The United States citizens who are under 16 are eligible for a visa-free regime to visit Uzbekistan without a visa for tourism purposes and stay for a period not exceeding 90 days. VISA-FREE REGIME FOR CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES OLDER THAN 55 YEARS.

In accordance with a Decree of the President of Uzbekistan #PF-4861 from December 2, 2016, a  visa-free regime has been established for citizens of the United States older than 55 years for a maximum stay of 30 days in Uzbekistan  (this information is found on TIMATIC (Travel Information Manual Automatic) which is a database containing documentation requirements for passengers traveling internationally via air, e.g.  passport  and  visa  requirements. Timatic is used by airlines and their representatives (check-in agents, managers, etc.), airport staff, and travel agents to determine whether a passenger can be carried, as well as by airlines and travel agents to provide this information to travelers at the time of booking. This is critical for airlines due to the fines levied by immigration authorities every time a passenger is carried who does not have the correct travel documentation, as well as the airline’s costs to return the incorrectly-boarded passenger to the original airport from which the passenger departed.

Once upon a time, Uzbekistan was a real hassle to visit. Travelers faced labyrinthine and opaque visa processes, expensive letters of invitation and complicated registration requirements. Luckily, those days are long gone. Uzbekistan now makes life as easy as it can for tourists, starting with a streamlined visa process.

With these reforms, it’s never been easier to travel to Tashkent and visit the glorious Silk Road cities of Samarkand , Bukhara and Khiva . Read on to see if you need a visa to visit Uzbekistan and how to go about getting one.

Most nationalities get a one-month visa-free stay

More than 60 nationalities now qualify for visa-free travel to Uzbekistan. Whether entering the country by air or land, most eligible travelers can stay in Uzbekistan for up to a month. Countries covered by the scheme include the UK, EU countries, Turkey, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Israel and most Latin American countries.

Former Soviet countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia are allowed to stay for 90 days visa-free; citizens of Kyrgyzstan get 60 days. Oddly, US citizens over the age of 55 also qualify for visa-free travel, though if you are under 55, you’ll need to apply for a visa.

Note that all visitors to Uzbekistan should have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival in Uzbekistan.

E-visas are easy to obtain for other nationalities

Citizens of around 70 countries that are not covered by the visa-free travel scheme can apply for an e-visa online, which is a lot more convenient than going to an Uzbekistan embassy in person. This includes citizens of the USA under the age of 55, and visitors from India, China and Thailand. The application process is generally quite easy and takes only a couple of days, there’s a US$20 fee. For full details, see the website of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs .

When applying for an e-visa, you can apply for a single, double or multiple-entry visa, but the total validity of the visa is only 90 days from the application date, with a limit of 30 days for each entry. You must enter and leave Uzbekistan within this 90-day window. It’s a good idea to print out your visa confirmation once you have received it, to show at airport check-in or at land borders.

Some travelers have reported glitches with the website when uploading photos, making payments or receiving an email activation code. If you can’t get the website to work, you’ll have to get your visa from an Uzbekistan embassy abroad, and in that case, your visa will have fixed entry and exit dates, which you’ll need to confirm when you apply. Find details for Uzbekistan’s diplomatic missions online.

In theory, citizens of most countries are eligible to transit through Uzbekistan for five days visa-free, provided they fly into and out of the country with Uzbekistan Airways . In practice, most people find it easier to get an e-visa.

Visa extensions are tricky to arrange

Unfortunately, visa extensions are still difficult to obtain in Uzbekistan, so it’s best not to put yourself in a situation where you need to extend your stay. It’s almost always easier to go to a neighboring country and then reapply for another 30-day visa; Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and, to a lesser extent, Tajikistan, all offer visa-free entry to most travelers.

Remember to register with your accommodation

The vast majority of travelers stay in B&Bs, hostels or hotels where reception staff will automatically register guests with the authorities. You’ll be given a small paper registration receipt – hold on to these insignificant looking slips of paper, as you can, in theory, be asked to show them when you leave the country, though few people are actually asked for them.

If you stay in private homes or camp out in a tent or campervan, things are much trickier. You’ll need to register at least every three days using the Emehmon online guest registration system. In practice, you’ll need the help of a local to do this, as only Uzbekistan-issued bank cards can be used to pay the 10,000 som daily fee.

