The concert was simply amazing, to be honest it was the best concert I've been to so far... I was extremely surprised what a deep, rough voice the lead singer of the band had, which gave the songs that certain something.

I can't say anything more but that the atmosphere and the whole show were incredible!!!

But also the service of the organizer "good news" was totally well structured and unique, there were no problems at all!

I'm definitely planning to go to another The Script-concert when they are in Switzerland the next time and I'm already looking forward to it!

... I just hope that they will be able to actually attend the show next time...!

OMG! If you have not seen The Script live, you must see them! They are an incredible live band. So much energy in the place. Not only was the concert great (Danny came down into the audience to do a song), but these guys LOVE their fans. There were over 100 fans lined up at the back gate and they came out and signed CD's, albums, shirts and verious body parts and took pictures with everyone. They left nobody out and didn't leave until everyone was happy. They really appreciate what their core fan base has done to support them. PLEASE SEE THIS BAND!! BUY THE NEW ALBUM FREEDOM CHILD! It's awesome!!

I attended my 4th The Script show on June 6th 2015 and I have to say, it was the greatest show out of all the one's I have been to. I was on the drummer's VIP list and I got to meet them (I have multiple times) and got great seats at the first show of the balcony. The music was perfect, the atmosphere was fantastic, and it was overall a great night. Glen Power (the drummer) noticed me up in the crowd and pointed and waved to me on multiple occasions and at the end of the show waved once more, attempted to throw his drumstick up at me, and blew me a kiss before walking off stage. Danny O'Donoghue (front man) also ran up to my seating area in mid song and high fived me and a bunch of other people around me. It was for sure a night to remember and I still haven't gotten over it. I am a huge fan of The Script and I would advise anyone and everyone to go to their shows. You'll completely enjoy it :) xx

About The Script

Irish trio The Script are one of the world ’ s most successful bands: five previous platinum-selling albums, 6 UK No.1 albums, 7 Irish No.1 albums, 6 billion streams, 30 million single sales, 11 million album sales, over 13 million monthly Spotify listeners and 2 million tickets sold across headline shows globally, plus their No.1 smash 'Hall of Fame ’ feat Will.I.Am recently surpassed a landmark 1 billion streams on Spotify. Last year saw them complete another headline arena tour taking their Greatest Hits tour on the global stage.  Highlights in UK & Ireland included huge shows at London ’ s The O2, Edinburgh Castle and Dublin ’ s 3Arena. The band also recently released a series of acoustic sessions offering stripped back versions of fan favourites including ’ Superheroes ’ , ‘ I Want It All ’ , ‘ For The First Time ’ and 'The Man Who Can ’ t Be Moved ’ .  They also recently released a new single ‘ Dare You To Doubt Me ’ recorded while on the road of their global tour.

About GAYLE

GAYLE ’ s debut EP, a study of the human experience volume one, captures the now GRAMMY-nominated 18-year-old singer/songwriter ’ s most specific and vividly real emotions: the tension between longing for connection and fearing vulnerability, the risk and thrill of refusing to compromise your own needs. Released in early 2022, the project features her electrifying chart topping smash single ‘ abcdefu ’ : a triple-Platinum anthem that propelled the Nashville-based artist to over 2 billion streams globally and such milestones as a recent GRAMMY nomination for “ Song Of The Year,” being named as a Billboard Music Awards finalist, receiving American Music Award and People ’ s Choice Award nominations for Best New Artist, and receiving 2 MTV VMA nominations. In the midst of navigating that whirlwind success, GAYLE headed back into the studio to create ‘a study of the human experience volume two’ — a powerful new EP that doubles down on its predecessor ’ s unapologetic truth-telling, highlighted by the playfully chaotic ‘ fmk (with blackbear) ’ . “ If my music can help other people to make better sense of themselves, to come to terms with who they are and what they ’ re feeling, then that means the world to me,” says GAYLE. American Songwriter perfectly summarises: “ GAYLE ’ s uncensored honesty as a lyrical storyteller is what makes her music so captivating.” Praised for her magnetic live performances, GAYLE will be on tour across North America and Europe throughout the first half of 2023.

Why the road to the Masters looks different this year

Austin Eckroat en route to victory at PGA National on Monday.

getty images

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — Pebble was a short week (the tournament ended on a Saturday) and Cognizant ( nee Honda) was a long one , what with the Monday finish. Two PGA Tour Sundays, taken from us by way of storm. That’s OK. Tiger likes to say that Father Time is undefeated, but Mother Nature has some record, too.

You could look at Rory’s week and say it was a long one, playing on Monday-night golf (Match IX) at a public course near here called The Park , followed by a Wednesday pro-am and four tournament rounds here at PGA National , a resort course, and ending with the Monday pro-member at Seminole ( way  private), playing with his father, Gerry McIlroy, a member and a stick. Rory does not look at it that way.

