WAIT FOR IT !!!........... LIL WAYNE cancelled just hours before the show (rolling my eyes) so needless to say happy we showed up at 9pm because instead of lil wayne the fans were entertained by music mashups of rock and rap (crappy mix ups by the way) and music by the backstreet boys or n sync not sure which boy band it was but i was super annoyed when i heard the near sold out crowd singing along of "i want it that way" really crappy song but all these idiots were singing along like it was 6th grade but on to the positive blink 182 put on a great set for a whole 60 minutes yep 1 hour started at 9:30 was done by 10:30 great set pyro, smoke, cool video stage set up NO TOM DELONGE some new guy not his fault he played great but it wasnt teb same he didnt really sound like TOM so it was like blink 182 karaoke for some of the songs and the short set time I mean shit lil wayne doesnt show these guys could have saved the day and played longer but in typical rock star fashion they charged full price for tickets delivered half of a show and a short set disapointed much ? YEAH I WAS hate to say it but I mean it wasnt a 20 dollar ticket here tickets were not cheap but the amount of entertainment vs the amount paid for the ticket was not EQUAL felt pretty ripped off as a whole save your money this go round NOT WORTH THE CASH plus we drove 4 hours to go to this show so a few hundred dollars later we got and hour of a headliner entertainment hell KISS are 70 years old and played for 2 and a half hours the tickets were pricey but hell they were showmen and lots of fire, pyro, smoke, fireworks, ect stunts elevating risers ect so you tell me if its worth it to go see 40 year old entitled punks vs 70 year old vets who are doing a cash grab no doubt but are still delivering an experirience

Show exceeded expectations and was THRILLED we didn't have to listen to Lil Wayne - bonus. Thanks to St. Louis for helping to move him on his way to the next venue. Loved hearing Enema of the State in its entirety. Wish they had included Always but the other added songs were great as well. I thought Matt sounded great and thoroughly enjoyed a couple of the songs from California and NINE. Sad no encore but had a total blast singing along and dancing. Super charged stage show and Travis' drum solo was amazing but never long enough for me! (I'm sure plenty long for him - what a work out!) Neck Deep also put on a great performance. They are a GREAT opening act for Bink. Thanks for the show - and long lasting memories.

Blink 182 has been my favorite band as a kid back in ‘96 when I first heard of them and will always be. I finally got to see them live for the first tine ever in 2016, 20 years later because they came close to my hometown in Greenville, SC. Then about 3 months later to my actual hometown in Charleston, SC. I was close to the middle up front and had the time of my life. I thank the whole band for making one person’s dream come true just to see you live. I’ve always wanted to meet Mark and Travis!! I was so like it’s cool when Mark tried to throw me a pick but it landed short and he apologized and he Ent on with the show. But my heart filled up with joy when, in my opinion, the greatest drummer in the whole universe, Travis Barker!!!!, acknowledged me when I gave him a thumbs up. Wish I could meet and talk to then!! A dream for a lifetime. Blink 182 you will always be number 1 to me and hold a special place in my heart as you do to millions of fans!! Love you all and can’t wait for the bext album!! Including Mark’s new band aka The Side Piece. Mark if you ever read this’ please don’t take offense to the comment. Blink 4 Life!! Peace...

Blink-182 ’s reunion is still going strong.

On Monday, the pop-punk icons announced they’re going on a massive 2024 North American tour. The band featuring Mark Hoppus , Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker will play stadiums and arenas in support of their new album One More Time , which arrived on Friday and is the band’s first release with their iconic lineup since 2011.

The One More Time Tour features 30 dates across the U.S. and Canada in summer 2024. The alternative rockers will kick off their shows in Orlando on June 20 and perform in major cities and venues such as Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, New York City’s Citi Field, Boston’s Fenway Park, among others, before wrapping up in Toronto on Aug. 15. In their hometown of San Diego, the trio will take the stage at Petco Park stadium.

The “All the Small Things” group has recruited fellow ‘00s pop-punk hitmakers Pierce the Veil as their special guest on the road. On select dates, they'll also be joined by post-hardcore group Alexisonfire .

Blink-182’s newly announced tour will be their first time taking One More Time on the road across North America. The new record came just over one year after the band announced they were getting back together with the core trio for the first time since vocalist/guitarist DeLonge, 47, exited the group in 2015 and was replaced by Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba for a period.

Their 2024 North American concerts will follow their international dates in New Zealand, Australia and Latin America early next year.

Blink-182 singer/bassist Mark Hoppus (L) and singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge perform in 2009. The band confirmed the classic lineup would once again reunite.

Blink-182, San Diego's kings of pop-punk, are getting the band back together.

Tom DeLonge is rejoining bandmates Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker for the first time in seven years. The band announced via their web site and social media that they would be embarking on a world tour starting in March 2023 are are releasing a new song, "Edging," on Friday, with a new album to follow.

DeLonge has quit the band twice and now returned twice. For the last seven years, Matt Skiba of the band Alkaline Trio has taken his place.

The band formed in 1992, playing all over San Diego in YMCAs, basements and VFW halls before releasing their first record Cheshire Cat in 1995 and catching the eye of major record labels. In 1997, their album Dude Ranch saw Blink-182 receive major radio play for the song "Dammit."

The original lineup featured Scott Raynor on drums, Mark Hoppus on bass and Tom DeLonge on guitar, before Scott Raynor was fired in 1998 and replaced with Travis Barker. This cemented the lineup for the band that would then record 1999's Enema of the State, which became a gigantic commercial success, selling over 15 million records.

The band was known for their sense of humor and music videos that aired regularly on MTV. In 2001 they released Take Off Your Pants and Jacket , which went on to be their second highest-selling record. In 2003 they released a self-titled album featuring a more mature sound.

The Legacy Of 'Adam's Song,' An Anthem To Darkness, Loss — And Recovery

American Anthem

The legacy of 'adam's song,' an anthem to darkness, loss — and recovery.

Tensions within the band led to DeLonge leaving in 2005 and forming the group Angels and Airwaves, while Hoppus and Barker formed their own group +44.

In 2008, the band would reunite again after Barker was nearly killed in a plane crash that took the life of four people and critically injured Adam Goldstein, known as "DJ AM."

After Barker healed from injuries, Blink-182 toured again and released the 2011 record Neighborhoods . The band stayed together for seven more years before DeLonge parted the band again, citing creative differences.

In the intervening years, DeLonge became involved in funding investigations of UFOs .

With Skiba on guitar, the band released the albums California in 2016 and Nine in 2019.

In June 2021, Mark Hoppus confirmed that he had received a cancer diagnosis and had been undergoing treatment.

At the end of the year, Hoppus declared he was cancer-free. In an interview with People , Hoppus said the trio had spent some time together before his chemotherapy began, and they were in "a really great place right now." The bassist added: "I keep writing music, and I'm open to whatever the next phase of Blink is ... I'm hopeful for the future. I'm just damn glad to be here."

Blink-182 Can’t Stop Touring: Band Details Summer 2024 Shows

By Jon Blistein

Jon Blistein

Blink-182 will keep the big reunion party going into next year, announcing another massive North American tour for summer 2024.

The run will kick off June 20 at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, with dates scheduled through Aug. 15 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. Blink-182 will primarily play arenas during the run, though there will be a few special stadium gigs in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Toronto, and the band’s hometown of San Diego. Pierce the Veil will provide support throughout the tour, while Alexisonfire will join the bill just for the final gig in Toronto.

Tickets for all shows will go on sale Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. local time. Full info is available on Blink-182’s website .

Along with the reunion tour, Blink-182 released a new album, One More Time , last Friday, Oct. 20. The LP marks the first from Hoppus, DeLonge, and Barker since 2011’s Neighborhoods . After DeLonge left the group in 2015, he was replaced by Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba, who appeared on two albums, 2016’s California and 2019’s Nine .

