Vintage Camper Trailers Magazine showcases an exquisite 1965 Chevrolet C20 truck and Travel Queen truck camper.  Hop into the bucket seats, tune the radio to “My Girl”, and take this gorgeous vintage rig across America on Route 66.  Yes, please!

Travel Queen Time Capsule

Paul Lacitinola, Publisher of Vintage Camper Trailers Magazine, has sent us another 1960’s treat; a stunningly preserved 1965 Chevrolet C20 truck and Travel Queen truck camper.

You might remember Paul from the exceedingly rare 1961 Golden Airstream he hauled behind a Capri truck camper in 2019.  The resulting article, “ Silver Capri Tows the Golden Airstream ” is a fascinating Airstream history lesson, restoration saga, and truck camping adventure, all in one.

As we explored the photos Paul submitted, we were amazed at how simultaneously familiar and foreign this rig is.  More than half a century since their debut, the pairing offers the majority of the basic utility and function of a modern truck and camper.

Trucks have obviously come a long way, but most of us could hop into the front bench seats of this C20, turn the ignition key (remember those?), fire-up the radio, find some ’65 hits (Wolly Bully, Help!), tug on the column-mounted shifter and cruise.

The most jaded among us might be confounded by the lack of screens or Bluetooth, but the rest would be right as rain driving this classic.  In fact, I bet a number of you would be smiling ear to ear.

You’re actually picturing it in your mind, right now.

The radio: “You’ve lost that lovin’ feeling…”

You: “Oh yes I have. And she’s right here.”

Okay, stop that.  Wax nostalgic on your own time.

The camper is also impressively current with its list of standard design features.  The straight kitchen has a propane cooktop, oven, refrigerator, sink, counter space, and storage.  The U-shape dinette has a huge table, cushions for comfort, more storage, and an analog (how hip) wall clock.  There’s no image of the cabover’s bedroom, but suffice it to say it has a bed and storage – just like most of our campers today.

What’s missing from the modern list is a bathroom.  And yet, we’re currently seeing a resurgence of hard-sides campers without bathrooms in an effort to simplify and save weight.  What’s old is new.  Even some of the mid-60s styling choices are highly sought after for their vintage vibe.

Thank you for sending the Travel Queen Time Capsule, Paul!  We’re head over cabovers in love with it, and I bet we’re not alone.

Who doesn’t dream of the day they are the ones to stumble on a well-preserved barn find?  A glimpse of history that has been kept and cared for to be in much the same condition it was decades ago.  For some of us, the hunt is most of the fun.

Vintage Travel Queen Camper

Unfortunately, I didn’t find this one in the barn.  I found this one on the VCT Classified ads .  Jeff Cecilio is the one that stumbled on it in the wild and realized what a jewel it was.  Jeff cleaned it up and has taken it to a couple of car shows before deciding to pass it on to the next caretaker.

“You may have heard of the ‘King of the Road’. This is the Queen.”

This 1965 Chevrolet C20 pickup and Travel Queen truck camper special was a one-owner time capsule.

Travel Queen Camper Kitchen

The truck was originally purchased at Fairway Motors in San Bruno, California.  The camper was bought nearby in San Francisco.  The combo was stored for thirty-years in its original paint.

Travel Queen Inside Truck

Jeff installed new original style bias-ply tires, radiator, and brakes.  There is even a notebook and miscellaneous documentation of the pair’s history that will go with the sale.  The truck has a four-speed transmission and runs and drives great.

Want to learn more about the history of slide-in campers?  All About Pickup Coaches and Campers, a paperback from January 1, 1962 by John Gartner, is a worthwhile addition to your library of vintage RV literature.

All About Coaches Book Cover

Mid-century America gave way to a population that traveled the highways and enjoyed the great outdoors.  Trailers, RVs, vans, busses, and campers were designed to provide you with home-like creature comforts while you were on the road.  Most were well used or long forgotten and deteriorating from moisture and rodents.  It’s not every day you find one that has been cared for in a way that future generations can enjoy her.

Vintage Camper Trailers Magazine doesn’t limit itself to bumper pull trailers.  For even more vintage camper, trailer, and RV hobby info, subscribe to The Vintage Camper Trailers Magazine in print and/or digital formats.  We also offer a free newsletter if you would like to stay in touch with us.  If you camp vintage, we hope to see you at one of our rallies or events.

$1,900 Motorhome: 1969 Travel Queen

travel queen camper

Spring is almost here, at least visually, in the upper-Midwest where we’ve been hammered by recent snowstorms. I always get the travel bug at this time of year and this 1969 Travel Queen motorhome would be a fun project – the price is certainly right at $1,900. It can be found on craigslist in Manteca, California.

travel queen camper

As someone who grew up camping, or what we called camping, which was inside of an insulated, sandwich-construction aluminum Winnebago truck camper, I have always had a soft spot for these early campers and motorhomes. A Class-C (van chassis) motorhome like this Travel Queen would have been like going to the moon compared to the four of us crammed into the back of a pickup camper, or into the front of a pickup. The Travel Queen’s v-shaped cab-over front helped it to cheat the wind and its round top helped with cross winds. If any of you have traveled in a big camper or motorhome, you know that feeling.

travel queen camper

There are no photos of the passenger side at all which is always worrisome, but hopefully the seller would send more photos to any serious buyers. There was no need for a “CL archive” on this one as all six photos will be shown here and the entire description consists of: “Starts right up. Refurbished inside.” No really, that’s it. This is one of the most interesting shapes on a Class-C motorhome with the rounded top and extra “trunk” on the rear. You can see that this one needs work but for $1,900 this seems like a no-brainer for anyone into vintage camping. Here’s a nicer example and what this one could look like with a little elbow grease.

travel queen camper

Speaking of vintage camping, the Ford Econoline van chassis is about as cool as it gets for me on a mini-motorhome. The interior looks great although it’s in need of a cobweb removal service… The seats appear to be original for this make and look like they’re in great condition. It doesn’t look like this example has AC, there would have been a set of vents in the center of the upper-dash. I don’t see anything really frightening on the cab portion of this Travel Queen other than some possible spiders lurking under the dash and elsewhere. There is no mention as to if everything works but apparently it starts right up and that’s a good thing. I’m mentally going through a list of things that I would do, and they include the usual: brakes, belts, hoses, fluids, shocks, tires, etc. I would also add dual-exhaust for a little extra oomph and MPG. I know, it doesn’t yield much of either of those things, maybe 2 mpg, but it wouldn’t hurt.

travel queen camper

Travel Queen made pickup campers earlier than this Class-C, or mini-motorhome, and from what I’ve found in the unbelievably-sparse information out there on this company, they went out of business in the late-1980s. They were based in Riverside, California and had another manufacturing plant in Nappanee, Indiana, close to the mecca of the RV industry in this era – Elkhart, Indiana. There are only two photos of the camper portion of this rig, the one shown above and a little different angle shown here . It’s always a bummer to see a vehicle being used as a storage unit but it happens. This one has a kitchen next to the bathroom and shower but there are no detail photos. Here are two photos of another similar Travel Queen motorhome  kitchen and bathroom area as a reference. If this motorhome were closer it would hard to not buy it. Have any of you owned a vintage Class-C motorhome? What do you think of this Travel Queen for $1,900?

