Lionel Brockman Richie, Jr. (born 20 June, 1949) - aka Lionel Richie - is an American singer, songwriter, musician, recorder producer and actor from Albama.

He started out in 1968 as a member of the musical group called Commodores, who were signed to Motown Records.

Richie went on to make his solo debut album in 1982 called "Lionel Richie" with the number one hit on it called "Truly". During his career he has sold over 100 million records worldwide, which made him one of the best selling artists of all time.

His debut album that launched his career made number three on the music charts and sold over four million copies. His second album "Can't Slow Down" sold twice that number and won two Grammy Awards.

Several more Top 10 hits followed for Richie, including "Hello" in 1984, which included his R&B roots as well as being a sentimental love song.

In 2004 Richie appeared on Canadian Idol and performed on the stage. In 2006 Richie hosted the TV show "An Audience with Lionel Richie" and two months later he performed his song "Hello" on the 49th Grammy Awards show.

In 2012 he released his tenth studio album called "Tuskegee", which included 13 of his hit songs performed as duets with some country starts such as Jason Aldean, Willie Nelson and Rascal Flatts. The album got to the top of the Billboard 200 Chart, as well as making it his first number one album there for more than 25 years, it achieved platinum status within just 6 weeks of it being released.

In June 2013, Richie announced on NBC's 'The Today Show' that he was going to launch "All the Hits All Night Long", which was his first North American tour for over a decade. The tour ended in October in California.

Live reviews

I very much enjoyed this concert, as well as the venue. We set on the lawn on the outside (which I was worried about) however the view was still fantastic! There were multiple t-shirt stands, food stands ect. As for lionel richie, it was an amazing show! Many times after an artist has been big for 30 years they sound different, look different and act different, but not lionel. He had us laughing between songs, sad between song, made us reminisce on the good times and the bad. This concert was better than I ever expected it to be and he definately played all the hits, all night long! Cee-lo Green opened for him, which was a pretty good performance to lead into lionel. Chairs were avalable to rent for those of us on the lawn, which made the seating pretty comfortable. Two large screens accompanied Mr. Richie and he was even easy (like sunday morning) to see from far out. Audio quality was great and I would definately recomend seeing him before he is no longer on tour. As for food, there are plenty of options, just prepare to pay a little more than it is worth but that is to be expected. We drove 4 hours and it was definately worth every minute of it.

Lionel Richie was born to entertain. He is a god on stage. Everything about him is so perfect and so beautiful. It's a wonder to behold. I love seeing him up there in his element doing his thing. He has such a wonderful voice that pretty much anyone would be able to place anywhere.

He is one of those American icons that stick with you for a very long time. If you disagree with that then you do not know music at all. I love being able to see him in concert and being able to hear his voice live and in person. The crowd loves him and everyone is so silent and so quietly reverent that it's amazing to witness. As soon as the crowd starts cheering everyone cheers and the sound is deafening. I love the roar of the crowd. Nothing thrills or excites me more than that.

Lionel Richie still has so much raw talent even after all these years. He really is an icon in this day and age, an inspiration to us all. He always looks so expertly dressed and so handsome up there on stage. He really has aged well and it shows in his music.

I just saw Lionel Richie perform at the Golden 1 in Sacramento last night. His voice is as rich and soulful as it ever was and I have been going to his concerts since The Commodores days. Lionel Richie is one of my all time favorite performers. Every concert experience with him is "personal" He engages his audience with his "historic" and almost interactive dialog. Every one of his songs is a "hit" as he has made so many memorable top ten favorites throughout the years. His band mates, although much more youthful these days (no offense Lionel) are just as entertaining. They are so energetic yet make it look easy, as if they're are up there having a great time and just as much fun as the rest of us! I'm already looking forward to my 7th Lionel Richie concert. I just can't get enough of him!

The venue was easy to locate but perhaps too large as not all the songs could be heard. My friend and I were sat high up and heard more base than voice as a result didn't really enjoy (hear) all of the concert. We arrived just in time for Lionel so didn't witness a sound check which was probably engineered as a matter of course.

