ABOUT LIZZO

A 3x GRAMMY® Award-winning singer, songwriter, rapper, actress, and so much more, Lizzo has shifted the sound, soul, and spirit of popular music and culture. 2019’s now-classic, RIAA platinum certified debut album,  CUZ I LOVE YOU , bowed at #4 on the Billboard 200, fueled in part by such history-making hits as the platinum certified “Tempo (Feat. Missy Elliott),” the 2x platinum “Juice,” the 4x platinum “Good As Hell,” and the 7x platinum “Truth Hurts.” The latter of which ascended to #1 on  Billboard ’s “Hot 100,” affirming Lizzo as only the third female rapper to top the chart without a featured artist, as well as the first black solo female R&B singer to claim the top spot since 2012. “Truth Hurts” dominated the chart for seven weeks, further making history as the longest running #1 by a solo female rap artist ever. Named by Rolling Stone as one of the “500 Greatest Songs Of All Time,” “Truth Hurts” went on to earn a 2020 GRAMMY® Award for “Best Pop Solo Performance,” with  CUZ I LOVE YOU (DELUXE)  receiving that year’s GRAMMY® for “Best Urban Contemporary Album” and “Jerome” earning “Best Traditional R&B Performance.”

Crowned 2019’s “Entertainer of the Year” by both  TIME  and  Entertainment Weekly , Lizzo has adorned the covers of countless publications around the globe, spanning  Rolling Stone ,  Billboard ,  Elle ,  British Vogue , and many more. Among her many unforgettable TV appearances, Lizzo has lit up the stage at the American Music Awards, the MTV Video Music Awards, the BET Awards,  Saturday Night Live , and an epic opening performance at the GRAMMYs, to name just a few. Expanding her imprint and influence across media, Lizzo lent her voice to the 2019 animated film, UglyDolls , and joined Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, and Cardi B in the all-star cast of that same year’s critically acclaimed  Hustlers .

Lizzo maintained this unstoppable momentum on 2021’s RIAA gold certified “ Rumors (Feat. Cardi B) ” and is now set to create her biggest, boldest, and brightest revolution thus far with her massively anticipated second full-length offering  SPECIAL  for Nice Life Recording Company/Atlantic Records, due July 15 th .

Lizzo backlash — and support — continues amid sexual harassment and body-shaming allegations. Here’s the latest

Members of lizzo’s current dance crew issued a statement of support on aug. 17.

It’s been a few weeks since three of Lizzo’s former backup dancers filed a civil lawsuit against the artist, citing sexual harassment and and a hostile work environment — a lawsuit that has sparked a lot of backlash for the singer in the days since it was filed.

“These last few days have been gut wrenchingly difficult and overwhelmingly disappointing,” Lizzo said in a statement posted on social media Aug. 3. “My work ethic, morals and respectfulness have been questioned. My character has been criticized.

“Usually I choose not to respond to false allegations but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous to not be addressed,” Lizzo continued, per The New York Times . “These sensationalized stories are coming from former employees who have already publicly admitted that they were told their behavior on tour was inappropriate and unprofessional.”

Here are the latest updates regarding the lawsuit and backlash.

What is the Lizzo lawsuit about?

In a civil lawsuit filed by three of Lizzo’s former backup dancers on Aug. 1, the singer has been accused of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment, per The Associated Press . The defendants include Lizzo, her production company, Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc., and dance captain Shirlene Quigley.

“Plaintiffs Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez make numerous charges including sexual, religious and racial harassment, disability discrimination, assault and false imprisonment,” The Associated Press reported.

The lawsuit cites an “overtly sexual” work environment that involved “outings where nudity and sexuality were a focal point,” The New York Times reported.

“The dancers say that Lizzo paid undue attention to the weight gain of one of the plaintiffs, repeatedly yelled and cursed at performers, and invited them to attend events as spectators without disclosing that there would be nudity,” per The Washington Post .

Davis, specifically, claims Lizzo shamed her for weight gain before getting fired — an allegation that has generated a lot of disappointment online from fans, considering Lizzo has made body positivity a pillar of her career. Davis was fired in May for recording a meeting where Lizzo was giving feedback about her dancers’ performances, per The Associated Press .

In the lawsuit, Davis says Lizzo asked her “why she seemed less bubbly and vivacious than she did prior to the tour starting” — questions she alleges were “thinly veiled concerns about (her) weight gain, which Lizzo had previously called attention to after noticing it at the South by Southwest music festival,” per The Hollywood Reporter .