1968 Ford Mustang

Make sure you talk to Alex Trebek about final life ins. before driving this. About as aerodynamic as a brick, and will handle like one. That overhang is going to cause trapped wind and buffeting, trust me, in stiff winds or semi coming the other way, it will be a handful. These vans handled awful WITHOUT a camper. Looks like a nice unit, once you got there, that is.

Already gone… Someone must have thought it was a good deal.

New 2023 Jay Flight 380DQS : Camper with 2 Queen Beds Separated into Two Private Bedrooms

Update May 2023 – Finding campers with 2 queen beds is not that easy, moreover if we are talking about a travel trailer with 2 queen beds. So, it is worth it to update this list from 25 campers to 26 campers with 2 queen beds including a new 2023 floor plan. Here we have the new 2023 Jay Flight 380DQS travel trailer with 2 queen beds.

Jay Flight 380DQS Camper with 2 Queen Beds

The 2023 Jay Flight 380DQS Travel Trailer has two queen-size beds on opposing ends of this 40-foot travel trailer . This trailer’s midsection features a fully equipped kitchen, a huge living room, and a slide-out booth dinette area. The amusement center is directly across the street.

This new floor design also includes a few alternative options, such as substituting the back queen-size bed with a King-size bed or establishing a front quad bunkhouse instead of a front queen bedroom, among other feasible layouts.

This travel trailer’s full dry bathroom is in the center. Overall, this travel trailer with two queen bedrooms weighs less than 10,000 pounds, which is astounding considering it is 40 feet long, has two slides out, and can sleep a family of five.

The size of the U-shaped booth dinette in this travel trailer is well-balanced for a family of five.

The outside of this travel trailer features a 19-foot awning and three storage compartments.

Travel trailers with 2 bedrooms and the space to accommodate large families is a tall order. Does a Bunkhouse Count as a Second Bedroom in a Travel Trailer?

Fortunately, the answer is “Yes it counts!” If you’re living in an RV full-time, you understand that every space counts in a big way!

And if you are a parent looking for ways to make the most of your kids’ bunkhouse room or if you use it as a spare room (or perhaps an office!) then you know how important a second bedroom is to your tiny living quarters.

Travel trailers with two bedrooms can also offer premium features such as a washer and dryer as well as two bathrooms, which we will discuss later.

Optional second-bedroom RVs offer so much versatility.  Whether you are an empty nester, need a spare bed for when company comes for a visit or you are a family with kids, a second bedroom in your camper trailer, which is oftentimes called a bunkhouse, may be the perfect option for you.

Let’s face it:  Many RVs can measure less than 300 square feet – so a second bedroom can really prove itself to be a valuable asset especially if you are living in it full-time or for an extended period.

Two-bedroom campers are the perfect solution when you need separate sleeping areas.  The two distinct spaces offer not only sleeping privacy but an alternate room for when you need a little “me” time.

With that said, two-bedroom RVs or bunkhouses are becoming increasingly popular.  If there is a particular feature you are looking for such as rear living or rear kitchen, your options may be limited or the availability at the RV dealership may be small.

If you are considering buying a Travel Trailer with 2 Bedrooms we highly recommend that you rent one first. You can rent a Travel Trailer for a week and learn everything you like and don’t like about it so when you are ready to buy you will know exactly what you want! 10 Best Travel Trailers With Two Bedrooms For 2024

Welcome to our list of best travel trailers with two bedrooms! With that being said, these aren’t the only travel trailers out there with two bedrooms. This is simply a list of the ones we think are the cream of the crop.

1. Grand Design Transcend 321BH

Grand Design Transcend 321BH Exterior Travel Trailers Two Bedrooms

Our Pros and ConsOur Pros and Cons

✅ Dual-entry with a full, walkthrough bath and a half bath on the opposite end

⛔ If a guest is in the main bath, you’re stuck in the bedroom unless you exit and walk around

  • UVW:  7,738 lbs
  • Tongue Weight:  728 lbs
  • Length:  36.9′
  • GVWR:  9,295 lbs
  • CCC:  1,557 lbs

The Grand Design Transcend 321BH is not just a quad-bunk set-up. Alone, that’s a great feature. However, there are also two bathrooms in this rig, and the advantages of that are many. This is especially true since the main bathroom is a walkthrough, and if the kids are using that bathroom, you might find yourself trapped on one end or the other.

As far as mobility, the dual-entry aluminum steps are a welcome feature. It helps to move about the travel trailer, even when both bathrooms are occupied. Don’t let the two-bedroom design fool you into thinking this rig lacks space either. It’s surprisingly spacious within, even more so than it looks from the exterior.

2. Coachmen Catalina Legacy 293QBCK

Coachmen Catalina Legacy 293QBCK Exterior

Our Pros and Cons

✅ Modular bunk room allows for a larger degree of arrangement creativity

⛔ Carpet in the slide and floor vents throughout

  • UVW:  6,884 lbs
  • Tongue Weight:  744 lbs
  • Length:  34.1′
  • GVWR:  9,500 lbs
  • CCC:  2,616 lbs

Two feet shorter than the number one spot, the Coachmen Cat alina sleeps three additional people! Now that’s a primary example of excellent space utilization. Some travel trailers with two bedrooms underwhelm when it comes to remaining, available space.

However, this rig embraces the ideal living conditions of a large family, in a smaller rig than some of the others on this list, without any notable sacrifices. There’s only one bathroom, but that’s not a bad deal either, especially since its large, spacious, and includes a bathtub.

3. Gulfstream Conquest 33DBDB

Gulfstream Conquest 33DBDB Exterior

✅ Tons of storage space in every room, from cabinets and wardrobes to hidden access

⛔ Vents in the floor throughout

  • UVW:  9,680 lbs
  • Tongue Weight:  1,160 lbs
  • Length:  40.6′
  • GVWR:  11,747 lbs
  • CCC:  2,067 lbs

The Gulfstream Conquest 33DBDB comes closer to the mobile home look than any of the other travel trailers out there that come with two bedrooms. Though the squared-off front cap may not be to everyone’s liking, the massive windows more than make up for it, with the perfect, panoramic view.

As big as it is, storage capacity is expected, and the Conquest doesn’t disappoint. It’s loaded with storage options throughout, a boon for large families, with a shade over a ton of cargo carrying capacity available. If you prefer size in your travel trailers, this one is right up your alley.

4. Cherokee Black Label 304BHBL

Cherokee Black Label 304BHBL Exterior Travel Trailers Two Bedrooms

✅ Full access to the entire rig, even with the sides in

⛔ Vents in the floor

  • UVW:  8,433 lbs
  • Tongue Weight:  943 lbs
  • Length:  37′ 3″
  • GVWR:  9,985 lbs
  • CCC:  1,152 lbs

The striking contrasts of the black, gray, and white interior aesthetics in the Cherokee Black Label 304BHBL , are just one part of a much greater whole.

