12 awesome safari features you should be using on iphone.

Safari is your iPhone's default web browser, and it's full of features and tricks you might not know about.

Quick Links

Icloud private relay, safari extensions, advanced privacy features, reader mode, the "website settings" menu, reading list, tab groups (and shortcuts), private browsing (and shortcuts), "add to home screen" web apps, autofill and apple pay, and lastly... duckduckgo, more safari tips.

Apple's mobile browser is packed with features. They make it easier to track and read online content, protect your privacy, and keep things organized. Here's a list of the best features that all iPhone owners need to know about.

Apple launched the iCloud Private Relay beta in 2021, as a way of anonymizing web traffic in the Safari browser. You can use iCloud Private Relay if you pay for any tier of iCloud (known as an iCloud+ subscription ) or use Apple One .

Private Relay isn't a VPN, and you can't use both a VPN and iCloud Private Relay at the same time. The service works by sending web requests over two hops: the first (operated by Apple) can see your IP address but encrypts your request and DNS records, while the second (operated by a third party) assigns a random IP address and decrypts your web request.

The idea is that neither Apple nor the third party can connect the dots and know who is visiting a specific website. The service has had its hiccups with unclear error messages , unscheduled downtime , and some carriers taking a dislike to the service . But it works as advertised most of the time, so it's worth turning on if you're concerned about privacy.

Enable iCloud Private Relay (or turn it off) by launching the Settings app and tapping on your name at the top of the screen. From here navigate to iCloud > iCloud Private Relay and enable the service.

Safari gained the ability to use extensions with the arrival of iOS 15. This allows you to vastly expand the capabilities of Apple's browser with third-party add-ons, though you'll need to go through Apple's channels to do so.

You'll find Safari extensions in the App Store. Launch the App Store app then tap on "Apps" at the bottom of the screen. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the "Safari Extensions" category under Top Categories (tap "See All" if it's not visible). From here you can install extensions just as you would any other app.

Many apps are bundled with Safari extensions (just like Apple Watch apps and Home screen widgets ). You can enable or disable these under Settings > Safari > Extensions. This includes content blockers (for blocking online advertisements and trackers) plus regular extensions that expand on the browser's core functionality.

We've put together a list of our favorite Safari for iPhone and iPad extensions , which allow you to do things like enable picture-in-picture video anywhere, disable Google AMP webpages , and bring dark mode to websites that don't explicitly support it.

Safari has a few privacy settings that you may have already enabled, but it's worth checking they're on if you're concerned about online privacy. Head to Settings > Safari and scroll down to the "Privacy & Security" section.

You can enable "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking" to block advertisers and their cookies from tracking you across the web. This, in theory, prevents advertisers from building up a profile of you based on the websites you visit. Safari was the first mainstream browser to block third-party cookies by default.

You can also enable " Hide IP Address " if you're using iCloud Private Relay to prevent both trackers and websites from seeing this information. This feature attempts to foil advertisers' attempts to profile you based on your IP.

You can also disable "Privacy Preserving Ad Measurement" (which is on by default) to further limit tracking. While the feature may sound like something you should leave on, it's a way of sharing information with advertisers about your interactions in a "private" way.

You can enable Reader mode on most websites by tapping and holding the "AA" button to the left of a website URL in Safari's Address bar. You can also tap this button and then choose "Show Reader" if you'd rather do it in two taps. When you do this, Safari will strip out everything except the content on the webpage and present it to you in a customizable format.

This is great for several reasons. To start with, it eliminates irritating advertisements (including ones that refresh while you're trying to read, shifting the content up and down the page). It also strips out formatting or website styles that may make it harder to read, like odd font choices and distracting colors.

You can customize Reader by tapping on the "AA" icon in the URL bar and choosing a font, background color, and text size using the small and large "A" buttons. To exit Reader, choose "Hide Reader" from this menu or long-press the "AA" button again. By choosing a dark background you can read websites in the dark without being blinded, a must-have for late-night long reads in bed.

It's an accessibility feature as much as it is a convenience, and Safari will remember your Reader settings until the next time you use it.

If you tap on the "AA" button in the website URL bar (while visiting a website) you will see a "Website Settings" option. Tap on it and you can force Reader every time using the "Use Reader Automatically" or always request the desktop version of a website using the "Request Desktop Website" toggle.

These are useful if you always find yourself using Reader (to get around annoying adverts) or avoiding a particular mobile website due to its limited functionality. Reader should only kick in on pages that make sense, so for example a website's home page which has no content beyond headlines should function as normal while tapping through to an article will trigger Reader mode for you.

You can also preempt any Camera, Microphone, and Location access prompts by always allowing or outright denying a particular website access to these permissions. Safari will remember your settings for each website. To make changes to these settings, head to Settings > Safari and scroll down to the "Settings for Websites" section.

Sometimes you might visit a website or be sent a link to an interesting article that you simply don't have time to read right now. It might even be a product website you want to explore, or a video hosted somewhere online. This is where Reading List comes in, allowing you to save websites for later.

You can access the "Add to Reading List" option via the long-press menus that pop up when you hold your finger down on a link. This could be in Safari on a webpage, in a Messages window, and via the Share sheet in apps like Twitter. You can also use the Share button in Safari to access this option while the web page is open.

You'll find all of these links accessible within Safari by tapping on the "Bookmarks" button in the bar at the bottom of the screen, then tapping on the Reading List tab (it looks like a pair of glasses). If you have a Mac or an iPad, your Reading List will sync between devices.

Keeping tabs organized can be a real drag if you aren't using Safari's grouping features. This allows you to create labeled groups for tabs so you can recall and dismiss browsing sessions on demand.

To set up your groups, launch Safari then tap on the tab view button in the bottom-right corner of the screen to display all of your tabs. From here, tap on the label at the bottom of the screen, it will say something like "10 Tabs" (depending on how many you have open).

Now you can create a new empty tab group, or create a new tab group with all open tabs. Your main browsing session can be found at the top of this list, just above the "Private" label. Add a tab to a group by long-pressing the tab view button in the bottom-right corner of Safari. You can also move tabs en-masse to a new or existing tab group .

Private browsing has many uses, the most obvious being not leaving a trail of websites you've visited in your history, cookies, or website data. But the feature is also useful for starting new sessions with websites that may have profiled you, like when you're limited to five free articles on a news website and you've reached your limit.

You can access a private browsing session under the tab view button in the bottom-right corner of Safari. You can also quickly switch to and from your "Private" session by long-pressing this button. From your home screen, tap and hold Safari then choose "New Private Tab" to jump straight to a new tab in your "Private" session.

Do you use any websites like a web app? Some services, like Xbox Cloud Gaming, must be launched in a browser window and Safari's "Add to Home" option provides the most elegant method of doing so. Many websites function as if they were standalone apps, occupying a slot in the iPhone multitasker and lacking Safari's UI.

Others operate as simple bookmarks you can launch from your home screen , which might not be to everyone's taste but can be handy nonetheless.

You can speed up your checkout process by configuring your AutoFill settings under Settings > Safari > AutoFill. Here you can nominate your personal Contact entry in your address book to pull in information like your address and other contact details, making it easier to complete purchases.

You can also use this menu to save your credit card information via the "Saved Credit Cards" option . Here you can add a new card, as well as get rid of any old ones that may have expired or been canceled.