Alternatively, you can simply stay in a hotel every three days, and every time you reach a new city, let the hotel staff handle the registration process. You may also be able to pay hotels a few dollars to register you, even if you are not a guest.

Below you can find more information on the Uzbekistan e-visa and how to apply for one. For more information on Uzbekistan visas more generally, please see here .

Uzbekistan e-visa: step by step guide

What types of uzbekistan e-visa are available, who is eligible for an uzbekistan e-visa, how long does it take to get an uzbekistan e-visa, how long are uzbekistan tourist e-visas valid for, which documents do i need to provide when applying for an e-visa, how much does the e-visa cost and how do i pay for it, what if my e-visa contains errors, how do i use the e-visa to enter uzbekistan, how do i get an e-visa.

  • Additional details and information.

Many tourists do not need an electronic or other visa to visit Uzbekistan. These include: • Citizens of the following CIS countries - for stays of up to 60 days, and regardless of the purpose of visit:

Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine.

• Citizens of the following other countries - for stays of up to 30 days (unless otherwise stated), and regardless of the purpose of visit:

* Individuals who possess a residency visa for UAE will also be granted 30-day visa-free entry, provided the resident visa is valid for at least 90 days after entering Uzbekistan.

Citizens of the below countries are granted 10-day visa-free entry to Uzbekistan if they have a ticket for international departure:

Bahrain Kuwait Oman Chinese citizens (including the citizens of Hong Kong)

• Children under 16, if they: - are accompanied by a parent or guardian who has an e-visa (or other entry visa) to Uzbekistan, and - have a valid, biometric passport.

The length of the child’s stay is limited to the period of validity of his parent or guardian’s visa (but, in any case, cannot exceed 90 days). A foreign citizen who will reach the age of 16 during his or her stay in Uzbekistan needs to obtain an exit visa at the Office of Entry, Exit and Citizenship.

• Citizens of the following countries, if transiting Uzbekistan for 5 days or less

Note: To be eligible for visa-free transit, you must depart from Uzbekistan on Uzbekistan Airways, and present your airline ticket upon arrival at the airport. If your country of citizenship is not on the visa-free transit list, you will need to apply for a transit visa (which will be valid for 3 days/72 hours) in advance via an embassy or consulate of the Republic of Uzbekistan. In addition to the standard documents required to apply for a tourist visa, you must provide an airline or rail ticket that shows your arrival and departure dates. The processing time for a transit visa is 3 working days.

The e-visa portal issues single, double and multiple-entry tourist or business visas for individuals. An e-visa allows entry into Uzbekistan for a visit of up to 30 days and which is valid for 90 days from the date of issue. Each traveller must have his or her own e-visa (except for children under 16 – see above).

Citizens of the following countries can obtain Uzbekistan e-visas:

Tourists with dual or multiple citizenship are eligible for e-visas (provided one of their countries of citizenship is on the above list).

Processing and issuing the e-visa takes 2 working days, so you should submit your e-visa application at least 3 working days before you plan to enter Uzbekistan.

E-visas are valid for 90 days from the date of application. You can enter Uzbekistan at any time during this period (single-entry only) and then spend up to 30 consecutive days in the country. For example, if you enter Uzbekistan when your e-visa is only valid for 10 more days, your duration of stay in the country will still be up to 30 days from the day you arrive.

You need to submit the following documents electronically as part of your application on the e-visa portal: • Copy of a valid passport – the information must be clear and readable, and the file size must not exceed 500KB.

Currently, there is no specific rule for the e-visa on how long your passport must be valid for. However, to be on the safe side we recommend that you comply with the Government of Uzbekistan’s requirement (for visas processed by an embassy or consulate) that your passport is valid for at least 3 months after your visa expires.

• Passport size photograph that meets the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (size 35x40 mm, quality 300 dpi, the face occupying 70-80% of the frame, a uniform background).

The e-visa costs 20 USD for a single-entry visa, 35 USD for double-entry, and 50 USD for multiple-entry, regardless of nationality. Payments must be made via the portal, using a Visa card. If you do not have your own Visa card, you may use one in someone else’s name. There is no other way to pay for the e-visa. E-visa related payments are non-refundable, even if your application is denied or if you cancel your trip to Uzbekistan after receiving the e-visa.

There is currently no option to amend any information on your e-visa. If your e-visa contains errors and/or does not match your passport, you must get a new e-visa.

