Trip Introduction

Panchase Trek is one of the short treks around Pokhara away from the actual Annapurna trail but it is a rural-cultural off-the-beaten trek that offers an ideal way to discover natural beauty around Pokhara for those visitors on visit, without missing out on the incredible views over the Annapurna Himalayan Range and experience the village life. Our short trek starts in style with a gentle boat trip across Lake Phewa to take you to the start point, where a short climb will be rewarded with stunning views out across the Annapurnas, Machhapuchhare (Fishtail), Dhaulagiri, and Manaslu, which will form the backdrop to much of the trek. The trail will take you up to the World Peace Pagoda, through the forest where you can see the flora and fauna of Nepal, and past several villages where you can experience the daily lives of the local people. It takes you up to an elevation of 2500m on the summit of Panchase Hill, from which (if you are willing to get up early enough!) you can see a dramatic sunrise over the Himalayas giants.

Panchase is one of the closest short treks near Pokhara. Panchase is a point of five tall hills where they meet on the top. On the top of Panchase; there is a temple of Sidda Baba, Dharmasala, Mahadev temple, a view tower, and Buddha statues. The intersection of Kaski, Parbat, and Syangja districts is called Panchase. Panchase Hill offers impressive views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, Lamjung Himal, and Manaslu and some stunning views of sunrise and sunset. There is a Pancsila Lake and Barah temple at the top. It is said that saints used to stay there because if fire caught in 1966 they moved elsewhere. However; it is a sacred site for yoga and meditation.

People and locals.

Panchase and its surrounding area are home to some 70,000 population including Kalabang, Chitre, and Bhadaure. Deurali, Talibarang, Arthare and Sidhane villages. Most of these villages have homestay facilities with welcoming hospitality. One needs to inform in advance if you are going to stay in one of those and you have to be there before sunset.

Nature and wildlife

Panchase; resting on the lap of the Himalayas is a complete package with its pristine beauty, and topographical diversity to go with the blend of historic, religious, and cultural hues. Panchase which abuts Kaski, Syangja, and Parbat districts is a place of bio-diversity and is home to endangered bird species of the world. In case you have not noticed. Panchase has biological diversity as there are different kinds of birds, animals, butterflies, flowers, and vegetation. Harpan Khola – the origin of the famous Phewa Lake, Adhikhola, Ratikhola, Jarekhola, and Seti Khola all these small river and rivulets flows from Panchase. The world-famous rhododendron, Sunkhari, and Leksallo among other flowers are the staple products of the area. Panchase is also known as the depot of endangered herbs and herbal medicine. The world's endangered herbs such as Satuwa, Chattre Unyu, and Loth Salla have existed since the time of dinosaurs. It is also home to animals like leopards, bears, deer, and many species of birds.

How are the accommodation and food in Panchase?

The accommodation in this route is quite basic compared to other popular trekking trails such as Ghorepani Poon Hill or Annapurna Circuit in Annapurna. Local people run homestay services at Kalabang and Pumdi villages offering staying in local homes. We saw one new lodge at Bhumdi that is a bit away from the village. For those; who love experiencing local culture and don’t mind going through basic facilities then it is a firsthand opportunity to discover the locals and their lifestyle. The food is usually rice, potatoes, noodles, eggs, momo, chapati etc and tea, coffee for table drinks. Dal Bhaat (a Nepalese set meal that comes with boiled rice, lentil soup, fried/cooked vegetables, and pickles) is served in homestays. For beverages and bars, there are cold drinks, beer, distillery drinks, and Raksi (local wine).

When to go / what is the best time to trek?

Panchase Trek can be done year-round. The best advised time to trek there is fall (September – November) however it can be one of the wet areas in the Annapurna region. There are high seasons that suit this trek and the following months have traditionally been used as a guide for the favorite times of the year to do the Panchase trek.  Mid-September - November - early December: this is Nepal's best time to go trekking however if the Monsoon is late then Panchase can remain cloud-covered until early October rarely. Otherwise, the views at this time of year in Panchase are usually just gorgeous.

Mid-December to February: This is the winter season in Nepal; has a clear sky but it can be cold in Panchase, so warm clothing is advised. Little chance of snowfall this time at Panchase.  March - April: this is the spring season; the end of the dry season and the second best time of the year for trekking. At this time there are rare chances of showers rain and storms in Pokhara hence Panchase is likely to have cloud cover sometimes.

May - June: This is Nepal's hot pre-monsoon period and it can be quite warm. The valleys around Panchase flourish with flowers and new leaves though which makes for a very nice trek. However cloud cover can be an issue.

June – Early September: Monsoon season and not a good time to go trekking to Panchase.  The leeches in this area are so active when it is wet and the trail is slippery, that downpours also increase greatly. For more details please write us to go trekking in Nepal at the best time. Nepal offers some of the best summer treks in Nepal's other areas.

How to get there?