Finally, there's Apple Pay which will appear on supported websites . This allows you to check out in record time, letting you nominate a delivery address, shipping option, and contact details all from one tidy pop-up window. Head to Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay to add your card and get started.

Being able to change your default search engine might not seem like a knockout feature, but there are all sorts of reasons to switch to DuckDuckGo . Not only does the search engine respect your privacy far more than Google, but it also lets you use "bangs" to limit your search to certain services (or even jump straight to Google if you need it).

You can change your iPhone's default search engine to DuckDuckGo under Settings > Safari > Search Engine.

Safari is packed full of features that can make your life easier. With an iPhone or iPad running a modern version of Safari you can  download files , force your browser to ignore apps , store and access passwords , and block pop-up windows .

Safari's Massive Upgrade Comes with Over 18 New Features for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Safari's massive upgrade in Apple's latest iPhone software update includes new features you won't find in any other web browsers on iOS, from better ways to stay organized to enhanced security and further privacy protections.

Apple's latest Safari improvements make web browsing more efficient, secure, and private, and those really are the three key elements of this year's big update. All of the features listed below apply to Safari 17 on iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 , and most also work similarly on macOS 14 Sonoma 's updated Safari experience.

  • Don't Miss: There Are 18 New Features Hiding in Your iPhone's Camera App on iOS 17

1. Use Safari Profiles for Isolated Browsing Activity

If you've ever found yourself switching between work-related sites and personal interests, Safari Profiles is the game changer you've been waiting for. It's a tailor-made browsing experience that brings organization to the next level.

At its core, each profile acts as a unique browsing environment. This means you can have a work profile with only work-related cookies, history, and website data, and your personal profile's cookies, history, and website data would be separate. Extensions can be turned on or off per profile, as well as Web Push notifications for websites, and each profile can have its own favorites folder for bookmarks on its own start page for new tabs.

You can have as many profiles as you need (hobbies, games, school, etc.), profiles sync to other devices using the same Apple ID, and they work across iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma. You can even have different profiles for family members or friends using the same device to isolate everyone's browsing activity. It's not 100% private since there are no locks for profiles, but it can at least keep things separate.

See our guide on using Safari Profiles to learn more, including how to set them up, manage them, delete them, and more.

2. Open Different Links in Different Safari Profiles

When viewing a webpage in Safari on iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, you can tap the page settings button ("AA"), followed by "Website Settings," to see a new option to open links from the specific website you're on in a particular profile. Tap "Open Links in Profile," then choose the profile; the default is "Most Recent Profile."

Safari's Massive Upgrade Comes with Over 18 New Features for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

You will also see a new "Profiles" option in Settings –> Safari under the "Settings for Websites" section. Tap that, and you'll see all the websites you set links to open in specific profiles. Tap a domain name, and you can change the profile links open in. You can also tap "Edit" at the top to bulk delete link-opening preferences or "Clear All Settings."

3. Lock Private Browsing Mode Behind Biometrics

All your secret, tucked-away Safari tabs in Private Browsing mode are more protected in Apple's latest software update. From now on, you must unlock your private tabs in Safari using Face ID or Touch ID authentication on iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma. This change makes Private Browsing mode even more private.

If you've ever been concerned about handing over your unlocked iPhone, iPad, or Mac to someone else, this update — along with last year's biometric authentication for Hidden Albums in Photos — may offer you some peace of mind. Face ID or Touch ID will deny anyone attempting to open your Private Browsing tabs access unless they happen to know your device's passcode or password.

If you ever wish to disable this additional security feature on iPhone or iPad, go to Settings –> Safari –> Privacy & Security and toggle off "Require Face ID [or Touch ID] to Unlock Private Browsing." You must confirm the action with Face ID or Touch ID or your passcode to successfully turn it off.

Safari's Massive Upgrade Comes with Over 18 New Features for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

On macOS Sonoma, disabling the feature works a bit differently. In Safari, open "Settings" in the menu bar, go to the "Privacy" tab, and uncheck the "Require Touch ID to view locked tabs" or "Require password to view locked tabs."

4. Switch Between Tab Groups Faster

On iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, you could quickly access Private Browsing and Tab Groups in Safari by long-pressing the tabs icon in the toolbar and selecting "New Private Tab" or the appropriate Tab Group name. However, many users would just tap the tabs icon, so they'd have to tap the current Tab Group at the bottom to open the menu to switch between your personal, private, and grouped tabs.

Apple addresses this with iOS 17 and iPadOS 17. When you tap the tabs icon now, you'll see a bar with Private Browsing and your current profile's Tab Groups. Simply swipe left or right on the bar until you land on your desired spot. If the tab is in another profile, tap the profile icon and switch to that profile first.

5. Change Private Browsing's Search Engine

We've been able to switch Safari's default search engine for a while now, but iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma also allow you to customize your search engine preference for Private Browsing .

This is useful if you want to up the privacy level even more in Private Browsing by selecting one dedicated to user privacy, such as DuckDuckGo, which does not build user profiles and aims to prevent online tracking.

To change your search engine for private tabs, go to Settings –> Safari –> Private Search Engine, then choose the one you want. On macOS Sonoma, open "Settings" in Safari's menu bar, go to the "Search" tab, and click the browser next to "Private Browsing search engine."

  • Full Guide: Safari's Private Browsing Mode Gives You Search Engine Choices

You'll see the same choices for Private Browsing as for regular browsing, and there's another option for "Use Default Search Engine." As you can see below, I have Google, Yahoo, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Ecosia, as well as non-English choices of Baidu, Sogou, Yandex, and 360 Search. You may see fewer or more options here based on the different preferred languages you have installed for your device.

6. Browse Without Being Watched

Another new privacy-related upgrade in Safari 17 is more advanced tracking and fingerprinting protection in Private Browsing mode. Now, Safari can block known trackers and tracking parameters from URLs that websites often append to links to monitor your movements across the web and build profiles on you. According to Apple's list of new WebKit technologies in Safari 17, the privacy upgrade includes:

  • Blocking for known trackers and fingerprinting.
  • Blocking for known tracking query parameters in links.
  • Noise to fingerprintable web APIs.
  • Console log messages when blocking requests to known trackers.
  • Support for mitigating trackers that map subdomains to third-party IP addresses.
  • Support for blocking trackers that use third-party CNAME cloaking.
  • Support for Private Click Measurement for direct response advertising, similar to how it works for in-app direct response advertising .

So Safari can block more known tracking resources than before in Private Browsing, and its Link Tracking Protection can remove user-identifiable URL tracking parameters in certain links. For example, the following link shows the click ID:

But Safari would strip the click ID when browsing to the webpage or when copying the link, as seen below.

It's an improvement in privacy, but it's not going to stop all marketing companies as there are ways to bypass parameter removals . And it's only enabled for Privacy Browsing mode by default. However, you can make it apply across all of Safari by going to Settings –> Safari –> Advanced –> Advanced Tracking and Fingerprint Protection, then choosing "All Browsing."

Safari's Massive Upgrade Comes with Over 18 New Features for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

On macOS Sonoma, open "Settings" in Safari's menu bar, go to the "Advanced" tab, click "in Private Browsing" next to "Use advanced tracking and fingerprinting protection," and change it to "in all browsing."

