See Paris In A Day

  • See Notre Dame Cathedral (from the outside)

Skip-the-line Louvre ticket and guided tour

You'll meet your guide this morning in the famous art district of Montmartre for a walking tour of this historic part of Paris, including a visit to the magnificent Basilica of Sacre-Cœur. Along with your small group, you'll continue to the city's literary heartland, the Latin Quarter, where your guide will tell stories of the famous writers who once called this place home. Here, you can also see the famous Notre Dame Cathedral from the outside—it's still undergoing repairs from the recent devastating fire, so entry isn't currently allowed.

Next, you'll catch the metro to the famous Louvre museum, home to the Mona Lisa and countless other iconic works. You'll skip the line at the Louvre so your super knowledgeable guide can show you the museum's highlights without the famously long wait. Finally, you'll cruise down the River Seine by boat, and finish you tour at France's most recognizable landmark : the Eiffel Tower. Learn the fascinating stories about the most iconic monument in Paris, before parting ways with your guide and using your entry ticket to ascend to the second floor.

Paris in a Day Tour Description

Your 6-hour Paris tour includes:

Guided walking tour of the Latin Quarter and Montmartre neighborhoods

Visit Sacre-Cœur and see Notre Dame Cathedral (from the outside)

Free time in Paris for lunch (not included)

A 1-hour river cruise on the Seine

Entry tickets of the Eiffel Tower (entry times vary based on availability)

Metro tickets included

A fun, professional English-speaking guide

A maximum group size of 18 people

Please note that the order of this tour could be different based on ticket times for the Louvre and Eiffel Tower.

Montmartre, Sacre-Cœur and the Latin Quarter

Home of the Moulin Rouge, Montmartre is Paris' famous art district. Your guide will show you the best of the neighborhood this morning, and you'll learn the best spots to return to if you're planning a big night out in the city. In addition to the nightlife of the neighborhood, Montmartre was also the epicenter of the Belle Époque.

Once home to Renoir, Van Gogh, Picasso, and Modigliani, the neighborhood produced countless famous pieces of art between the 1870s and 1920s. You will pass the café where Van Gogh painted one his most scandalous works—he dared to paint a woman reading!

After visiting the Basilica of the Sacre-Coeur, you'll follow your guide to the Latin Quarter. Montmartre is the center of art, but the Latin Quarter is the center of literature. You will see the café and bookstore where Hemingway and Joyce spent their ex-pat lives in Paris. Then, you can take photos of the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral from the outside—sadly, the cathedral suffered a terrible fire in 2019 and is still being reconstructed.

Louvre Museum Tour

Skip past the famously long lines at the Louvre and see the museum's most influential works on a 90-minute tour of the Louvre. These works include the two of the most important Greek statues still standing: the Venus of Milo and The Winged Victory of Samothrace . These two famous statues are full of mystery and history, and you guide will bring them to life with stories of their meanings and origins.

You'll also see Eugene Delacroix's Liberty Leading the People. A symbol of French independence, strength and culture, it is the most politically important work at the Louvre. The painting is the most famous artistic depiction of the French Revolution and is often compared to the Washington Crossing the Delaware piece found in New York at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The Mystery Behind the Mona Lisa

Why is the Mona Lisa so famous? For starters, Mona Lisa’s expression has been often debated since its creation in the 16th century. Is she happy or sad or playful? Another intriguing thing about Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa is that it's the highest insured work of art at a whopping $800 million.

Leonardo Da Vinci's masterpiece (called La Gioconda in Italian), portrays the wife of a Tuscan aristocrat named Francesco del Giacondo. Though she has been in the Louvre for over 200 years, the portrait became famous when it was stolen in 1911 in a global scandal. Now she is protected with bulletproof glass and personal body guards.

Paris by Boat

Sit back and relax with beautiful views along the Seine. Paris river cruises are a great way to take in the ambiance of the city and get a taste of the luxury that Paris is known for. Cruise around the city and get a new perspective on the iconic landmarks, including the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Notre Dame, and of course, the Eiffel Tower in all its glory.

Eiffel Tower

Finally, led by your professional guide, you'll head to the pièce de résistance of this Paris in a Day Tour. The guide will regale you with tales of the tower's construction, its significance to the City of Light, and the initial public reactions to this daring design. After saying goodbye to your guide, with your tickets in hand, you will have the opportunity to savor the magic of the Eiffel Tower at your leisure.

