Beautiful bay in Sa Coma with sailing boats, Menorca island, Spain

The idyllic Sa Coma is right next to the famous resort of Cala Millor. No matter whether you are looking for the perfect beach vacation or want to plan an adventurous few days – Sa Coma provides an excellent destination for all sun worshippers and adventurers.

If you are looking for a relaxing and fun-filled holiday in Mallorca, you should definitely check out Sa Coma. Sa Coma is a beautiful resort town on the east coast of the island, with a stunning sandy beach, a lively promenade, and plenty of activities for all ages. Whether you want to soak up the sun, enjoy the water sports, explore the nearby nature reserve, or sample the local cuisine, Sa Coma has something for everyone. In this article, I will share with you some of the best things to do and see in Sa Coma, as well as some tips on how to make the most of your stay.

Introducing Sa Coma

Sa Coma is a beautiful location situated between the picturesque fishing village of Porto Cristo and the popular tourist destination of Cala Millor . The holiday village is approximately 40 miles (65 km) from the capital city of Palma de Mallorca. You can reach Sa Coma conveniently by renting a car or taking the bus line 412, which departs from Estació Intermodal. Currently, Sa Coma has a population of around 2500 people and is gradually expanding towards its neighboring town of Cala Millor. The stunning beach is a major attraction for many visitors, and the area boasts a great selection of top-quality hotels to ensure a delightful and satisfying stay.

Sa Coma In Mallorca

In Sa Coma, the clocks tick much slower than in neighboring Cala Millor. Relax, enjoy the beach, and let your mind wander – that should be the motto here. Along the beach promenade, you will find a variety of restaurants and small supermarkets. For extensive shopping tours, I recommend visiting Cala Millor, because numerous buses run between the towns. The excursion is also a welcome change on foot and offers excellent views of the coast.

Also, if you value flexibility and independence, then you should think about renting a car. In addition to the popular car rental companies such as Avis and Hertz, there are other organizers that you can rent a car from.

TIP: As soon as you have decided on a holiday in Mallorca with a rental car, you should book it in advance with Trip.com .

Best Time to Visit Sa Coma

The best time to visit Sa Coma in Mallorca is during the summer months, from June to September. The weather is warm and sunny during this time, with average temperatures ranging from 77 to 86 ºF (25 to 30 ºC). The sea is also warm and clear, making it perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports.

If you are looking for a more affordable time to visit Sa Coma, you may want to consider visiting during the shoulder seasons, which are spring (April-May) and fall (September-October). The weather is still warm and sunny during these months, but there are fewer tourists and prices are lower.

Best Attractions in and around Sa Coma

In your opinion, does a perfect vacation involve more than just a beautiful beach? Do you want to explore the surroundings and see more of Mallorca? Of course, there is more than just a great beach in Sa Coma.

Punta de n’Amer Peninsula

Hike north and explore the Punta de n’Amer peninsula on idyllic hiking trails. The area is protected and has breathtaking views. Particularly spectacular is the Castell de sa Punta de n’Amer (Castle of Amer), formerly a protection system that defended against pirate attacks, and today a welcome stopover and outstanding viewpoint.

Defense Tower Of Punta De Namer At Sa Coma Mallorca Spain

If hiking is not for you, then book a segway tour, so you can get to know the overwhelming panorama in a slightly different way. Incidentally, there is also a cafe by the old defense tower, which is ideal for a short break and provides guests with delicious meals and refreshing drinks. By the way, don’t be surprised about roaming horses or donkey carriages passing by; that’s just part of the landscape here.

Safari Park

Seeing wild animals up close is possible at the Sa Coma Safari Zoo. Either you drive the 1.8 mi (3 km) route yourself by car, or take the safari train.

The park is said to resemble an African steppe. Hippos, antelopes, zebras, and more live here, and the monkeys are particularly friendly and curious, as they like to explore visitor cars and see it as a climbing opportunity.

Eating Giraffe Safari Park Majorca

However, your tour is limited to the experience in the car, because disembarking is prohibited! A small zoo is integrated into the open area, where several enclosures for predators are housed. The safari is an absolute highlight for some visitors, but other visitors demand that the Safari Park be closed.

Dragon Caves

Located just a short 5.6 mi (9 km) distance from Sa Coma, lies the charming port town of Porto Cristo. This town has gained fame for its breathtakingly beautiful surrounding stalactite caves, which have captured the hearts of many visitors. The Dragon Caves, also known as Cuevas del Drach, offer a magical subterranean world that transports visitors into a mesmerizing realm of natural artistry. These limestone caves showcase a truly awe-inspiring display of stalactites and stalagmites, creating a surreal landscape that feels almost otherworldly.

