earlier article but it really does deserve a mention here. Not only is local produce and culinary creativity high but many of these spots really are beautifully positioned to take in the best views and casual relaxed vibe.

Whisk cafe brunch in Yeppoon

Do click through to the full article to get all the details but brunch spots like Whisk pictured above offer an extensive and delicious menu, baristas at spots like Lure Living are as good as you’ll find in any capital city but with a spectacular beachfront location and others like Waterline Restaurant overlooking Keppel Marina are great spots for everything from a romantic dinner to a chill Sunday afternoon of live music.

We always find a walk on the beach is a great way to start the day, with the motorhome parked overlooking this gorgeous stretch of sand we took the opportunity to spend as much time on it as possible. Nothing quite beats the serenity of watching the sunrise on a new day over an unending expanse of ocean.

Sunrise on the beach in Yeppoon

If you really can’t get up for the sunrise, it is early in Queensland especially in summer, you can get some very pretty pastel skies from the reflected sunset in the afternoon.

There are some great picnic and BBQ facilities across the Capricorn Coast, many of them with incredible views. This one was a favourite coffee spot at The Kraken overlooking Yeppoon Main Beach with a choice of sunny or shaded tables, BBQs, toilet facilities and a zero-depth water playground for the kids.

Baked on 44 French bakery treats on Yeppoon Beach

We also love the Yeppoon Lagoons and there’s a huge bank of BBQs and picnic tables in the park next door or bring a blanket and find a spot under a shady tree. Again there are toilets and changing facilities, a children’s playground and a skate park so it’s fun for the whole family.

Another worth a mention is the BBQ and picnic facilities at the Rotary Park on Farnborough Beach, there’s also a shaded and gated children’s play area and direct access to the beach at this one. Being slightly out of the main town area you can park directly next to it which is handy if you have someone who is less mobile or just a lot of BBQ gear. The picnic pavilions are a good size if your group is a bit larger too.

I’ll link a full list of the council provided BBQ facilities and we noted without exception during our stay that they were kept clean and the areas well maintained.

Lammermoor Beach is less than 4km from Yeppoon but again it offers something a bit different making it worth a stop. The beach itself is a 2.5 kilometre stretch of white sand with a backdrop of dunes covered in casuarina trees and views out to the Keppel Islands. It sits between Wreck Point and the Keppel Bay Marina.

The parking, BBQ and picnic area for this one are elevated above the beach giving great views and yet it’s a very easy walk back up from the sand. You can get to Lammermoor Beach by public bus and it’s only a few minutes from Yeppoon.

Native garden walkway at Lammermore Beach

Across the road from the car park is the entrance to the Lammermore native gardens, this is a 14-hectare area of native coastal forest that is maintained by a group of local volunteers. If you follow it through to the end on that side of the road you come to traffic lights, cross there and head down towards the beach and you can rejoin the gardens on that side of the road or return along the beach.

The gardens feature over 120 plant species across foreshore dunes, mangroves, littoral rainforest, melaleuca swamp, and eucalyptus woodlands with native grasses. Wildflowers bloom at various times of year bringing in butterflies and a variety of insects and 95 bird species have been recorded.

There’s no cafe or restaurant on the beachfront but plenty of options to set up your own picnic and the adorable vintage coffee caravan ‘Gather 4703’ is usually parked here. In addition to good coffee, you’ll find delicious juices and treats like cookies, doughnuts and freshly baked croissants from Keppel Bakery.

Discovering fresh, locally grown food as we travel is always a tasty treat and there are plenty of options for this as you explore the Capricorn Coast region. Many, like Brooks pineapples pictured below, are a simple cart and honesty box left by the side of the road or outside the farm gates. The fruit was sweet and delicious and you can find other produce like this using the farm gate trail on the Taste Capricorn website.

Picking a pineapple from the Brooks cart on the Capricorn Coast

Not all growers and producers are affiliated and on the list, so keep your eyes open as you drive around, we found more delicious pineapples as we headed through Tanby on the way to Keppel Sands and huge beautiful pawpaws on our way up to the Capricorn Caves. Local stores like the IGA in Yeppoon, Keppel Ko-op and Drakes in Emu Park support local growers and small batch producers too.

Permaculture is a concept that many travelling foodies are interested in and we were no exception so we made sure to inlcude the High Valley Dawn permaculture farm on our itinerary. It’s owned by Ross and Judy who also run the Rosslyn Bay Resort and adjacent Beaches Restaurant in Kemp Beach.

High Valley Dawn Permaculture Farm

The permaculture concept was established by two Australians, Bill Mollison and David Holmgren in the mid-70s but by the number and diversity of people who turned up on Sunday morning for the tour, it’s clear it’s now well and truly in the mainstream.

Permaculture is about more than principles of soil health, garden structure and plant selection although you will get a good introduction to that on the tour. There are 4 fundamentals that underpin the movement as practised here at High Valley Dawn – earth care, people care, fair share and community.

The tour runs for a couple of hours as you see behind the scenes on the farm, learn about the crops, understand what the 7 levels of a food forest look like in practice, meet some of the animals and get the low down on compost.

Tours run on a Sunday morning at 9, there is no fee but a donation is appreciated. Bookings are essential and can be made online .

After a day out exploring in the fresh air, we enjoy watching the sun go down with a drink before dinner. There are some great bars and restaurants to do this in Yeppoon but overlooking the beach from your holiday apartment, or in this case the motorhome might be even better.

Afternoon drinks at camp in Yeppoon

While the sun sets in the west and the beach, of course, faces east the reflected sunset is very pretty here in the early evening as it turns the sky to hues of pastel pink and purple.

One of our favourite restaurants in the Yeppoon area is Waterline, it’s right on the marina and perfect for alfresco dining out in the garden or in the shelter of the patio. During our dinner here we had so much trouble narrowing down the selction of starters and share plates that we knew it had to go onto the list for a return visit.

Entrees at Waterline Restaurant at Keppel Marina

A chill Sunday afternoon with live music, a few plates of house made dumplings and an ice cold beverage sounded to me like the perfect way to fit in a return visit. It’s also very conveniently located adjacent to the Keppel Konnections ferry that goes out to Great Keppel daily, it could be a great breakfast or easy dinner option to combine with a day on the island.

We noticed a dozens of street art pieces around Yeppoon and the Capricorn Coast. We’d regularly stumble upon it adorning surf clubs, toilet blocks, car parking buildings, cafes and alleyways around town. If you are a fan of the art form you’re going to want to keep your eyes peeled for some of the better hidden pieces.

Street Art in Emu Park

I loved this fun one of Busby Marou and unfortunately just missed seeing them perform down in Bundaberg later in our trip. If they are playing somewhere you’re headed this summer make sure to check them out too.

A 15 to 20 minute drive down the coast from Yeppoon is Emu Park and it’s an area we really love. They have a fabulous ANZAC memorial that follows a coastal walkway from ANZAC Court through an open sided interpretive centre overlooking the ocean and on towards the Singing Ship memorial.

The ANZAX walk and Singing Ship in Emu Park

There’s a boat ramp and jetty on Fishermans beach and there’s parking here too that’s ideal if you are stopping with a motorhome or larger vehicle. The surf life saving club and most popular swimming beach is around the point on Emu Park Main Beach. There’s a fabulous little coffee shop called the Honey Bee Collective under the surf club right on the beach, grab a coffee and pull up a mat and cushions under the palm trees, it became our go-to spot down this end of the coast.

The waterfront is made up of parklands all the way along with plenty of BBQ and picnic facilities, children’s playgrounds and lookouts. There’s also a campground in Emu Park right on Fishermans beach. The little town has a range of cafes, an excellent supermarket, bakeries and other shops that supply everything you are likely to need if you’re staying here. or for an impromptu picnic if you’re not.

On a Saturday morning the community markets are held at the Yeppoon Showground. These are great especially if you are self-catering during your stay in the area. The markets exclusively host growers and producers so you’re sure to find the best of what is grown locally and in season.

Yeppon markets at the showgounds

Be prepared for an early morning start, it’s open by 6.30 am and is all over by 10.30, perhaps a little earlier if stalls are sold out. There is street parking right outside the gate and a diverse range of fruit, vegetables, honey, flowers, baked goods. jams and chutneys.

There were a couple of holiday apartment options that I narrowed it down to in Yeppoon that are perfectly positioned close to the beach, lagoon pool and town, plus they have great reviews. Echelon Apartments are across the road from the Yeppoon Kraken waterpark, they are self contained with a pool and recreation area on the roof. The other one is Salt Yeppoon situated opposite Main Beach. Again the apartments there are modern and self contained with 2 rooftop pools.