In a recent interview with Zane Lowe , Hoppus and DeLonge opened up about their acrimonious 2015 splits with both admitting they weren’t sure they’d ever play together again. That changed after Hoppus was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 — a traumatic but clarifying event not unlike the 2008 plane crash that nearly killed Barker.

Blink-182 announce new tour dates

The "all the small things" band is hitting the road in celebration of their new album, one more time....

Blink-182

Blink-182 spent much of their recent album announcement video getting emotional about how much they love touring together, and it’s clear that the guys weren’t lying. One day after wrapping the 2023 leg of their ongoing reunion tour , the band—Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker—announced a whole new list of dates in support of their newly released album ONE MORE TIME... on Instagram .

While the name might be a little confusing, the band hasn’t said anything to imply that they’d be touring only one more time. Phew! “Coming out with these words ‘One More Time,’ it’s like, this is the last time we’re gonna fuck this up,” DeLonge previously said of the album, which sees the band’s iconic lineup in the studio together for the first time in almost a decade.

Blink-182 Essentials: 15 Songs That Prove They're Rock's Most Serious Unserious Band

As the classic blink-182 lineup hits the road for their massive world tour, get ready to rock out with a mix of iconic blink hits and hard-hitting deep cuts.

It's been a minute since we've seen the classic blink-182 lineup of Mark Hoppus , Travis Barker , and Tom DeLonge together — eight years, to be exact. While the band has gone through some hardships and personnel changes during that time, their music has remained ubiquitous and engrained in today's music landscape.

With new single "Edging" in tow, blink-182 ushered in the latest era of the group — one that kicks into full gear on May 4, when their world tour launches in St. Paul, Minn. After spending the summer rocking arenas throughout the US and Canada, they'll hit Europe in the fall and resume in Australia, New Zealand, Peru and Mexico in 2024.

The trio teased a hit-filled set list with two surprise sets at Coachella , where they were welcomed as heroes. The performances showed that blink-182 still sound (and look) like those punk-rock kids who went streaking in the streets of LA in their music videos — and while they may be a little older, they're still not ready to act their age.

As the beloved rock group begin their latest tour together, GRAMMY.com revisits 15 of blink-182's essential tracks.

"Carousel," Chesire Cat (1995)

When blink-182 first started, Hoppus and DeLonge were just kids who bonded over a shared love of punk rock bands like Bad Religion, NOFX, and The Descendants. They played high schools and small clubs throughout San Diego, creating a buzz in the SoCal punk rock scene.

The first album, Chesire Cat, is a bit rough around the edges, but it is undeniably the start of blink as we know them now. Album opener, "Carousel," moves at a frenetic pace of pent-up energy, and it's our first taste for what was to take over the world a little later on. They sound young and spunky, ready to get the party started.

"Dammit," Dude Ranch (1997)

Forget "Smoke on the Water" — for kids learning guitar in the early 2000s, it was the "Dammit" riff they wanted to master. And in the same vein, "Dammit" as a whole was the perfect introduction to blink-182. Everything we know and love about them — the bouncing guitars, the breakneck drums (albeit not recorded by Barker, who didn't join the band until 1998), the juvenile gossip, the singalong chorus — is all there.

In "Dammit" is the blink-182 too-cool-for-school philosophy. They don't want to go out with you anymore? Whatever. Just tell yourself they'll regret it and shrug, "I guess this is growing up."

"Josie," Dude Ranch (1997)

A fan favorite from blink-182's Dude Ranch , "Josie" doesn't waste any space. It's loud and fast, just like the music that shaped the band growing up in SoCal.

Almost like a little cousin to the Ramones' "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker," "Josie" is a punk rock love song hidden behind brash drums and snot-nosed guitars, about a girl who is out of their league — who laughs at their dumb jokes, drives them when they're too drunk, and doesn't get jealous when they hang with the guys. With her they know that everything is gonna be fine. Who doesn't want a relationship like that?

"What's My Age Again?," Enema of the State (1999)

Mark Hoppus is 51, and both Travis Barker and Tom DeLonge are 47. So as DeLonge's guitar rang out and the band launched into "What's My Age Again?" at Coachella, it felt more like a protest song — because what is age but a number?

"What's My Age Again?" was the first single released from their pivotal Enema of the State album, and the first official taste of the Hoppus/DeLonge/Barker lineup. It is blink-182's mission statement, an anthem for those who never want to grow up. After all, as Hoppus sings, "No one should take themselves so seriously, with many years ahead to fall in line."

Every line is quotable, every riff is memorable, and not a moment is wasted. Now that's how you make one catchy pop punk song and win over a generation in the process.

"All the Small Things," Enema of the State (1999)

If "What's My Age Again?" was a reintroduction, "All the Small Things" was the song that made damn sure you'd never forget. Sure, blink-182 may not have invented SoCal pop punk, but they were the first band to bring it to the mainstream, and "All the Small Things" was what made them a household name. It propelled them into superstardom.

Since its initial breakthrough as an MTV mainstay in 1999, the song has become a classic pop-punk party anthem with its sing-along hook and catchy undulating verses. It's a song about nothing and everything at once; it's about letting go and being free from any troubles. Work sucks, they know — so why not just sing "Na-na, na-na, na-na, na-na, na, na"?

"Going Away to College," Enema of the State (1999)

On Enema deep cut "Going Away to College," blink-182 perfectly captured what it's like for a kid heading off on their own for the first time — heading into the unknown, leaving family and friends you grew up with behind.

"I haven't been this scared in a long time," DeLonge admits in the chorus, one of blink-182's best, most endearing in their catalog. The song is largely an adorably clumsy valentine to a high school sweetheart, and the words Hoppus sings read like a message hastily scribbled on a note in a locker: "This world's an ugly place, but you're so beautiful to me."

"Adam's Song," Enema of the State (1999)

Van Halen were once challenged to write a song other than hooking up with women or partying, so David Lee Roth wrote "Panama" about a car. In a similar way, blink-182 challenged themselves to write about something a little serious. In comes "Adam's Song," a tune sung from the perspective of a depressed teen thinking about ending his life: "Please tell mom this is not her fault," Hoppus pleads over a subdued, dirge-like guitar.

It's a heavy song that changed the idea of what a blink-182 song should sound like. Though the song was almost left off of Enema , "Adam's Song" ended up becoming one of the more important and cherished singles in the band's discography.

"Man Overboard," The Mark, Tom And Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back!) (2000)

On its surface, "Man Overboard" might seem a bit like a throwaway song as the only studio track on blink-182's 2000 live album, The Mark, Tom, and Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back!) . The band needed a song to help promote the live album, so they turned to a song that didn't make it on the previous year's Enema of the State. Yet, the single is a bright, driving song that's chock full of hooks.

Upon closer look, there is a deeper story of confliction within, and about watching a friend succumb to alcoholism. In many ways, "Man Overboard" served as a sort of predecessor to the more serious content blink-182 would write about the albums that followed it.

"First Date," Take Off Your Pants and Jacket (2001)

First dates spawn a range of emotion — hope in the opportunity, butterflies in your stomach. Who wouldn't want to make that excitement last forever, and ever?

On "First Date," DeLonge sounds downright giddy at the prospect. He's so nervous he really can't eat, dreading the thought of the first kiss because it's a target he's "probably gonna miss." Barker's frenetic drumming on the track only heightens the feeling of anticipation, and the combo is a vivid portrayal of punk-rock romanticism.

One of the things blink-182 always does so well is getting right to the point in their songs. There's no count in, no slow build, no BS. One swift drum roll and we're off to the races. "First Date" is a prime example of this; a thrill ride from the jump.

"Reckless Abandon," Take Off Your Pants and Jacket (2001)

The hardest part about growing up is that you don't know you're in the "good old days" until you leave them. On the driving Take Off Your Pants and Jacket deep cut "Reckless Abandon," Tom DeLonge waxes poetic about all the good times and those crazy memories from those endless summers gone by. Like a pop-punk "Glory Days," DeLonge looks back at those days with rose colored glasses, practically smirking as he sings in the chorus "we left a scar extra large."