“This is the life I’ve wanted,” Rory said in Sunday night’s dusk, having barely managed to squeeze in the final round. “This the life I’ve asked for. This is what I want to do. I like being busy when it’s stuff I want to do.”

Of the thousands of shots I saw played over the course of eight days in South Florida, the most memorable was the last man-in-full shot I saw Rory hit at the Match, playing with Max Homa, Lexi Thompson and Rose Zhang. It was a smashed driver and his golf ball, lighted by floodlights and moonlight, rose and rose until it disappeared into the darkness for several seconds before reemerging on its ways down, like an earthbound spaceship, back into the light. As E.B. White once wrote, “Always be on the lookout for the presence of wonder.”

The most unlikely shot I saw was played by Michael Stephens, Jake Knapp ’s caddie. It was a hole-high three-finger cut 4-iron into a wee breeze in a Tuesday-afternoon practice round on the par-3 17th at PGA National. No practice swing, no warning, no anything. The caddies get another practice-round par-3 swing at TPC Sawgrass, on the island-green 17th, during the Players. Mike’s man played his way into that event, by way of his win at Mexico.

Knapp played with McIlroy for three straight days at PGA National. That is, the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches. As in the phrase, the road to Augusta begins at the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches. Back in the Greg Norman heyday, golf hands used to say that the road to Augusta begins at Doral, for years the start of the Florida Swing. G. Norman and 56 LIV players will be back at Doral, now Trump Doral, in early April.

After winning in Mexico, Knapp flew through the night to Florida and played in The Jake on Monday, an annual pro-am at the Bear’s Club that honors the short life of Jake Nicklaus, one of Jack and Barbara Nicklaus’s grandchildren. On Tuesday, Jake Knapp played a practice round. He played the 72 holes of the tournament over five days. This week he’ll play in the Arnold Palmer Invitational for the first time. Then the Players for the first time. Next month he’ll play in the Masters for the first time. A 29-year-old PGA Tour rookie. Everything he’s done in this game he has earned.

When LIV Golf first became a thing, Jack Nicklaus said what he has often said, that there’s “always a next generation of stars.” A next generation of stars, and a next generation journeymen who help them sparkle. His point was that as LIV Golf signed stars with guaranteed contracts — a Phil Mickelson, a Dustin Johnson, a Martin Kaymer (!) — the world’s other tours would develop new ones. Min Woo Lee (his parents emigrated to Australia from South Korea) and Jake Knapp (from Southern California and Erik van Rooyen (from South Africa) all semi-contended at PGA National.

The winner was Austin Eckroat, an Okie who saw Tiger Woods win at Southern Hills as a little kid in 2007. They’re on the rise in this difficult and global game. All they need to do is shoot the scores, and they will play their way into your consciousness. How cool is that? See you at Augusta, gents.

A Willy Wonka-inspired experience ‘scam’ was so bad that people called the cops

People who attended a Willy Wonka-inspired “Chocolate Experience” in Glasgow, Scotland, were promised “extraordinary props, oversized lollipops, and a paradise of sweet treats” — all promoted with dreamlike, candy-colored images on its website .

When ticketholders arrived at the event over the weekend, they instead found a sparsely decorated warehouse with nothing resembling the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” franchise the event invoked in its advertising.

“It was just ridiculous. I mean, just very amateurish. Absolutely nothing like what was described,” said Alana Lockens, who paid £35 per ticket, or $44.40 , to take her two young kids to the experience. “For the sake of my children, we were trying to be happy and smiley so that they wouldn’t pick up on the disappointment and just tried to make the best of a bad situation.”

House of Illuminati's "Willy's Chocolate Experience" event

Outraged attendees immediately began posting their experiences online, calling the event underwhelming and a “scam.” Some people quickly likened the event to the infamous Fyre Festival , a chaotic and pricey island concert that was falsely advertised as a “once-in-a-lifetime musical experience.”

By Saturday afternoon, the experience had been canceled and local police confirmed to NBC News that they were called to the scene after attendees who felt conned began demanding refunds. And further examination, along with interviews of people hired to work the event, hints that artificial intelligence-generated media may have played a key role in creating its veneer.

The event website touted interactive exhibits, and images shared on the site couldn’t be found elsewhere on the internet through reverse image searches. Some bore known hallmarks of AI creation, most notably strange and nonsensical lettering.

Two actors hired for the event who spoke to NBC News said they were promised £500 to perform in themed costumes that weekend. They each said the script they were given appeared AI-generated because of its “gibberish” wording. And when they showed up for rehearsal Friday night, more alarm bells went off.

Michael Archibald said he heard back the same day he applied to the acting gig, which was listed on the jobs site Indeed. When he showed up to rehearse the day before the event, the warehouse still looked barebones beyond a few props, and he said costumes weren’t delivered until rehearsal was nearly over.

Things didn’t look much better when he arrived the next morning.

“I thought, this is where dreams go to die,” he said of his reaction upon walking into the warehouse Saturday. “I already could feel the embarrassment. … I knew the script was AI-generated, as well. I was like, this isn’t normal human writing.”