7. Search Faster

Search is faster and more responsive in Safari 17. While Safari wasn't exactly slow with suggestions before, you'll definitely notice the speed increase when performing searches in the browser.

8. Get More Relevant Suggestions in Search

When you perform a search in Safari 17, you'll also notice that the results are easier to read and offer more relevant search suggestions. There are some noticeable visual changes and layout shifting as well, giving you a more functional, efficient presentation.

9. Use or Disable Extensions in Private Browsing Mode

In a move that underscores Apple's relentless commitment to privacy, Safari 17 takes an extra precaution in Safari's Private Browsing mode by automatically disabling extensions . Depending on your expectations of Private Browsing mode, this new feature may seem slightly inconvenient or feel like something Safari should have implemented from the beginning.

Turning off extensions in Private Browsing may seem like a small change. Still, it adds an additional layer of assurance that your online activities remain your own, unhindered by potential vulnerabilities that might be introduced through third-party extensions.

If you really need specific extensions to work in Private Browsing, visit Settings –> Safari –> Extensions on iOS 17 or iPadOS 17, then tap the extension you want to enable. If the extension is completely disabled, you won't be able to activate it for Private Browsing. When the extension is enabled for your "Personal" profile , you'll see a "Private Browsing" switch. Turn it on, and that extension will be available when browsing incognito.

  • More Info: Safari's Private Browsing Mode Lets You Customize Extensions

You'll also find this option on macOS. Open "Settings" in Safari's menu bar, go to the "Extensions" tab, select the extension you want, and enable it for Private Browsing.

10. Make Safari Read Articles to You Out Loud

When you have tired eyes but a mind hungry for content, use Safari 17's new page-reading tool. Whenever you stumble across an intriguing article but can't read it at the moment or aren't in the mood to read it at all, your device can read it out loud for you — and it's much easier to use and more accurate than the Speak Screen accessibility tool you'd have to rely on before.

To use it on an iPhone or iPad, tap the page settings icon ("AA") in the address bar for any webpage that supports Reader View , then select the new "Listen to Page" option. Your device will start reading, intelligently speaking only the text in the article and not any unnecessary content in buttons, ads, dates, etc. You may need to raise the volume if you don't hear it right away.

Tap the page settings button again, which will show a speaker icon instead of "AA" while actively listening to a page, and you'll see an option for "Listening Controls." Select that to get playback controls like pause, skip forward, and skip backward, as well as a "Speaking rate" option to change the spoken speed.

Safari's Massive Upgrade Comes with Over 18 New Features for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Whether you're on the go or settling down for the night, this feature turns your browser into a new-age reading assistant, allowing you to have content read to you when the webpage is rich with text.

11. View Your Reading List from the Home Screen

Safari gets its first widget with iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS 14 Sonoma. When adding widgets to your Home Screen, Today View, or Notification Center, scroll to and select "Safari," then choose between the small, medium, or large "Reading List" widget. With it, you can easily access the most recent webpages added to your Reading List without opening Safari first.

12. Stop Animated GIFs from Auto-Playing

GIFs can be a fun way to express emotions or share a laugh, but larger GIF files can slow a webpage down considerably. They can also be bothersome for users with cognitive disabilities and a distraction when trying to concentrate on something serious. Those are just a few reasons why iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma let you turn auto-playing GIFs off without having to rely on Low Power Mode .

This hidden gem does more than eliminate disturbances; it helps speed up your browsing experience, conserve battery, and save data. To try it on iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, navigate to Settings –> Accessibility –> Motion, and turn off the toggle next to "Auto-Play Animated Images." Then, to play paused GIFs in Safari and in many other apps, tap the play button on them.

Safari's Massive Upgrade Comes with Over 18 New Features for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

On macOS Sonoma, you can pause auto-playing GIFs per website in Safari via Settings –> Settings for [website].

13. Autofill Emailed 2FA Verification Codes

When trying to log in to a website in Safari, the website may send you a two-factor authentication code that you'll have to enter to confirm it's you signing in. Before, Safari would detect and let you autofill SMS codes received in Messages without closing Safari. That way, you wouldn't have to open Messages, copy the code, open Safari again, and paste it in.

Now, Safari 17 will do the same thing with email verification codes from the Mail app. So there's no more leaving Safari to open Mail and hunt for the email.

14. Share Password Groups with Trusted Contacts

While iCloud Keychain is more of an iCloud feature, giving you quick access to passwords across the entire iOS and iPadOS system — including in Safari — it's more closely tied to Safari itself in macOS. So, a new iCloud Keychain feature is very applicable to Safari, and the newest one lets you share passwords and passkeys with trusted contacts in your address book.

On macOS Sonoma, you can start sharing passwords and passkeys with family, coworkers, and others directly in Safari via Safari –> Settings –> Passwords. You can also do it from System Settings –> Passwords. On iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, navigate to Settings –> Passwords.

Tap "Get Started" in the box for "Share Passwords with Family," read the quick information about it, and hit "Continue."

Safari's Massive Upgrade Comes with Over 18 New Features for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

If you're already a part of an iCloud family, you may see some of those people already included, but you can remove them if that's not who you want in the group. Tap "Add People" to do just that, rename the group name if necessary, and tap "Create" to save it.

You may see a notice that some of your devices are not updated to the latest software and therefore cannot see the Shared Password Groups. You'll need to update those devices to see password groups on them, but they won't prevent you from seeing password groups on already updated devices.

Next, select all the account credentials you want to move to the Shared Password Group and hit "Move."

Safari's Massive Upgrade Comes with Over 18 New Features for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

After that, you'll be asked to notify invited members, but it's not necessary for them to accept access. You can then access the Shared Password Group on the main Passwords view. You'll also see other Shared Password Groups if other people invited you to theirs.

Each person you share with can access, add to, and change the passwords, simplifying the process of logging into shared sites. Everything stays updated for everyone. This feature goes beyond Safari, making the entire password-sharing process seamless and secure without any compromise on the safety of your information.

15. Find Things More Quickly in Your Browsing History

Navigating through your browsing history just got visually richer on iPhone and iPad. Safari now displays website favicons in the history section for each of your profiles. Next to each result in the history, these tiny icons show off the logo, symbol, or other image the website uses to represent itself visually.

Aside from that, you can now expand and minimize dates and morning, afternoon, and evening segments of the most recent days to find what you're looking for more quickly. Previously, you would have to scroll down one long list, but now you just need to look for the correct time and reveal what's behind it.

16. Feature Flags Instead of Experimental Features

In a minor change to Safari's "Advanced" settings, the "Experimental Features" submenu is now called "Feature Flags." While typically used by developers and WebKit engineers, these options "give you access to new browser initiatives, upcoming web tools, element changes, behavior adjustments, and other preliminary feature tests in development by Apple."

17. New, Removed, and Renamed Feature Flags

If you're a developer or just somebody who wants to improve web browsing in Safari, you can test many of these feature flags on iOS 17 and iPadOS 17. The ones disabled by default are still being tested internally by Apple and may not work correctly or at all for developers and regular users. The ones enabled by default should work for anyone. The settings below indicate where the flag is or was on or off by default.

