If you are planning a trip or vacation and need to bring any prescription pills along, there’s no better solution than a travel pill organizer. With a travel pill organizer, not only can you have a reminder to take your pills on time, but you can also conveniently carry them all in 1 small package.

It might seem like a straightforward thing, but travel pill organizers can sometimes get messy if you don’t pick the right one. To give you some perspective for finding a suitable organizer for your medicine, we’ll give you detailed instructions on what to look for and our top picks.

Travel Pill Organizer

When choosing a travel pill organizer, you should focus on a few crucial features. Some organizers have separate compartments with labels to help you take your medicine at specific times or on specific days based on your prescription. Other pill organizers have larger compartments that can fit multiple pills or larger pills like vitamins and supplements.

It’s also crucial that you go for a pill organizer with a design that allows easy and swift opening while still preserving your medicine. Here are the main things you should look for before making a purchase:

Labeled Compartments

Travel Pill Organizer Labeled Compartments

If you have weekly prescription pills, you could benefit from a pill organizer that comes with labeled compartments. These organizers usually include separate compartments for every day of the week to help you get organized a bit better and more efficiently.

Bottom Line: Some organizers will only have daily labels, while others have compartments with personalizable labels that you can mark with the medicine name or other prescription details.

Easy To Open

Travel Pill Organizer Ease of Opening

Travel pill organizers shouldn’t be too complicated — they just need to have an easy-to-open design . Some might even use buttons to pop the organizer open.

This feature is particularly helpful for the elderly, those with arthritis, or people with other mobility issues. The whole point of this type of design is to keep your pills in 1 place without having to bother too much just to reach into the compartments.

Compartment Size

Of course, you can find different sizes of travel pill organizers, but whether you go for a larger or smaller one could make a huge difference for you. For example, if you just need to store pills or pills that you’ll be taking over the course of a few days, you can go with compact options.

Still, there are also organizers with larger compartments that can fit fish oil capsules and vitamins as well as other larger pills. The compartment size should be based on your prescription pills, their size, and how often you take them .

Time Labels

Along with the compartment labels to designate the pill type and medicine name, you should also look for compartments with a time label. You can fill out this label with your pill schedule based on your prescription so that you never miss taking your medicine on time.

These markings can also be found on the small containment bags that some pill organizers have instead of compartments.

The 10 Best Travel Pill Organizers

The 12 Best Nice-Looking Pill Cases

Including a “sleek” pill case, compact jars, and other stylish options..

The average person in the United States takes at least one pill every day — be it a prescription medication , a supplement , or a vitamin . But finding a pill case that’s not just a piece of plastic labeled with the days of the week — let alone one that looks nice enough to leave out on your counter — is a challenge. And the best pill case for you isn’t just a matter of aesthetics: It can help you stay on track with critical medications, keep your pills from getting crushed, and even remove some of the stigma that you may feel. I spoke with a panel of design-minded pill takers, polled a group chat and members of our Strategist Hive Mind group on Facebook, and dug into our archive to find the best, actually nice-looking pill cases out there, whether you’re taking a single vitamin or several different medications every day.

What we’re looking for

Number of compartments.

If you’re storing Advil for the occasional headache, you probably don’t need a case with seven separate compartments. But if you have a variety of medications you take day and night, more compartments will help. What you pick is dependent on how many pills you take and how often you take them. We included pill organizers ranging from single compartment cases to organizers with slots for every day of the week.

Most conventional pill cases have labeled slots for each day of the week, which can make them feel pharmaceutical. But that design can serve as a useful reminder of whether or not you’ve taken what you need on any given day. There are others that come with customizable labels, too, in case you’d rather sort your pills by type instead of day.

Traditional pill organizers have individual lids that pop on and off. While there are plenty of those in our roundup, there are others that have twist-off or sliding lids. Again, this comes down to preference and what’s most easily accessible for you.

Some of the pill organizers come with added features such as mirrors, a protective outer case, and more. If there are any features that are actually useful, we’ll highlight them.

Best pill organizer overall

Port and Polish Pillbox

Number of compartments: Seven | Labels: Monday through Sunday | Access: Seven lids | Extras: Mirror

About half of the people we spoke to recommended this Port and Polish pillbox-compact as a “sleek” alternative to what you’d normally find at the drugstore. I tested a light-pink one and found that the satin-smooth case was as just cute as everyone said. It’s compact enough to throw in a bag without adding much bulk, and the mirror came in handy more than I thought it would for makeup touch-ups while out and about. Brittany Allyn, the blogger behind Thirty Waves who documents her travels on TikTok , appreciates this mirror when traveling “for last-minute-plucking necessities or to do the back of my hair.” Capacity-wise, each of the seven compartments provides enough room for approximately ten small capsules or four large supplements. Another fan, Strategist’s deals editor Sam Daly, says that after two years of owning hers and taking it on “many trips — whether it’s a cross-country flight home or a birthday-weekend road trip — it’s stood up well.”

Best pill organizer that’s less expensive

FYY Daily Pill Organizer

Number of compartments: Seven | Labels: None | Access: Seven lids | Extras: Magnetic closure

Here’s a pill organizer with the same amount of compartments as above but at less than a fifth of the price. Strategist contributor Alyse Whitney wrote about what she now calls her “Mary Poppins Medicine Cabinet, because it is small — a little larger than a deck of cards — but mighty, housing an array of neatly organized over-the-counter drugs including ibuprofen, Imodium, Lactaid, various allergy meds, Midol, and a few vitamins and supplements.” Its compartments come in three sizes: one larger section (3 by 2 inches), two medium (1.5 by 2 inches), and four small (1 by 2 inches) to fit different quantities and sizes of pills. And not only is it convenient enough for carrying around a mini pharmacy, it’s “so incognito that I have never been stopped at a concert, airport, or anywhere else where someone rustles through your bag,” she writes. While Whitney uses it for bringing medicine with her on the go, it could easily work as an organizer for daily pills and supplements. It comes in the baby pink (which Whitney owns), as well as baby blue, mint green, and white.

Best labeled seven-day pill organizer

Mimi Medcessories Weekly Pill Organizer

Number of compartments: Seven | Labels: Monday through Sunday | Access: Sliding mechanism

Former Strategist audience-engagement associate Hannah Starke wanted a seven-day pill case “that I could throw in my purse or leave out on the desk without feeling like a grandma,” and she searched far and wide before finding this one, which comes recommended by a Strategist Hive Mind Facebook member. Starke likes that this rose-toned case “doesn’t look out of place next to a candle on my desk or a tube of lip gloss in my purse” but is still functional: “I used to carry tons of OTC pills on me at all times, and I think 75 percent of them ended up crushed at the bottom of my purse.” By contrast, this case is “secure” and has an easy-to-use slide-out function that allows her to “put a week’s worth of pills in and forget about it.”

Best less-expensive labeled seven-day pill organizer

Betife Pill Organizer 7 Day

Number of compartments: Seven | Labels: Monday through Sunday | Access: Twist-off | Extras: Outer hard case

Elizabeth Tikoyan , CEO and founder of chronic-illness support group and community Healp , found this pill organizer on TikTok, where people praised how heavy duty and “beautifully designed” it was. Convinced, she ordered one for herself, and it’s now become her everyday and travel organizer. It’s “both functional and heavy duty,” she says. “Surprisingly, you can just throw it into a bag and not worry about it popping open. Once it’s locked in, your pills aren’t going anywhere.” Along with having seven twistable compartments, the case nests in a larger hard case. Tikoyan’s able to fit a week’s worth of pills — about 10 per day — in her case, but she notes it’s still compact enough to throw in her purse. Since purchasing the organizer about six months ago, she’s had other friends ask her about it and even some who’ve replaced their “medical-looking ones” with this.

Best compact pill organizer

Portable 3-Compartment Daily Pill Case

Number of compartments: Three | Labels: None | Access: Twist-off | Extras: Keychain

We once called this three-compartment case “the 007 of pill boxes,” because it’s waterproof and made of durable aluminum and connects to a carabiner. It’s a bit more utilitarian than others on this list, but former Strategist senior writer Karen Iorio Adelson says it’s still “a lot more stylish than one of those bulky plastic pill containers.” With three compartments, it’s great for someone who takes different types of pills on a less consistent basis (allergy medicine or migraine medicine, for example) and doesn’t want to tote around one of the larger multi-compartment cases. Or you could get a two-pack to organize your pills for (almost) a week.