There are three options to start the hike. 1) Start the trek from Phewa Lake near Halanchowk via Kalabang and spend the first night in Bhumdi. 5-6 hours of walking bring you to Panchase Bhanjyang on the second day. There are half a dozen hotels at Bhanjyang and it is 1.5 hours to Panchase Hill from there and just one hotel on the top. The next day after enjoying the sunrise and hot breakfast descending to the Chitre village of Parbat would be best via Pancsila Lake. 2) The second option is to start the hike from Peace Stupa and trek to Panchase via Pumdi Bhumdi. 3) The third option is to ride a local bus or take a taxi to Kande and then Bhadaure and trek to Panchase.

Distance and elevation

Panchase lies at a height ranging from 800 to 2,500 meters above sea level which tells us of its diverse topography. The mountain ranges of Mt Dhaulagiri, Mt Annapurna, Mt Manaslu, and Mt Ganesh can be seen from Panchase, which is the source of Fewa Lake, and rivers like Rati, Jare, Andhi, and Seti. The area lies at a distance of 28 kilometers from Pokhara, making it one of the attractive trekking destinations from the scenic city.  This trek is also a great extension to any of our tours of Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan Jungle Safari Tour.

How long is Panchase Trek?

Normally; Panchase Trek is 2 to 3 days long though it can be extended up to 4 days via Australian Camp and Dhampus.  Our pre-set 3-day itinerary is standard and starts at Pokhara at Phewa Lake. If you would like to customize it please email us.

Panchase Trek – Annapurna’s Hidden Gem

Page Template

Asia , Nepal

easy-treks-in-nepal-panchase

The Panchase Trek is one of Nepal’s hidden gems.

Being in the same region as the Annapurna Circuit ,  Poon Hill trek  and the  Royal Trek , it is often overlooked by hikers.

However, if you don’t have the time to trek these routes, but still want beautiful scenery and mountain peak views, then the Panchase Trek is the perfect option.

Panchase Hike In Nepal

Being only 4 days long, the Panchase trek is great for beginners and will give you a real sense of what it’s like to trek some of the more wilder sections of the  Himalayas .

The Panchase hike only requires moderate fitness and is perfectly trek-able for families and retirees. It’s also one of the easiest treks in Nepal .

Starting at Pokhara, the trek allows you to explore the amazing city and all the wonders it has to offer before leaving. Make sure you have a drink at one of the lakeside cafes! The trek begins in style as you cross the Phewa lake by boat – an experience in itself! The trail takes you past the World Peace Pagoda and then down through some lovely local villages where you can witness the authentic and rustic lifestyle of the local people.

Panchase is actually one of the hill stations in the Annapurna Region and also a religious site for Hindu People. The summit of Panchase Hill (2,500m) is often considered to be the best viewpoint to see Annapurna massif. However, along your trek you’ll also see other giant Himalaya peaks including Dhaulagiri, Lamjung, Machhapuchhre and Manaslu.

Apart from being a great introduction to Nepal trekking for novices, as well as providing an incredible experience for those with less time on their hands, the main drawcard of the Panchase trek is the beauty and diversity of the scenery: one minute there is terraced rice fields lush, the next, lush vegetation and then alpine areas!

We are a family of 5 and this information has been extremely valuable for planning our first trip to Nepal. We are extremely excited about our trip in April and your article and info has got us even more excited about what we know will be the first of many trips.

Many thanks

Terry from Singapore

Hi Terry, glad we could be of help. Hope you have an awesome trip with your family. All the best!

Hi there Thanks for your wonderful and comprehensive overview of the Panchase trek. I am visiting Pokhara in October and would love to do a longer trek but will only be there for around four nights. I also suffer from a recurring knee injury, which generally poses no major problems, but can flare up if I overdo it or with strenuous ascents and particularly descents. It does look lovely but do you think that this trek would be okay for someone like me? I noticed there are a few steep parts. Or is there a way to avoid these bits at all? I’m thinking my other option would be to just do some smaller, less strenuous hikes – eg, drive to Astam and around there and then perhaps on to Dhampus / Australian Camp or something along those lines. Indeed, any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks in advance for any help or advice. Simon

Hi Simon, thanks for getting in touch. The Panchase is relatively straightforward with no major ascents and descents. There are of course ups and downs though, and these could aggravate a knee injury. I would say that in general you should be fine on the Panchase trek, alternatively The Royal Trek ( https://www.mountainiq.com/guides/trekking-in-nepal/routes/royal-trek/ ) is also an option or Poon Hill Trek (although you would probably want to skip the hill climb for the full view of the Annapurnas). Hope this helps.

We will be in Nepal in January and would like to do a short hike – perhaps Panchase. Is it possible to do this hike early January, say 1st or 2nd Jan starting. If not Panchase, can you recommend another short hike of about 4 days duration. Preferably one with not many tourists. Thank you for your help 😉

Hi Maree, yes it is possible to trek in January, although temperatures can be pretty frigid. Here are some short hikes to consider: https://www.mountainiq.com/short-treks-in-nepal/ . The Panchase trek is a good option if you are going to be based in the Annapurna region.

We are a couple looking for a trek. One partner is relatively fit and healthy, the other is fit but less so. We want something to challenge us, thinking also of combining yoga and trekking. What are your thoughts? We are considering the panchasse or the poon hill.

Hi Rakhee, I would recommend the Poon Hill Trek. It is more varied and has amazing views of the Annapurnas.