Davis says Lizzo never explicitly asked about her weight gain, but claims she was left with the “impression that she needed to explain her weight gain and disclose intimate personal details about her life in order to keep her job,” according to The Hollywood Reporter .

“I believe she was trying to allude to the fact that I was gaining weight in a way that she wouldn’t get canceled, if that makes sense,” Davis told CBS News . “It was not a like, ‘You’re fat, you’re fired.’ It was never ‘you’re gaining too much weight,’ it was never blatant, it was very nuanced.”

Lizzo also allegedly told the dancers they should be grateful since dancers typically get fired for weight gain, per CBS News .

“Everything that she stands for as an artist is a big reason as to why I think people stand behind her as much as they do,” Williams told CBS News . “To me, I just couldn’t sit with the fact that this was happening behind the scenes, and this is a big part of her fan base, but she’s kind of contradicting everything she stands for behind-the- scenes.”

Davis and Williams were fired in the spring of this year, while Rodriguez resigned shortly after, The New York Times reported.

Lizzo responds to the lawsuit

Lizzo said she is passionate about her work and holds her dancers to high standards.

“Sometimes I have to make hard decisions but it’s never my intention to make anyone feel uncomfortable or like they aren’t valued as an important part of the team,” she said in her statement.

The artist specifically addressed the claims of sexual harassment and weight-shaming in her statement.

“I am very open with my sexuality and expressing myself but I cannot accept or allow people to use that openness to make me out to be something I am not,” Lizzo said in a statement, according to The New York Times . “There is nothing I take more seriously than the respect we deserve as women in the world. I know what it feels like to be body shamed on a daily basis and would absolutely never criticize or terminate an employee because of their weight.”

Lizzo faced backlash

Shortly following news of the lawsuit, a headline on a Vanity Fair article read, “ Lizzo’s dethroning has been swift .”

The night the lawsuit broke, Beyonce reportedly skipped over Lizzo’s name in “Break My Soul (Queen’s Remix)” at a concert. In the song, Lizzo’s name typically appears alongside artists like Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill and Nicki Minaj, honoring Black women in the entertainment industry, CNN reported. But recent news indicates that Beyonce has inserted Lizzo’s name back in the song, and even shouted “Lizzo! I love you, Lizzo!” at a recent concert, per Variety .

Since the lawsuit was filed, Lizzo has lost more than 200,000 followers on Instagram, per The New York Post . The annual Made in America festival — which this year featured Lizzo among its headliners — announced on Aug. 8 that it would be canceled, citing “ severe circumstances outside of production control, ” The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Lizzo has also reportedly been dropped from consideration for the 2024 Super Bowl halftime show, per Yahoo! Entertainment .

Former employees of Lizzo have expressed support for the lawsuit, per The Independent . Filmmaker Sophia Nahli Allison opened up about a negative experience working with Lizzo a few years ago and offered support to the dancers who filed the lawsuit.

“This kind of abuse of power happens far too often,” Allison said in a statement, per USA Today . “Much love and support to the dancers.”

The lawsuit has generated significant criticism online, with many fans calling out the alleged discrepancy between Lizzo’s treatment of her dancers behind the scenes and her public image of empowerment and body positivity.

“Lizzo’s dancers made the show for me,” one fan wrote on Twitter . “If this is all true what a hypocrite. You can’t say live in your own skin and then criticize the dancers for gaining weight.”

Lizzo also has her fair share of supporters

But many fans online have also come to the singer’s defense, saying they will wait for the lawsuit to play out before making a judgment. On Aug. 17, members of Lizzo’s current dance crew issued a statement of support.

“We had the time of our lives on The Special Tour. We have been so honored to share the stage with such amazing talent,” the dancers wrote on Instagram, per USA Today. “The commitment to character and culture taking precedence over every movement and moment has been one of the greatest lessons and blessings that we could possibly ask for. “Thank you to Lizzo for shattering limitations and kicking in the doorway for the Big Grrrl and Big Boiii dancers to do what we love,” the dancers continued. “You have created a platform where we have been able to parallel our passion with a purpose! Not only for us, but for women and all people breaking barriers.”

Lizzo previously addressed the backlash she has received and thanked people who have reached out to her to show support.

“I am not here to be looked at as a victim, but I also know that I am not the villain that people and the media have portrayed me to be these last few days,” she said in her statement .

Just last month, Lizzo received wide praise for her interaction with a young fan in Australia who had been bullied on social media.