Best two-a-day pill organizer

Yite 2-Pack Pill Organizer

Number of compartments: 14 | Labels: Monday through Sunday | Access: Seven lids | Extras: Outer hard case

Chronic-disease advocate Katie Marie recently replaced her old two-a-day pill organizer with this “cuter” muted pink-and-beige set for morning and night medications. She prefers the look of her new organizer, and one major difference is that it doesn’t leave a plastic-y taste on her pills like her previous one. She attributes this to the material this one is made of: It’s also plastic, but she says it’s higher quality and more substantial. Plus the case’s lids are much easier to snap on and off, making refills less annoying. She often “recommends it to friends who’ve spent dumb amounts of money on pill cases,” she says, adding that this one is well-under $10.

Best pill organizer for travel

Chronically Chic Jetsetter Travel Pill Case

Number of compartments: 28 | Labels: Morning, Noon, Evening, Night | Access: 28 lids | Extras: Outer soft case

Out of the many organizers chronic-illness coach , blogger , and podcaster Nat Kelley has tried, Chronically Chic’s Weekender pill case is her favorite for travel. She can fit over 28 pills in it, and she especially appreciates the four compartments (morning, afternoon, evening, and night) for each day. “It’s perfect for a chronically ill gal,” she says. The four daily cases fit snugly inside of a larger soft case that zips up for extra security. This case is on the larger side, but the site also has more compact four-day options , if you’re looking for something more compact.

Best smart pill organizer

EllieGrid Pill Organizer

Number of compartments: Seven | Labels: None | Access: Sliding top | Extras: Connects to app

Another winner from my group chat: Two friends flagged how cool the EllieGrid looks (though they don’t own it themselves), and one said she bought her aunt Toni this after she was rediagnosed with cancer. Toni likes that it links to her phone and notifies her if she has missed a pill or dosage. There’s a bit of a learning curve, according to Toni, but she said it’s “incredibly worth it once it’s up and running” because it removed a lot of uncertainty from her day. With it, she can check her phone instead of counting pills and doing the math herself. It is much more expensive than the other cases listed, but it’s the only one that connects to an app. And it’s worth noting it’s a bit larger. It has seven compartments — four smaller ones that can each fit an entire bottle of small pills and three larger compartments that can each fit seven large pills.

Best single-compartment pill case

Cadence — The Capsule

Number of compartments: One | Labels: Customizable | Access: Twist-off | Extras: Magnetic

On the other side of the pillbox spectrum are single-compartment cases, which are best for people who just need to store one kind of pill or vitamin. One of the most stylish among these is Cadence, a brand that makes multiuse magnetic capsules from ocean-bound plastic in seven shades to hold your pills (or Glossier moisturizer or small Mejuri hoops). Two of the people whom we spoke to said that the capsules work well as pill cases, including beauty-and-wellness content creator Iman Ogundeko , who says she can fit a month’s worth of small vitamin-D pills in one capsule and a week’s worth of larger pills. “I love that you can customize each capsule in different colors and put emoji or words on the case in order to signify what you’re storing,” she says. The feature that influencer Grace Martinez appreciates the most about the capsules are their “easy to handle” hexagonal shape and magnetization, which makes them easier to find at the bottom of a bag, since they stick together.

Best less expensive single-compartment pill case

BARIHO Store 6 Pack Travel Containers for Toiletries

Number of compartments: One | Labels: None | Access: Twist-off

When Strategist associate editor Jenna Milliner-Waddell spoke to Gina Anderson, senior manager of communications for the Leading Hotels of the World, for a story on the best toiletry bottles , Anderson brought up a hodgepodge of items she travels with. Included was a Sephora travel set with a 20-milliliter silicone jar she uses “for small amounts of pills — throw in a few Advil instead of taking a whole bottle.” Because that set is currently out of stock, we found a pack of three 20-milliliter silicone and three 10-milliliter plastic jars that are very similar. An added benefit is that with the silicone jars, your pills won’t rattle or wear down as much — a conundrum that one reader asked us about before.

Most delightful pill case

Tony Moly Peach Hand Cream

In addition to snail mucin products and colorful sheet masks , Tony Moly, one of our favorite Korean beauty brands , makes fruit-shaped hand creams that you can “repurpose for small sundries” after use, says former New York literary critic Molly Young. While not something you can immediately use as a pill case, we thought it was a delightful and discreet option for stashing pills in. When in the office, Young kept the peach on her desk for Advil, adding that “it’s never not fun to offer someone an Advil out of a lustrous synthetic peach.”

Best at-home pill organizer

Open Spaces Storage Gems

Number of compartments: Four | Labels: None | Access: Two lids | Extras: Stackable

Strategist writer Ambar Pardilla was gifted Open Spaces’ Storage Gems and now uses them “almost exclusively” for her accumulated collection of Excedrin. Pardilla suffers from migraines and would “stash the capsules around because when one hits, I don’t like to fumble for the bottle.” Instead, she has her Excedrin in the bottom half of her acrylic trays for easy access. “It just makes something really dull — grabbing a pill — feel not as dull,” she says “The effect is very Jonathan Adler–esque.”

Light blue pill organizers with 8 compartments

A pill organizer is the most underrated travel items and yet the most useful. While it’s true you can transport them in a plastic pouch, but it’s more prone to leakage and displacement, especially when it comes to traveling. The last thing you want is to be caught at an airport for not obeying the TSA medicine rules for bringing overdosage of medicines in a big prescription bag. That’s exactly where a pill organizer comes in handy.

Not only it keeps your medicines intact, but it also comes in all sizes, styles that are travel custom-approved. So, from hassle-free and straightforward pill dispensers to programmable ones, there’s always a pillbox in the market to suit your needs.

Here’s a rundown of the 15 best pill organizers that will sit pretty in your hand luggage.

Types Of Pill Organizer

Before you get yourself a pill organizer, get to know your options. To get the right one, you have to answer a few questions. Do you take pills daily or only when needed? How many pills do you need to take in a day? Also, are you traveling for a few days or weeks? All these will play into choosing the best travel pill organizer for you.

To narrow down your choices, here are the types of pill organizers:

  • Pillbox: Pillboxes usually come with just one or two compartments. These are perhaps the simplest among the variety of pill containers in the market. They’re small, light, and are perfect for slipping into your bag. This type is ideal for those who only need medication occasionally or those who only take 1 kind of pill every day.
  • Daily organizer: If you take more than one medication per day, get a daily organizer. This type of pill container has more compartments to help you organize your medication. This is a great reminder if you haven’t taken your pills yet for the day.
  • Weekly organizer: Available in either one-time-a-day or multiple-time-a-day styles, weekly organizers offer convenience. This is the best type of travel pill organizer for those traveling for weeks.
  • Monthly organizer: Stay organized for 31 days with a monthly organizer. This is great for long-term travel. Despite the many compartments, a lot of monthly pill organizers are handy.
  • Automatic organizer: This type of pill organizer lets you program it to alarm. This way, you are reminded to take your pills, especially when you’re traveling. Aside from that, the organizer will automatically dispense the medicine in the tray.

Let’s start popping the lids of the best travel pill organizers for your next trip!

The best start when choosing a pill organizer is to determine your needs. The following are questions you need to ask yourself to help narrow down your choices:

  • How often do you need to take your pills? Is it daily or weekly? How many pills do you take per day?
  • How many pills do you need to take a per dose? Is the quantity of the medications you take the same each time or do they vary per dose? This should determine if you need bigger compartments.
  • Do you need an alarm to remind you to take your pill? If yes, do you prefer a note or an automatic notification on your phone?
  • Do you need a pill dispenser with a lock?
  • Are you a frequent traveler? If so, get a pill organizer that’s more travel-friendly. You might consider a waterproof type if needed.
  • Do you want a simple pill container or a stylish one?

A Box For Every Pill

Taking the right medicine at the right time is very important, even when traveling. And with the many things we have to remember each day, it’s understandable why taking pills is often forgotten. How We Selected the Best Pill Organizers

  • What to Look For

Why Trust Verywell Health

Best overall, se7en-day weekly pill organizer.

