BUYER BEWARE! I booked a trip for our anniversary and Debbie was helpful to give me some insight and recommendations. Everything was set but we had to cancel about 6 months before our trip as we relocated for work and couldn't make the trip. I called Debbie to cancel or reschedule but couldn't get a hold of her after multiple calls. I sent her a few emails requesting her help and finally got a response after she said it went to her spam folder. It took her over a month to confirm that the trip had been cancelled after "waiting for credit from the hotel". I did receive confirmation that the trip had been cancelled and to let her know what date to reschedule to. I have since tried to contact her via phone, email and Facebook messenger (also Facebook messenger her employees/associates) but I haven't received any response from Debbie. I did receive a response from one of her associates that they would pass along my message but I am still waiting for a reply. My trip has not been rebooked and I am out over $2500. I have read some other reviews and I have emails, documentation and phone records to back up my claims. All I want is to rebook my trip so that I get what I paid for and not get cheated out of money and a great trip. If Debbie reads this, please contact me . . . You have my information!!! I hope you make this right.

Booked a trip with Debbie to the Dominican Republic (which was through Vacation Express). Due to the COVID19 issues, when the trip date drew closer (May 28 fly-out) we were given the option to continue with the trip, reschedule, or cancel and receive travel vouchers for the amount paid plus $50 per person. We opted to cancel and take the vouchers. It is not almost a full month later and we still have not received the vouchers - and to make it worse Debbie does not respond to calls, texts, or emails. Which leaves us wondering what is really going on. I don't know how you can run a Travel Agency if you can even respond to your customers. I would strongly advise looking elsewhere for a travel agent - unless you are okay with being ignored and having all of your concerns go completely unanswered. I am not sure how to describe my experience but unprofessional would be too gracious. We are still out all of the $ paid for the trip and have not gotten the travel vouchers promised to us when we canceled. We even tried to dispute the charges on our credit card but that was denied because they came back with documentation stating that it was non-refundable. Stay as far away as you can!

Beware!! Beware!! Beware!!! Do not rely on this person to book your travel plans. You will regret it. I made the mistake of referring friends for my bachelor party to her. She will take your money and not book your trip!! Then won't return your calls! Ever! I called to check reservations with SW airlines and they were never booked. She charged my credit card over $1300 and never told me she was doing it. She lied about saying she heard the reservations was canceled. She still has yet to apologize for making my vacation a complete nightmare. I'm in the process of filing theft charges against her. Please don't use her. Select another agency that you trust.

This review is a complete and utter fabrication. I will not get into the facts and details of what actually happened on a public forum. But to anyone reading this review I will be happy to provide DOCUMENTED proof that this reviewers claims are not accurate. The reviewer and his brother which provided the second bad review are not being factual.

BEWARE!!! DO NOT USE THIS TRAVEL AGENT!!!!! Find another one!! You are not dealing with a reputable and good person when you book with this company. I paid for my bachelor party trip to Vegas 6 months ahead of time. It took her 3 months to send me my confirmation!! Then she never paid for it with the hotel or airline but still charged my credit card. A week before my flight for my trip, I called the airlines to pre check-in. Had I not have done that, I would have shown up to leave for my bachelor party and had no flight booked. I left Debbie several voicemails and still haven't talked to her. Not one time did she call to apologize or even call me to tell me everything was ok!! On top of that, the cost of my trip went up $434 because she never paid the airline or hotel the first time when she billed my credit card. She just billed my credit card without even asking me!! I gave her countless chances to, at least, call me to apologize or explain to me what went wrong and she still has yet to tell me what happened. I understand that mistakes happen, but to just do someone terribly wrong like this and not have the decency to make a phone call to apologize and explain what happened is just completely inexcusable. There were several of us on the same booking that endured the same horrible experience with Debbie. I hope to save anyone who reads this the pain that we went through. I'd love to know of any legal action I can take to, at least, get my money back that she charged. Once again.... DO NOT USE THIS PERSON!!

