11 pictures and videos that take you inside Selena Gomez’s brand new home in Los Angeles

By Shireen Khandelwal

Selena Gomez has had quite a year. The musician kicked off 2020 by releasing her latest album, Rare, and also treated her fans to a beauty line with the same name. Over the past few months, she's also been busy producing movies and hosting her very own cooking show called Selena + Chef. The musician also recently collaborated with K-Pop band BLACKPINK on a track called ‘Ice Cream’, and to celebrate it, launched a brand new flavour of ice cream with Serendipity called Cookies & Cream Remix, which happens to be a mix of pink vanilla ice cream, cookie bits and fudge.

In the middle of it all, the 28-year-old made a big purchase this year, and moved into her brand new home, a $4.9 million mansion in Los Angeles. Despite her busy schedule, Gomez has managed to enjoy lots of quality time alone in the new residence while social distancing from the public. Previously owned by late musician Tom Petty, the 11,000 square feet property boasts six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms along with a gym, a massage room, wine cellar, and an LA home staple–a lavish pool. Take the tour below.

Selena Gomez's living room, which features frequently in her cooking show, follows a harmonious palette of whites and neutrals with a grand white fireplace and floor-to-ceiling French windows. A comfy beige sectional sits in the middle of the space topped off with fluffy white cushions, right by a matching wooden centre table. Forest green curtains and a Persian rug add colourful accents to the room. Often flooded with tons of California sunshine, this spot makes a snug spot for hosting friends, family, and of course, Gomez's dogs Daisy and Winnie.

Have you been following Gomez’s cooking adventures on Selena + Chef ?

While at home, Selena Gomez has been sharing lots of fun culinary content from her kitchen, and her show Selena + Chef has given fans lots of sneak peeks into her expansive cooking space. Following a similar theme palette to her living room, the kitchen houses pristine white cabinets lined neatly on either side of the stove. In stark contrast to the room's wooden interiors, the stove area sits sheltered under a beautiful off-white brick dome–the very first element to catch one's eye in this space.

With two separate kitchen islands featuring grey marble countertops and accompanied with blue chairs, the space makes a picture-perfect backdrop for Gomez's cooking show. The exposed wooden beams on the ceiling, ornate golden lantern and brick dome mentioned before add a rustic charm to the otherwise modern-looking space. Bathed in natural light and dotted with small plants, the musician's kitchen is undoubtedly one of her favourite places to unwind.

Selena's all-white bedroom and bathroom are perfect for beauty tutorials

Selena Gomez's bedroom, featuring a bed covered in silk pillowcases and backed by an elegant beige headboard, is one of her go-to spots for beauty selfies. The room seems to align with the soothing white aesthetic of the rest of her house, broken only by a baby blue pastel wall behind her bed.

Gomez's favourite spot to experiment with Rare Beauty products is, no surprise, her all-white bathroom, which features forest green curtains, just like her sun-kissed living room. A large bathtub sits right next to a window, creating a haven for the star, where she can unwind after a long day with a beautiful view of California's greenery. The ebony fixtures on the bathtub pair well with the ceiling light, adding a delicate touch to the space.

A special room just for music? Why not?

Selena Gomez's sprawling LA home home includes a dedicated music room, where she can practice her singing, piano and guitar skills for hours. A striking white piano rests in the centre of the room, with a matching ivory rug underneath. The dark green walls here take a detour from the clean aesthetic of the rest of her house, patterned with leaves and pink blooms.

Gomez is often seen perched on one of the two burgundy armchairs that sit by the white-trimmed windows in this room, which also features dark stone flooring and exposed wooden beams on the ceiling. A little storage basket of wooden logs suggests that the room also includes a fireplace.

Haven’t had enough? Here's a peek at Selena's luxurious poolside

Like most celebrity homes, Gomez's mansion comes with its own pool. The gorgeous outdoor space includes lots of lush greenery, and is a great spot for the singer to lounge around and pose for home photoshoots. What sets her poolside apart from so many others, however is the little waterfall feature lined with stones, which gives this corner of her home a zen vibe.