 Amazon

Compact size

3 separate compartments for each day

Moisture resistant

Difficult for some users to open

Number of Compartments: 21 | Removable Compartments: Yes | Material: Plastic

Why We Recommend It

Reminiscent of the fraction cubes you might have used as a child, this BPA-free plastic pill organizer is perfect for building up your medicine intake for the week and then breaking it down as you go along. Alaina Ross , RN, from Sacramento, CA, loves simplistic seven-day pill organizers like this one. Each pill case is compact and removable for easy, on-the-go use . Within them are three separate compartments to further organize pills based on what time they should be taken: morning, noon, or night.

What’s especially nice about this organizer is that it protects against moisture , and the sealed buckle secures all the pills in place, so there’s no need to worry about spillage or children’s occasionally sneaky hands.

Keep in Mind

Some people experienced difficulty opening this organizer and found the case to be a bit clunky. However, others found it easy to use, so you may not struggle as others have.

Best with Reminder

Medq daily pill box reminder.

Audio and visual reminders

Alarm repeats until pills are taken

Difficult to set up

Number of Compartments: 14 | Removable Compartments: No | Material: Not listed

The MedQ's Daily Pill Box is great for people who need consistent medication reminders . Pill organizers with automatic dispensers can be helpful because they release medication on a set schedule , which is good for people who get confused or don't remember if they took their meds, says Thureiyya Rodriguez , DHA, MSN, RN, WOC from Bronx, NY.

With 14 different compartments , the organizer holds just enough pills to carry you through your mornings and evenings for one week or a single daily dosage for two weeks . This holder has audio and visual alerts to remind you to take medication. In the case of a missed alert, the pillbox will send signals periodically until it's turned off.

Setting up the reminders isn't intuitive, and some people find it difficult to do. We suggest reading the directions thoroughly and taking your time to set everything.

Best for Multiple Doses

Gms four-a-day medication organizer.

4 daily compartments

Braille markings on each lid

Travel-friendly, detachable days

Tray isn't reliable

Number of Compartments: 28 | Removable Compartments: Yes | Material: Plastic

Pill organizers can never have too many compartments, especially when taking multiple medications daily. This GMS weekly pill organizer makes juggling doses simple and accessible , with seven containers broken into four dose boxes divided by the time of the day in two-hour increments.

All the boxes rest on a gridded tray and can easily detach for on-the-go convenience, whether that means slipping into your pocket or travel bag. But the best feature of all is the organizer’s finishing touch: braille markings on each compartment lid to assist those with visual impairments.

For some, the tray isn't very reliable. It can be hard to click the compartments into place and it sometimes even causes spillage. We wouldn't suggest traveling with the entire pill organizer. Instead, take the day compartment with you and leave the tray at home.

Best Portable

Medca pill organizer box.

Travel-sized

4 compartments

Sturdy latch

Small compartments

Number of Compartments: 4 | Removable compartments: Yes | Material: Food grade PP material

The Medca Pill Organizer Box literally fits into the palm of your hand, making it our most portable pick. But don’t worry, it’s not so small that it won’t get the job done. This rounded case can be packed in any tight compartment and is designed to fit easily in purses , overnight bags, and luggage, making it perfect for travel .

The BPA-free organizer is separated into four sections and holds around 25 pills or vitamins. Strong and durable , this airtight case will see you through years of travel.

It's a very small pill case, so it's not the best for larger pills.

Best for Arthritis

Ezy dose weekly pill organizer and planner.

Easy-open lid

Fun color options

Not child-safe

Number of Compartments: 7 | Removable Compartments: No | Material: Plastic

The Ezy Dose Push-Button Pill Organizer relies on push buttons for easy medication retrieval and rounded bottoms for easy gripping , perfect for people who struggle with hand issues like arthritis . Each of the seven compartments is clear for visibility , and together they fit up to 30 aspirin-sized pills . Healthier living is simple and within reach with this organizer.

This organizer isn't child-proof. We suggest storing it in a safe space or looking for an option if that's your priority.

Best Monthly

Medca monthly pill organizer.

Monthly organizer

Travel-friendly

Number of Compartments: 64 | Removable Compartments: Yes | Material: Food grade PP material

The Medca Monthly Pill Organizer makes medication management easy for up to a month. It's colorful with 32 semi-transparent containers split into morning and evening slots for 64 total compartments. It can be quickly removed from its resting grid for easy transport and is made of BPA-free food-grade PP material. This pill organizer is perfect for planners who like to look ahead.

While it has an impressive amount of compartments for medication, they are rather small. This may not be the pick for you if you have larger pills.

Best for Large Pills

Sukuos weekly pill organizer.

Large compartments

Comes with carrying case

Difficult to open

Number of Compartments: 14 | Removable Compartments: Yes | Material: Polypropylene, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene

The Sukuos Large Daily Pill Cases comprise seven circular cases that fit into one big cylindrical case . Each organizer holds 14 capsules split between AM and PM sections , clearly marked for the time of the day and day of the week. The compartments were created with bigger pills in mind, like fish oil and multivitamin capsules.

If you struggle with dexterity, this may not be your pick, as some found difficulties opening the cases.

To determine which pill organizers to feature in our roundup, we did extensive research to find the best ones on the market. We selected picks based on the following criteria:

  • Ease of use: We looked for pill organizers that were intuitive to use and easy to open and close without spillage or physical strain. We also paid attention to how securely they locked into place.
  • Capacity: We sought a range of organizers to fit various needs, sizes, and periods. We prioritized efficient pill organizers with multiple compartments.
  • Design: We checked every pick for its user-friendliness. We noted the physical look and feel, extra colorway options, labelings, lock mechanisms, and additional features that made the organizer stand out against other options.
  • Value: We then compared their performance to the price point to ensure the pill organizer is worth the financial investment.

What to Look for In a Pill Organizer

  • Multiple Compartments: Organizers that come with limited sections and force you to mix various pills can undermine the purpose of a pillbox. The most helpful organizers allow you to dissect and separate your medication based on time, day, and week.
  • Compact: You probably have enough stuff in your purse or pockets, so the last thing you want is to add to the load with a clunky pill organizer that takes up a lot of space. Organizers with detachable containers make life so much easier with their transport abilities.
  • Reliability: Make sure to buy an organizer with a lock that’s reliable but also easy for you to open. You shouldn’t have to worry about your medication spilling out on the bottom of your purse or backpack every time you move.

So, if you are traveling to one of those states, you should travel with your pills in those bottles and pack your organizer separately. Also, if you do travel with your medications in a pill organizer, it is recommended that you bring documentation from your doctor.

To the rescue? Pill organizers, which help simplify this daily ritual.

"A pill organizer is a highly effective way to ensure vitamin and or supplement compliance," says Kien Vuu, MD . "I find them highly time-saving when I have my supplements organized and I don't expend additional time or brain power each time I need to take a vitamin or supplement."

And of course, pill organizers are also helpful if you have a short- or long-term prescription for a medication that you need to take each day. Here, a look at the best options.

4. Best Smart Pill Organizer: Hero Health Smart Pill Dispenser

Hero Health Smart Pill Dispenser, one of the best pill organizers

  • Great for caregivers or anyone taking many medications

If you take several medications, it can be tricky to keep up with how many pills you need to take, and when. Or, it can be stressful if you have loved ones who struggle to take their medicine consistently — particularly if they do not live nearby.

This smart pill dispenser removes the guesswork out of daily medicine management, Dr. Purdy says. "This is fully automatic, holds 90 days of medications at a time and is controlled by an app," she says. "This is great for someone who wants to automate as much of the process as possible and loves integrating technology into their daily routines."

Here's how it works: You talk to your physician or pharmacist about using the product (Hero Health says most insurance companies will work with them and it's covered by Medicare). Then, you load prescriptions into the app, including usage, time of day and so on. Next, you pour in your medication (up to a 90-day supply). When it's time to refill, you are mailed your next 90-days of medication.

There are settings so you can control the medication from afar as a caregiver, too.