A funny moment shorty after the arrival to our seats, a gentleman had beer poured on his head which was surely by accident given the price charged at these venues. LOl

Ansonsten gibt's nichts auszusetzen tolle Location gutes Wetter nette Leute

It was a very good concert overall. I'd like to have been able to hear the singers voice a bit better. It was drowned out by increasing instrumental tones. Lionel Richie's voice still soothes the soul.

Next time attending any concert at this location, I'll be sure to be in the chairs in front of the stage rather than deal with drunken folks spilling wine on me twice while stumbling over the bleacher styled seating.

Lionel Richie is a great performer, very personable, entertaining, and of course, a wonderful artist. He engages the audience through most of his show. This is the second time I've seen him at Red Rocks, west of Denver, and each time it is over the top. I personally would have loved for him to sing songs without the audience singing parts of the songs.

Fabulous night Lionel Ritchie gave the crowd exactly what they wanted. All his hits delivered perfectly. He engaged with the audience which was lovely. The weather challenged him but Hey outside concerts in Wales anytime of year can be dodgy I will now always think of Colwyn Bay as'Cold Wind Bay' Really great Concert cheers Lionel.

Sorry but although he has a great stage presence, he can no longer sing. Felt like leaving after a few songs . Charging me 172 00 for 102.00 worth of actual lawn seats. It was my first time at Ravinia, a beautiful place. Really Do not understand how you can charge so much more.

Richie’s song catalog also includes his early work with The Commodores, where he developed a groundbreaking style that defied genre, penning smashes such as “Three Times a Lady,” “Still,” and “Easy.” Richie is one of only two solo songwriters who has written eight number one hits that made the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

A dedicated philanthropist, in 2019 Richie was named Global Ambassador and first Chairman of the Global Ambassador Group for The Prince’s Trust, a charity founded by King Charles III. They’ve released 23 albums; eight of those albums went Double Platinum and hit the Top 10, making them one of the best-selling artists of all time. They’ve won an impressive nine GRAMMY® Awards including one for Lifetime Achievement (2012). In 2000, Earth, Wind & Fire was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, cementing their lasting impact on popular music and, in 2019, their contributions to arts and culture was acknowledged in Washington DC with the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors.

Lionel Richie on Hits Tour, Gibberish Lyrics and the Legend of ‘Hello’

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

Lionel Richie is launching his most extensive American tour in years this month, and he wants his fans to know the show will be extremely heavy on songs they know and love. He’s even called the tour All the Hits All Night Long . “I’ve been around artists that say, ‘I just won’t play my hits. I’ll play something new,'” he says. “That’s why I’m saying it’s all the hits all night. This is just back-to-back karaoke on steroids.”

Lionel Richie Moves 20,000 CDs in One Hour on HSN

We spoke to Richie about the tour (featuring special guest Cee Lo), his enduring global appeal, the possibility of a Commodores reunion, what the gibberish means in “All Night Long” and the infamous video for “Hello.”

What’s going on right now as you’re prepping for this tour? First off, we finished a Pacific Rim tour about three-and-a-half weeks ago. They said I’d have all this time off, but it’s taken me that long to get over the jet lag. But the truth is that we’re ready for the tour. It’s just a matter of tweaking the show a bit. We’ve been touring since 1978. People always say that I haven’t been touring. The truth is that I just haven’t been touring America.

How do you put together a set list for a tour like this? You cross your fingers and hope you nailed it. The good news is that we have probably more than four hours of music. Trying to pick between them is the hard part. We have to go back and figure out the party songs, the marriage songs, where did you just go to college … We have a pretty good list. We also have to back ourselves up and prepare about ten audibles just in case we get to a certain place and they start screaming for a song we aren’t quite ready for. We’ll have an arsenal of favorite songs and other songs.

I see you’ve been playing a lot of Commodores material.   I tried for years to say that I wouldn’t play much Commodores stuff. Then I realized any artist that wouldn’t play the old stuff was just shooting themselves in the head. People want to hear the whole package. In other words, if you’re lucky enough to start in a group and then go solo, people want to hear everything you’ve done. They want every part of your career.

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

It’s clear you have a bigger audience in Europe than in America. How did that happen? For some weird and wonderful reason, Europe has this sort of reputation. It takes forever to get the Germans, but once you get them they never leave you. That’s true for France and many other countries over there. It’s also due to the fact that we just kept coming back. It’s the same with Japan and Australia. Those songs are a part of their lives, just like in America.