"Reckless Abandon" is a fast-paced, rockin' roller coaster, the blueprint for today's blink-influenced rockers like the Menzingers or Japandroids who write similar anthems yearning for those days of youth. Because of its frenzied pace, "Reckless Abandon" has become a mainstay in blink-182's live setlist — one that is sure to get the crowd rip-roaring.

"Stay Together for the Kids," Take Off Your Pants and Jacket (2001)

"Stay Together for the Kids" is blink-182 at their angriest. "It's so pathetic," Hoppus spits in the opening verse, before a wall of guitars blaze through in the chorus, in which DeLonge spitefully yells, "I hope you enjoyed this time, you gave it all away. It's not right."

Like several of blink-182's songs — and rock/pop-punk songs in general — "Stay Together For the Kids" digs into a very painful, yet relatable sentiment. And as blink-182 air their own grievances out in real time, they gave anyone who has also been there something to scream along with.

"Feeling This," blink-182 (2003)

blink-182 was always about Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus. They're the yin and yang at the heart of the band – the McCartney / Lennon of blink-182, if you will. The way they played off each other in their songs and on stage was a major part of blink's appeal.

However, on 2003's self-titled album, it became clear their songwriting was moving in separate directions. That was initially apparent on blink-182 's lead single, "Feeling This," one of blink's raunchier tracks. With DeLonge's snarling verse giving way to Hoppus' melodic chorus, "Feeling This" almost sounds like two separate tracks that shouldn't work together — but with the magic of Hoppus and DeLonge, they most certainly do.

"I Miss You," blink-182 (2003)

While "I Miss You" is inarguably one of blink's most iconic songs, it's seen a resurgence within social media and meme culture, particularly thanks to DeLonge's trademark vocal delivery about the voices inside his yyyyeeaaaaad . So, it can be easy to dismiss the song as a novelty — but you'd be wrong.

"I Miss You" is as sentimental as any classic ballad, and blink play it without an ounce of irony; it's as self-aware as it is self-deprecating, but in the end, it's about being lovesick. It's also the first blink-182 track to be recorded with acoustic instruments, with the band unplugging their guitars and using upright bass and drum brushes, giving the song a haunting, ghostly feel — creating a song so affecting that it remains one of their biggest to date.

"After Midnight," Neighborhoods , (2011)

In 2005, blink-182 announced that they would be going on an indefinite hiatus to pursue other projects outside of the group. A few years later in 2008, two incidents brought the band back together: Longtime collaborator and producer Jerry Finn passed away, and Travis Barker was involved in a near-fatal plane crash. The trio reconciled, and in 2009, they appeared at the 51st Grammy Awards together with the announcement that they would be picking up where they left off and a new album was on the way.

That album, 2011's Neighborhoods, sees the band coping with life's near-misses and unpredictability. While much of the album is composed of old demos and separate ideas, "After Midnight" sounds like the band writing as a cohesive unit again. With Barker's skittery drum beat and the song's soaring chorus, it has a sort of grandeur that was a new look for blink-182, but they wore it well.

"EDGING" (2022)

You didn't think blink-182 grew up yet, did you? The bouncy new single "EDGING" — the first song in over a decade to feature Hoppus/Delonge/Barker together — is proof that blink-182 have clearly not lost their ability to write tight, catchy, sophomoric pop-punk.

Today, blink-182 have become the unlikeliest of elder statesmen, influencing new generations of kids who are creating their own pop punk anthems. But while the blink-182 on "EDGING" may be older, who says you have to get any wiser?

How Andrew Watt Became Rock's Big Producer: His Work With Paul McCartney, Ozzy Osbourne, Pearl Jam, & More

Andrew Watt cut his teeth with pop phenoms, but lately, the 2021 Producer Of The Year winner has been in demand among rockers — from the Rolling Stones and Blink-182 to Elton John.

While in a studio, Andrew Watt bounces off the walls. Just ask Mick Jagger , who once had to gently tell the 33-year-old, "Look, I can deal with this, but when you meet Ronnie and Keith , you have to dial it down a little bit."

Or ask Pearl Jam 's Stone Gossard . "He really got the best out of [drummer] Matt [Cameron] just by being excited — literally jumping up and down and pumping his fist and running around," he tells GRAMMY.com.

As Watt's hot streak has burned on, reams have rightly been written about his ability to take a legacy act, reconnect them with their essence, and put a battery in their back. His efficacy can be seen at Music's Biggest Night: Ozzy Osbourne 's Patient Number 9 won Best Rock Album at the 2023 GRAMMYs . At the last ceremony, the Rolling Stones were nominated for Best Rock Song, for Hackney Diamonds ' opener "Angry."

On Pearl Jam's return to form, Dark Matter , due out April 19. Who was behind the desk? Take a wild guess.

"You want to see them live more than you want to listen to their albums, and they have the ability to look at each other and play and follow each other. I don't like my rock music any other way, as a listener," Watt tells GRAMMY.com. "All my favorite records are made like that — of people speeding up, slowing down, playing longer than they should."

As such, Watt had a lightbulb moment: to not record any demos, and have them write together in the room. "They're all playing different stuff, and it makes up what Pearl Jam is, and singer Eddie [Vedder] rides it like a wave."

If you're more of a pop listener, there's tons of Watt for you — he's worked with Justin Bieber ("Hit the Ground" from Purpose ), Lana Del Rey ("Doin' Time" from Norman F—ing Rockwell ) and much more. Read on for a breakdown of big name rockers who have worked with Andrew Watt.

Pearl Jam / Eddie Vedder

Watt didn't just produce Dark Matter ; he also helmed Vedder's well-received third solo album, Earthling , from 2022. Watt plays guitar in Vedder's live backing band, known as the Earthlings — which also includes Josh Klinghoffer , who replaced John Frusciante in the Red Hot Chili Peppers for a stint.

The Rolling Stones

Dark Matter was a comeback for Pearl Jam, but Hackney Diamonds was really a comeback for the Stones . While it had a hater or two , the overwhelming consensus was that it was the Stones' best album in decades — maybe even since 1978's Some Girls .

"I hope what makes it fresh and modern comes down to the way it's mixed, with focus on low end and making sure the drums are big," Watt, who wore a different Stones shirt every day in the studio, has said about Hackney Diamonds . "But the record is recorded like a Stones album."

Where there are modern rock flourishes on Hackney Diamonds , "There's no click tracks. There's no gridding. There's no computer editing," he continued. "This s— is performed live and it speeds up and slows down. It's made to the f—ing heartbeat connection of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Steve Jordan.

"And Charlie ," Watt added, tipping a hat to Watts, who played on Hackney Diamonds but died before it came out. "When Charlie's on it."

Ever since he first picked up a mic and removed his shirt, the snapping junkyard dog of the Stooges has stayed relevant — as far as indie, alternative and punk music has been concerned.

But aside from bright spots like 2016's Josh Homme -produced Post Pop Depression , his late-career output has felt occasionally indulgent and enervated. The 11 songs on 2023's eclectic Watt-produced Every Loser , on the other hand, slap you in the face in 11 different ways.

"We would jam and make tracks and send them to Iggy, and he would like 'em and write to them or wouldn't like them and we'd do something else," Watt told Billboard . "It was very low pressure. We just kept making music until we felt like we had an album." (And as with Pearl Jam and Vedder's Earthlings band, Watt has rocked out onstage with Pop .

Ozzy Osbourne

You dropped your crown, O Prince of Darkness. When he hooked up with Watt, the original Black Sabbath frontman hadn't released any solo music since 2010's Scream; in 2017, Sabbath finally said goodbye after 49 years and 10 (!) singers.