Fantastic Guide!

Put on your walking shoes and get ready to see the sites. Monika was a superb guide who made 6 1/2 hrs of wet rainy Paris a great day. Her knowledge, organization, understanding of the group dynamics and flexibility kept us intrigued and we certainly had plenty of laughs along the way. Her skill of understanding the ins and outs of getting into the Louvre and knowing where there are no lines for bathrooms made that part of the tour run smoothly. She was adept at so many things! Being able to take the Seine River boat trip any time was a nice option. Having a timed Eiffel Tower ticket was not as convenient. Our tour ended at 3:15 and our ET ticket time was 8pm. We were wet and tired and didn’t choose to go back to the ET to use it. We highly recommend using The Tour Guy as a company and hope everyone gets Monika as a guide!

PARIS | 3-day DIY Paris City Tour

The City of Lights, the city of love, and the place where dreams are woven into the fabric of reality. My first visit to the capital of France was an exhilarating adventure filled with awe-inspiring landmarks and enchanting moments. With just three days to explore this magnificent city, we had a whirlwind of a time, squeezing in as much as we could without feeling rushed. This is our 3-day do-it-yourself Paris City Tour , highlighting the must-see attractions and experiences that you can enjoy in this beautiful city.

Day 1: The Artistic Grandeur of Paris

Louvre museum.

We kicked off our Paris City Tour with an early visit to the world-famous Louvre Museum. As we approached the iconic glass pyramid, I couldn’t help but feel like a character from a Dan Brown novel. Inside the Louvre Museum , we were transported to a world of artistic wonders. As we wandered through its labyrinthine halls, we encountered masterpieces that we had only seen in textbooks and on screens. The immense collection of art and historical artifacts, from the Venus de Milo to the Winged Victory of Samothrace, left us in awe of human creativity and ingenuity.

One of the highlights of our Louvre experience was getting up close with the Mona Lisa, despite the bustling crowd. As we gazed at her enigmatic smile, we marveled at the incredible detail and the enduring mystery that has surrounded this iconic portrait for centuries. This museum is a true treasure trove of human history and creativity, and a visit here is an absolute must when in Paris.

Eiffel Tower

After a few hours of wandering, we headed towards the Eiffel Tower, our next stop. While we chose not to ascend the Eiffel Tower, admiring this architectural masterpiece from the ground was an experience in itself. We couldn’t help but appreciate the intricate lattice work and the tower’s imposing stature. It stood tall, like a guardian overlooking the city, and it was a testament to human engineering prowess.

Trocadéro, a spacious square just across from the tower, was our next stop. It’s the ideal place for a postcard-worthy photograph with the Eiffel Tower as the backdrop. There’s something truly magical about seeing the Eiffel Tower light up as the sun sets. After soaking in the stunning view of the Eiffel Tower from Trocadéro, we stumbled upon an unexpected and heartwarming experience. A group of buskers had set up their instruments nearby, their melodic voices and instruments filling the air with the soulful tunes of Coldplay. The music seemed to harmonize perfectly with the picturesque backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, creating a memorable and serendipitous moment.

As we swayed to the music and sang along with fellow tourists, we noticed a waffle vendor nearby. The scent of freshly baked waffles lured us in, and we indulged in the sweet and warm treat, savoring each bite as we enjoyed the live performance. It was a delightful fusion of flavors and music that perfectly encapsulated the carefree and jubilant spirit of Paris. A perfect start to our Parisian adventure.

Day 2: A Taste of Bohemian Paris

The basilica of the sacred heart of paris.

On second day of our Paris City Tour, we decided to explore the artistic and bohemian side of Paris. Our first stop was the charming Montmartre neighborhood, home to the iconic Sacré-Cœur Basilica. We climbed the steps to the basilica, and as we reached the top, we were greeted with a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. The white domes of Sacré-Cœur stood out against the blue sky, and we took our time admiring the view and the lively artists’ square below.

After taking few pictures, we decided to just relax by the benches along the way down while enjoying an unobstructed view of the city below. After our descent from Montmartre, we decided to take a leisurely stroll through the vibrant streets of Paris. It wasn’t long before our explorations led us to a small and unassuming Asian restaurant tucked away in a cozy street. The prospect of savoring something different from the traditional French cuisine piqued our curiosity, and we eagerly decided to give it a try.