“They always tell me I’m not good enough,” the fan told Lizzo during a concert in Sydney, per CNN .

Lizzo proceeded to invite the fan onstage and put her arm around her, telling the audience, “The words that we say have a long-lasting effect on people.”

The lawsuit has been filed — what happens next?

The dancers responded to Lizzo’s statement, calling it “disheartening.”

“Personally, looking at the response from Lizzo was so disheartening because she was there,” Davis said on “CNN This Morning,” per CNN . “She was there and to fix your hand, to write on a piece of paper that you discredit everything we’re saying is incredibly frustrating.”

Ron Zambrano, the attorney representing the three former dancers, told NBC News that Lizzo’s “denial of this reprehensible behavior only adds to our clients’ emotional distress.”

“Lizzo has failed her own brand and has let down her fans,” Zambrano said. “The dismissive comments and utter lack of empathy are quite telling about her character and only serve to minimize the trauma she has caused the plaintiffs and other employees who have now come forward sharing their own negative experiences.”

Zambrano also told NBC News that he is reviewing allegations from at least six other dancers who toured with Lizzo.

Moving forward, Diana Reddy, an assistant professor at the University of California, Berkeley’s School of Law, told The New York Times that it can be hard to prove a hostile work environment in the entertainment industry and that a settlement would be likely.

“Employment discrimination plaintiffs don’t fare particularly well in court,” Reddy told The New York Times .

Marty Singer, an attorney for Lizzo, told NBC News the lawsuit is “without merit” and that he is “confident that Lizzo will be completely vindicated in this matter.”

Lizzo Dancer Lawsuit: Lawyers Spar in Court

By Nancy Dillon

Nancy Dillon

The lawsuit alleging Lizzo harassed a trio of backup dancers had its first major court hearing Wednesday, with lawyers on both sides sparring over allegations the singer created a hostile work environment on tour.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mark H. Epstein declined to issue an immediate ruling on Lizzo’s motion to spike the complaint due to her right to free speech, but his barrage of questions suggested he’ll uphold at least some of the nine causes of action filed in August. The judge spent considerable time on the allegation from plaintiffs Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez that Lizzo pressured them to attend after-hours gatherings at venues with nude performers.

Lizzo’s lawyer Melissa Lerner argued Wednesday that the outings were protected by the First Amendment because they furthered Lizzo’s “explicit and expressed creative purposes,” meaning her artistic free speech. Lerner said the plaintiffs were well aware that “Lizzo was under the impression that the performance of the dancers was lagging, that they needed some new injection of creativity and some new inspiration,” and that’s why Lizzo organized the Crazy Horse outing.

“Is there any limit to this? So, basically, anything that happens while they’re on tour that takes place with more than one person could be viewed as team-building?” the judge asked. “We’re dealing with a concert tour. We’re not dealing with an accounting firm…(but) I just want to know, are there any limits, and if so, what are they?”

Lizzo’s lawyer said there may be limits, but everything enumerated in the complaint should be covered by the singer-songwriter’s right to free expression. “This is a group of people who are living, working and traveling together for months on end,” she argued. “These outings are to go watch performers on stage. That is actually the job that plaintiffs are engaged in.”

At this point, Judge Epstein audibly groaned. “The allegation is not, ‘We had to watch it.’ The allegation is, ‘We were pressured into participating.’ Right? Isn’t that the allegation?” the judge asked.

“How is Lizzo forcing Arianna Davis to touch a person’s breast in furtherance of (Lizzo) making a show?” Ronald Zambrano, the lawyer representing the suing dancers, asked the court. “There has to be a line. There has to be a functional connection between the act and the furtherance of free speech.”

The complaint says Williams was terminated from the tour first, in April 2023, shortly after she raised her hand to “rebut” Lizzo’s alleged accusation of drinking on the job. A day later, the dancers were called into a meeting that Davis says she recorded because she has a medical condition that causes her to feel disoriented in stressful situations. According to the complaint, Davis and the other dancers were called to yet another meeting in early May where security confiscated their phones. Lizzo allegedly fired Davis on the spot after Davis admitted she had recorded the prior meeting. When Rodriguez said she felt disrespected by the tour’s handling of the meeting, Lizzo “approached Ms. Rodriguez aggressively, yelling profanities, cracking her knuckles, and balling her fists,” the complaint alleges.