House of Illuminati's "Willy's Chocolate Experience" event

The event was hosted by the London-based event company House of Illuminati, which was incorporated just three months ago, according to the U.K. government agency Companies House. It describes itself as “a realm where fantasy and reality converge to create unparalleled immersive experiences.” The company didn’t respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

In the hours after the event’s abrupt cancellation, House of Illuminati posted a now-deleted statement on its Facebook page promising to return attendees’ money.

“Today has been a very stressful and frustrating day for many and for that we are truly sorry. Unfortunately last minute we were let down in many areas of our event and tried our best to continue on and push through and now realise we probably should havd cancelled first thing this morning instead,” the post said. “we fully apologise for what has happened and will be giving full refunds to each and every person that purchased tickets.”

It isn’t entirely clear whether the company used AI to generate its promotional images and character scripts, and the company hasn’t addressed the topic.

Ever since the ongoing explosion in generative AI technology made it easy for internet users to instantaneously create web copy and images from text prompts, many sellers and services have begun using AI-generated content in their marketing . Deepfakes of celebrities and influencers advertising certain products have also circulated in recent months, tricking some potential buyers.

Paul Connell, another actor hired for the event, said some scenes in the script were “absolute nonsense” and impossible to replicate without special effects. The actors said event organizers soon told them to scrap the scripts and just improvise as the characters they were supposed to play.

At one point, Connell said, the actors began to suspect that the event was a sham and that they were unlikely to receive payment for their work. But after they discussed the situation among themselves, he said, they decided to stay and try to entertain the children as best as they could.

Paul Connell in his Willy Wonka costume

“I just thought of it as I just want the kids to have a good time. So I’m going to be silly and take photographs with them and play little games with them,” Connell said. “There was a little girl dressed as an Oompa Loompa that was just really upset, because she’d expected Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and got a dirty warehouse in Glasgow.”

Connell said the situation began to deteriorate soon after the event began. He said he took a lunch break as his “sanity was starting to go” — and returned to see chaos unfolding.

“There was just a mob of people outside and inside. It was carnage,” Connell said. “I joked when I walked back in, ‘I’ve been at lunch an hour, what’s happened?’ And there was people just running everywhere, shouting, threatening the organizers.”

By then, the Police Service of Scotland had been called to the scene. A spokesperson said in an email that it wasn’t a police matter but that officers offered advice to frustrated attendees.

Lockens said she has received an email confirming her refund but hasn’t yet received the money in her account, which House of Illuminati’s post said can take up to 10 working days.

The company’s director, Billy Coull, appears to have wiped most of his online presence since he drew backlash for the event. Coull didn’t respond to requests for comment through his Instagram page.

Disgruntled attendees have also created a Facebook group called “ house of Illuminati scam ” to share their experiences at Willy’s Chocolate Experience and organize efforts to secure refunds.

Box Hub, the event venue that rented out its space to House of Illuminati, said in an email that it has been in contact with several parents about offering its venue as a space to host another event for the families who were dismayed by last weekend’s.

“We would love to offer our venue completely free of charge as a gesture of apology on behalf of House of Illuminati, who either have no regards for the families and young children they have disappointed or are too embarrassed to comment,” operations manager Matt Waterfield wrote.

He reiterated that Box Hub had no involvement with House of Illuminati’s event beyond renting out the Glasgow venue and said the company was “shocked to see the way this event had unravelled after being led to believe this event would be a ‘fully immersive showcase.’”

For Lockens, purchasing five tickets for her family made a sizable dent in her wallet. But she said she thought the experience would be worth it for her children, who are major fans of all things Willy Wonka. (The event’s website said it had no official affiliation with Warner Bros., which owns the rights to the Willy Wonka character.)

“It’s just not what I expected at all, and it certainly was not worth £35 per ticket,” she said. “In the midst of a cost-of-living crisis in the U.K., that’s money that most families won’t be able to afford to part with for something that was just so terrible.”

2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational odds, field: Surprising PGA picks, predictions by model that nailed 10 majors

Sportsline's proven model simulated the arnold palmer invitational 2024 10,000 times and revealed its pga golf picks.

will the script tour in 2023

The 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational is set to get underway on Thursday, March 7, and several players will enter this week's event at Bay Hill confident they can secure the victory. Scottie Scheffler won this tournament in 2022 and he's racked up six career victories on the PGA Tour. Scheffler is the No. 1 ranked player in the world and he's finished T-10 or better in six of his last seven starts on tour.

Meanwhile, Justin Thomas, a 15-time PGA Tour champion, can add to his impressive resume with a victory at the 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational. Thomas has finished T-12 or better in three of his first four starts this season, proving he has what it takes to get back in the winner's circle. The latest 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational odds list Scheffler as the 6-1 favorite, while Thomas is going off as a 22-1 longshot. Before locking in your 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .

SportsLine's proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,700 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model included Hideki Matsuyama in its best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000.

The model also predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic. This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the Arnold Palmer Invitational 2024 field is set, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard .

Top 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the Arnold Palmer Invitational 2024: Rory McIlroy, a 24-time PGA Tour champion and one of the top favorites, struggles this week and doesn't even crack the top five. McIlroy won this event in 2018 after firing a 64 in the final round and he secured a T-2 finish at Bay Hill in 2023. However, he has struggled out of the gate in 2024, failing to crack the top-15 in his first three starts on the PGA Tour this season.

McIlroy remains one of the best drivers on tour, but he's been inconsistent with every other aspect of his game this season. The 34-year-old enters this week's event ranked 173rd in strokes gained: approach to green (-0.868), 127th in putting average (1.791) and 147th in putts per round (30.00). He also ranks 151st in scoring average (70.43), which doesn't bode well for his chances to finish on top of the leaderboard at Bay Hill this week.

Another surprise: Jordan Spieth, a 20-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday.

Spieth has been red-hot early this season, finishing T-6 or better in two of his first four starts. He's been able to secure those positive results thanks to his impeccable iron play and consistent putting stroke. The 30-year-old enters this week's event ranked second in greens in regulation percentage (77.31%), third in putting average (1.671) and 11th in strokes gained: putting (0.934). His ability to drain putts after putting himself in an advantageous position has helped Spieth rank third in birdie average (5.50) and fifth in scoring average (67.58). Those impressive stats, plus his long odds, make Spieth a strong play for your 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational bets.  See who else to pick here .

How to make 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational picks

The model is also targeting four other golfers with odds of 20-1 or longer to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's picks here .

Who will win the 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational, and which longshots will stun the golfing world? Check out the Arnold Palmer Invitational 2024 odds below and then visit SportsLine to see the projected Arnold Palmer Invitational leaderboard , all from the model that's nailed 10 golf majors, including last year's Masters and Open Championship.

Karol G, Woman of the Year, Women in Music

Her 2023 Was Huge, But Karol G Is Planning ‘Far Bigger Things’

After notching chart and touring records — and winning her first Grammy — Billboard's 2024 Woman of the Year is "rising to the challenge" of superstardom.

Hi, everybody. My name is Karol G . I am from Medellín, Colombia. This is my first time at the Grammys, and this is my first time holding my own Grammy.”

Trending on Billboard

Karol is also the first Latina (and still one of only a few women) to headline a global stadium tour and the highest-grossing Latin touring artist of 2023 by far: According to Billboard Boxscore, she grossed $155.3 million and sold 925,000 tickets from 20 shows, placing at No. 11 on Billboard ’s all-genre year-end Top Tours chart. The only women who fared better on the list were Beyoncé and P!nk, who played 55 and 37 shows, respectively. (Taylor Swift did not report her 2023 touring numbers.)

And yet the artist born Carolina Giraldo still feels she has something to prove. “I’m certain many people still don’t know me and don’t know what I’ve done,” she says. So at the Grammys, “I wanted to make it clear, because I have so many projects planned, that I want them to know I’m working to accomplish far bigger things.”

NewJeans Explain Their ‘Surreal’ Success Smashing Expectations For Women in K-Pop

Karol’s journey to the top of the charts has been slow and steady over the past decade. But in 2022, it accelerated (and went beyond language barriers) with her $trip Love U.S. arena tour, which grossed $72.2 million and sold 424,000 tickets. That helped send Mañana Será Bonito to a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 in February 2023, which, in turn, led to her first stadium tour and the release of a second album, Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season) , which debuted at No. 3 in August.

Since the very beginning of 2024, Karol says she has “literally made music every day,” working with collaborators including longtime go-to producer Ovy on the Drums, who often meets up with her on the road and will be traveling with her during the Latin American leg of her tour. That kicked off Feb. 8 with the first of three sold-out dates at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca (80,000 seats per night, according to promoter OCESA). Karol will play 24 stadium dates in Latin America (most were already sold out at press time) before moving on to 16 arenas and stadiums in Europe, including three dates at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid.

“The fact that she headlined predominantly theaters in 2021, then arenas in 2022, then jumped to stadiums in 2023 is unprecedented for any genre,” Jbeau Lewis, Karol’s touring agent and partner at UTA, told Billboard last year. “It’s easy to talk about Karol as a leader in Latin music, but based on the success she has had, especially this year, she should be spoken about in the same breath as Taylor or Beyoncé.”

To prepare, she took some time off over the winter holidays — an effort toward “working enormously on my mental state, black belt level,” she says with a laugh. “I’m very clear about my plans, my vision of the future and the order in which I want to release [music] and express myself.”

For a Colombian who grew up in Medellín in the aftermath of cartel leader Pablo Escobar’s death, when the country was consumed by drug warfare, that sense of responsibility is especially personal and profound. “My father always told us: ‘We have an obligation to give back — not what’s left over but what’s right,’ ” she says. That idea inspired her in 2021 to launch the Con Cora foundation, which supports women in vulnerable situations through actions in education and the arts.

