Get Your Alpine Cycling Brevet

A Brevet is a certificate earned by completing a long distance bike ride with a specific time limit. In the Alpenbrevet you are your only competition, there’s no racing it’s just you against the distance and the clock; have you trained hard enough?

In the UK this is known as an Audax, in Europe these randonneuring events are called randonée or brevet, and a rider who has completed a 200 km event is called a randonneur. Unlike in flatter countries such as the UK, even the “easiest” Silver course covers 132km and a massive 3,875m of climbing – an incredible achievement to add to your cycling palmarès.

Choose From Three Alpenbrevet Distances

The Alpenbrevet is a great sportive to enter with a group of friends of varied cycling ability. Each course features some of the most mythical climbs in Switzerland and every rider can find the right challenge for them.

Alpenbrevet SilberTour featured climbs: Grimsel (2,165m) Furka (2,429m)  and Susten (2,264m)

Alpenbrevet SilberTour  Route Map: 3,875m of climbing over 132km

Alpenbrevet Platintour

  • Challenge: 7,031m of climbing over 276km
  • Climbs:  Grimsel (2,165m) Nufenen (2,478m) Lukmanier (1,915m) Oberalp (2,044m) and Susten (2,264m)

The Platintour is the toughest challenge in the Alpenbrevet and covers some of the highest paved roads in Europe including the infamous Nufenen Pass at 2,478m. There are few road cycling events in the world where you can tackle epic mouton climbs and spin past palm trees in Ticino on the same day.

As strict time limits apply those who are on the limit will be able to redirect onto the Goldtour route in Airolo allowing you to be flexible on the day according to how your legs hold up in the high mountains!

Alpenbrevet Goldtour

  • Challenge: 5,294m of climbing over 172km
  • Climbs:   Grimsel (2,165m) Nufenen (2,478m) Gotthard (2,106m)  and Susten (2,264m)

The Goldtour features the “Paris-Roubaix of the The Alps” the unforgettable cobbles of the huge St Gotthard Pass. The Gotthard should be on your cycling “must do climbs” list, it features several long stretches of cobblestones as you climb high above the valley floor. After the challenge of the  St Gotthard Pass the smooth roads of the final climb of the day over the Susten Pass (2,264m) will feel relatively easy!

Alpenbrevet Silbertour

  • Challenge: 3,875m of climbing over 132km
  • Climbs:  Grimsel (2,165m) Furka (2,429m)  and Susten (2,264m)

If you’re thinking that the Silbertour is any less of an achievement think again. With over 3,875m of climbing packed into 132km you are either going up or you’re going down!

The Alpenbrevet Silbertour also features the second highest pass of the day, one that none of the other  randonneurs will have taken on; The Furka Pass. The Furka Pass is one of the classic climbs of the Alps with trademark hairpin turns and jaw dropping mountain views as you climb to the summit at 2,429m.
