Here's the prize money payout for each golfer at the 2021 DP World Tour Championship

Collin Morikawa had a good grip on the Race to Dubai title coming into the DP World Tour Championship, regardless of his play over the weekend in Dubai. And yet, the 24-year-old American didn’t want to hear anything of it, instead focusing on winning the tournament proper, which as he said would take care of everything else.

Come Sunday at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, Morikawa did just that, posting a bogey-free six-under 66—propelled by five birdies on the back nine—to win the title in the European Tour season finale by three shots. In the process, he made history by becoming the first U.S. player ever to win the tour’s season-long points title.

To the winner goes the spoils. The RtD title comes with a $1 million bonus for Morikawa. But the tournament win was even more lucrative. The overall purse for this Rolex Series event in Dubai was $9 million with the winner claiming a $3 million prize money payout.

European Tour - Career Money List

List of players who are, or have at any time in their careers been, members of the European Tour, compiled during each Official Season . Total prize money earned in a member's career from 31st December 1984 to the present day DP World Tour .

From the start of the 2005 Official Season a player must be in Membership and feature in the final DP World Tour Rankings for earnings to be credited to him.

European Tour purse payout percentages and distribution

The DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) has a standard formula for payout percentages and distribution its purse and prize money for almost every event. If there's a cut where 65 or more players make the final round or rounds of the tournament, there's standard table of payout percentages and distribution.

The winner of a DP World Tour event gets 17 percent of the purse. Typically, the second place player gets 11 percent of the total purse. Then it goes on like that, all the way down to 65th place, which gets 0.24 percent of the total purse.

There are a few situations where the European Tour doesn't follow its standard purse payout and distribution formula:

• If the field has no cut, then the winner still gets 17 percent, but the money that would typically be paid out all the way to 65th place is redistributed to the field, giving them more money
• If the field has a cut and more than 65 players make the weekend -- regardless if there's a secondary cut or not -- the European Tour divides the purse differently to pay out to players who made the cut

European Tour rebranding to DP World Tour, doubling prize money starting in 2022

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- After 50 years, the European Tour by name is no more.

Starting in 2022, it will be rebranded as the DP World Tour in a deal that is set to double the total prize money to more than $200 million.

European Tour chief executive Keith Pelley said the title change better reflects the global nature of the tour.

On the 2022 schedule, only 23 of the 47 events will be staged on European soil.

"In many ways, it's a misnomer," Pelley said of the European Tour's current title. "We are definitely a world tour."

"We will always remember our heritage," Pelley added, "and those who have gone before us who helped us shape our tour ... but we also rejoice in our global footprint."

Pelley said there will be a minimum prize fund of $2 million for each tournament and prize money of "north of $200 million" for the season, compared to $104 million in 2021 and $70 million in 2020.

The deal is a huge boost to the finances of the European Tour that were badly hit by the coronavirus pandemic, causing a shutdown of the tour for three months beginning in March 2020.

The European Tour nearly a year ago announced a strategic alliance with the PGA Tour after one of the proposed new leagues had offered to take over Europe. The Scottish Open is now part of the PGA Tour, while European members have access to two U.S. tour events. More collaboration is possible in the fall months.

Meanwhile, Greg Norman is leading a new company called LIV Golf Investments, backed by Saudi Arabia's public investment fund, which is putting $200 million into 10 new tournaments on the Asian Tour. Those events and where they are played have not been announced.

The new tournaments do not include the Saudi International, which is no longer part of the European Tour schedule after three years ago and since signed a deal with the Asian Tour.

In a video message, four-time major champion Rory McIlroy said the deal was "great news for global golf."

Tommy Fleetwood, who was the Race to Dubai champion in 2017, said it provided "stability" and "excitement" to golfers on the tour.

DP World, a Dubai-based logistics company, has sponsored the season-ending event on the European Tour, which has been held in Dubai since 2009 and called "The Race to Dubai." It was previously the "Order of Merit."

The European Tour was founded in 1972, but events have been increasingly held outside the continent in recent years, with many of the biggest now staged in the Middle East.

So far in 2023, the top 100 prize money leaders on the Ladies European Tour (LET) have won just over  €14.5 million euros , with  Celine Boutier of France currently leading the 2023 money list after she won The Amundi Evian Championship and the Women’s Scottish Open in 2023.

AUGUSTA, Ga. — It pays to play well in major championships, just ask this week’s winner, Scottie Scheffler .