5. Best Oversized Pill Organizer: Cadence Capsules A Capsule A Day

Cadence Capsules A Capsule A Day, one of the best pill organizers

  • Oversized compartments
  • Travel friendly
  • More expensive

Some folks take one vitamin and call it a day. Or have their birth control — and that's it. Others, especially those with chronic illness, take mouthfuls of tablets once or twice a day. Many pill organizers can fit a few pills, but this one can be optimized for your specific needs. This type of organizer allows you the room you need to maintain your health.

7. Best Pill Organizers for People With Limited Dexterity: 7-Day Pill Reminder With Push Button

7-Day Pill Reminder With Push Button, one of the best pill organizers

  • Easy to open tabs
  • Larger compartments
  • Not as aesthetically pleasing

If you have limited dexterity in your hands, you'll benefit from a pill organizer that has easier to open tabs, says Danielle Hambrick, PharmD, the manager of Diagnostic Testing at Walgreens. This one has bigger compartments with a button, so shaking or lack of strength doesn't prevent someone from taking their medicine.

‌ Buy it ‌: Walgreens : Price: $4.99

8. Best Pill Organizer With Lock: 7-Day Pill Reminder with Lock Large

7-Day Pill Reminder with Lock Large, one of the best pill organizers

  • Child-proof
  • Easy to store

If you have small children in the home — or maybe grandchildren who visit frequently — Hambrick says it's vital to have a child-proof pill organizer. Ideally, one with a lock, like this top pick. "Always keep all pills on a high shelf away from children... locking the medication can help serve as an extra layer of protection from children gaining access to the medication," Hambrick adds.

What to Look for in a Pill Organizer

1. ease of use.

The goal of a pill organizer is to make it easier to swallow your daily pills. That's why anything you choose should be straightforward and guess-free.

"If someone only takes a couple of medications per day that are not time specific, a very simple pill organizer may be the best choice," Dr. Purdy says. "There are some more complex options that have several doses per day, and even a couple of weeks at a time, which can be used for more involved medication regimens."

2. Medications vs. Vitamins

Skipping a day or two of vitamins won't significantly impact your health in most cases. However, forgetting a prescribed medication can have ramifications. That's why it's important to keep your specific protocol in mind when buying a pill organizer.

Those who need to follow a strict regimen or are caring for someone who is on one, you may want to invest in a smart dispenser. If you're taking vitamin C or a probiotic because you want to — but it's not essential — you may be just fine with a standard pill organizer.

3. Your Needs and Lifestyle

Make sure to opt for a pill organizer that suits your needs. That may mean selecting one with easy-to-open buttons or a large font (so you can easily see the day of the week). Other features, like the ability to lock the pill organizer, may or may not be important.

If you take medications twice a day, look for an organizer that has a.m. and p.m. compartments, suggests Jamie McManus, MD, chair of medical affairs, Shaklee Corporation. "If you want to take your meds when you are out and about, look for an organizer that has pull-out compartments that you can take in your purse or backpack," she says.

The Best Pill Boxes

Our three picks for best pill box, displayed next to a bunch of scattered pills and pill bottles, in front of a blue background.

By Adrienne Day

Pill boxes are the unsung heroes of medical care. Whereas for some people they function as time-savers or take-your-pill reminders, for others they are an essential part of a health-care routine.

After evaluating 14 pill boxes, interviewing experts, and testing boxes with a variety of people, we don’t think one pill box is right for everyone. But we can recommend a few that will fit most people’s needs.

Everything we recommend

best travel vitamin case

Auvon iMedassist Moisture-Proof Weekly Pill Organizer

The most versatile pill box.

Good for both weekly and daily pill organization, this case is more durable and closes more securely than most organizers we tried. It’s huge, though—there’s no hiding this pill box.

Buying Options

best travel vitamin case

Auvon Weekly Pill Organizer with Spring Open Design

A pill box designed for arthritic hands and fingers.

Larger compartments and a push-button design make this pill box easier to open and close than other models. But it has only one compartment per day, and it feels a bit lightweight and flimsy.

best travel vitamin case

Mimi Medcessories Pretty Pillbox

A sleeker pill box.

Attractive and shiny, this model is the only pill organizer we like that doesn’t scream “I’m a pill box!” But we found it easier to accidentally spill pills with this case.

How we picked and tested

We looked for pill boxes that work for home use and for travel.

We preferred durability, ease of opening, and compartments that fit lots of pills.

We tested the pill boxes with five people who regularly take pills, and we got feedback from people at a senior center.

We sought a good-looking, well-organized pill box, as it can make the daily process of taking pills less onerous.

The most customizable option we tested, the Auvon iMedassist Moisture-Proof Weekly Pill Organizer comes with a case that holds seven smaller, color-coded containers for every day of the week, each with four pill compartments. The daily containers pop out, so you can bring just one day’s supply with you, no need to cart the whole thing around.

In contrast to some models we tested, this case has a latch that snaps shut, making accidental spills unlikely, even if you drop it. The Auvon iMedassist organizer was also one of the better-quality cases we tried, with a moisture-resistant gasket that makes a tight seal around the exterior of the box and better rub-resistant markings than we’ve seen on other models.

Other manufacturers make similar pill organizers, but the Auvon iMedassist had higher buyer ratings and the most reviews on Amazon at the time of our testing.

The Auvon Weekly Pill Organizer with Spring Open Design is a good choice for people who want a pill box that opens with the push of a button as opposed to their needing to pry open a latch.

This brightly colored model has roomy slots for every day of the week, and the marks on each compartment are rub resistant.

It has just one (fairly large) compartment per day, however, so it might not work for someone on a complicated pill-taking schedule. And we found its build quality to be a little flimsy.

The Mimi Medcessories Pretty Pillbox is definitely the sexiest pill box we tested (if a pill box can be considered sexy). Whereas most pill boxes look like they belong in a hospital, the Pretty Pillbox, with its sleek and compact silhouette, looks a bit like an oversized tube of lipstick. As a result, it’s not only discreet but also a great on-the-go option.

Unlike other cases, the Pretty Pillbox has an additional compartment for pills taken on an as-needed basis.

Some testers found the sliding mechanism a little finicky to use, however, and it’s easier to accidentally spill pills out of this case than with our other picks.

The research

Why you should trust us, who this is for, the most versatile pill box: auvon imedassist moisture-proof weekly pill organizer, the best pill box for arthritic fingers: auvon weekly pill organizer with spring open design, the most attractive and discreet pill box: mimi medcessories pretty pillbox, other good pill boxes, the competition.

As an occasional caregiver for family members, I’ve doled out plenty of medications and relied on pill boxes to track what I’m doing. For this guide, I spoke with experts on caregiving, consulted with community centers for older adults, and pored over hundreds of online pill box reviews, as well as academic research on pill boxes and medication management.

Beyond offering convenience and keeping pills organized, a pill box can help anyone who takes medications, in a few crucial ways:

  • Remembering medication: A good pill box can literally be life-saving. Not taking medications as they’re prescribed causes around 125,000 deaths a year in the US alone, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • Staying independent for longer: Pill boxes can forestall the need for more intensive care such as an adult-care facility, said Amy Goyer, AARP’s family and caregiving expert. “A pill box can be really key in helping someone be independent for as long as possible,” she said.

When you’re choosing a pill box for yourself or a loved one, think through the following questions to help you select the right model:

Do you need flexibility?

Your needs will most likely change over time, so if you want to purchase only one pill box, it may be prudent to buy a model that’s larger than you think you need.

Who will use the organizer?

If someone doles out your medication, it might be a good idea to involve them in the decision of which pill box to get.

Do kids live in the home?

Although most pharmacy pill bottles are child resistant, most pill boxes aren’t. If you are concerned about kids or anyone else getting into a pill box, invest in a model that either locks or allows you to monitor its contents (the only monitoring model we tried was the Med-E-Lert , which, unfortunately, we didn’t like).

Do you need automated reminders?

In theory, a smart pill dispenser connected to your phone via an app can remind you or a loved one to take medication on schedule and monitor adherence. Unfortunately, the smart models we tried don’t live up to the hype . If you need a reminder to take pills, we suggest setting up a scheduled reminder on a phone or a smart speaker for use in combination with a regular pill box.

Our three picks for best pill box, displayed in front of a blue background.

You can find hundreds of pill boxes out there, and new ones are surfacing all the time. To narrow the field, we started with advice from AARP’s Amy Goyer: “Can you get it open easily? Will it stay shut? Are you gonna spill your pills when you pick it up? These may seem like little things, but in the middle of a caregiving day, it can really throw things off.”