The only reason I stayed away from America is because rap came in so strong. That’s when I said, “OK, do we stay in America or do we solidify the rest of the world?” That’s why we spent so much time in Europe and Asia. America was going through a transition, so we had to make sure we were solid in the rest of the world. But thank God, now that I’m coming back to America, I’m finding out that the audiences never left. In fact, they want to see us now more than ever.

And they’re bringing their kids. That’s right. We’re playing Bonnaroo this summer and we played ACL last year. There was a 19-year-old kid in the front row with an AC/DC shirt on. He was singing along to every word. I said, “Where did this guy come from?”

Come for the Torture, Stay for the Poetry: This Might Be Taylor Swift's Most Personal Album Yet

Taylor swift unveils double album ‘the tortured poets department: the anthology’, dickey betts, allman brothers band singer-guitarist, dead at 80, taylor swift busts out the quill pen and delivers an epic double album with 'ttpd: the anthology'.

You took a 10-year break from releasing new albums in 1986, right at the peak of your career. What exactly was your reasoning behind that?   Well, it wasn’t planned. The only reason I stopped is because my father got sick. I knew if I did another album I’d have to go on tour. At the time, I’d done the album/tour thing for 20 years in a row. I said, “Let me just deal with dad here for a moment.” I didn’t realize he was going to die. It turned into a three-and-a-half-year struggle.

At the same time, I went through a divorce. And because of the stress and pressure of all that, I had my first vocal surgery. It was a one-two-three punch and it freaked me out. I took a real psychological toll because I didn’t know if I’d ever sing again. I spent years just waddling in disgust. And then all of a sudden I woke up one day and said, “Let’s get out of town. I’m never stopping again.”

Lionel Richie, Diana Ross to Headline Inaugural Fool in Love Festival

He was the 'secret weapon' of 'we are the world.' 39 years later, here's his story, christina aguilera, lionel richie, maluma, more to present at 2024 grammys.

Tell me the story of how you wrote the “jambo jambo” lines in “All Night Long.”   I needed some words in Swahili or African something that said “infectious partying.” I called my dear friend from Jamaica, Dr. Lloyd Greig and said, “What does Bob Marley mean when he sings ‘Huah jaa huah jeebee goo?” He said, “That means absolutely nothing, man. That means nothing.” So I called some friends at the UN. I told them what I needed. They said, “Lionel, there are 101 African dialects.” I said, “Wait, does one tribe not know what the other is saying?” And he says, “Absolutely.”

After that, I hung up the phone and just made it up. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve traveled the world and people go, “Oh my God, Lionel, the fact the put mambo with mumbo jumbo…” They’re telling me what it means and I don’t want to tell them it doesn’t mean anything to me!

I feel like every time I turn on VH1 Classic there’s some different snarky show making fun of the video for “Hello.” Do you ever get tired of everyone making fun of that thing? No. You’ve got to spoof it. Even I go back and look at it and go, “Really? Did I work on having hair like that?”

The story behind that is really simple. [Director] Bob Giraldi shocked me on “Hello.” It was a straightforward love story and he said, “No I’m gonna make the girl blind.” I said, “Why do we have to go that heavy? Just make it a love story.”

Then I get to the video shoot and there’s this God-awful looking clay model of my head. I said, “Bob, this doesn’t look like me.” He said, “OK, we’ll do the scene and we’ll talk about this later, Lionel.” We get to scene two and I said, “Bob, I see the bust here. It doesn’t look like me.” He says, “Scene two, now we’re getting closer.” It happens again with scene three and then finally we’re getting right to shoot the scene where I discover that she’s done it. I say, “Bob, it doesn’t look like me.” And he looks at me and says, “Lionel, she’s blind!” [ Huge laughter ] And I said, “OK, I get it.”

Have you ever thought about reforming the Commodores or maybe bringing them onto your tour as guests of some sort?   I’ve been testing the waters. Believe it or not, it can be hard to get five guys onstage. We lost Milan Williams, the keyboard player, to cancer. Over the years, I’ve experimented with guys. I said, “Let me just get three of them.” We’ve done a couple of shows together. But to get the other two, if I could pull that off, I will be the miracle worker of life. I’m not going to say no. I’m just gonna say, if it’s in the clouds it’s gonna happen.