I attempted to contact Debbie and her team multiple times with little to know response. We have had our trip to Jamaica booked for several months and I had to contact the company in which the vacation was booked through to make payments and get information due to the non- response. I even requested information on travel insurence and was told I would receive a response however none was received. I called and left voice messages, sent emails direct and sent FB messages. We still have not completed our travel so far and I am concerned how the remainder of the process will be obtaining our travel documents. Debbie was very active with me when I initially was booking but then was unresponsive after booking. I made my payment with Vacation Express directly because I wasn't sure if I could get in touch with Debbie within 10 days to get my final payment in on time. No other agent within her company would assist me. If you want an agent that isnt responsive, this agent is the way to go, if you anticipate have multiple questions and concerns along the way, I would find someone else.

Photo of Angelo Z.

This company forgot to book my airfare at the agreed time and price. Then a week before my trip, I was charged an additional $530 for the now higher fee. Beware this person/company doing unauthorized charges on your credit card

This review is inaccurate in facts. Anyone wishing to see DOCUMENTED proof can feel free to contact me directly. This review ties in with the review his brother made.

I HIGHLY recommend calling Debbie @ Beach Monkey. I will not share every detail because for one, it's a very long story and two, I typically don't read long, drawn out reviews so I figure no one else does either, but I can say with 100% certainty that she goes the extra mile for her clients. Trust me I witnessed it first hand. Anytime I had a question, she helped; A concern, she reassured. She digs to assess needs, wants, budgets and presents great options. Payment options are simple and convenient and best of all, reasonable. From this moment on I will not travel without calling her first. It's rare to find such personal attention these days and I couldn't be more appreciative of all she did for me and my family.

My family and I just booked a trip to Jamaica using Beach Monkey Travel. We originally tried AAA on McKnight Road and were very disappointed. Luckily a friend of mine recommended that I call Debbie at Beach Monkey and I'm glad I did. She was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. She listened to my concerns, gave me a few things to think about and sent plenty of options to look at. I definitely recommend giving her a call. We are planning to book a trip to Italy in the near future and I will be using her again.

PASSION, OVER PROFIT

We believe and practice fair pay, fair treatment.

Porters carrying their loads in the Everest region; working as a porter with The Monkey Travels.

Know Your Porter.

Dear Trekkers, how about we embark on an exploration of Nepal’s hardworking porters with The Monkey Travels. While the majestic Himalayas draw adventurers from around the world, the porters who carry the load often face exploitation. Let’s shed light on this issue and work towards a fairer trekking industry.

In the heart of Nepal, where the soaring peaks meet the clouds, a silent struggle persists. Essential to the trekking industry, dedicated porters find themselves more or less exploited. At The Monkey Travels, we believe it’s time to address this issue and advocate for fair pay practices. These unsung heroes, often semi/un-educated, embark on arduous journeys for the betterment of their families and children.

Unfortunately, the fair pay that should accompany their labor is elusive. Many porters lack the knowledge of whom to approach or how to voice their concerns. Additionally, amidst the responsibilities of work and family, porters frequently neglect their own well-being. The benefits of their hard work disproportionately flow towards trekking agencies and companies offering premium packages.

The Monkey Travels aims to change this narrative by raising awareness and advocating for fair compensation for these foundational workers. Hence, by choosing The Monkey Travels, you support an ethical approach to trekking. We are committed to ensuring fair wages for our porters, empowering them to lead better lives while preserving the authenticity of your Himalayan adventure.

On a journey with The Monkey Travels that goes beyond breathtaking landscapes, let’s join hands in advocating for fair pay for porters. Moreover, it is our responsibility to ensure that their essential role in the trekking industry is not overshadowed by exploitation. Together, every step in the Himalayas becomes a stride towards a more equitable future for all.

Tanzania Parks - Ratings & Reviews

Wondering which parks you should visit in your Tanzania Safari? you have come to the right place!