“When I take the stage in a stadium, one of the reasons I cry is because I know one day this will all be over; I’ll be home remembering the time I was No. 1,” she says. “That’s life. But what I will have is a school I built, or a project we launched [through the foundation]. Today, and in 10 years and in 50 years, lives will change thanks to something we built.”

In the meantime, even as she tours, Karol is putting out singles and remains “very open to experimenting with new sounds,” as is clear on “Contigo,” her recently released song with Tiësto. “I’m feeling very proud because I’m working. I’m really rising to the challenge, and I have to push forward, push forward,” she says. “I may be a very important Latin artist, but I still have the whole world ahead of me.”

This story will appear in the March 2, 2024, issue of Billboard.

In a statement, Schmidt said, “Music lends so much heart and excitement to the ‘Barbie’ film; between the stunning and clever orchestral score and the upbeat iconic pop soundtrack, music is carrying us through the story."

In addition to experiencing the film unlike ever before, Schmidt said, Barbie The Movie: In Concert audiences "will have the privilege of watching some of the world’s best musicians come together and do what they do best.”

Schmidt added that she’s been inspired by Mattel’s “genuine commitment” to everything this film stands for.

“I am particularly excited to be partnering with Mattel,” she said, “as I have long been inspired by Barbie’s purpose statement: ‘to inspire the limitless potential in every girl.’ It couldn’t be more aligned to have an all-women orchestra performing this film, bringing its message to life onstage.’”

Furthering that mission, Barbie The Movie: In Concert will include a touring road crew consisting of a veteran lineup of all-women technical and production professionals.

best movies streaming march 2024

The summer movie season is still two months away, but it’s about to be a blockbuster month on streaming platforms. From holiday tentpoles to major Oscar contenders and the highest-grossing concert film off all time, streaming platforms are delivering the goods and then some this month.

Top of mind for many Disney+ subscribers in March will be the arrival of “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” which is making its streaming debut with a special “Taylor’s Version” that includes five songs not included in previous releases of the concert film. Swifties will finally get the chance to see the pop star sing “Cardigan” and more on “The Eras Tour.”

Elsewhere, Hulu is adding a pair of awards favorites as Oscar season finally comes to an end with the Academy Awards on Sunday, March 10. Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos’ acclaimed “Poor Things” has 11 Oscar nominations and starts streaming March 7, followed by the French hit “Anatomy of a Fall” (five Oscar nominations, including best picture and best director) streaming Mach 22.

There’s also “Wonka,” “Napoleon” and more coming to streaming after making millions at the worldwide box office. See the full rundown below of big new movies streaming in March.

Poor Things (March 7 on Hulu)

POOR THINGS, Emma Stone, 2023. ph: Yorgos Lanthimos / © Searchlight Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection

Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” has crossed $100 million worldwide to become his highest-grossing movie so far and only the second arthouse release to hit that milestone since the COVID pandemic. Best picture winner “Everything Everywhere All at Once” was the first. “Poor Things” is also nominated for 11 Oscars, including best picture. Emma Stone won best actress honors at the Critic’s Choice Awards and the BAFTRA Film Awards. Variety film critic Peter Debruge named “Poor Things” the best movie of 2023 , writing: “Yorgos Lanthimos assembles a demented, Buñuelian satire of gender roles that’s part ‘Pygmalion,’ part ‘Lolita,’ and otherwise totally distinct from anything else on the scene. While ‘Barbie’ poked fun at the patriarchy, born-again Bella upends it.”

Anatomy of a Fall (March 22 on Hulu)

Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” arrives on Hulu this month shortly after the Oscars, where it’s nominated for five awards, including best picture. The movie won the Palme d’Or at Cannes last year and stars Sandra Huller as a woman accused of killing her husband. Variety film critic Owen Gleiberman named “Anatomy of a Fall” the second best film of 2023 , writing: “Triet stages an explosive courtroom drama that turns into ‘Scenes from a Marriage’ as staged by a 21st-century Hitchcock. ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ tells the story of this marriage — but more to the point it tells a story of women and men in our time, when the shifting power dynamics have increased women’s equality, leaving certain men feeling as if that assertion of justice were somehow a fatal assault.”

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version) (March 15 on Disney+)

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour

After earning $261 million at the worldwide box office to become the highest-grossing concert film in history, Taylor Swift brings her “The Eras Tour” movie exclusively to Disney+ this month for its streaming debut. The release will be an extended edition, also known as “Taylor’s Version,” and will include five songs not in previous versions of the film, including her “Folklore” hit “Cardigan.” Disney is reportedly paying more than $75 million to the singer-songwriter-entrepreneur to exclusively stream “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)” on Disney+ worldwide. Disney allegedly outbid Netflix and Universal Pictures (which handled digital/VOD distribution for the film) for the streaming rights.

