There’s nothing about this family-friendly movie that’s outrageously offensive, but there’s nothing about it that’s particularly interesting, well-executed, or inventively conceived either.

A screenplay that never quite clicks on all cylinders. There are too many scenes dealing with relationships that really halt any momentum.

Journey 2 is simply magical.

Undeniably an exhilarating family friendly, action adventure that'll no doubt thrill younger audiences.

Like its predecessor, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a race against time to survive, but the inclusion of new characters adds a little more interest.

For a family, this is an agreeable Saturday outing, largely because director Brad Peyton doesn't set his sight higher than the material actually is.

"Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" is light, airy family entertainment that actually ends up being too light and airy.

It's a harmless, lighthearted film with wooden acting, a nice message about accepting your parents-whoever they are-and again, lots of ridiculous CGI.

What's interesting about this standard adventure tale is how it tells it's story: the barest bones of construction, and only the points you are already well versed with (from all the other adventure tales they've "borrowed" from) to get to the point quickly. Quite literally they find a "secret map written in code" and decipher the thing in less than 5 minutes, and then "it's off to the island!". Everything happens fast, and everyone's only playing a cliche, and so after a minute it becomes cool simply watching the race to the end. Should I tell you "no surprises here"? If I did, that would be the only surprise of this feature.

Better than the first mostly due to the fact that the cast were more likeable and the story wasn't as cheesy, It's still cheesy but it's fun, The effects were ok but some looked pretty bad in places, I can't comment on the 3D as I watched the 2D version but just like the first it looked like it would be good in 3D, The story was predictable but fun and most of all my kids enjoyed it and that's the films target audience so it's hard to be too critical.

I just finished watching on my cable this science fiction adventure comedy directed by Brad Peyton. This is a sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth, and is based on another Jules Verne novel, this time The Mysterious Island. Very unusual cast stars Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzmán, and Kristin Davis. The story was written by Richard Outten, Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn, and the screenplay by Brian and Mark Gunn. This movie became a box office success with a worldwide gross of nearly $326 million, surpassing its predecessor, I think mainly because of the 3D technology. The story is happening four years since the events of the first movie, and starts with the 18-year-old Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) involved in a chase with the police which ended with him driving into a swimming pool. His step-father Hank (Dwayne Johnson) arrives and later discovers that Sean had broken into a satellite research centre in order to boost the signal of a code he'd received by someone he suspects is Alexander Anderson, Sean's grandfather who had been missing for two years. Wanting to bond with his stepson the next day, Hank helps Sean decipher the code of Jules Verne and makes a map from the three books in the coded letter with the coordinates to its location. All they need to do now is to convince Sean's mother to let the both of them go in search of the island. This is a film with very likable characters and actors in an adventure which could excite the younger audience, but not too exciting for the older. It is moving quickly but parts of the story almost seemed unrelated at some moments. Directing seemed done without any motivation... that doesn't mean it was bad, but wasn't very noticeable. If you want to spend a night with a family watching something which is semi-sweet and very colourful, give it a go!

Journey to ridiculous. But nice visuals/SFX. The Rock delivers the same crappola performance he's famous for...sadly.

Travel expert reveals the biggest mistake commuters make on the journey to work

While some commuters love to read a book or admire the scenery on the train journey to their 9 to 5 , others are glued to their phone or laptop, already hard at work.

But if you’re travelling for hours, you might find your device running out of battery and in need of a charge – which is a big issue if your ticket is on your phone, or you don’t know the area you’re going to. 

In this day and age most trains come equipped with plug sockets, so as long as you’ve got a charger to hand, you’re sorted.

However, according to train travel experts, it would be a big mistake not to also bring a fully charged power bank along for your journey as well.

Mark Smith, the man behind popular train travel site Seat 61 , explained to Metro.co.uk why this is crucial – and what to do if there is a plug socket by your seat, but it isn’t working.

Mark, who has previously worked for British Rail and the Department for Transport, said: ‘Most newer trains have power sockets but some older ones like the local trains on my local line don’t, so a power bank is key as our phones are now our tickets, camera, camcorder, notebook and even on occasion a phone.’ 

So what do you do if that all-important plug socket isn’t working?

Mark continued: ‘It’s worth asking staff as sometimes it’s just tripped out and can be reset.’ 