We asked our guides to rate the parks and regions in North Tanzania keeping in mind clients' overall experience while visiting these locations. Since several parks are huge and require multiple days to cover properly, these parks have been rated day wise, for multiple days. Further, as experience widely varies from month to month, all the ratings are specific to a month.

Here are the average ratings for each park, for each day of visit on a scale of 1 (Very poor) to 10 (best) throughout the year.

Tanzania Park Ratings

For clients planning a safari tour in Tanzania, we recommend considering the above ratings along with detailed information on each park and the location of each park before finalizing their itinerary.

Watch out for:

These ratings do not take into account locations, transfer times, accommodations and prices of these parks.

These ratings are an average of opinions provided by our guides. They have guided clients over several years and have a vast experience.

Since everyone's interestes and tastes are different, if you (a client) are visiting these parks, you may or may not agree with our relative ratings for each parks. So we suggest you to consider this information along with detailed reviews of each park in the region.

For North Serengeti in early July and South Serengeti/Ndutu in December, the above ratings are assuming migration arrives here by early July/December. But it is possible the great migration might not have arrived by early July/Dec. Sometimes migration arrives at North serengeti by Mid July and at South Serengeti/Ndutu by end of December or early Jan. It is not possible to predict exact migration location at week by week level during these months so your experience of these regions can vary significantly depending on migration movement during the year you are visiting.

The number of days we have considered for each park are what majority of clients spend at these locations. But it is possible to arrange more days at any of these locations than what has been considered above.

Detailed Review of Parks

You can find our short and long reviews for each of popular parks/regions in North Tanzania that you can visit as a part of your safari in below links.

Lake Manyara National Park hosts a wide range of diverse habitats that support a variety of ecosystems and provide shelter to various kinds of animals and birds. But each of the eco systems are small and the number/variety of wildlife sightings here are not as great as what you find in other national parks in North Tanzania. To get more information about Lake Manyara National Park, click here

Tarangire National Park is famous for its Baobabs and concentration of elephants. Its diverse habitats hosts good amount of wildlife and during dry season many even compare it to the Serengeti itself. Birdlife here is richer than any other park in North Tanzania. Given it's size, you can easily spend 2 days in this park. To learn more about Tarangire, click here

Ngorongoro Crater , part of Ngorongoro conservation area is Africa's personal Garden of Eden. With a huge concentration of animals including all of the big 5, scenic beauty, this is an year round attraction and you will have the highest chances of spotting a rhino(though not always guaranteed). Given its small size, we recommend only day for game drives here. To understand Ngorongoro better, click here

Central Serengeti , the beating heart of Africa's most popular National park - Serengeti, is humming with incredible variety of wildlife, and is a must visit destination for all wildlife lovers. You will find more big cats here than at any other region in Tanzania, any time of the year. To get more information about Central Serengeti, click here

Ndutu is where the huge herds Wildebeest and Zebra gather between mid December to early April. Calving happens for about 3 weeks during Jan/Feb where 1000s of wildebeest give birth each day. Predators like lions, Hyenas, cheetahs, leopards will be eagerly awaiting for this event and you have good chances of seeing a hunt here. To know more about Ndutu, click here

Northern Serengeti hosts the great migration between July to October. It has plains, hills, woodlands, valleys, and the famous river Mara. From late July to early October, you might be able to witness the dramatic river crossings of the wildebeest herds as they make their way across the crocodile infested Mara River. To learn more about Northern Serengeti, click here

Western Serengeti is recommended during May/June when the widlebeest and Zebra herds visit this region. Also recommended for its decent wildlife and birdlife and the opportunity of doing game drives in a remote and less crowded region of Serengeti. To get more information about Western Serengeti, click here

Lake Natron is recommended for its flamingoes, beautiful and unique landscape, scenic hikes, cultural activities. The emissions from the nearby active volcano - Oldonyo Lengai have the turned the lake into a highly alkaline water body, which makes it an ideal breeding ground for lesser flamingoes. To get more information about Lake Natron, click here