Wonka (March 8 on Max)

wonka

Timothée Chalamet showed his box office chops with Warner Bros.’ “Wonka,” which has earned a mighty $617 million and counting at the worldwide box office since launching in theaters last Christmas. The film makes its streaming debut on Max this month. Chalamet plays a younger version of Willy Wonka, as he battles fellow chocolatiers to make a name for himself in the world of magical candy. From Variety’s review: “‘Wonka’ is a fun, rousing, impeccably staged, jaw-droppingly old-fashioned musical prequel to the legendary Roald Dahl tale with Timothée Chalamet playing the title character as the beaming soul of effervescent goodness.”

Napoleon (March 1 on Apple TV+)

Ridley Scott and Joaquin Phoenix teamed back up together years after “Gladiator” for “Napoleon,” a historical epic that pulled in a decent $220 million at the worldwide box office last year and now makes its streaming debut this month on Apple TV+. The film stars Phoenix as the infamous French emperor and Vanessa Kirby as his wife, Joséphine de Beauharnais. “Both Scott and Phoenix embrace a touch of camp, portraying the enigma that was Napoleon as a petulant brat-cum-military genius: someone who knew how to get his way on the battlefield, but resorted to food fights at home,” reads Variety’s review. “As written by David Scarpa, ‘Napoleon’ tilts much of the attention away from its title character and toward the man’s wife, Josephine de Beauharnais.”

Dream Scenario (March 15 on Max)

After Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla” arrived on streaming last month, A24 and Max continue their new partnership with the arrival of Kristoffer Borgli’s “Dream Scenario” on Max this month. Nicolas Cage plays a mild-mannered professor whose life is completely upended when he starts showing up in people’s dreams around the world. The phenomenon turns him into an overnight celebrity in ways both advantageous and destructive. Variety’s Peter Debruge  praised Cage  for delivering one of his best performances ever in “Dream Scenario,” adding the film is a “brilliant look at viral celebrity.”

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (Max)

Warner Bros.’ “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” technically started streaming exclusively on Max on Feb. 27, but we’re including it here as March will be its first entire month of streaming availability. The comic book tentpole underperformed at the box office with $433 million worldwide, a huge decrease from the $1 billion the original “Aquaman” grossed several years ago. Jason Momoa is back for the sequel as Aquaman teams up with his brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) to defeat a new threat to the ocean kingdoms. From Variety’s review : “Momoa’s bro superhero unites with his treacherous half-brother to save the world in a DC adventure that’s charged and grandly scaled yet rote.”

Ricky Stanicky (March 7)

Peter Farrelly directs the Amazon Prime Video original comedy movie “Ricky Stanicky,” starring Zac Efron, Andrew Santino and Jermaine Fowler as three best friends who invent a fake person, Ricky Stanicky, to help them get out of personal situations with their families and loved ones. When the friends are forced to bring the fake Ricky to life, they hire a washed-up actor (John Cena) to assume the role. Farrelly and Efron last collaborated on “The Greatest Beer Run Ever.”

Road House (March 21 on Prime Video)

ROAD HOUSE, Jake Gyllenhaal, 2024. ph: Laura Radford /© Amazon Prime Video / Courtesy Everett Collection

Patrick Swayze’s 1989 cult classic “Road House” gets a modern facelift courtesy of director Doug Liman and star Jake Gyllenhaal, who team up for a “Road House” remake that features the actor as a former UFC fighter struggling to make ends meet. After the owner of a Florida Keys road house finds him sleeping in his car, Gyllenhaal’s Elwood Dalton becomes a bouncer and finds himself roped into a war of outlaws and bikers (including one played by mixed martial artist Conor McGregor, making his acting debut). He’s also forced to go up against a developer determined to build a lavish resort for “rich assholes” and end the road house for good.

Trolls Band Together (March 15 on Peacock)

The third movie in the “Trolls” franchise grossed just over $200 million worldwide last fall and now arrives exclusively on Peacock, where it will surely be one of the top choices for families this month. Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake return to voice Poppy and Branch in a story about Branch reconnecting with his boy band past. Sound familiar? From Variety’s review: “The third installment in DreamWorks’s fizzy animated franchise hasn’t outlived its shelf life, as it reunites an NSYNC-like group (and NSYNC itself) for self-deprecating fun.”

Spaceman (March 1 on Netflix)

Adam Sandler is back this month with another Netflix original, and it marks the comedian’s most arthouse-driven entry yet on the streaming platform. “Spaceman” is adapted from Jaroslav Kalfař’s 2017 novel “Spaceman of Bohemia” and stars Sandler as an astronaut living in isolation whose forced down memory lane as he tries to get back to Earth and reunite with his wife (Carey Mulligan). Sandler’s character finds a talking spider (Paul Dano) from the beginning of time hiding in the bowels of his ship, and the two work together to process where life went wrong. “Spaceman” is directed by Johan Renck, best known for his work on HBO’s Emmy-winning miniseries “Chernobyl.”