Everything in the Black Label is designed with both space and size in mind. These include the dual-sink island in the galley, the double bunks opposite the single couch, and the large sofa perfectly positioned across from the TV.

If you have kids, one of the features you’ll appreciate is bathroom access while the slides are still in. Those tiny bladders often mean frequent stops on a long haul. There’s only a single entrance, but the exterior TV setup, outside cooking station, awning, and slide make up for the loss.

5. Cruiser Embrace EL32BH

Cruiser Embrace EL32BH Exterior

✅ Massive kitchen and bathroom space

⛔ TV is a “neck-wrecker” setup

  • UVW:  7,134 lbs
  • Tongue Weight:  1,016 lbs
  • Length:  36′ 6″
  • GVWR:  9,816 lbs
  • CCC:  2,682 lbs

What’s not to embrace about the Cruiser Embrace EL32BH ? Travel trailers with two bedrooms sometimes skimp on space to accommodate the design. However, the Embrace comes with a very large second bedroom, mostly thanks to the slide.

It allows for a large entertainment space with bunks on two sides and a convertible couch. It also includes an entertainment center so the kids can watch TV while you catch up on your shows out in the primary living area.

6. Winnebago Voyage 3538BR

Winnebago Voyage 3538BR Exterior

✅ The large shower and high ceiling are a plus for taller people

⛔ Outside of the island, counter space is a little limited

  • UVW:  9,582
  • Tongue Weight:  1,018 lbs
  • Length:  38′ 11″
  • GVWR:  11,000 lbs
  • CCC:  1,418 lbs

Just looking at the floorplan, a lot is going on with the Winnebago Voyage 3538BR . It’s not that complicated, however, as most of it is just optional design features. Regardless of what you choose to go with, the Voyage is an immensely spacious rig, with a high-ceiling shower that will make tall people so grateful.

It’s a single-bathroom setup, though the bathroom is private and not a part of the master bedroom. There are also storage options galore, and we always appreciate the entertainment center when it’s set up directly across from the sofa.

7. Open Range Light 321BHS

Open Range Light 321BHS Exterior Travel Trailers Two Bedrooms

✅ Bunks are incredibly spacious and no vents in the floor throughout this RV!

⛔ Toilet is kind of in a tight position, especially if you have long legs or knobby knees

  • UVW:  8,760 lbs
  • Tongue Weight:  1,000 lbs
  • Length:  37.7′
  • GVWR:  9,995 lbs
  • CCC:  1,325 lbs

From entry-level campers to travel trailers with two bedrooms, Open Range (or Highland Ridge under Jayco) is known for designing accessible RVs that are wide open for DIY projects or future repairs. The Open Range Light 321 BHS is no exception. Its simplicity is layered with robust features throughout.

From the fantastic entertainment center (directly across from the theater seating) to the spacious, dual-opposing bunk room, the 321BHS is clearly made for larger families on the move. Space isn’t just a luxury in the second bedroom either. It also applies to the master, with plenty of walk-around space and storage options.

8. East To West Della Terra 291BH

East To West Della Terra 291BH Exterior

✅ Multiple arrangement options in the bunk room

⛔Exterior kitchen is a little underwhelming

  • UVW:  8,328 lbs
  • Tongue Weight:  1,190 lbs
  • GVWR:
  • CCC:  1,662 lbs

One of the best travel trailers with two bedrooms on our list is the East To West Della Terra 291BH . If you’re traveling as a family, the heated and enclosed underbelly increases the time of the year you can travel and expands your journeys northward.

The king bed in the master bedroom is always a nice option, especially since there is still a little room to move about in there. Counter space is robust as well, with the L-shaped counters expanding your kitchen utilities a bit. There’s only one bathroom, but it’s spacious as well, including a large shower.

9. Palomino Puma 28BHSS2

Palomino Puma 28BHSS2 Exterior

✅ Large and spacious RV with accessible bathroom even with the slides in

⛔ Fuse panel is in the guest room; which potentially problematic with curious children

  • UVW:  7,574 lbs
  • Tongue Weight:  843 lbs
  • Length:  36′ 11″
  • GVWR:  9,063 lbs
  • CCC:  1,489 lbs

The Palomino Puma 38BHSS2 is one of the more straightforward options on our list of travel trailers with two bedrooms. There’s a queen in the back and a queen in the front. The sofa converts into another bed, in case you are entertaining guests and the kids are also along for the ride.

Sometimes, the best choice is often the most simple and this particular Palomino offers perfection in simplicity. Even the angled entertainment center is simple and highly effective, especially if you hate breaking your neck at an odd angle from the couch.

10. Jayco Jay Feather 29QBH

Jayco Jay Feather 29QBH Exterior

✅ Lightweight travel trailer that still maintains a ton of space, along with the two bedrooms

⛔ Plastic toilet (understandable given Jayco’s attempt to keep the weight down

  • UVW:  6,970 lbs
  • Tongue Weight:  785 lbs
  • Length:  36′ 1″
  • GVWR:  8,500 lbs
  • CCC:  1,530 lbs

As the name implies, the Jayco Jay Feather 29QB H is one of the lightest travel trailers with two bedrooms on our list. The entire point of the design is to keep things lightweight. While that means a plastic toilet instead of porcelain, it’s also the difference between a truck upgrade and sticking with what you have.

The interior is beautifully designed, with sharp contrasts that compliment, rather than jar against each other. The living space throughout is exceptional as well. As light as it is, it still supports double bunk beds and additional, flip-up bunks in the same room. Not bad for a Feather!

Are there Camper Trailers with Two Bedrooms and Two Bathrooms?

So if you are already thinking you need a two-bedroom camper trailer, this question may have crossed your mind too. Fortunately, the answer to this question is also yes, but they are a bit more tricky to find because of demand.

If you are on the hunt for a 2 Bedroom 2 Bath Travel Trailer, here are some models you might want to consider:

  • Coachmen RV Freedom Express Liberty Edition 326 BH DSLE
  • Keystone RV Outback Ultra Lite 301 UBH
  • Jayco White Hawk 32 BH
  • Highland Ridge RV Open Range OT338 BHS
  • Crossroads Sunset Trail SS331BH

Advantages of Travel Trailers with 2 Bedrooms

travel queen camper

What are some advantages in particular that make a two-bedroom travel trailer the best option?  Most of the two-bedroom RV floorplans have opposing slide-outs and bedrooms on opposite ends of the camper trailer.

Not only does this increase your living square footage, but it also gives you and the others in your camper trailer some additional privacy.

On top of that, many bunkhouse RVs come with extras like a built-in desk, additional storage, a second couch, fold-out tables, and enormous floor space in the spare bedroom for the children to play.

A two-bedroom travel trailer RV can be welcoming and comfortable for a family with two or more children. The floor plans and details in the RVs make this camper trailer option unmistakably great, and it is neat to see how they incorporate the extra space, privacy, and features into a two-bedroom.

Entertainment centers, bars, fireplaces, and even cozy outdoor kitchens can be viewed as big advantages when you have extra guests traveling with you. Some RVs come with a U-shaped dinette which offers additional seating and storage underneath usually.