In looking for pill boxes to test, we wanted to find models that met the following criteria:

  • Big enough for lots of pills: We looked for boxes that had compartments roomy enough to hold large pills—or a good quantity of medication and vitamins—and would be appropriate to set on a counter.
  • Good for travel: We also considered smaller cases suitable for fitting inside a bag.
  • Priced right: A good pill box shouldn’t cost more than $25, and many decent ones are less than $10.
  • Easy to open: A pill box is helpful only if the person can open it. For anyone who has limited wrist or finger strength, a model with spring-open compartments is a better choice. But even models without springs should open relatively easily.
  • Well made: The hinges shouldn’t break, the markings shouldn’t rub or wash off, and the day-of-the-week labels should be clear.
  • Stays closed during transit: Digging around a bag for spilled pills is no one’s idea of fun, so we looked for pill boxes that stayed shut even when jostled around.
  • Made with removable compartments: Although removable compartments are not essential for a box you’ll use mostly at home, if you travel a lot or need to access your pills during the day, the option to carry a smaller container can be key.
  • Designed attractively: A good-looking and well-organized pill box can do a lot to make the daily process of taking pills less onerous.

Though pill box choice is highly subjective, when we were deciding on which models to test, we noticed that a few elicited rave reviews on Amazon, Facebook groups, and Reddit.

We tested 14 pill boxes, including two smart pill dispensers and an automatic model. I put most of them through an array of stress tests, bending back the hinges to see if they flexed without snapping and dropping them from counter height to see if they would break or pop open.

I also noted how easy each box was to open, taking into consideration the needs of folks who may have limited strength or dexterity in their hands. I scraped the markings on each box to see if they would come off. I tested whether each box was readily portable and if it accidentally opened while in transit. And I used the top four contenders for a week each during my own pill routine.

I tested pill boxes with members of the Park Slope Center for Successful Aging in Brooklyn, New York. I also asked my mom’s caregiver and my dad to test some of the pill boxes.

Finally, three Wirecutter staffers who take daily pills and have a diversity of pill box needs—including taking a lot of pills, taking pills at specific times throughout the day, needing something portable, and needing to be reminded to take pills—tested our top picks.

Wirecutter’s smart-home expert, senior staff writer Rachel Cericola, tested the smart and automatic pill dispensers. She evaluated the setup process, gauged the quality of the accompanying apps, and used each dispenser during her own routine.

Our pick for best pill box with the most storage space that is easy to transport, the Auvon iMedassist Moisture-Proof Weekly Pill Organizer. It has a clear plastic casing around individual rainbow-colored boxes for each day of the week.

Who it’s for: People who want a pill box that can hold a week’s worth of pills yet is flexible enough for daily transport.

Why it’s great

It’s large enough to fit all your pills for the week. The Auvon iMedassist Moisture-Proof Weekly Pill Organizer consists of a section for each day of the week that can hold four daily doses. Some people we spoke with liked this design because they could use it for two weeks (by using half the compartments) or even a month (by using only one compartment per day). Other organizers we tried that had fewer daily compartments were too small to hold a week’s worth of pills, especially for people who take a lot of medications. The individual compartments in the Auvon iMedassist model are also big enough to hold larger pills and supplements.

It’s easy to travel with. The smaller daily cases are removable, so if you’re going somewhere for a day, you can just take that day’s pills rather than taking the whole case. And if you’re traveling with the larger case, its sturdy latch makes spills unlikely. Most of the other organizers we tried aren’t quite as flexible. One of our panelists said, “I balked at how unwieldy the Auvon seemed at first since the full case is enormous, but removing an individual day each morning makes it much less obtrusive.”

It’s well made. Some pill boxes we tested had markings that rubbed off right away, but the Auvon iMedassist organizer’s markings are embedded in the plastic and withstood our efforts to scratch or remove them. Five separate hinges hold together the case, which seems designed to withstand many hours of opening and closing.

The Auvon iMedassist Moisture-Proof Weekly Pill Organizer, shown with all the colorful day-boxes neatly organized into its clear, plastic case.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

  • You won’t fool anyone into thinking this is anything but a pill box. It may be “too much” pill box for some people. This was pretty much the only thing our testers took issue with.
  • One tester thought the markings were confusing, as this organizer indicates the time of day with a rising sun, a full sun, a moon, and a star. If you prefer word labels, you might consider the Sukuos Weekly Pill Organizer 7 Day (4 Times a Day) Case , an extremely similar model that simply states “Morn,” “Noon,” “Eve,” and “Bed” on its compartments.

Our pick for best pill box for people with limited hand dexterity, the Auvon Weekly Pill Organizer with Spring Open Design.

Who it’s for: People with limited hand dexterity or strength who might have a hard time with a traditional pill box latch.

It’s easy to open. If dealing with a traditional clasp is an issue for you, the Auvon Weekly Pill Organizer with Spring Open Design might be the right choice. It’s designed to pop open when you push down on a lever. (We were even able to open the compartments using only our elbows.) One tester said the spring-open design made this box “a pleasure” to use.

It has spacious compartments. Its individual compartments were among the biggest in our tests and are roomy enough for large pills and supplements.

It has clear labels. The letters denoting the day of the week are large and did not rub off when we scraped them.

  • This Auvon organizer has only one compartment per day, so if you need to take pills more than once a day, at a specific time, this model might not be for you. If you want a similar design with two compartments, we recommend the Ezy Dose AM/PM Weekly Pill Organizer , though the markings on that model started coming off within a day of use in our tests.
  • It’s quite lightweight, and it had a tendency to slide along the counter when we tried to open it with one hand, so you may have to hold it down with one hand while depressing the lever with the other.
  • Some testers noted that the hinges felt flimsier than those on our other picks.

Our pick for best pill box that has the most elegant design, the Mimi Medcessories Pretty Pillbox, in rose, in front of a blue background.

Who it’s for: Anyone who wants a nicer-looking (and still functional) pill box and doesn’t mind paying a little more for it.

It’s good-looking, and it comes in multiple colors. Most pill organizers look like they belong in a hospital—and with them, there’s no hiding the fact that you’re using a pill box. In contrast, the Mimi Medcessories Pretty Pillbox could pass as a cosmetic case. The plastic body is coated with a soft metallic material that gives it an elegant glow. It comes in three colors: rose, champagne, and “steele.”

It has daily compartments, plus an extra. In addition to the usual one compartment per day, this model includes a small compartment for pills taken on an as-needed basis, unlike our other picks. It also slides open easily in either direction, revealing compartments for Saturday and Sunday on one side and Monday through Friday on the other.

It’s portable. Though this pill box is large enough to hold a week’s worth of pills, it’s still small enough to slide into a bag or purse.

The Mimi Medcessories Pretty Pillbox, shown with the inner compartments box pulled out of and leaning against the outer casing that it fits into.

  • Although everyone who saw this pill box loved the idea, some testers were put off by its plastic sliding mechanism, which felt like it could easily break. Another tester found the mechanism to be sticky in the beginning, though its movement became smoother after a few uses.
  • It’s far too easy to open this box upside down and accidentally dump all your pills out on the floor (confirmed one late night by yours truly), as the top side looks identical to the bottom, save a small logo.
  • The compartments are narrower than those of our other picks, so if you have thicker fingers, plucking the pills out may be more difficult. This pill box also may not work for someone who has to take more than a few pills a day.
  • Some online reviewers don’t like that the Saturday and Sunday compartment labels are switched (an intentional design choice so that they appear in the correct order if you slide open the pill box to the right), but this didn’t bother us.

If you’re looking for an easy-to-open pill box with two compartments per day: We really liked how simple the Ezy Dose AM/PM Weekly Pill Organizer was to open. It has two compartments per day that spring open in a similar fashion to those of the Auvon Weekly Pill Organizer with Spring Open Design , and it also has little grippy feet that prevent it from sliding along the counter as you put pressure on the latch—a downside of the Auvon version. But its day-of-the-week markings started to rub off almost immediately in our tests.