Godzilla (March 1 on Netflix)

GODZILLA, from left: Bryan Cranston, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 2014. ph: Kimberley French/©Warner Bros./courtesy Everett Collection

Netflix is bringing Gareth Edwards’ 2014 “Godzilla” reboot to streaming at an opportune time. Not only is the rampaging kaiju back in the spotlight thanks to the blockbuster success of “Godzilla Minus One,” but Edwards’ own latest movie “The Creator” earned buzz last fall and is currently nominated alongside “Minus One” for the Oscar for visual effects. In Edwards’ 2014 film, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are a father and son forced to put an end to Godzilla’s reign of destruction. From Variety’s review: “Godzilla movies, like wrestling matches, are ultimately judged by the quality of the mayhem, and Edwards excels at blowing things up.”

Damsel (March 8 on Netflix)

DAMSEL, Millie Bobby Brown, 2024. ph: John Wilson / © Netflix / Courtesy Everett Collection

Millie Bobby Brown successfully used her “Stranger Things” fame to launch a Netflix movie franchise with “Enola Holmes.” Can the magic strike twice? She’s front and center for the streamer’s fantasy film “Damsel,” playing a princess whose happily ever after is disrupted when her prince sacrifices her to a dragon. “She’s a damsel who doesn’t need to be saved,” Brown told Netflix. “She saves herself in many ways. It subverts what you expect: You’re expecting the prince to turn around and save her, and… no. Don’t wait for the prince.”

“What I really loved in the script from Dan Mazeau was embracing the idea of a fantasy adventure and a princess and dragon story, but taking it into a place [where] it’s completely upside down,” director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo added. “It was a very intense journey that I was so excited to design and to develop. At the core, this is such a beautiful story about a young woman becoming a strong, independent, and empowered adult. Elodie doesn’t have any kind of support. It’s a real survival experience.”

Irish Wish (March 15 on Netflix)

IRISH WISH, Lindsay Lohan, 2024. © ph: Patrick Redmond /© Netflix /Courtesy Everett Collection

“Irish Wish” marks Lindsay Lohan’s second Netflix original romantic-comedy following her 2022 holiday movie “Falling for Christmas.” Netflix’s official synopsis reads: “When the love of her life gets engaged to her best friend, Maddie (Lohan) puts her feelings aside to be a bridesmaid at their wedding in Ireland. Days before the pair are set to marry, Maddie makes a spontaneous wish for true love, only to wake up as the bride-to-be. But as her dream gets closer to coming true, Maddie realizes that her real soulmate is someone else entirely.” Filmed on location in Wicklow, Ireland, “Irish Wish” promises plenty of scenic vistas to serve as the backdrop for Lohan’s latest rom-com.

Bodies Bodies Bodies (March 20 on Netflix)

A24’s horror hit and Gen Z satire “Bodies Bodies Bodies” finally arrives on Netflix this month. The ensemble cast includes Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Myha’la, Chase Sui Wonders, Rachel Sennott, Lee Pace and Pete Davidson. From Variety’s review: “The director, Halina Reijn, works in what you might call the in-your-face school of twenty-something head-game melodrama…The characters get in each other’s faces, and the movie gets in our face; much of it is shot in close-up, in the semi-darkness (at one point a generator gives out), with the storm raging, so that the audience feels like it’s part of the pressure cooker. Yet ‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ also has a fast and witty aggro tone.”

Morbius (March 1 on Disney+)

MORBIUS, Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, 2022. © Sony Pictures Releasing / © Marvel Entertainment / Courtesy Everett Collection

Love him or hate him, Jared Leto’s Morbius is arriving on Disney+ this month where it will join other Sony-backed comic book movies like “The Amazing Spider-Man” movies and Tom Hardy’s “Venom” films. From Variety’s review : “It’s close to being a generic Marvel movie, right down to Leto’s one-note scientist-turned-vampire… ‘Morbius’ is a movie in which it’s clear that no one ever sent the script back for a rewrite with the instructions, ‘Please add a script.’ As in: Add spice, add dialogue, add something so that the movie plays like more than a barely colored-in diagram.”

Madu (March 29 on Disney+)

Madu

Disney+ is the exclusive home to stream “Madu” this month. The documentary hails from filmmakers Matt Ogens and Kachi Benson and takes a look at the young ballet dancer Anthony Madu, a Nigerian teen who went viral around the world in 2020 after posting a 44-second ballet video online.

Disney’s synopsis reads: “‘Madu’ follows 12-year-old Anthony Madu as he leaves his family and community in Nigeria to study at one of the most prestigious ballet schools in the world in England. Having never left his home outside of Lagos, Anthony finds himself thrust into a new world where his wildest dreams are suddenly within reach. His courageous journey is a story of extraordinary obstacles as he searches for belonging and acceptance, a family far away, and unexpected challenges that could impact his future.”