Also, some may offer a double entry and access to the second bath from the outdoors.  This is particularly great if you have kids and do not want them to go in and out of the main camper area for the bathroom.

If you love cooking, then looking for a 2-bedroom travel trailer with an outdoor kitchen may be an important advantage. With the extra guests traveling with you, an extra cooking space may be the answer.

With an outdoor kitchen, you may get an additional refrigerator, pull-out cooktop, cabinets, ice maker, and even a sink!

The last advantage to a two-bedroom RV is a front master bedroom with a rear bunkhouse.  This is quite sought after in the RV world. Usually, the bunk room has its own entertainment center and storage up under a top bunk on the opposite side.  An extra bath near the bunk room area is just icing on the cake!

Many models will easily sleep four adults and four kids. With a queen master bed, converted dinette bed, and bunkhouse, these models can offer a diverse range of amenities and spaces such as these to meet your specific camping needs.

Disadvantages of Travel Trailers with 2 Bedrooms

When you first step into a two-bedroom travel trailer, the first thing you will notice is the smaller living and kitchen area. This is completely due to the fact the RV manufacturer had to steal some space from there to make the second bedroom.

Most RVers would say they do not like the decreased kitchen and living room areas at all, and it is the biggest disadvantage to a two-bedroom travel trailer.

Tight spaces mean little to no privacy.  If you are the type of person who likes quiet, being cooped up with other people in a small confined space may not be your best option. Of course, many believe confined spaces bring people together!

Usually, these floor plans come with a dinette booth which is dual purpose – can be used for eating as well as folding into another bed option. Of course, if you are the person having to sleep on a dinette fold-out bed, you will have zero privacy.

If you are a young child, however, which in most cases this would be who slept here, it may not be a big deal.

It’s not all bad, though!  Travel trailers offer so many affordable options for those wanting more than one bedroom. RVs with slide-outs greatly improve some of the cons. This can be a lifesaver when more than two people are living in a small space on those rainy

Are There Camper Trailers with Two Bedrooms and Two Bathrooms?

Final words about travel trailers with 2 bedrooms.

Travel trailers with two bedrooms are not as uncommon as you might think. In fact, with the improvements in technology (improving strength and lightening the weight loads), more and more of them are cropping up, here and there.

One thing is for sure, you won’t lack options when you start hunting down the best one for you and your family. This list is a fantastic starting point and includes some of the best the industry has to offer.

If you’re ready to take your family on the road, your adventure starts here!

Please help. We can’t seem to find the Travel Trailer floorplan we want. Any suggestions? *Two fixed adult beds, not fold outs, pull down, etc. Two twin beds are fine *Theater seats directly across from the Large Screen TV – not off to the side *No carpet *Full bathroom and the toilet isn’t sitting in front of the shower or sink *37 ft long or slightly shorter, not longer *Well built – excellent quality *Air Flow system – heating and cooling NOT directly above the beds *Model 2018 or newer Thanks, Denise

Nice assortment of different Travel Trailers, my favourite is not on your list, it is the 2020 Coachman Catalina LE 343 BHTS Travel Trailer

Thanks for sharing! Mike

The Best Travel Trailers with Murphy Beds

travel queen camper

  • Length: 24’10”
  • Dry Weight: 4,542 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 2,450 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 4

The most unique layout on this list and my favorite, the Sundance 21HB is a solid start to the top ten travel trailers with Murphy beds.

The rear dinette area opens up the middle of the RV for an expanded kitchen and a spacious bathroom, all under 25 feet. I love that there is a full closet in the Murphy bed area, a feature other compact RVs on this list are missing. The bathroom even includes a small soaking tub perfect for bathing small children or pets!

My favorite feature is the flip-up baggage door at the rear of this travel trailer. This feature gives the RV an indoor/outdoor feel, making it an ideal hybrid camper for stowing recreation gear and camping toys.

How I Ranked It

I just can’t imagine this being a bad choice for couples or small families on the go. The overall layout lends a sense of privacy to all folks by putting the convertible dinette at the rear. But let’s be honest–this is about the baggage door. Part of camping for me is taking in the sights and sounds of nature, which allows you to do that while still in the comfort of your RV. I’d look forward to rainy days at camp where I could flip up the door and listen to a storm roll through while staying dry.

(2) East to West Alta 1900MMK

east to west alta 1900mmk travel trailer with a murphy bed

  • Length: 25’
  • Dry Weight: 5,463 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 2,147 pounds

The Alta 1900MMK is designed for couples seeking a cozy, home-like experience on the road. The queen Murphy bed converts to a lovely seating area with a removable table by your theater seats. Though this travel trailer doesn’t have a dinette, I don’t think you’ll miss it much.

The kitchen is my favorite part of this RV with Murphy beds. It has abundant counterspace spanning the length of the travel trailer and huge under-counter storage drawers. I wish this model had a backsplash for that subtle touch of home, but I can overlook it with the amount of counterspace I’m getting.

This travel trailer with Murphy beds feels like a mini apartment on wheels. It’s cozy and has tons of cargo capacity (2,147 pounds worth). I love the interior layout and use of space. If you are traveling with kids, this is not the RV you need. However, for a couple on the go who might have an occasional guest, the Alta 1900MMK is one to consider.

(3) Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S

Father and son playing games in Rockwood Mini Lite camper

  • Length: 25’11”
  • Dry Weight: 5,499 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,434 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 8

There’s one thing I can count on with Forest River: smart, space-aware designs. The Rockwood Mini Lite 2509S is no exception. Other Murphy bed travel trailers on this list use rear corner bunks to increase sleeping capacity, but Forest River does it best.

One of the standout features of this travel trailer with Murphy bed is its bathtub. Most RVs only come with a shower option. If you have young kids or small pets you need to clean after adventures, having a deeper shower basin is a little bit of a luxury on the road.

I may not be traveling with kids, but this camper is high on my list for the innovative features Forest River includes. From the U-shaped dinette to the L-shaped kitchen with a pop up counter, this RV has everything you need for a great adventure.

(4) Forest River Flagstaff E-Pro 19FD

forest river Flagstaff E-Pro 19FDS

  • Length: 20’2”
  • Dry Weight: 3,417 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,015 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 3

Short and sweet. The Flagstaff E-Pro 19FD is a compact Murphy bed travel trailer built with couples in mind. It’s the shortest on this list and perfect for those who don’t want the hassle of towing some of the larger, heavier RVs.

When the Murphy bed is pulled down, some campers might find the interior space slightly cramped because this travel trailer doesn’t include a slide. Still, you have a nice-sized kitchen, a full-size shower, and everything you need for a stay of any length.

This travel trailer with Murphy beds is an excellent option for couples on the go. It’s got everything you need, but it doesn’t have any of the extras. When looking side-by-side, the indoor/outdoor feel of the Heartland Sundance and the expansive counterspace of the East to West Alta edge out the Flagstaff for my top spots for couples.

