Fanny Lumsden’s 7th Country Halls Tour is coming to our hall and it’s going to raise the roof!

Enjoy top-class live original music with 2x ARIA nominated, 2x Golden Guitar winner, Fanny Lumsden and her band, The Prawn Stars at the Newham Mechanics Institute.

Into its 7th tour, Fanny will have brought joy and music to over 130 halls and communities by its completion next year. The western NSW born and raised singer songwriter has had a huge few years since the release of her second album, Real Class Act, which not only debuted at number one on the Country ARIA chart (only independent to do so), it went on to win the AIR Country Album of the year, be nominated for an ARIA award, four Golden Guitar awards (with her film clip for Elastic Waistband winning a GG this year) and three CMC awards.

The Country Halls Tour first kicked off in 2012, raising money for BLAZEAID and helping Riverina communities rebuild after floods. It’s since visited halls all over the Country helping to keep the spirit of the hall alive, both financially and with the energy and enthusiasm it brings with it.

It’s a one of a kind tour, with totem tennis, stories, incredible musicianship by Fanny’s band The Prawnstars (nee Thrillseekers), features a feed by a local community group and performances by local acts. Run by Fanny and her husband Dan, there’s no BS. It’s just straight up good music, good people and a good time.

Country Halls Tour | STORY

7 years ago I convinced my city dwelling/hipster band to jump in a borrowed van and head out to the bush to put on a three free shows in three halls to raise some money for BLAZEAID, who were rebuilding fences for farmers after a particularly bad bout of floods. Little did we know that this would end up being an annual pilgrimage to halls near and far! Fast forward  6 years, we are about to head into out 7th Country Halls Tour and so far have brought our Country Halls Tour show to over 70 halls throughout regional and remote Australia.

Built on the back of communities getting together we endeavour to bring a full shebang of a show with our whole band (The Thrillseekers) to remote and lesser used halls throughout Australia. So instead of people having to travel for a whole day to the city, pay for accom etc and spend thousands to see live music, we bring it to their backdoor... or local hall in this case.  We also feature local artists/musicians/dance trroops/poets etc. from your areas, and have options to put on workshops for the school or greater community where needed. 

Each hall gathers their community together and with help of local community groups like the P&C or footy club, puts on a feed and maybe a bar and hosts our 'all- in - community - night - out' - and hell, what a good time we have. 

Having grown up on a farm in western NSW, attended a small school in the little village of Tallimba, where the only action the Hall saw was the CWA fate, end of year school play/Christmas concert, a deb ball and Barbs 50th, we are working hard at highlighting and celebrating these fantastic spaces all around the country. 

Starting in the Riverina (NSW), it has starting reaching far and wide however we are keen to visit your halls all over the Country and have no intentions of stopping anytime soon!

We give the halls the option to make the event a fundraiser or if preferred just run it as a regular gig and work with the community as much as possible to make sure it suits and features your particular area and hall. We also work really hard to make sure the timing of the event works in with your seasonal events such as Harvest, footy season and doesnt clash with other community events such as deb balls and race meets. 

We are SO SO PROUD of this tour and work all year around on setting it up and do not get paid for it. We do it because we love sharing your halls and meeting you all in little places that have so much to share.

With its humble beginnings of three halls in the Riverina in 2012, ARIA and 8 x Golden Guitar award winning artist Fanny Lumsden’s never ending national Country Halls Tour is celebrating passing its 10 year milestone!

Over that time Fanny and her small (mostly family) team have put on full band, full productions of original live music in over 200 halls all over Australia, raising funds for communities, and raising the roof off of halls with their all-in-community-night-out.

To celebrate they are doing what they do best and heading out in a two-part tour across Australia. Fanny has just announced Part 1 of the tour which will be heading out to halls throughout regional NSW including Tallimba, which was where it all began, the very first hall the Country Halls Tour show every played and also where Fanny grew up in the northern Riverina. Part 2 will be announced later this year and be visiting halls all over the country.

Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Radiators fail once more: Moscow suburbs residents appeal to Putin

R esidents across the Moscow suburbs are besieged by a heating problem, for which they plead direct intervention from President Vladimir Putin. These individuals have yet to experience any semblance of home heating since winter started due to a dwindling supply of heating oil. The issue, one largely avoided by local authority communication, has left residents desperate to the point of directly appealing to the president.

While plots have been uncovered to disrupt Ukraine's infrastructure for a second consecutive winter, thus depriving civilians of heating, it seems Russians are now mired in their crisis. Irony drips from the fact that those under Putin's leadership are looking to cause turmoil in Ukraine, yet at home, they face a similar predicament.

Many dwellings within the Moscow agglomeration are presently without heat. The capital's residents are desperate, directly appealing to President Putin due to a perceived lack of alternate avenues for assistance. The absence of suitable heating functionality since winter commenced pushes them towards desperation with no relief in sight.

This seems improbable, but in Russia, it appears that anything can happen.

It remains uncertain if Vladimir Putin is actively addressing the heating crisis. Some experts suggest that Russia's heating oil reserves are depleting, which negatively affects residents' quality of life. Plagued by cold radiators and plummeting winter temperatures, these citizens have directly addressed their pleas to their head of state.

This heating crisis is happening in Elektrostal, a town approximately 71 miles from Moscow.

Ironically, Russia has constantly aimed to destroy the Ukrainian infrastructure since war broke out, deliberately trying to leave Ukrainians without heating during the harsh winters, aiming to break their strong will. It's an irony they now struggle with a domestic heating crisis, particularly near Moscow, their largest and most pivotal city.

Desperate individuals are reaching out to Vladimir Putin. They question his knowledge of the heating infrastructure conditions in the Moscow suburbs and the dire situations residents face there. Sundown brings no relief from the harsh Russian winter and without heating, their houses turn cold. With elections nearing, more and more residents find themselves reaching out directly to their president.

"Since winter's start, we've been without heating. This has been a yearly occurrence for the past three years. Despite paying for heating, we don't have enough. We implore you, help us!" - these are the desperate pleas from the heavily dressed populace dealing with the Russian winter conditions.

Experts attribute the heating oil shortage to international sanctions and surging demands for diesel fuel, pivotal to military operations. Russia now grapples with a dearth of raw materials essential for boiler and heating plant operation. As supplies dwindle, houses grow cold with little hope of any immediate corrective intervention.

It would be adequate if the war ceased, residents were prioritized, and attention accorded to their welfare.

Fanny and her band have been bringing their harmony-filled, high energy, joyous shows to over 200 halls all over regional Australia for 13 years now and it is their favourite way to tour! 

Who is Fanny Lumsden? 

2x ARIA and 8x Golden Guitar winning artist Fanny Lumsden "has established herself as one of the genre's most esteemed performers"   (The Australian) with her brand new album  HEY DAWN  having just taken out the 2023 ARIA for Best Country Album (presented by Dolly Parton) and debuting at #1 on the Australian Album ARIA charts, making this her second album in a row to crack the ARIA global top ten. Fanny is continuing to break the rules and confirming herself as " undoubtedly the brightest new (country) star of the current era" (Capital News) .   Following up her "breakthrough" album  Fallow,  which took out an ARIA, 5x CMAA Golden Guitars and AIR Country Album of the Year, Fanny is widely known for her regional Country Halls Tour and has recently taken her joyous, energetic and brilliant live show to debut in the UK to a packed Avalon Stage at Glastonbury.  Wrapping up her 'Hey Dawn Tour' which sold out shows through NZ, Ireland, UK and theatres across Australia,  HEY DAWN  "confirms Fanny as a distinctive storyteller, and an indelible personality who can win over fans in or outside of country music"  (Doug Wallan, The Australian).