In a sworn statement to the court last month, Lizzo called the allegations in the complaint “absurd” and “ludicrous.” In addition to the claim of a hostile work environment, the plaintiffs allege they were subjected to religious and racial harassment. Davis makes further claims of disability discrimination and false imprisonment, and Rodriguez alleges assault.

Lizzo clarifies her 'I quit' post in new video

Lizzo is clarifying her announcement posted to Instagram last week that culminated with her declaring, "I quit."

After announcing on March 29 that she “didn’t sign up for this s---” and that she quits, without elaborating on what it was she was quitting, the singer shared a video on April 2 “to clarify” her earlier comments.

“I want to make this video because I just need to clarify,” she says in the new video, clad in a blue one-piece bathing suit. “When I say ‘I quit,’ I mean I quit giving any negative energy attention.”

She goes on to say that she is not leaving the music industry.

“What I’m not going to quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting to people, because I know I’m not alone,” she says.

In her original Instagram post, Lizzo said she was “getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.”

“All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it,” she said.

The “Truth Hurts” singer went on to criticize the “lies” she said are being told about her.

“But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it,” she continued. “I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views.”

Lizzo is currently embroiled in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by three of her former dancers . The lawsuit alleged Lizzo created a hostile work environment and sexually harassed employees, which the singer has denied. She is also facing another lawsuit from another former employee who alleges Lizzo allowed bullying, harassment and racial discrimination on her team.

World Premiere Of "Renaissance: A Film By Beyoncé"

In her March 29 statement, the singer said she is tired of “being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look... my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name.

“I didn’t sign up for this s---,” she concluded. “I QUIT.”

Lizzo's team did not respond to TODAY.com's March 29 request for comment.

In her April 2 video post, Lizzo says she hopes to be an "inspiration" to others.

“In no way, shape or form am I the only person who is experiencing that negative voice that seems to be louder than the positive,” she says. “If I can just give one person the inspiration or motivation to stand up for themselves and say they quit letting negative people win, negative comments win, then I’ve done even more than I could’ve hoped for.”

Lizzo concludes that she’s “going to keep moving forward.”

“I’m gonna keep being me,” she says. “Once again, I just want to say thank you, the love that I’ve received, phew, means more than you know.”

Lizzo, whose birth name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, has been in the headlines recently for her political activity and her clothing line, Yitty.

Last Thursday, Lizzo participated in a fundraiser for President Joe Biden in New York City alongside a slew of other celebrities and former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama at Radio City Music Hall.

Lizzo changes course on body positivity

In an interview published days ago by the New York Times about her clothing brand Yitty’s new shapewear-influenced swimwear line, Lizzo did not seem to indicate that she was planning on leaving either the clothing or music industry and declined to discuss the ongoing lawsuit.

She touted Yitty’s new line and opened up about her weight, however, revealing that she has been “methodical, losing weight very slowly.”

She noted that because she is not currently touring, she has more time for self-care.

“I’m taking the time every day to put some love into my body,” she told the Times. “There is never a day when I regret taking a walk or doing some Pilates.”

She added that how she feels about her body “changes every single day.”

“I’m not going to lie and say I love my body every day,” she told the outlet. “There are some days I adore my body, and others when I don’t feel completely positive.”

Once a perceived champion of body positivity, she also revealed to the Times that she is more about “body neutrality” these days.

“The idea of body positivity, it’s moved away from the antiquated mainstream conception,” she said. “It’s evolved into body neutrality.”

Where does the lawsuit with three of her former backup dancers stand?

Three of Lizzo’s former backup dancers — Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez — filed a lawsuit in August 2023 alleging that the singer created a hostile work environment and sexually harassed her employees.

Lizzo denied all allegations against her in the suit, calling them “false,” “unbelievable” and “outrageous.”

The dancers’ lawsuit also named dance captain Shirlene Quigley and Lizzo’s production company, Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc., as defendants, and alleged Quigley proselytized to the dancers and shamed those who had engaged in premarital sex.

Quigley called the accusations “baseless” and wrote in a February Instagram post that “in due time the truth will come out and I look forward to speaking that truth at the appropriate time.”

In February 2024, a judge in Los Angeles County Superior Court denied the singer’s request to throw out the backup dancers’ lawsuit.

Judge Mark H. Epstein did elect to toss out some of the plaintiffs’ accusations against Lizzo and her team, including that Lizzo fat-shamed one of her dancers.

A spokesperson for Lizzo, Stefan Friedman, said in a statement at the time that the team is “pleased” that Epstein chose to throw out “all or part of four of the plaintiffs’ causes of action.”