On 2020's Ordinary Man and 2022's Patient Number 9 , Watt reenergized Ozzy; even when he sounds his age, Ozz sounds resolute, defiant, spitting in the face of the Reaper. (A bittersweet aside: the late Taylor Hawkins appears on Patient Number 9 , which was written and recorded in just four days .)

Yeah, yeah, they're more of a pop -rock band, but they have guitars, bass and drums. (And if you're the type of rock fan who's neutral or hostile to the 5, you shouldn't be; Songs About Jane slaps.)

At any rate, Watt co-produced "Can't Leave You Alone," featuring Juice WRLD , from 2021's Jordi . Critics disparaged the album, but showed Watt's facility straddling the pop and rock worlds.

5 Seconds of Summer

When it comes to Andrew Watt, the Sydney pop-rockers — slightly more on the rock end than Maroon 5 and their ilk — are repeat customers. He produced a number of tracks for 5 Seconds of Summer, which spanned 2018's Youngblood , 2020's Calm and 2022's 5SOS5 .

Regarding the former: Watt has cited Youngblood as one of the defining recording experiences of his life.

"I had started working with 5 Seconds of Summer, and a lot of people looked at them as a boy band, but they're not," Watt told Guitar Player . "They're all incredible musicians. They can all play every instrument. They love rock music. They can harmonize like skyrockets in flight. They just were making the wrong kind of music."

So Watt showed 5 Seconds of Summer a number of mainstays of the rock era, like Tears for Fears and the Police . The rest, as they say, is history.

A year after Britney Spears was unshackled from her highly controversial conservatorship, it was time for a victory lap with the God of Glitter. What resulted was a curious little bauble, which became a megahit: "Hold Me Closer," a spin on "Tiny Dancer," "The One" and "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" that briefly launched Spears back into the stratosphere.

"Britney came in and she knew what she wanted to do," Watt recalled to The L.A. Times . "We sped up the song a little bit and she sang the verses in her falsetto, which harkens back to 'Toxic.' She was having a blast."

Watt has also worked with pop/punk heroes Blink-182 — but not after Tom DeLonge made his grand return. He produced "I Really Wish I Hated You" from 2019's Nine , back when Matt Skiba was in the band.

Where in the rock world will this tender-aged superproducer strike next? Watt knows.

2023 In Review: 10 Trends That Defined Rock Music

Rock acts young and old helped the genre stay alive in 2023. Take a look at 10 of the genre's most prominent trends, from early aughts revivals to long-awaited reunions.

The rock scene may no longer be the dominant force it once was — blink-182 's One More Time... is the only Billboard 200 chart-topper this year to predominantly fall under this category. But 2023 has still been an interesting and eventful period for those who like their guitar music turned up to eleven.

Over the past 12 months, we've had the two biggest groups of the Swinging Sixties returning to the fray in style, a new European invasion, and a wave of blockbuster albums that may well go down as modern classics. And then there's the revivals which will no doubt spark nostalgia in any kids of the 2000s, a resurgence in all-star line-ups, and a residency that could possibly change how we experience live music.

As we gear up for the holiday season, here's a look at 10 trends that defined rock music in 2023.

European Rock Traveled To America

From Lacuna Coil and Gojira to Volbeat and Rammstein , the Billboard charts aren't exactly strangers to European rock. But 2023 was the year when the continent appeared to band together for a mini invasion. Italian quartet Måneskin continued their remarkable journey from Eurovision Song Contest winners to bona fide rock gods with a Best New Artist nod at the 2023 GRAMMYs, a top 20 placing on the Billboard 200 albums chart for third album Rush! , and a Best Rock Video win at the MTV VMAs.

Masked metalers Ghost scored a fourth consecutive Top 10 entry on the Billboard 200 with covers EP Phantomime, also landing a Best Metal Performance GRAMMY nomination for its cover of Iron Maiden 's "Phantom of the Opera," (alongside Disturbed 's "Bad Man," Metallica 's "72 Seasons," Slipknot 's "Hive Mind," and Spiritbox's "Jaded"). While fellow Swedes Avatar bagged their first Mainstream Rock No. 1 with "The Dirt I'm Buried In," a highly melodic meditation on mortality which combines funky post-punk with freewheeling guitar solos that sound like they've escaped from 1980s Sunset Strip.

Age Proved To Be Nothing But A Number

The theory that rock and roll is a young man's game was blown apart in 2023. Fronted by 80-year-old Mick Jagger , The Rolling Stones reached No.3 on the Billboard 200 thanks to arguably their finest album in 40 years, Hackney Diamonds , with lead single "Angry" also picking up a Best Rock Song GRAMMY nod alongside Olivia Rodrigo 's "aallad of a homeschooled girl," Queens of the Stone Age 's "Emotion Sickness," Boygenius' "Not Strong Enough," and Foo Fighters ' "Rescued." (The latter two will also battle it out with Arctic Monkeys ' "Sculpture of Anything Goes," Black Pumas ' "More than a Love Song," and Metallica's "Lux Aeterna" for Best Rock Performance.)

The eternally shirtless Iggy Pop , a relative spring chicken at 76, delivered a late-career classic, too, with the star-studded Every Loser . And Bruce Springsteen , KISS , and Paul McCartney all proved they weren't ready for the slippers and cocoa life yet by embarking on lengthy world tours.

Death Was No Barrier To Hits

Jimmy Buffett sadly headed for that tropical paradise in the sky this year. But having already recorded 32nd studio effort, Equal Strain on All Parts , the margarita obsessive was able to posthumously score his first new entry on the Billboard Rock Chart since 1982's "It's Midnight And I'm Not Famous Yet."

But he isn't the only artist to have recently achieved success from beyond the grave. Linkin Park reached the U.S. Top 40 with "Lost," a track recorded for 2003 sophomore Meteora , but which only saw the light of day six years after frontman Chester Bennington 's passing.

Perhaps most unexpectedly of all, The Beatles topped the U.K. charts for the first time since 1969 thanks to " Now and Then ," a psychedelic tear-jerker in which surviving members McCartney and Ringo Starr brought previously unheard recordings from George Harrison and John Lennon back to life.

The Giants Stayed Giant

Foo Fighters also overcame the death of a core member on what many rock fans would consider this year's most eagerly awaited album. Drummer Taylor Hawkins , who passed away in early 2022, doesn't feature on the poignant but vibrant But Here We Are . Yet the two-time GRAMMY nominated LP still proved to be a fitting tribute as well as an encouraging sign that Dave Grohl and co. can extend their legacy:lead single "Rescued" became their 12th number one on Billboard's Main Rock Chart .

The Best Rock Album category for the 2024 GRAMMYs proves that veterans were alive and mighty in 2023. Along with the Foos' latest LP, the nominees include another Grohl-affiliated band,, Queens of the Stone Age's first album in six years, In Times New Roman... , Paramore 's This Is Why , Metallica's 72 Seasons and Greta Van Fleet 's Starcatcher .. (Metallica's 72 Seasons also struck gold with its singles, three of which landed at No. 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart, where lead single "Lux Æterna" spent 11 consecutive weeks on top.)

Of course, we also have to give a shout-out to U2 . Not for March's Songs of Surrender album (for which they re-recorded 40 of their biggest and best tracks), but for the immersive, eye-popping Las Vegas residency at The Sphere which potentially reinvented the future of live music.

The Rock Supergroup Continued To Thrive

2023 spawned several new rock supergroups including Mantra of the Cosmos (Shaun Ryder, Zak Starkey and Andy Bell), Lol Tolhurst x Budgie x Jacknife Lee , and Better Lovers (various members of The Dillinger Escape Plan and Every Time I Die). But it was an already established all-star line-up that took the GRAMMY nominations by storm.

Consisting of Phoebe Bridgers , Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker , boygenius bagged a remarkable seven nods at the 2024 ceremony. Throw in a well-received headline set at Coachella, U.S. Top 50 follow-up EP, and even a "Saturday Night Live" showing alongside Timothée Chalamet, and the trio couldn't have asked for a better way to continue what they started together in 2018.