The other two just don’t want to do it? No. There’s two ways to look at this. Somedays I feel like it’s what Paul McCartney said: “The memories of the Beatles are better than the Beatles.” It’s a superstition that’s haunting us. On the other hand, you have to pull away the 30 years of whatever you are thinking about each other. You have to forget about it and just come on stage.

Then again, when you’re in a group, you have to understand it’s hard to break those old guys. No one cares anymore about whatever you were mad at 30 years ago. No one cares. That’s called the group thing. Every group experiences that stupid kind of paralysis.

Right. I guess with many groups, resentments just fester for decades. Yeah. I call it the stupid gene. You say group, you automatically inherit that stupid gene.

Do you see yourself still on the road in 20 years , still playing in your 80s like Chuck Berry ?   You have to have a marker. There are a couple of guys that set the marker. I used to hang around George Burns, and I kept asking him, “When are you going to retire?” He had a great line. He said, “Stay booked, kid. Don’t ever stop being booked. You’ll live as long as you’re booked.” That’s number one. The next marker is, “How old is Paul McCartney? How old are the Rolling Stones? How about Chuck Berry?”  If they ever decide to let it go, I’ll know what the marker is.

Every time a Beatle goes, “I enjoy doing this,” I think, “Me too. Let’s keep it going.” As long as you’re healthy and you love doing it, I can’t think of retiring and going fishing or bowling. I think I would probably pass away if I did that.

Lionel Richie is an award-winning American singer-songwriter known for creating numerous hits, both with the Commodores and as a solo artist.

1949-present

Hit Albums and Songs

What is lionel richie’s net worth, career with the commodores, relationships and children, american idol judge, tuskegee boy, later albums and return to the charts with tuskegee, tours and las vegas residency, awards and honors, who is lionel richie.

Born in 1949, singer-songwriter Lionel Richie grew up in Tuskegee, Alabama. He was a founding member of the Commodores, a top R&B act of the 1970s, before finding success as a solo artist with the No. 1 single "Truly," from his self-titled debut album. More hits soon followed, including "Hello" and "Dancing on the Ceiling." In 1985, he co-wrote the famine relief song "We Are the World" with Michael Jackson . Richie's later albums include Louder than Words (1996) and Coming Home (2006). He enjoyed renewed chart success with his 2012 country album, Tuskegee, and was named a judge for the 2018 reboot of American Idol .

Having already demonstrated his songwriting chops with the Commodores, and by penning the hit ballads "Lady" (for Kenny Rogers ) and "Endless Love" (sung with Diana Ross ), Lionel Richie launched his self-titled solo album in 1982. He hit the jackpot with the lead single, "Truly," which surged to No. 1 late in the year, while "You Are" and "My Love" also landed inside the Billboard Top 5.

Can’t Slow Down

Richie's next effort, 1983's Can't Slow Down , featured the energetic pop hit "All Night Long" as well as the dreamy ballad "Hello," which featured one of the enduring music videos of the time. The success of this project, which won Richie a Grammy for Album of the Year, helped cement his status as one of music's biggest stars. He performed "All Night Long" at the closing ceremony of the 1984 Olympic Games, held in Los Angeles, California.

Dancing on the Ceiling

Richie's third solo album, Dancing on the Ceiling (1986), led off with his Academy Award-winning number "Say You, Say Me," from the 1985 movie White Nights . Its title track gave Richie another No. 1 hit and produced another popular video, while the follow-up singles "Love Will Conquer All" and "Ballerina Girl" also cracked the Billboard Top 10.

“We Are the World”

Additionally, between his second and third albums, Richie teamed with Michael Jackson to pen the charity single "We Are the World." With industry luminaries like Ray Charles , Bruce Springsteen , Stevie Wonder and Tina Turner joining the cause, "We Are the World" became one of the biggest hits in history, going on to sell more than 20 million copies.

Richie's net worth was estimated to be $200 million in 2013. That same year, the IRS issued a tax lien against him for unpaid taxes, which the artist promised would be "handled immediately."