Inside Selena Gomez’s Home and Her Daily Routine to Stay Positive Under Lockdown

Like most of us at this time staying in our homes while waiting for a semblance of normalcy to return, celebrities are busy trying to find ways to stay positive in this new reality. As part of Instagram’s #TakeABreak IGTV series, Selena Gomez invited followers to join her on a tour of her home while showing glimpses into her new daily routine under lockdown in hopes it will inspire others to discover what will make them happy during this time. “I obviously know this is a hard time, and I just want to let everybody know who’s dealing with stuff that you’re not alone at all and we can get through this together,” she said.

Gomez has been quite active during this lockdown, posting about the activities that have helped her cope during the stress and uncertainty of quarantine, from experimenting in the kitchen and re-watching reruns to video-calling loved ones and adopting her new puppy, Daisy.

As a vocal advocate for using public platforms to speak about mental health —a cause Gomez holds close to her heart—she used this video taken during Mental Health Awareness Month to highlight the importance of prioritizing self-care every day and building a strong support system, especially considering the current circumstances. “I think right now, it is more important than ever to talk about mental health, which is a subject that is very personal to me,” she said. “So I’m asking you guys to take a break with me, and I’m going to show you some of the things that help me stay positive during this time and see if any of it resonates with you.”

Although Gomez recognizes there isn’t a one-size-fits-all way to manage mental health , she began the video by sharing a form of therapy that has personally helped her daily. “There isn’t really one easy way to get through all of this, or even just to kind of tackle mental health in general, but some of the things that help me is my DBT books [Dialectical Behavior Therapy],” explained Gomez. “And every single day, I’ll look at a worksheet or if there’s something I’ working on, internally, I’ll just kind of find a chapter that relates to me.”

Walking through her backyard to enter a temporary at-home recording studio, the multi-platinum singer gave fans a sneak peek into where the new magic is currently happening and even gave a brief instrumental live performance. “It’s okay not to do something every single day but when I’m feeling up for it and I’m feeling creative, this is my little area of creativeness. This is our makeshift studio. This is how basically I write or work on music that needs to be worked on.”

Gomez ended the tour with the simple ways she likes to calm her mind and relax in the evening before heading to sleep—Hint: It involves creating a little zen corner on her nightstand. “The last part of my routine is my unwinding process,” she said. “So I usually take a walk at night because I can get rid of the day a bit. And then I come home, take a shower, wash my face, and then when I get into bed, my friends laugh at me, but I have a heating pad. It’s almost like an anxiety blanket. It feels really nice. I will sometimes journal. And I have these beautiful little like, face sprays, rosewater, a candle to help me as well. And then I have my little Daisy, and we just kind of get into bed. I turn off all my electronics and I just relax.”

Watch the entire video below to see the little but meaningful things Gomez is doing to not only spread joy to millions around the world but also to herself.

Selena Gomez's new house

Gomez hasn't moved in or decorated the home yet, but she has an airy, luxe space to work with. Gomez instead has been quarantining in her Studio City property that she listed for $2.799 million.

During an IG Live, she spoke about how she hasn't left the house. "I’ve been in lockdown," she said. "I have not really left—well, I have left my house just to see my sister. I hope that you guys are taking this seriously. To me, I can’t wrap my head around people not taking lives that serious. It’s not to say it’s to be hurtful toward anyone else. It’s just, it’s really hard to see 'cause I have grandparents and they’re with me. I have a six-year-old sister who can’t be in school right now so I haven’t been on this too much just for the sake of praying for you guys and honestly figuring it out for myself, trying to read and not go crazy."

Selena Gomez Shared a Peek at Her Backyard, and It Looks Like a Tropical Oasis

So, uh, does anyone have a teleportation machine we could borrow real quick? 'Cause after seeing Selena Gomez's latest Vogue photo shoot , we'd love to transport ourselves to her dreamy backyard from some outdoor hangs. The actress posed for the fashion publication's April 2021 cover spread at her new Los Angeles home , sharing a few glimpses at the tropical oasis situated behind the spacious mansion. Although Selena herself is undoubtedly the main draw of the shoot, we couldn't help but zoom in on the background of each snap to fully admire where the superstar soaks up the sun in her free time. Follow along as we dive into the snippets of her tranquil retreat ahead.

