The first full day of this cruise is spent at sea, but pools, a spa, kids' clubs, restaurants, games, and entertainment provide much to do on the way to Cozumel. Celebrity Cruises, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Mexico; 6 Nights

Departing from Fort Lauderdale, Celebrity Reflection spends the first day at sea, giving guests the opportunity to relax in the spa, pool, and solarium. Cozumel is the first stop; the island's coral reef is ideal for snorkeling and diving, while deep-sea fishing is also an option. If you prefer to stay on dry land, you can ferry to Playa del Carmen and Tulum, shop for local-made souvenirs, or dine on fresh seafood and Mexican specialties.

The next port is George Town on Grand Cayman, where guests can shop, go on a catamaran cruise, snorkel, or sample the island's cuisine, including conch. From there, the ship heads to Falmouth, Jamaica. Aside from touring the historic town, there's a wide range of activities: take a trip to the Green Grotto Caves and Dunn's River Falls, ride a horse along the beach, swim with dolphins, or go tubing or zip lining. The next day is spent at sea, with time to enjoy the ship's restaurants, casino, cocktail lounges, and entertainment, before arriving back at Fort Lauderdale the following morning.

MSC Cruises, Western Caribbean; 14 Nights

MSC Divina 's 14-night Western Caribbean itinerary varies slightly from sailing to sailing, but one sample schedule goes as follows: After departing from Miami, the first stop is Nassau, Bahamas, where guests might like to kick off their two-week vacation with a VIP cabana experience on Blue Lagoon Island. The following day, Divina sails to the Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, a private destination with beachside spa treatments, snorkeling and diving opportunities, and an outdoor food court. The ship then returns to Miami for a day before continuing to Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

In Ocho Rios, you can swim in the sparkling Iris Blue Hole or climb to the top of Konoko Falls. Another day at sea follows, during which guests can enjoy this modern, elegant ship with a casino, a spa, kids' and teens' clubs, restaurants, and bars. The next stop is Cartagena, a UNESCO World Heritage site with cobblestone streets and pastel-colored buildings, followed by Colón, Panama. 3 of the world's biggest cruise ships soon will battle for supremacy out of Miami

Get ready for the Battle of the Cruise Ship Giants out of Miami.

Fast-growing MSC Cruises on Thursday officially announced its North America schedule for the summer of 2025, including a Miami deployment that will set the stage for an epic matchup between three of the world's biggest cruise vessels.

As part of the announcement, MSC Cruises confirmed that its soon-to-debut MSC World America would sail from Miami from April 2025 through at least October 2025. This will place it in a head-to-head matchup with Royal Caribbean 's just-unveiled Icon of the Seas and Carnival Cruise Line 's one-year-old Carnival Celebration .

All three of the vessels will be the biggest in their respective fleets.

Scheduled to begin sailing in April 2025, MSC World America will be the world's seventh-biggest cruise ship when it debuts and the biggest MSC Cruises ship ever deployed to North America. Unveiled in January, Icon of the Seas is the world's biggest cruise ship .

Dating to November 2022, Carnival Celebration is the world's 14th biggest cruise ship.

For the summer of 2025, both MSC World America and Icon of the Seas will sail from Miami on Saturdays on seven-night trips to the Caribbean. Carnival Celebration will sail out of Miami on Sundays on six- to eight-night trips to the Caribbean .

As confirmed on Thursday, MSC World America will operate alternating itineraries to the Eastern Caribbean and Western Caribbean.

• Eastern Caribbean voyages will bring stops at Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Ocean Cay, MSC Cruises' private island in the Bahamas.
• Western Caribbean sailings will stop at Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; and Ocean Cay.

Icon of the Seas will rotate among four different itineraries across the Eastern and Western Caribbean that bring visits to such destinations as St. Thomas; St. Maarten (the Dutch side of the island of St. Martin); Roatan; and Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico.

Carnival Celebration will mostly sail to Eastern Caribbean destinations such as St. Thomas, San Juan and Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic. It'll also operate some Southern Caribbean cruises.

The matchup between MSC World America and Icon of the Seas is particularly notable as it marks the first time vessels measuring more than 200,000 tons from two different cruise brands have competed on sailings out of a North American port.

Giants of the seas

MSC Cruises and Royal Caribbean are currently the only cruise brands in the world with ships measuring more than 200,000 tons. MSC World America is expected to measure around 216,000 tons. Icon of the Seas measures 248,663 tons. Carnival Celebration measures 183,521 tons.