Lake Eyasi is recommeneded for clients interested in experiencing the way of life of the Hadza, the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes in East Africa. You can engage in activities like hunting and gathering, learning about their customs and beliefs, and gaining a deeper understanding of their way of life. Additionally, the lake and surrounding area offer beautiful scenery and attract a variety of birds. To learn more about Lake Eyasi, click here

Arusha National Park is located right next to Arusha city and has beautiful landscape that includes Mount Meru, the Momela Lakes, and lush forests. The concentration of predators in this park is very low which makes it a good location for hikers and bird watchers. To get more information about Arusha National Park, click here

In his new show, James Harrison Monaco blends storytelling and electronic beats in service of curiosity and escape.

Some ride-share passengers are content to wear headphones and gaze out the window. But anywhere that James Harrison Monaco goes, including the back seat of a Lyft, presents an opportunity to zero in on someone else’s story.

In the first segment of “Travels,” Monaco’s new autobiographical show that opened at Ars Nova in Manhattan on Monday, the playwright and performer tells the audience that he was itching to talk on a recent ride from the Los Angeles airport when the driver handed him an audio cable so he could put on music, opening the door to conversation. Their exchange, Monaco says breathlessly, peeled off like a speeding car.

Monaco’s dogged curiosity, and affinity for electronic beats, propels much of this uneven 90-minute show, for which he also composed the Miami Beach-meets-Berlin underscore. Monaco’s opening anecdote, the first in a series of eight, introduces the sense of possibility he feels when he is in transit, the inquisitiveness he brings to bear on others and his amorphous concept of music as a medium for storytelling.

Eager and bespectacled, Monaco is the first-person voice in each account, but he shares narrating duties with three performers — El Beh, Ashley De La Rosa and Mehry Eslaminia — who take turns recalling his encounters with a handful of people he’s found fascinating over the past several years, both at home and abroad. This layering effect in the performances is echoed in the backbeats and crescendos that a head-bobbing Monaco generates, in collaboration with the instrumentalist John Murchison, from behind an onstage table full of D.J. equipment (the set is by Diggle).

Considering how often Monaco draws attention to his called-off marriage engagement, it would not be unfair to categorize “Travels” as a breakup album. (The project is also a departure for Monaco from his artistic partnership with Jerome Ellis , who contributed additional music.) Reeling from heartache, Monaco seems to search for meaning and solace in the far graver misfortunes of a friend referred to as “R,” a political prisoner turned asylum seeker and the show’s most revisited subject.

“Perhaps all pain is comparable in the end,” Monaco recalls R telling him of their wholly incomparable struggles.

That dissonance is also evidenced in the way Monaco pairs music and language, not with the scansion of a songwriter but with the urgent insistence of someone who has a lot to say. (Monaco is also a translator, and some passages are spoken in Spanish with English supertitles.) A consistent, mid-tempo pulse signals intensity and momentum, and Murchison plays beautifully on string instruments with origins in the Middle East (Monaco shares credit on orchestrations and arrangements with Or Matias; sound design is by Nick Kourtides). But the score’s lack of variation feels like a missed opportunity, as with a stop at a reggaeton club oddly devoid of reggaeton’s distinctive punch.

Passages rendered in talk-singing also suffer from maintaining a fixed register, despite the dexterity that De La Rosa and Eslaminia, in particular, bring to that uneasy endeavor.

The director Andrew Scoville’s production has a maximalist ’90s aesthetic that tends toward overstimulation: projections by Stefania Bulbarella that recall graphic Trapper Keepers, pattern-rich costumes by Sarita Fellow and party lighting by Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew awash in pinks, blues and yellows. It’s a fun, immersive vehicle for a journey more about restlessness than about any particular destination.

The tightly controlled experience of “Travels” can feel both illuminating and unnerving: stories you might absorb at your own pace if not for the unrelenting beats; music you might groove along to if not for the flurry of words. Enjoyment may depend on what type of passenger you tend to be.