On this trip we were in a fully self contained motorhome so we were looking for a great place to park that for a couple of weeks. The Beachside Caravan Park on Farnborough Beach in Yeppoon turned out to be perfect for us. We got this great site backing onto the beach so each night we went to sleep looking up through the skylight at the stars and listening to the sound of the waves.

Looking out the Motorhome window at beach in Yeppoon

It’s about a kilometre down the beach to town and all the cafes, shops and services that offers. The campground itself has plenty of clean toilets and showers, a coin operated laundry, multiple camp kitchens and BBQ facilities. They also have a booking office for local tours, some with transfers and there is a bus stop right outside that goes into town..

Dating back 390-million years the Capricorn Caves in Rockhampton are part of the diversity that the Capricorn Coast region is known for. Just a 40 minute drive from Yeppoon and you arrive at the distinctive dry rainforest and karst landscape.

Inside the Capricorn Caves

The main tour here is a walking tour up through the dry cave system including the magnificent acoustics of the cathedral cave but for those with adventure in mind, you can don a helmet and headlamp and squeeze through the narrow gaps to the less accessible caverns.

If you choose to stay overnight in the campground or cabins during school holidays make sure to head out for a walk at dusk to get great viewing of the flocks of little bent wing bats and wallabies grazing around the grounds.

The Mount Archer skywalk also called the Nurim Circuit is in Rockhampton, a 40-minute drive from Yeppoon. It offers some fantastic views over the range in one direction and over the city with the river snaking through from the other side.

The drive up is easy and there is plenty of parking at the top along with short walks, picnic and BBQ areas.

The skywalk on Mount Archer

The walkway extends 25 metres off the side of Mount Archer and is great at any time of day although sunrise and sunset from here are especially popular.

Great read!! Where did you park the motor home? We will be heading off soon and have a caravan.

Hi Matt. We used Beachside Caravan Park and got a site backing directly onto Farnborough Beach, from there it was really easy to walk into Yeppoon centre, lagoon pools etc. With a larger motorhome we could park it on day trips with no issue at Emu Park, Wreck Point Lookout, Causeway Lake, lots of spots along the coastal stretch of the Scenic Highway and the marina but that won't be an issue with a caravan. With a 4-wheel drive you'll easily be able to go up into Byfield National Park too which we had to skip this trip due to our height.

You can’t miss Yeppoon Lagoon when passing through the Yeppoon foreshore precinct; undoubtedly one of the most fun things to do in Yeppoon! Stretching over 2500 square metres, the resort-style pool is the perfect spot for swimmers of all abilities, including a shallow children’s play area with water fountains and an informal lap pool.

When visiting Yeppoon Lagoon, you’ll also be treated to amazing views from the infinity edge pool, from where you can gaze over the sparkling coastline all the way to the Keppel Islands.

There’s plenty of space to relax around the pool, too, so you could easily spend a full afternoon here. In addition, the surrounding parklands have picnic areas and barbecues if you want to stay for lunch, with many seats under the shade of tropical foliage.

Look out for the pelican lifeguards patrolling the swimming pool! These fun sculptures were named one of Australia’s best public art experiences and were installed directly inside the pool.

The Lagoon is definitely a must-do during your visit to Yeppoon, especially if you’re visiting with kids in tow!

Location: 3 Lagoon Place, Yeppoon

Hours: Daily from 6 am to 9 am

Cost : Free

While on your way to Yeppoon Main Beach, don’t forget to stop at the ‘Spirit Stone’ sculpture.

Maurice Lempire designed the circular sculpture in 2001. It was built to commemorate the Federation of the Australian Colonies Centenary in 1901. This historical event made history when the six separate self-governing colonies of New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia formed one nation.

The sculpture has a unique ring-shaped design, with the middle of the circle overlooking the beach and beyond, so it’s an excellent spot to take some distinctive photos of your trip to Yeppoon.

Location : Anchor Drive, Rosslyn Bay, Yeppoon

Hours : Always open

If you’ve ever strolled along the beaches collecting shells, you’ll love Shell World and its impressive display of over 20,000 shells!

Shell World is just a quick stop next to the tourist information centre, so you can stop by while picking up any maps or brochures you need for your stay in Yeppoon,

When looking through the vast collection, you’ll be surprised by how varied shells can be – and how beautiful they are. Even for adults, appreciating all the shells on display can be quite a nostalgic experience.

Every land, marine, and fossil mollusc is clearly labelled, alongside various corals and craft items. The shells have been sourced from all over the world, so it can be quite an educational visit.

The centre is operated by a team of passionate volunteers who are on hand if you have any questions and will let the kids pick up and touch some of the more interesting items. If you’re after unique souvenirs, the centre has some cute and budget-friendly gift ideas.

If you’re looking for family things to do in Yeppoon, we highly recommend stopping by Shell World.

Exploring Yeppoon’s colourful street art scene is a wonderful way to get to know the ins and out of this gorgeous coastal town.

You’ll spot murals all around the town, even bringing urban areas like the Queen Street car park and Barry Street to life. There is some beautiful artwork by community artists on Hill Street and, if you don’t mind the 20-minute drive, Emu Park has some fantastic murals too.

Don’t miss the street art in Pie Alley – just off Normanby Street; the artwork has a really interesting history. After Cyclone Marcia caused a lot of damage to the town, the community needed something to lift their spirits. And so, the Australian artists Bill and Luke Gannon painted the town’s first ever street art here to symbolise the hope and history of Yeppoon locals.

Walking around Yeppoon’s colourful alleyways and spotting the amazing murals is a really fun way to spend an afternoon in Yeppoon.

Visiting Yeppoon beach is one of the best things to do in Yeppoon for free during a visit to this vibrant town.

Most of the action is at Yeppoon Main Beach, a long sandy bay with plenty of space for sunbathing, taking a stroll, or building sandcastles. The walkway is pram and wheelchair-friendly, allowing everyone to enjoy the sublime coastal views. If you plan to spend a day here, parking and picnic tables are conveniently located next to the beach.

If you’d prefer to escape the town centre and find some of Yeppoon’s more underrated beaches, you’ll be pleased to know that there are many amazing bays along this beautiful coastline!

Whether you want to relax or enjoy some outdoor activities, you’ll find plenty of options to suit your preference. If you want to unwind at a secluded bay, head to Zilzie Beach for a 600m stretch of sand with a picturesque palm tree. Emu Park Main Beach is perfect for surfing or head to Kinka Beach for excellent swimming facilities.

For amazing views and outdoor activities, such as kayaking, canoeing, and hiking, the wild Mulambin Beach might be more up your alley. Kemp Beach offers similar activities and is one of the area’s more secluded and beautiful bays.

Finally, Farnborough Beach is a fabulous family-friendly option, with lots of space for kids and dogs to run free.  There’s also a park with BBQ facilities and a playground near the entrance by Yeppoon Main Street.

There’s no better way to appreciate the beauty of the Capricorn Coast than with a sunset cruise from Yeppoon.

You’ll depart from Keppel Bay Marina before taking in the surrounding coastline and islands, which look particularly mesmerising during sunset. The experienced and welcoming crew will point out any interesting views and ensure you have a memorable time.

Many 90-minute cruises greet guests with a glass of champagne upon boarding before a Cheese and Deli board is served, so it’s definitely one of the most romantic things to do in Yeppoon at night.

But anyone can enjoy a breathtaking boat trip here, and families will have a great time on the water. So no matter who you’re travelling with, a relaxing catamaran journey is a perfect way to end a day in Yeppoon!

A range of operators offers sunset cruises.

Don’t forget your camera when you visit the magnificent Wreck Point Scenic Lookout. Located in the stunning Cooee Bay, just a short drive from the town centre, you’ll be treated to 360-degree views of the dazzling Capricorn Coast and the Keppel Islands.

To make the most of the scenery, wander around the nature trail and descend down 68 steps to see its shipwreck-inspired wooden art installation. The symbolic artwork and information boards tell the story of Selina, the 62-ton sailing ship that washed ashore near Cooee Bay in 1848.

After the short walk to the lookout, you’ll have fabulous views of Yeppoon, Lammermoor Beach, Rosslyn Bay, and Great Keppel Island. The lookout is great at any time of day, but the best time to come is sunset or dusk when the walkway is lit up with multicoloured lighting.

Location : Matthew Flinders Drive, Cooee Bay

On the first Sunday of each month, it’s well worth stopping by the Fig Tree Creek Markets to see what local goodies are on offer. If you’re wondering what is there to do in Yeppoon on weekends, this option is a community favourite.