In her main Vogue cover photo, Selena wears a floral, fuzz-lined Saint Laurent dress while smizing in front of palm fronds. It's hard to tell exactly what part of her backyard this is in, but we're still jealous of those picturesque fronds nonetheless.

Now we're talkin'. This wide-angle shot gives us a better look at Selena's pool and the surrounding foliage. There are some pinkish-reddish flower bushes in the distance, and taller trees provide some shade from the California sun, making it feel like a secluded escape. We certainly wouldn't mind waking up to this view every morning!

Last but certainly not least, Selena poses in a mismatched Dior bralette and briefs set atop a gray and white striped lounge chair beside her pool. The outside walls of the house are made with the same stone tiling that the pool is finished with, and there's a large second-story balcony above. Meanwhile, there are two blue pool chairs on the other side of the patio — the one on the left has our name all over it! Now, if only we could track down a teleportation machine.

Selena Gomez Gives a Tour of Her 'Beach Vacation House' Featured in New Season of 'Selena + Chef'

The house will look familiar to some viewers as it was featured in the Disney Channel show Hannah Montana as Miley Cyrus' character's family home

Alexandra Schonfeld is a features writer at PEOPLE. She has been working at PEOPLE since April 2022. Her work previously appeared in Newsweek .

Selena Gomez is showing off her new digs for season four of Selena + Chef.

Gomez, 30, welcomed cameras into her Malibu beach house, which will serve as the backdrop for the upcoming season of her HBO Max cooking show.

The house might look familiar to some viewers as it was featured in the Disney Channel show Hannah Montana as Miley Cyrus's character's family home, a rep for HBO confirmed to PEOPLE .

In the clip, the Rare Beauty founder explains that she wanted to go to Malibu because it's one of she and her friends' "favorite spots," but they "never get to spend time here."

"It's been pretty much a dream being here," she says as she walks into the home's living area, which she calls "kind of the headquarters of the house."

In the room, there is a circle of green chairs that make up what the star has dubbed the "talking circle" and sits just next to the massive windows that look out onto the beach and Pacific Ocean beyond.

Gomez is also sure to show off a very unique feature: her "okey-dokey jar," which she explains is where she has to drop a dollar every time she says the phrase "because it's lame."

While showing off the home's open-plan kitchen, she explains that because it's not her primary home's kitchen it has "been interesting getting to know it."

The "Who Says" singer then revealed the cameras that are set up around the room, including a go-pro mounted above the stove to capture everything she has cooking. She explains that this camera is helpful when the chefs she's working with are dialed in via video call, instead of present in the actual space with her, so they can see how everything is coming out in real time

The kitchen is also rigged with plenty of studio lights which Gomez says is great for TikToks and selfies.

Just off the kitchen are large glass doors that open up onto the back deck that leads down to the oceanfront.

"This is a given, I couldn't be more lucky or happy that we ended up shooting season four somewhere else," she said. "It was such a beautiful way of changing up the show, but also spending time with my family."

Previous seasons of the show have taken place at Gomez's Los Angeles home .

The beach house, which boasts seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms , was also previously featured on HBO's Big Little Lies as the home of Reese Witherspoon's character , Madeline Martha Mackenzie.

The Hannah Montana connection is a personal one as Gomez's breakout Disney Channel role was on the series.

In 2007, she had a recurring role on the show as a pop star named Mikayla, who feuds with Montana before Gomez starred on her own popular Disney Channel show Wizards of Waverly Place .

This season's chef guests will include Adrienne Cheatham , Devonn Francis, Gordon Ramsay , Kristen Kish, Ludo Lefebvre , Matty Matheson, Nick DiGiovanni , Paola Velez , Priya Krishna and Rachael Ray .