If you want a prettier pill box: With more than 10,500 followers on Instagram and raves on Reddit, Port and Polish definitely has a fanbase. The pill box is cute and discreet and comes in an array of colors. But we thought the day-of-the-week tabs were a bit flimsy, and we didn’t understand why a pill box needed a mirror.

If you need a pill box with Braille labels: Curiously, the only pill box we encountered with Braille was this Ezy Dose Weekly Pill Organizer —and with a price around $4.50, it was one of the cheapest models we saw at the time of our research. It comes in a variety of colors, and it seems fine as a basic option with only one compartment per day.

If you want a pill box with four compartments per day but find the labels on our top pick somewhat cryptic: The Sukuos Weekly Pill Organizer 7 Day (4 Times a Day) Case is similar to the Auvon iMedassist Moisture-Proof Weekly Pill Organizer in every way but uses “Morn,” “Noon,” “Eve,” and “Bed” for the time of day as opposed to symbols.

Classic pill boxes

Although the Holii Daily Pill Organizer and the Kemaier Daily Pill Organizer are good-looking, neither is organized by the day of the week or labeled on its compartments, and the Kemaier box is often out of stock.

The Se7en-Day Weekly Pill Organizer is much like our top pick, the Auvon iMedassist organizer, but the case is a bit flimsier, and it has only three compartments per day (which could be a selling point for some people).

The Sukuos Weekly Pill Organizer 7 Day (2 Times a Day) has round containers that hold the morning and evening pills for each day, and we like that those containers are removable. But we found the cartridge shape bulky and the latch for the case quite flimsy.

Smart and automatic pill dispensers

The Ellie Smart Pill Box was the best smart pill dispenser we tested, and it has the potential to be a time-saver for people with complex pill-taking regimens. However, for most people, we don’t think this model is helpful enough to warrant its high price. The box doesn’t track how many pills you take from the pill reservoir, or even if you’ve removed a pill at all—only that you’ve opened the box. On top of that, in our tests the spring-loaded latch had a tendency to pop open a bit too abruptly and eject all of its contents. We also had a difficult time connecting a smartphone to the device, though customer service was quick to help us. Some useful-sounding features, such as the box’s ability to notify a caregiver that you’ve taken your pills, are available only for an additional weekly fee.

The battery-operated Med-E-Lert Automatic Pill Dispenser is quite large, and in our tests it was confusing to set up. The individual compartments are too small to fit larger vitamins or supplements, and it doesn’t offer a remote way of shutting it off, so if you are out of the house, the alarm will sound until you attend to it (though you can program it to flash a light instead of making a sound). That said, one caregiver we spoke with noted that this model was great for her particular situation, and some online reviews say that it works well for people living with dementia. It’s the only dispenser we tested that has a lock and key, which you must use to fully open it.

The Loba Smart Supplement Organizer is a smart pill dispenser that’s geared toward the “wellness market” rather than older adults or others who take medications, and it lacks certain features that are crucial for many people, such as an audible alarm and customization of the schedule for different days of the week. It does have small removable compartments, though, as well as customizable LED colors that make the box glow in any hue you choose.

The Hero is a subscription-based smart pill dispenser that has some rave reviews online for its ability to integrate remote care into the pill-dispensing process, but we decided against testing it because of its very high price tag, which includes a one-time initiation fee of about $100, a monthly fee ranging from $30 to $45 depending on the plan you choose, and a one-year minimum commitment.

16 Best Pill Organizers That Are Stylish and Practical

best travel vitamin case

By Malia Griggs

best pill organizers featuring three different types on teal background

Anyone with a regular medication regimen knows the frustration of finding the best pill organizer for their needs—and one that isn’t totally  blah to look at day after day, dose after dose. Maybe you take daily multivitamins or birth control pills, or maybe you’re on a more intense schedule that requires multiple doses a day. Whatever the case, there are plenty of pill boxes and dispensers out there that are as pretty as they are practical.

When it comes to figuring out the right pill dispenser for your lifestyle, it’s crucial to consider how you’ll use it. You’ll want to factor in how frequently you take your meds (daily, twice a day, four times a day), when and where you plan to use the case (at home or while traveling), how often you prefer to refill your case (weekly or monthly), how large your pills are, and how dextrous you are (in which case, an easy-access pill box may be ideal). You’ll find there are pill boxes with different numbers of compartments that are as divided and as spacious as you need, compact enough to slip into a pocket or purse, and even smart enough to send you notifications when it’s time to take your dose.

From Amazon to Etsy, below are some of the best pill organizers on the market that will streamline your meds in a stylish way. They also make an excellent organization gift for the Type-A person in your life.

Another shopper raves that the organizer holds up to a month’s worth of meds before needing a refill.

Owning a dependable suitcase is already a game changer for easeful travel, but any piece of luggage can be improved drastically with the addition of the right organizers. Travel organizers, from packing cubes to cosmetic bags, can help maximize space within your bags by neatly compartmentalizing items, preventing over-packing, and ensuring that every inch of your suitcase is utilized effectively. This not only allows you to pack more efficiently, but also helps keep your belongings easily accessible. Without organizers, even the best packed suitcase can transform into chaos after a week on the road. Meanwhile, the dedicated compartments of organizers help keep your clothes, toiletries, jewelry and more in their intended spaces no matter how many times you unpack and repack.

Since the world of travel organizers is incredibly vast, we’ve rounded up some of the best in each category, from shoe bags to innovative compression bags, to tame the unruly chaos of clothes, toiletries, and accessories. Say goodbye to the tangled mess and hello to a meticulously organized suitcase, paving the way for a journey where every item always finds its perfect place.

Best Packing Cubes

Gonex compression packing cubes.

The compression capability and high-quality construction make these packing cubes a must.

They aren’t technically waterproof.

What sets the Gonex Compression Packing Cubes apart is their ability to maximize packing efficiency beyond the standard. Their robust zippers not only make compressing the cubes a breeze but also nod at the longevity of these organizers, thanks to their durable construction and stitchwork.

Despite the non-waterproof nylon material, our tests revealed that they still repel water when a bit is splashed on the exterior. Coupled with the added protection of a suitcase, this ensures that the contents, particularly clothing, remain dry during travel.

An additional highlight is the user-friendly design, featuring convenient handles on the top of each cube. This thoughtful addition simplifies the process of grabbing the bags for both packing and unpacking, enhancing overall travel convenience. Lastly, the set's inclusivity of extra-large, large, medium, and small bags provides versatility.

The Details: 3 or 4 bags included | 17.3 x 13 x 3.54 inches (extra large), 14.5 x 10.6 x 3.54 inches (large), 11.8 x 8.9 x 3.54 inches (medium), and 9.8 x 7.5 x 3.54 inches (small) | Ripstop nylon

Best Cosmetics Bag

Béis the cosmetic case.

It’s durable, capacious, and nice to look at — plus, it has a large built-in mirror.

We feel it could benefit from interior straps to hold products down.

The Béis cosmetics case effortlessly blends reliability, style, and compact design with surprising spaciousness, making it a standout option for travel cosmetic bags. Besides an easy open and close main compartment, it has a versatile central compartment designed for brushes and smaller items that can be removed depending on your needs. The thoughtful design extends with multiple additional pockets, pouches, and discreet slots, providing designated spaces for all your beauty essentials. A large attached mirror also makes for a handy companion for on-the-go makeup application during travel.

Our own tests showed that when combined, the PU leather and hardware resulted in efficient padding that protected the case's contents from bumps and drops. Also, impressively, the bag maintained its shape and aesthetic despite the inevitable wear and tear of being on the go. Available in a spectrum of colors, this cosmetic case ranges from classic beige to navy, olive, and slate blue.

The Details: 9.5 x 4 x 7 inches | PU leather, nylon, PVC, poly | Zipper closure

Best Shoe Bag

Eneteck shoe bags.

Individual compartments keep shoes clean and organized.

It’s better for slim profile shoes like flip-flops and sneakers.

For short trips where versatile footwear is a must, Eneteck's multi-pocket shoe bag is super ideal. This breathable bag, capable of accommodating three pairs of shoes, provides individual compartments to prevent any potential dirt or scuffs, keeping your footwear in top condition and totally organized.