Hi We are interested in this Panchase trek – do you recommend any local guides? Thanks Jo

  • Less crowded and newly opened trekking route
  • Excellent opportunity to observe the local culture, unspoiled lifestyle, homestay, and so on.

Panchase Trek is yet another one of Nepal’s hidden cultural and natural gems. The trek is located in the same region as the popular Annapurna Circuit Trek and Annapurna Base Camp Trek  and is often overlooked by hikers. It is a small trek ideal for experiencing beautiful natural scenery and mountain peak views within a short amount of time. The Panchase Trek is a great trek for families and beginners and offers some of the best viewpoints to see the Annapurna range as well as other mountain peaks including Dhaulagiri (8167 m) , Lamjung Himal (6983 m), and Machhapuchhre (6993 m). Apart from being a great introduction to trekking in the Himalayas and offering a great experience for those with a short amount of time available, it provides amazing diversity and beauty in the scenery as the trek goes through lush rice fields, lavish vegetation, and local Gurung communities and villages.

The Panchase Trek sets off with a boat trip across the beautiful Phewa Lake to our starting point. We will climb through a lush forest before reaching the stairs that lead up to the famous Buddhist World Peace Pagoda. 80 World Peace Pagodas have been built around the world in an attempt to promote world peace. The pagoda itself is a remarkable sight; however, it also offers breathtaking views of Phewa Lake and the city of Pokhara. We continue our trek down through a little forest before ascending again to reach Bumdi, our destination for the day. The trail leads us through a beautiful forest with great opportunities to see some of the wildlife of the area, such as a vast amount of rare birds and monkeys as well! We continue the trek, passing some great panoramic viewpoints before arriving at Bhanjyang. On our third day, we will reach the summit of Panchase Hill (2500 m), which is the highest point of our trek. Apart from the awe-inspiring view from Panchase Hill , it is also one of the best places to witness the sunrise as it bathes the mighty mountain peaks in golden sunlight in a truly remarkable sight! Continuing down through the village of Alldanda, we will follow the trail to Bhadaure. On our last day, we will follow a trail winding its way down through local villages and across streams before finally reaching our destination of Naudanada, from where we will get transport back to Pokhara.

Likewise, if your time frame permits, then we highly recommend visiting the most beautiful community lodge trek, the  Mohare Danda Trek , and the classic Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek . For more details, please do not hesitate to contact the local experts.

Panchase Trek in Nepal: A Complete Travel Guide

Panchase Trek in Nepal: A Complete Travel Guide

What is the panchase trek.

The focal point of the Panchase Trek is reaching Panchase Peak (2,500 metres above sea level) which provides great views of the amazing Annapurnas.

This is a great entry-level hike for the Himalayas as it’s possible to do it quite quickly and without prior acclimatization .

There are several different routes to choose from and therefore also options for everything from spending just a single night to trekking for multiple days . We’ll outline these options further down.

We did a 3 days/2 nights version starting and ending in Pokhara and reaching the peak on the morning of the third day – before a very long walk down.

Where to stay in Pokhara:

  • Luxury: The Pavilions Himalayas – Probably the best place to stay in Pokhara.
  • Value for money: Three Jewels Boutique Hotel – Comfortable rooms at great value.
  • Budget: Sacred Valley Inn – Cheap but without private bathrooms.

Search for the best value accommodation in Pokhara here .

Panchase trekking off the beaten path

Level of fitness required for the panchase trek, our panchase trek itinerary, panchase trek itinerary options, typical prices and budget for the panchase trek, best time to go on the panchase trek, what to bring on the panchase trek, how to book the panchase trek, minimise your impact.

(Don’t trust Google Maps with the exact locations).

Even though the Panchase Trek is one of the few treks that practically starts in the traveler-friendly city of Pokhara, it is relatively unknown compared to classics like Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), Annapurna Circuit and Poon Hill.

We visited Nepal in October (peak tourist season!) and barely met any other trekkers on the trails during our 3-day Panchase Trek.

This was definitely not the case with our Mardi Himal trek, which isn’t even that popular to the three above-mentioned ones.

On our first day, we started a little late and didn’t meet a single tourist before we reached our tea house/homestay in the evening – where we met just one other couple.

Day 2 was the same and here we only met a woman trekking solo.

We did meet a couple of other people in the Panchase Village and on the peak, but not many.

Panchase Trek rice terraces

Determining what kind of fitness you need to be able to do a specific hike or trek is always incredibly difficult.

Often it’s not the case of whether or not you’ll be physically able to make it, but rather about how much you’ll enjoy it .

For Nepal, the Panchase Trek is relatively easy because it is so short . You probably won’t build up much fatigue if you do the three-day option as we did.

The Panchase Trek is not a walk in the park. It is by no means suited for the walking impaired.

But if you’re interested in trekking in Nepal, you probably already know this. To our knowledge, no trek in Nepal really fits that description.

It other words, what might be dubbed a “strenuous” hike in a national park in the United States might not even make the “easy” rating in Nepal simply because the audience is so different.