The 27-year-old won the 2024 Masters Tournament on Sunday at 11 under by four shots over Ludvig Aberg to claim his second major title and second victory at Augusta National Golf Club in three years. Scheffler shot rounds of 66-72-71-68 to assert his dominance in professional golf and solidify his spot as the No. 1 player in the world.

For his efforts, Scheffler will take home the top prize of $3.6 million, a record-high winner’s share in 2024. Aberg, who teed it up in his first major championship this week, will bank $2.16 million as a consolation prize. The trio of players to finish T-3 at 4 under – Tommy Fleetwood, Max Homa and Collin Morikawa – each earned six figures with $1,040,000.

Thanks to nine wins in two years, Scottie Scheffler is now 10th all-time on PGA Tour's money list

AUGUSTA, Ga. — There's winning and then there's winning at the right time. Scottie Scheffler is doing both.

With his second Masters victory, good for $3.6 million, Scheffler has amassed $57,658,464 in career on-course earnings on the PGA Tour. That figure has put him into the top 10 all-time .

Scheffler's second major triumph bumps Justin Thomas down to No. 11 and puts him right on the heels of No. 9 Matt Kuchar. Tiger Woods leads the list at $120 million and Scheffler has a long way to go but he's about halfway there as a six-year veteran.

Then again, Scheffler is playing in this big-money era of signature events and elevated purses, but to his credit, he's also winning the bigger-money events.

His nine wins include two Masters, two Players (the richest event on the PGA Tour), two Arnold Palmer Invitationals, two WM Phoenix Opens (one of which was a signature event) as well as a Match Play.

2024 Masters odds, field: Surprising PGA picks, predictions from top-rated golf model that's nailed 10 majors

Sportsline's proven model simulated the masters 2024 10,000 times and revealed its pga golf picks for augusta national.

The first 2024 Masters tee times were pushed to 10:30 a.m. ET on Thursday due to inclement weather. After failing to move into the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking and not qualifying under any other criteria, Akshay Bhatia needed a win last week at the Valero Texas Open to make it into the 2024 Masters field. With the pressure on, Bhatia put on the performance of his life, going wire-to-wire before surviving a late scare from Denny McCarthy to win in a playoff. Now, the field is set for the 88th Masters and play will begin on Thursday at Augusta National Golf Club.

Bhatia is a 75-1 longshot in the 2024 Masters odds, while world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is the 13-4 favorite after collecting two wins and a runner-up finish in his last three starts. Other 2024 Masters contenders include Rory McIlroy (10-1), Brooks Koepka (11-1), Jon Rahm (12-1) and Wyndham Clark (15-1). SportsLine's proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament. McClure's model predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000. The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022. In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic. This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend, including the past two Masters. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Top 2024 Masters predictions 

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 Masters: Rory McIlroy, a four-time major champion and one of the co-favorites, fails to complete the career grand slam and barely cracks the top five at Augusta National. We're coming upon a decade since McIlroy's last major win, and he has nearly twice as many missed cuts (seven) at majors over that span than top-three finishes (four). Two of those missed cuts have come over the Irishman's last three Augusta starts. McIlroy has broken par in just two of his last eight rounds at the Masters.

This year hasn't been promising to McIlroy's chances at Augusta, as he has just one top-10 finish against a softer field at the Texas Open. McIlroy's short game has been a catalyst for his struggles, as he ranks 124th in strokes gained: around-the-green and 78th in total putting. His scoring average (actual) on the PGA Tour ranks just 61st, so those metrics don't line up with the second-shortest odds. Thus, the model is avoiding McIlroy in 2024 Masters bets since it doesn't see much value with him at 10-1.

Another surprise: Ludvig Aberg, a 25-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. The 24-year-old Swede was playing collegiately at Texas Tech this time last year, but he's already ascended to No. 9 in the world and has wins on the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour to his credit in well under a year as a professional.

Aberg used the PGA Tour University Rankings to earn exempt status on tour through 2024 and immediately began putting results together before winning the Omega European Masters to earn a spot on the European Ryder Cup team. He added a PGA Tour win at the RSM Classic after helping Europe to a victory and has made the cut in all eight of his PGA Tour starts this year. That includes a t-14th start in Texas last week, an eighth-place finish at the Players Championship and a solo second at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.  See who else to pick here .