“Lizzo is grateful to the judge for seeing through much of the noise and recognizing who she is — a strong woman who exists to lift others up and spread positivity,” Friedman said. “We plan to appeal all elements that the judge chose to keep in the lawsuit and are confident we will prevail.”

Fashion designer also sues Lizzo

Lizzo is also fa cing another lawsuit filed by a former employee , fashion designer Asha Daniels.

In the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court in September 2023, Daniels says the musician allowed bullying, harassment and racial discrimination on her tour.

Daniels said in her lawsuit that wardrobe manager Amanda Nomura did offensive stereotypical impressions of Black women, referred to the performers as “fat,” “useless” and “dumb,” and forced them to change in front of a mostly white, male stage crew who would “lewdly gawk” at them. NBC News' attempts to reach Nomura for comment when the lawsuit was filed were unsuccessful.

Friedman, Lizzo’s spokesperson, told NBC News at the time of the filing that Daniels’ lawsuit was a “bogus, absurd publicity-stunt lawsuit” from someone who “never actually met or even spoke with Lizzo.”

“We will pay this as much attention as it deserves,” the statement read. “None.”

That lawsuit remains ongoing .

Lizzo Is Not Quitting Music, Says Viral ‘I Quit’ Statement Was Only About Not ‘Giving Any Negative Energy Attention’

Lizzo is not quitting music or social media. Days after the Grammy winner stirred up headlines for posting “I quit” on social media, she took to Instagram to clarify exactly what she meant and assure fans that she still plans to release new music in the future.

“I wanted to make this video because I just need to clarify when I say ‘I quit,’ I mean I quit giving any negative energy attention,” Lizzo said in a video posted to Instagram. “What I’m not going to quit is the joy of my life, which is making music and connecting to people. And I know I’m not alone. In no way shape or form am I the only person experiencing that negative voice that’s louder than the positive.”

Popular on Variety

In her original message posted March 30, Lizzo wrote that she was “getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.” She said all she wants “is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”

“I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views,” she added. “Being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look … my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name.”

Some media outlets interpreted Lizzo’s statement as her quitting music and/or social media, but that is apparently not the case.

Lizzo’s original “I quit” post arrived amid several lawsuits filed against the singer last year. Three of her backup dancers accused her of creating a hostile work environment, allegations that Lizzo has denied. Lizzo filed a motion to dismiss her dancers’ lawsuit late last year, but a judge is allowing the case to move to trial.

Lizzo Says She Is Not Leaving Music Industry After ‘I Quit’ Post

Lizzo clarified that she was not quitting music after writing on Instagram last week that she was “starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”

Lizzo, the Grammy Award-winning singer, clarified on Tuesday that she was not quitting the music industry, days after her social media post saying “I QUIT” led some fans to speculate that she was ending her music career.

In a video posted on social media, Lizzo said she was not leaving the music business and instead was quitting “giving any negative energy attention.”

“What I’m not going to quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting to people, cause I know I’m not alone,” she said in the video. “In no way shape or form am I the only person who is experiencing that negative voice that seems to be louder than the positive.”

She continued: “If I can just give one person the inspiration or motivation to stand up for themselves, and say they quit letting negative people win, negative comments win, then I’ve done even more than I could’ve hoped for.”

Speculation that Lizzo was leaving the industry arose after she posted a message on Instagram on March 30 that ended with the words: “I QUIT.”

“I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet,” she wrote in the initial post. “All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”

Lizzo has won four Grammy Awards and rose to fame with hits including “Truth Hurts,” “ About Damn Time ” and other feel-good songs that promoted self-love. She built on her success by launching the shapewear line Yitty in 2022, and creating a reality television show on Amazon Prime Video, “ Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls ,” which aired the same year. On the show, dancers competed to back her up onstage.

These ventures have been clouded by criticism, including over a perceived contradiction between her promotion of body positivity and sale of shapewear, while lawsuits were filed last year accusing her of creating a hostile work environment on tour.

Three of her former dancers, including two who competed on the television show, filed a lawsuit in August 2023 accusing Lizzo of creating a hostile work environment. Lizzo denied the allegations . In February , a judge dismissed some of the claims, but allowed the case to move to trial.

In September 2023 , a former wardrobe designer who had worked briefly on Lizzo’s 2023 tour before being dismissed filed a lawsuit asserting that the tour’s wardrobe manager had created a hostile work environment, which tour management and Lizzo had failed to address. A spokesman for Lizzo called the suit an “absurd publicity stunt,” and her lawyers asked a judge to dismiss the lawsuit in December .