18. Other Safari Changes

  • There's a new description on iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 for the "Search" section in Settings –> Safari that says, "Private Browsing uses on-device information to provide search suggestions. No data is shared with the service provider."
  • As you could probably already tell from above, some of the privacy- and security-related settings moved from Settings –> Safari to Settings –> Safari –> Advanced on iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, including "Block All Cookies," "Privacy Preserving Ad Measurement," and "Check for Apple Pay."
  • On iOS 17, the option in the page settings button ("AA") for moving the address bar to the top or bottom is missing. Now it's only changed via Settings –> Safari –> Tabs.
  • Live Text now supports vertical text recognition in images and videos, though, it's still a bit rough.
  • Lockdown Mode in Safari now disables IndexedDB, the File API and FileReader API, support for the <embed> element, the Web Speech (Speech Synthesis) API, the WebLocks API, and support for experimental APIs, while also adding support for select web fonts.
  • Safari now supports JPEG XL, a new image format that provides a modern option for "finding the right balance between visual quality and file size," according to Apple.
  • Safari also now supports HEIC images, which can take up half the space of an equivalent JPEG file.
  • And it also now supports "AV1 video on devices with hardware decoding support, like iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max."

Safari is a popular web browser launched by Apple in 2003. In the past few years and through multiple upgrades, Safari has transformed into a power-packed, privacy-centric browser that aims to give you the best web experience in every session.

It's faster compared to many popular browsers such as Firefox and Chrome, is highly reliable, and comes with a million customization options that make you feel a little at home every time you log in. It might not be the top leader of the browser industry, but it surely has a massive user base of more than 1 billion people.

So if you’re planning to set Safari as your next default browser, read our guide till the end and find out what you can expect.

Safari browser: Features

Safari’s best-known feature is “Intelligent Tracking Prevention,” which protects you from online trackers. Such malicious software have countless ways to keep following you across the web. Thankfully, Safari’s dynamic system is not only capable of tackling their current tricks, but it can also adapt and counter any hack they might develop to steal your data.

If you’re working on multiple projects at the same time, grouping the tabs together might be an efficient way to work faster and reduce the clutter. You can also label these tab groups, with each category leading you to a certain set of sites. To take it a step further, you can also add Focus Modes to these Tab Groups. This way, when a user opens the Safari browser with a certain Focus active, only those tab groups that are attached to it will show up.

Safari’s intuitive auto-fill feature will save you tons of time. For starters, it connects to your passwords saved on iCloud or other third-party password managers and auto-fills while logging. It also extracts information from your Contacts, Calendars, Credit Card, and other saved documents to auto-fill empty fields of forms and registration pages on your behalf. For sensitive information such as credit card details and passwords, Safari uses a special 256-bit AES encryption.

Safari also helps you create stronger passwords the first time you’re signing up for an account. You can either opt for traditional passcodes with a combination of numbers, letters, and symbols or go for advanced face ID or touch ID for better security.

To minimize spamming from websites, Safari provides a unique feature called “Hide My Email” in collaboration with iCloud. Under this, instead of suggesting your actual email, it’ll suggest an alias to the website you’re signing into. This will help you recognize the spammers, and you can cut them off by simply deleting the alias email address.

Safari claims that it takes minimal battery power. Compared to Firefox and Chrome, Safari offers up to 3 hours of additional browsing and 4 hours of additional video streaming.

Safari browser: Privacy

Safari offers a decent level of privacy. It may not completely stop data collection from third parties, but it minimizes the transfer of user data to a great extent. On top of that, users get access to all its privacy settings by default, ensuring they’re protected from the get-go.

You can also modify the privacy settings if you want. For example, you can adjust how often you want your web history deleted or tell websites not to track your information, such as location or contact details.

We recommend adding a VPN to your arsenal, which, along with Safari, will prove to be the security you’ve always wanted on your device.

Safari browser customizations.

Safari browser: Ease of use

Safari is pretty easy to use. The address bar is at the top of the screen, and you’ll find the open tabs stacked right below it — much like Google Chrome.

What sets apart Safari’s user interface is options such as Bookmarks, History, and Edits are placed above the address bar.

Our favorite thing about its user settings is that it lets you get the complete overview of your tabs on a much higher level. If you have multiple tabs open at once, this feature lets you zoom out and check them all at once.

The only thing we didn't like about Safari was some of the features, such as Tab Grouping, were slightly hidden on its Mac Version. You’ll have to click on the Page Icon for a panel to appear before you can use the grouping feature.

Safari browser: Competitors

Safari’s biggest competitors are Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. But thanks to its features and outstanding performance, it’s not too far behind them in the race.

For starters, a speedometer test by Safari revealed that it's almost 1.4 times more responsive than Chrome and Firefox.

Another series of tests found that when the macOS is used for animation rendering and Javascript, Safari is 2 times and 1.4 times faster than Chrome and Firefox, respectively.

With such outstanding performance, it's no wonder that millions of users are flocking to Safari every year.

Another benefit of Safari is that it's lightweight and doesn't take up too much battery power. In fact, compared to other browsers, Safari gives you at least 3 to 4 hours of additional battery life.

Also, unlike Edge, Safari lets you pick and put any picture you want as the browser's background. While Edge and Chrome let you experiment with multiple themes, Safari goes a step ahead and lets you personalize it.

Managing tabs with Safari is easier than most browsers. You can group them together, label them for quick searches and attach them to a particular Focus Mode to reduce the crowd of tab groups. No other renowned browser offers this feature.

Safari browser: Final verdict

After our careful evaluation, we found Safari to be one of the best products Apple has ever launched. It's fast, responsive, and comes with tons of tab management features that make it easy for users to maintain an online workspace.

Compared to Chrome and Edge, Safari is much more serious about user privacy and data leaks. After all, it has developed a whole new technology (Intelligent Tracking Prevention) just to combat that.

It also comes pre-installed on every Apple device, be it an iPhone or Mac. If you’re a proud Apple device owner, there’s no reason you shouldn’t try Safari since there’s no trouble downloading and setting it up.

Try these 10 Safari features that every iPhone user should know! [Video]

Avatar for Fernando Silva

Apple announced that they officially have two billion active iPhone users globall y , which is an absurd amount of smartphones out in the wild. With each of those iPhones, whether you love it or hate it, they come pre-installed with Safari as the default browser. So if you have had an iPhone since 2007, that means that you have used Safari on an iPhone for over 15 years (unless you switched your browser). Most people are not aware of how much you can do within Safari; here are some features that I think every Safari user should know!

10 Safari features you wish you already knew [Video]

1. Moving the URL/address bar

When Apple released iOS 15, they added the ability to move the Safari address bar to the bottom of the display. The move was made for reachability and one-handed use, which makes complete sense, and it was a change that was made by default. That meant that everyone that updated to iOS 15 saw their address bar move. But as a long-time Safari user, I was not a fan of this change. Thankfully, Apple added an option in settings that allows you to move the address bar back to its rightful place

Settings > Safari > Tabs

2. Add any website to your home screen

If you have used the iPhone since the pre-app store days, like me, then you’ll know this feature well. Apple allows you to add a shortcut of a website to your home screen. This feature has been around since the very beginning – I remember when people would make web apps and you could save them to your home screen of your iPhone 3G to pretend they were native apps.

iOS 16 still allows for this if you need quick access to a certain webpage; what’s nice about it is that Apple hides the address bar, giving it the feel of an actual app. Try this with Instagram on your iPad, and you will know what I mean.