E-visa holders may enter the Republic of Uzbekistan through all border crossing points. When entering the Republic of Uzbekistan, you will need to present the e-visa in printed form, along with your valid passport (this must be the same passport you used to apply for the e-visa). Please do not affix your e-visa to your passport. You must also carry a copy of the e-visa with you throughout your trip around Uzbekistan. Electronic copies of the e-visa (such as on your mobile phone) are not sufficient – you must carry a hard copy.

You can apply for an e-visa via the Government of Uzbekistan’s e-visa portal. For more information on the steps involved, please see below and our detailed e-visa guidelines. Currently, the Uzbekistan e-visa portal is available in English, Russian, and Uzbek.

Step 1: Complete the application form After entering the e-visa portal, you must fill in an application form . This involves providing personal data, indicating your planned date of entry into Uzbekistan, and attaching a portrait photo together with a scanned copy of your passport. If you are a citizen of a country with which there is an agreement on visa-free entry to Uzbekistan, the portal will terminate the application process and notify you that you do not need to obtain a visa.

Step 2: Finalise the application and pay for the e-visa After providing the information required, you must indicate the e-mail address to which the temporary link to the visa application and access code should be sent. After entering the access code on the portal, you will be able to pay for your Uzbekistan e-visa. After making the payment, you will receive a second email that confirms your request has been received.

Step 3: Receive the e-visa The processing time is 2 working days (excluding the day on which you submit your application). After this time, you will receive a notification by email. If the visa has been granted, you will receive an electronic visa in the form of a PDF file that can be saved on your phone or printed for presentation at the border.  If the visa has not been granted, you will also receive a notification by email. Reasons for the refusal may include an incorrectly completed application form, errors and inconsistencies in the information provided, or specific circumstances defined in Uzbekistan’s legislation. Even if the visa is not granted, the fee paid is not refundable.

Additional details and information

- The applicant is responsible for the accuracy of the information he or she provides and/or of information that is sent to him or her as part of the process of obtaining an electronic visa to Uzbekistan. - The applicant does not need to be the owner of the VISA card used to pay the fee for an electronic visa - In case of future or additional applications for an electronic visa, the applicant must pay the fee again. - The applicant must request an electronic visa for a valid passport. If the passport is replaced, the applicant must obtain a new visa. - An applicant with dual citizenship must, when applying for an electronic visa, enter the data of the passport that he or she plans to use to enter Uzbekistan. The e-visa online application form has a box for ‘Citizenship of other states’. We recommend ignoring this box (even if you are a dual national) because ticking it often results in a system error. There should be no need to provide information on your other passport to obtain the e-visa, or to show this other passport when entering or travelling around Uzbekistan. - The citizens of some countries are not eligible for the simplified visa procedure. If the applicant chooses one of these countries when applying for an electronic visa, the system will notify the appropriate embassy or consulate of Uzbekistan abroad. - Notifications about the acceptance of e-visa applications and payments, including information about issuance or cancellation of the e-visa, will be sent to the applicant’s e-mail address. Therefore, applicants should enter their e-mail addresses carefully. - If the applicant experiences technical problems when using the portal, he or she should contact (+998 71) 200-00-88, or send an email to [email protected] .

Entry, Exit and Visa Requirements

Visit the  Embassy of Uzbekistan  website for the most current visa information.

Visas:  U.S. citizens should apply for visas well in advance of their travel. A list of Uzbekistan’s consular missions abroad is available on the official website of the  Ministry of Foreign Affairs . Visas CANNOT be obtained upon arrival at Uzbek airports.  Visitors may not enter Uzbekistan with a valid Uzbek visa in a canceled or expired U.S. passport, even if they present another valid U.S. passport at the port of entry.

Electronic Visas:  For information on applying for an e-visa, please visit the  Embassy of Uzbekistan  website.  Please note that while an e-visa may be valid for 90 days from the date of issuance, the allowed period of stay in Uzbekistan is only 30 days from the date of arrival. E-visas cannot be extended in Uzbekistan. Travelers seeking a longer period of stay may apply for a regular physical tourist visa through Uzbekistan’s consular missions abroad.

Visa-free Entry for Foreign Citizens under 16:  U.S. citizens, who are under 16 and traveling for tourism, are eligible for a visa-free regime. They should provide a valid U.S. passport and must be accompanied by their legal guardians. The period of stay will correspond with the duration of the visa of the accompanying guardian but not more than 90 days. More information is available at the  Embassy of Uzbekistan  website.