If you’re unsure whether or not you’re fit enough to do the Panchase trek, take the following into account:

  • There is a lot of stair climbing involved.
  • You’ll gain more than 1,700 metres of elevation which you also have to descend again.
  • Walking through the forest can be slippery .
  • You’ll be on your feet for several hours , usually for several days in a row.
  • If you just want to reach the peak, it’s possible to get a jeep to and from the Panchase Village, leaving just about 700 metres of elevation gain and subsequent loss to your legs.

To conclude, we wouldn’t say that the Panchase Trek is neither particularly easy nor family-friendly.

It might be one of the easier hikes in terms of total length and elevation gain/loss near Pokhara, but this doesn’t make it effortless!

Stairs to Kande

World Peace Pagoda

After breakfast in Pokhara, we sailed across Phewa Lake to where we started trekking up to the World Peace Pagoda.

It’s pretty steep going up there, but not too far; we spent about 45 minutes to an hour going up.

The views from the Peace Pagoda are really impressive – especially since this was the first time we saw more than just the top of the peaks of the Annapurna massif.

From the pagoda, it’s a pretty short walk to the restaurant where we ate lunch (aka dal bhat).

The 12 Best Things to Do in Pokhara, Nepal (That Isn’t Trekking)

The walk to Bumdi

The rest of the walk to Bumdi provides scenic views to the Pokhara valley and beautiful rice terraces.

We also walked through many small local villages with curious and playful children.

The walk to Bumdi

Himalayan View Tea House

Arriving in Bumdi (sometimes also spelled Pumdi or Bhumdi), we “checked-in” at Himalayan View Tea House, run by the wonderful couple Myla and Myli.

For 600 Nepalese rupees (~ 5.2 USD / 4.7 EUR), we had a simple but private room with a western toilet and cold shower.

They served up the most delicious dal bhat of our whole trip in the evening including some of the hottest chilli imaginable. Don’t say yes to Myla’s chilli unless your stomach can handle it!

Though we didn’t stay inside their actual home, this is exactly how we pictured a great homestay with lots of laughs and culture exchange.

They were simply so sweet and we loved staying at Himalayan View Tea House.

Himalayan View Tea House in Bumdi

Nasty leeches

Breakfast was served at the roof where we enjoyed porridge, bread, fruit and black tea in the morning sun.

After a bit of climbing, we entered the forest .

On a sunny day after a clear night, walking through the forest would surely have been pretty great.

It had rained during the night though, which meant that there was a lot of leeches …

Leeches aren’t dangerous. They aren’t too painful. They just itch. And they’re nasty!

We battled the leeches all through the forest and honestly would rather have avoided this part of the trip if we could.

Going later in the season (this was early October) would probably mean drier conditions and no leeches.

There are no restaurants between Bumdi and Panchase Village so bring some lunch or snacks for the trip.

From Bumdi into the forest

Panchase Village

Panchase Village has a lot more accommodation options than Bumdi with about six tea houses.

We stayed at Sunset View Point Guesthouse where we got a simple and clean room with electricity and a hot (!) shower for 500 Nepalese rupees (~ 4.4 USD / 3.9 EUR).

Both shower and (squat toilet) was shared.

Once again, the dal bhat was delicious.

There was an actual menu with a few different options here if you fancy trying something else than the Nepali national dish.

Sunset View Point Guesthouse

The highlight of our trip: Panchase Peak

Our guide Tek woke up at 3 AM and 4 AM to check the weather conditions. Unfortunately, it was too cloudy for a great sunrise view.

We waited until about 10 AM to go to Panchase Peak as the weather had cleared up by then.

The walk up is quite steep but easy in terms of terrain with mostly stairs.

There’s a small temple on top, a “museum” with pictures of local flora and fauna and a restaurant/tea house.

The view to the Annapurnas is, non-surprisingly, amazing.

Ascending lots of stairs to get to Panchase Peak

Down to Kande

After walking back down to Panchase Village and filling up on more dal bhat, we embarked on the journey to Kande.

If you descend from Panchase Peak all the way to Kande in the same day like we did, prepare to be pretty sore the next couple of days!

The trail was a mixture of stairs cutting through the landscape and walking on the side of the dusty road. We barely met any vehicles.

Closer to Kande we started seeing more rice fields and even walked through some very nice villages.

We saw many tropical plants on our way, including coffee, avocado and banana trees.

Saying our goodbyes as we're leaving Panchase Village

Bus to Pokhara

At Kande, we made the last bus back to Pokhara.

While our little group was the only people on the bus at first, it quickly filled up with locals going into the city.

The atmosphere in the bus was eclectic with loud Nepali music and well-dressed people going to/from weddings and parties.

The sun set beautifully behind Panchase while we drove away.

Panchase waterfall

Reversing the trek

Instead of a long walk up and a steep way down, you could reverse our route and start with reaching Panchase Peak before walking to Bumdi and then back to Pokhara.

Extending the trek

While we took the boat from Pokhara across the lake, you can also walk around it for free; cutting a cost and adding a few extra kilometres.

Instead of catching the bus from (or to) Kande, you could probably walk all the way between Kande and Pokhara, but as it’s on a trafficked dirt-road, it might not be that attractive.

From Panchase Peak, it’s also possible to head down the other way and walk towards Panchase Lake.