Safari > Share button > Add to homescreen

3. Search bar for your tabs

Did you know that if you scroll all the way to the top of your tabs, a search bar shows up? If you use 10s or 100s of tabs at once, going to your tabs menu and then scrolling to the top allows you to word-search your tabs.

4. Closing tabs based on time

You might be aware that you can set the automatic deletion of iMessages in your settings; so if you can have iMessage delete your messages after a year, you can do the same with your tabs. You can set your tabs to delete on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis from the settings menu.

Settings > Safari > Close Tabs > Select time

5. Customize your Safari start page

When you open up Safari and have a fresh start page, there is some info that gets shown to you, like recently visited, security info, and more. There is a way to customize your homepage with not only the information shown but also the background image. If you scroll to the bottom of a fresh Safari page, there is an edit button that allows you to change the order of the information shown as well as change the background image

Start a fresh Safari page > Scroll to the bottom > Tap edit > Choose background image

Strong security protections in Safari help keep you safe. Passkeys introduce a safer way to sign in. iCloud Keychain securely stores and autofills passkeys and passwords across all your devices. Safari also notifies you when it encounters suspicious websites and prevents them from loading. Because it loads each web page in a separate process, any harmful code is always confined to a single browser tab so it won’t crash the entire application or access your data. And Safari automatically upgrades sites from HTTP to the more secure HTTPS when available.

Passkeys introduce a more secure and easier way to sign in. No passwords required.

Passkeys are end-to-end encrypted and safe from phishing and data leaks, and they are stronger than all common two-factor authentication types. Thanks to iCloud Keychain, they work across all your Apple devices, and they even work on non-Apple devices.

5 Features in Safari for Mac That Boost Privacy and Security

If you use Safari, you should know about these features that keep your data safe and secure online.

When you’re browsing the internet, it’s easy to forget about safety and privacy issues. You might not always think about how much personal information you’re sharing, or how often you use the same passwords on different sites.

If you use Safari on a Mac computer, it’s actually OK to forget this a bit, because the browser handles some of this for you.

Safari is chock-full of features that keep your data private and your web experience extremely safe. We’re here to tell you all about these, so you can make sure you’re using them smartly.

Safari Features to Protect Your Privacy

Websites love to track users to learn more about them, then market to people effectively by showing them personalized ads. This can be fairly innocuous, but the data accumulated on you can reveal where you live, how old you are, and other information you may not want everyone to know.

How websites do this, as well as when and where the tracking takes place, can be pretty tricky to spot. We’ve written about different ways to check who is tracking you online , which can help you get a clearer picture of online privacy.

But Safari also has many built-in features that help you keep your browsing data to yourself. You can thus better maintain your privacy just by using Safari as your browser and making sure certain settings are turned on in it.

1. Safari's Intelligent Tracking Prevention

One of these features is the Intelligent Tracking Prevention built into Safari. Through machine learning, the browser spots where websites and companies obtain user data, then blocks that data from carrying over onto other sites.

This means any information obtained about you on one site can’t be spread all over the internet. Your data and personal information stay limited to individual sites.

The tracker also minimizes third parties from accessing any data Apple collects on you as a user. And you have a say over how much data Apple can collect from you when you use its devices and software. You can request your personal data from Apple to see how much the company accesses, and alter how much information apps send back to Apple.

The privacy tracker is automatically enabled in the latest versions of Safari. If you want to check that it is, or alter its behavior, head to Safari > Preferences and click on the Privacy tab. Make sure the Prevent cross-site tracking box is checked to keep the protection activated.

2. Privacy Reports in the Smart Search Field

The privacy reports in the Smart Search field at the top of Safari are another feature keeping your information private. The Smart Search field is the address bar in Safari. It’s where you type in or paste URLs to access websites.

And like address bars in most modern browsers, you can also enter text to search the web using your preferred search engine, chosen at Safari > Preferences > Search . Consider choosing a privacy-focused search engine to reduce data collection as you search.

Aside from URL-related suggestions, the search field has a major privacy feature. It can tell you if anything is trying to track your data when you’re on a particular site. This also lets you know if that entity was blocked from getting the information or not.

This information is found in the privacy report. Privacy reports can tell you about active trackers on sites you’re currently browsing, as well as trackers that have been blocked in the past.

To get a privacy report on active trackers, open a website in Safari. Then, click on the shield icon to the left of the Smart Search field. You’ll see a list of any trackers found on the site.

To see a history of data trackers Safari has blocked, and what sites they’ve been on, click on Safari > Privacy Report . You’ll see how many trackers Safari successfully blocked in the last 30 days, the percentage of websites you went to that contacted trackers, and more information you can use to help keep your data private in the future.

3. Private Browsing Windows

Safari also allows you to browse the internet using Private Browsing windows . Private Browsing windows work as default Safari windows do, except they hide even more information from websites and data trackers.

In a Private Browsing window, no search or website information is saved—any sites you visit or terms you search in these windows won’t appear in your Safari history. Autofill information isn’t saved, and webpages can’t be shared or accessed via iCloud or Handoff.

Any data you create while browsing in one private tab won’t affected or be accessible to other private tabs or windows you keep open. This means that even if you log into Facebook in one private tab, you’d have to log in again if you opened Facebook in a second private tab. So you deal with even less tracking than Intelligent Tracking Prevention on its own.

Related: Ways You Can Be Tracked in Incognito or Private Browsing Mode

To open a Private Browsing window in Safari, click on File > New Private Window . If you want Safari to default to private windows, go to Safari > Preferences > General . In the Safari opens with dropdown menu, select A new private window .

Safari Features for Better Security

In addition to keeping your information private, Safari also keeps you safe from hackers and malware as you browse the internet.

4. Safari's Password Manager

One of its major security features is its built-in password manager. Like other password managers, there are some steps to complete before you start using it fully. But Safari will safely save passwords for you as you use them on different websites.

Read more: How to Start Using a Password Manager

Those passwords only auto-fill when you log in with your credentials. On Mac computers with Touch ID, your fingerprint can protect autofill for your usernames and passwords. This means not just anyone can log in to your email, social media, or banking sites.

To see your passwords without auto-filling them, you can go to Safari > Preferences > Passwords . Here, you need to input your Touch ID fingerprint or enter your computer password.

In your Safari password list, you can see if any passwords have been compromised or exposed, as long as have the Detect passwords compromised by known data leaks box checked.

If your passwords have appeared around the web, Safari will show a yellow triangle icon that has an exclamation point in it to the right of the password. Seeing this icon usually means you should change that password, which you can do on your account page for the website. Safari will then update its password manager to match.

Safari’s password manager can also help you create strong passwords. Whenever you sign up for a new website, Safari will offer to create and store a super-strong password that’s near-impossible to guess.

If you’re worried about not being able to make strong passwords on your own , this is a fantastic option that keeps your internet experiences safe and secure. And with iCloud, these strong passwords are easy to pass on to iPhone and iPad. Touch ID and Face ID ensure that only you can see your passwords.

5. Popup Blocking in Safari

Safari also offers extensive popup blocking, giving you a less annoying web experience that's also safer. Popup ads can contain all sorts of seedy links, including those that download malware to your Mac.

While macs aren’t known for getting viruses, Mac-specific malware definitely exists. We’ve written before about how to tell if your Mac has a virus , but it's better to make sure you don’t get malware, rather than having to deal with removing it.