All three vessels are among the most venue-filled in their respective fleets, with dozens of restaurants, bars, showrooms and over-the-top attractions on the decks.

MSC World America and Icon of the Seas, in particular, have several similarities, including public area venues segmented into "districts," as MSC Cruises calls them. Royal Caribbean calls them "neighborhoods."

Both ships have been designed around a central interior promenade with entertainment, shops and bars.

Among the standout features planned for MSC World America will be an Aquapark with multiple waterslides that integrate virtual reality technology. MSC Cruises also announced last week that the ship would have what's billed as the only overwater swing ride at sea; the attraction is called Cliffhanger, and it's suspended 160 feet above the water.

MSC World America will also have six pools and 14 hot tubs, making it one of the most pool-covered ships at sea.

As part of its Thursday announcement, MSC Cruises confirmed summer 2025 plans for three other vessels sailing out of North American ports:

• The 4,540-passenger MSC Seascape will operate three-, four- and seven-night itineraries from Miami departing on Thursdays and Sundays. Stops will include Nassau, Bahamas; San Juan; Puerto Plata; Jamaica; Grand Cayman; and Ocean Cay.
• The 4,488-passenger MSC Meraviglia will operate seven-night itineraries from New York City to Florida and the Bahamas and Bermuda, departing on Sundays. Stops on the Bahamas cruises will be Port Canaveral, Florida; Nassau; and Ocean Cay. The Bermuda cruises will bring an extended call at Bermuda's Royal Naval Dockyard.
• The 4,540-passenger MSC Seashore will operate three-, four- and seven-night itineraries from Port Canaveral with a range of port options departing Thursdays and Sundays.

For fans of rock and metal music, ShipRocked is a popular sailing organized by Ask4 Entertainment. The 2025 edition aboard Carnival Cruise Line 's Carnival Magic will start in Miami and include stops in St. Thomas and Half Moon Cay, the line's private island in the Bahamas.

There will be multiple stages for performances throughout the ship. The 2025 lineup will be announced soon, though top bands like Dead Poet Society, Black Stone Cherry, Highly Suspect and I Prevail performed during past cruises. Fans can enjoy one-on-one time with their favorite groups at scheduled meet-and-greets with all the bands.

Electronic dance music fans 21 and older can turn up on this early 2025 Whet Travel sailing from Miami aboard Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas. The cruise visits the line's private beach, Labadee, in Haiti.

The lineup for the EDM sailing hasn't been announced, but previous performers include major headlining acts Tiësto, Diplo and John Summit, plus a remarkable list of dance music stars, such as Aly & Fila, Boris, Craig Connelly, Disco Lines, Haliene and Joel Corry.

Along with multiple music sets, Groove Cruise hosts fun theme party nights focusing on everything from an '80s prom to fire and ice.

Tony Award-winning Broadway stars are coming aboard for Sixthman's third Broadway Cruise, which will sail round trip from Miami to Cozumel, Mexico. The cruise makes its first stop in Grand Cayman before stopping in Aruba and Curacao. Its last stop is Falmouth, Jamaica, a town with cobblestone streets lined with Georgian architecture that sits between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. Best smaller ship Jamaica cruise 

If you’re looking for a luxury cruise experience and a trip of a lifetime that stops in Jamaica, Viking has you covered with its  15-day Panama Canal and Central America itinerary on board the Viking Star. The Viking Star is smaller than most of the cruise ships that call on Jamaica. It accommodates just 930 guests, ensuring top-notch service for everyone on board.

This epic journey begins in Rome and spends a day sailing the Mediterranean Sea before sailing to Valencia and Santa Cruz de Tenerife in Spain. From Spain, the Oceania Vista crosses the Atlantic Ocean for just over two weeks of hopping around some of the Caribbean's top destinations. The cruise stops in Antigua, Puerto Rico, and Cozumel, before eventually making its way to Montego Bay.

Cruise passengers dock fun for charity

Tourists join helping hands, food for the poor to spruce up boscobel primary & infant school.

WHEN THE Norwegian Pearl docked in Ocho Rios, St Ann, on Monday, 32 people among the hundreds of tourists who were part of the Love and Harmony Cruise opted to do charity work at the nearby Boscobel Primary & Infant School instead of having a day of enjoyment in the town.

The tourists, along with local volunteers from the Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation and Food For The Poor Jamaica, repainted the school’s infant department that was constructed by the two local charities in 2017.

Organisers of the school project viewed the support provided by the visitors as refreshing and hope other tourists will also think about doing good to transform the lives of residents while vacationing in the tropical paradise, where many have come to enjoy the food, music, dance, and culture.