Visa-free Entry for Foreign Citizens over 55:  U.S. citizens, who are older than 55 and traveling for tourism, are eligible for a visa-free regime with a valid passport. The period of stay cannot exceed 30 days. More information is available at the  Embassy of Uzbekistan  website.

Registration:  The government of Uzbekistan requires all foreigners to register with the local authorities within three days of arrival in Uzbekistan.  From the date of the initial registration, travelers are responsible for maintaining uninterrupted registration. Visit our  Registration in Uzbekistan  website for more information.

Border Crossings:  Travel within Uzbekistan by rail or land sometimes requires brief entries into neighboring countries. Travelers should obtain a multiple-entry Uzbek visa as well as proper visas for the relevant neighboring countries, if needed.

HIV/AIDS:  Some HIV/AIDS entry restrictions exist for visitors and foreign residents of Uzbekistan. Long-term visitors may be required to submit HIV test results along with their visa application. For more information, contact the  Embassy of Uzbekistan  before you travel.

Find information on  dual nationality ,  prevention of international child abduction  and  customs regulations  on our websites.

Safety and Security

Terrorism:  Terrorist groups and those inspired by such organizations are intent on attacking U.S. citizens abroad.  Terrorists are increasingly using less sophisticated methods of attack – including knives, firearms, and vehicles – to more effectively target crowds.  Frequently, their aim is unprotected or vulnerable targets, such as:

  • High-profile public events (sporting contests, political rallies, demonstrations, holiday events, celebratory gatherings, etc.)
  • Hotels, clubs, and restaurants frequented by tourists
  • Places of worship
  • Shopping malls and markets
  • Public transportation systems (including subways, buses, trains, and scheduled commercial flights)

For more information, see our  Terrorism  page.

Demonstrations  are rare, but may occur.  They may take place in response to political or economic issues and can be accompanied by clashes between police and protesters. In the past, some clashes have resulted in deaths.

  • Demonstrations can be unpredictable, avoid areas around protests and demonstrations.
  • Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.
  • Past demonstrations have ended in mass arrests.
  • Check local media for updates and traffic advisories.

Crime: Violent crime against foreign nationals is rare, but can occur, especially in larger cities, primarily during late night hours.  In urban areas, travelers are urged to take the same precautions they would take in any large U.S. city. If traveling at night, stay in well-lit areas, travel in groups, maintain a low profile, and do not display large amounts of cash. Beware of pickpockets in public places, such as tourist destinations, train stations, and local markets. Although using private cars as taxis is common in Uzbekistan, U.S. citizens, especially women, should not consider this a safe practice. U.S. citizens are encouraged to use clearly marked taxis, such as those at hotels, and should avoid riding in unmarked taxis.

Scams: See the Department of State and the FBI pages for information on scams.

Victims of Crime: Report crimes to the local police at 102 (Tashkent) or 02 (most of Uzbekistan) and to the U.S. Embassy at + (998) (78) 120-5450.

  • Help you find appropriate medical care.
  • Assist you in reporting a crime to the police.
  • Contact relatives or friends with your written consent.
  • Provide general information regarding the victim’s role during and after the local investigation.
  • Provide a list of local attorneys.
  • Provide information on  victim’s compensation programs in the United States.
  • Provide an emergency loan for repatriation to the United States and/or limited medical support in cases of destitution.
  • Help you find accommodation and arrange flights home.
  • Replace a stolen or lost passport.

See our webpage on help for U.S. victims of crime overseas .

Domestic Violence:  U.S. citizen victims of domestic violence are encouraged to contact the Embassy for assistance.

Tourism: The tourism industry is unevenly regulated, and safety inspections for equipment and facilities do not commonly occur. Hazardous areas/activities are not always identified with appropriate signage, and staff may not be trained or certified either by the host government or by recognized authorities in the field. In the event of an injury, appropriate medical treatment is typically available only in/near major cities. First responders are generally unable to access areas outside of major cities and to provide urgent medical treatment. U.S. citizens are encouraged to purchase medical evacuation insurance. See our webpage for more information on insurance providers for overseas coverage.