The response to Lizzo’s “I QUIT” statement was not the first time she has been the subject of speculation that she might leave the industry. In 2023 , she made her Twitter account private several times, and said it was because of comments people made about her weight.

Lawyer for Lizzo’s Dancers Calls Out Singer Following ‘I Quit’ Post, Says It’s an ‘Outburst Seeking Attention’

"It's a joke that Lizzo would say she is being bullied by the internet when she should instead be taking an honest look at herself," Los Angeles-based attorney Ron Zambrano wrote.

Zambrano’s statement continued, “She can make all of this go away simply by seizing the opportunity here to set an example, own up to her mistakes, pay what’s due to those she’s wronged and work on becoming a better person. Celebrity toxicity is poisoning the entertainment industry with Diddy and Dan Schneider being the latest examples, and Lizzo’s conduct will not be tolerated, either. There is no more safe place in society for this sort of behavior as the entire industry is in for a reckoning for permitting such vile treatment of employees in the workplace.”

Billboard has reached out for Lizzo’s team for a response to Zambrano’s statement.

The singer continued, She continued, “I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look… my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name. I didn’t sign up for this s— — I QUIT [peace out emoji].”

Lizzo has been under scrutiny over the past year, as she’s been involved in a harassment lawsuit brought by three of the “Special” singer’s former dancers in August 2023. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles by dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez, accuses Lizzo (real name Melissa Jefferson) and her Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc. of a wide range of legal wrongdoing and included dozens of pages of detailed allegations. Lizzo denied the claims in a response shared to Twitter, calling them “false allegations” and “sensationalized stories.”

Lizzo says she’s quitting music amid harassment claims: ‘My character being picked apart’

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Lizzo is not feeling good as Hell.

The Grammy winner, who is currently the subject of a sexual harassment lawsuit, seemingly quit the music industry via an Instagram post she shared Friday night.

“I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet,” she began her emotional statement. “All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it.”

“I’m constantly up against lies being told about me for clout & views … my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name,” she further lamented.

She concluded, “I didn’t sign up for this s–t — I QUIT.”

Page Six did not immediately hear back from Lizzo’s representatives regarding the head-turning post.

Her statement came shortly after attorneys for her former backup dancers — Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez — slammed her for performing at a re-election fundraiser for President Biden Thursday evening.

“It’s shameful that Lizzo would be chosen to headline an event like this amid such egregious allegations,” Ron Zambrano told NewsNation . “Without getting into the politics, I can’t imagine why anyone would want Lizzo representing them in any way given her reprehensible behavior. It’s just a terrible look.”

Davis, Rodriguez and Williams sued the “Truth Hurts” singer in August 2023 for creating a toxic work environment and sexual harassment.

In one instance of harassment that allegedly occurred in Amsterdam’s Red Light District, the suit claimed “Lizzo began inviting cast members to take turns touching the nude performers, catching dildos launched from the performers’ vaginas, and eating bananas protruding from the performers’ vaginas.”

Davis also claimed she was “pressured” by Lizzo to fondle a nude performer’s breasts. She further alleged she was shamed for gaining weight by the musician.

Hours after the lawsuit became public, Lizzo’s former creative director Quinn Whitney Wilson and dancer Courtney Hollinquest claimed they were subject to similar situations .

Then, documentarian Sophia Nahli alleged she “walked away” from working with Lizzo after two weeks because she was “treated with such disrespect.”

Arianna Davis

The Emmy winner has maintained her innocence, calling the allegations “outrageous” in a lengthy statement she shared on social media on Aug. 3, 2023.

“I am very open with my sexuality and expressing myself but I cannot accept or allow people to use that openness to make me out to be something I am not,” she asserted. “There is nothing I take more seriously than the respect we deserve as women in the world.”

And although Lizzo threatened to countersue , the allegations kept coming. In September 2023, Asha Daniels, who previously worked in the wardrobe department for the singer’s 2023 tour, filed a lawsuit that accused her of turning a blind eye to a verbally and physically abusive manager.

Lizzo performing

While the accusations are certainly shocking, not everyone feels Lizzo has acted in such inappropriate ways.

Eighteen of her employees signed declarations supporting the pop star that disputed the harassment claims in October 2023.

Several months later, Lizzo appeared in good spirits as she presented at the 2024 Grammys .