Extending even further is definitely possible, too. Ask your trekking company or guide.

If you’re trekking alone, it’s important to always let somebody know about your intended itinerary.

Shortening the trek

If you’re really fast and start early, you might be able to skip the stop in Bumdi and trek directly between Pokhara/The Peace Pagoda and Panchase Village.

It will be a long day , but it’s not impossible.

Be aware of going into the forest when it’s getting dark. Finding your way isn’t always very obvious and we were really happy to have a guide that knew the paths.

Forest

All of the below prices are for two people.

Boat from Pokhara to World Peace Pagoda : 750 Nepalese rupees including obligatory life vests for 20 rupees per person (~ 6.5 USD / 5.9 EUR).

Lunch : 650 Nepalese rupees (~ 5.7 USD / 5.1 EUR).

Bumdi : Tea house accommodation: 600 Nepalese rupees (~ 5.2 USD / 4.7 EUR).

Dinner, breakfast, tea and boiled water*: 2,200 Nepalese rupees (~ 19 USD / 17 EUR).

*Instead of buying new plastic bottles with water, we bought boiled water, let it cool and refilled our own bottles for the next day of hiking. Better for the environment and cheaper too!

Panchase Village : Tea house accommodation: 500 Nepalese rupees (~ 4.4 USD / 3.9 EUR).

Dinner, lunch, breakfast, tea and boiled water: 2,600 Nepalese rupees (~ 23 USD / 20 EUR).

Bus from Kande to Pokhara : 60 Nepalese rupees per seat (~ 0.5 USD / 0.5 EUR).

Guide : ~ 2,500 Nepalese rupees per day (~ 22 USD / 20 EUR).

Total price for two people doing the Panchase Trek (3 days/2 nights): ~ 15,000 Nepalese rupees (~ 130 USD / 118 EUR).

That’s approximately 2,500 Nepalese rupees (~ 22 USD / 20 EUR) per day per person!

The menu at Sunset View Point Guesthouse

As with most other treks in Nepal, the best time to go is either in autumn or spring.

Autumn (October and November) are ideal as most rains should have stopped by then and the views keep getting better – but it isn’t too cold, yet.

As the elevation for the Panchase Trek isn’t very high, it’s also possible to do it in the colder winter months of December, January and February.

Spring (March to May) would be wonderful with even fewer people than autumn and beautiful flowers all around.

Summer (June to September) can’t be recommended unless you love leeches or plan to not walk through the forest.

We booked our Panchase Trek through Gokul at Summit International Travels & Tours in Thamel, Kathmandu.

He helped us book bus tickets for Pokhara on a nice bus, find accommodation in Pokhara and arranged everything with our wonderful guide, Mr. Tek .

We’re sure that Gokul’s other guides are great as well, but we can definitely recommend asking specifically for Tek if you want a guide who is relaxing to be around, funny, professional and generally amazing.

Mr. Tek our guide

To minimise your ecological impact on the Panchase Trek, follow these guidelines:

  • Bring everything back down . Try to avoid leaving any kind of trash on the trek, even in the tea houses. Bring everything back down to Pokhara.
  • Take only photos, leave only footprints .
  • Be considerate of other visitors . Enjoy the views in silence.
  • Respect wildlife.
  • Avoid buying bottled water . Bring your own bottle and fill it up with boiled water or use a tablet/pen/filter or similar to purify the water.

Panchase Trek from Pokhara.

“The Panchase Trek is a popular trekking destination in Nepal. It takes five days to complete and passes through stunning forests, terraced hillsides, and rhododendron forests. However, the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain views are breathtaking.”

The Panchase Trek is a wonderful alternative trekking route for those who are new to the area. If you just have a limited amount of time or are a beginner hiker, go to the Pokhara region. while still experiencing beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and learning about the local ethnic people’s everyday lives. The Panchase trek begins on the banks of the lovely Phewa Lake and leads to Panchase village, a beautiful spot. But it serves as an excellent primer in the Annapurna area. Pokhara is located on the banks of Phewa Lake .

The Panchase is about 30 kilometres from Pokhara. It’s a terrific little hike with some of the best views in the area on a clear day. During the winter, snow falls over Panchase village, which is located at 2500 meters above sea level. From here, you can see the magnificent Annapurna, Machhapuchhre, and Dhaulagiri. A small lake atop the Panchase trek adds to the extra attractiveness of this site. This is a less-touristic area with spectacular mountain views along the way and without the crowds of other popular hikes in Annapurna region treks .

The hike takes you through lovely villages and terraced farms. High slopes of rhododendron woodland with diverse flora and fauna are also present. This short hike takes you off the usual path and into a rural area with spectacular Himalayan views. The scenery, as well as the vibrant local culture and customs, are breathtaking. This excursion provides a panoramic view of the mountain ranges of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu. In addition, there is information on the local ethnic people and their lifestyle, as well as a pilgrimage place, a green forest, and bird watching. This is a great little hike for travellers, families with children, and environment enthusiasts of all kinds.