As we sat there, relishing our Asian feast, we couldn’t help but appreciate the culinary diversity that Paris had to offer. This unexpected detour to an Asian restaurant served as a reminder that Paris is not just about croissants and escargot; it’s a melting pot of cultures and flavors that can cater to diverse palates. It was a satisfying break from the usual French cuisine and a delightful reminder that Paris truly is a global city, where culinary adventures know no bounds.

Moulin Rouge

We continued our walk to the world-renowned Moulin Rouge cabaret. While we didn’t step inside the legendary Moulin Rouge, simply standing in front of the iconic red windmill and the grand façade was a memorable experience in itself. The building exudes a timeless charm that harks back to the Belle Époque, a golden age of art and entertainment. Even from the outside, it’s evident why this venue is synonymous with the glitz and glamour of Paris.

Palais Garnier

Strolling through Paris streets, we stumbled upon the Palais Garnier, the Paris Opera House, unexpectedly, and it was magnificent. The opulence of the building surprised us, and we were drawn to its grand façade adorned with ornate sculptures. Even from the outside, the Palais Garnier exuded an air of refinement and sophistication that epitomizes the city’s elegance.

Arc de Triomphe

Afterward, we headed to the grandeur of the Arc de Triomphe. Our Arc de Triomphe visit was poignant, standing at Place de l’Étoile, where twelve grand avenues converge like wheel spokes. With the majestic Arc as the centerpiece, we couldn’t resist capturing the timeless beauty of this iconic monument. Amidst bustling traffic, we waited for the perfect photo moment, observing the city’s pulse in motion around us patiently. It was a tiring day and my feet literally gave up on me.

Day 3: Parisian Elegance and Historical Marvels

Our morning trip to Versailles was an unforgettable journey into the extravagance of the French monarchy. The Palace of Versailles is a remarkable architectural feat, and the Hall of Mirrors, in particular, is a sight to behold. We strolled through the beautiful gardens, admiring the perfectly trimmed hedges and fountains that seemed to stretch to infinity. Versailles is an easy day trip from Paris and a must-visit for history enthusiasts.

Seine River Cruise

In the late afternoon, we rounded off our Paris adventure with a Seine River cruise . The gentle glide along the river allowed us to see the city from a different perspective. The illuminated bridges, including the famous Pont Neuf, cast shimmering reflections on the water. It was a serene and romantic way to bid adieu to this enchanting city.

Paris City Tour – A Dream Realized

Our three days in Paris were a whirlwind of art, history, and culture. From the iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Louvre Museum to Montmartre and on the Seine River, our adventure in the City of Lights was a dream realized.

Practical tips for fellow travelers: Plan well, maximize your time in the City of Lights, and enjoy every moment. To save time, prioritize skip-the-line tickets for popular sites and think about a Paris Museum Pass for multiple museum visits. Paris is a city best explored on foot, so ensure you have comfortable walking shoes during your trip. Download offline maps and navigation apps for easy guidance. Be vigilant about pickpockets in crowded areas, and check opening hours and local events to optimize your itinerary.

While our journey through Paris was short, the memories we created will last a lifetime. The city’s history, art, and culture create a must-visit destination for everyone at least once in a lifetime. Pack your bags, embrace a Paris City Tour, and let this enchanting city work its magic on you. Paris is waiting to be explored and loved.

LA Delegation in Paris To Tour Olympic Village, Arena

T he delegation of Los Angeles officials in Paris to see how the city is preparing for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games is scheduled Saturday to tour the Olympic and Paralympic Village and the arena that will be used for badminton, rhythmic gymnastics, para-badminton and para-powerlifting.

The delegation led by Mayor Karen Bass is also set to meet Saturday with Mayor Mathieu Hanotin of the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis to discuss preparations in his city to host the Olympic athletes as well as the legacy the Olympics will leave for Saint-Denis and its people and its impact on urban planning and housing, according to a spokesman for Bass.

Mayor Karim Bouamrane of the Paris suburb of Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine will lead the delegation on a tour of the Olympic Village.

Bass, City Council President Paul Krekorian, council members Traci Park and Katy Yaroslavsky, Metro CEO Stephanie Wiggins, LA84 Foundation President and CEO Renata Simril and Priscilla Cheng, senior vice president for government relations at LA28, traveled to Paris Wednesday for the five-day trip.