The outermost pocket, designed with partial mesh, adds an extra layer of functionality — perfect for storing damp flip-flops or any shoes that benefit from additional ventilation. A notable feature, per our tests , is one compartment's spacious design, tailored to accommodate larger and heavier footwear like sneakers. We love that it also includes a convenient trolley sleeve with an extra zipper pocket, providing quick and easy access to your essential items such as keys or a cellphone.

The Details: 11.8 x 8.7 x 5.5 inches | Fits 3 pairs | Twill, mesh

Best Toiletry Bag

Away large toiletry bag.

Its minimalist design is surprisingly spacious.

If you only plan on bringing a carry on you might want to consider their smaller size.

You probably already own an Away suitcase, but did you know they make travel accessories, too? One of them is this editor-loved toiletry bag with a versatile design that effortlessly accommodates all your travel essentials and more.

Zip open this minimalist travel bag, and you’ll see what sets it apart is its thoughtful interior organization, featuring a range of compartments for all your travel must-haves. The exterior pocket, strategically placed for easy access, proves handy for stowing sharp items like razors and nail clippers, while a zippered middle pouch is perfect for a toothbrush and toothpaste. The bag's grab-and-go zip functionality allows it to expand generously, offering convenient access to all your products. Inside, a clear cosmetic-type bag, a middle zipper pouch, two mesh linings mean there’s a designated space for every essential. The lightweight, water-resistant material is also a plus.

The Details: 10.2 x 3.7 x 5.9 inches | 8.8 ounces | Nylon | Water-resistant

Best Travel Document Organizer/Passport Wallet

Leatherology zip around travel wallet.

Its RFID-blocking capabilities means you’ll be safe from cyber hacking of your credit cards.

It’s larger than your typical wallet, since it also accommodates a passport.

This travel-perfect wallet by Leatherology stands out thanks to its sleek leather exterior and adaptable design, making it a great choice whether you’re headed to the airport or just running errands. Unlike typical passport wallets featuring snap closures, this one boasts a wraparound zipper instead — ensuring the secure storage of passports, credit cards, cash, and more during your journeys. Not only does it offer ample space, accommodating multiple passports, up to eight credit cards, and currency without adding bulk, but an additional exterior pocket creates convenient access to boarding passes, so you don’t have to rummage around in a moment’s notice. While its larger size can make it difficult to fit into smaller purses, you can also opt to carry it as a chic clutch or pop it into a larger bag like a backpack or tote.

The Details: 9 x 4.75 inches | Full grain leather | RFID blocking

Best Travel Tech Organizer

Calpak tech organizer.

Calpak

Its soft design makes it easy to pack inside any bag or suitcase.

Be careful not to pack overly bulky items inside of the retention bands, or they may lose elasticity.

Who said tech organizers need to look monotonous? This one by Calpak is slim, light, and available in a multitude of colors and patterns, making it easy to spot and pluck from inside your bag when you need to reach for any tech essentials. Its clamshell design is also extremely convenient, putting all your items on display for you once you zip the organizer open. Its built-in padding and storage pockets keep your valuables snug and secure, and its soft design makes it easy to pack away without the bulk.

The top handle also makes it easy to grab and carry, and all three full-size storage pockets feature convenient pull-tab zippers, with two having front mesh fabric for easy content assessment. During tests , the two interior slip pockets proved spacious enough to accommodate a portable charging bank, and we appreciated the effectiveness of the four elastic retention bands in keeping cords separated, snug, and readily accessible. It's worth mentioning that these bands may stretch out over time, especially if used with very thick or bulky cords.

The Details: 9.5 x 7 x 1.5 inches | 0.25 pounds | Polyester, polyethylene

Best Travel Jewelry Organizer

Cuyana travel jewelry case.

The small, attractive organizer is the perfect size for a shorter getaway.

We wish there were specific latches for necklaces and bracelets.

This deceptively spacious case by Cuyana fits more than it leads on to at first glance, which is why we gave it the top spot on our list of the best travel jewelry organizers . The attractive oval-shaped design is far from bulky, helping it to easily fit inside our carry-on bag and keep our favorite jewelry safe during our travels. It’s a great pick for minimalist jewelry wearers considering it is still on the smaller side, but it has plenty of room inside its soft, padded interior for rings, earrings, and more. Slip pockets on each side of the case could be a great fit for jewelry or small watches, but run the risk of getting tangled since there aren’t specific latches to hold them tight.

The Details: 5 in. x 3.5 x 1.25 inches | Italian leather

It allows the bag to lay out nearly flat, providing you with easy visual access to everything you have packed inside. Made from extremely durable RipStop nylon, the case will keep your gear safe within its sturdy walls, and it includes both a hand strap and sturdy shoulder strap if you decide to carry it on its own, rather than fit it into a larger suitcase. Hook and loop dividers allow you to easily change the size of the interior pockets depending on your needs at any time, making it easy to pack in and organize anything from bulkier items like blow dryers and straighteners to grooming scissors, hair ties and more. The center divider ensures that your tools on both sides of the organizer stay in their place, rather than banging into each other while you make your way from point A to point B.

The Details: 16 x 13 x 6.5 inches | RipStop nylon

They’re a bit pricey.

These refillable travel bottles are stylish and durable alternatives to what you’d typically find at your local drugstore. Crafted from a recycled plastic resin that is FDA-approved and safe for skin and hair, we like that there are not only different sizes available but also several colors to pick from, such as sky blue, dark brown, or tan.

Their very own patented airless pump makes it easy and sanitary to access your products, from shampoo and conditioner to face lotion, serums, and more. This removes the need to open the container and introduce the product to potential bacteria or the threat of oxidation.

Tips for Buying Travel Organizers

Consider what you’re packing.

Before investing in travel organizers, it's essential to take a thoughtful inventory of what you own and carefully consider your packing habits. Understanding the types and sizes of items you typically carry in your luggage will help you choose organizers that best suit your needs.

Consider the variety of belongings you travel with, from clothing and accessories to gadgets and toiletries, and assess the dimensions of your luggage. This necessary evaluation ensures that the organizers you select will align with your packing style and the available space in your bags. By taking stock of your possessions and packing preferences, you can make the best decisions about the types and sizes of organizers that will maximize efficiency and keep your belongings neatly arranged during your travels.

Opt for high-quality materials

Another crucial factor that demands your consideration when it comes to travel organizers is materiality. The choice of material significantly influences the organizers' durability, weight, and flexibility. Make sure to assess your specific needs and preferences before selecting between options like lightweight fabrics for easy maneuverability, or sturdier materials if you have delicate or especially pricey belongings.

Water-resistant or waterproof materials may be essential for those venturing somewhere rainy or rugged, helping them to safeguard the contents of their luggage from unexpected weather conditions. Investing in organizers that have high-quality zippers (we’re partial to YKK), handles, and seams can provide longevity to your organizers — making them a smarter investment than those that are merely attractive or lower in price.

Prioritize additional built-in organization

Finally, before purchasing your travel organizers, make sure to assess which ones have the correct quantity and type of interior compartments and dividers for the items you need to store. All organizers are designed with purposeful compartments and pockets, but only the ones that actually have the correct built-in storage potential will enhance efficiency and accessibility during your journeys. Looking at the number of pockets and pouches on an organizer prior to purchase, and where on the organizer they are located, will help save you time and money in the long run.

Likely, yes. Travel organizers can significantly enhance your travel experience by keeping your belongings neatly arranged and easily accessible. They help prevent the frustration of rummaging through a disorganized suitcase, saving you time and effort during packing and unpacking. With dedicated compartments for various items, travel organizers not only maximize space but also contribute to a more efficient and enjoyable journey, making them a valuable addition to any traveler's toolkit.

It depends on what kind of suitcase you’re using. Pack your luggage organizers strategically to maximize their effectiveness. For example, consider placing smaller organizers within the mesh pockets or other dedicated compartments of your suitcase for easy access to essentials like toiletries or chargers. Make sure you’re packing toiletry bags in your checked luggage if they have liquids containers over 3.4 ounces. Jewelry organizers and other high value items should usually stay with you in your carry-on. For larger organizers, such as packing cubes, position them within the main compartment to keep clothing neatly organized and prevent excessive shifting during travel.

The Vines x Montalcino

Pulling a prized bottle of, say, a 2018 Dalla Valle Cabernet Sauvignon out of the cellar to relish with friends can be thrilling. But think about the bragging rights of pouring your own blend, which you personally crafted at a famed winery in the heart of Tuscany or in the hills of Argentina.