The Early 2000s Enjoyed A Revival

The cyclical nature of the music industry meant that the era of choppy bangs and super-skinny jeans was always going to come back into fashion. And following throwbacks from the likes of Olivia Rodrigo and Willow , the original punk-pop brigade returned this year to prove they could still mosh with the best of them.

Possibly the defining nasal voice of his generation, Tom DeLonge headed back into the studio with blink-182 for the first time in 12 years, with the resulting One More Time... topping the Billboard 200 . Linkin Park (" Lost "), Papa Roach (" Cut the Line "), and a reunited Staind (" Lowest in Me ") all scored No. 1s on the Mainstream Rock Airplay Chart, while Sum 41 , Bowling For Soup , and Good Charlotte were just a few of the high school favorites who helped cement When We Were Young as the millennial's dream festival.

The Emo Scene Went Back To Its Roots

After channeling the new wave and synth-pop of the 1980s on predecessor After Laughter , Paramore returned from a six-year absence with a record which harked back to their mid-2000s beginnings. But it wasn't their own feisty brand of punk-pop that Best Rock Album GRAMMY nominee This Is Why resembled. Instead, its nervy indie rock took its cues, as frontwoman Hayley Williams freely admits , from touring buddies Bloc Party.

Paramore weren't the only emo favorites to rediscover their roots. Fall Out Boy reunited with Under the Cork Tree producer Neal Avron and old label Fueled By Ramen on the dynamic So Much (for) Stardust . And while Taking Back Sunday further veered away from their signature sound, the Long Islanders still embraced the past by naming seventh LP 152 after the North Carolina highway stretch they used to frequent as teens.

Country Artists Tapped Into Rock Sensibilities

We're used to seeing rock musicians going a little bit country: see everyone from Steven Tyler and Bon Jovi to Darius Rucker and Aaron Lewis. But the opposite direction is usually rarer. In 2023, however, it seemed as though every Nashville favorite was suddenly picking up the air guitar.

Zach Bryan repositioned himself as Gen-Z's answer to Bruce Springsteen with the heartland rock of his eponymous Billboard 200 chart-topper (which is up for Best Country Album at the 2024 GRAMMYs alongside Kelsea Ballerini 's Rolling Up the Welcome Mat , Brothers Osborne 's self-titled LP, Tyler Childers ' Rustin' in the Rain , and Lainey Wilson 's Bell Bottom Country ). Meanwhile, Hitmaker HARDY — who first cut his teeth penning hits for Florida Georgia Line and Blake Shelton — leaned into the sounds of hard rock and nu-metal on his second studio LP, The Mockingbird & the Crow .

But few committed more to the crossover than the one of country's greatest living legends. Dolly Parton roped in a whole host of hellraisers and headbangers including Richie Sambora , Joan Jett & The Blackhearts , and Rob Halford , for the 30-track Rockstar — her first rock-oriented project of her glittering 49-album career.

Post-Grunge Reunions Were Abundant

Fans of the mopey '90s scene known as post-grunge had all their dreams come true this year thanks to several unexpected reunions. Turn-of-the-century chart-toppers Staind and Matchbox Twenty both returned with new albums after more than a decade away. Creed , meanwhile, announced they'd be headlining next year's Summer of '99 cruise after a similar amount of time out of the spotlight.

The insatiable appetite for all things nostalgia, of course, means that any band — no matter how fleeting their fame — can stage a lucrative comeback. Take Dogstar, for example, the unfashionable outfit boasting Hollywood nice guy Keanu Reeves. Twenty-three years after appearing to call it a day, the Los Angeles trio surprised everyone by hitting the Bottlerock Napa Valley Festival before dropping a belated third LP, Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees and embarking on a headlining national tour.

The New Generation Gave The Old Their Dues

Say what you want about today's musical generation, but they know to pay respect where it's due., Olivia Rodrigo, for example, doffed her cap to '90s alt-rock favorites The Breeders by inviting them to open on her 2024 world tour.

New working-class hero Sam Fender invited fellow Newcastle native Brian Johnson to perform two AC/DC classics at his hometown stadium show . While ever-changing Japanese kawaii metalers Babymetal debuted their latest incarnation on "Metali," a collaboration with one of their musical idols, Rage Against the Machine 's Tom Morello .

Whether new artists are teaming up with the old or veterans are continuing to receive their flowers, 2023 proved that rock is alive and well.

How Las Vegas Became A Punk Rock Epicenter: From When We Were Young To The Double Down Saloon

Viva Punk Vegas! It might have seemed unthinkable a decade ago, but Sin City is "the most punk city in the U.S." GRAMMY.com spoke with a variety of hardcore and legendary punks about the voracious vibe in Vegas that lends itself to punk spirit.

These days, what happens in Vegas, slays in Vegas when it comes to the harder side of music.

It might have seemed unthinkable a decade ago, but as Fat Mike of NOFX and Fat Wreck Chords has been putting out there for a while now, Sin City is basically "the most punk city in the U.S. " at the moment. Some might find this statement debatable, but Vegas has long attracted subculture-driven gatherings, from Viva Las Vegas rockabilly weekend to the all-metal Psycho Las Vegas to the mixed bag that was Las Rageous . The latest slate of huge punk and punk-adjacent music events (from Punk Rock Bowling and When We Were Young to the just-announced new lineup of Sick New World 2024) back his claim even further.

Mike’s own Punk Rock Museum , which opened in April of this year, has cemented the city’s alternative music cred — even as it’s still best known for gambling, clubbing, and gorging at buffets.

In fact, A lot of the audacious new activity is centered away from the big casinos and in the downtown area and arts district of what is known as "old Vegas." Just outside of the tourist-trappy, Times Square-like Fremont Experience, there’s a vibrant live music scene anchored by a few key clubs, and an ever-growing slate of fests.

Live Nation’s second annual When We Were Young Festival brought out a largely Millennial crowd to see headliners Green Day and blink-182 this past weekend, alongside over two dozen more recognizable openers from emo/pop-punk's heyday. Tickets sold so well when it was first announced, that a second day was added to the schedule.

Green Day didn’t stop with their fest gigs; the band played a "not-so-secret" pop-up show last Thursday night at one of the most popular venues in town for punk, alternative and heavy music: Fremont Country Club, just blocks from festival grounds. The show served as a warm-up gig as well as an announcement by Billie Joe Armstrong : His band will join Smashing Pumpkins , Rancid, and others for a 2024 stadium tour. The band also debuted a timely new track, "The American Dream Is Killing Me."

"People who like punk and other heavy music want to be in a club environment like ours, not a big casino," says Carlos "Big Daddy" Adley, owner of Fremont Country Club and its adjacent music space Backstage Bar & Grill. Both have become live music hotspots not unlike the ones Adley and his wife/partner Ava Berman ran in Los Angeles before they moved to Vegas over a decade ago.

"Fremont East," as the neighborhood is called, will soon see a boutique hotel from the pair. Like everything they do, it will have a rock n’ roll edge that hopes to draw both visitors and locals.

The duo told GRAMMY.com that a visit to Double Down Saloon , Sin City’s widely-recognized original punk bar and music dive was what first inspired them to come to Vegas and get into the nightlife business there. Double Down has been slinging booze (like Bacon Martinis and "Ass Juice" served in a ceramic toilet bowl mug) and booking live punk sounds since it opened back in 1992.

"It's kind of a stepping stone for a lot of bands," says Cameron Morat, a punk musician and photographer, who also works with the Punk Rock Museum as curator of its rockstar-led tour guide program. "People always assume that Vegas is just the strip, but that's only like four miles long. There's a lot more of the ‘‘other city.’ There are people who are just into music and into going to local shows who don't ever go to the main strip."