(5) Jayco Jay Feather 21MML

  • Length: 25’5”
  • Dry Weight: 5,225 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,275 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 6

The Jay Feather 21MML is another great option for couples. One of the big differences in this camper is the extra kitchen space at the rear of the floor plan. You get countertops, overhead storage, and the sink and storage on the back of the travel trailer, with the three-burner cooktop, the refrigerator, and additional counterspace in the off-campside slide-out.

Speaking of the slide, this travel trailer with Murphy beds is one of the larger RVs on this list, and it opens up the interior space. The bathroom is large, with a built-in linen closet, which also adds to the intelligent design.

I won’t lie; the Jay Feather 21MML surprised me. I often don’t find that Jayco’s interior layouts fit my personal preferences. Their signature vintage farmhouse interior features millennial gray floors, which wouldn’t be my first choice. But this travel trailer has a really nice design. The kitchen provides a fair amount of counterspace and storage, and the linen closet in the bathroom actually boosts this travel trailer up on the list.

(6) East to West Silver Lake 1700BHLE

  • Length: 22’10”
  • Dry Weight: 4,693 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 972 pounds
  • Sleeping Capacity: Up to 7

The Silver Lake 1700BHLE is a versatile bunkhouse travel trailer that combines practicality and comfort, making it an excellent choice for families. This RV offers rear bunk beds with convenient storage underneath, ensuring everyone has space to sleep and store their belongings. When the Murphy bed is pulled down, the main sleeping area boasts a queen-sized bed with nightstands and a single wardrobe on the campside.

The bright and welcoming interior has a slide-out with a booth dinette, maximizing the living space and offering a comfortable place for family meals. Though not the most robust kitchen, it does feature a two-burner stove, a microwave, and enough counterspace for food prep.

The East to West Silver Lake 1700BHLE has everything you need to feel at home on the road while providing comfort for all travelers. Kitchen space is important to me, so this RV’s lack of counterspace kicked it down on my list.

I’m also traveling only with my husband, and while the bunks are a great option for extra travelers, it’s just not the space we need. But if you are traveling with kids, the Silver Lake is worth the look!

(7) Keystone Passport SL 189RB

Keystone Passport Exterior

  • Length: 22’11”
  • Dry Weight: 4,875 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,625 pounds

The Passport SL 189RB is another stand-out option for couples. This small camper with a bathroom opens up more space in the middle of the RV for the kitchen and storage. The L-shaped counters use great space, and the pop up counter adds extra surface area for cooking on the road.

This travel trailer with Murphy beds also includes an enclosed underbelly for all-season travel. Combined with home-like interiors and smart design choices, this is a good option for couples traveling together. Another family-friendly feature is the small outdoor kitchen. While it’s not the largest, you’ll have a pull-out griddle to expand your cooking options.

This RV with Murphy beds is good but not great. While I like that the rear bathroom opens up more living space, this travel trailer feels like it lacks some of the smarter storage options you’ll find in other RVs on this list. For example, the kitchen lacks a true pantry and only has modest storage options.

(8) Jayco Jay Feather Micro 199MBS

  • Length: 23’1”
  • Dry Weight: 4,505 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,245 pounds

The Jay Feather Micro 199MBS is another solid option for families. The interior is built around simplicity without sacrifice, and it includes rear corner bunks so everyone can have a comfortable stay. The U-shaped dinette also converts to a larger extra sleeping space than you’ll get in Murphy bed campers with a booth dinette.

This towable trailer with Murphy beds includes side and rearview cameras, making parking at your campground a breeze. You also get Jayco’s Rock-Solid Stabilizer system to ensure you are level anywhere. It is also Climate Shield TM tested, so you’ll be comfortable inside whether your trip is to Death Valley or North Cascades .

This is a fantastic option for a simple, efficient travel trailer with Murphy beds. However, the finishes bring it lower on my list. It’s a personal preference, but I am not a big fan of millennial gray and modern interiors. It feels like it lacks a certain personality and doesn’t have many of the value-added interior features that some of the other travel trailers with Murphy beds on this list include.

(9) Keystone Hideout Sport 181BH

Hideout Sport Exterior

  • Length: 22’9”
  • Dry Weight: 4,060 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,140 pounds

The Hideout Sport 181BH is another affordable bunkhouse travel trailer with a Murphy bed. This compact and lightweight trailer does not sacrifice interior features. If you have a full crew, the bunkhouse provides an extra sleeping area. If you don’t, flip up the bottom bunk for additional storage for bigger toys like mountain bikes.

That kind of versatility makes a huge difference in a travel trailer under 24 feet . Besides the flip-up bunk, this Murphy bed travel trailer has a modest kitchen with a two-burner stove, a single slide with a dinette, and a spacious bathroom.

The Keystone Hideout is very simple, but it needs some of the storage solutions included in other small travel trailers with Murphy beds on this list. The kitchen has no pantry, the counterspace is small, and the bathroom lacks a medicine cabinet. These might be negotiable for you, but I prefer more organization options when I travel.

(10) Heartland Pioneer BH170

Murphy Bed-travel-trailers-with-murphy-beds

  • Length: 22’5.75”
  • Dry Weight: 3,880 pounds
  • Cargo Capacity: 1,144 pounds

If you want a lightweight travel trailer with a Murphy bed, the Pioneer BH170 might be it. This travel trailer is the lightest on the list, making it easy to tow and maneuver for almost any truck or SUV. Still, we always recommend double-checking your vehicle’s towing capacity .

Part of what makes this travel trailer with Murphy beds so light is the lack of a slide-out. If you choose to max out this camper’s eight-person sleeping capacity, the interior space will feel quite cramped at a length of less than 23 feet. Still, this travel trailer has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is surprisingly robust, with a dual-basin sink and plenty of counterspace. The bathroom even includes a deeper shower basin!

The Heartland Pioneer BH170 rounds out our list because of the high sleeping capacity without a slide. While the interior uses the available space efficiently, extending the Murphy bed takes up most of the interior space. I’m a big fan of personal space when traveling. My husband and I have a 6-person tent just for the two of us. This trailer feels too small for me to rank it higher on the list.

How To Make an RV Murphy Bed More Comfortable

Couple asking retail specialist for help at Camping World

You can make an RV Murphy bed more comfortable by adding a high-quality memory foam mattress topper or replacing the mattress with one designed for RVs. Consider using a mattress pad for added softness, and ensure the bedding is breathable and fitted.

How Much Weight Can a Murphy Bed Handle?

The weight capacity of a Murphy bed typically ranges from 500 to 1,000 pounds, depending on the model and installation. It’s essential to check the manufacturer’s specifications for the exact weight limit and ensure the bed is securely mounted to handle the intended load safely.

What Are The Disadvantages of a Murphy Bed?

Murphy beds can be less comfortable than traditional beds, especially if the mattress is thin or low-quality. While setup and breakdown are easy, they can also be a bit tedious. The bed’s hardware is also more likely to require repairs over time than a standard RV bed.

Travel trailers with Murphy beds provide great space-saving options without sacrificing comfort. But there are many other layouts for you to explore! Check out some of these alternative floorplans to find your perfect RV.