The fourth season of Selena + Chef premieres Aug. 18 on HBO Max with new episodes dropping on Thursdays through Sept. 1.

Selena Gomez Opens Up Her House For ‘Vogue’s’ 73 Questions

Google Follow

Selena Gomez, 24, showed off her house yesterday while answering Vogue ‘s famous “73 Questions,” a segment of the the Internet in which questions which occur in rapid fire succession as the star wanders around their digs baring their soul.

As Selena Gomez answered Vogue ‘s questions, she gave her audience a quick inside tour of her home , which is actually a lot more modest than one would expect from a superstar of her caliber. Instead of living in a lavish mansion, Selena takes up residence in a one bedroom home perfect for a girl living the single life.

Her neat and tidy kitchen reveals stainless steel appliances and hardware, with magnets on the fridge that spell out “Selena.”

The house itself brings in a lot of light, thanks to the large floor to ceiling windows that cover what appears to be her office and the living room itself.

Her “lawn” offers a low maintenance Tex-Mex style, filled with cacti and other desert plants that must remind her of her home in Texas. But, Selena Gomez said that one thing she missed most about Texas wasn’t the landscape, but actually the people she has left behind there.

Selena’s bedroom wasn’t the girlie chamber one might expect. Instead, she’s covered the wall above her bed with either a Jackson Pollack or Jackson Pollack inspired painting, which sits above an orange bedspread. The room itself gives off a modern and desert-inspired vibe, one that many fans might be surprised to see Selena Gomez embrace.

Completing Selena Gomez’s modest house is a deck that serves as a backyard. It is obvious from Vogue ‘s interview that the house is nestled somewhere in the hills, meaning Selena is probably treated to an amazing view of the city every night.

But instead of a lavish pool or extensive grounds, Selena Gomez simply reveals a hot tub that adds a little something extra to her backyard. This is perfect for a young, single, woman who wants to keep her digs relatively easily maintained and low key.

The star embarked on the tour of her digs as she opened up to the magazine wearing a red Victor Gelmaud cut-out jumper. According to the Daily Mail, Selena Gomez owns several of the Haitian designers sweaters and has been seen wearing one in public previously.

So what kind of questions did Vogue ask Selena as she showed off her humble-yet-chic desert oasis?

During the rapid-fire interview, they touched on a variety of topics, and Selena let it be known that she is incredibly grateful for her fans. She expressed this sentiment twice, once after being shown a clip of a fan covering on of her songs and again when being asked to let the audience in on her favorite word.

Selena also thanked all of her followers on Instagram, telling them that she gets to do what she loves every single day because of them and their support.

Selena Gomez expressed a closeness with her family, stating that when she goes back to Texas, she loves to dig into her Nana’s food. She also discussed how much she loves and admires her mother, stating that her favorite thing about her is her laugh.

When asked to describe herself in three words, Selena stated that she was, “loyal, kind and giving.”

Aside from the deeper questions, she was also asked a few light-hearted ones to help her fans get to know her better. She stated that people might be surprised to find that she is a huge Patsy Kline fan and that the dessert she can’t live without is a big slice of chocolate cake.

It certainly seems like Selena is certainly doing well these days.

Selena Gomez On The Powerful Vulnerability Of Her New Documentary

By Chloe Schama

There is a moment early in Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me , the new documentary premiering on 4 November on Apple TV+, in which the star admits to the people gathered in her dressing room: “My body is very young.” She’s talking about the way a certain outfit emphasises – or doesn’t – her figure, making her appear, as she puts it, “like a 12-year-old boy.” But it’s more than just an assessment of her costume; it’s also a gesture toward one of the central tensions of the star’s career and this film – the precise pressure that a self-awareness of other people’s awareness can impose. Will her fans see a shadow of the Disney star she once was? Or will they see a powerful singer in her own right? How does her clothing, behaviour, performance – essentially every move she makes – contribute to the narrative that her fans and detractors are relentlessly constructing?

Selena Gomez in concert.