In addition to the Double Down, Morat says Vegas has always had a history of throwing local punk shows at spaces like the Huntridge Theater, which is currently being remodeled and set to re-open soon for local live music. He also points to The Usual Place as a venue popular with local punk and rock bands now, and The Dive Bar — a favorite with the mohawk, patched-up battle vest scene, featuring heavy music seven nights a week, including a night promoted by his partner Masuimi Max called Vegas Chaos.

While glitzy stage shows from legacy artists and mega-pop hit makers like Usher , Elton John , Katy Perry , Carrie Underwood , Gwen Stefani and Lady Gaga still get the most media attention, raucous local shows are starting to factor into a new generation’s vacation planning, too.

"There’s a really good scene here," Morat proclaims. "It's funny because a lot of people, the sort of gatekeepers of punk, ask ‘why is the punk museum in Vegas?’ But it is a punk city, and not just because you've got all the local bands and the venues."

Morat, whose own band Soldiers of Destruction, plays around town on occasion, also notes other acts such as Gob Patrol, Suburban Resistance, and Inframundo as having fierce local followings. He says there’s a certain voracious vibe in Vegas that lends itself to punk rock creation, performance and attitude. "A lot of the anger from punk rock — like the disparity of wealth, for instance, is here," he says. "Five minutes down the road, you've got people throwing away a million on the roll of a dice. But you've also got people who are doing like three jobs just trying to pay their rent."

Over at the Punk Rock Museum, Morat, who moved from Los Angeles to Vegas about seven  years ago, is keeping busy booking big-name guests to share inspirations and war stories, both weekly, and specifically timed with whatever big festival or event happens to be in town. He says he wants to feature artists that might not be thought of as traditional punk rock, but who have relevant backgrounds and stories to share.

"A lot of these people have punk history the public doesn’t know about," he says. "I think if we just stick to a very small well of people, it's going to get pretty boring. So I'm trying to open it up for a bigger cross-section."

The museum is already showing the breadth of punk rock’s influence on music in general. During WWWY, the museum held events tied to its new exhibit "Black Punk Now," curated by James Spooner, director of the 2003 documentary Afro-Punk . As Spooner spoke about the film’s 20th anniversary and his new book of Black punk authors, musicians playing the weekend’s festivities from Sum 41 , MxPx, Bayside, Less Than Jake came through to talk too. Warped Tour’s Kevin Lyman and Fat Mike himself also took part in the museum’s new after-dark guided tour series.

Bringing in a wider audience and a new generation of rebellious kids who seek to channel their angst and energy into music is part of what the museum — and, it seems, the myriad of events in Las Vegas these days — is all about. Despite what some punk rock purists and gatekeepers might say, the inclusion of tangent bands and scenes is in the original punk spirit. He’ll be booking guests tied to next year’s Sick New World, the Viva Las Vegas rockabilly bash and even EDC in the future (electronic bangers are not unlike hardcore ones and even Moby was a punk before he became a DJ).

"I think that the museum is great for the punk scene here," he adds. "People will literally come to town just to see the museum, and then if there's a band playing in town in the evening, they'll go. So it's broadening the support for all the bands, local and touring. Some punk bands used to skip Vegas completely on their tours, but not anymore."

Get Amped For When We Were Young 2023: Sum 41's Deryck Whibley's Favorite Emo Songs By Fellow Performers

Ahead of Sum 41's appearance at When We Were Young Festival in Las Vegas on Oct. 21 and 22, lead singer Deryck Whibley curated a playlist of tracks from Blink-182, KennyHoopla, Good Charlotte and more.

For the second year in a row, pop-punk is taking over Las Vegas. The When We Were Young Festival is bringing another slew of emo and pop-punk acts from the mid/late aughts to the Las Vegas Festival Grounds on Oct. 21 and 22, from Yellowcard to Rise Against to Green Day .

"Fat Lip" rockers Sum 41 are one of the 55 artists playing this year's iteration of WWWY, which will mark two of the Canadian group's final shows (in May, they announced they'll be disbanding after their current tour commitments). Though they've been touring for nearly 30 years, frontman Deryck Whibley tells GRAMMY.com that the front row "looks the same as it did in 2001."

"This music speaks to a younger generation, and the new generation always gets into it," he says. "There's just something about this kind of music that is youthful and exciting, and there's energy there. I think it's always going to be here."

In celebration of the 2023 iteration of When We Were Young Fest, Whibley put together a playlist of 15 songs by his fellow performers, including the Offspring , Blink-182 and the Ataris . Classic Blink-182 Lineup Announces 2023 World Tour, New Music to Come

by Alli Patton October 11, 2022, 4:33 pm

After wiping their Instagram, clearing their website, and dropping cryptic breadcrumbs across the internet, it turns out Blink-182 was actually up to something .

Videos by American Songwriter

The punk rock outfit is officially back with the classic lineup – Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker—new music, and an extensive 2023-2024 globetrotting tour.

The Enema of the State trio became a duo in 2015 when DeLonge parted ways with the band. Replaced by Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, Blink lived on to record two more albums before radio silence in 2019. In the interim, Hoppus battled and beat a cancer diagnosis ; Barker became a Kardashian , and DeLonge became a renowned UFO researcher.

Now, the skate punk prodigies have reunited, announcing their long-rumored comeback in a video that features the band’s trademark immaturity along with snippets of their new single “Edging,” set for release on Friday (Oct. 14).

Their extensive tour will kick off in Central and South America, continuing with a two-month-long North American leg. The end of 2023 will see the band traveling Europe with a trek across Australia and New Zealand into 2024. See all show dates, below.

Blink-182 Coachella 2023

Who Is Opening Blink-182’s 2023 Tour?

Megan Armstrong

Blink-182 is back like they never left. Mark Hoppus, Travis Barker, and Tom DeLonge performed together for the first time in nine years at Coachella last month, including a last-minute headlining set , and Blink’s headlining reunion tour is underway.

The North American trek hits Madison Square Garden in New York on Friday, May 19.

Fans are ecstatic to experience Blink with DeLonge again — the setlist is a nostalgic dream — as he officially rejoined the iconic pop-punk trio last fall, but the tour openers also elicit excitement. Turnstile was announced when the tour was confirmed in October, but Blink-182 updated everyone on April 17.

“We are also excited to welcome Beauty School Dropout, Destroy Boys, KennyHoopla, Landon Barker, and White Reaper on select dates of our North American tour. See you soon!” the band wrote on Instagram .

The North American leg is scheduled to wrap at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee on July 16. The tour’s European leg will run from September 2 to October 15 in Glasgow and Manchester, respectively.

Shows in Australia, New Zealand, Peru, and Mexico are slated for early 2024 after Barker’s finger injury caused a postponement . See all of Blink-182’s tour dates here .

The band, which formed in the early 1990’s, embarked on a world tour in 2023, including a stop for two nights in Chicago with original members with guitarist and vocalist Tom DeLonge, drummer Travis Barker and vocalist Mark Hoppus.

Last month however, Barker left the tour, which at the time was in Europe, due to an " urgent family matter ." It was later revealed that Barker's wife, Kourtney Kardashian, who is pregnant with Barker's child, underwent "urgent fetal surgery."

Due to an urgent family matter, Travis has had to return home to the States. The Glasgow, Belfast, and Dublin shows are being postponed. More information in regards to his return to Europe and rescheduled dates will be provided as soon as available. — blink-182 (@blink182) September 1, 2023

Blink-182’s wildest live moments

Ahead of the classic lineup returning to the UK, we look back at the best performances from the Mark, Tom and Travis show

Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 performs onstage at Madison Square Garden

A paid for ad feature for viagogo.

From scrappy performances on the travelling Warped Tour to impressive festival headline gigs, Blink-182 have always been a chaotic, entertaining live group. There are few bands who can squeeze in that many dick jokes onstage, while still breaking hearts with emotional tracks like ‘Adam’s Song’ or ‘Stay Together For The Kids’.