Local Laws & Special Circumstances

Criminal Penalties: You are subject to local laws.  If you violate local laws, even unknowingly, you may be expelled, arrested, or imprisoned.  Individuals establishing a business or practicing a profession that requires additional permits or licensing should seek information from the competent local authorities, prior to practicing or operating a business.

Furthermore, some laws are also prosecutable in the United States, regardless of local law.  For examples, see our website on crimes against minors abroad and the Department of Justice website.

Arrest Notification:  If you are arrested or detained, ask police or prison officials to notify the U.S. Embassy immediately.  See our webpage for further information.

  • Penalties for possessing, using, or trafficking in illegal drugs are severe. Expect long jail sentences and heavy fines if you are convicted.
  • It is illegal to take pictures of certain buildings. Ask before taking photographs of anything of possible military or security interest.
  • Always carry a copy of your U.S. passport, visa, and visa registration, since local police may conduct document inspections. Check your visa and registration validity dates regularly, and renew them before they expire.

Counterfeit and Pirated Goods: Although counterfeit and pirated goods are prevalent in many countries, they may still be illegal according to local laws. You may also pay fines or have to give them up if you bring them back to the United States. See the U.S. Department of Justice website for more information.

Faith-Based Travelers:  See the following webpages for details:

  • Faith-Based Travel Information
  • International Religious Freedom Report – see country reports

LGBTQI+ Travelers:  Sexual relations between men are against Uzbek law and punishable by up to three years’ imprisonment. The law does not specifically address same-sex sexual activity between women. Same-sex sexual activity is generally a taboo subject in Uzbek society, and there are no registered LGBTQI+ organizations.  See our LGBTQI+ Travel Information page and section 6 of our Human Rights report for further details.

Travelers with Disabilities:  The law in Uzbekistan prohibits discrimination against persons with physical, sensory, intellectual, or mental disabilities, and the law is enforced.  Social acceptance of persons with disabilities in public is not as prevalent as in the United States.  Buildings, public transportation, and social infrastructure facilities, such as clinics and schools, are rarely adapted for use by persons with disabilities.

Medical care in Uzbekistan is below U.S. standards with shortages of basic medical supplies, including disposable needles, anesthetics, and antibiotics. Some medication sold in local pharmacies is known to be counterfeit. Elderly travelers and those with pre-existing health problems may be at particular risk due to inadequate medical facilities. Most resident U.S. citizens travel to North America or Europe for their medical needs.

Generally, in hospitals only minimal staff is available overnight, and medical staff may speak little or no English.  Patients bear all costs for transfer to or between hospitals.  Psychological and psychiatric services are limited, even in the larger cities, with hospital-based care only available through government institutions.

For emergency services in Uzbekistan, dial 103 (Tashkent) or 03 (most of Uzbekistan). Other provider numbers are:

Fire: 101 (Tashkent), 01 (most of Uzbekistan)

Police: 102 (Tashkent), 02 (most of Uzbekistan)

Ministry of Emergency Situations: 1050 (Tashkent), 050 (most of Uzbekistan)

Ambulance services  are:

  • widely available but training and availability of emergency responders may be below U.S. standards.
  • not equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment.
  • staffed with trained physicians and paramedics with limited medical equipment.
  • private ambulance services may have quicker response times and are available in some major cities.
  • very few English speaking providers are available.
  • injured or seriously ill travelers may prefer to take a taxi or private vehicle to the nearest major hospital rather than wait for an ambulance.

We do not pay medical bills.  Be aware that U.S. Medicare/Medicaid does not apply overseas. Most hospitals and doctors overseas do not accept U.S. health insurance.

Medical Insurance:  Make sure your health insurance plan provides coverage overseas. Most care providers overseas only accept cash payments. See  our webpage  for more information on insurance providers for overseas coverage. Visit the  U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  for more information on type of insurance you should consider before you travel overseas. We strongly recommend supplemental insurance to cover medical evacuation.