Safari has several settings for popups, including blocking all of them outright. You can also have Safari let you know when it blocks one, in case you actually need a popup from a particular site.

To set Safari’s pop-up settings, go to Safari > Preferences and click on the Websites tab. Scroll down the left menu to Pop-up Windows , then set your preferences for various websites using the dropdown menus on the right.

For a default popup setting, set the When visiting other websites dropdown to your preference at the bottom of the window.

For a Private and Secure Browser, Use Safari

Safari comes with many features that keep your personal information and user data well hidden, as well as settings that let you browse the internet safely. It’s a great browser already built into Mac computers, and worth using for these and many other reasons.

Start using Safari regularly, and you can make it your own by learning how to customize some of its elements.

These Are the Best New Features of Safari 14

David Joz

Safari has never been the most popular browser, but for Apple computer users, it’s still a staple of the ecosystem. There is a diehard and loyal base that uses Safari as the default browser. That’s even more evident with the release of Safari 14 as part of macOS Big Sur. Putting an emphasis on privacy and speed, Safari 14 is moving into the modern age. Let’s take a look at all of the new features of Safari 14.

Privacy and Security

As privacy becomes more and more critical in our online world, Safari 14 adds a new toolbar button that can display web trackers. Over the last few years, Apple’s move as a leader in the privacy space has led to new features across almost all of their services and devices. In the case of Safari 14, Privacy Report is now available to help notify you when any website is using trackers. To view the privacy report of any website, click on the “shield icon,” which is just to the left of the address bar. A pop-up will appear, showing how many trackers on the page are being blocked.

New Features Safari 14 Privacy Security

However, things get even more interesting when you click on the information button at the top right of the popup. When you do that, you will see a full 30-day summary of how many trackers have been stopped in total. Do you want to see a list of which websites are the biggest culprits with trackers? On the bottom of the information or privacy report screen, you can rank sites from high to low.

Safari Extensions

One of the biggest downsides of Safari is looking at other browsers and longing for their extension libraries. Safari 14 brings good news. It introduces a new Web Extensions API that’s easier than ever for third-party extensions, like those written for Chrome, to be ported over to Safari. Of course, it’s still up to the developers to do so. However, a year ago extensions required a completely different set of tools which led to a significantly smaller selection of extensions. Now, a more traditional browser development process will hopefully lead to Chrome extension favorites being ported over to Safari.

Easy Translations

New Features Safari 14 Easy Translations

Another opportunity to play something of a catch-up game with Chrome, Safari finally has built-in translations. Available in English, Spanish, Chinese, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, and Russian, translations are as easy as a few clicks. Once you land on a page you want to translate, head to the “menu bar -> View -> Translation.” As the menu opens, select the language you want to translate to, and Safari handles the rest. If you want to add a language not on the list, head over to the “Language and Region section -> Preferred languages.”

Flash Is Gone

To be fair, this is less of a feature and more of a celebration. Safari 14 marks the first time that Safari does not have support for Adobe Flash. Once an Internet necessity for animations, applications and video, Flash is no longer a dominant force online. Safari 14 users won’t notice anything right away and that’s okay. The removal of Flash will allow for a snappier browser and significantly improved battery life while using Safari.

Tab Previews

New Features Safari 14 Tab Preview

If you are someone who consistently has plenty of tabs opened, you’ve often found yourself hunting for the right tab. Safari 14 has something of a solution for that. If you want to see what’s on a page in a tab, you can hover over the tab, and Safari will show you a preview of the page. It takes a second or two but works incredibly well. Gone are the days that you jump around from tab to tab to find what you are looking for. Found on browsers like Brave, this is a very simple but incredibly overlooked feature that can definitely change how you use Safari.

Updated Start Page

Customize Safari 14 Big Sections

We’ve already taken a look at this page , but it’s a marked shift from previous iterations of Safari. With everything from changing the start page background to choosing what sections appear, this is the first time Apple is really letting users customize the start page. You can add the favorites you want at the top of the page, see your privacy report each time you open a new tab, and see what tabs are open on your iOS devices. It’s a huge update. While many Safari users will change their start page and ignore these updates, it doesn’t change the fact that this feature deserves plenty of praise.

Wrapping Up

Safari is never going to be the world’s most popular browser. That said, its following is loyal, and Apple is committed to making it better, faster and more secure with every software update. Safari 17 beta is here (and it lets you enable hidden features too)

Flag up some new features in testing…

Stage Manager running Safari on a MacBook Air

A new version of Safari is almost here, and it’s set to be a big one. First announced at WWDC 2023 , it brings a bunch of new features for those running macOS Sonoma , but it’s also bringing different features for those running macOS Monterey and Ventura , too. And with a beta build now available, you can try it for yourself.

For those unaware, Safari for iOS 17 , iPadOS 17 , and macOS Sonoma introduces profiles, so you can separate work and personal bookmarks at different times of the day, alongside being able to secure a private window behind Touch ID and Face ID.

This version of Safari is also available to older macOS versions, so you can try out these features without updating to the public beta of macOS Sonoma. To do so, simply sign up to the Apple Beta Software site and try it out right now.

While we don’t recommend using beta software for your everyday devices, Safari 17 can be downloaded as a separate browser, so you can relatively safely use it alongside the latest stable build, too.

Sweet seventeen

Experimental Features will be a big draw here, as you can easily switch on some features in a redesigned menu that makes it easier to try individual additions to the browser. Google Chrome has had a similar method for years, where you can type in chrome://flags in the address bar, and you can simply scroll down the list and enable features in development.

Safari is unique in the fact that it has its own section on Apple’s Developer site where a Preview of the web browser is maintained all year round. No other app from Apple does this, but it makes sense, as Webkit, the engine that powers Safari, is used in other web browsers, so any improvements need to be made available for other third-party developers.

But using a preview that’s separate from the public betas of iOS 17 is a unique offering, and it makes us wonder whether other apps could benefit from this regular cadence of updates and documentation. Perhaps Mail could benefit from this by being opened up by Apple, without having to showcase new features at WWDC every year, so users and developers could see how the app could improve and become a great rival to other Mail apps like Spark and Outlook.

Vaccination and visa requirements for African countries

Some popular safari destinations may require you to have received certain vaccinations in order to enter the country as a tourist. Inoculation requirements can include vaccination against COVID-19 and yellow fever, and you'll need to get these vaccines before departing on your trip. Be sure to bring proof of vaccinations with you. If you are transiting through another country en route to your safari tour, you must check that you also meet immunization requirements for the stopover location.

Note that, outside of what's required, there are a number of other vaccinations that are recommended, so ensure you're up to date and fully protected before you travel. In addition, many safari locations are prone to malaria; you should consult with your doctor to see if you need to bring anti-malaria medication on your trip.

Safari countries have varying visa requirements for travelers from the U.S. – these are detailed below. Depending on your itinerary, you may need a single- or multiple-entry visa, and some visas require you to apply in advance of traveling and/or have a certain number of blank pages in your passport. Regardless of your destination, your passport should be valid for at least six months before you leave for your trip.

Here are the vaccine and visa requirements for major safari destinations as of November 2022:

Botswana: If you have recently visited a country where yellow fever is common, you will need to be vaccinated against this illness. This does not include the U.S. but does include a number of countries in Africa, Central and South America. Consult the World Health Organization's website for a list of countries with risk of yellow fever transmission, including Kenya and Uganda.