  • READ MORE: Blink-182: every single album ranked and rated

Ahead of the classic lineup returning to the UK next week and the release of long-awaited album ‘ One More Time ’ on October 20, we’ve taken a trip down memory lane to find the wildest performances in Blink-182 history.

Warped Tour, Miami (1996)

The second ever Warped Tour (and the first sponsored by Vans) featured just two stages, with bands alternating between them. The likes of Deftones, Beck, Reel Big Fish and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones all featured, as did a fledgling pop-punk trio known as Blink-182 who were only added to the lineup on the insistence of Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge. At this point, Travis Barker was yet to join the band with Scott Raynor on drums but already the chemistry between Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus was clear to see.

Famous Stars and Straps, California (1999)

Recommended

With 1997’s ‘Dude Ranch’ and 1999’s ‘Enema Of The State’ turning Blink-182 into punk superstars, this pop-up performance to celebrate the opening of Barker’s Famous Stars and Straps store in California is sheer pandemonium. According to some fans, Barker got in a lot of trouble for shutting down the street for this celebratory gig.

Big Day Out, Sydney, Australia (2000)

Australia was one of the first countries to really embrace the giddy toilet humour of Blink-182. 2000’s edition of the touring Big Day Out festival was headlined by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nine Inch Nails alongside appearances from Foo Fighters and The Chemical Brothers but the talk of the festival was Blink. Pulling a giant crowd, the band opened with the swear-tastic ‘Family Reunion’ and their zero-fucks attitude dominatined a set that was as carefree as it was brilliant.

Pepsi Smash, Target Center, Minneapolis (2004)

Celebrating the release of their iconic ‘untitled’ album, Blink-182 took part in Pepsi Smash, a televised live performance that saw the band power through recent hit ‘I Miss You’ and a turbo-charged ‘The Rock Show’. Showcasing a more mature, refined side of the band that was still capable of packing a punch, this is a snapshot of a band about to blow up.

Tweeter Centre, Camden, New Jersey (2004)

Travis Barker has been rightly celebrated as the missing piece that transformed Blink-182 from scrappy punk rockers to something more ambitious. This 2004 performance really highlights just how much of a beast he is behind the kit, playing the entire gig with a broken right foot without missing a beat.

Conan (2011)

Filmed during the first, short-lived reunion of Blink-182’s classic lineup, this appearance on late night television show Conan captures a band comfortably stepping outside their comfort zone. At the time, sixth studio album ‘Neighborhoods’ had its share of critics but it’s moments like this that showcase the underrated brilliance of that record.

Lollapalooza, Chicago (2017)

Tom DeLonge left Blink-182 again in 2015, with Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba stepping in to keep things going. During his seven-year stint in the band, Blink-182 released two albums (2016’s ‘California’ and 2019’s ‘Nine’) that paid homage to the bands roots but still pushed things forward.

Live, it was easy to miss DeLonge during classics like ‘I Miss You’ but Skiba really took ownership of newer tracks like ‘Cynical’ and ‘Bored To Death’, as seen during this headline set at 2017’s Lollapalooza Festival.

Coachella, California (2023)

Originally billed as a warm-up for their global reunion tour, Blink-182 ended up headlining Coachella Festival after Frank Ocean cancelled his appearance at Weekend Two. A warm, euphoric return from a beloved band, it was the sort of magical set that felt nostalgic, fresh and vital. The trio sounded tighter than ever, but still found time for a well-placed dick joke. No wonder there’s so much excitement around new album ‘One More Time’ and their ongoing world tour.

Blink-182 play:

Oct 11 – London, UK – The O2 Oct 12 – London, UK – The O2 Oct 14 – Birmingham, UK – Utilita Arena Oct 15 – Manchester, UK – AO Arena Oct 21 – Las Vegas, NV – When We Were Young Festival

Feb 9 – Perth, Western Australia – RAC Arena Feb 11 – Adelaide, South Australia – Entertainment Centre Feb 13 – Melbourne, Victoria – Rod Laver Arena Feb 16 – Sydney, New South Wales – Qudos Bank Arena Feb 19 – Brisbane, Queensland – Entertainment Centre Feb 23 – Auckland, NZ – Spark Arena Feb 26 – Christchurch, NZ – Christchurch Arena

Fans can buy and sell tickets for Blink-182 at global marketplace, viagogo here .

Fans from more than 30 countries have bought tickets on viagogo to see Blink 182 perform in the UK at the O2 this October. Ticket sales show that the majority of demand is led by UK based fans followed by US fans travelling to the UK to see this golden state rock band. Tickets on viagogo have sold for as low as 59 GBP.

Blink-182 are getting the band back together with a new tour

Blink 182

Blink-182 has been through a lot. Since forming in 1992, the rock band — a staple of the late ’90s, early 2000s punk takeover — has experienced several fallings-out, lineup changes, hiatuses and reunions that have kept fans on their toes for two decades and counting. For those keeping track, Travis Barker, Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, Scott Raynor and Matt Skiba have all been part of the group throughout its various iterations, but never more than three of them at a time.

But while many things have changed for the band over the years, one thing is for certain as far as fans are concerned: Whenever they are together, the guys of Blink-182 make some good music. They have the commercial success to prove it, too. According to Luminate, the group’s eight-album catalog has raked in a combined 15.3 million copies sold and nearly five billion on-demand official U.S. streams.

Not to mention its chart successes, which solidify the band’s status as pop-punk artists who have paved the way for several acts following in its footsteps. Blink-182 has topped both the Billboard 200 and the Album Sales charts twice, scored four No. 1s on the Alternative Airplay chart and notched eight songs in the Billboard Hot 100 .

That’s why it was so exciting for fans when the band announced in October 2022 that after seven years away, DeLonge would be returning to Blink-182, restoring its classic lineup with Barker and Hoppus. The trio revealed plans to go on a reunion tour in 2023, dropped a new single in celebration of DeLonge’s homecoming titled “Edging” and went on to become impromptu headliners for Coachella 2023’s second weekend lineup after Frank Ocean dropped out. And then there’s the new album that Hoppus has promised is “one of the best albums we’ve ever made.”

Keep reading to take a look through the tumultuous history of Blink-182.

1992: Blinking Into Existence

The very first lineup of Blink-182 — back before that was even their name — included Scott Raynor, Tom DeLonge and Mark Hoppus. The story goes that San Diego natives Raynor and DeLonge first met after the latter was expelled from Poway High  for being drunk at a basketball game and transferred to the former’s school, Rancho Bernardo High. They met Hoppus through a friend’s sister, who was dating the bassist at the time.

After experimenting with a handful of different titles, the band operated for years simply as “Blink,” releasing its demo album Buddha in 1992, and its official debut album Cheshire Cat in 1995 under that moniker.

1995: Blink Becomes Blink-182

Though the band has given many fanciful stories over the years when asked where the specific number in “Blink-182” came from — the number of times Al Pacino drops the F-bomb in Scarface , for example — Hoppus has stated that the guys picked it out completely at random.

Their label at the time, Cargo Records, had asked them to change their name because another group had the same moniker, Hoppus said during a chat with Amy Schumer . He, DeLonge and Raynor delayed the decision for so long, someone from the label spoke with them on the phone and said that if they didn’t pick something new before the call ended, Cargo would choose a name for them.

“We just made up the 182,” Hoppus told the comedian. “Ever since then, we’ve made up different stories all the time about what 182 means.”

By then, the trio had gained a sizeable following in Southern California and would begin embarking on tours of America and Australia, opening for the band Pennywise. They were also booked for the 1996 Warped Tour around this time.

1997: ‘Dude,’ It's a Major Label Debut

Blink 182

Blink-182 recorded its sophomore LP, Dude Ranch , while still with Cargo, but signed to major label MCA as demand for the band boomed. The album earned Hoppus, DeLonge and Raynor their first entry onto the Billboard 200, peaking at No. 67 and spending 48 weeks on the chart.