Certainly one of the shortest and cheapest two-day trips in Pokhara, the Panchase trek is a quick and easy trek. This trek starts and ends in Pokhara. It takes us to an elevation of up to 2500m above sea level, which is quite a comfortable height. The trek offers some splendid views of mountains like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Ganesh, and Machhapuchhre, among others. Panchase trek also allows you to explore villages and know about the local culture and traditions. This is a family trip, as it’s easy and convenient to walk. Moreover, our experienced guides will watch over your children, should you bring them.

Close to Pokhara Valley yet Far from it

You start your trek at Kande from where you walk uphill to Panchase Bhanjyang. It takes about 5 hours of hiking to reach there.

Upon arriving, you’ll stay in a hotel and explore the village in the evening. On the next day, you’ll see the spectacular sunrise from the top, i.e. Panchase.

Panchase trek is a perfect way to explore the area surrounding Pokhara for those that are short on time or only started trekking recently. It merely takes two days to complete this trek. Furthermore, you will not miss out on superb scenery as you will be continuously greeted with beautiful views of the mountains and Pokhara valley.

Likewise, one can opt to explore the valley. The valley offers varieties of attraction sites such as Phewa Lake, Peace Pagoda, Sarangkot, etc

How difficult is this Trek?

This is one of the easiest short treks accessible to all age groups. The highest point of the trek is Panchase hill which acts as a vacation spot for families. The enchanting view of the Annapurna range and the family-friendly environment has made it one of the most loved short treks in Nepal.

The flora and fauna along the trekking trails and the beautiful breathtaking view of landscapes have added more to its charm.

Enjoy the Retreat at the Best Price

While the Panchase trek is an easy and shortest trek near Pokhara, most backpackers are not aware of it. So, it also facilitates hiking in privacy and without disturbance. Panchase trek costs may vary as per the agencies.

However, we provide Panchase Trek all round year and at an affordable price. We can also tailor this trip according to your needs and requirements. Moreover, you can extend this trip by combining it with other treks like   the Australian camp Day Hike.

Panchase Trek: A short and Sweet Trek From Pokhara Company Reviews

Amazing scenery.

I would thoroughly recommend this trek for anyone who goes to Nepal and wants to get a flavour for the scenery. It’s especially ideal if you’re limited for time (as my partner and I were) So on this occasion the trek was led by a friendly young man called Yagya. It became apparent to both myself and my parter Vicky that Yagya was exceedingly familiar with the localities having spent much of his childhood there. He was full of enthusiasm and keen to share his knowledge of the area, and the history. The views were breathtaking throughout, taking us through forest areas, grasslands and a small number of villages where we stopped for food and supplies. These were frequent enough for us to have chance to stock for water, meals and snacks. The trek has clearly been well thought out. Yagya was an excellent guide who clearly knew his way around without needing to rely on any navigation or map reading at any point. He kept us to a good pace whilst also allowing us more time to take photos on the second day as we descended. During the 2 days we were captivated by Yagya’s stories and the local religious beliefs. Yagya was also keen to hear about our take on spiritualism and this offered some brief deep yet memorable conversations on the second day. The journey ended with a meal in a restaurant in Pokhara where the food was excellent and the perfect way to end the afternoon/evening. Overall we can’t thank Yagya enough for the journey he took us on. A real memorable experience.

Best Time for Panchase Trek in Nepal

Panchase Trek can be done throughout the year. But the best time is preferred as autumn (September, October, and November). It is the best time for almost all the treks in the Annapurna Region, as well as in whole Nepal.

Panchase Trek During Mid-September to Early December

In this time, the views are stunning. In case the monsoon occurs late, the atmosphere remains cloudy. Chances of rainfall also increase.

Panchase Trek During Mid-December to February

In this time, winter season falls in Nepal. The skies seem clearer but the environment remains colder. If you are willing to trek around in this time, warm clothing and supporting gears are advised. Little chance of rainfall and snowfall also prevails.

Panchase Trek During March to April

In this time, spring season falls in Nepal. It is the second-best time for trekking and is also recognized as a dry season of Nepal. Few drops of rain and storms tentatively occur in Pokhara; so there is the chance of occurrencethe of cloudy atmosphere in Panchase area.

Panchase Trek During May to Mid-June

This time is referred to as pre-monsoon season in Nepal. The surrounding remains covered with blooming flowers and newly sprouted leaves. Also, sometimes, clouds may cover the area, and rainfall may occur.

Panchase Trek During Late June to Early September

This time is known as the monsoon season in Nepal. It is the less recommended time for trekking. Climate remains cloudier and rainier. When there is no rainfall, the view remains pristine and mesmerizing. But the wet and slippery trail does not really support. Also, the rain parasites like snails, slugs, and leeches distract on the trekking path.

Some Safety Notes

  • Carry your own personal stuff
  • Carry appropriate trekking gears (include sleeping bag – warm to 20-degree Fahrenheit, under-wears, gloves, slacks or light jeans, a ski jacket or parka, walking boots, water bottles, flashlight or headlight, woolen shirts or sweater, towel, toilet kit, waterproof daypack or rucksack, and so on)
  • Check on the weather and climatic condition of Nepal; pick the appropriate seasons
  • A guide will take care of your safety; so, do not panic or rush if you get in any problem

Panchase Trek 3 days itinerary

Panchase Trek is not just a journey; it’s an immersive odyssey through the heart of rural Nepal, a symphony of nature, culture, and spirituality interwoven into a tapestry that captivates the soul. Over three days, this expedition unveils the breathtaking beauty of the Annapurna Himalayan Range , leaving indelible imprints on the minds of those fortunate enough to tread its trails.