Pharmaceuticals:

  • Exercise caution when purchasing medication overseas.  Pharmaceuticals, both over the counter and requiring prescription in the United States, are often readily available for purchase with little controls. Counterfeit medication is common and may prove to be ineffective, the wrong strength, or contain dangerous ingredients.  Medication should be purchased in consultation with a medical professional and from reputable establishments.
  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Food and Drug Administration are responsible for rules governing the transport of medication back to the United States. Medication purchased abroad must meet their requirements to be legally brought back into the United States.  Medication should be for personal use and must be approved for usage in the United States. Please visit the  U.S. Customs and Border Protection  and the  Food and Drug Administration  websites for more information.
  • Always carry your prescription medication in original packaging, along with your doctor’s prescription.  Check with  Uzbekistan’s laws and legislation  to ensure the medication is legal in Uzbekistan

Vaccinations:   Be up-to-date on all  vaccinations  recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Further health information:

  • World Health Organization
  • U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention  (CDC)

Water Quality:  In many areas, tap water is not potable. Bottled water and beverages are generally safe. Be aware that ice for drinks may be made using tap water.

Air Quality : Visit  AirNow Department of State  for information on air quality at U.S. Embassies and Consulates. Air pollution is a significant problem in major cities in Uzbekistan. Consider the impact seasonal smog and heavy particulate pollution may have on you and consult your doctor before traveling if necessary.

Travel and Transportation

Road Conditions and Safety:   Uzbekistan has a developed but inconsistently maintained traffic infrastructure. Although main roads in central Tashkent are relatively well maintained, many secondary roads inside and outside Tashkent are in poor condition.  Exercise caution on rural or mountainous roads.

Driving at night can be dangerous.  Rural roads and highways are generally not lit, and only major cities have streetlights.  The fuel supply can be sporadic, and travelers may encounter occasional difficulty finding gasoline outside Tashkent.

Livestock, as well as farm equipment and animal-drawn carts that lack lights or reflectors, are found on both urban and rural roads at any hour. Local drivers are unfamiliar with safe driving techniques. Drivers often disregard traffic signals, ignore lane markings, and move erratically and at high speeds.  Pedestrians cross streets unexpectedly and often without looking for oncoming traffic.

Passersby and drivers generally respond quickly to automobile accidents and notify relevant authorities; however, police may not arrive at the scene right away.  There are private roadside assistance services available in Uzbekistan that can assist with towing, fuel refill, tire replacement, etc.

Traffic Laws: Uzbekistan has a large traffic police force, which frequently stops drivers for minor infractions or simple document checks. There have been reports of traffic police harassing foreign drivers and asking them for bribes.

Public Transportation:

Public transportation in the city is often overcrowded and not always safe. Avoid using unmarked taxis or entering a cab that already has passengers. Buses and shuttle buses (marshrutkas), especially in residential areas, lack necessary route maps and information, and driver schedules may be unpredictable.

See our Road Safety page for more information.

Aviation Safety Oversight: The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has assessed the government of Uzbekistan’s Civil Aviation Authority as being in compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) aviation safety standards for oversight of Uzbekistan’s air carrier operations. Further information may be found on the FAA’s safety assessment page .

Uzbekistan’s economy has been growing quickly in the last few years making it an exciting destination for businesspersons, as well as students and investors. With a vibrant local culture and beautiful landscape, it is also an attractive and well-organized tourist destination.

Many nationalities are eligible to enter Uzbekistan for up to 30 days visa-free. If they wish to stay longer than 30 days, they must obtain an entry visa. All other foreign nationals and stateless individuals must have an entry visa to travel to Uzbekistan. Visas can be obtained for a variety of lengths of stay from seven (7) days up to one (1) year.

The validity of an Uzbekistan visa will depend on the duration of stay permitted by the visa type and the number of entries. Travelers can select the visa type with the duration of stay that best suits their needs and purpose of travel.

There are several Uzbekistan visa types that are organized based on the intended duration of stay in the country and the number of travelers arriving on the same visa.

The following visa types are available to travelers coming to Uzbekistan:

  • This visa type is available for stays of 7 days, 15 days, 30 days, three (3) months, six (6) months, and one (1) year.
  • This visa type is available for stays of six (6) months and one (1) year.
  • The tourist visa can be obtained online as an eVisa or through consular processing depending on the applicant’s nationality. It is intended for short-term stays not exceeding 30 days.
  • Transit visas are for travelers passing through Uzbekistan to another onward destination and are available for a period of stay of 72 hours. A double transit visa is available as well.
  • These visas are for groups of five (5) or more travelers coming to Uzbekistan together for a stay of 15 or 30 days. Children under 16 are excluded from the official number of travelers.

Uzbekistan Visa Requirements

To apply for an Uzbekistan visa, you will have to submit several documents depending on the purpose of the trip and the type of visa.