8 Small RV With Bedrooms with Lots of Space

The wrong place for contortion is in the too-small master bedrooms of RVs.

Sometimes it seems like you have to transform into “Flexo the Fantastic” in order to get into your camper’s bed at night.

When you’re in the right position, you may wonder what the RV engineers were thinking when they designed a master bedroom that was too tiny.

We’ll go through the reasoning behind why RV master bedrooms in 25-35 foot travel trailers are too tiny .

You’ll discover the extras that RV designers incorporated to the bedroom to make the area seem less cramped.

We’ll demonstrate how to make the most of the most popular floorplans where customers have complained that the master bedroom in an RV is too tiny.

The 8 Best Examples of Spacious Small RV Master Bedrooms

#1. coachmen freedom express ultra-lite 238bhs: travel trailers with murphy bed.

  • Length: 25.9 ft.
  • Dry Weight: 5,314 lbs.
  • GVWR: 7,600 lbs.
  • Master Bed: Residential Queen-size Murphy bed

Residential Queen-size Murphy bed for the master bedroom

Although the murphy bed has been around since the 1800s, it wasn’t used in RVs until the Modern Era (2008- Present).

Murphy beds are most often misunderstood as lacking “real” mattresses.

RV builders carve out a large space beneath the moveable frame to accommodate mattresses that are 10 inches thick.

The tiny RV master bedroom is not a problem with this sort of design during the day or at night.

The Freedom Express Ultra-Lite 238BHS by Coachmen fully utilizes the Murphy Bed as the supreme Space Saver.

The bed may be folded up during the day so you can use the couch as seating.

The jackknife couch just has to be flattened, the locks on the murphy bed only need to be pulled, and the bed won’t need to be made again.

The area is not constrained by a wall at the foot of the bed, and you won’t bump up against the sidewalls because of the room’s broad sidewalks.

The youngsters may draw the privacy curtains so they can have their own pocket world and will appreciate their full-size 50″ x 74″ bunk beds.

You can adjust the LED TV above the kitchen counter with a set of Bluetooth headphones and end the night watching your preferred streaming program.

#2. Winnebago Micro Minnie 2108TB: Travel Trailers With Dual Twin Beds

  • Length: 22.7 ft.
  • Dry Weight: 4,040 lbs.
  • GVWR: 5,500 lbs.
  • Master Bed: Dual RV Twin OR King with bridge pillows

What is outdated is updated.

A sizable section of the population believes that RVs with two twin beds are just for those retro “fuddy-duddies.” The truth is that this layout is popular among “whipper-snapper” Millennials and other younger-at-heart age groups.

The two twin beds offer several benefits:

  • Compared to a double bed, there is greater storage below.
  • The bridge pillows allow you to convert the twin beds into a king.
  • It’s simple to get in and out of bed because of the roomy space between the beds.
  • When you get out of bed, you don’t wake up the person next to you.
  • If you travel with a companion and your relationship has clear limits, everyone may feel at ease and have their own space. See number 2 if the nature of the connection changes.

The Micro Minnie 2108TB from Winnebago has the additional advantage of being an RV with a rear bathroom.

The whole width of the integrated dry bath gives you a spacious shower and lots of space to roam about.

Additionally, Winnie positions the dinette on the slideout next to the off-door, leaving ample of space around the coach for wandering.

The Flying W also has a flip-up counter for more surface area for food preparation.

#3. Dutchmen Kodiak Ultra-Lite 201QB: Travel Trailers Without a Slideout

  • Length: 24.1 ft.
  • Dry Weight: 4,072 lbs.
  • Master Bed: Residential Queen

The 201QB is a good option for couples seeking for a travel trailer to pull with their Rivian R1T for weekend excursions one or two hours away from home.

When you’ve finished that 15-mile walk or navigated those Class IV rapids, this tiny monster makes a great mobile headquarters.

To discover more about the Rivian R1capacity T’s for towing, pick up a free copy of RV Camping Magazine’s June issue.

You won’t have to worry about inside walls or cramped side walks around the front residential queen-size bed thanks to the Dutchmen Ultra-Lite 201QB’s open concept.

For a travel trailer that isn’t more than 30 feet long, the inside room is enormous.

If you track in any mud and dirt from your expedition, the all-laminate flooring is simple to clean up.

You’ll also appreciate the large corner shower as you “decontaminate” and reclaim your humanity.

Your vehicle is powering your Kodiak travel trailer’s RV alarm system while you fall asleep that night while daydreaming about your fantastic excursion.

This time, the bear won’t approach your campsite as often.

#4. Heartland North Trail 22RBK: Travel Trailers Without a Separating Wall

  • Length: 26.35 ft.
  • Dry Weight: 4,852 lbs.
  • GVWR: 6,900 lbs.
  • Master Bed: Comfort Select Short King

RVs with slideouts may also have open-concept floorplans.

They are most common in trailers under 30 feet, although families and couples may also have them from RV manufacturers.

The front master bedroom’s privacy curtain is an addition made by the Heartland North Trail 22RBK.

The easiest method to prevent a master bedroom in an RV from being too tiny is to take the partition down altogether.

The off-door slideout’s U-shaped dinette is to blame for this.

The huge dining set accommodates six people, allowing you to host dinner parties, utilize it as sitting when not in use, or even turn it into extra bedroom for two people by removing the pedestal table.

Look at that master bed size one more before you pass this mid-size RV by.

A king bed in a travel trailer under 5,000 pounds is quite uncommon.

Since it’s simple to lower the dry weight of a lightweight trailer, most RV manufacturers will only allow a queen or short queen.

The extra-large mattress, king-sized dinette, heater, extreme freight carrying capacity (2,016 lbs.), and other amenities were instead installed by Heartland.

Heartland completes the concept with a back bathroom that is located next to an outdoor kitchen for an RV.

You’ll discover deep cabinets with shoulder-level storage in the bathroom area.

The refrigerator, pull-out sink, and slide-out counter that make up the outdoor kitchen are stored behind the cabinets.

#5. Jayco Jay Flight SLX 8 267BHS: Travel Trailers With 2 Bedroom Entrances

  • Length: 30.4 ft.
  • Dry Weight: 5,840 lbs.
  • GVWR: 7,000 lbs.
  • Master Bed: RV Queen

Two entryways from the living area to the master bedroom were designed by RV makers.

Walking between the foot and the inside wall is no longer necessary thanks to this concept.

It’s a design strategy that enables the owner of the master bedroom doors to better seal off the room than a curtain.

The side windows on each wall give the area a wider, brighter vibe.

Additionally, the paths are wide enough for you to change.

The bunkhouse travel trailer Jayco Jay Flight SLX 8 267 BHS has a 30 and a half foot length with an outside kitchen.

The coach’s layout is ideal for an expanding family.

Toddlers can get clean up in the tub-style shower, and the dinette or jackknife couch makes a wonderful first bed.

With the exception of the foot corner, the double bunks are completely enclosed by walls to prevent them from rolling out.

The privacy curtain will be appreciated by your adolescents as a means of isolation from others who “don’t get it.”