A founding member of the Commodores in the late 1960s, Richie played saxophone and piano and contributed vocals for the R&B group, its growing success in the late 1970s correlating with his developing skills as a songwriter. Richie wrote some of the group's biggest hits, including the ballads "Easy" and "Three Times a Lady," and co-wrote the funk anthem "Brick House."

Richie married his first wife, Brenda Harvey, in 1975. However, their relationship grew strained over the years, leading to an ugly incident in which she was arrested for assaulting him in 1988. They were divorced by 1993. He then remarried two years later, to Diane Alexander, but that union also ended in divorce in 2004.

In the years between chart hits, the crooner became better known as the father of Nicole Richie , his adopted daughter with his first wife. Nicole often appeared in the tabloids with her friend Paris Hilton , with whom she starred on the reality show The Simple Life . She later settled down with musician Joel Madden, giving Lionel his first grandkids.

Richie also has two children with Alexander, son Miles and daughter Sophia, both models.

In 2017, it was announced that Richie would be a judge on the 2018 reboot of the singing-competition show American Idol , alongside pop princess Katy Perry and country hunk Luke Bryan .

The industry veteran seemed ready to throw himself into his role: "For two days a week, Professor Richie is going to talk about the reality of what it takes to be an artist," he told The New York Times . "Instead of sitting here moaning about how the world has changed since I started, I'm going to tell them what it takes. You think it's just singing? No, it's not. What kind of style do you have? What kind of stamina do you have? How many times can you take 'No'? How many times can you come back? That’s an artist."

The Richie-Bryan-Perry triumvirate proved a winning combination for season 16 of the series, with all three returning as judges for seasons 17 and 18.

Lionel Brockman Richie was born on June 20, 1949, in Tuskegee, Alabama. He grew up at the Tuskegee Institute, where two generations of his family worked (including his grandfather, who knew Booker T. Washington ). As he explained to Esquire , the school and surrounding community provided a warm and supportive environment for the young Richie: "I was born and raised in a community where if somebody can't eat, the whole town goes to feed him," he said.

Early on, Richie toyed with the idea of becoming a priest, but music proved to be his true calling.

Following a lengthy hiatus from the studio, Richie unveiled his fourth album, Louder Than Words , in 1996. He continued recording at a steady pace after that, releasing Time (1998), Renaissance (2000), Just for You (2004), Coming Home (2006) and Just Go (2009), to mixed reviews and sales.

However, with Tuskegee (2012), the artist finally enjoyed a return to prominence. Teaming mainly with country-music stars like Blake Shelton , Shania Twain and Willie Nelson , Richie delivered new versions of his greatest hits, propelling the album to the top spot on the Billboard 200.

Showing no signs of slowing down, Richie continued to perform steadily into his 60s, launching the two-year All the Hits, All Night Long Tour in 2013.

He carried that same theme to a Lionel Richie - All the Hits residency at Las Vegas in 2016, continuing his run there between stints at other venues, with artists like Mariah Carey .

In December 2017, Richie earned recognition for his standout career as one of the year's Kennedy Center honorees, along with Gloria Estefan , LL Cool J , Norman Lear and Carmen de Lavallade.

In March of the following year, he joined another exclusive club with a handprint ceremony outside the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles.

lionel richie tour musicians

Today, legendary singer, songwriter and producer Lionel Richie announced the extension of his Sing A Song All Night Long tour with very special guests and one of the best-selling bands of all time, Earth, Wind & Fire. Produced by Live Nation, the 2024 13-date run of shows kicks off on Thursday, May 23 in Knoxville at Thompson Boling Arena, with stops in Jacksonville, Memphis, Kansas City, Columbus and more before wrapping up on Sunday, June 16 in Pittsburgh at PPG Paints Center.

The 2024 dates follow a highly successful 2023 sold-out 20-date run of the Sing A Song All Night Long tour which made its way through North America with stops in Chicago, Boston, Toronto, San Francisco, Los Angeles and more.

2023 was another pivotal year for music icon Lionel Richie, who has sold over 125 million albums. He was recently inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, won the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song by the Library Congress and was honored at Kennedy Center Honors. Richie has served as a judge on ABC’s “American Idol,” for the past six seasons and will return for its 7th season, set to debut in February 2024.