All applicants for an Uzbekistan visa through consular processing must also have visa support from a local legal entity or individual permanently or temporarily based in the country. Inviting legal entities or individuals must apply to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and obtain a confirmation (stamp) from the visa support department of the Consular Department. They should send this document to the invited person. The invited person can then present this document when they arrive in Uzbekistan.

The following are the basic requirements for eVisa and sticker visa applicants, accordingly:

Passports (or travel documents) should be valid for at least three (3) months after the expiry date of the visa.

A complete visa application form

Two (2) copies of the complete application form must be submitted.

The payment method will depend on the diplomatic mission or consular offices of the Republic of Uzbekistan where the application is submitted.

Applications must be completed accurately with all personal and identification details.

The notice must be issued by the relevant internal affairs bodies of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

If there is any family relation between the invited and inviting persons, they can include them in the application.

If seeking to obtain a visa on arrival at the Tashkent International Airport, applicants must provide their flight itinerary.

Depending on the visa type, other required documentation may apply. These additional materials could include a travel itinerary with a date of departure from Uzbekistan clearly shown and confirmed.

Uzbekistan Visa Application Steps

The visa application process will depend on the visa type, the method of submission, (eVisa vs sticker visa), the visa support, the applicant’s nationality, and the intended purpose of travel to Uzbekistan.

For visa applications processed through an Uzbek foreign mission, the applicant must have visa support (invitation) from a legal entity or individual.

The following are the basic steps to obtain an Uzbekistan visa online (tourist eVisa) or via consular processing:

Applicants must complete the online visa application accurately with all their personal and contact details.

Documents must be uploaded correctly so that the photo and identification page of the passport/travel document are clearly legible.

Visa fees can be paid online using a valid credit or debit card such as a Visa card.

Approved eVisas will be sent to the applicant by email. They can print out the eVisa or take the electronic version with them to the port of entry in Uzbekistan.

Applicants must be invited to apply for their visa by a legal entity or individual staying permanently or temporarily in Uzbekistan.

The inviting and invited parties must both gather the documents required for the visa application process.

Visa applications must be completed accurately with the applicant's personal and travel details

After receiving the visa support confirmation, applications can be submitted to a diplomatic mission or consular office of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Foreign nationals or stateless individuals from countries that do not have an Uzbekistan diplomatic mission or consular office can obtain their visa on arrival at the Tashkent International Airport. They must still ensure they have visa support confirmed from an inviting legal entity or an individual in Uzbekistan. They can present their invitation confirmation document (stamp) on arrival in Tashkent.

Depending on the visa type and the applicant’s nationality, Uzbekistan visas can be applied for and obtained online through the official eVisa portal or in person at the relevant Uzbekistan foreign mission (embassy or consulate).

The processing times for Uzbekistan visa applications will vary depending on the visa type and the applicant’s nationality. The average processing time for the visa support confirmation is 10 working days. The processing time for the sticker visa will vary depending on the foreign mission where the application is submitted.

Transit visas are typically processed within three (3) working days. Tourist eVisas are usually processed within two (2) working days from the date of submission of the application.

An Uzbekistan visa is a travel document that allows foreign nationals to enter the country lawfully for a specified duration of stay.

The cost of an Uzbekistan visa depends on the visa type and the number of entries. A tourist eVisa will cost 20 USD. For all other visa types, the prices are as follows: For single entry visas: • 7 days: 40 USD • 15 days: 50 USD • 30 days: 60 USD • 3 months: 80 USD • 6 months: 120 USD • up to 1 year: 160 USD For multiple entry visas: • up to 6 months: 150 USD • up to 1 year: 250 USD For transit visas: • up to 72 hours: 40 USD • double transit visa: 50 USD For group visas: • up to 15 days: 15 USD per person • up to 30 days: 25 USD per person

The processing times for Uzbekistan visa applications will vary depending on the visa type and the applicant’s nationality. Visa support confirmations are usually processed within ten days by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The processing time for the sticker visa will depend on the foreign mission where the application is submitted. Transit visas are typically processed within three (3) working days. Tourist eVisas are usually processed within two (2) working days from the date of submission of the application.

The location of application submission will vary depending on the visa type and the applicant’s nationality. Uzbekistan visas can either be applied for online through the official eVisa portal or in person at the relevant Uzbekistan foreign mission (embassy or consulate).