The expert’s other top tip for train travel is to try and book ahead for inter-city rail tickets to get the best deals, but he claims that you don’t want to book too far ahead. A month or two, or even a few weeks out should suffice.

He adds: ‘It’s often best to book directly with the relevant operator as there’s then no booking fee added and sometimes there may be extra features such as seat selection from a seat map.’

This comes after we shared several top tips for saving money on train tickets , including a little-known GroupSave hack.

Many people are unaware of this trick, which allows groups of between three and nine people to get a third off the off-peak price.

Ticket machines may not show you this, so it’s best to book these at the ticket office or online. While you don’t need a railcard, one passenger does need to book all the tickets – just ask for GroupSave.

On Trainline, four separate off-peak returns from Cardiff to Bristol would set you back £128.80, yet with the GroupSave option, the total falls to just £84.80, representing a decent £44 saving.

If you’re travelling in a group of more than 10, contact the train company directly to see if you’re eligible for a discount.

How to save money on rail travel

Metro.co.uk spoke to the pros at Trainline to find out their insider secrets for booking tickets.

A spokesperson for Trainline said: ‘Don’t make a mistake you regret when buying your ticket: book early for the cheapest prices, as a recent Which? survey found that ticket machines at stations can charge more than twice the price of online tickets.

‘Look into getting a railcard — they save one-third and can pay for themselves in just one long-distance trip. And decide whether your priority needs to be maximum flexibility or minimum price, as you can save significant sums if you can commit to one specific train.’

Battahl is the second kingdom you’ll explore in Dragon’s Dogma 2 . There’s a lot to do in the starting area of Vermund, but, eventually, the game will lead you to Battahl for quests like “Nation of the Lambent Flame,” “A Case of Sculptor’s Block,” and “The Ailing Arborheart.”

Just past the Checkpoint Rest Town , though, you’ll find your path to Battahl blocked by a huge gate. And a grumpy guard.

Our Dragon’s Dogma 2 guide will explain how to get into Battahl (as a human or beastren), and also show you how to get into Battahl through a secret hidden back entrance.

To get into Battahl the official way, you’ll need to complete all of Captain Brant’s main story quests . This includes the starting three quests you get when you first meet him — “Monster Culling,” “ The Caged Magistrate ,” and “Disa’s Plot” — as well as the several more that branch off from those. You’re ultimately waiting to complete “ Feast of Deception ” and then pick up “Nation of the Lambent Flame.”

With the start of that quest, Captain Brant will give you a Beastren Border Entry Permit . The catch is that it’s only usable by beastren . So if you’re playing as a beastren, you won’t run into any problems, and will be able to just walk right in. If you’re playing as a human, however, you’ll be told to screw off.

But there’s a way around that.

How to get into Battahl as a human in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Inside the inn in Vernworth, there’s a book laying on one of the beds. If you read it, you’ll get a tip for how to proceed.

In the Checkpoint Rest Town to the west, you’ll find a shop called Ibrahim’s Scrap Shop . He sells forgeries and various other useful items — and he’s got the Jadeite Orb you need for another quest — but what you’re most interested in is the Beastren Mask , which costs 8,700 gold.

With that in hand, you’re ready to head into Battahl. Equip the Beastren Mask and go talk to the guard. He’ll let you through. When you want to return to Vermund, you’ll have to put the Beastren Mask back on if you’re a human.

How to get into Battahl through the secret back entrance

Yes, there is a path that lets you circumvent the gate at the Checkpoint Rest Town entirely. This is the route you’ll need to take if you’re not there on unofficial business (i.e., not part of the main quest). Just prepare yourself for a fight, as you’ll need to take on multiple powerful monsters — including a chimera — if you want to reach Battahl alive.

Leave the Checkpoint Rest Town going north like you’re headed back to Vernworth. Walk halfway over the bridge and then jump down into the river bed below. Head west and follow the river into the mountains.

The river eventually becomes a mountain pass that you can follow all the way to Thunderclap Cave , which will eventually bring you to Shutram Falls . When you reach the other side of the cave, you’ll officially be in Battahl and past the checkpoint gate.

Your first stop should probably be the campsite just south of the falls. But — if you’re not hurting too bad — you can make your way back up to the gate and stay at Zeplin’s Inn , which is on the Battahl side of the checkpoint.

From the inn, it’s about a 15-minute run to Bakbattahl, the capital city of Battahl.