Walking around the stalls, you’ll see a huge variety of locally handmade, home-baked and home-grown talent. In addition, some truly creative products are on display and available to purchase.

Adding to the vibrant weekend vibes, visitors can enjoy live entertainment as they wander through the fig trees and stalls beside Ross Creek.

Location : Merv Anderson Park – 1 Scenic Highway, Yeppoon

Hours: Saturdays from 6 am to 10 am

For art lovers, it’s worth stopping by Fig Tree Galleries to see what local gems are on display. Nestled behind the fig trees, the quiet space shows a mix of paintings, pottery, jewellery, and woodwork.

The gallery runs various events and exhibitions throughout the year to showcase local creativity and inspire others, including workshops for anyone who wants to give try something creative in a welcoming setting.

The moderate Double Head Track is short but steep – but the effort of this 40-minute return trail is justified after you’re rewarded with glorious views!

Beginning at Shoreline Road, the trail winds around to Pebble Beach. From here, climb to the lookout at Double Head Viewpoint for spectacular views of Bluff Rock.

This first lookout is also known as ‘Fan Rock Lookout.’ The rock is actually the remnant of an ancient volcano and is characterised by its fascinating hexagonal rock formations that date back over sixty million years!

After taking a break at Fan Rock, continue to the second lookout at Rosslyn Bay. This time you’ll have more panoramic views over Rosslyn Bay Harbour, Keppel Islands and the Byfield Ranges.

Besides the wonderful views, the track is well-maintained as it weaves through the native bush and fig trees. It’s definitely one of the top 10 things to do in Yeppoon if you want to take on the region’s stunning natural beauty.

Location : Capricorn Coast National Park Double Heads Section, Rosslyn

Enjoying the electric atmosphere at The Alley has to be one of the best free things to do in Yeppoon! This is a great place to enjoy a lively evening with live blues music every night.

The Yeppoon locals running the venue are passionate about great food and music, so you’ll be well-fed as you enjoy the live entertainment. An extensive menu of food and drink is on offer, including local wines and beers.

This beautiful 2.3km loop walk offers two amazing viewpoints over the Capricorn coastline and beyond.

The trail begins at Kemp Beach with a steep 600m ascent to the Turtle Lookout, where you can admire the neighbouring islands. Don’t forget to look down and watch the turtles bobbing around the rocks below – after all, the viewpoint is called Turtle Lookout for a reason!

After admiring the turtles, continue past the panoramic views at Ritamada Outlook before winding through the eucalypt forest and grasslands. There’s lots of native flora to admire, and Blue Tiger butterflies and vibrant wildflowers are often seen decorating the pathways with a splash of colour.

Location: Bluff Point Walking Trak, Rosslyn

There are some brilliant places to go fishing around Yeppoon. Aside from fishing at the centrally located Ross Creek, the area is better known for off-shore reef and estuary fishing.

Depending on the day, you might catch anything from a giant cod in the estuary to a red emperor at the offshore reefs, with a minimum size of 55cm. In addition, locals often catch tuna, sweetlips, hussar, white trevally, amberjack and mackerel around the area.

Emu Parks is one of Australia’s most unique and well-designed ANZAC memorial walks. Its stunning boardwalk follows the region’s stunning coastline, passing beautiful installations that pay tribute to the ANZACs.

As you stroll along the 175m trail, you’ll see silhouettes of real service members and floor-to-ceiling storyboards, including portraits of locals who fought in the first world war.

Fusing the beauty of Yeppoon’s standout coastline with a touching tribute to local service members, the short walkway is an emotional but reflective experience and definitely one of the most memorable Yeppoon attractions.

If you’re wondering what makes this one of the best things to see in Yeppoon, the singing ship really does sing!

At the end of the Emu Park Anzac Court and Memorial Walk, you’ll reach the Singing Ship sculpture. The monument recognises the area’s legacy and connections to Captain James Cook, who discovered this bay in 1770.

The memorial incorporates Cook’s famous ship Endeavour within its design, representing the sail, mast and rigging. The installation also cleverly uses organ pipes within the structure, which make musical notes when the sea winds blow through them. So the windier the weather, the louder the ship will sing!

Kids will love playing around the singing ship and it’s a gorgeous seaside spot to take some lovely family photos to remember your visit to Yeppoon.

Location: Tennent Memorial Drive, Emu Park

If you’re looking for things to do in Yeppoon with kids, take the family to meet the 3000 crocs at Koorana Crocodile Farm!

You’ll see some stunning flora and fauna around the park and a decent amount of native birdlife. Just beware of the cheeky kookaburras who like to charm visitors who enter the park – they might try and steal your lunch!

With a vast collection of pottery, paintings, sculptures, and other crafts on display, there’s plenty to see at Nob Creek Pottery. Across three large buildings, visitors can admire work by 45 Australian and international artists.

The pottery, in particular, is unique, with various colours and designs on display, including specialised bathroom sinks and tiles. You can watch a short film or peer inside the enormous kiln to learn more about the firing process or ask one of the friendly staff how everything works.

While there, don’t miss the gorgeous gardens and picnic area, which make for a great spot to relax with tea or coffee.

Location: 216 Arnolds Road, Byfield

Hours : Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm | Daily during school holidays

This 8.9km return trail is one of the best cycling trails in the area. The route is flat and easy, so it’s a pleasant trail to take the whole family or visit for a relaxing walk to escape the urban centre.

You’ll weave through native bushland and the suburbs as you follow a disused railway line after the transportation of pineapples was moved to road transport instead.

If you’re wondering what to see and do in Yeppoon and want to leave the area feeling inspired, you should consider visiting the Jet James Art Gallery.

Although Jet James is now an award-winning Australian artist, his life didn’t start that way. He was orphaned at age seven following an early childhood riddled with poverty, drug abuse, and domestic crime. His teenage years remained difficult, and drawing became one of his main escapes.

At age 19, he was mentored by the experimental printmaker Peter Indans while studying at Central Queensland TAFE. From there, he developed his love and exceptional talent for printmaking alongside painting and mixed media artworks. He has since won various accolades and his work has been displayed across New Zealand, Australia, and even in the USA and Europe.

Inside the gallery, you’ll see a great selection of Jet James’ creations alongside the artwork of other innovative local artists.

Aiming to make art accessible for everyone who needs it, the gallery is completely free. Many paintings have been turned into everything from ceramic mugs, totes, and socks, making for wonderful gifts or souvenirs for art lovers.

Yeppoon, the magical seaside town you have to see now

Travel Journalist

29 January 2024

Time

As the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, Yeppoon is a burgeoning destination in its own right, offering exceptional dining experiences, market and boutique shopping and a vibrant arts scene.

Sitting on the traditional lands of the Darumbal people, Yeppoon has evolved from an agricultural region in the 1860s to a classic coastal village that charms visitors with its laid-back atmosphere and seaside vibe.

It’s a destination rich in produce and renowned for its pineapples, beef and seafood, which feature on local menus at smart restaurants and chic cafes.

With a population of around 7000, Yeppoon is the largest town in a string of villages along the Capricorn Coast and provides an excellent base for exploring the islands of the Southern Great Barrier Reef and nearby inland rainforests.

Yeppoon is a seaside gem just begging to be discovered.

How to get to Yeppoon

As the vibrant heart of the Capricorn Coast, Yeppoon sits on the Tropic of Capricorn, around 672 kilometres north of Brisbane and about 40 kilometres north-east of Central Queensland’s largest city, Rockhampton . Rockhampton airport is serviced by daily flights from Brisbane with Qantas and Virgin Australia (flight time around one hour) and direct flights with Bonza Airlines from both Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast are due to commence late 2022. A bus service operates between the airport and the towns of the Capricorn Coast. Queensland Rail also runs services between Brisbane and Rockhampton.

When to visit

Yeppoon is a great year-round destination. Winter is the most popular tourist season, when the sub-tropical climate means warm dry days of around 23°C (June to September). In summer (December to March), expect some rain, and daytime temperatures between 22°C  and 32°C.

Things to do in Yeppoon

Stroll down Yeppoon’s main street or the esplanade to browse beach-chic boutiques and surf stores and keep an eye out for one of the many street art murals adorning local walls.

Duck into the Jet James Art Gallery to see original works, prints, clothing and giftware by this established Australian artist and designer, and Yeppoon local. Or if markets are your thing, Fig Tree Markets , run by the Keppel Coast Arts Organisation, are held on the first Sunday morning of the month, offering handmade, locally-designed arts and crafts and local produce.