On Friday, the delegation toured a shelter for unhoused women in Paris’ City Hall as well as La Fabrique de la Solidarité, which specializes in distribution of basic necessities and support for seniors. La Fabrique also provides training courses for volunteers, coordinates donations of money, clothes and other supplies and provides information and resources for members of the unhoused community.

The delegation was briefed regarding how Paris hopes to confront homelessness before the Games begin July 24.

The three City Council members in the delegation sit on the Ad Hoc Committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The delegation is expected to return to Los Angeles Sunday.

Step inside the grand suites on the world's most famous train, which start at $26,000 a night and come with around-the-clock butler service

  • The Venice Simpon-Orient-Express is a luxury overnight train in Europe.
  • The train's grand suite, starting at $26,000 a night, is the top tier of accommodation.
  • Each grand suite has a private bathroom with a rainfall showerhead and extravagant decor.

Insider Today

Hundred-year-old carriages from the Orient Express fleet make up the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express , Belmond's revamp of the iconic luxury sleeper train. With 60 routes in 17 cities, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is perhaps the most luxurious train in Europe . Prices start at $9,000 a night.

The train's top-tier accommodation is a grand suite. With a starting rate of $26,000 a night, these rooms are filled with luxury details and amenities unique to any other cabin on board, from a private shower to around-the-clock butler service.

Business Insider recently took a tour of the rooms as a cabin steward explained the details of each suite.

Look inside the train's most extravagant accommodations to peek at the luxury journey of a lifetime.

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is the epitome of luxury train travel in Europe.

paris afternoon city tour

Guests are welcomed on red carpets for an overnight journey with lavishly decorated vintage carriages, fine dining restaurants, and jaw-dropping views of passing scenery.

The train has six grand suite accommodations — each with a unique design.

paris afternoon city tour

Grand suites are the third tier of accommodation — one step above a suite and two steps above a historic cabin .

Each grand suite is inspired by a city on the train's routes, including Venice, Vienna, Istanbul, Budapest, and Prague.

They all include a couch, a double bed that can be converted into two twins, a dining area, and a full en-suite bathroom.

All six have a full bathroom with a rainfall showerhead.

paris afternoon city tour

Each bathroom has a glass-blown sink, heated marble flooring, and a rainfall showerhead.

Grand-suite guests also get complimentary bathrobes and slippers.

Next to each bathroom is a closet with additional storage space so guests can fully unpack and feel at home.

Each has a dining area, too.

paris afternoon city tour

Grand-suite guests are greeted with caviar upon arrival and can dine in their rooms rather than in the restaurant cars if they prefer.

They also get 24-hour butler service and bottomless champagne for the entire journey, the cabin steward told BI.

The Venice grand suite fuses Italian Baroque and Renaissance design.

paris afternoon city tour

Venetian furniture, vintage glass light fixtures, and a combination of silk and woven fabrics fill this suite with a historic Italian ambiance. Navy-blue velvets are reminiscent of the train's exterior.

The headboard combining arches and sharp edges may remind one of the Renaissance castles in Italy .

Emerald and golden details mark the Vienna suite.

paris afternoon city tour

The suite has a classic feel with dark wood contrasting gold trimmings.

According to a Belmond fact sheet obtained by BI, the headboard backing is made of silk to evoke a sense of elegance. Its curved shape and the tassel detailing in the bed's skirt may remind travelers of the historic city's regal palaces .

The Istanbul suite feels like a Turkish palace.

paris afternoon city tour

Shiny, hand-carved wood from the furniture to the walls is a work of art. For those who have been to the Turkish city of Istanbul , the embossed leather and fabric embroiderings may bring back memories of the city's opulent offerings at the famous and historic Grand Bazaar market .

Gothic and Ottoman architectural styles inspired the Budapest suite.

paris afternoon city tour

The Budapest suite is decorated with ornate marquetry and furniture with embroidered silk patterns. The tall, curved headboard may remind travelers of Gothic cathedrals and mosques that date back to the Ottoman Empire .

The Paris suite is meant to evoke romantic vibes.

paris afternoon city tour

Inspired by the city's architecture, the Paris suite nods to art deco elements, classical facades, and the city's high-fashion reputation with a geometric headboard and detailed wooden marquetry.

And finally, the Prague suite nods to the city's theatrical culture.

paris afternoon city tour

Maroon and gold are the colors of the Prague suite to bring travelers a sense of the city's theater scene . Mosaic patterns inspired by cubism fill the walls, and cushions embroidered by hand add luxury details to the furniture.