It might seem strange that someone so conscious of that attention would choose to make a documentary about their mental health struggles – particularly with this director. Alek Keshishian first worked with Gomez on the music video for “ Can’t Keep My Hands to Myself ”, but he is probably best known for Madonna’s groundbreakingly intimate backstage documentary Truth or Dare (1991), which was the highest-grossing documentary of all time until Bowling for Columbine surpassed it. “I like to have access to everything,” he says when he, Gomez and I speak via Zoom before the film’s premiere. There were moments, Gomez tells me, when she wanted to cry as she watched the final cut – not because of how exposed it made her, but because she hated that she felt the discomfort or insecurity that the film so pointedly captured.

In some ways, My Mind and Me is merely a chronological recounting of the past six years of Gomez’s life: the touring, the physical and mental health crises that accelerated in those years, the cancellation of her Revival tour, a two-year pause on touring, a trip to Kenya for charitable work, the pandemic, a trip to the White House to discuss mental health curricula in grade schools. But it also affords unprecedented insight into the way these events were affected by what was going on in Gomez’s head and body – most dramatically, in 2019, when she had a breakdown and was officially diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Poignantly, we see the moment Gomez decided to go public with her precise diagnosis, and the lack of hesitation she felt in doing so, spurred by her instinct that greater openness could lead to greater destigmatisation.

My Mind and Me is not an indictment of the media in the manner of Framing Britney Spears or other documentaries that have exposed the relentless pressure of being a young, famous woman. But it is something of a damming document nonetheless: a catalog of the repetitive and inane questions or games Gomez is asked to answer or play. It’s all a big eye roll, but it also adds up to something more. “Such a waste of time,” she sighs after one such interview, and in her life, where every moment is milked for some larger purpose, it’s hard not to agree.

With determination not to waste her time, we sat down with Gomez and Alek Keshishian to discuss the many years they spent making this film together and what they hope it will accomplish.

Tell me how the idea for this film came about.

Alek Keshishian: I worked with Selena in 2015 on “Can’t Keep My Hands to Myself”, and then when she was going on tour in 2016, she approached me about doing a documentary. And then we decided after a few weeks that the timing didn’t feel right. I’m quite intrusive in my filmmaking in so far as I like to have access to everything. Selena was very bravely like, “No, I’ll give you that.” But after a few weeks, I just kind of felt like she was going through a lot, and to have cameras there on top of it just didn’t feel right. We stayed friends, obviously. I fell in love with her.

Her Kenya trip [ in 2019 with the WE Foundation] allowed us another opportunity. I said, “Let’s film a few days before.” We didn’t really know if there was going to be a bigger documentary; I think we were quite innocent about it. But we developed a closeness, and then we had this shared vision that this story could maybe help others. And that became our motivating factor as we kept shooting.

Alek, you’re very well known for the Madonna documentary, and that’s obviously a very intimate portrait of a very famous person. Were you, Selena, excited about having that kind of exposure? Or were you nervous about it?

Selena Gomez: I definitely had moments where I was super gung-ho. But then there were moments where I felt nervous. It’s very vulnerable. To be honest, it can be a little uncomfortable even watching some of it. But when Alek was there and it was just Alek, I would feel comfortable. Like when my lupus was flaring up. He filmed it, but he filmed some and then he was there for me.

Is it harder to be on film exposing yourself, or writing a song that is very open?

SG: I definitely want to go into hiding after this comes out. I had to separate myself from it and understand what I felt the movie was going to be for other people. So I’m kind of sacrificing myself. You know, I love my job, but at the end of the day, I do want to be impactful in some way. And if that’s by sharing a part of myself that isn’t necessarily pretty and put together, there are hopefully people that can look at that and think: Oh, maybe I feel this way , or, I didn’t know that you could get this kind of help.

One of the moments that really struck me in the film is when you talk about saying difficult things to people you love, like your parents. Do you have advice for friends and family members of people who suffer from mental health issues?

SG: I don’t like the approach where it seems like I’m a patient. I don’t like how that feels. My advice to those people would be to be there as a friend. And I feel like sometimes you don’t want to be parented. You just want to have a friend. And listen, and love unconditionally.