#6. Keystone Springdale 274RB: Travel Trailers With Dual Entry Doors

  • Length: 31.7 ft.
  • Dry Weight: 7,026 lbs.
  • GVWR: 9,520 lbs.

The stroll area at the foot of the bed will surprise you in the Keystone Springdale 274RB.

A large portion of it is related to the secondary entrance.

The RV Industry Association (RVIA) and other organizations have established RV construction rules that state that every room in a motorhome or travel trailer must have two exits for safety reasons.

A second door must be used in place of an escape window in travel trailers longer than 30 feet.

RV makers employ the secondary door in some units as an entrance into the bathroom so that it may serve as a mudroom in order to make the most of these second doors.

In this instance, the front secondary door serves as a practical spot to keep your lengthy things when traveling.

For instance, the space between the bed and the inner walls may accommodate your bikes, kayaks, or other items that are too tall to fit in the pass-through storage area.

The additional room also reduces the need for acrobatics during the dressing process.

The walk-in pantry located next to the front entrance door is undoubtedly a fantastic feature.

The pantry is a fantastic spot to keep your tables and other equipment if you also use your travel trailer for tailgating.

Therefore, the RV’s outdoor kitchen will surpass the other team’s tailgate pre-game get-together any day of the week and twice on Sunday, whether you pull in for the big game or your kids’ weekend playoffs.

#7. Lance 2465: Travel Trailers With a Rear Master Bedroom

  • Length: 29.5 ft.
  • Dry Weight: 5,875 lbs.
  • GVWR: 7,800 lbs.
  • Master Bed: Deluxe King

You’ll discover that RVs with rear master bedrooms offer the required walk-around bed height, breadth, and space.

The Lance 2465 is a mid-size travel trailer with an office if you wish to work while on the road.

The long desk can accommodate two persons, but if you want a private area, the edge of the dinette doubles as a fantastic second RV workstation.

If you find yourself staying up late working, all you have to do is turn about in your office chair, and your king-size bed will appear.

Make sure to turn everything off before you do your zombie crawl into bed, even if you purchase the optional twin 190-watt solar panel system.

You won’t enjoy the phrases your spouse uses to wake you up to show their irritation if they get up before you and are unable to use the coffee maker since you used all the house batteries.

#8. Airstream Flying Cloud 30FB Bunk: Airstream North/South Master Bed

  • Length: 30.10 ft.
  • Dry Weight: 6,672 lbs.
  • GVWR: 8,800 lbs.
  • Master Bed: RV Queen (60-inch x 75-inch)
  • Lower Bunk- Residential Full (54-inch x 76-inch)
  • Top Bunk: Narrow Twin XL (30-inch x 78-inch)

The conventional and laminated fiberglass paneled travel trailers that make up the majority of the RV trailer category have been covered so far.

The longest variants of the double-hulled, molded fiberglass towables had living areas that are under 20 feet, so we didn’t discuss them.

The Airstreams are a whole industry unto themselves.

Many details about the new Flying Cloud 30FB Office are available (see out the September edition of RV Camping Magazine), but some overlook the layout upon which it is built.

The office area of the 30FB Bed is situated between a nearly residential-size full-size bunk and an extra-long twin top bunk with a built-in roll guard.

The master bedroom’s side bed pathway areas are larger than those of almost any other model.

It is simple to maneuver around the bed thanks to Airstream’s rounded foot edges on the mattress.

Please keep in mind that Airstream only works with the greatest vendor brands before you think about upgrading the mattress.

The pillow top memory foam mattress satisfies the very strict requirements that the RV firm sets on its suppliers.

The Reason Why RV Master Bedrooms Are Too Small, According to Engineering

A demonstration is the most effective approach to demonstrate the mechanical reasoning for inadequate master bedrooms in RVs.

Grab some paper and a pen or pencil, then follow the instructions below.

  • In the center of the paper, draw a rectangle. Because you are creating the travel trailer’s external walls, don’t make the rectangle too tiny.
  • Draw a square to depict a queen-size bed in the middle of the short wall at one end.
  • On the other end, we will turn this unit into a rear kitchen layout, so make the countertop a long, thin rectangle that is placed against the short end of the inside wall. Next, put a tiny square for a refrigerator and a large rectangle for a dinette against one of the long edges.
  • Place a small rectangle to represent the entertainment center on the other wall from the couch, somewhere in the center of the inside trailer border. Remember to include the entrance door.

We came up with a straightforward design for the hypothetical back kitchen travel trailer.

However, it is the fundamental basis on which RV developers build their numerous models.

The challenging element is ensuring sure the coach meets goal weight requirements, adding additional amenities, and meeting timelines.

Of course, it is important to maintain production costs within reason.

You’ll note that every brand in the category and subsector has the identical layout whether you browse online or visit an RV.

That is due to the design’s success.

By the next model year, you’ll see the identical design concept used by the other RV manufactures that an engineer has come up with.

Being the first to identify the design idea is the actual challenge.

Making The Most Of A Small Living Space Is Possible.

travel queen camper

Making the most of every square inch of living space is one of the fundamental tenets that RV engineers follow.

Additionally, RV manufacturers anticipate that their clients want to use their coaches to the fullest when awake.

So they will move an inside wall if doing so increases the amount of living room space while staying within the bounds of authority and customer tolerances.

The master bedroom is mostly thought to be used for sleeping by RV manufacturers.

The benefit is a bigger living area with almost residential-sized furniture, appliances, and amenities that people use the majority of the time when they are awake, even if it may be a squeeze to get to either side of the bed.

RV master bedrooms are overly tiny as a result.

Through consumer feedback and surveys over the years, RV businesses have come to understand the value of adopting this strategy.

You’ll discover that certain floorplans in the mid-size travel trailer segment are better than others at providing a spacious living area and reducing the issue of an inadequate RV master bedroom.

Adjusting the master bed’s mattress size to provide the sides and end pathway up to 5 inches more room is one of the finest tactics RV designers utilize.

Using RV Bed Mattress Sizes to Save Space

RV bed mattress sizes are used by travel trailer builders to maximize space .

Have you ever attempted to make the queen-size bed in your RV using your own bedding? Did you discover that the fitted sheet wasn’t properly sized? There’s a rationale behind it.

A queen bed measures 60 inches by 80 inches in the realm of household mattresses.

You could have a full XL, short queen, RV king, or another variation in your motorhome or travel trailer.

Over the years, manufacturers adjusted RV mattress measurements, adding additional inches for cupboards, pathways, and properly shutting slideouts.

If your RV master bedroom is too tiny for comfort, you may be able to solve the problem by making your bed’s mattress smaller.

Residential or short queen mattresses bigger than the bed platform are typical in mid-size travel trailers.

By switching to a short queen or full XL mattress, it could be simple to open up the side passageways.

For homes and RVs, our partners at Tochta make the greatest mattresses, both regular and bespoke.

A chart that displays the width and length in inches and explains conventional residential and RV sizes is provided:

Using Tochta memory foam technology, they can create a variety of personalized mattresses, including:

  • 10 to 20 inches thick
  • 88-inch width by two
  • 200 to 200 inches long

If your RV has a rear corner bed, one of the corners may need to be softened or chopped diagonally to suit the area properly.