Ronnie Tomlinson, Ddirector of public relations, Love and Harmony Cruise, told The Gleaner at the St Mary-based school that for next year, her team hopes to roll in more persons than the 32 volunteers who went for the inaugural charity activity, especially since the organisers plan to double the number of passengers sailing in order to accommodate the actual demand.

“We’re in our sixth annual Love and Harmony Cruise, but we’ve been seeking some sort of partnership given that we come to the island each year, and the work that Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation has been doing on the ground is tremendous, and that definitely played a part in our selection and decision to partner,” Tomlinson told The Gleaner .

“Another thing that was important is the fact that it was infants. From both organisers and for the Love and Harmony Cruise, the key was to help infants and the elderly,” she said.

Tomlinson said that since the announcement on board the ship about this initiative, persons have expressed an interest to contribute, even if not in person, but in cash and kind.

“You don’t have to sail with us to be a part of it. On loveandharmoneycruise.com we have a tab that’s called Love and Harmony Give Back, and you can definitely click that tab and be a part of the initiative,” she said.

The funds raised for the From Love Springs Harmony programme will address some of the challenges of underserved communities in St Mary by providing crucial food assistance to the elderly and supporting the nutritional needs of students at the Boscobel Primary & Infant School by offering breakfast and lunch for approximately 200 students until the end of this school year.

For Marsha Burrell Rose, marketing and development manager, Food For The Poor Jamaica, this concept by Helping Hands Foundation and Love and Harmony Cruise fits well with the charity’s Build Back The Love for Jamaica campaign.

“We want persons to know that when you visit Jamaica, [through the Build Back The Love For Jamaica campaign], we have so many different projects that you can come and be a part of, so while you’re on your vacation, you can give back and do something for Jamaica, knowing that when they leave here, it’s not only about the beauty and the enjoyment, but knowing that you have given back to Jamaica,” Burrell Rose told The Gleaner .

“This is what we want to do. We want persons to return to their roots, reinvest, reconnect, and just rejuvenate with us here in Jamaica,” she said.

The Love and Harmony Cruise was developed for persons to enjoy the Caribbean culture, food, Jamaica’s ‘80s and ‘90s music and sporting activities which take place on the Norwegian Pearl ship. This inaugural charity is dubbed ‘From Love Springs Harmony’.

A mature, global audience

The Norwegian Pearl started sailing on April 13 to explore the waters of the Caribbean Sea for the 2024 iteration of the Love and Harmony Cruise. The musical experience upon the sea is booked out a year in advance and will have on board over 2,300 fans of reggae, dancehall, and soca.

The clientèle is a mature, global audience and lovers of Caribbean culture, so each year, the organisers select artistes with an extensive catalogue who will get their patrons, who they affectionately call ‘harmonisers’, with a stellar line of Buju Banton, Tarrus Riley, Alison Hinds, Ghost, Christopher Martin, and Beres Hammond.

Robert Montague, member of parliament, West St Mary, was on hand to applaud the tourists who chose to do charity work instead of enjoying the town in Ocho Rios.

“To break your vacation to give service to a community is commendable, and we would really want to commend you for doing that because you could have found something else to do with your time, and to come and to offer service to children, those who sometimes can’t give back to you immediately, it is very commendable,” Montague said.

The Helping Hands Jamaica Foundation will build its 27th school in Dumfries, St James, this summer.

Bartlett Leads Jamaica’s Cruise Tourism Growth with Major Cruise Lines

In an effort to drive cruise tourism, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett met with several leading cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, Carnival, MSC Cruises and Disney Cruise Line.

Bartlett said that Royal Caribbean maintains its target of bringing some 400,000 annual visitors to Falmouth.

Additionally, Minister Bartlett stressed the importance of maintaining a strong relationship with Carnival brands, adding that “plans are afoot to have discussions with Princess Cruises, another major player under their umbrella, regarding further collaboration.”

Bartlett also noted that Disney Cruise Line expressed satisfaction with their current operations in Falmouth and a willingness to consider Port Royal as a future destination. 

Commenting on his meeting with MSC Cruises representatives, Bartlett said: “Discussions with MSC Cruises were very positive as they revealed their interest in forging a larger strategic partnership involving investment in local infrastructure.”

Bartlett also revealed that Norwegian Cruise Line expressed interest in expanding their footprint in Jamaica, particularly impressed by the country’s alignment with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, a growing priority for cruise lines.