AK: Having been witness to it, I think there’s a great deal to be said about forgiveness. And I think forgiveness goes two ways. None of us are perfect. None of us are perfect in the way we interact, especially with family. But witnessing Selena and her mum, there is forgiveness. And when you get back to that core love – that’s the road to healing.

Speaking of friendship, Alek, I saw your post on Instagram that called Selena’s friend Raquelle Stevens the co-star of the film. What role do you think friendship has in supporting people who are going through some of these things?

AK: Raquelle is such a fun presence to me because on one level she seems very ditzy. There were moments where I was like, Oh my God, this is like Laverne and Shirley, these two – ’cause they’re really funny together. And yet when push comes to shove, she’s kind of like a little Yoda. She says stuff that hits the mark. And then other times, you see that she’s not in tune with the experience Selena is having. Like in Paris, Raquelle’s just enjoying the city. And Selena is going through a lot. But the friendship survives all of those things because they do really love each other. And that friendship – the way it survives everything – was really powerful to me. I grew to really love Raquelle because of the way she treats the people around her, which ultimately is from a place of deep and unconditional love.

SG: It was a coincidence because she ended up being one of my friends that went on the trip to Kenya. I think I just wanted my friend to come with me, and she is the kind of person who I’ve known for 10 years and can hold the mirror up to me sometimes.

And how did you guys meet initially?

SG: We actually met at a New Year’s Eve party. I was going through a break-up and I was not having a great New Year’s, and she was so nice. She just asked me how I was and she had a sweet presence about her. And we ended up talking for like two hours that night.

When did you both decide the film was finally finished?

AK: When she went to the White House [for a conversation with President Biden on mental health], that fulfilled a dream that had at times suffered, maybe, because of a lack of confidence. She had to get to that place of: I can do this. So for me as a filmmaker, it felt like the right ending. Because honestly, I find her so fascinating. I could shoot endlessly, although she would not like that. But the real ending of this film is where you see her today. She’s already so different from where the movie ends.

And where is the effort to get a mental health curriculum into schools, which was part of what you discussed with Biden?

SG: I’m working on it through the Rare Impact Fund . We’ve been working with a bunch of schools and we want to create relationships with people to help us do that. When I went to the White House, I was talking to the surgeon general, and he said that this was a huge focus for them too. So now I’m texting with him, which feels really weird [ laughs ] but cool. Like, really cool. He’s super forward-thinking and wants to create change and he has the sense that it’s urgent and that we are at a critical moment. Because of Covid, many people who have never experienced anxiety may all of a sudden be experiencing panic attacks. So it feels very relevant.

When you were describing the “critical moment”, I thought you might be talking about the effect of social media – can you talk a little bit about the effect of social media on your mental health?

SG: I have not had access to my Instagram account in four or five years; I don’t know my password. It wasn’t necessarily an addiction. I just didn’t want to know it because I didn’t want to have a weak moment. When I was on it, I was finding things out that I didn’t want to find out and seeing things that were awful. It was just dehumanising and really disheartening. I don’t find it to be a safe place whatsoever, and I’m very vocal about that. However, I am on TikTok [ laughs ] and I feel that TikTok is a bit more loose and people can have more fun. It still has its moments. I take days and weeks away from it, and I do that very intentionally.

Selena Gomez in Kenya, captured in My Mind And Me.

What else do you do to maintain your health and wellbeing these days?

SG: Slowing down. I wake up early now. If I have an appointment or a photo shoot or something, I will wake up two hours before that. I usually wake up with the sun, and just take a few deep breaths and walk around, wake my body up a bit, and maybe listen to some music. I dream a lot, so maybe I’ll write for a bit and drink coffee. It’s either that or a workout: physical health is super connected to mental health. Even just a walk, I’m not talking about doing, like, Barry’s Bootcamp. Obviously I’m in therapy, and I try to surround myself with people who have struggled with the same thing, so that I know who to call, and I can share a moment or even just have a conversation. I find that really helps me.

Were there moments where you disagreed on what you wanted from the film?