On the foreshore, take a dip in the infinity-edge lagoon, a favourite for families with its water fountains, children’s play area, dining areas and sunset views to the islands, and wander along to nearby Keppel Kraken zero-depth water park .

To explore the Reef, take the 30-minute ferry ride from Rosslyn Bay to Great Keppel Island, an ideal day trip. Best places to eat in Yeppoon

For such a small town, Yeppoon punches above its weight when it comes to dining. Local chefs turn out some sophisticated offerings and diverse flavours designed to make the most of high-quality beef, seafood and tropical fruit widely available in the Capricorn region. There is a wide range of smart restaurants, cafés and clubs catering to all tastes and budgets, and a great craft brewery.

Among Yeppoon’s top restaurants are multi-award-winning Waterline Restaurant at Keppel Bay Marina , and Beaches Restaurant , where the menu offers fresh local seafood and produce direct from its nearby permaculture farm.

For something more casual, head to The Alley , a coastal café that oozes an inner city Melbourne vibe and one of the hottest hangouts in town. The menu features plenty of homegrown produce and celebrates the region’s local flavours. Does it get more Queensland than that?

Another way to explore Yeppoon’s culinary treasures is by following the Taste Capricorn Coast food trail which will lead to the many farm gates, markets and producers in the region.

15 Best Things to Do in Yeppoon (Australia)

If you’re familiar with the town of Yeppoon on Queensland’s Capricorn Coast and haven’t visited for a while, you may be bowled over by what greets you today.

After taking a battering in Cyclone Marcia in 2015, Yeppoon’s foreshore has been entirely revamped with parks, picnic areas, a fantastic water playground for kids and a state-of-the-art pool with an infinity edge.

Tracking the waterfront on Anzac Parade are modern apartment blocks footed by a long row of shops, cafes and restaurants.

Yeppoon is a gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef and the paradisiacal Keppel Islands, while strewn across the local landscape are volcanic landforms going back some 70 million years.

1. Great Keppel Island

Great Keppel Island

One of the great island getaways of the Southern Great Barrier Reef lies tantalisingly close to Yeppoon.

This is the largest of the 18 islands in the Keppel group and fits with most people’s idea of a tropical paradise.

With rugged, forest cloaked terrain that rises suddenly from the coast, Great Keppel Island covers a little more than 1,300 hectares.

Yet somehow there’s room for 17 of the most alluring white sandy beaches you could hope to set eyes on.

These are bathed by transparent waters made for swimming, snorkelling, kayaking and scuba diving.

You can traverse the island via a tangle of walking tracks, ushering you through tropical forest inhabited by brilliant rainbow lorikeets, kookaburras, possums and blue-tongue lizards.

The ferry from Yeppoon takes no more than 30 minutes and drops you right on the perfect white sands of Fisherman Beach.

2. Yeppoon Foreshore

Yeppoon Foreshore

To coincide with Yeppoon’s 150th anniversary, the foreshore has recently come through a complete revitalisation following almost $30m of investment.

This was partly a response to the damage left by Cyclone Marcia in 2015, and now the town is linked to the water by parkland with verdant and accessible landscaping, constant views of Keppel Bay, playgrounds, a skate park, boardwalks, promenades and eateries.

The mainstay is the Yeppoon Lagoon, which we’ll talk about below, and there’s a new amphitheatre over the beach for outdoor performances.

You could get up first thing to see the sun riding behind the islands and spend a whole day, never needing to stray far from this green haven.

3. Yeppoon Lagoon

Yeppoon Lagoon

Not many towns can claim to have a public outdoor pool with a swim-up infinity edge.

And even better than that, this pool has unbroken views across the Keppel Islands.

Opened in 2018, the Yeppoon Lagoon is the standout attraction of the foreshore precinct, catering to all comers.

There’s a safe shallow area for children, a space for people who want to swim laps, while you can retreat to the shade of Pandanus palms for picnics.

The curving design of the pool was inspired by the pattern of sand drifts on shallow beaches, looking like something you’d find in a high-end resort.

4. Keppel Kraken

Keppel Kraken

Something else that looks like it should be at an exclusive resort is the water playground tracing the shore along Anzac Parade.

The zero-depth Keppel Kraken has a load of interactive elements like jets, water cannons, fountains and the only umbrella bucket to be found in Queensland.

All these features are colourfully painted in indigenous styles and centre on a tentacle belonging to mythical sea creature emerging from the ground.

Surrounding the Keppel Kraken are timber decks and custom-designed picnic benches beneath swaying palms.

5. Cooberrie Wildlife Sanctuary

Cooberrie Wildlife Sanctuary

For a fun and educational family outing this nearby animal attraction offers all sorts of hands-on wildlife experiences.

Relying entirely on donations, Cooberrie Wildlife Sanctuary looks after sick, injured and orphaned species, and has many residents that can’t be safely returned to the wild.

Here you’ll be able to hand-feed kangaroos and emus, cuddle a koala, have a macaw perch on your hand and interact with mischievous monkeys.

For braver visitors there are snakes, baby crocodiles and lizards to hold.

A lot of these experiences take place during the daily animal show at 13:00, and for an extra fee there are special VIP encounter packages and a junior zoo keeper program.

The sanctuary also has an on-site swimming pool, paddling and barbecue facilities, included in the entry fee.

6. Capricorn Coast National Park

Fan Rock Lookout, Capricorn Coast National Park

This protected space is found at five distinct sections, all within a half-hour drive of Yeppoon.

There’s a startling contrast of habitats at Capricorn Coast National Park, comprising steep volcanic outcrops, beaches, mangroves, eucalypt forest, tussock grassland and dry rainforest.

There’s a majestic trachyte plug at the Bluff Point day use area, which we’ll cover in more detail in the next entry.

Closer to Yeppoon are the twin outcrops of Double Head, which can be explored on a sealed walking track.

The Fan Rock Lookout here gives an up close look at a basalt cliff with radiating geometric patterns, all framed by the Keppel Islands.

7. Bluff Point Walking Track

Bluff Point

A treasured part of the Capricorn Coast National Park is the Bluff Point section, where the rugged headland grants awesome panoramas of the Keppel Islands, the coastline and Yeppoon’s hinterland.

Bluff Point happens to be the largest trachyte plug on the Capricorn Coast, and is covered with a wide variety of vegetation from eucalypt forest to heathland.

The Bluff Point Walking Track, zigzags around the summit and deposits you at wonderful lookouts with picnic tables and barbecues.

The most memorable of these has to be the lofty Turtle Lookout where you can survey the Keppel Group but also catch sight of sea turtles at the foot of the cliffs.

8. Wreck Point Scenic Lookout

Wreck Point Scenic Lookout

Five minutes away at Cooee Bay there’s a great vantage point atop a headland.

This is Wreck Point, commanding a perfect panorama of Keppel Bay and the Capricorn Coast.

The name, Wreck Point, comes from a maritime mystery.

At this very place in 1848 the transport schooner, Selina, was found waterlogged and without a crew or mast.

Fifteen months before, the vessel had set sail from the Pine River, bound for Sydney, but was not seen again until it washed up at this spot.

The fate of the crew is unknown, but the conclusion of one expert in the 1950s was that Selina had capsized in a storm, and then righted itself before being pulled by currents east towards New Zealand and then back to the Capricorn Coast over the course of several months.

There’s a scenic trail at Wreck Point, as well an interpretive panel telling Selina’s story and the haunting sculpture of a shipwreck.

9. Yeppoon Main Beach

Yeppoon Main Beach

With so much to see and do on the foreshore it’s easy to overlook the beach itself, especially at high tide when the sea covers the sand entirely.

At other times, especially at dawn, it’s a scenic spot for a walk and to gaze out at the islands in Keppel Bay.

The sand is firm and perfect for walking on, and dogs can come along provided they’re on a leash.

Bearing in mind that daily winter highs still peak well above 20°, you may have the beach to yourself if you come between May and August.

The Yeppoon Surf Lifesaving Club is towards the north end and patrols the beach on weekends and during public holidays.

10. Freedom Fast Cat Cruises

Freedom Fast Cat Cruises

The port of departure for the Keppel Islands is Keppel Bay Marina in the shadow of Double Head at Rosslyn Bay.

There you can set off on a cruise, sailing trip, fishing charter or simply catch a ferry to Great Keppel Island.

The main ferry operator is Freedom Fast Cat Cruises, which has a service departing in the morning and then returning from Great Keppel Island in the afternoon, as well as an earlier “early bird” transfer.