Among the many wonders that the Dragon Caves hold, the magnificent Martel Lake is definitely a highlight. Visitors can embark on a tranquil boat ride, surrounded by captivating formations and illuminated by soft, ethereal lighting. The caves boast not only geological significance but also historical and cultural importance, providing a fascinating glimpse into the depths of Mallorca’s past.

Cuevas Del Drach On Majorca Island Spain

Visiting the Dragon Caves promises an unforgettable journey through the underground beauty that nature has sculpted over countless millennia. This underground marvel is truly enchanting, and it is not difficult to see why it has become such a famous attraction. The Dragon Caves are a testament to the power and beauty of nature, and a visit here is sure to be a highlight of any trip to this stunning part of the world.

Talayotic Settlement in S’Illot

The Talayotic Settlement, located in S’Illot, is a fascinating destination that takes visitors on an immersive journey into the distant past. This archaeological gem offers a glimpse into the legacy of the Talayotic culture, showcasing their ingenious architecture and way of life. The settlement boasts impressive talaiots, intricate stone structures that once served as watchtowers and gathering places, and the enigmatic taula, a T-shaped stone monument of great spiritual significance.

The vivid remnants of this historic village provide a tangible link to a bygone era, offering visitors an opportunity to step back in time and discover the mystery and cultural richness of ancient Mallorca. The experience is truly exceptional, allowing for a deeper appreciation of the island’s rich heritage and the captivating stories it has to tell.

Neighboring Towns Worth Seeing

Mallorca is great for day trips and short trips. Whether it is only in the neighboring town or to the north or south of the Balearic Island – there are beautiful bays, secret beaches, and colorful vacation spots like the sand by the sea. Sa Coma is right in between two popular holiday destinations: Calla Millor and Porto Cristo – one of which has a classic tourist structure, and one being quaint and charming – you are spoiled for choice.

Cala Millor

Within 10 minutes, you can reach the town of Cala Millor by car, another place on the list of Sa Coma destinations. In the Mallorcan tourist town, numerous boutiques, souvenir shops, restaurants, and bars invite you to pass the time. You can also soak up the wonderful holiday feeling on the promenade and take a dip in the water on the picturesque beach section.

View Of Cala Millor Promenade

If you have had enough of the holiday hustle and bustle, you have the opportunity to visit the nearby town of Son Servera. Here, you can experience traditional Mallorca up close and marvel at numerous historic buildings. As you can see, there is a lot to explore in this area.

Porto Cristo

During your vacation in Sa Coma, you should definitely take the opportunity to pay a visit to the port town of Porto Cristo . This small and charming town is one of the most beautiful Mallorca spots near Sa Coma. As soon as you arrive in Porto Cristo, you will be surrounded by an incredible atmosphere.

Majorca Porto Cristo Marina Port Manacor Mallorca

The idyllic port, the rugged coastline, the picturesque bays, and the typical Mallorcan houses give the place a unique Mediterranean flair. In addition to the numerous historic buildings and churches, the resort impresses above all with the famous stalactite caves Coves del Drac, one of the top attractions in Mallorca. You should not miss the breathtaking natural spectacle and immerse yourself in the underworld of Mallorca.

Here, you have the opportunity to observe numerous stalagmites and stalactites. If you still haven’t gotten enough, there is another cave you can visit. In the immediate vicinity are the Coves del Hams, where you can admire unique cave designs.

Before you set out to explore the industrial town of Manacor, you should make a stop in the original Sant Llorenç des Cardassar. This place is hidden in the middle of a natural landscape overgrown with olive trees and pine forests. Afterward, you can visit the busy town of Manacor.

Cala Romantica Mallorca Beach Summer

After you have arrived in the town, you will immediately be surrounded by the typical Mallorcan lifestyle. The town known for the pearl and furniture industry impresses with a beautiful old town. Stroll through the maze of streets and alleys in the town and let yourself be captivated by the picturesque architecture. You should use your time wisely and discover the numerous sights. You can also learn more about their history and tradition when you visit Manacor’s pearl factories.

Leisure Activities in Sa Coma: Beaches in Sa Coma and the Surroundings

For an unforgettable beach vacation, you’ll want to know which beaches in Sa Coma you can visit. First is the main beach, Playa de Sa Coma. The beautiful sandy beach section is particularly suitable for a family vacation because on-site, you can look forward to an excellent infrastructure. A fabulous range of leisure activities and numerous dining options ensure that you don’t have to do without any amenities. The large bathing area offers you, among other things, the opportunity to relax and sunbathe, build sandcastles with the kids, or swim in the water.

Beach Of Sa Coma In Mallorca Spain

You also have the opportunity to visit Cala Moreia Beach in the neighboring town of S’Illot. Similar to Playa de Sa Coma, you will also find the best conditions for an unforgettable day at the sea. If your schedule is flexible and you have time, you should spend a few hours on one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca, Es Trenc Beach . The white sandy beach not only radiates an incredible calm but also exudes an incredible Caribbean flair.