1998: Enter Travis Barker

Blink 182

Things got tense between Raynor and the rest of the band as Blink-182’s success continued mounting, and he was fired in 1998 . Travis Barker, drummer for fellow Warped Tour band the Aquabats at the time, replaced him, forming what would become the group’s classic lineup.

1999: Mainstream Breakthrough With ‘Enema of the State’

blink-182

Blink-182 became a household name with the massive success of Enema of the State , which became the group’s first Billboard 200 top 10 album in 1999. It spawned radio hits “What’s My Age Again?” and “All the Small Things,” which peaked at No. 58 and No. 6, respectively.

2001: ‘Take Off Your Pants and Jacket’ Debuts at No. 1

Blink 182

One blockbuster album was followed by another when Blink-182 released Take Off Your Pants and Jacket two years after Enema of the State . It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

2002: Tom DeLonge & Travis Barker Form Box Car Racer

Tom DeLonge conceived of a side project called Box Car Racer in 2002, wanting to expand his musical style beyond that of Blink-182. But after he had Travis Barker play drums on BCR’s self-titled debut album, tensions brewed between them and Mark Hoppus, who felt betrayed by his exclusion from the project.

“It was really hard for Mark,” DeLonge said in an archived interview with MTV . “He thought it was really lame Travis and I went and did that, but it was a totally benign thing on my part, because I only asked Travis to play drums because I didn’t want to pay for a studio drummer. It wasn’t meant to be a real band.”

Blink then regrouped to release their fifth LP in 2003, and the resulting self-titled record incorporated darker, more mature sounds reminiscent of BCR and Barker’s side work with the band Transplants.

2005: Hiatus

Blink 182

Disagreements over scheduling, recording plans and personal issues eventually led the band to take an indefinite hiatus in 2005 . In a statement, the band said it was taking a break to “to spend some time enjoying the fruits of their labors with loved ones.”

DeLonge largely disappeared from public eye, while Barker and Hoppus formed a side project of their own called +44. They released just one album together, 2006’s When Your Heart Stops Beating.

2008: Travis Barker Survives Plane Crash

Barker was the victim of a horrific plane crash in 2008 that killed four people. The drummer and his friend and collaborator DJ AM — the only other survivor of the accident, though he died from an overdose one year later — was taking off from South Carolina when the tragic incident happened.

As a result, Barker developed post-traumatic stress disorder — it would take him 13 years to board another plane — and spent many weeks in the hospital recovering from severe burns and injuries. While he was there, though, DeLonge reached out after years of strained communications between him and his bandmates, and a Blink-182 reunion was put into motion.

“Up until that point, I had zero hope for Blink,” Barker said of the crash’s aftermath in a 2011 interview with Daily Beast . “It was something that I had really put behind me. My accident definitely made everyone think about things a little more clearly, especially me.”

“It’s horrible that it took something like that for everyone to wake up, but we realized, ‘Man, life’s short!'” he added. “We were fighting about some bulls–t and not talking, and it wasn’t anything to be fighting over.”

2009: Reunion

Blink 182

With Barker’s arm still in a sling after the plane crash, the guys of Blink-182 formally announced their reunion at the 2009 Grammy Awards. “We used to play music together, and we decided we’re going to play music together again,” the drummer told the audience, with the band also confirming a new album and reunion tour were in the works.

They would go on to release Neighborhoods in 2011, Blink’s first album in eight years, followed by a 2012 EP titled Dogs Eating Dogs .

2015: Enter Matt Skiba, Exit Tom DeLonge

Blink 182

Four years after Neighborhoods , DeLonge exited the band once more in a public, messy war of words. In January 2015, Barker and Hoppus announced the guitarist’s apparent resignation from the band and claimed that he “didn’t want to participate in any Blink-182 projects indefinitely, but would rather work on his other non-musical endeavors.”

Immediately afterward, DeLonge shared a statement saying he actually had not exited the group. “To all the fans, I never quit the band,” he wrote on his Facebook page. “I actually was on a phone call about a blink 182 event for New York City at the time all these weird press releases started coming in… Apparently those releases were ‘sanctioned’ from the band. Are we dysfunctional- yes.”

Barker and Hoppus then clapped back in a tell-all interview with Rolling Stone , claiming that DeLonge had expressed disinterest in recording music with them and only communicated with them over emails through his manager.

“When we did get back together after my plane crash, we only got back together, I don’t know, maybe because I almost died,” Barker said at the time. “But [DeLonge] didn’t even listen to mixes or masterings from that record. He didn’t even care about it. Why Blink even got back together in the first place is questionable.”

Regardless, DeLonge was out of the group — but Blink was still booked for a performance at Musink Festival in just a few weeks. To the rescue came Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, who subbed in for DeLonge at the concert and stayed with the band in his place for many years afterward.

2016: ‘California’ Debuts at No. 1

With Skiba in the mix, Blink-182 scored its second No. 1 album with California . The project was nominated for best rock album at the 2017 Grammys (though it lost to Cage the Elephant’s Tell Me I’m Pretty ) and its lead single, “Bored to Death,” reached No. 85 on the Hot 100.

2021: Cancer Battle

Hoppus revealed in June 2021 that he has cancer and had been undergoing chemotherapy treatments for three months. “It sucks and I’m scared, and at the same time I’m blessed with incredible doctors and family and friends to get me through this,” he shared on Twitter. “I still have months of treatment ahead of me but I’m trying to remain hopeful and positive.”

Soon after, DeLonge shared his support for his friend. “To add to his own words that he used today, I would also like to say that he is strong, and a super-human who is pushing through this difficult obstacle with a wide-open heart,” he tweeted. “#WeHaveHisBack.”

A month later, the singer-bassist shared that he was battling the same cancer that his mother had beaten — diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. “My blood’s trying to kill me,” the rocker shared in a Q&A .

But good news was to come. Hoppus shared at the end of September that his oncologist has declared him “ cancer free .” He told fans on Twitter: “Still have to get scanned every six months and it’ll take me until the end of the year to get back to normal but today is an amazing day and I feel so blessed.”

2022: DeLonge Returns, Band Releases ‘Edging’

Blink 182

The classic Blink threesome was restored at last in 2022, when the band announced that DeLonge would be taking his place back from Skiba and returning to the lineup. The guitarist addressed a public letter to Skiba in light of the announcement, writing, “I wanted to take take a minute and say thank you for all that you have done to keep the band alive and thriving in my absence.”

“Emotions between the three of us in Blink have always been complicated, but Mark’s cancer really put things in perspective,” he continued. “But to be honest, the band would not even be here today if it were not for your ability to jump in and save the day.”

The trio also dropped “ Edging ” — its first single and music video together in years — revealed plans to release a new album and joined forces with Green Day to headline the 2023 When We Were Young Festival.

2022: Teasing New Music

Ahead of the holidays, DeLonge teased on his Instagram account that a new album would be “ coming in a few months .” But that wasn’t all. Hoppus joined in on the merriness by declaring on his own account that the “new album is [fire emoji].”

Shortly after the new year, DeLonge once again shared his excitement for the upcoming Blink album . “This is the best album we’ve ever made,” he wrote on Instagram. “Buckle up.”

2023: Live in the Desert

This was no small thing! After delaying their reunion tour due to Barker’s finger injuries, the band was announced as a last-minute addition to the Coachella 2023 lineup .

During its April 14 set , the band rocked hits such as “What’s My Age Again,” “All the Small Things” and “Feelin’ This,” as well as its latest single, “Edging.”

It was Blink to the rescue the following weekend, when Frank Ocean dropped out days before his second headlining set. The band took over his main-stage spot on April 23.

September 2023: 'One More Time...'

Blink-182

The band announced on Sept. 18 that the long-teased new music from the original lineup was finally coming in the form of a brand new album titled One More Time . The release date for the 17-track release? Oct. 20, with Hopper promising it’s “one of the best albums we’ve ever made” in the announcement video. (Watch it above.)