And if you’d like to make your Keppel Island experience as convenient as possible the company arranges a timetable of cruises.

A wide choice is available, including an eye-opening glass-bottom boat tour, a snorkel tour and an “adventure tour”, which involves boom netting.

11. Shell World

Sea Shells

This endearing museum in Merv Anderson Park presents more than 20,000 shells belonging to molluscs from the sea, land, as well as fossils.

Shell World is surprisingly informative, meticulously labelling all of its specimens.

The collection has been gathered from all over the world, but also gives a hint of the amazing natural diversity that lies offshore at the Great Barrier Reef.

There are also coral samples, as well as more playful examples of arts and crafts using shells.

If you’re building your own shell collection there are shells for sale here, alongside pieces of shell craft.

12. Capricorn Caves

Capricorn Caves

Head inland and within half an hour you’ll be at a limestone cave system that was opened to the public as long ago as 1884. This makes Capricorn Caves one of Queensland’s oldest visitor attractions.

The main tour, departing on the hour from 09:00 to 16:00, takes you on a kilometre long walk through the caves to view their surprising dimensions, bizarre concretions, the roots of fig trees and perhaps the insectivorous bats that inhabit the system.

The highlight has to the nave-like Cathedral Cave, which has been installed with pews and has superlative acoustics.

For intrepid sprits, the Capricorn Explorer and more advanced Capricorn Adventurer tours take you to chambers off the main tour for a caving odyssey in the dark.

13. Emu Park

ANZAC Memorial, Emu Park

The cute seaside village of Emu Park, is a brief drive south of Yeppoon and developed at the turn of the century as an upmarket resort.

At that time Emu Park was linked to both Yeppoon and Rockhampton by railway.

Now you can come to wander the foreshore, made up of a series of parks dotted with picnic areas and playgrounds for children (Kerr Park has the best one). The main beach to the south has a slender curve of white sand, lined with palms and lapped by knee-high waves.

The waterfront has been revamped lately with the Centenary of ANZAC Memorial, made up of a sandstone cenotaph and plinths, a boardwalk, viewing platform and silhouettes of Australian soldiers.

You’ll also never be more than a few strides from the town’s cafes, bars and fish & chip shops.

14. Singing Ship

Singing Ship

Set above the Centenary of ANZAC Memorial Boardwalk is Emu Park’s signature monument, paying tribute to Captain James Cook.

In 1770 on his first voyage of discovery, aboard HMS Endeavour, Cook became the first European to chart Keppel Bay.

The work of public art couldn’t have a better location perched on a scenic rise above the cobalt blue sea, with the outline of Great Keppel Island on the eastern horizon.

The monument evokes HMS Endeavour with a sail, mast and rigging, and its name comes from the integrated tubes producing notes in the breeze.

Try to visit on a windy day when the Singing Ship is in full voice.

15. Baga National Park

Baga National Park

Ten minutes into Yeppoon’s hinterland the plain is interrupted by a steep trachyte plug, another vestige of an extinct volcano.

Mount Baga’s peak is 221 metres above sea level has a treacherous surface of loose shale under a layer of dry rainforest on the lower slopes and hoop pines further up.

This landform has long held significance for the Aboriginal Darumbal people, as part of their dreamtime stories.

Now, although hiking to the top isn’t recommended, many people do just that.

If you’re planning an ascent you’ll need to be an experienced hiker, in good shape with a good pair of shoes.

Your efforts will be rewarded with an exceptional view over the coastal plain, littered with similar trachyte formations.

Yeppoon, Queensland A cute little town on the Cassowary Coast.

Map of the Great Barrier Reef

Yeppoon is a coastal escape that will not disappoint. Yeppoon located east of Rockhampton and just north of Emu Park , is blessed with a mild and sunny climate and the beautiful backdrop of Queensland’s shimmering Capricorn Coast.

Yeppoon Logoon, Queensland

There are plenty of things to see and do throughout the town, from the new Yeppoon Lagoon public pool (pictured above and below) on the waterfront, to the memorable daytrips into the Great Barrier Reef, to soaking up the sun on its pristine beaches.

Yeppoon Public Pool

Yeppoon is a great destination for relaxing family getaways, as there are plenty of accommodation options to choose from.

The town overlooks Keppel Bay, which provides a serene spot for sailing and boat cruises. Travel further out from the mainland for 10 to 15 minutes, and tourists can reach more than two-dozen magnificent island hot-spots, including the largest and most-visited island, Great Keppel Island .

Don’t let the beauty and reputation of Great Keppel stop you from seeing the other islands though. A plethora of excellent dive spots and snorkeling opportunities await tourists just minutes’ off the coast of Yeppoon.

In addition to island hopping, the town also boasts some reputable deep-sea-fishing tours. Most of the tours leave from Keppel Bay Marina (pictured below) , which is the main port serving the town.

Yeppoon Marina

Tourists don’t have to get on a boat to enjoy a holiday here though. There is a long, golden beach that hugs the town’s seafront.

At high tide, the water usually reaches the breakwater wall, leaving little beach to frolic upon. However, a wide sandy beach with low-set waves greets visitors during other times of the day.

Skydiving has grown in popularity over the years. What better way to take in the sights of the entire Capricorn Coast than by jumping out of an airplane!

Cooberrie Park

Perhaps tourists would prefer to keep their feet on the ground and explore Cooberrie Park instead. This compact yet fascinating wildlife sanctuary provides an opportunity to hand-feed unique Australian fauna, such as kangaroos, koalas and various bird species. It is only 15 minutes by car from the heart of Yeppoon, and is ideal for an unforgettable family-outing.

21 Awesome things you absolutely must do in Yeppoon

There’s something special about Yeppoon . A little town with a very big soul, it offers an incredible mix of worlds. Spend days immersing yourself in the ocean, sailing at sunset, swimming, and snorkelling, lazing on the beach and spotting turtles. Then head into bushland where you can meet native animals, kayak creeks and explore the jungle. Feast on top-notch seafood, sip on fine wines, nibble mouth-watering cakes and enjoy the cafe culture. Yeppoon is a unique blend of experiences, perfectly set off by the wonderful locals who call it home. To help you make the most of your holiday, or just inspire you to visit, here are some of the very best things to do in Yeppoon (and surrounds!).

Before we get started, here’s a great joke direct-messaged to me on Instagram by one of my best friend’s mum: “Hey, Phoebe, where’s Yeppoon? Next to ya knife and fork!” Brilliant! Oh, and one more thing, the order of this guide is entirely random and not, in any way, a ranking.

1. Sunset catamaran sailing

Climb aboard Grace, a stunning catamaran owned by locals, Anthony and Vicki of Sail Capricornia . Set sail toward the sunset, wind in your hair, wine in your hand. Spot dolphins feeding and soak in the golden glow of the warm afternoon sun as it sets for the day. Then, if you’re lucky, turn around and watch the moon rise behind you. It’s a fantastic way to see the area from a different angle and have a truly memorable experience in Yeppoon.

2. Visit the Centenary of ANZAC Walk

I’ve visited many ANZAC walk memorials around Australia, but this one has to be my favourite. The Centenary of ANZAC Walk at Emu Park wraps around the coast, offering fantastic views of the area and an interesting path to wander. Most importantly, the memorial pays tribute to the ANZACs in a lovely way, offering visitors the chance to learn more about an important piece of history and remember those who have given their lives for us. Lest We Forget.

3. Dinner and live music at Ferns Hideaway Resort

Locals told me to expect a great night at Ferns Hideaway Resort , but nothing prepared me for just how great it is. Owners, Marto and Gen, are absolutely lovely and their genuine passion and love for their business (and lives) radiates through every part of the property. The restaurant is open for lunch Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but it’s Saturday night’s live music that really takes the cake! Be sure to book a table and make the drive – the music is absolutely fantastic, the service is exceptional and the food is really good too. Definitely one of my favourite experiences in Yeppoon and an absolute must-do! Trust me, you’ll love it.

4. Breakfast at Flour

Visit gorgeous, local favourite, Flour , for fantastic service, yummy food, and fantastic coffee. The menu includes unique (and freakin’ delicious) options, like crunchy smashed potatoes or pumpkin fritters topped with perfectly poached eggs and creamy hollandaise. Do yourself a favour and get stuck into the incredible cake cabinet. You won’t regret it!

5. Spot turtles from the lookout

Take a trip to the southern end of Kemp Beach , turning off the main road onto a short gravel track. Here you’ll find a relatively easy, albeit steep, walking track, known as the Bluff Point Track. Work your way up 700 metres or so to Turtle Lookout where you can easily spot gorgeous green turtles popping up to the surface to grab a breath of air. Continue to the top for panoramic views of the perfect blue ocean and never-ending sky.