Profound Origins and Spiritual Significance:

The very essence of Panchase Danda lies in its name – a nod to the five divine seats embodying the feminine principle in ancient Asana yoga. These sacred enclaves, resonating with spiritual energy, hold significance for Hindus and Buddhists alike. Panchase is more than a trek; it’s a pilgrimage to a revered meditation ground, a sanctuary for those seeking connection with the divine.

Floral Symphony and Ethnic Marvels:

As trekkers traverse the undulating paths, they become enchanted by the lush green forests that cloak Panchase. Diverse flora and fauna thrive in this harmonious ecosystem, creating a living symphony of life. The trek winds through traditional Gurung and Brahman villages, each a living testament to the rich cultural tapestry of the region. Vibrant traditions and warm hospitality greet trekkers at every step, offering a glimpse into the heart of mountain communities.

Diverse Tapestry of Panchase Villages:

Kalabang, Chitre, Bhadaure, Deurali, Talibarang, Arthare, and Sidhane – these names resonate with a collective population of around 70,000, forming the vibrant mosaic of Panchase’s allure. Homestay accommodations in these villages open doors to an intimate experience of local life. To truly immerse yourself, arriving before sunset and notifying hosts in advance is not just a suggestion but a key to unlocking the genuine hospitality of these communities.

Topographical Kaleidoscope and Cultural Abundance:

Panchase trek is not merely about the people but also about the landscape it cradles. The region boasts diverse species of birds, animals, butterflies, and an array of flora that transforms the trek into a sensory feast. Endangered herbs and herbal medicine find a safe haven here, while the verdant landscape is shared by elusive creatures such as tigers, bears, and deer. The coexistence of culture and nature paints Panchase as a canvas where every step tells a story.

Panoramic Vistas and Spiritual Haven:

The pinnacle of the trek is Panchase Danda, standing majestically at an elevation of 2500 meters. From this vantage point, the snow-capped peaks of the Annapurna Massif, Lamjung Himal, Machhapuchhree (fishtail), and Manaslu Himal ranges  create a panorama that transcends description. It’s a visual symphony that resonates with spiritual seekers and nature enthusiasts alike.

While in the region, trekkers have the opportunity to explore the World Peace Pagoda, a magnificent Buddhist monument perched atop a hill overlooking Fewa Lake. Accessible through a serene combination of boating and trekking, this haven radiates tranquility, offering a respite for the soul amidst the grandeur of nature.

Quaint Accommodations and Immersive Experience:

Accommodations along the Panchase trek trail are more than just places to rest; they are gateways to the heart of local communities. Bhumdi Guest House in Pundi Bhumdi and Open-Heart Guest House at Panchase Danda , though basic, provide an authentic experience of the unique lifestyle in these mountain villages. Staying true to the spirit of the trek, these accommodations enhance the overall journey, making it not just about the destination but the entire immersive experience.

Time-Efficient Adventure and Alternatives:

For those with time constraints or a preference for a less strenuous option than the more popular Ghorepani Poon Hill or Annapurna Sanctuary trek, the Panchase Trek emerges as the perfect compromise. It doesn’t compromise on the essence of adventure while providing a fulfilling experience of the Himalayan beauty. As an alternative, the Royal Trek and Sikles Village Kori Trek beckons with equally rewarding and captivating experiences, ensuring that the adventurous spirit finds its path in Nepal.

Unforgettable Memories and Expert Guidance:

Joining the Panchase Trek is not just a physical journey; it’s an invitation to let the mountains and charming villages of Nepal etch memories that linger a lifetime. The journey is not without challenges, but expert guides stand ready to ensure safety and comfort throughout. The expedition commences from your Pokhara hotel, a testament to the seamless planning that goes into crafting an unforgettable experience.

Pokhara to Panchase Distance:

The logistics of the Panchase trek are as intriguing as the journey itself. The direct distance from Pokhara to Panchase, a mere 30 kilometers (18.6 miles), belies the intricacies of the trekking route. The undulating nature of the trail, coupled with elevation changes, elongates the actual trekking distance. While the trek spans two days with overnight stays at Bhumdi Guest House and Open Heart Guest House, the total distance typically falls within the range of 40-45 kilometers (25-28 miles).

It’s crucial to note that these figures are estimations, subject to variables like the specific route chosen, any side trips taken, and the individual’s hiking pace. The trek isn’t just about covering ground; it’s about navigating the nuances of nature’s terrain, and understanding the ebb and flow of the landscape that unfolds with every step.

In conclusion, the Panchase Trek is more than a checklist item for avid trekkers; it’s an odyssey into the heart of Nepal’s natural and cultural heritage. Every step is a story, every vista a painting, and every village a chapter in the tale of Panchase. As you lace up your boots and set forth on this journey, be prepared to not just witness but to be a part of the living narrative that is Panchase.