With over 100 million albums sold worldwide and an impressive nine GRAMMY® Awards, Earth, Wind & Fire has cemented their lasting impact on popular music as they continue to inspire new audiences and thrill those who have been with them from the beginning. Most recently, the legendary musical group earned their 27th career GRAMMY® nomination for Best Traditional R&B Performance as a featured artist on Victoria Monét’s song “Hollywood.” These two iconic artists have now sold a combined quarter billion albums worldwide.

International superstar Lionel Richie boasts a discography of albums and singles that is second to none. With more than 125 million albums sold worldwide, an Oscar®, Golden Globe®, and four Grammy Awards®*, Richie has been honored with distinctions including 2016 MusicCares Person of the Year, 2017 Kennedy Center Honors, and the 2022 Gershwin Prize for Popular Song by the Library of Congress. In 2022, he was both inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and received the 2022 American Music Awards Icon Award, his 18th AMA award. The legendary singer, songwriter, producer, and Tuskegee, Alabama native is a true music icon.

Richie is known for his mega hits such as “Endless Love,” “Lady,” “Truly,” “All Night Long,” “Penny Lover,” “Stuck on You,” “Hello,” “Say You, Say Me,” and “Dancing on the Ceiling.” He co-wrote the 1985 song “We Are the World,” recorded by the history-making supergroup USA for Africa.

In this role, Richie supports the charity as it sets to work on a new global remit, tackling issues such as youth education and unemployment, supporting indigenous youth and helping build sustainable communities. Richie was also honored at 2019’s Annual Power of Love Gala in Las Vegas for his support of Keep Memory Alive, the Cleveland Clinic’s center for improving the lives of those affected by brain disorders.

In April 2016, Richie launched his headline residency show in Las Vegas: “Lionel Richie—All the Hits.” In an unforgettable evening featuring his trademark era-defining anthems, Richie took his fans on a one-of-a-kind musical journey, performing hit-after-hit of his legendary songs. In 2024, Richie continues this historic residency, now at the Wynn Encore Theater, in “Lionel Richie: King of Hearts.”

In 2023, Richie concluded his acclaimed 20-city “Sing A Song All Night Long” arena tour featuring special guests—one of the best-selling bands of all time—Earth, Wind & Fire. The tour kicked off in St. Paul, with stops across North America in Chicago, Toronto, and New York, and finished with a showstopping performance at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Richie has served as a judge on ABC’s “American Idol,” for the past six seasons and will return for its 7th season, set to debut in spring 2024.

Earth, Wind & Fire are a music institution. In 1969, music legend Maurice White birthed the music force named after the elements from his very own astrological charts. With soul as deep as the planet, Earth, Wind & Fire charted a history that will live on forever. They’ve scored eight number one hits and have sold more than 100 million albums worldwide.

The music of Earth, Wind & Fire is more alive than ever as they continue to inspire new audiences and thrill those who have been with them from the beginning. Like the elements in their name, Earth, Wind & Fire’s music has withstood ever-changing trends in the world and shows no sign of vanishing as they continue to create joy and uplifting music that will forever reach a sacred universal atmosphere. From the funky and infectious “Let’s Groove” to the timeless dance classic “September” to the heartfelt “Reasons,” Earth, Wind & Fire’s catalog of hits has become the soundtrack to many lives; now, then and forever.

Music Icon Lionel Richie Makes A Trip Home to Tuskegee to Open Hello Park

T USKEGEE, Ala. (WTVM) - Music legend, Lionel Richie is a native of Tuskegee and his song “Hello” is just one of his many hits. The new “Hello Park” is now open and sits right next to his childhood home.

This has been Ritchie’s dream for many years and he chose Lowe’s Hometowns to partner with to make it a reality.

“As time went on this became and open field and I thought, what do we do with this? Well, because of it’s location, it’s right across the great gates. So I said ‘let’s do this. Let’s put this together,’” said Richie.

Richie says Tuskegee University has a special place in his heart and so do all the students.