6. Low-tide at Kemp beach

Stop by stunning Kemp Beach at low tide and take a stroll along the perfect, pristine stretch of sand. It’s a great spot for photography as, at low tide, the water forms perfect glassy reflections, bouncing the scenery and sky off its pristine surface.

7. Visit Great Keppel Island

Climb aboard the Keppel Konnections Ferry or Freedom Fast Cats from the Keppel Bay Marina over to Great Keppel Island . Spend the day swimming in the clear water, lazing in the sun or getting stuck into fun activities like snorkelling, jet skis, stand-up paddleboarding, tubing, wakeboarding and more. The only problem? You may never want to leave. Check out Keppel Water Sports for activity ideas.

8 Dine at Vue

Pop into Vue Wine Bar & Restaurant for a fantastic dinner and really, really good wines! Set right along the main street, Vue offers gorgeous beachfront views of the ocean and is the perfect spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We visited in the evening and got stuck into delicious tapas, the star of which was the out-of-this-world fried feta. You’ll love the stunning feature wall artwork, excellent service, delectable wine menu and tempting desserts.

9. Watch the sunset and sunrise

Wake up early, visit your favourite patch of beach, headland or lookout point and watch the sunrise. In the afternoon, take the time to get outside and watch the sky turn brilliant shades of pink, orange and yellow before transitioning to blue, green and dusty pink. The sunsets and sunrises in Yeppoon are magical, so make sure you plan your day around them.

10. Lunch at Keppel Bay Sailing Club

For a midday tipple look no further than the Keppel Bay Sailing Club . Offering sweeping views of the beach, it’s the perfect spot to get cosy with a cold drink (BEER!) and a delicious lunch. The seafood here is fantastic, just be warned the portion sizes are very generous so you’re probably going to need your stretchy pants (no complaints from me!).

11. Coffee at Lure Living

Stop in at Lure Living and get your hands on some of the best coffee in town, as well as freshly made countertop treats, vegan bites and snacks to-go. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to meet a few friendly dogs, keen for a belly rub or ear scratch.

12. Visit Nob Creek Pottery

Established in 1979, Nob Creek Pottery is home to Steve Bishopric and Sue McBurnie, two incredibly talented and passionate potters. Visit the galleries and explore the huge range of pottery, jewellery, artwork and more. It’s a great spot to learn about pottery and gain an appreciation for it as an art form. I didn’t know what to expect before visiting but absolutely loved it, seeing how identical pieces can come out of the kiln totally different, impacted by the heat of the kiln, positioning inside, how often it’s stoked, by whom and what they’re drinking at the time (as Steve explains).

13. Coffee from Chapter

Love coffee? Be sure to visit Chapter for your morning cup of get-up-and-go. A low-key hidden spot, it’s adorned with warm lights and a chilled-out atmosphere. The constant stream of visitors lets you know the coffee is great. Sit a while and sip your brew or take it to-go and start your day with a stroll on the beach.

14. Shop at Coastal Funk

Visit the beautiful local boutique, Coastal Funk , and meet owners Chris and Debbie, creators of insanely good soy candles (seriously, I smelled each scent and loved ALL of them) and all-round lovely people. The store is adorned with absolutely gorgeous homewares of varying shapes, sizes, textures and colours making it the perfect spot to pick up something special for your home. For the full experience be sure to have Chris, a mountain of a man and absolute legend, talk you through his life as a ‘candle bitch,’ hand-making bath salts and soy candles – it’s great!

15. Explore the Capricorn Caves

Step back in time, hundreds of millions of years ago and discover an ancient world. From the outside, the Capricorn Caves seem pretty low-key, but step inside and you’ll learn an incredible amount about the history of the earth. Explore huge caves and winding passageways, learn about the coral reefs and jungle that once stood where you are and marvel at fossils. (This experience was a big surprise packet for me. I didn’t expect to love it as much as I did! I learned so much!)

16. Meet native cuties at Cooberrie Park Wildlife Sanctuary

Location 15 minutes from the heart of Yeppoon, Cooberrie Park works tirelessly to provide sanctuary and rehabilitation for animals in need. All the animals you see and interact with have been rescued from bad situations and will live the rest of their very happy days at the park. Those animals you don’t see are being nursed back to health in preparation for their release back to the wild. 17. Go kayaking at Waterpark Creek

We spent a night at the fantastic Byfield Cabins and got up (reasonably) early for a spot of kayaking on Waterpark Creek . Guests of the cabins are able to kayak free of charge, with all gear easily available and in pristine condition. The water here is perfectly still and glassy, throwing all kinds of stunning reflections off the surface. There are a number of great accommodations in the area, so choose one that suits you and make the most of the great kayaking.

18. Live music and lunch at The Waterline Restaurant

While The Waterline Restaurant serves great food daily, Sundays are when things really kick off. Book a table for lunch, where you’ll be treated to live music and a friendly, fun, laid-back atmosphere. The seafood here is fantastic and if you’re keen to try a steak while in the heart of cattle country, this is the spot to do it. The Waterline’s owners also own Banana Station, a cattle farm, so the eye fillet you see on the menu comes directly from their farm and is, by Matt’s account, extremely tender.

19. Peruse the local weekend markets

Visit the Yeppoon Community Market , held each Saturday from 6 am to 10 am, where you can unearth fresh produce and other yummy goodies (there’s plenty to see, do and eat!) You can also visit the Fig Tree Creek Markets , held on the first Sunday of each month from 8 am to 12 pm, showcasing all things homemade, home-grown and home-baked.

20. Spot street art

It may sound strange, but take a visit to Yeppoon’s multi-storey carpark for a DIY street-art tour. You’ll find bright, beautiful artwork adorning the walls and hidden up, down and around different parts of the complex. Be sure to spot the large piece of a little dog being pushed in a child’s stroller, a tribute to a lovely local and her beloved pooch. Also, if you love art, be sure to visit The Mill Gallery, located in the heart of town.

Yeppoon A Livingstone Area

Yeppoon a livingstone area: a comprehensive guide              , introduction.

The charming small town of Yeppoon in Central Queensland, Australia, lies along the coast and shielded from the sun rays. Yeppoon is the paradise the beach holes are searching for as they enjoy the unspoiled beaches, an array of outdoor activities, and the laid-back coastal ambience. Around it, turquoise oceans, verdant hinterland greens, and gleaming beaches are the environment.

Table of Contents

Also Known as the “ doorway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, “Yeppoon is known for its vibrant atmosphere, fabulous beaches, and pleasant people.

Let’s head to Yeppoon, only 40 kilometres east of Rocky, a subtropical destination hotter for outdoor adventurers and sunbathers in any season. Yeppoon spoils all kinds of people as a destination, whether you are looking for a quiet day by the shore or wild activity.

We would be delighted if you visited the top spots of Yeppoon, our own unique experiences, and the Livingstone surroundings successfully through the Sectional Guide.

Yeppoon’s Beaches

Outside View of Yeppoon’s Beaches

You find the beach and the variety of beaches in Yeppoon, each with its charms and features. Main Beach is the town’s main beach. It has a long stretch of golden sandy beach and calm waves, suitable for family gatherings. Here, the guests may sunbathe, splash into the water being kept clean, or have a lazy picnic with the ocean surrounded by them.

Farnborough is for people who want more stimulation, beautiful scenery, and fantastic waves for surfing. This pristine beach is ideal for surfers and those who cherish water sports because of the vast waves they can charge and the unbridled water power they soak in.

Kemp Beach is famous for its clean and calm marine environments, which serve as a picturesque breakaway from the noise of the urban areas. Kemp Beach is a good place for an easy bird walk, shelling walk, or sunbathing. The exercise itself is also a tranquil way to relieve stress.

At Mulambin Beach and Lammermoor Beach, people who need silence and calm can find peace and tranquillity. Those fantastic beaches, with their pure, white sands, azure waves, and fascinating valley, still pop from the crowd in this world of tourists.

Yeppoon’s Islands

Situated on the Central Queensland coast, the ideal place to see some of the nation’s most beautiful islands is Yeppoon, which becomes our departure point. The Keppel Island Group, notably Great Keppel and North Keppel, are just a few of these precious treasure chests.

Known for its clean beaches, virgin waters, and abundance of species, it becomes an exciting place to stop by for the day or spend a more extended period.

