As lockdown restrictions begin to ease across the country and temperatures begin to rise, the first thought on many Londoners' minds will be to plan a getaway - whether it be a postponed honeymoon or a long overdue family holiday .

Jet2holidays , the UK’s leading tour operator to destinations across the Mediterranean and Canary Islands, says it's received strong demand for summer 2022 holidays..

According to their website , bookings data from Jet2holidays found that more people have already booked in some summer sun for the year ahead when compared to the same time in previous years. These include a mixture of beloved favourites and interesting new destinations.

Whilst, all destinations are currently experiencing a spike in demand for next summer, HertsLive reports that three in particular are proving to be particularly popular.

Turkey, Cyprus and Greece have all attracted increased attention from holidaymakers on the tour operator's website, as they look to plan their sunny escapes.

Jet2holidays is set to operate a busy programme for summer 2022 with over 70 sun and city destinations on sale from across its ten UK bases.

Below are the classifications under the proposed traffic light system.

• Green: arrivals will need to take a pre-departure test as well as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test on or before day two of their arrival back into the UK – but will not need to quarantine on return (unless they receive a positive result) or take any additional tests
• Amber: arrivals will need to quarantine for a period of 10 days and take a pre-departure test, as well as a PCR test on day two and day eight. There will be the option to take an additional test on day five to end self-isolation early
• Red: arrivals will be subject to restrictions currently in place for red list countries which include a 10-day stay in a managed quarantine hotel, pre-departure testing and mandatory PCR testing on day two and eight

Here's what you need to know about travelling to one of Jet2holidays three most popular destinations:

The Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel to Turkey at the moment. Direct flights from the UK to Turkey have been temporarily suspended at the beginning of the year.

You can travel to Turkey from the UK via a third country, and passengers who have been in the UK up to 10 days before will have to quarantine for 14 days when they arrive.

Before boarding, all passengers aged six years and above will be required to show a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours before the flight.

Current data suggest that Turkey will be on the 'red' under the criteria, as it stands.

Countries classified as 'amber' will require people to quarantine at home for 10 days after arrival.

High Covid rates in Cyprus mean they are likely to be 'amber' - but it is possible islands will be given their own rating.

Current data suggests Greece is most likely to start on the green or amber list.

Greek authorities have already said the country plans to welcome UK tourists back this summer, with proof of a negative Covid test, vaccine or antibodies.

Visitors will be required to have been vaccinated , had a recent negative Covid-19 test or have coronavirus antibodies.

UK nationals are currently permitted to enter Greece but you'll have to complete a passenger locator form at least 24 hours before travel. If you don't you could face a fine or be denied travel.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport saw the first-ever departure by Jet2.com and Jet2holidays with celebrations to mark this milestone occasion for the airport.

With the full flight leaving for Tenerife, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays officially launched their Summer 2024 programme and began offering award-winning flights and holiday packages from Liverpool. Following this inaugural flight, holidaymakers took off for Lanzarote, one of the most popular sunny destinations for the Easter holidays.

On the first day of travel, there were celebrations at the airport where hundreds of vacationers received VIP treatment, which included a red carpet welcome and personalised gifts. At an exclusive launch event, customers were treated to entertainment by a Beatles tribute band while they waited to board the first flight. Holidaymakers also received prizes and giveaways.

With a fleet of four based aircraft flying customers to a wide choice of destinations across Mainland Spain, the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Portugal, Madeira, and Cyprus, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have a total of 20 sunshine destinations on sale for Summer 24 from Liverpool.

For the operator’s first summer of operation out of Liverpool, this is a major schedule that includes up to 54 weekly flights during peak times and 565,000 seats available for purchase.

Ever since offering flights and holiday packages from Liverpool, independent travel agents and customers have shown an incredible amount of demand for both Jet2.com and Jet2holidays. Consequently, the airline and tour operator have already expanded their Summer 25 itinerary to include additional routes and aircraft.

The companies have also recently announced the launch of their first ever Jet2.com and Jet2CityBreaks Christmas Markets programme from Liverpool John Lennon Airport. Flights and city breaks are now on sale from the airport to Krakow and Prague for Winter 24/25, meaning the companies have a total of ten winter destinations on sale for their first winter of operations from Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

As Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ contracting team continues to grow, the operator’s director of contracting and strategic hotel relationships, John Taylor, shares what life is like on the team – and highlights all the exciting opportunities available

Q: What does your role involve?

A: I have overall responsibility for Jet2holidays’ contracting strategy, with particular focus on growth plans. To help the company grow, I identify and develop key hotel partner and agency relationships, which are the lifeblood of what we do. I am proud to run a department where everyone is committed to developing such strong commercial relationships.

Q: How did you get started in the world of tour operators, and how did you progress?

A: I originally embarked on a career in accountancy, but I quickly realised that I was far more suited to the social aspects of working in travel. My first role in the industry was driving a minibus across Europe to the Greek islands. Then I became a rep at Thomson Holidays and progressed from there.

Q: What are the core skills needed to succeed in contracting?

A: Patience and a great sense of humour are essential! Attention to detail, ability to multitask and a willingness to listen to and understand others’ points of view are also vital skills. We strongly believe that we need to be both present and open-minded when communicating with colleagues and external partners. We deal with a wide variety of people from all walks of life across many different countries, so remaining culturally aware is vital.

Q: How long have you worked for Jet2.com and Jet2holidays ?

A: I joined the company in 2012. Since then, it’s been fantastic to watch the company grow from transporting around 200,000 passengers, with just four in the contracting team, to where we are today. Our most recent Atol licence is for more than 6.7 million, and we now have around 70 people in the contracting team – quite a change from when I first joined.

Q: Can you describe a typical day in the office?

A: There’s no such thing as a typical day when you work in contracting! I often set out a plan for the day, which totally changes when I arrive at the office because, in contracting, we must be flexible and take responsibility to deliver what the business expects from us. We are also heavily focusing on recruitment at the moment. The department has almost doubled over the past year, and we have undergone a restructuring that has led to more opportunities within the department. This is great news not only for our existing colleagues, but also for new joiners looking to advance their career working for the UK’s biggest and best tour operator.

Q: What makes Jet2.com and Jet2holidays a great place to work?

A: Personally, I’ve always found the company to promote an incredibly friendly and open atmosphere. When I speak to our new colleagues, they overwhelmingly comment on the fresh, friendly approach that we have in the office, and the motivation and passion of all members of the team who strive to deliver exceptional customer service. We work in an open-plan office, which allows for constant interaction across the business. We truly work as one team to deliver the “package holidays you can trust” that our customers expect.

Q: What does the future hold for the contracting team at Jet2holidays ?

A: Growth, growth and more growth! As the business expands, we are focused on the continued development of the contracting department and of our team. We know that we have the best contracting team in the industry, and we are excited to bring new talent on board to join us on our journey.

Q: What exciting things are on the horizon for Jet2holidays ?

A: We have our 11 th base launching in Liverpool in the summer of 2024 – this will mean that around 51 million people will live within 90 minutes of one of our bases. We are also launching Morocco as an exciting new destination from October 2024. There may be more exciting news yet to come!