“I want them to understand, there is a place where I had a dream. There is a place where I had to put my life together in terms of who I want to be and where I want to go. I want this to be an example of, It starts right here in Tuskegee but the whole world is waiting for you,” he said.

Just like Richie’s music that people have enjoyed for decades, the mission of Lowe’s Hometowns is to create a space for everyone to enjoy. Regional Vice President of Lowe’s, Sly Renard, says that has been their mission for over 100 years.

“When we think about hometowns, it’s extended beyond the four walls of a typical home, but also to the communities around America,” said Renard.

Renard says Hometowns has invested 100 million dollars into these projects over the next five years, some of those in other part of Alabama and Georgia.

“We really want to thank Mr. Richie for selecting us as a partner for this. And then thank our architects and nation partners who help us do these hometowns across the country. And really, thanks to the community. That’s what we’re here for,” Renard said.

“Just sit here for a moment and dream. This is the place to do it,” said Richie.

It was a quick trip home for Ritchie, but as for Hello Park, it is officially open and here to stay.

After a massive slump during COVID , the concert industry is again sh-boom, sh-booming! The gross for the top 100 North American tours in 2023 reached $6.63 billion, up 39.5 percent over 2022, with attendance nearly doubling, to 15,008 per show, according to Pollstar.

And this year is shaping up to be another box office blowout. Despite the national outrage over price spikes for eggs, airfare and gas , music lovers seem immune to ticket shock. Ticket prices climbed 22 percent last year, to an average of $135.88, compared to $111.49 in 2022. And the trend is pointing skyward.

Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour and Beyonce’s “Renaissance World” tour ranked first and second last year, but boomer acts remain the tour circuit’s lucrative and reliable summer tentpole, delivering packed arenas and sheds year after year as fans flock to relish the oldies and rekindle the past.

Here are the acts to catch this sunny season.

Heart (April 20–May 24, Aug. 10–Nov. 22)

Sisters Ann Wilson, 73, and Nancy Wilson, 70, haven’t released an album since 2016’s Beautiful Broken , but they have decades of hits, including “Magic Man,” “Barracuda,” “These Dreams” and “Alone,” to draw from on their “Royal Flush” tour . Cheap Trick opens.

Kenny Chesney (April 20–Aug. 23)

After hitting arenas last year, country star Chesney, 56, has booked 18 stadiums for shows with openers including the Zac Brown Band, Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker, his duet partner on chart-topper “When the Sun Goes Down.” All but one of the shows are on Saturdays.

Billy Joel (April 26–Nov. 9)

The Piano Man, 74, has scheduled only 13 dates , four of them at New York’s Madison Square Garden, so ticket stampedes are likely. Fans are curious to know if “Turn the Lights Back On,” Joel’s first single in 17 years, will be added to his hit-heavy repertoire.

The Rolling Stones (April 28–July 17)

Mick Jagger , 80, Keith Richards, 80, Ron Wood, 76, and company continue their global “Hackney Diamonds” tour , named after last year’s highly praised album , the group’s first batch of originals since 2005’s  A Bigger Bang . Expect  Diamonds  cuts and lots of hits.

Stevie Nicks (May 3–June 21)

Between Fleetwood Mac’s songbook and her own solo catalog, singer-songwriter Nicks, 75, has a huge well of material to draw from as she extends a tour that started in February. She’s been performing crowd favorites “Landslide,” “Dreams,” “Rhiannon” and “Edge of Seventeen” as well as Tom Petty hits in honor of her late friend.

George Strait (May 4–July 20, Dec. 7)

A touring juggernaut, honky-tonk country singer-songwriter Strait, 71, resumes the record-breaking stadium tour he kicked off in 2023. He’s joined by Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town. The King of Country serves up “his own Eras tour, leading a well-curated, decades-spanning set of songs,” according to  Billboard .

Lionel Richie Jokes He and Luke Bryan Will Have to 'Kidnap' Katy Perry After Her American Idol Exit (Exclusive)

"This relationship is forever," Richie tells PEOPLE exclusively

lionel richie tour musicians

Disney/Eric McCandless

Lionel Richie , Katy Perry and Luke Bryan are soaking in every moment of their last season together on American Idol .

Speaking to PEOPLE after Monday night's episode of the singing competition show, the judges opened up about their feelings as Perry's exit from the series approaches.