Other Activities in Sa Coma

If you’re planning to spend your holiday in Mallorca with your family, you can experience an unforgettable day away from the sea at the aforementioned Sa Coma Safari Zoo. The safari and leisure park offers more than 600 animals a home and lets you observe wild animals up close. Also, kids can play at numerous playgrounds.

Another highlight for the little ones in the family is a ride on the mini train from Sa Coma. This train connects the towns of Cala Millor, Sa Coma, and S’Illot with one other.

Also, this area around Sa Coma offers the best conditions for all those who want to combine sports and a beach holiday in Mallorca.

Santuario Lluc A Beautiful Hiking Trail Located Centrally In The Serra De Tramuntana

If you have enough time, you can discover the beauty of Mallorca on a hike or two and immerse yourself in everyday life on the island. In varied landscapes, you have the opportunity to explore beautiful areas and enjoy a picturesque panorama. The island is not only a paradise for hikers but is also very popular with mountain bikers and cyclists.

Sa Coma is ideal for starting a trip on Mallorca or making various excursions from there. The Serra de Tramuntana mountain range is particularly recommended for sporting activities. In the northwest of the island, you can discover the regions on your own or take guided tours. If you want to explore the east coast of Mallorca, the steep coast hike from Cala S’Almunia to the Caló des Màrmols is a highlight that you shouldn’t miss.

In Sa Coma, you also have the opportunity to rent bikes, explore the unique remote areas of the island, and experience the beautiful coastal sections. From the resort of S’Illot, there is a lovely bike path along the coast to Costa del Pins.

Eating and Drinking in Sa Coma

As soon as you arrive in Mallorca, you will notice that the Mallorcan cuisine is particularly diverse. On the island, you will find numerous restaurants with international dishes, and especially in the coastal regions, various dishes with fish and seafood. Stews and pan dishes are a specialty of the island.

During your vacation, you should take the time to look for traditional restaurants and gain an insight into Mallorcan cuisine. Worth it! Fresh ingredients such as tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, lamb, and pork are important in Majorcan cuisine. Dishes that you should try include Pa amb Oli – toasted bread with various ingredients; Arròs Brut – a rice dish with different types of meat; Tumbet – a vegetable casserole; and Sobrasada – the typical Mallorcan sausage. Also, it should be noted that you should try the Mallorcan wine.

Mallorca has ideal climatic conditions for viticulture, making it an excellent destination for wine enthusiasts. You can enjoy the island’s rich winemaking tradition by attending tastings at various wineries, particularly in the Plà I Llevant area in the east, starting from Sa Coma.

There, you can discover the defensive tower, Es Castell, which was built in the 17th century. This incredible tower offers not only amazing sea views but also has its own museum. A ring of these towers can be found all over Mallorca, and they were used as warning systems and defences against pirate attacks!

Mallorca

The beach in general The beautiful sandy beach in Sa Coma is almost a kilometer long and quite wide. The water is clear, and relatively shallow. On days of easterly winds, waves may appear, and then lifeguards will keep an extra eye on the bathers.

Sa Coma beach

The beach has many sections with sunbeds and umbrellas, and of course there are also showers and restrooms at the beach. Behind the beach runs a wide promenade that is perfect for a stroll. The promenade stretches all the way down to Cala Moreya just south of the neighboring town of S’Illot.

The large 4-star Hipotels Mediterráneo Club is right next to the beach, and with its many activities it is perfect for the family holiday.

Sa Coma Mallorca

Child friendliness The sand is fine and although the beach is popular, there is usually plenty of room to play. The water is also child-friendly, however, the waves can become strong on days with wind from the east.

Water sports Sa Coma offers many watersport activities, for example parasailing, jet skiing, banana boat and the classic water bikes.

Sa Coma restaurant

Beach restaurants There are many restaurants, cafés and bars along the beachfront promenade. Several of them are owned and operated by the English, who have moved to Sa Coma. At one of the restaurants there is also a fine playground.

Sa Coma holiday resort Sa Coma is among the nicer tourist towns in Mallorca. It began to be built as a decidedly tourist town in the 1980s, and has grown ever since. The hotel standard is generally good and many hotels offer mediterranean views.

Sa Coma Mallorca

The city has a large selection of restaurants and cafes, especially along the seafront. In the streets behind the beach there are many tourist shops and local supermarkets.

Sa Coma has many options for those who want a break from the beach life. An obvious activity is a trip around the city by either mini-train or horse-drawn carriage. A little more sweat on the forehead gives a hike on the protected peninsula of Punta de n’Amer, where the watchtower and the attached restaurant are located. Many families with children also visit the Safari Zoo on the outskirts of Sa Coma, where it is possible to see the wild animals from either your own car or the park’s safari bus.