SG: There really weren’t. If there were to be a moment, I would feel very comfortable saying, “Alek, I don’t think that’s right.”

AK: I think she trusted me because she knew that I felt for her. I could just watch her looking at my film and know where I needed to finesse, because I shared her opinion usually. It took a lot of time to get right. But we never disagreed because I wanted to make a film that she could stand behind and that I could stand behind.

Is there anything you want people to really get from the film on a secondary or deeper level?

SG: I just think there are moments in the film where I personally feel bad about how I felt. In the beginning, for example, when I’m talking about my body, I, like, cry thinking about it because I hate that I ever felt that. And that’s such a real feeling. I’m glad I don’t really have that mentality anymore, but it did break my heart watching that.

AK: We set out to make a movie that had some breadth to it. Everyone, at times, faces challenges and darkness. And it may not even be mental health. It may be a loss of a job, an illness or grieving. Hopefully the film gives people hope that you can still do something with your life and that you can still bring light out from those dark moments.

Selena Gomez Brings Parisian Style- LBD To New York City

By Ashleigh Carter

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez was the picture of elegance on Friday and showed that a little black dress is always the best choice for a night out.

The actor and Rare Beauty founder stepped out in SoHo in New York City on March 29 to support her friend and Only Murders In The Building co-star Steve Martin for the premiere of STEVE! (Martin) A Documentary in 2 Pieces. The documentary tells the prolific story of Martin's career and Gomez was there to get the first look.

Of course, Gomez looked amazing. Her style for the evening may have been all black, but that doesn't mean it had to be boring. The actor looked as chic as ever in a long black pencil skirt (or dress?) that featured long, off-the-shoulder sleeves. The top of the ensemble had an array of black bows that perfectly blended into the rest of the fabric — besides, bows are huge right now.

Gomez swept her hair back in a sleek bun with a side part that oozed Parisian style. She kept her neck bare and instead wore large studded earrings and glowy glam with orange-ish lipstick. Gomez paired the dress with black tights and black Louboutin's.

Selena Gomez

Gomez shared a photo from the Steve Martin premiere on Instagram Stories on Friday and wrote about her admiration for the comedian.

“It pains me to know how many people may not know truly about Steve’s life,” Gomez wrote. “He’s truly an icon and tried and never gave up … my dear friend you are extraordinary.”

Selena Gomez has worked closely with Steve Martin on the beloved Hulu murder-mystery-comedy show since 2021, along with Martin Short. Gomez has grown close with both comedians, often posting funny behind-the-scenes footage from filming and posing together at events. Earlier this week, Gomez shared a photo from set of her with Martin and Short, thanking them “for truly being the most kind, gentle, warm and powerful influences in my life.”

“You have shown me a level of class, intellect and humor that doesn’t seem to be easy to find anymore. You guys are truly best friends to me forever,” she continued.

Selena Gomez goes makeup-free in stunning 'real' photo. We can learn a lot from her

selena gomez house tour vogue

Selena Gomez is getting "real" by embracing a no-makeup look − and, by doing so, she's joining a beauty trend experts say more celebrities and everyday people should get behind.

The Rare Beauty founder, 31, shared a black-and-white photo of herself on Instagram Sunday looking directly into the camera without makeup. She captioned the photo "Real," and the image has inspired heaps of praise in the comments.

More and more celebrities of all ages are pushing back against beauty norms in favor of embracing a natural look − something experts say is a  healthy trend we can all learn from .

Another star who's made waves for ditching makeup is Pamela Anderson , who told Allure in a February interview: "It's not just about makeup, taking off the mask, but it's about why am I here, what's my purpose, why do I resonate with people, can I help in any way?"

The "Baywatch" star previously opened up about not wearing makeup to Paris Fashion Week events in an October interview with  Vogue France , saying she doesn't "want to compete with the clothes."

“I’m not into the makeup look right now," she told Vogue. "My mom always told me, ‘At some point in your life, you’re not going to want to wear makeup on your skin,’ and she’s right. You kind of have to challenge beauty sometimes.”