On Monday night, America voted 10 contestants into the next round and everyone else was left in the danger zone. At the end of the episode, the judges got together and picked four contestants to save and move to the next round. Reflecting on that quick decision-making, the judges say they have it nailed down after seven seasons together.

"We don't really have time [to discuss] in the moment," Bryan, 47, says. "We pretty much have a commercial break to figure it out."

Perry, 39, adds, "I don't know about you but I'm following along the whole time thinking about who I'm going to save. So I'm prepped with my homework, Luke."

The country star adds, "Let's just say she's being a little facetious in that role."

Cutting into their bickering, Richie, 74, grew emotional as he confessed that's what he would miss most after Perry is gone.

"These are some of the things we're going to miss about Ms. Perry," Richie says, as Perry interjects: "Don't cry for me yet."

He continues, "But I'm just going to say truthfully, it's those moments when Luke and Katy get together."

Then, Perry insisted that even though her time on the show is coming to an end — it doesn't mean their bickering is "going to stop."

"I think the group chat is still going to live on forever," the "Firework" singer says, revealing that their group chat name is "The Judgmentals."

The "Hello" singer then joked that he may need to work up a plan to kidnap her — that way she'll never leave.

"We've kind of developed a little family and what's happening now is that we keep talking about her leaving but it hasn't registered yet," he says. "So I think as it goes on, Luke and I will probably get together and realize that we're going to kidnap her."

Richie also says that as someone who's "been here for a hundred years," it's refreshing to work with people like Perry and Bryan.

"What these two have done for me is that they've renewed my faith in mankind because seriously, you can have a train wreck in five minutes. It just takes the wrong attitude, the wrong ego, the wrong misunderstanding, and you've got a train wreck," he says. "And I have had so much fun and I just hope to continue. This relationship is forever."

On Monday night, the judges decided to save contestants Jayna Elise, Jordan Anthony, Nya and Roman Collins. Meanwhile, America voted through Abi Carter, Emmy Russell, Jack Blocker, Julia Gagnon, Kaibrienne, Kayko, Mckenna Faith Brienholt, Mia Matthews, Triston Harper and Will Moseley.

"It's kind of like the clock's ticking, every episode's one more getting closer to the finale where obviously we won't be doing this together," fellow judge Luke Bryan tells ET's Denny Directo after Monday night's live show. "It will be an emotional night. We know that she's not gonna be here. But we've had a hell of a ride. It's been fun."

Judge Lionel Richie would prefer not to think about Perry's exit after seven seasons, telling ET, "I can't talk about that because it's upsetting."

Richie wants Perry to know that despite her exit, there's always a place for her on the ABC music competition show.

"She's built a great family here, and I told her she can come back anytime," he says. "She's got a baby and she's got a family, got new music, and it's going to be amazing. I'm pulling for her. I told her, 'If you need help on the road, Luke and I will be right there.'"

Longtime host Ryan Seacrest echoed the sentiment that Perry could return to the show, saying, "We're gonna miss her. It's not gonna be the same without her, but she's asked to keep the seat warm."

As for a replacement for Perry, the judges and host are hesitant to throw any names out there, but that doesn't mean there aren't stars they've been considering.

"I do have my eye on at least two," Richie admits. "I find myself going back and saying, 'Hey, Katy, what do you think about this? Hey, Luke, what do you think about this?' What we want is somebody with a sense of humor. Talent is talent, sense of humor is everything."

Bryan says he plans to leave the decision making up to the powers that be.

"There's a couple names going around, but I wouldn't even… that is, I let the all-powerful TV people decide that," he quips. "Big shoes to fill. She's always been a big personality. Her personality is what made Katy, Katy. She's unique in that, only one Katy Perry."

As for Perry's take on her final episodes, she says they have "flown by."

"I am always emotional on finale, but gosh when the finale comes, I better just tape the false lashes to my face," she says.

She also explains her decision to leave the hit show.

"I'm just trying to make space for other things," she says. "It's not like me ending this show means I'm going to go retire on an island, even though that would be fabulous. I'm gonna go to work."

New episodes of American Idol air Sundays and Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and stream the next day on Hulu.