Great Keppel Island

The grandest among the Keppel group resorts, Great Keppel, is undoubtedly the top destination, offering travellers the peace and tranquillity they seek. This gorgeous island, surrounded by spectacular coral reefs and has fantastic beaches and bays where you can try diving, snorkelling, kayaking, and bushwalking, is perfect for relaxing, exploring, adventuring, and having fun.

Find the mysterious bays, swim in the emerald waters, or just relax on the beaches and soak up some sun whenever you want. Great Keppel Island hosts various village lodging options catering to travellers’ needs, from natural eco-lodges to waterfront resorts.

North Keppel Island

North Keppel Island Beach View

Peaceful North Keppel Island is close to the much busier Great Keppel Island, only by boat. This little virgin island harbours beaches that are untouched and splendid views that will astound you. This is also where you can try out the hiking trails nearby.

The island’s superb ecosystems, which shelter native species like kangaroos, birds, dolphins, and turtles dressed in natural colours, are open for people to explore. Divers or snorkelers would likely encounter lively coral gardens flush with exotic fish, while beachcombers could walk the miles of uninhabited coastline searching for washed-up tropical treasures and shells.

Hinterland Adventures

The hinterland at Yeppoon is wildlife with all the secrets of nature from behind the sun-kissed beaches and blue oceans you may have seen from afar. Plunge into the jungle’s deep green, desertic nature, aesthetic farmland, and the beautiful Hinterland Adventure Yeppoon can provide you.

Byfield National Park is charmed with the wild beauty and old-growth scrublands that can be found just a short drive from the Yeppoon. Go for a walk along the high sand dues, swim in a freshwater stream, or watch the variety of plants and animals in their natural environment.

The adventurous guests go through the adrenaline rush of 4WD trips and quad biking, where they experience the park’s beautiful natural marvels.

The worldwide renowned Singing Ship representing Captain James Cook’s historic voyage to the Queensland coast is in the Emu Park area. This secluded spot that touches the vast ocean views enables visitors to experience the Coral Sea and delve into all the pertinent maritime heritage.

Having a short vacation in the peaceful communities in the Yeppoon hinterland may give you a chance to peek into country life in rural Queensland and its alluring looks. Discover the slow rhythm of life in a village by visiting local markets, buying luscious and fresh vegetables from roadside stalls, and getting to know kind people here.

Regional Food And Dining

Banquetting the delicious stuff in Yeppoon is indubitably my favourite issue. From fisheries and cafes perched beside the sea with a perfect view of the marina, you can enjoy fresh seafood from the sea.

Taste delicious meals, including items made by local producers, such as tasty cheeses, mysterious fruits, and rich meats. Forget not to have an original Aussie barbeque while the sunsets and the sky colours turn the dusk into pink and orange.

Dining Area with Ocean View

Events And Festivals

Yeppoon has a vibrant festival and event calendar full of rich colours, celebrating the area’s beautiful natural surroundings, cultural heritage, and a strong sense of community.

Yeppoon is in the heart of the festival that Merrymaker does every year for a week. This is when the locals and visitors unite to celebrate music, art, cuisine, and fun. Therefore, the Yeppoon Village Festival is one of the place’s highlights. The carnival has shows, raffles, and entertainment for every age group, with live musicians, a street parade, a carnival view, and fireworks.

Apart from The Great Barrier Reef Festival, a colourful festival in tribute to the region’s marine heritage and environmental conservation projects, would you be interested in this?

The event, sponsored by Keppel Bay Marina and held against the mesmerizing scenery of the Marina, is comprised of interactive displays, seafood, and music, as well as environmentally safe activities to raise the importance of preserving the Great Barrier Reef.

Despite its small size, Yeppoon hosts several annual athletic and cultural events that draw non-residents from all corners. This place is always vibrant with activities. Be it from the Beach Cricket Carnival to the Capricorn Food and Wine Festival, something is always going on.

Options For Accommodation

Be it high-class seaside resorts or cozy boarding houses? It’s all about your budget and preferences here.

Beachfront resorts offer the comfort of spacious accommodations with picture-perfect ocean views and facilities such as pools, spas, and on-site restaurants that are an excellent choice for individuals seeking relaxation and luxury.

Boutique Guesthouses offer refined rooms, exquisite service, and peace of mind, which travellers seek.

Let’s take, for example, seafront eco-friendly camping stations or hidden forests camping spots with breathtaking views from within for those who love natural beauty and want to live entirely in it.

From adventure bounds to escaping from family fun to romantically getting away, Yeppoon offers accommodations for each type of tourist.

Final Thoughts

Like in the tropics, Yeppoon and the Livingstone region uniquely balance outdoor fun, natural beauty, and a chill-out factor.

Visiting Yeppoon is a fantastic option for any age of tourists, even if they are looking for stunning beaches and diving at the Great Barrier Reef and prefer to plunge into this community`s culture. Hence, take your things, go in, and discover the sea gems of this Central Queensland beachside paradise.

18 Reasons Yeppoon is Worth Visiting?

Drone Views of Yeppoon Beach

The small town of Yeppoon offers adventure seekers an untouched paradise full of stunning landscapes, unique activities, and chances to really get away from it all. But, is Yeppoon worth visiting?

With 30 years of living in Queensland and growing up nearby, I have spent a lot of time in this small, low-key paradise. More recently, this included two stays in the last 12 months.

So, if you’re looking for a laid-back vibe, read on to find out why I think you should check it out too!

This post may contain affiliate links that at no additional cost to you, I may earn a small commission. Please read my blog disclaimer, terms and conditions & privacy policy here for details.

Is Yeppoon worth visiting?

Key Takeaways: Yes, Yeppoon is worth visiting as a low-key getaway, near the best budget Island, brilliant weather, and stunning beaches. Whether you’re keen on hiking through lush national parks, chilling out in a local café, or simply spending your days soaking up the sun, Yeppoon has a magnitude of options for you.

Reasons it’s worth visiting?

The charming town of Yeppoon is located on Queensland’s Capricorn Coast , which is relatively central in the entire state. There are over 7 thousand people who live there, primarily enjoying the spectacular scenery in the region.

It’s about 40 minute’s drive from Rockhampton and the major A1 Bruce highway travelling between  Brisbane and Cairns . Either way, I would recommend veering off the highway for this stop and checking it out.

1. There is a massive Swimming Lagoon.

The FREE Yeppoon Lagoon is a big favourite for all visitors and certainly a lot bigger than I expected (About 2500 square Metres). It would be very easy to park here for the day and just laze around in the sun with a good book.

You have a small café, infinity edge, Lifeguarded, toilets, change rooms, and shaded areas for seating. Whether you’re looking for a challenging swim or just a peaceful place to relax, the lagoon boasts varying water levels and even a zero-depth play area for the little ones to splash around in.

The Lagoon is massive and worth checking out

2. You can follow the Art Trail.

While searching for walls and toilet blocks around town is not on everyone’s list. The artists out there might get a big kick out of the Street Art scattered and tucked away in various corners of the town. Surprisingly, there’s a world of art worth discovering on the streets of urban areas, all with incredible detail and design.

I especially loved all the sea creatures, like turtles and the Octopus, which was really fitting for the town of Yeppoon. Start by checking out the Surf Club, Kemp Beach toilet block, two sisters coffee bar, the lagoon and skate park, Barry Street, Queen Street car park, and the library.

There are so many random spots around town with street art

3. The Kraken Water Playground

I’m guessing the Keppel Kraken Water Park is a big hit in the summer time with the kids. It’s located on the foreshore, and this exciting water play feature boasts sea creature sculptures, water cannons, jets, and even an umbrella bucket.

And the best part? It’s zero depth, so the kids can safely splash around to their heart’s content while the parent watch on. Plus, there is always the backdrop of Keppel Bay to admire. And a safe place to visit when the beaches are closed.

I bet the Keppel Kraken is a big hit with the kids

4. The many beaches

The Capricorn Coast is just full of sandy shores to explore. And even better, with its string of breathtaking beaches , it’s the ultimate destination for those seeking a relaxing, laid-back getaway.

So whether you’re looking to take a refreshing dip, strolling for exercise, looking to go boating, or cast your fishing line in the shimmering waters, Yeppoon has got some options.

You can choose Main Beach, Kemp Beach, Lammermoor Beach, Cooee Bay Beach, Kinka Beach, and Fishermans Beach. And with the Keppel islands just off the coast, I think the waters are a bit calmer than other areas of the Queensland coast.