Best time to do Panchase Trekking

Any time of the year is perfect for going on a trek in this region. But Autumn and Spring season are considered the best time to do Panchase Trekking. While Winter and Monsoon are the least preferred season for trekking.

You can know more about these seasons in brief down below:

Autumn Season

This season is considered the peak season for Panchase trekking. The months of September, October, and November fall under the Autumn season. It is the most crowded time of the year.

Many trekkers visit during this season as the weather and temperature are favorable. It is neither too hot nor too cold, warm during the days and a bit chilly during the night.

The temperature tends to range from 17 degrees to 25 degrees during these months. Also, the already bloomed vegetation of flora and fauna looks awesome throughout the trails.

Spring Season

This season is another peak season after Autumn for Trekking to Panchase. The months of March, April, and May fall under the Spring Season. The routes are crowded with nature during these months.

The weather conditions are nice during this time, as it is sunny during the day and a bit breezy during the night. As for the temperature it ranges from 19 degrees to 5 degrees .

During the early months of this season, nature tends to get its beauty back as you can see the forests get their lost greenery back. Also, the flower buds getting ready to bloom makes the trek quite remarkable.

Winter Season

This season is the off-season time for Trekking to Panchase. The months of December, January, and February fall under the Winter season. These months are the coldest time of the year.

The temperature tends to range from -3 degrees to 6 degrees during these months. It gets very cold but there are low chances of snowfall occurring in Panchase.

The skies are crystal clear giving out the most beautiful view of snow-covered mountain peaks. The weather is warm during the day time but can be freezing cold as night falls.

So, don’t forget to carry warm clothes for this season.

Monsoon Season

This season is the least preferred time to do Panchase Trekking. The months of June, July, and August fall under the Monsoon Season. These months are when heavy rainfall occurs making the paths challenging to walk.

Due to continuous rainfall, the paths are muddy, slippery and filled with hordes of leches. Also, the peaks are covered with dark rain clouds hiding the magnificent mountain view.

Also, the temperature ranges from 20 degrees to 25 degrees during this time. The weather is hot and humid during these months.

There are high chances of floods and landslides blocking the trek paths. So be careful while trekking during this season.

How Difficult is the Route of Panchase Trek?

This trek can be done with your family members. And has been graded as an easy to moderate level climb. Thus, the routes are not very harsh and you can complete this trek with proper training.

If this is your first trek then it can be a bit difficult as you have to walk about 5 to 6 hours a day. And make many up and downhill walks so you need to have a healthy body and mindset.

You can increase your stamina with physical training such as cycling, running, short hikes, swimming, etc. This trek does not require any technical training.

Is Altitude Sickness a Problem in this Trek?

This is a lower altitude trek so you do not have to worry about suffering from altitude sickness. As the highest point of this trek is situated at an altitude of 2500 m.

But you need to drink plenty of water and keep your body hydrated. Also, carry energy bars and drinks. And walk slowly as walking fast can make your body lose energy pretty fast.

Best Season to Trek in Nepal:

Autumn ( September - November ) and spring ( March - May ) is the best season for trekking and mountaineering in Nepal. Weather is mostly clear and temperature is moderate in these seasons which offer beautiful views without any obstruction. Spring grants you beautiful flowers, plants and rare animals. Walking is favorable during these seasons.

Summer (June - August) and winter (December - February).

Though summer has heavy monsoon rainfall, it is very much clearer to trek around Mustang, Dolpo and Nar- Phu valley since they are rain shadow areas. Everest, Langtang, Annapurna as well as Tibet trek are always better to trek in winter season.

Experience & Fitness:

Trekking can be challenging and exhausting. So you might need some fitness training and experience for some tough trial. Nepal Trekking in Everest Base Camp does not require past experience or extreme fitness even though we have more challenging routes in different region compared to that of Everest. Trekking in Himalayas always takes us to challenging altitudes and rocky routes. You could ask for proper rest time and acclimatization to sustain your strength. Mountains can never be achieved in a day. We always provide the detail in our itinerary. However certain training like running, skipping and other workouts will definitely be beneficial in such challenging routes.

Acclimatization:

Altitude sickness is a major risk when trekking. You might experience it on any trails above 2,500 m however; good health, proper care and drinking plenty of water will definitely help you to prevent from altitude sickness. Every trekkers needs to be familiar with the heights and altitude so, for this we have life saving appropriate acclimatization days during the trek, We also provide certain medical support for your relief and emergency rescue through helicopter whenever the situation gets worse.

Eco Friendly:

Our only goal in the Himalayas is to leave the memories and foot prints; Himalayan Magic Treks is concerned on environment pollution issue and global warming. We collect the rubbish and dump it to the proper place to protect our environment and also appeal our clients to do the same. We partake in every program conducted in KEEP (Kathmandu Environmental Education Project) and other environmental conservation programs. We want to promote Safe environment act and stand against pollution & global warming.

Tailor-Made Itinerary:

Sometimes trekking in the Himalayan region passes through unexpected complication like natural calamity, health challenges and many other problems that might result to the changes of the itinerary. So, we kindly request you to cooperate with your guide and the team in such situation.