Blade Runner 2049 (March 1 on Hulu)

BLADE RUNNER 2049, from left: Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, 2017. ph: Stephen Vaughan /© Warner Bros. /Courtesy Everett Collection

“Whereas the original ‘Blade Runner’ was (eventually) embraced for its unrealized potential, its sequel ranks as one of the great science-fiction films of all time,” Variety’s Peter Debruge wrote in his rave review of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi masterpiece “Blade Runner 2049,” which returns to Netflix this month just as Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” opens in movie theaters worldwide.

“2049” didn’t even cross the $100 million in the U.S., a death knell for a studio-backed tentpole, and it reportedly lost Alcon Entertainment up to $80 million. Regardless, the film won Oscars for cinematography and visual effects and remains a science-fiction touchstone of the 2010s. As Debruge raves, “Villeneuve earns every second of his 2 hours and 44 minute running time, delivering a visually breathtaking, long-fuse action movie whose unconventional thrills could be described as many things — from tantalizing to tedious — but never artificially intelligent.”

Harry Potter Series (March 1 on Peacock)

HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERERS STONE, Daniel Radcliffe, 2001, ©Warner Bros./courtesy Everett Collection

The “Harry Potter” franchise is back on Peacock this month. All eight movies are now streaming: ” Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone Harry Potter, ” “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2.”

Stormy (March 18 on Peacock)

Stormy

Peacock is hoping to bring in viewers with the launch of its original documentary on Stormy Daniels, the porn star who made national headlines when it was revealed that Trump lawyer Michael Cohen paid her $130,000 to keep quiet about her alleged affair with the former president. “Stormy” is directed and produced by Emmy-nominated helmer Sarah Gibson, best known for her work on documentary films and series including Netflix’s “Orgasm Inc: The Story of OneTaste,” which she co-directed, and “Britney vs. Spears,” which she produced.

“From reporters to lawyers to politicians, many have attempted to define Stormy Daniels,” the doc’s official description reads. “‘Stormy’ tells the unvarnished truth about an unlikely American icon — this time, in her own words.”

Five Nights at Freddy’s (March 5 on Prime Video)

FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S, from left: Bonnie (Jade Kindar-Martin), Freddy Fazbear (Kevin Foster), Chica (Jess Weiss), 2023. ph: Patti Perret / © Universal Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection

It may not have been a critical favorite, but Universal and Blumhouse’s horror movie “Five Nights at Freddy’s” was the unexpected blockbuster of fall 2023 with $137 million at the domestic box office and nearly $300 million on a $20 million production budget. Never underestimate the power of a popular video game. After making its streaming debut on Peacock last year at the same time it launched in theaters, “Freddy’s” arrives this month on Prime Video at no extra cost to subscribers.

The world’s best bourbon—according to the 2023 barleycorn awards.

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof B523

Elijah Craig is a popular label of straight bourbon produced at the legendary Heaven Hill distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. At quick glance, liquids under the lineup might not seem like they hold the hallmarks of cult classic; many examples tend to be readily available, at an accessible price point, all crafted by one of the biggest names in the game.

Nevertheless, when it comes to the Barrel Proof offerings from the series, this is bourbon that makes the geeks go gaga. Aside from being dang tasty whiskey, it’s also released only three times a year—in relatively limited batches. One of those batches in particular, B523, is a certified stunner. And it now boasts the enviable hardware to prove it.

At the end of last year, some of the most renowned palates in the booze business convened in a remote, unclassified location (probably somewhere in a virtual setting) under the banner of the biannual Barleycorn Awards. Only this time was different, because the judges were pitting the best of the best from throughout the year against one another—head-to-head. When it came to best bourbon on shelves as of 2023, they landed on our trusty friend Elijah Craig Barrel Proof B523.

This 124.2-proof powerhouse spent an impressive 11 years and 5 months in a Bluegrass State warehouse. During that time it amassed an almost molasses-like robustness. Its resounding sweetness isn’t all that surprising when you consider the immutable mashbill of the brand: 78% corn, 12% malted barley, 10% rye.

And yet this is hardly a one-note whiskey. You don’t win over seasoned palates that way. As the Barleycorn judges expressed so eloquently when bestowing the top honor upon the B523 bottling:

“Leathery and mature with oak and rancio aromas mingling with roasted nuts and brown sugar. The full-bodied, palate rocks coffee bean, leather, tea leaf, and deep spices. Fantastic whiskey.”

When it was initially released in late spring of 2023, this batch hit shelves at an entirely reasonable price of $70. It’s not so outlandish to expect you can still find it for around that much . But even if you can’t, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is guaranteed to come out three times every year, as it has since 2013. And B523, while clearly exceptional, isn’t a complete outlier. Indeed, to win the top accolade at Barleycorn in 2023, it beat out another batch of Barrel Proof: C923.

So, if you consider yourself a fan of quality Kentucky bourbon and you don’t already have a considerable amount of Elijah Craig in your collection, what are you waiting for?