Pick and choose between the many beaches in Yeppoon

5. It’s only a quick trip to Great Keppel Island.

While  Great Keppel Island  isn’t as famous as other islands like Moreton , Whitsundays, or  K’Gari/Fraser Island , there are plenty of reasons to add it to your bucket list. And since I’ve lived in Queensland most of my life and visited nearly all the Islands, trust me when I say it’s worth a look!

➡  Compare prices for Great Keppel Tours HERE with Get your Guide, or HERE with Viator.

I’ll only had time for a short visit, staying two nights, but I bet I’ll be heading back again someday. Surprisingly, It’s one of the cheapest islands I’ve been to, even for a day trip, and has a very laid-back atmosphere. The great thing is that it’s only 30 minutes from the Keppel Bay Marina, and comfortable but simple accommodation is available.

We spent a morning trekking over to Long Beach

Yes, the beaches are simply stunning, and being part of the Great Barrier Reef makes it a  great spot for snorkelling  and scuba diving. However, the island has so much more to offer than just that! It’s not surprising that we found plenty of time just to take a break from activities and chill out in the Hideaway Bar and Grill.

Views from the Lookout point on Great Keppel Island

6. Take a break in a Café or Restaurant.

If you’re a foodie or looking for things to do when it’s raining, then Yeppoon has a few options to choose from to indulge in some mouth-watering adventures. With the seaside reputation, there are lots of alfresco options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Try creative and wholesome cuisine, or savour the different flavours and modern Australian cuisine. Some have rustic flare, while others boast an impressive seafood selection. We stopped into a place called Jolt for Breakfast and we were nothing but happy with our meals.

Yeppoon has a nice alfresco dining atmosphere

7. Watching a Sunrise over the ocean

Yeppoon is on the east coast of Australia, so the sun rises over the ocean waters and is an awe-inspiring sight. Every morning you’ll find plenty of people walking the esplanade or the beachline to witness this natural wonder as the sun peeks over the horizon.

The sky transforms into a stunning array of colors, from shades of pink and purple to vivid oranges and yellows, casting a warm glow over everything in its path. This is the perfect moment for meditation with the sounds of waves, birds in the distance, and absorbing all that vitamin D.

Sunrise Views from the Beach

8. Exploring the Capricorn Caves

Just close by and a short distance north of Rockhampton, there is the  Capricorn Caves . This is a top-rated stop when travelling from Brisbane to Cairns, and I can confidently say that they are absolutely worth your time. However, they are very different to the other caves I’ve seen around Australia or the rest of the world.

➡  Compare prices for Capricorn Cave Tours HERE with GYG, or HERE with Viator.

You’ll be transported to a different world, from the underground cathedral to the fossilized remains of a giant marsupial, along with stalactites and stalagmites. Despite being one of the driest rock formations out there, the caves are teeming with unique features that make them pretty special.

Capricorn Caves Rockhampton Queensland

9. Take in the views on the Mt Archer Skywalk.

Before leaving the Rockhampton area, don’t miss the chance to stop at the  Mount Archer Skywalk . The Nurim circuit goes from the car park on a well-maintained pathway that turns into a boardwalk. What’s special about this trail is the overall view of Rockhampton from the National Park tree tops and the surrounding plains.

In particular, at sunset, the cascade of colors in the sky mixed with the view of the city below is truly magnificent. And if you are lucky, you may even spot some of the local wildlife, like wallabies and echidnas, on your stroll along the skywalk.

Rockhampton Mount Archer Skywalk, Queensland

10. Stroll along the Memorial Walk

The Emu Park ANZAC walk memorial is among the many memorials scattered across Australia. What sets it apart is the exceptional coastal boardwalk, which provides visitors with views of the area and learning its meaning. Essentially, ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corporation.

As you stroll along the boardwalk, you’ll come across historical pictographs etched into sandstone, telling stories of sacrifice and heroism. The gatehouse is floor-to-ceiling storyboards of the First World War, featuring portraits of locals. It offers visitors a valuable opportunity to remember and honour those who have given their lives for their country.

Take your time strolling along the Memorial Walk

11. Shell World

A small gold Coin donation will get you into Shell World, but that’s after you’ve checked out the Tourist Information Centre in the front. This remarkable display of over 20,000 specimens, including marine, land, and fossil Shells!

And don’t worry if you’re not an enthusiast, the displays are fully documented and presented in an easy viewing format that will entice and engage everyone. You’ll also have the opportunity to feast your eyes on preserved marine life, stunning corals, and shell craft samples.

Plus, the volunteer staff have an explosive amount of information to share if you have the time to listen.

You find some interesting information at Shell World

12. Hear the sounds of the Singing Ship.

The Singing Ship is a 12 metres tall structure, and I can tell you that I have seen nothing else like it in Australia. It was Built to commemorate the historical explorations of Captain James Cook. The unique design of the Singing Ship represents the billowing sail, mast, and rigging of his ship, the Endeavour.

But that’s not all! Thanks to concealed organ pipes, the wind and sea breezes are used to create beautiful musical sounds (singing) that hypnotize your mind. Obviously, it pays to be around when the winds are high, and all you do is sit down, close your eyes, and listen to the enchanting melody.

remember to stop by the Singing Ship Structure and Listen for the sounds

13. Byfield National Park

The Byfield National Park was an addition we did a few years ago, but I do hope to make it back there again someday. Primarily, our visit was to a place called  Stoney Creek , with a day parking area and an awesome FREE swimming spot to check out.

What you need to remember is the waters are constantly running here and mainly on the cooler side, especially in winter. Since our visit was in August, I think my fingers were very numb after swimming, but it would be utterly refreshing in the summer.

Stony Creek, Byfield National Park Yeppoon

Apart from that, this is a 4WD beach driving area, and we drove all the way out to Sandy Point. This was a lunch stop for us, but others were fishing from the white sandy shores or swimming in the clear ocean waters.

Enjoying the beach at Sandy Point in the Byfield National Park

14. Browse the Streets Markets

You can find bargains galore at any of the street markets, and it’s quite a popular activity on the weekends. Try browsing through some unique sellers who specialize in local arts and crafts, souvenirs, fruit and veggies, handmade jewelry, and quirky home furnishings.

Visit Stevenson Park at the showgrounds every Saturday between 6am and 10am, or Fig Tree Creek Parkland (near Ross Creek roundabout) on the first Sunday of every month.

Aerial View of the Capricorn Coastline

15. Bluff Point Walking Trail

The Bluff Point Lookout Trail starts at the end of Kemp Beach and loops around the National Park. It’s around 2.3 kilometres long and offers panoramic views of the coastline. The turtle lookout is roughly a 600-metre climb, but the track is formed with lots of stairs and is relatively easy for most hikers.

To be honest, we walked in thongs, but some areas are more suited to some sort of closed-in shoes. The Turtle Lookout is where you can take in the sights of the Keppel Bay islands in the distance and watch turtles swim in the water below. Unfortunately for us, some bad weather had stirred up the water, and there was no way we were seeing anything that day.

Hiking lovers will enjoy Bluff Point Walking Trail

16. Visit a Wildlife Park

While I prefer to see animals in the wild, I know the opportunities to visit parks are a much easier option for some people. The Corrburrie Park Wildlife Sanctuary and the Korana Crocodile Farm are both nearby and available for you to explore.

At either one, you can see a stunning variety of animals, from the  Australian kangaroos  and Koalas, to goannas, cassowaries and the salt water crocodile. And if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can even book an animal encounter experience and get up close and personal with some of the park’s stars.

17. Check out the Baga National Park

I’m not sure we found the Baga National Park too exciting, but if you’re looking for somewhere for something new to do, then you should check it out. There’s a 1.1-kilometre walking trail from the main road to the mountain’s base, and it only takes about 30 minutes.

Take in the magnificent geology of this 221m high trachyte plug and capture a photo of the Hoop Pine growing on the summit. Keep your eyes peeled, and you might spot a rufous fantail flitting below the forest canopy.

It’s important to note that scrambling up the mountain’s rocky slopes and cliffs is not recommended, with people becoming lost, falling, and injuring themselves.

You will see Baga National Park driving in to Yeppoon

18. Stop by the Keppel Bay Marina

The Keppel Bay Marina is the starting point for exploring the beautiful Keppel Bay Islands, including the iconic Great Keppel and Pumpkin Islands. With over 500 berths, it’s the largest marina in the region and has won multiple awards for its top-notch tourist facilities.

Take a break from your island-hopping adventure and grab a bite to eat at The Waterline Restaurant, which boasts a delicious menu and breathtaking views of the charter vessels cruising the bay. Otherwise, you can stop in before heading out on your day trips or Island destinations.

The Marina is your gateway to the Island and a Restaurant with views