More: Pamela Anderson reveals why she ditched makeup. There's a lot we can learn from her.

Why are celebrities embracing a natural look?

Gomez and Anderson aren't alone. In August 2020,  Kelly Ripa  poked fun at her gray roots, and, in March 2021,  Katie Couric  went makeup-free for a  People  magazine spread, saying the experience made her feel "liberated and vulnerable." Justine Bateman opened up in April to  "60 Minutes Australia"  that she thinks she looks "rad" aging naturally, despite online commentary over her looks.

"I like feeling that I am a different person now than I was when I was 20," Bateman said. "I like looking in the mirror and seeing that evidence. ... I think my face represents who I am. I like it.”

Susan Yara, founder of Naturium Skincare and the YouTube channel Mixed Makeup, previously told USA TODAY Couric's headline-making People spread pushed back against the norm "that women disappear into the background as we age."

"Men seem to thrive more when they age," she said. "It should be the same for women. We’re more confident and self-assured, and we bring wisdom that you can only get with age."

Cassandra Bankson, a medical esthetician and YouTube skin care personality, previously told USA TODAY that "being able to age is a privilege" and "we should embrace how our skin takes care of us and the stories it tells."

Bateman seemed to share this sentiment as she explained her motivation for rejecting cosmetic procedures to "60 Minutes Australia," saying that she thinks they "would erase" the authority she's gained through the years.

Tips on how to embrace your natural look

If you have complicated feelings about seeing yourself without makeup or showing signs of getting older, experts offer the following guidance:

◾   Curate your social media:  Dr. Michael Keyes, a plastic surgery fellow at the University of Louisville, encourages people to follow influencers who post unfiltered and raw photos. He added it's important to keep in mind that celebrities "often use filters and photo editing apps to minimize skin discoloration, wrinkles and extra fat in unwanted places. It's important from a wellness standpoint to recognize what's real and what's not."

◾   Adjust your makeup routine:  Aging is inevitable, but you can still take steps to look and feel good. Dr. Heidi Goodarzi, a board-certified dermatologist specializing in cosmetic and medical dermatology, suggested replacing foundation with tinted sunscreen for a wash of glow that won't conceal your natural features.

◾   Be kind to yourself:  Yara reminds us that as we age, each of us should be proud of our body for the experiences it has gone through. "My confidence is truly my secret weapon, and I gained it through years of experience and becoming comfortable with myself," she said.

Host Selena Gomez with her dish "Selena Ceviche", as seen on Selena + Restaurant, Season 1.

Selena Gomez is finally leaving her house.

Following four seasons of her pandemic-born HBO Max show “Selena + Chef,” shot entirely in her own kitchen, the “Only Murders in the Building” star will join chefs in their own environment, rather than over Zoom, for the debut of her new series “ Selena + Restaurant ” May 2.

The show will premiere with two back-to-back episodes at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. ET on Food Network and be available for streaming on Max.

An added twist for this new show, apart from taking place outside of Gomez’s home, is that on these episodes, Gomez won’t just be learning to cook in these professional kitchens, but also trying to make a signature dish good enough to land on the restaurant’s menu. Like on “Selena + Chef,” each chef will get to pick charity during their respective episodes that will receive a donation from “Selena + Restaurant.”

On the premiere, Gomez goes to Puck’s CUT Steakhouse in Beverly Hills, where she must pass an “initial test and master one of Wolfgang’s classic dishes before creating her take on a spicy seafood dish in a bid to have it placed on the menu.”

“After cooking mostly virtually from my kitchen with some of the best chefs for the last four years, I was thrilled to step into their world,” Gomez said. “You’ll have to see if being in person helped my skills at all.”

“Selena’s culinary journey has riveted viewers from day one as she has elevated her kitchen skills on her Emmy-nominated series, ‘Selena + Chef,’” Food Network chief Betsy Ayala said. “Now, out of the comfort of her home kitchen, but with her best friend for support, Selena’s graduation to the big leagues offers a natural progression of her culinary education as this superstar shows what she can do in a restaurant environment.”