U.S. citizens and nationals can stay in Botswana for 90 days without a visa.

Kenya: Travelers to Kenya must have been vaccinated against COVID-19 with the last shot administered more than 14 days before arrival in the country. Unvaccinated visitors can enter with a negative PCR test, conducted no more than 72 hours before departure. Proof of COVID-19 tests or vaccines must be uploaded to an online system called Panabios. Kenya is a country where you'll be at risk of yellow fever transmission; it also requires those traveling from other places with yellow fever or cholera outbreaks to be vaccinated against these illnesses. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that you protect yourself against yellow fever before your trip here.

Americans need an e-visa to enter Kenya. You should apply online at the eVisa government website no more than eight weeks before your trip, as visas are not available upon arrival in Kenya. See more on the U.S. Department of State's website .

Namibia: Those traveling from a country where yellow fever is common need to be vaccinated against it. No visa is required as long as you're staying for 90 days or less.

Rwanda: If you're coming from a country where yellow fever is endemic, a yellow fever vaccination is required before departure.

U.S. citizens and nationals can be issued a 30-day visitor visa on arrival in Rwanda or through the Rwandan Embassy in Washington, D.C. A single-entry visa costs $50, and it's recommended you bring sufficient cash in U.S. dollars to pay for this (although credit card payment may be accepted at Kigali International Airport). Consult the State Department website for more information.

South Africa: A yellow fever vaccination is required if you're traveling from a country with a risk of transmission. No visa is required for stays of 90 days or less.

Tanzania: Travelers must be able to present proof of COVID-19 vaccination with a QR code to enter Tanzania. Unvaccinated travelers must take a PCR test no more than 72 hours before departure, and the test results should be accessible by QR code. Yellow fever vaccines are mandatory if you're traveling from a location where yellow fever is present – including if you spend more than 12 hours in transit in such a country.

Visas are required for tourism in Tanzania. You can apply for a single-entry, 90-day visa online for $50 – and be sure to print a copy of the approval to bring with you. The processing period takes up to 10 days. You can also obtain a visa on arrival for a $100 fee; it's recommended you bring cash to cover this. Find more Tanzanian visa information on the State Department website .

Uganda: To enter Uganda, you must either be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or present a negative test taken no more than 72 hours before departure. Like Kenya, Uganda is a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. All visitors must show proof of vaccination against yellow fever to enter Uganda, regardless of where you're traveling from.

American visitors to Uganda must apply online for an electronic visa before departure; arriving in Uganda without completing this process could result in your detainment. Visit the State Department website to learn more.

Zambia: Visitors who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 must show proof of vaccination but do not need a test to enter Zambia; unvaccinated travelers must undergo a PCR test no more than 72 hours before departure. Yellow fever vaccines are only required if you're coming from an area considered at risk.

Visas are required to visit Zambia, but these can be obtained online before your departure or at a port of entry. Check the State Department website for more details.

Zimbabwe: To enter Zimbabwe, travelers must either be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or must take a negative PCR test no more than 48 hours before your departure. As with other countries on this list, visitors from countries with yellow fever outbreaks also require a vaccine against this illness.

U.S. visitors can obtain a 30-day, single-entry visa upon arrival in Zimbabwe for $30. If you're taking a tour that requires you to leave and reenter Zimbabwe, be sure to get a double-entry visa for $45. You can learn more from the State Department website .

Which Experimental Webkit Features Should Be Turned On?

The Safari web browser, developed by Apple, offers a range of experimental features designed for developers to improve and debug their web experiences. These features are not meant for regular users, but they can be activated if necessary, especially when seeking technical support from Apple.

WebKit is the underlying technology that powers Safari, and it constantly evolves to support new web standards and provide better performance. With the introduction of iOS 12/11, Apple introduced Safari WebKit Experimental Features, allowing developers to explore and test new functionalities within their apps.

But which experimental features should you consider turning on? Let’s take a closer look at some of them:

1. Web Push on iOS and iPadOS: This feature enables websites to send push notifications directly to iOS and iPadOS devices. It enhances the user experience by keeping them updated with relevant information, such as news updates, promotions, or reminders.

2. Improvements for Web Apps: These experimental features aim to enhance the performance and functionality of web applications on Safari. They can provide developers with tools to optimize their apps, resulting in smoother and more responsive user experiences.

3. Web Components: Web Components are a set of web platform APIs that allow developers to create reusable custom elements for web applications. By enabling this experimental feature, developers can leverage these APIs to build modular and easily maintainable web components.

4. CSS Enhancements: Experimental CSS features can unlock new possibilities for web design and styling. These features often introduce cutting-edge techniques, such as new layout models, animations, or visual effects. Enabling these features can empower developers to create unique and visually appealing websites.

5. HTML Improvements: Safari’s experimental HTML features can provide developers with access to new HTML elements, attributes, and APIs. These additions can enhance the structure and functionality of web pages, allowing for more interactive and engaging user experiences.

6. JavaScript and WebAssembly: These experimental features focus on improving the performance and capabilities of JavaScript and WebAssembly in Safari. Developers can utilize these features to create faster and more powerful web applications that can rival native software.

7. Web API Expansions: Safari’s experimental Web API features can expand the capabilities of web applications by offering new APIs for accessing device functionality, such as cameras, sensors, or location services. Enabling these features can unlock exciting possibilities for developers to create innovative web experiences.

8. Images, Video, and Audio Enhancements: Experimental features related to multimedia content can provide developers with access to advanced image and video processing capabilities, improved audio playback, and better integration of media elements on web pages. These features can enhance the viewing and listening experiences of users.

It’s important to note that enabling experimental features may come with potential risks, such as compatibility issues, performance limitations, or security vulnerabilities. Therefore, it is recommended to only activate these features if you are a developer or have a specific need for them. Regular users should avoid enabling experimental features to ensure a stable and secure browsing experience.

To enable or disable experimental features in Safari, navigate to Settings -> Safari -> Advanced -> Experimental Features. From there, you can toggle individual features on or off. If you encounter any issues or have specific queries, it’s always a good idea to reach out to Apple’s technical support for guidance.

Safari’s experimental WebKit features offer developers the opportunity to explore new web technologies and enhance their web applications. However, it is crucial to exercise caution when enabling these features, as they may come with potential drawbacks. Always weigh the benefits against the risks before activating any experimental features in Safari.

Do You Need Experimental WebKit Features On Your iPhone?

It is not necessary for the average iPhone user to enable experimental WebKit features. These features are typically designed for developers and advanced users who want to test new functionalities or provide feedback to Apple. Enabling experimental features may introduce instability or compatibility issues, and could potentially impact the performance and security of your device.

Here are a few reasons why you may not need experimental WebKit features on your iPhone:

1. Stability: Experimental features are still in the testing phase and may not be stable. They could potentially cause crashes or other issues while browsing the web.

2. Compatibility: Some experimental features may not be compatible with all websites or web applications. This means that certain websites may not function correctly or may not load at all.

3. Performance: Enabling experimental features may have a negative impact on your device’s performance, as they are not optimized for everyday use.

4. Security: Experimental features may have security vulnerabilities that could expose your device to potential risks. It is generally recommended to use stable and well-tested features to ensure a higher level of security.