Many of the full-size bunks must have one corner chopped diagonally to make room for walkways.

You’ll have the most chance purchasing bed linens on Amazon and at other camping shops if your RV has a mattress that isn’t residential size.

The greatest solid colors and designs for RV linens are available to match the interior design of your motorhome or travel trailer.

There are also specific sheets with an RV theme.

Where Can I Find Big Bedroom Travel Trailers?

travel queen camper

Set your criteria to full-length travel trailers to uncover trailers with spacious bedrooms or complete master suites.

If you’re going to that level, consider a gas-powered 150/1500 series pickup truck or the Ford Expedition with the heavy tow package (9,300 lbs. towing capability).

For all that room and opulence to travel the American roadways, substantial power is required.

The RV master bedrooms in the aforementioned instances can be too tiny for comfort.

But now that you know why, you should also know how to unlock it.

5 of the Best Queen RV Mattresses

Vacationing in an RV allows travelers to sleep on the go, and replacing the camper mattress is often a necessary upgrade.

Many main bedroom beds in mid-size to large RVs come in queen or short queen size. Those opting to upgrade their short queen mattresses find the options less expensive than a queen, often lighter in weight, and more versatile to fit almost any RV. Every RV bed should be measured to assure a new mattress fits correctly.

The Sleep Foundation defines an RV short queen mattress in dimensions of 60” x 75”, but we found “RV” specific mattresses measuring longer and shorter. In fact, many of today’s higher end campers and RVs incorporate traditional mattress sizes, from queen at 60” x 80” to variations on king sizes.

Every sleeper has their own needs when it comes to the level of firmness in a mattress and individuals differ on other features provided by modern sleep technology. We have accumulated our recommendations for the best RV queen mattresses based on their standout features.

For campers looking to upgrade a child’s sleep the Lucid Gel Memory Foam is a wonderful mattress choice. The easy to access height of only 5” makes it easy to get in and out of bed and a plush top layer of foam helps ventilate the mattress and increase airflow and breathability. Four inches of bamboo charcoal-infused foam is hypoallergenic, meaning fewer allergic reactions. It is supportive enough for big kids. The bamboo charcoal infusion helps keep the mattress smelling fresh. Lucid Gel Memory Foam mattresses come in both queen and short queen sizes.

The Nolah Evolution tops the luxury mattress upgrades category (Photo: Courtesy Nolah)

LUXURY: Nolah Evolution

If size and length is not an option, as it is in most top-of-the-line RVs, the 15” Nolah Evolution is the most luxurious possibility. The high-tech, hybrid mattress is rated as the Best Mattress for Spinal Alignment by the Sleep Foundation. When it is too warm in the RV the heat-dissipating Euro topper and graphite-infused AirFoamICE layer provide adequate cooling. It can be hard to make a bed in the close quarters of a camper; the Nolah simplifies maneuvering this larger mattress with sturdy double-handles on each side. Underbed storage is now even easier to access. The stylish design of this upgrade is another advantage of this award-winning mattress.

HEAVY DUTY: BigDawg Mattress

Manufactured in Mount Airy, North Carolina, SleepDog mattresses are made for travel, literally. The company specializes in mattresses for big rig truckers and RVs and all models are Department of Transportation approved. The BigDawg Mattress is a 9” multi-layer, memory foam mattress made with a CoolRest comfort layer. Double sided construction allows for extended use. How to Choose a Short RV Queen Mattress

Short RV Queen Mattress

A good-quality RV mattress is a great way to get a good night’s sleep while on the road and camping.

However, with so many different mattresses on the market, it can be tough to know which one is right for you.

So to make things a little easier, here are a few things to keep in mind when shopping for a new RV mattress.

When shopping for a new RV mattress, it’s important to keep in mind that price can vary quite a bit from one mattress to the next, with quality RV mattresses usually ranging from $150 to $600.

With more expensive versions offering higher-end features, such as cooling technology, charcoal-infused foam, and multi-layer construction.

While it might be tempting, it’s best to steer clear of extremely cheap RV mattresses that are less than $150, as they typically don’t offer much support or comfort and usually aren’t much better than the mattress that came with the RV.

Size is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing an RV mattress because it doesn’t matter how comfortable it is if it doesn’t fit.

So before you start shopping for an RV mattress, make sure to measure the space you have to work with.

Which will typically be 60 inches wide by 74 or 75 inches long, if your RV has an RV queen-size bed.

However, it’s always important to measure to make sure, as the size of an RV bed can vary slightly from one RV manufacturer to the next.

The three main firmness levels of an RV mattress are plush, medium, and firm, however, there are also many different sub-categories of firmness as well, such as medium-firm and medium-plush.

When it comes to an RV mattress’s firmness though, it’s really just a matter of personal preference and what type of sleeper you are.

Most people, however, tend to prefer medium to firm mattresses, as they offer a good balance of support and comfort for all types of sleepers.

Construction Type & Materials

The construction of an RV mattress can vary quite a bit from one model to the next.

However, there are really only three main types of construction used for RV mattresses including foam, innerspring, and hybrid construction, which is a combination of both foam and innerspring construction.

Most RV mattresses usually include at least some foam though, which can either be memory foam, latex foam, or polyurethane foam.

While there are benefits to each type of foam, memory foam is usually the best choice for an RV mattress, as it’s very comfortable and offers good support.

Warranty & Trial Periods

Well-made quality RV mattresses will usually come with some sort of warranty, typically lasting between 5 and 10 years.

While a longer warranty is always better, it’s also important to make sure that the warranty is backed by the manufacturer and not just the retailer. It’s also important to read the fine print carefully.

As many mattress warranties are limited warranties, which have clauses in the warranty that allow the company to deny the claim if they deem the problem to be an issue of customer abuse.

It’s also worth pointing out that some companies offer a trial period that will let you try the mattress for a certain amount of time, usually 30 days.

And will provide a money-back guarantee if you’re not completely satisfied with the mattress.

RV Mattress Upgrades

While not a necessity, there are some upgrades that can make an RV mattress even more comfortable as well as enjoyable to sleep on, which we’ve listed below.

  • Cooling Technology
  • Charcoal-Infused Foam
  • Edge Support
  • Hypoallergenic Material
  • Removable Mattress Cover
  • Multi-Layer Construction
  • CertiPUR US Certified Foam

An RV short queen mattress is typically either 59 or 60 inches wide by 74 or 75 inches long.

A standard queen mattress will typically not fit in an RV without modifications, as most queen mattresses in RVs are actually RV-short queens, which are anywhere from 5 to 6 inches shorter compared to a standard queen.

Most RV queen mattresses use 60×75 inch sheets, though it’s always important to measure your mattress before purchasing to make sure.

When it comes to finding the best RV short queen mattress, there are a lot of things to consider, such as price, size, firmness, and construction.

Hopefully, though, you were able to find the perfect RV mattress for your specific needs, by reading our best RV short queen mattress guide.

Happy sleeping and happy traveling!