Over three or four days you’ll stroll vineyards, gain inside knowledge about the craft, inhale the enchanting aromas inside renowned barrel rooms and sip treasured wines. Members also have the option of creating their own personal barrel (25 cases, priced from $6,000-$40,000), which will be bottled, adorned with a bespoke label and shipped to your home after maturation. Intimate and masterfully executed, these “Blending Escapes” are the pinnacle of wine-tasting bliss for any oenophile.

“Through The Vines, we share winemaking experiences with others who are passionate about wine and the cultural and travel experiences that accompany it,” founder and CEO Michael Evans tells THR . “Drinking wines from a region, with the people who make them, and enjoying the unique foods of each locale is an unparalleled experience.”

Studded with culturally rich activities designed to deeply connect members with each region thanks to the meaningful relationships Evans and his team have cultivated, excursions are carefully curated. In addition to the deep dive with winemakers, expect dinners at off-the-beaten path cafés and trattorias, bountiful lunches set on sprawling vineyards, cooking classes with revered chefs, and gatherings with resident authors and artists.

Current destinations where members can globetrot and vine hop include: Priorat, Spain; Mosel, Germany; the Champagne and Burgundy regions of France; Mendoza, Argentina; Oregon’s Willamette Valley; Duoro Valley, Portugal; Napa Valley; Sicily; and Piemonte, Italy.

South Africa, Bordeaux and Georgia in Eastern Europe are currently being plotted for 2025. Plenty of scintillating activities are forthcoming as well, to include truffle hunting in Tuscany, clamming on the Oregon coast, and making one’s own perfume in Spain.

Those who are yearning to delve further into the terroir and grow their own grapes, literally, have the option to purchase an acre of mature vineyards in Argentina at The Vines of Mendoza for $120,000, plus additional farming fees. “Winemaking is a la carte and starts at $4 per bottle,” says Evans, who also owns The Vines Resort & Spa , the private vineyard’s sleek retreat delivering majestic views of the Andes Mountains and surrounding vines.

It comes in a single color, and it's great for those who want a simple, high-quality kit for less.

Despite its slight dimensions, there's still a built-in kickstand for a seamless hands-free experience. While the ROG Ally case won't add a lot of protection in case of a fall, it'll safeguard the display and the main components from damage.

Skull & Co Gripcase for ROG Ally

If you need a case that protects and elevates your gaming experience, the Skull & Co Gripcase might be a product worth considering. It adds textured grips to increase friction for a better gaming experience and a stand that'll help it sit firmly on a tabletop. It's soft, has an improved shoulder design, and is precisely tailored to the ROG Ally's dimensions.

Cases play an important, protective role for our gadgets, like the ROG Ally. To keep this handheld gaming device safe, the Spigen Rugged Armor is the best option. The case is made from a shock-absorbing material that protects the device from drops, scuffs, and other accidental damage. It has sleek carbon fiber detailing and an adjustable wrist strap for an even more comfortable hold for long gaming sessions.

If all you need is a carrying case that has a precise fit and that keeps the essentials on hand, the Tomtoc carrying case is worth considering. It’s made of premium materials, features a lightweight, slim design, and has some onboard storage for SD cards and more. The case even comes with a 12-month worry-free warranty.

Buying multiple accessories can be costly; those seeking an excellent all-in-one accessory bundle will love the Encased accessories kit for the ROG Ally. The kit comes with a hard-shell carry case, a standard slim case with a kickstand, and a tempered glass screen protector. It costs less than many other cases and bags on this list, providing excellent value for your hard-earned cash.

You don’t ‘hike’ Fiery Furnace, Utah’s exclusive maze of slot canyons. You get lost in it

Two people walk in a canyon of red rock.

“Is that the trail?” I asked Steve, my longtime adventuring buddy. Not out of frustration or worry. I was more amazed at how this trail was marked, which is hardly at all. So you know, Steve has led me off trail only once in 10 years along dozens of hikes. He’s that good as a navigator.

“Matt — any idea?” I asked my other friend, who was head down in his GPS app, trying to decipher the snaking mess that was our location against the supposed “trail.”

A map of a hiking route in Fiery Furnace.

Before I move on, you need to understand that GPS works only within 10 feet of your actual position, which is pretty amazing for triangulating satellites that are thousands of miles away. But not quite amazing enough for those afraid of getting lost on one of the most exclusive hikes in America: Utah’s Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park. One wrong step here, and you’ll be backtracking, head scratching and disorientingly wondering whether you’ll ever find the trail again in this maze of red rock, slot canyons, towering arches, divisive fins, giant spires and blue skies.

And that’s the fun of it. Here’s what you need to know — what I wish I’d known — before visiting this mostly safe and contained playground for an afternoon or more.

Utah’s Fiery Furnace is a 30-minute drive from Moab, Utah. It’s one of the only protected wilderness areas in the national park system. Open to only 75 people a day (and no reservations longer than seven days out), it’s also one of the hardest park permits to score. Compared to other hikes, Fiery Furnace is more of a moonshot when it comes to crossing its Martian terrain. “Everyone but the park rangers get lost,” our guide told us during a pre-hike orientation. “Not even GPS will save you, so it’s best just to meander and go with the flow.”

She was right about all but one thing: Although GPS tracking in the popular AllTrails app spectacularly failed to keep us on path, it did help us get out eventually so we could make it to our next hike in Arches. But if I could have a redo, I would have accepted the guide’s advice and planed for more time and mindless wandering in this special place among an already special southern Utah.

Towering red rocks at Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park.

Speaking of the orientation, it’s mandatory. After picking up your $10 permit, you’re required to enter a small conference room and watch a 10-minute video about what the hike demands in terms of water, following the so-called trails and complying with the strict environmental and preservation regulations. You’ll even be verbally tested on what you watched, and the rangers won’t let you leave until you get the answers right.

After that, you’re on your own. Literally and figuratively.

Travel & Experiences

2 weeks, 11 national parks, 3,350 miles: Savor the Southwest on the Grand Circle road trip

Zion, Mesa Verde, Arches, Grand Canyon and Joshua Tree all in one epic journey? We did it. Here’s how it played out.

Sept. 28, 2023

During our hike, our party of three encountered just three other groups in the three hours we were inside. We jokingly exchanged pleasantries and accepted that none of us knew where we were going. But we did offer helpful tips of where we had been. “There’s a cool arch back there… Watch out for the giant gap ahead… Stay to the left or you’ll dead-end at a cliff.”

I say Fiery Furnace is mostly safe because I had to jump a gap and nearly tripped into what would have been severe injury some 20 to 30 feet below. Whoops. It’s not necessarily a physically demanding or overly technical experience. But parts of the furnace are tricky, and I wouldn’t advise anyone in poor shape to go inside. But able adults and sure-footed children regularly make their way through. For everyone else, there’s a stunning view of the furnace from the oncoming road and official viewpoint.

Scenes from freelance writer Blake Snow's trip to the Fiery Furnace canyon in Arches National Park, Utah.

Three smiling people make hand gestures at Fiery Furnace.

While hiking the furnace, you can expect several arches, a sea of balancing rocks and mushroom like toadstools, massive cliff walls, incredibly tight slot canyons, layers upon layers of sandstone fins that divide the landscape and even a few open spaces. There are deep canyons, dead ends, sweeping vistas of distant formations elsewhere in the park, and a deafening amount of silence.

My friends and I lunched in the spring shade of Surprise Arch, a natural stone arch sandwiched between two massive rock walls. I have no idea how it or any of us got here. But there we were, dining al fresco in this otherworldly place.

May 7, 2021

If venturing the unknown of Fiery Furnace all alone doesn’t appeal to you, park rangers offer guided tours several times a day to permitted guests.

For the lucky few who enter Fiery Furnace, my advice is this: Get rid of your GPS — at least until you’re ready to leave. Plan for a few extra hours inside, if not an entire day. Meander. Get lost. By all means hike — but don’t expect your average point to point or loop trail. You probably won’t see the whole area, and that’s a good thing. There’s reason to return and have an experience that’s entirely new.

The ranger was right. Just go inside and enjoy the view.