Unless you are a developer or have specific reasons for enabling experimental WebKit features, it is generally best to stick with the stable and officially supported features of Safari on your iPhone.

which experimental webkit features should be turned on

What Does Experimental WebKit Features Mean?

Experimental WebKit features refer to new functionalities and capabilities that are being tested and developed by Apple within the Safari web browser. These features are not yet fully stable or officially released, but they are made available to developers for testing and experimentation purposes.

Key points about experimental WebKit features:

1. Purpose: These features are designed to provide developers with early access to new technologies and enhancements within Safari. They allow developers to explore and experiment with cutting-edge web capabilities before they are officially released.

2. Testing and feedback: By making these experimental features available, Apple encourages developers to test them and provide feedback. This feedback helps Apple identify and address any issues or bugs before the features are included in stable releases.

Please note that experimental WebKit features may not be fully supported or standardized yet, and their usage may require additional testing and caution. It is recommended to refer to the official WebKit documentation and guidelines for more information on using these features effectively.

How Do You Reset Experimental WebKit Features to Default Settings?

To reset experimental WebKit features to default settings, follow these steps:

1. Open the Settings app on your device. 2. Scroll down and tap on “Safari” to access Safari settings. 3. Within the Safari settings, scroll further down and tap on “Advanced.” 4. In the Advanced settings, look for “Experimental Features” and tap on it. 5. At the bottom of the Experimental Features page, you’ll find an option called “Reset All to Defaults.” Tap on it.

By performing these steps, you will reset all the experimental WebKit features to their default settings. It’s important to note that there won’t be a confirmation prompt, and the reset will take place immediately.

Please keep in mind that resetting experimental features will remove any customized settings or preferences you may have made. If you have specific experimental features enabled that you wish to keep, it’s advisable to note them down before performing the reset.

Experimental WebKit Features in Safari provide developers with the ability to debug and enhance web experiences within their apps. These features demonstrate Apple’s commitment to supporting developers and ensuring the best possible user experience. From web components to CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and WebAssembly, Safari’s Experimental Features offer a wide range of tools for developers to optimize and improve their web apps. Additionally, Safari 16.4 introduces Web Push on iOS and iPadOS, further enhancing the capabilities of web apps on Apple devices. However, it is important to note that these experimental features should only be enabled by developers or under the guidance of Apple technical support. For regular users, it is recommended to keep these features disabled to ensure a stable and secure browsing experience.

10 Best African Countries for Safari

#1 Botswana

Recommended Tours:

Thus, poachers are seen as enemies of the people. As a result, Botswana has come into view as Africa's most sought-after ecotourism destination. Starting from the Chobe National Park to the Moremi Nature Reserve, you'll be able to witness numerous gems all around the country.

Back in 2014, Botswana widely banned the hunting of wild animals and implemented strict laws which are still in practice. The country resumes its zero-tolerance for poaching and their very own environmental minister, Tshekedi Khama, has even launched a shoot-to-kill policy for poachers.

Botswana, with its wildlife conservation and natural parks, is a haven for nature lovers. It is currently in the top 5, as its approach to the protection and conservation of wildlife is worth the praise. As a country, it is very forward-thinking, some may even call it aggressively forward-thinking when it comes to its preservation and anti-poaching laws.

<p><strong>Recommended Tours:</strong></p> <p>Its fertile land provides a safe and comforting home to around 200 <a class="wpil_keyword_link" href="https://www.animalsaroundtheglobe.com/mammals/" title="mammal">mammal</a> species. This includes elephants, hippos, monkeys and so much more. Along with 650 bird species and 5,500 plants. Even though the country is still underdeveloped and most of the population live in rural households, its national parks, and sight-seeing destinations are on the top 10 of our lists.</p> <p>Even though many would face some difficulties in locating Malawi on a map, given how tiny it is, the country is home to the world-renowned Lake Malawi National Park. This is practically one-third of the country and is the most biodiverse lake in the world.</p>

Most of the land in Namibia is occupied by the Kalahari and Namib Deserts. Along with that, the country also has 12 national parks and many other areas which are protected. So, if you go there for a safari, you'll have many rich areas to see and explore.

When it comes to countries with the least amount of population, Namibia is one of them. Which proves to be a good thing for nature. This is because most of the land in Namibia is still unspoiled by human filth or any sort of development, giving nature a chance to breathe.

safari best features

In the country's Volcanoes National Park, you'll find 10 habituated gorilla families. Groups of 8 trekkers can visit them for one hour per day. But that's enough to get the best African safari experience. And as a nature lover, you'll enjoy the experience to the max.

If you've been around for some time, you'll be familiar with Rwanda's mountain gorillas. They were famously broadcasted and their fight for survival was shown on  National Geographic . This was all thanks to the late  Dian Fossey  back in the 1970s who advocated for the rights of these mountain gorillas throughout her life.

Considering the tragic history surrounding the mass genocide of the people of Rwanda back in 1994, it's truly a blessing what the country has achieved in the past 25 years. There have been countless investments in infrastructure. This has resulted in the country being a very fast-growing destination for ecotourism.

#6 South Africa

But given all the advantages, it's safe to conclude that South Africa also suffers from over-tourism. I mean, if you have so many great attractions, people will flock towards it. Chances are that you'll find yourself in the middle of dozens of unruly visitors who are not too keen on obeying the rules. This occurs mostly during the peak seasons.

Annually, the country has one million visitors. Its biggest attraction is the Kruger National Park with its enrichment in biodiversity. Visitors there also have the liberty to self-drive, thus, getting a first-person private but superb experience.

For some time now, South Africa has been climbing the charts to become one of the most popular destinations for African safaris. Given its location, South Africa is a very convenient and cheap destination for people from the United States. Besides that, the country also boasts a well-developed infrastructure which makes it perfect for luxury travelers as well.

#7 Tanzania

One of the most popular locations would be the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The country is also a haven for 1100 different bird species. It's no wonder that Tanzania gets this much rep. Especially when the country boasts so many wonders.

We talked about Kenya being the top destination for Safari. Now Tanzania here takes second place in being the continent's most popular safari destination. And why shouldn't it? The country has 16 national parks and an extraordinary amount of wealth and wildlife wonders for the people to witness.

safari best features

Some of its natural attractions include housing the highest mountain range in Africa. It also has the world's largest free-standing volcano and the second-largest freshwater lake. With its 30 national parks and other wildlife reserves, Uganda boasts many more sanctuaries which are worth the visit. Especially if you're a lover of nature and wildlife.

Often called "The Pearl of Africa", Uganda is certainly a great pick for an African safari. Its reputation as being one of the best ecotourism destinations comes from the country's natural attractions and wildlife.

<p><strong>Recommended Tours:</strong></p> <p>Out of its 20 national parks, the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park is home to many wildlife animals such as African elephants, Angolan giraffes, Cape buffalo, etc. Other than that, there are many private ownerships of National parks, notably the Kasanka National Park which is near the basin of Lake Bangweulu. It's a safe place where visitors can see 400 different avian species.</p> <p>Zambia may be a bit far down the list of popular destinations for your African safari, but many consider it to be a destination for diversified and immersive safari experiences, and making a notable feature on our 10 Best African Countries for Safari guide. The country is steadily focusing on conservation as their president has shown a keen interest and is working on building the nation's economy as well as the infrastructure.</p>
